Sadly in-game there are few good or easily accessed lore (and that which it does have is at best small snippets).
So the wiki is probably the best bet. Alternatively you could also just ask questions in the lore forum.
Without the Pale tree to protect them, wouldn’t they be more vulnerable to falling to Mordremoth?
Yes.
Also, wasn’t Aerin Soundless?
Depends on how you define Soundless, but he was seemingly cut off from the Dream so I guess, yes.
And if he was had he turned to Mordemoth?
Never explicitly stated but it seems pretty definite, so yes.
Was that why he went mad?
It seems to have been a combination of being Soundless and proximity to Mordy (the Zypherites were over Maguuma after all).
The Mists is the building blocks of reality itself. Surrounding Tyria is the Mists and the only difference is that Tyria is ‘stable’ parts of the Mists. The exact mechanism of how the Mists comes to shape matter is unknown, but what we do know is that it can take the form of past events (as seen in the Fractals) or even alternate events (as seen in the Asura PS) or just random stuff. Fractals are more like a echo of sorts, an imitation of something that is or was.
As for the Dream… we don’t know if it has the same tangible properties. We know the dream is a mental phenomena (the Sylvari are connected to the Dream and their experiences are stored in the Dream i.e. why we were able to see Caithe’s past). But so far we don’t know if the Dream can shape tangible realities like the Mists (every time we go into the Dream are we physically going in or simply going on a out of body experience?).
So the primary thing that connects the Mists and the Dream is this capacity of reflecting past and future events (not sure about future events and the Mists though). But were the Mists seemingly randomly forms fractals the Dream might be more purposeful? Maybe not. We can assume some purpose, i.e. the Wyld Hunts are seemingly an attempt of the Dream to achieve something. But maybe the Dream also just does things because that’s how it works.
Wanted to ask, since the discussion is about Wyld Hunts and the dream, what is the Dream in itself? Was it something placed by Ventari or Mordremoth? Or is it like, something related to the mists? Why is it something exclusive to the Sylvari?
I was thinking that perhaps it was a mechanism placed by Mordremoth to assign roles to its minions? This way it can keep them in check and with a purpose.
Honestly we don’t know. We know it acts as some sort of repository for the collective experiences of the Sylvari (Pale Tree Sylvari at least), it has prophetic powers (as seen by the Pale Tree giving us a vision of the future… maybe also the Wyld Hunts). But the nature, function, and origin of the dream is unknown.
The sword was his. Why would he give you his stuff?
Because he likes us?
Or at the very least because we could guilt him into it “Oh Trahearne did I tell you how hard it was killing Zhaitan? If only I had a magical sword with me… Man I don’t know how I could possible fight the other Elder Dragons without a magical greatsword… If only someone had a magical sword which they clearly weren’t using…”
Remember, lorewise the PC is the Pact’s best fighter by far. While Zojja may have been exaggerating, her statement in Season 2 that the PC is over 70% of Destiny’s Edge’s firepower implies that the PC is better at killing enemies using his or her own skills than five of Tyria’s best NPC heroes combined.
Never thought of it that way… Would have loved it if my Charr could have made a cheesy one-liner “70% on a bad day!”, “70% of the firepower, 100% of the awesome”.
I do really hope we get some decent PC dialog in HoT (now that they have the systems in place).
Overall I think the LW S2, did a much better job showing how powerful the PC really is, than the previous story lines. Of course the PS was more or less his origin story, so it makes sense he isn’t quite as tough from the beginning and LW S1 was more open world content than story instances. Still I hope they continue this trend in the HoT story.
I completely didn’t even register how powerful the PC is. But yeah I guess the PC does do some impressive stuff through the PS and LW. I just assumed however that us single-handedly defeating the Shadow or any other ED Champion was more a ‘mechanics’ than ‘story’. What I mean is, the average player kills enough bandits, centaurs, ettins and random critters to be classified as a walking genocide, but it’s mostly accepted that this is more a ‘mechanics’ thing and not a ‘story’ thing.
Again I think it’s probably due largely to how disconnected the PC seems from the world and events around him (particularly in S2 due largely to no voice-overs, simple dialog trees, limited interaction with other characters etc.).
There’s not much in the way of the lore you’re asking for, unfortunately.
