Well ‘as old as the mountains’ (or more specifically ‘so oud soos die berge’) is a saying in my language, so I did assume it was more figurative but given the fantasy nature (and not remember Eir’s quote) I did hope it could be literally.
It’s a long standing question, especially as it makes one wonder how the jotun race – who’ve encountered the Elder Dragons rising multiple times (or so their legends and myths imply) – could survive so long. If the ED rose every 10,000-11,000 years like the Priory claim (and they only claim this because that was when the Giganticus Lupicus went extinct – Varra Skylark’s discovery in Arah doesn’t hold much water because she outright states that the stars do not determine events on Tyria but that they have a cycle, which the Elder Dragons seem to match – which is weird, tbh), then the jotun race would be at least 30,000 years old. For world enders like the Elder Dragons, that’s not a very good job they’ve been doing when only the last dragonrise resulted in their ‘defeat’ (so to speak).
Do we know that the Jotun have survived multiple rising? I’d assume it worked in a similar way to Mass Effects and the Reapers, in ME the reapers ignore less developed species and only cull the advanced ones. I’d assume that many races who have not yet developed a sufficient magical proficiency would be able to survive (although barely) during a rising as a result of them not having anything the EDs are interested in (like magic). So I’d assumed given the 10,000 years period that in the 10,000 preceding the previous rising is when they rose to sufficient magical proficiency to draw the attention of the EDs.
I don’t do Fractals, i hate the toxicity in the community that plays that content
Really? Maybe the US servers are the bad ones, haven’t experienced this in the EU.
If you put up an LFG saying you only want to do lvl 1 swamp
Yeah… I guess you haven’t done lvl 1 swamp recently? In the 1-10 range you’re more likely to get inexperienced players (who are more often than not mute regarding the subject of their inexperienced leading to situation where only after said experienced has wiped the group they decide to inform the rest of us… but that’s a different topic, but how hard is it to say ‘I haven’t done this fractal’, I seriously don’t mind explaining… but yes different topic).
The only suffering i have happen in fractals is when people don’t read the LFG advertisement.
And anything other than a lvl XX description I avoid, so it works out well for all parties.
My ranger is my fractals speed run meta character. I think most people have come around to accepting rangers these days too.
Was only ever kicked once in a fractal on my ranger, and that was in the reactor fractal… although I’m pretty sure my pet was on passive I think they just scapegoated me XD
I used LFG to go from 1-50, I only met one person that was a kitten. The OP and I must be playing two different games.
Perhaps a fellow EUer?
Funny fact. I’ve done Dailies almost every day, and I’ve yet to do a Fractal one. So, I guess it’s really..yes or no?, rather than yes or yes.
It’s really a matter of varying levels of ease. Apparently OP has a very low cut off point for when inconvenience is too much.

Maybe something like necro’s spectral walk?
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Spectral_Walk
If fractals are going to be the new (or part of the new) challenging group content then it makes sense that they’d have special rewards that you’d have work for.
Again here I’m seeing the ‘I don’t play Y but still want X!’ instead of (the far better argument) ‘Give other play-styles more high level rewards’
Guild Wars 2 HoT Release Date? [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: CureForLiving.5360
I think the recent tinfoil theories about the release date being pushed back because of players expressing concerns over the amount of maps etc has some merit.
The only issue is, how fast can they crank out new maps? And then how much are they willing to push back the release date?
Maybe they could add 1 new map, maybe 2. If they don’t include too much verticality and keep the events fairly straight forward (so now long events chains, not too much dialog / lore etc.).
What I find interesting to consider is the new WoW expansion http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/19841681/new-world-of-warcraft-expansion-unveiling-at-gamescom-2015-live-stream-august-6-7-29-2015
Not sure if ANet would reveal anything at gamescom and risk it getting drowned out by WoW excitement.
Anet doesn’t communicate with their player base. I may just be spending too much time in necro forums though..
More accurately ANet does not communicate what they’re planing or working on, until they know it will be released. That is to say, we only ever hear about details when they’re mostly done with whatever they’re detailing.
Hate to break it to you i doubt we are getting any dungeons considering they fired their dungeon designer a while back. Honestly this game is probably gonna be all open world events with world bosses, the bane of all things i swear.
