I think something to note. Even if Eir had lived (vinetooth not stabbing her, or surviving the stab), she’d have been removed from the campaign either way.

Weakened, starved, and wounded as she was, she wouldn’t be able to continue fighting. She’d have to be evacuated to heal.

And that would make sense and would not kitten off Eir fans. Just letting her stay alive even if not doing anything for story would be fair enough. Story writters just crossed the line they shouldn’t even approach to. And as a big fan of norns and Eir I must say that over 2 years of passionate playing GW2 wkittentered in 2 minutes. And no….Im not anjoying GW2 anymore. I want…but simply cant.

[Spoilers] LGBT Relationships

CureForLiving.5360

Excuse me? Look I don’t know what is wrong with this community lately… Everyone in my guild was so supportive of me so I decided to just voice my opinion… okay?

I didn’t mean any harm I just thought that because so many others were supportive that some people on the forums would have the same thoughts… :c

I don’t think anyone has an issue with adding a couple of gay guys into GW (well some do, and there was actually a massive thread a while back but I’ll take a positive view of humanity for now at least) but the issues come in with the why? You see the neo-progressives authoritarians have been… well they’ve been rather authoritarian in their attempts to impose progressive-ideas within gaming. One such avenue of attack has been the call to include minorities into every and all games regardless of how it fits, or the creative desires of the game developers.

How about there was finally some heterosexual relationship?

You might want to rephrase that, there are heterosexual relationships, just not any prominent ones.

Sylvari don’t really count however, as they have no concept of it.

Which always made sense to me. Majory and Kasmeer not so much, but that’s just because I keep relating Krytan culture to a late dark-age/early Renaissance-esque Europe, you know a time when you couldn’t really be openly homosexual. Then again Kryta also lacks any sort of central religious authority that can impose moral norms, so maybe that’s why.

Good lord, people…

Jesseii floated an idea, the idea should be criticized on its merits (or lack thereof), not perceived motivation for voicing said idea.

In that case if we strip motivation, no it’s arbitrary. It’s including gay people for the sake of having more gay people.

What about Braham x Taimi? I feel that point wasn’t explored enough.

Taimi is a child you sick kitten!
Now yes Broham might be operating at a mental level of a child, but that doesn’t make it better.

Could the game use more and more focal male homosexual and/or other non-traditional romantic pairings in it? I mean, sure. It’s not hurting anyone, and increasing visibility is a fine goal (albeit one that will make some people upset).

Visibility of what? That gay folk exist? Why is increased visibility a fine goal? Are gay people not visible? My personal demographics are rarely ever shown and when they are it’s almost exclusively in a negative light. So what?

SJW : why is this that bad? Promote equality … diversity… well i don’t know why it’s that horrible

It’s more the tactics than the goals. SJWs are rather authoritarian, not liberal. They push a progressive agenda by force. Instituting quotas, banning words and free-speech, compaigns such as ‘teach men not to kitten ’, hashtags like ‘kill all men’ or mansplaining and forcing ‘approved’ representations into media (for example pushing homosexual relationships into televisions, movies and video games) because they believe media influences culture and society (so basically they want to engineer a culture more to their liking).

It’s somehow more acceptable since female/female relationships don’t count apparently and there are weirdos who even like that sort of thing. If I see two girls kiss my first thought is, “Well there are a couple of ladies who wouldn’t be into me” not “that’s hot.”

Lol, calling people who don’t have the same sexual preferences as you “weirdos”.

No, I’m talking about straight guys who think lesbianism is hot.

Which is exactly what Pakkazull is talking about!

Come on, for all intents and purposes, sylvari are just green humans. Green elves, at best.

I’ll have to disagree, I’ve got 3 Sylvari the one is blue, another red and the other black. No green Sylvari at all… Although not that you mention it…

Yes, lets disregard story and character development for the sake of inclusion and furthering agendas. Hell, lets put in a straight relationship (of all things!) in while we’re at it.

I’d like to know what agenda you’re referring to.

Probably an SJW / Authoritarian-Progress / Regressive-left agenda.

Its 3 including the revenant armor, but you are completely right.