Sadly enough. Although I guess it comes down to the topic of how mundane magic is in Tyria. Asking who the first mesmer was is like asking who the first livestock farmer was, or who discovered fire. It’s been around so long no one knows.
Guardians are what happened to I believe paragons and monks (preservation)
Mix of paragon, monk, ritualist, and possibly a little dervish. Not to say that there might not be regular paragons and ritualists in their own lands still.
Mesmers belong to the school of Denial magic.
They did in GW1, but keep in mind that the schools no longer apply to Tyrian magic. It’s quite possible mesmers have expanded beyond what was considered Denial- actually, IIRC, pre-launch it was said that their healing skills are an example of that.
I think it’s now stronger associated with chaos magic.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Chaos_magic (although the wiki is a bit sparse).
Well since Mesmers can bend mind (illusions), space (portals), time (Chronomancers) and the very essence of matter (Polymorph) I think they’ve stepped a bit outside of denial.
Think they just need a larger variety of body shapes. I actually wish I could make my male norn look a little more human like/less thick. I like my female norn perfectly and wouldn’t want her to change. I want them to look like giant humans, not giant dwarves.
Personally I’m in the camp of Norn should not be similar to human. The argument of course being if you want Norn to look more like human then you could just role a human. Although I’m rather interested in how you see this? Wouldn’t simply rolling a human give you the same thing you want?
I don’t know…I’d love it, if the male and female Norn looked more like belonging to the same race.
I’m suddenly reminded of anglerfish. You see they demonstrate extreme sexual dimorphia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglerfish#Reproduction) i.e. the men and women don’t really look alike… in fact it’s kinda creepy.
But yeah I guess with a humanoid species you’d expect less differences between the sexes.
Kodan males and female are very similiar in bodytype and have a society that is pretty equal, similiar to the Norn. with the Jotun, as far as I know, we didn’t get to meet them yet, so we of course don’t know if they look like blue barbies with a giant balcony, but since their “relatives”, the ogres have also very similiar bodytypes in females and males (but different form of horns, like the charr), I assume that Jotun woman probably are also pretty bulky like the men in their society.
That’s why i think it would fit the Norn concept if it would be possible for the females to look more like their male counterparts.
Well using real world biology all this means is that Norns aren’t monogamous, while Jotun, Kodan and Ogres are all highly monogamous (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monogamy_in_animals#Sexual_dimorphism). I guess it sorta fits, Norn men probably need to bash each other over the head rather frequently to impress the ladies.
Well the problem with the ignorant sleeper agent theory when it comes to Sylvari and Mordy is that it’s a rather specific tactic.
I mean The Great Destroyer was awake before Primordius and was responsible for helping to wake him up. This seems like a reasonable tactic, leave a champion or two behind and have them bring you a proverbial cup of coffee when the time comes.
The problem with the ignorant sleeper agent tactic is that it requires there to a be a fairly organised group of some kind (which the Mordy could not know of since the world changes a lot in the 10,000 year nap that he takes) and that this group would then be willing to allow Sylvari to join them (can’t be a sleeper agent if you can’t infiltrate). If say there is no such group (i.e. there are no kingdoms, nations or empires to appose the EDs) or if such a group is not willing to allow the Sylvari to join them, then basically you just have a bunch of clueless (by design) plant people sitting around doing nothing.
A better tactic would have been to give the Sylvari some knowledge of who and what they are, so that if they were unable to infiltrate possible adversaries then they could do a Great Destroyer and prepare for when Mordy awakens.
Couldn’t we say that the pale tree has a separate non brain washed consciousness from Mordremoth because Ronan and Ventari had such a close connection with the pale tree when it was growing that eventually the Pale tree developed a more “Human” consciousness separate from the Dragon, and therefore the Sylvari are not directly connected to the Dragon like the other Mordrem are?
Glint was only able to develop a ‘human’ consciousness after she was freed from Kralky (also she is telepathic, being able to read peoples minds is a good way of developing a people-like mind I guess https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hidden_Arcana). It seems to me at least that as long as a minion is a minion they can’t simply break free of their own free will.
The second is a bit false, in that nothing says the Dream is locational. Especially since Orr exists within the Dream just as the Tarnished Coast does.
