Mordremoth GROWS commanders?

CureForLiving.5360

Did anyone mention cloning (I must watch the PoI video but I recall that word in the synopsis)? It seems more likely that old Moldy can take a Sylvari and make lots of little grafts on a compatible plant and grow lots of replacements. Plants tend to grow a bit faster than us fleshy types so we will have lots of targets to flame.

This might explain where all the seedless Sylvari bad guys will come from. Have no pity for them as they have no pits.

I can see us having to kill a cloned Trahearne while rescuing Trahearne proper from a cloning pod.

Actually the more I thought about this, it would be kinda awesome for Scarlet to return as one of these Commanders. It would also allow nice tie-ins back to the Aetherblades.

Maybe not a commander, but at least as a boss in a Raid or in the personal story.
This could be a very interesting plot line, this idea that Sylvari are practically immortal as long as Mordy lives.

Of course we still don’t know what the Nightmare is aside from first appearing in Orr. It may be that Cadeyrn first started polluting the Dream at the time Caithe and Faolain first encountered it or it may be that something on Orr(either Zhaitan’s corruption, the Deep Sea Dragon’s corruption or remnant Nightfall corruption from Abaddon’s temple) followed Faolain to the Maguuma Jungle from within the Dream.

We do we learn this?

GW1’s final expac Eye of the North set up Primordus. It doesn’t really touch on the Elder Dragons beyond that (some prequel stuff for Svanir and Drakkar as well). It just sets up what is to come later and introduces some early lore for them to build on.

CureForLiving.5360

Even if you did trust her, you can’t anymore because what she did was moronic. She stole Glint’s egg knowing full well she ‘s susceptible to Mordremoth. I don’t think there’s any excuse for that.

I think the Pale Tree speculates that Caithe thought the egg could help heal her. We don’t really know how badly the Pale Tree has been hurt (seems extreme but she’s probably not dying), but she’s still Caithe mommy. Also she probably assumed she’d be able to resist Mordy… also we don’t know if Mordy is really after the egg. Sure he keep showing up wherever the egg is but that might just be that they’re drawn by the magic of the egg, or simply because we keep running around in Mordrem fill areas.

Well they’re down but not out. However I think the biggest consideration when thinking about a possible return of the Aetherblades is how? Currently new content is added as part of the living story and as expansions. Somewhere between the killing of Elder Dragons I’m not sure how the Aetherblades would fit in. And if they did they’d probably just be a small detour.

Necromancers

CureForLiving.5360

It’s not commented on in the story (as far as I’m aware) if you’re playing one. And you can run around with your horrible undead minions and no-one bats an eyelid – not that I’m expecting guards to run up and arrest you, but still….

In general there isn’t too much recognition of player professions… generally there isn’t much profession lore. Yes I’m beating that old drum :P

Another thing is that Trahearne is also wholeheartedly accepted as the Pact’s commander even though he’s a corpse botherer.

Minions work a bit differently. The exact mechanism I’m unsure of, but they don’t need to dig up someone great uncle to make a minion. It’s a bit easier to accept if a necro isn’t corpse bothering anyone you might have known.

There has never been a stigma against necromancy in tyria.

Magic isn’t that big of a deal in Tyria. Someone people have blue eyes some people can summon fire from the heavens.
Necromancy more or less as we know it now has been around since the time of King Doric and the splitting of magic among the bloodstones http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/King_Doric so that’s well over a thousand years.

Not in the strictest sense, but we can assume things like murder, kitten and theft are generally looked down on. In the case of Charr insubordination and going AWOL are probably pretty big no-nos. Norn are more individualistic, so I think they’d more have social and not legal consequences to things such as cowardice (you know in the case of Charr running away from battle will probably cost you your head while the Norn would probably just endlessly tease a cowardly Norn).

We already know that Ventari’s will/tablet is not foolproof as the Sylvari in the Pact all turned. I am suspecting that Laranthir is a mole as it also had already turned.

Why do the dragons have minions?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

Because they suck at multi tasking.

Pretty much this. Zhaitan specifically had minions responsible for gathering and eating (the Mouth) magical artefacts. The more mouths and minions the more items can be gathered and eaten. The more eyes the more magical artefacts you can find etc.
But other than that, having an army to do your bidding is safer (the ED doesn’t go out and risk themselves), and it seems that every time the EDs wake up there’s a new host of races that they need to conquer / defeat. Last time was the Dwarves, Jotun, Forgotten, Seers etc. and this time it’s the main races.

They were most likely sent by Fierhan Sparwind – who would have just suddenly received the duties of both Blood Legion Tribunes in the Ascalon area with Rytlock’s disappearance – at the ‘insistence’ of Smodur.