4 with the new guild armors, 5 with the incoming legendaries (although probably 6 since you’d have the precursor as well).
But honestly I don’t think we can ever reach a point where we have too many armors though.

if this were a free dlc it still wouldn’t be acceptable. a year and a half of no content and we get 2 armor sets?!? and nothing can seem to stop the flow of outfits at gemstore?

No that is kinda silly. The expansion had a number of things in it. Sure the lack of armors does suck but you’re acting as if the expansion only had 2 armors and nothing else.

Isn’t they’ve already stated armor will be reward for game play and outfit in gem store?

yes

I wish they’d revisit armour and overhaul the process to generate them so they can produce armour sets easier making our fashion wars more customizable.

It’s the Charr that seems to be main issue. Asura and Norn suffer from texture stretching or squashing but the Charr have a very un-human shape. So I’m not sure how.

People are defending this.

I don’t get it. Its like people are screaming for less content.

But who is screaming for more content? All I see is people complaining about how many armors they got in HoT. Now there is the implication but unfortunately getting more armors seems very very secondary to the desire to complain.

@Tobias Trueflight
Yes outfits are an abomination introduced with the wardrobe system and basicly a cheap way for anet to make a quick buck. Armors require a decent amount of work and give players much more than any outfit ever could.

Which is their advantage. Once you make a decent looking model you’re done. Most outfits don’t have racial differences or armor class differences and no need to worry about clashing with other pieces.

It’s not technically Sci-Fi, it’s techno-magic. Maybe the Charr kinda touch on steam-punk-ish.

Don’t the asura call their stuff magitech? And is that a term for just asuran tech or all magic-related tech in Tyria? I also came across the term ‘diesel-punk’ that seems to fit the Charr.

Techno-magic and magitech are pretty much synonyms :P
But yeah diesel-punk is probably a better term for Charr technology. My X-punk knowledge failed me XD

Well from a narrative position if ANet wants to pick up S3 directly after killing Mordy including a epilogue would be a bit out of place (but yeah a proper epilogue would have been nice. We have many examples of fully corrupted individuals, we also have some examples of people being corrupted. We have the Norn near the Claw of Jormag and we have Kellach (from the top of my head), both demonstrate a certain capacity to rebel against their corruption (although it seems clear that in both cases they’re pretty much doomed in the long run). I’d argue that (on a case by case basis) there is a level of mental fortitude against corruption, but that it is in and of itself not a preventative measure and not viable in the long term.

Elder Dragon awakening times are kinda odd. Well there seems to be no advantage to not all just awakening at the same time. Those that awaken later get less time to feed on magic, and less time to secure their position. I mean by the time one Elder Dragon has awoken another has had a number of years to absorb a lot of magic, poor Mordy would only have had table scraps left if all went as it should have.
Mind you those that awaken later would face less opposition from the natives, I mean earlier EDs would have killed a fair number of the races that existed at the time. But this would only make sense if the early EDs were the most powerful and the latter were weaker, but that doesn’t seem to be the case either.

So I’m not the only one to consider the notion that Glint was not actually this benevolent good ol’ dragon mama, that GW1 led us to believe she is? Wouldn’t be the first time Anet used this trope (Charr and human occupation of Ascalon). The thing that I find especially troubling is what Ogden said in ‘Echoes of the Past’ episode of Season 2 – that Glint was well on her way to becoming an Elder Dragon herself. As far as we know, Elder Dragons are not the most friendly creatures in the world. Glint having a hidden sinister agenda would make for a quite an interesting plot, where e.g races of Tyria are essentially used as tools to get rid of the other dragons that stand in Glints way.

Well I’m reminded of a episode of X-Files where Mulder finds a genie and wishes for world peace. Every single human on earth disappears.
Glint’s goal doesn’t have to be purposefully sinister but it all comes down to means being used to change society and the end result. Remember a lot of political and social ideologies have appeared in the past which from their perspectives tried to make the world a better place, but really just succeeded in making the world a worse place.

First of all, your text is very difficult to read, not because of “bad English” or anything (it’s not my mother tongue either) but the lack of punctuation.