The concept of the Dream of Dreams is very ill defined and nebulous. I’d say it at times looks very much like the Mists (as seen when the Pale Tree gives us a vision trip into the future), but then also acts very much like a sort of prophetic-hive-mind-memory-storage-location. So it could be anything, and work in anyway.
I really wish ANet would give us a bit of information about the Dream of Dreams. Would love to know how and if it relates to the Mists.
This is also why the unhatched dragon egg could be a danger if raised in the wrong hands – it could be raised by the elder dragons to serve them, it could be raised by the Inquest to become a powerhouse for them, White Mantle could raise it and have it worship the mursaat and vow the destruction of Kryta, etc. etc.
So much narrative potential there.
Not sure if an ED would take care of the hatchling. Well the mechanism of ED-ness isn’t well known, we assume that Tequatl was becoming an ED with the absence of Zhaitan. If that is the case it seems likely that an ED could easily promote any of their minions to ED level (or maybe Tequatl is unique since he / she seems to be a dragon-dragon and not a dragon-shaped minion in the same way that Glint appeared to be a dragon-dragon and not a dragon-shaped-minion).
I’m not sure about the timeline, but I assume this was before she got into the machine (since the machine was attached to a leyline nexus which she could only find with the Inquest data).
I’m not sure about the Thaumanova timeline myself, but when she went into the machine it was in Rata Sum- no need for a ley line. The one we found out in Dry Top was presumably either moved or built there later.
Oh ok! So maybe then…
Guild Wars 2 HoT Release Date? [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: CureForLiving.5360
well they used to tell us will have legendary armor… where is it now???
GuildWars2In case you missed it on our livestream from #gamescom2015 this morning: #GW2HoT will be launching in 2015. ~RB2
Source? I’m pretty sure they said they would look into it.
I have a source from The Colin saying:
You won’t see legendary armor any time soon, you will see Ascended Armor in 2013 for sure though, yes.
Saving the best for last.
That’s the spirit!
On the plus side now we’re guaranteed that the next reveal will be one of the medium classes.
Next reveal… HoT Quaggan lore :P
“Are we still a thing?” xD
Nope. They be deleting all medium armor wearers for HoT :P
No they didn’t! ANet revealed their 10 year trench-coat skin development roadmap and all the medium classes decided to re-roll.
Luckily I like my ranger as she is, so if the druid completely blows it won’t be that terrible a thing for me.
Well Elites aren’t suppose to be must-have or outright improvements on the base-class.
ALL medium armor classes already missed one opportunity to test the elite spec to provide feedback. Light armor classes will receive twice the amount of testing. Sorry, that is not fair in my opinion.
You’re assuming that they won’t still be balancing elites months after HoT drops. The testing we get to do now is important, sure, but I don’t think balancing is ever really done.
Gabriell.4856 is perfectly right.
Medium classes will have simply less testing than the others,
I still don t understand why you don t get it @zalavaaris.Which classes should have gotten less testing instead?
Why are we assuming that ANet cannot tweak and polish medium armour classes after HoT releases?
GROAN. Who really cares when a class gets revealed? Does it ultimately matter? One class has to be first and one has to be last. Why look for a conspiracy?
Well humans evolved in an environment where pattern recognition was an important part of survival. Those who could identify the best patterns (i.e. Ung ate red berry, Ung now dead. Me no eat red berry) had a better chance of survival. Furthermore when it comes to survival it’s better to err on the side of caution, that is to say it’s better to think there’s a tiger in the bushes when there is not, then to think there’s not a tiger in the bushes when there is.
It’s the same reason we see so many ‘RNG is broken’ threads, because of this habit of seeing patterns where there are none.
Not Swashbuckler, Corsair. It would be more in-line with present lore.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Corsair
not really. it’s not uncommon in history to have a short/long sword combo, with the short sword used to batter down an enemy’s defences while the long sword is used to deliver the finishing blow.
Wasn’t it the other way around? I’d imagine a longer sword makes for better battering. Of course I haven’t killed anyone with a sword so, more than willing to be wrong.
There is no reason to believe Malyck was lying except for tinfoil hat theories, such as yours – that he was ‘always corrupted.’