My thinking too.
At the top is the Khan-Ur (which doesn’t strictly speaking exist at present) then there are the Imperator who run each legion. Below them are the Tribunes. Rytlock was the blood legion Tribune in the Black Citadel making him in charge of all blood legion troops in the Iron Legion lands. BUT as far as I recall (can’t remember the source) when one legion enters another legions lands they become subject to the rules and laws of that legion but also become subordinate to their command structure (assuming they’re not entering as enemy combatants). Thus Rytlock himself (as long as he was in Iron lands) was subject to Smodur’s command.
So Smodur could order the Blood Legion soldiers in the BC as he sees fit (presumably only the Blood Legion Imperator would be able to out-rule him).

Will the soundless fall to Mordremoth?

in Lore

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

I still don’t understand the writing around that, it was so clumsily handled. Before boarding the ship he was distinctly portrayed as not Soundless. It doesn’t make sense he would go from praising he Pale Tree and her role in his life, to suddenly shutting her out like the Soundless do. It’s a complete turn around from how he was last portrayed. I think the line about being Soundless was clumsily written in there to hint at the Pale Tree’s protection of sylvari, ignoring/forgetting that it conflicts with Aerin’s character portrayal.

It’s not clumsily handled, it’s not handled at all. Any number of things could have happened to change his mind, perhaps as he started learning more about the zypherite philosophies? But none of this is seen in game. Maybe one day ANet will give us a ‘mission’ or ‘flashback’ showing this process. Mind you I doubt it will ever happen.

Waypoint Rules & Limitations

in Lore

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

For contesting… no real clue, but if you go to certain waypoints in Orr they have al ittle device on the ground you can interact with and if they’re contested it’ll give an error indicating a powerful enemy force nearby. So the contesting may be an automatic defense measure to prevent use by enemy forces.

I’d always imagined it’s because waypoints were fairly unreliable. A bit of stray magic being fired off here and there, a bit of shoving and they stop working.

Why didn’t the people of Lion’s Arch WP out when Scarlet attacked?

Scarlet is the only person we know who had a mobile working teleportation device. Everyone else needs to physically get to the WPs (as noted before). Also one of the first things that was attacked in LA was the capital gates. That combined with how fickle WP are…

Yeah, there was some older theories (pre-Sylvari Mordrem reveal) that the Sylvari because of their dragon corruption immunity were conceptually (or even more than simply conceptually) similar to the Dwarves (both were a sort of counter force to the EDs). But yeah that was before we knew Sylvari were dragon minions.

Consider playing the Guild Wars 1 expansion Eye of the North if you want to see part of the Blood Legion lands. I hope we go back there. They’re pretty.

Eh they’re basically like Kryta is now (back when Kryta was more tropical kinda like Maguuma Jungle… and the people… um… more colourful :P ), just with more scorpions and insect monsters.

GW1 is a very different game though, at least in terms of mechanics. Some people who love GW1 hate GW2 and vice versa. Of course in terms of lore it takes place in the same universe (but 250 years earlier).

I think you mean GW1 is a better game. OP wont regret giving it a go

As someone who has done a bit of GW1 for my HoM (presently a bit burned out… but just need 1 more point for fire sword…), yeah it’s subjective. Also very annoying (if you’re going for HoM) now that it’s not all that active anymore.

So? Op can’t know if he likes it or not if he/she hasn’t tried it. And I’d say if he/she is really interested in Charr lore or lore in general then it is worth it for that alone.

I don’t remember too much Charr lore in either Prophecy of EoTN. But hey, if OP can get it cheap (which shouldn’t be hard) then go for it.

Well, seems like I was right about the whole “the Mordrem Guards are former Pact Sylvari”. :’p

How do they explain why Scarlet and Aerin continued to have a Sylvari appearance rather than a Mordrem appearance even though they were under the control of Mordremoth? Could they have been considered Mordrem Guard as well?

It’s possible (or even probable) that it’s a gradual process. Or that the physical aspect of corruption has to take place in one of those blighting plants.

Or Mordy didn’t want to play his hand too early (up until the end of S2 no one knew the Sylvari were Mordrem and might not even have know that Scarlet and Aerin were serving Mordy).

All sylvari heard the call?

CureForLiving.5360

from the article it seems to shed a little nature on how the dream protects sylvari:

it’s a distraction.

the “constant noise” that soundless complain about is the whole POINT of the dream, it’s so noisy that unless mordremoth is actively shouting as loud as he can, they just can’t hear him over the crowd.

and the wyld hunts are a distraction to keep you busy and not pay attention to the whispers.

that’s why the soundless are so sussceptible: their minds are so quiet that they can hear mordremoth all the time!

I don’t know. It’s possible but I had assumed by ‘distract’ they meant it less literally.

Racial groups (four parts)

CureForLiving.5360

1) Charr have warbands at the smallest level, with Asura it is krewes, Sylvari are groves or something, humans, well, plenty of terms. What is the equivalent for Norns?