I tend to chak it up to (look at me making HoT puns XD ) posting angry. Which is kinda sad since at least some of his points although hyperbolic (well I’m using hyperbolic in the rather plebeian sense) are accurate.

As far as I understood from announcements, interviews, blog posts, etc. there will be further living story episodes once ANet has finished the polishing of HoT (bugfixing, balancing and such). The story will move on through raid instances as well (which take place right after the “ending” of the HoT main story). So it’s not over yet – the open ending cinematic hinted at that as well.

Yeah but I’ve been wondering, should ANet address plot threads in LS S3 or would it be better to not focus on S3 but rather to add additional chapters to the HoT PS address some of the more major plot-holes. Although doing so would open ANet to more angry posts about how they ‘sold a broken / incomplete product’, maybe doubling down and say ‘well HoT is how we wanted it to be’ might in terms of PR be the better choice… I’d still imagine that many issues could be addressed by adding another chapter here or there which would provide clarification or expansion on certain details so they don’t feel like they come out of the blue.

The title seems to indicate that HoT is putting content behind a paywall? But then the OP goes on about things not locked behind HoT at all. Seems the issue is that ANet has altered how you get certain content? But most of things being brought up don’t really need HoT to get, like the ascended backpiece or precursors. Smokescales: Just slap some power nerfs on these guys and they should be fine, but seriously, so much evading it is ridiculous.

Well the only change I’d implement is being able to push or pull them out of their smoke circles. It gets a bit annoying having to dodge out of their smoke circle and then having to wait for them to come out, hitting them a few times, then having them cast another smoke circle… eh so boring. But otherwise no problem.

Master Gwyllion: WTF are you thinking!? His mechanics don’t even make sense!! He instakills the whole group, and he takes a massive group to kill him apparently. I have yet to see a successful group yet. He needs a way to be dodged or something. He shouldn’t do 100k damage to go through deathshroud and full health in one hit. the smokescales don’t help. Needs a massive rework.

You are fundamentally missing the tactics of this fight. You need stealth detection mastery, when he stealths you need to interrupt him or you get the massive damage. It’s not you get the massive damage and you can’t do anything about it.

Any Enemy Frog dude: Shadowstepping is way too broken. Not too mention the amount of stabbings they do you cannot dodge. Let me tell you it sucks. You need to pull back on whatever super damage ideas you have. They instant drop on you and you only get 2 dodges.

I haven’t noticed this, although I play a Reaper so I have a oh-kitten button that gives me access to stability and a pretty good interrupt ability.

Mordrem dissentors (I believe that is what they are called): They are in the instance that get’s you the guild hall. Outrun the fastest player and kills them in 3 hits no matter who they are. I wish I was joking. I don’t know why you guys are obsessed with killing players so much. anyone not a professional player gets wiped on the floor.

Given this – whether it was intended from the beginning or not – it seems that the overall GW2 plot is not “Elder Dragons” but “Glint’s Legacy”.

“Well the reason why it’s made of arms it’s because it’s under the mythology it’s made of the souls of people that were trapped inside disclaimer and secrets and whatever so when the souls break free it forms this creature made of anger and souls.”

I think the ‘secret’ and ‘disclaimer’ is a Bloodstone. Gorseval is likely a composite of the souls trapped in the Bloodstone (or probably more accurately the Soul Battery). Could this mean that the Soul Batteries are losing power? Titans returning? Maybe the Mursaat?

I did that too but lets not be kittens and pretend this fight was easy, it required cunning and speed, and it is understandable that people are struggling as we all are different. The difficulty is spot on though, either ppl should adapt or bring friends.

My only problem is that it’s a multi-phased fight, so when you go to a new phase and you need to learn new tactics and die… well I hate repeating phases. But yes was a fun fight… even if Mordy looked kinda silly.

I remember the actual fighting to be face roll, I guess the flying around while getting rocks thrown at you was annoying though but they never managed to kill me.

I got hit once or twice, but it I was pretty close to the ground, so I got a chance to get back in the air quickly enough.

Lets talk half breeds...