And if he was, why wouldn’t he have worked with the Nightmare Court? After all one of the things that stops the Nightmare Court from burning the Pale Tree down is the lack of new Sylvari that would result. In fact that was the whole plot of Malycks story, the Nightmare Court sought him out to find the location of the other tree so they could destroy the Pale Tree and hopefully have more luck converting the other tree.
Judging by the actions of the Shadow it seems Mordy would want the Pale Tree gone.Nightmare Court does not work for Mordy. They are also protected by the dream.
Common goals. The nightmare court would be willing to destroy the Pale Tree if they knew there was another tree (because they assume another tree would be easier to corrupt). Mordy has demonstrated a desire to destroy the Pale Tree. If Malyk was a secret agent he could easily have leveraged the Nightmare Court to indirectly achieve Mordy’s aim. Further there is also some speculation that the Pale Tree plays an important role in providing protection to the Sylvari. If the Pale Tree was out of the way then Mordy would have (eventually) been able to more easily re-acquire all Sylvari, Nightmare Court and not.
That and the fact that no dragon minion ever anywhere acts as a sleeper agent thus far.
What about the undead Mesmer that disguised herself as a Charr and framed the PC for murder?
Or is that stretching the meaning of ‘sleeper agent’?
Scarlet was created in 1320, four years before the Thaumanova Reactor incident. Mordy does indeed employ sleeper agents.
Do we know for certain that Scarlet caused the meltdown for Mordy? From the fractal it just seems she popped in to get the Inquest research on the lay-lines. I’m not sure about the timeline, but I assume this was before she got into the machine (since the machine was attached to a leyline nexus which she could only find with the Inquest data).
And of course have you seen Flame Legion lands? I have no idea how they manage to survive, I don’t see crops growing on scorched lands or cattle surviving the constant rain of fire. Their way of life, a focus on magic and ritual, is everything the other Legions are against, instead of magic they focus on technology.
Semantics, drax. :P
Semantics… or pragmatics? :P
I think we would all agree that it is at least possible that DSD has influence on Canthan shores and is consuming the magic in the jade sea and Echovald forest causing them to revert to their pre jade wind states.
However, this isn’t true. We’ve seen a semi-current world map that shows the jade sea as solid.
That isn’t reliable evidence though. When Dry Top and Silverwastes were revealed they had different a lot from their GW1 equavalents (explainable sure) but it also differed from the unexplored world map. ANet explained it by say that the parts of the map that aren’t explorable are simply best approximations from what info was available and might not be remotely accurate anymore.
Well a couple of important unresolved issues there. Firstly why is the Pale Tree completely and utter unlike any and all other champions that we’ve seen up until now. Well I guess she resembles Glint in a way, but was she also purified in some way? Was it the forgotten? Judging by the backpiece is seems possible to purify Modrem through non-ancient-forgotten-magic, but somehow I don’t see ventari farming all that fox-fire…
Secondly, do Elder Dragons have the capacity to care about anything even their own servants? Oh sure Kalky showed us they can hate their ex-servants, but would Mordy care about whether the Pale Tree is lost or not.
More armour variety? Always nice. I’d like to see armor run the spectrum from realistic (as is currently the case) to unrealistic fantasy. Although to be honestly I’d be happy with more armour in general.
How about we ask for them to attack 100% of the time before we ask for reskins?
Because skins are cooler.
And probably easier to implement (I’m assuming after 3 years now it must be a massive undertaking).
As a mainly ranger player I think this idea is great!
It could be a whole new line of revenue for Anet through their gem store and maybe we rangers could get a pack too!
I think a crows/ravens/vulture/condor skin pack could be cool for Necros.
I’d love it if my Asuran Ranger had a Golem skin to cover his pets.
Awesome Idea!!
![]()
– now its time to steal a bit of it and post a similar thought in the ranger sub forums!
Lot of room for skin-packs.
Necro minion, Ranger pets, Engineer turrets, Guardian weapons etc.
Judging by the actions of the Shadow it seems Mordy would want the Pale Tree gone.
Well personally I find those professional body builder women to be kinda scary. But since this is the lore forum… Well I really don’t see there being any lore issues with having massive muscular Norn women. In fact their absence does seem somewhat odd, given the Norn culture.
What I personally want more than anything is something close to Mass Effect’s codex. That gives lore hounds something to strive for (collecting all codex entries) and at the same time can provide them with additional lore (both about big things and about little things).