Norns are extreme individualists. The closest thing might be a homestead, but that would in essence be the family unit. In fact Norn have demonstrated so much individualism that the existence of Hoelbrak (as seen in the game) is very odd. Well maybe the big ice-dragon forced them to work together a bit more.

3) Are all Asura in a krewe always members of the same college?

Nope. You can even have humans as part of a krewe (mind you they’d have a very low rank and probably be used as cannon fodder). Well I guess it depends on the krewe leader. Someone like Gadd was more than happy to have humans in the krewe, if only because of how disposable they were.

4) Are all Charr in a warband always members of the same legion?

Commonly so. But remember in the personal story we can recruit members from different legions to join our warband.

CureForLiving.5360

For example, if we lose the Human Charr peace treaty we will lose support from both Charr and Humans for the fight against the Elder Dragon.

Caudecus doesn’t support the Charr peace treaty because he is using the hatred between Charrs and Humans as a mean to gain support. Not to mention he doesn’t see the Elder Dragons as a threat so if he succeeds in ruining the treaty and take the throne Tyria is most likely going to be screwed by the Elder Dragons.

We don’t really have the full Charr support as is. Currently we have the Iron Legion with limited support from Ash and Blood (and obviously no Flame support :P ). But so far we haven’t heard much from the Ash and Blood Imperator. Now we can argue that they’re working through their Tribunes but their absence at the world summit is notable much in the same way that Ebonhawks absence as the world summit was also noticeable.

Charr Farmers

CureForLiving.5360

One of the ranching farms in Diessa is maintained by a Death warband. So yes, they have warbands.

As to how they’re chosen – probably varies, such as punishment duty or for warbands not capable of constant combat, or as a resting duty after a tough sortie.
.

Not necessarily as punishment. Rox’s warband was miners, and apparently they were proud enough of the fact to take it as their… I don’t know their Cognomen? Maybe https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognomen I don’t know, someone with more knowledge of Roman naming conventions can probably give a better example of how Charr surnames might relate.

Although Rox is the only free agent Charr to date,

Y’know, except the PC and probably every charr in the orders that still answer to the Legions in some manner, such as Ember from Ghosts of Ascalon.

And possibly Evon Gnashblade, although that’s more a pet theory.

Abaddon's Death

in Lore

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

So just a quick question here I thought about while playing gw2. When abaddon died and Kormir absorbed his energy, what happened to his body? Since it is shown that normal beings can be elevated to godhood (ie Grenth), wouldn’t that mean that gods can be cast down back to normal beings? If so, I would love to see a cast down abaddon with no god powers as whatever his original race was (human right?).

Or did Anet just pull a whole “he’s really dead this time” thing?

Well from the perspective of the Charr and Asura there is no such thing as a god, only extremely powerful entities. It’s really only the humans that call them gods. So it comes down to what is the difference between a god and say an elder dragon (since both are powerful and both can be killed).
As for race, we don’t know if the gods are humans with a massive magic power-up or if they’re a human-like entity. Well we know that Grenth is half-human, and in GW we know hybrids (i.e. half norn, half charr) cannot exist. Of course then again gods, one would reason, should be able to do miraculous things.

Well we’re getting to Mordy soon once October 23rd hits.

Or maybe not.
With the new raid system we might only get to Mordy in X-number of raids i.e. he might not be immediately killable at launch.

I find the presumption that we’ll fight all six Elder Dragons laughable, in all honesty.

3 1/3 years just to face down the second one. At the rate Anet goes, we’d face the sixth in 20 years post-intial release.

Honestly, the plot will have grown so stale by then that I cannot see Anet – or the playerbase – thriving on it so long. Even if we include a seemingly non-ED plot in between like Scarlet originally seemed to be (but wait it wasn’t!).

GW1 had completed its main development within 4 years. Killed by GW2.

I’m sorry, but who can honestly think GW2 to last so long?

Either we’re going to start facing off multiple dragons in one go, or some will be left to remain distant threats like Primordus already is. And given that Mordremoth is possibly the most interesting Elder Dragon due to the sylvari tie-in, I’m expecting both to happen immediately after Mordy – we kill off Jormag and Kralkatorrik in expansion #2, and leave Primordus ans Scleritethin to become distanced threats.

Agreed. I was kinda hoping for the Primordus vs Mordy in this expansion (fire vs wood XD ). But yeah the problem with the EDs is this horrid predictability, and the wonderful convenience of them just lazing around waiting for us to come and kill them.

havent we all agreed he’s name is Steve AKA bubbles and like konig posted it seems LA is about to be destroyed again

It’s certain that ArenaNet experimented with that idea, but to say that it definitely means GW2 is not going to have real F2P because something about trial accounts was datamined a year ago is astonishingly obtuse.