As far as I know, the races cannot interbreed, even the ones that look similar (like norn and humans) since they are fundamentally different (and species instead of races, but eh…).

On sylvari modeled after non-humans however, that’s entirely possible. the sylvari hounds are one variation, norn, charr, and asura themed ones don’t seem that far off the human model.

Jip they’re different species, what separates species is that they cannot produce viable offspring.
But we could get a Sylcarri if the Pale Tree decided to make Charr-shaped Sylvari, or if Mordy had corrupted a copy of Charr. Mind you those would still be Sylvari / Mordrem.

It’s been confirmed that interspecies romance doesn’t even exist, let alone such interactions between different races.

Still holding out hope for Braham/Rox XD

Or, as a friend had the theory of, back then (because another Norn mentions how she must have Elonian blood :P), it was possible, but the children were all sterile. So it simply stopped happening. Because the interview really didn’t cover the past, simply put the foot down that GW2 era on there are no halfbreeds.

Norn seem to have a completely separate genetic lineage. There isn’t a common ancestor as is the case with Ligers or Mules. Humans come from a completely different world. Norn might have a common ancestor with Jotun (or might be a offshoot of the Jotun but that’s merely speculation based off a throw away sentence from Thruln the Lost), but not with humans.

f
now that so many sylvari have seen how cruel life really can be, it’s possible that the NC will tone it down a bit, they have achieved all of their goals: the tree now pays attention to them without suffocating them with ventari’s teachings, and the sylvari (and the dream by extension) have begun to become less naive.

Isn’t the Pale Tree still dropping in and out of a comatose state? I can sort of agree with them becoming less militant, but I don’t see it going away because in the end they’re still an anarchist faction, they’ll never be able to integrate into the Grove and some of them will still continue killing and torturing and spreading Nightmare (which is done by killing and torturing). We might work together sometimes when there is mutual interest, but I don’t see us becoming chummy.

I think Sylvaris not tied to the Pale Trees (there’s another one apparently) will vanish after Mordremoth death, because nothing will protect them then…

But there are no sylvaris not tied to pale trees. The nightmare court is still tied to a pale tree. Even the soundless are not completely cut off.

Malyck isn’t tied to the Pale Tree, since he is a Sylvari and Sylvari as far as we tell come from a tree it stands to reason that Malyck must have come from a tree as well, and then it’s not that big of a leap to argue that he might have brothers and sisters.

All those stories depict the Nightmare Court as pure evil

I wouldn’t say evil so much as amoral (as apposed to immoral). Mind you I guess that’s more or a personal opinion since many seem to consider them to be consequentialists.

The Nightmare Court just makes no sense. On one side they are depicted as the most evil thing there is, on the other they are shown as reasonable enough to forge alliances.
And I wont buy into any discussions about “how the Nightmare Court just wants to be free from the tablet”, as long as the Nightmare is shown as something you can never escape from once you have fallen for it.

Well there’s where the consequentialist argument comes in, if their end goal is freedom and they believe that nightmare provides them with freedom and they way to increase nightmare is though death and torture… well the ends justify the means.
Again I think it’s more a matter of them being amoral, they do what they like without any consideration of right or wrong. If some like torturing they’ll torture, if they like killing they’ll kill etc.

The Dream/Nightmare seems to protect against all Elder Dragon corruption; Mordremoth was just able to slip through the defenses – though people take the same line I take as indicating such to indicate that it “only protects against Mordremoth” (I still don’t get how they get that observation beyond the explicit denial of anything but their thought that dragon minions cannot be corrupted by other dragons – something we know is not absolute if at all true).

The Dream / Nightmare seems to provide protection to mental corruption, protection against physical corruption could be because they are dragon minions. During vanilla they never explain why Zhaitan can’t corrupt them, simply that they are immune to his corruption. Since no Soundless were corrupted (and we know Soundless are susceptible to Mordy) by Zhaitan… well maybe the Pact didn’t have a single Soundless during the Orr campaign, but we do know Risen are in Caledon forest and we do know Soundless are there as well… So it does seems that there is a clear difference between how they react to Mordy and to Zhaitan’s corruption (and this might then relate to the dream and Mordy primarily attempting to corrupt their minds).