Very much something like this.
I’d love to explore the world, come by a new area (maybe complete an event or do some activity) and then learn more about that area, it’s history, people etc.
i dont want to murder them or anything… but they make me feel like a 5th wheel. They get all the cool stuff, story progression and what not and i trot along silently in case something pops up that needs to be killed and watch em talk to eachother…or do miracles.. (taimi and the waypoint system, the teleporting spazz outs of the blonde chick thats so forgetable that i actually cant remember her name and so on) when i should be the one doing all of that… ya know the guys\girls who took down a dragon, fought scarlet, killed countless dragon minions, are high ranked order members and respected members of their race and much more, yet we are degraded from trahearne´s personal shoe polisher to babysitter of the off brand destiny’s edge… feels lame… i hope HoT fixes that
Hopefully being able to talk (or at leave hear some voice over) will help to make players feel less separate from everything. But yes I do agree that the Pack Commander feels like a 5th wheel. But the question becomes how character can they give the PC? That’s a general issue in gaming with the two extremes being a silent protagonist (for players to project on or something) and the other end being the highly scripted character with no dialog options (in essence players simply direct a character instead of inhabiting a character).
Well ANet could make downscaling harsher, not sure how that would go over though.
How about people wanting to get legendary armour, not for the stat switching but for the special-snowflake-ness? After all the legendary PvP backpiece really isn’t going to add anything mechanically.
In a game that is largely focused on skins, legendary’s can be a visual carrot instead of a mechanical one.
Mmm maybe this bug has revealed a new avenue for ANet to monetize, massive minis! (as oxymoron as that is). Seems people like the idea of it in any case.
Would be a bit problematic in combat… maybe a option that auto scales down minis in combat?
I like it when it ground targets to my character, it’s easier for me to just run in to a fight spam my wells (as a necro) and then pull out again than it is for me to click the well, position my mouse and then place the well.
Mind you I guess having it ground target on you on the target healthbar is probably a bit problematic.
To be honest, im not in favor of elitism, but its unavoidable. If the classes were better balanced in pve there will be less elitism, thats for sure, but it will still exist.
I’ll have to disagree to a certain extent. No class is horrible, some classes are better but it’s not as if bringing a necro or ranger with you into a dungeon is a massive handicap or a certain wipe.
I’d argue it is a perception of these classes which is the problem. The elitism is mostly based on opinion than fact.
It deffinately would be nice, and as mentioned before an overall rehash of the skies themes to have it where people are awe-struck by simply looking up would be epic
Yeah the sky boxes could be a bit prettier. Mind you I don’t spend a lot of time looking up, but still.
Heavy legs on Charr are the weirdest.
Particularly head-armour there’s a lot of possible overlapping combinations.
The easiest solution would probably be for ANet to just go through their skins, see which fit together and copy paste them over each other and add them to the wardrobe (although it would probably be a bit harder than that). Or they could simply have 2 armor slots for head, a face slot which would contain things like eye-patches, glasses and masks and another slot for helms.
Other interesting options I’ve seen has been a option to make some of the asymmetric shoulder armors symmetric (i.e. have both shoulders look the same), or even a option to selectively hide one shoulder or the other.
Then there have also been requests to hide chest armor.
The death hammer of death………………………………yes.
Nah I’d prefer the upgraded version: The Deadly Deathly Death-Hammer of Death.
The OP has picked one of the smallest greatswords in GW2 (same basic model as Cobalt) to illustrate the point, which is rather unfair.
Yes, but since he doesn’t have much of a point to begin with I’d imagine he’d want to stack things in his favor as much as possible.
Is this feature supposed to be fun? I’m finding it highly irritating.
Well you can always buy some of these time-limited items off of the TP.
Does everyone have to lower settings for Teq
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: CureForLiving.5360
So I’ve started doing Teq recently and realised I can’t finish the event without the game crashing. I’ve been advise to lower some of my graphics settings to prevent crashing (this is after already repairing GW2, and reinstalling the whole game).
I was wondering does everyone lower their settings for Teq to prevent crashing on a full map?
Nope. I run everything on high, but turn the character limit down. In general though I’ve only had a handful of crashes overall at Teq.