Not counting sylvari, where do we see dragon minions fight? The only time they come close to each other is the mordrem invasion in Iron Marches – one spot in there, even, and they don’t fight. The branded remain within the Dragonbrand, and the mordrem remain outside of it.

Actually during the pre-HoT event in Skrittburg the Modrem and the Destroyers were fighting. Mind you that was probably a bug, but still they fought.

But that wouldn’t really make sense for why the Nightmare also protects against Mordremoth.

Because it’s technically still part of the Dream, just a damaged part of it.

I got more the impression that Nightmare and Dream were two separate forces warring of the same turf. The Nightmare Court don’t so much corrupt the Dream to create Nightmare, but fed Nightmare to increase it compared to the Dream.
Mind you I might be wrong.

Question to lore writers: Wings?

Lore wise the Black Lion Trading Post exists, and is run by Evon Gnashblade. Evon is a very industrious little Charr, so if there is any in-game lore it’s likely that Evon decided to market a brand new line of products, wings!

(Spoiler) Mordremoth vs Zaitan

And this wasn’t just a Champion we fought in the last Map. We fought Mordremoth itself in Dragon Stand.

Mordy is a bit of a interesting entity. He’s basically the monster version of Pando https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pando_ (or maybe that fungus http://www.bbc.com/earth/story/20141114-the-biggest-organism-in-the-world but I think Tree when I think Mordy).

Also, Mordremoth did show it could speak through its minions.

Please do clarify on this because not one did I ever see Mordremoth – or any Elder Dragon – speaking through his minions.

The only times we hear something speak with Mordremoth’s voice is the Mouth of Mordremoth, which uses the very same line as in the final instance (“Armies cannot stop me.”) as far as I know – and inside Mordremoth’s mind.

He did speak through Trahearne, although at that point I think Trahearne was Mordy.

All the unresolved plot threads in the Guild Wars franchise could fill a wiki.

Yeah, but with so many I sometimes think that ANet themselves have forgotten half of them :P
Having a nice list would give us something to point at and say ‘Come on ANet! We don’t need a MGS5 or anything, but at least give us some answers before adding more!’

^The GW1 ones sure, unlikely to be concluded. But stuff like Caudecus, Mai Trin/Aetherblades, Magdaer, all could show up in future expansions theoretically. Now that we’re done with the “Sylvari Expansion”, we can venture to other areas of the world and pick up on these storylines.

Except we just finished the “sylvari expansion” and it addressed none of the dangling sylvari plot threads(Dream/Nightmare, Malyck, even the state of the Pale Tree). Why would you think the next storyline would be any better?

Because PS2 was largely focused on the fight with Mordremoth there wasn’t much time to do other things (now we can debate how sensible that is, but clearly ANet decided they wanted to narrow the focus and give a sense of urgency), I’m hoping then that S3 would be a bit slower paced and now that we have Magus Falls we can have a few LS chapters actually exploring some Sylvari / Maguuma lore before we march towards the next ED.

Why does Zhaitan seem so small?

He may have been rather scrawny, but he’s not small.

I’d say for a dragon made out of zombie dragons he looked pretty buff :P

I hope we get a size chart for Mordremoth soon.

You mean the mouth? It’s stated in game that all those large vines you see are part of Mordremoth, that means he covers most of Magus Falls and stretches all the way into the Iron Marches.

How should NPCs be "Retired"? (HoT Spoilers)

in Lore

CureForLiving.5360

The problem with not retiring character via death is that well death is final, retiring to a cabin in the woods isn’t exactly final. When Elder Dragons threaten the world it seems kinda selfish for able-bodied-experienced-heroes to just kick back and let someone else save the world.
I guess things like disability, coma, severe emotional trauma etc could also work for retirement but that’s more putting them on the shelve than retiring.

From the GW2 wiki:

Update 3 – November 4, 2015
Bug Fixes

Fixed a bug that affected map completion.

Was this for the reward or for missing points?

Just popped into VB again, did not get my reward. So I’d say probably missing points.