Actually after the nice work that ANet did with summarizing S1 I wouldn’t mind seeing a S2 summary.
perhaps mordremoth will prove much more cunning than Zhaitan, or his minions far more interesting
Zhaitan wasn’t a character, he was a boss in a dungeon.
We didn’t see him until the end of the dungeon at the end of the personal story and our only interaction was spamming 1. We spend most of our time cutting down mindless minions and when we meet a champion who has the capacity to talk they’re treated much in the same way Zhaitan is, they show up and we kill them.
I like the Elder Dragon’s concept and what they do to the world.
That’s fine, basically you have to do a walking dead and put story emphasis on the characters. Personal Story didn’t really do that either, again mostly because you go through character rather quickly.
The biconics seems to be an attempt have a more stable cast, which in theory would allow for more character development. However with the limitations inherent in video game development (you can only put to much voice over and cutscenes in the game), it can be kinda tricky.
They want a villain with mitivations they said, they dont like dragons they said, you guys obviously miss scarlet….
Jip that’s what happened. In PS people complained about dragons not having personality, so they gave us Scarlet XD
However I think a lot of the complaining around Scarlet came from the fact that she was a super-genius-diplomat. The character wasn’t flesh out very well in game, or more I think the problem is that Scarlet wasn’t a character either, she was just there to explain why we’re fighting the Marionette, why we’re assaulting the Tower of Nightmare etc. In fact S2 gave more character and depth than the whole of S1 (and she’s dead in S2).
So what I suspect is that the writing wasn’t that bad it might even have been great, but the conversion and implementation of the writing was problematic. The shape of the S1 content was largely open world and it’s hard to force story and character development in there. Also you only have so much resources to develop content, so then you decide: are we going to spend all this time creating narrative heavy content which can flesh Scarlet out as a character or do we focus rather on making fun open world experiences? Since video games are meant to be played (and listening to dialog and cut-scenes tend to run counter to this) I think a lot more time was put into making fun encounters and less on story.
You mean like the Shadow of the Dragon? Or maybe you mean like the Eye of Zhaitan? We already have these dragon champions in game that we encounter multiple times before defeating them and moving on to the dragon.
Eye of Zhaitan we only encounter like 2 times, once in Abaddon’s temple and then when we kill him / it. I think in total the Eye of Zhaitan only has a handful of lines of dialog and barely does anything.
Shadow of the Dragon was implemented a bit better though. Although again he was treated more as a boss than a character… I really need to figure out how to communicate this better.
Scarlet had no motivations, she was a crazy kitten who came out of nowhere with no explanation and was apparently amazing at everything she did.
Her motivation was very much retroactive given to her (in S2 largely), you assessment of her in S1 is pretty accurate. She shows up, does something then disappears and we fight some of her followers. She was used more to move the plot along. Oh look Scarlet has attacked LA we must stop her! Oh look Scarlet is developing a giant robot, we must stop her!
Trahearne is captured and taken before Mord, and Mord basically possesses him.
This wouldn’t be too bad. Doesn’t have to be Trahearne, but some sort of champion or set of champions that we repeatedly encounter, that we get to know and through whom we can learn the motivations of Mordy wouldn’t be too bad. This could even be used as a mechanism for exploring the nature and origin of the Elder Dragons.
Play a sylvari. Watch the dialogue. I’ll say no more.
Hopefully it will be more than a few lines here and there.
I think they’re dropping the cut-scene conversations. they weren’t that great, and the look got old fast.
Yeah and because they dropped it without a fallback S2 left us rather mute. Nice that it’s in place now.
I think we will be calling the shots, after all, most of Tyria have problems with the trees now.
Some of us also play as trees though…
I’m actually torn. I loved living story season 2, and I wanted to help out Anet with stuff but I was like: “NO! I DON’T WANT SPOILERS! I WANT TO WAIT FOR MY CAKE!”
I’m with you there.
Is your character model quality set to Ultra?
If weddings become a thing in this game, it needs a poly option too.
Wedding will never become a thing in this game, you can see clearly that Anet is focusing all the time on PVP and PVE and wedding does not fit any of this “gameplay”.
This is not that sort of MMO
Other than some buffs that marriage could offer this seem largely a role-play feature, and role-players don’t get too much loving in GW2.
What I miss in this game are some sort of profile other players can read. I have seen those profiles have a free form text field for spouse/partner so if you wanted to add more information (details of your relationship, more than 1 person, whatever) you could.
No buffs or anything needed. It would be a great way for anet to sell wedding stuff in the gem store though.
More useful RP features that aren’t a priority.
Do you think marriage should be character or account bound?
Aren’t all marriages soulbound by default? :P
Not in my country :P
While it is neat, it goes against what Anet had shown to us to be how dragons communicate – not in anything one can easily identify as a language.
Also as Mordy is the dragon of Mind maybe that influences how he communicates?
I think it’s for the better this time. Zhaitan set the bar very low for Elder Dragons, between it’s limited characterisation in the Personal Story, very limited personalities among its minions and the terrible fight mechanics at its defeat, Zhaitan made Elder Dragons look kind of pathetic. Three years later, a lone sylvari succeeded where Zhaitan failed and had a campaign that was all about her for over a year.
Yeah they could have done a bit more, since many of Zhaitan’s Champions seemed to have a limited amount of autonomy. So they could very well have had a bit more personality. Mind you I think the biggest issue is that we don’t get the time to learn any of the minions personalities since most don’t survive outside of a singular instance.
While the voice is cool, I think it would also have been cool if sylvari see flashes of images of what Mordremoth wants its minions in the area to do – like when the camp is under attack, a flash of the survivors being dragged off by mordrem+surviving sylvari.
Well I wanted to say that they don’t have the capacity to overlay images… but then again they’re able to put damage effect and water effects over the screen so hopefully they’d be able to implement something similar to show flashes of images.
We’ve been told numerous times that there are only six Elder Dragons, however.
Stop stomping on my dreams! XD
Even setting the number aside, we know from the records of the survivors of the last rise that they fought a Zhaitan, and a Primordus, and so on. Unless there are multiple Elder Dragons who go by the same name and exhibit the same powers, we’re dealing with the same set that was active last rise.
One group (for example) has 10,000 year cycle, other’s might have a 25,000 year cycle, which means that more than one rising can occur in the period between the longer risings. So it stands to reason that the group with the sorting cycle would awaken more often and be known about more.
Probably not the right forum.
Well the simplest way to measure content would be number of maps.
Mind you this measurement doesn’t take into account things like replayability, content density etc. but you know that’s how people are.
As far as I can tell ANet designed the armours (a fair number at least) for a human and the stretches it to fit Charr, Norn and Asura (well in that case squishes instead of stretches). So yeah things like this is inevitable.
That and the game is coming on 3 years now.
Let’s just finish our current expansion first
I never understood this mentality from a consumer’s standpoint. We’re not the devs, we’re not wasting anyone’s time thinking about the future. Why end a potentially impactful discussion just because it’s looking ahead? We have nothing to finish. We’re the consumers, we have ideas and discussions about what we’re passionate for.
And with that out of the way…
I like the naval combat, personally I think airship combat could be even better. on the subject of boats the only real considerations is how to implement it in the game. Since the maps are all instanced I don’t think an archeage style boat mechanics would work (not that I’ve played Archeage but I did watch a youtube video so I guess that the same :P ).
So likely this would be integrated into WvW, PvP or GvG. All of which would be a instanced space where two or more teams go at it. This takes away a bit from the ‘cool factor’ since in this case it’s little more than a fancy WvW or PvP map. The ideal implementation would be having a true open world where it would be possible to accidentally run into other players, choose to engage or retreat etc.
3 on expansion release, then 3 more every couple of updates or so (or in increments Anet find manageable for creating the scavenger hunts) until we have a full set.
At least that is how I took it.
My thoughts as well. In think setting up the scavenger hunts is where the delay really is. Likely ANet already has far more than those intended 3 complete (skin wise at least) but they’re now figuring out the scavenger hunt part.
I wouldnt bet on them adding new ones any time soon. these 6 legendaries took them like 2 years? and only 3 ready with release? there would probably be another expansion before any past 6 were released.
In your hypothetical scenario ANet has been working on those new legendaries for 2 years now. We have no proof of this being the case. The first time (as far as I know) they mentioned new legendaries is the beginning of this year. So we cannot assume they’ve had people working on this for 2 years now for all we know they only started on them in January.
So will the stuff released after the expansion but not part of it will be available to people who didn’t buy it? This is getting confusing. We’re waiting for an expansion we have pre-paid for and they are telling us that some of it will be released after.
Are all updates subsequent to the expansion considered part of it?
IIRC, i read that all updates after HoT will required HoT (except bug fix)
that is one of the perk of buying HoT
Living Story yes. We don’t know if the Legendaries will be tied to the living stories, or if the scavenger hunts will require HoT. Mind you as far as I remember precursors will still drop randomly, simply now you’d have a means of getting them without having to sacrifice to the Gods of RNG.
Wow, what a kittening joke.
In what way?
Lol you guys think you’re actually going to see those 3 new legendary weapons? If you really think that then I have a bridge in brooklyn i’d like to sell you…
I mean look at the track record so far:
2013: promise to have a full set of new legendary weapons by the end of the year
2013: (3 months later)- Delayed
2013: (5 months later)- Delayed again and back to the drawing board
2014: Crickets
2015: (April)- Announced a new SET of legendary weapons coming with the expansion
2015: (June)- Announced that only a “handful” of Legendary weapons will be in the expansion with the rest to follow
2015: (August) Announced that only 3 weapons will be in at HoT launch, and only 3 more are planned at this time.I mean how gullible can you guys get… there are NO legendary weapons, this is just 2013 all over again.
Edit: LOL it is even worse than I thought. They specifically say they are adding 3 new legendary ITEMS at launch… guess what… they already revealed 2 of those to be BACKPACKS. That means at most we are now getting ONE legendary weapon at launch lol.
You know its people like you that caused ANet to stop communicating things that were in-development?
They will add more in time.
This is full priced expansion not some season pass. “More sometime in the future” is not OK for an expansion.
So I take it you buy a WoW expansion and complain that they haven’t added all the Raids in one go as well?
Wish New Wep/Skills Are Available Out Of Spec
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

This simply can’t be done cause a different elite spec may use a different weapon, and having a class eventually use all weapons seems a bit useless, so they are bound to the elite spec.
I like the idea of different specs being able to use the same weapon but with different abilities. So you could have the base weapon abilities or the spec weapon abilities.
Well I’m a necro players so I really don’t have the same problem (the weapon and the mechanic changes are awesome!), but I guess I can see where the issues are coming from.
if they did that, you’d lose the “special” part of “specialization”
Yeah. Well they do introduce some new mechanics, but not to such an extent that the mechanic changes in and of themselves would be particularly ‘special’. Mind you I’d have liked the specialisation to really change how a class feels and plays, but yeah if that was the case they might just as well have added a new class or two instead of specialisation.
I say if Anet wants specializations, i Suggest these are handled and equipped outside of the Trait lines/Specializations. We wouldn’t be forced to equip the Spec just for one thing , and would make sense when additional specs come in the future.
Now that I think about it disconnecting weapons from specs would eventually end up in a bit of a balancing nightmare. At present you have 5 specs and then an elite, so six in total. You can only equip 3 at a time and elites are mutually exclusive. So that means Each Elite and thus each weapon only needs to be balanced against 10 (think my math is right) combinations. Decoupling weapon from spec means that a weapon need to be balanced against a far large number of spec combos.
So maybe ANet is just trying to keep thing manageable?
What would happen when Anet releases more Specs like this? How will it even work if lets say i have 3 new specs equipped and they all change the virtues?
just a comment on this, elite specs won’t be able to be mixed, so let’s say they add another elite spec, you can’t use both the new one and the dragonhunter one. You can only use one elite, and combine it with 2 core specs.
Yeah at present the choices aren’t that meaningful, however as the system expands you’d have more conflicting options to choice from. In this case with dragonhunter it’s only really a matter of ‘well I like the weapon but them virtues…’ while down the road with more specializations it becomes more of a consideration when you’re faced with more weapon / virtue combinations.
But, I’m not going to really accept a person who is a norn-human hybrid of the current generation. Maybe if somebody gave a really, really good explanation of it. :P
Inquest hybridization experiments?
Step 6: Mordremoth looks and says “You know what? I f——-g quit.” He then pops off his planty skull cap, scoops out his plant brain, drops it on the ground and stomps on it ’til he dies.
Reminds me of the Furry Force XD