But they were looking for a raid designer
http://www.pcgamesn.com/guild-wars-2/arenanet-are-hiring-a-guild-wars-2-game-designer-for-raid-content
they should have not announced hot until they had been working on it for more than a month! that is why we are waiting so long they worked on hot probably a couple weeks and said expansion coming ! get on board hype train for the next 8-12 months
We don’t know how long they’d been working on it, some estimates tend to be a year or less (given that they were working on the Chinese release for well over a year and before that LW S1). For the most part estimates comes down to how long and how many people were working on S1 i.e. how much time and capacity they in theory had to work on expansion content.
Star Citizen has raised 85,458,218 and they have no release date.
And apparently some controversy.
Anyone else think that these items should have the limit removed? I don’t about you all, but I’m still getting wayyy too much bloodstone/dragonite/etc to keep up with. It’d be nice if the limit was just lifted so we could just clear out the inventory for good.
SW CF folk would be happy.
There was a story, but that didn’t showed what scarlet saw into the eternal alchemy. I tonly saw he got into omadd machine, and got out of there crazy.
So what? No seriously look at what he said: he said the machine (not the alchemy, not what she saw) didn’t appear during S1. This is false as I pointed….
Also moving the goal post.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeswYJgf5mM
Short Story: What Scarlet Saw — This simply tells readers that she saw something, just like the quote that went with the section. But including the actual cinematic that brought a lot of excitement/speculation to the community when it was released seems like a completely unnecessary spoiler just thrown into the recap.
Call it a preview then.
The short story’s depiction is nothing like the cinematic from The Machine
Which still remains irrespective of the point I made though. How the short story depicts the vision is not the point, the existence of the machine during a particular period is.
Makkay’s VO is played client side, so every player will hear the right lines regardless of how many people are interacting with her. Also, all her lines are logged to chat so you can read it afterward. It’s new tech that we plan on using more often in the future.
Any chance of retro-actively adding this to the current content?
Well I do find the lack of interracial couples to be odd. So homosexuals and transsexuals are fine but furries aren’t? :P
I could totally see a human x charr relationship. Maybe norn x charr? Some Braham x Rox XD
How about an Asura that primarily studies fauna and flora and spends alot of time out in the jungles and plains and thus has developed ranger skills?
if this is a lazy way to throw in season 1 then i’m getting really moist and salty :c
Players were asking for this! Players were suggesting this.
This is just Anet listening to the players.
And I for one am very glad that ANet has at least done something, they can always expand upon it later.
Two issues with the cinematic:
- “No one at first knew why she began her reign of terror. Some say she peered into the very fabric of the universe and went insane.” — Omadd’s machine isn’t shown until Season 2: Entanglement — The Machine, so why is it included to show what she saw? It ruins the build up to discover what really happened to her.
There was a short story, outside of the game, but very much made available during S1.
Hi all,
Just to reiterate what was written in Mike’s blog post today -https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/a-new-way-to-protect-your-account/
We won’t spam you; we’ll use your phone number solely for the purpose of keeping your account secure.
You do have a choice of using SMS or the Authenticator and it is optional, but we encourage you to make your accounts more secure and to say thanks you get a free mini mystical dragon.
Win/win!!
So we can’t use both then?
They’re mutually exclusive… well not really I guess but it would be a rather laborious process.
They’ll probably bring back all of the skins that aren’t available on the TP, one per week until the anniversary.
Fused, Etc
Why not permanently!
Although I have no idea why I want this. I’m not a key farmer, and I get keys so infrequently and chest drops so few scraps I’d probably never get any full sets…
Huh it looks like my daily achievements are character specific… I’ll try checking it out, but in theory I can complete multiple dailies.
EDIT: No it’s just displaying oddly. Some characters show the daily completed, others not, but on the ones that show it not completed I can’t complete them
EDIT 2: Also have the hero point issue… not that it affects what skills I have, it just displays oddly again.

Disable Area of Effect Rings — Hides the area of effect rings normally shown on the ground?
Would it survive by remaining DX9?
Someone needs to explain this to me.
As far as I can see all newer cards are DX9 backwards compatible, so from a purely pragmatic perspective you’d still be able to play it.
Windows 10 coming out in 2 day is Direct 12 encluded.
But still run DX9
How high should the next X Pack go without looking kitten?
I don’t think Direct X works like that. Looking like kitten is more than simply which API you use to make it, it’s a matter of models, polygon count, aesthetics, and what rendering technology is being applied.
Simply making it DX12 won’t make the graphics any better. A graphic overhaul would make it better, and sure DX12 would have never technology that could make it look prettier but that’s only a single aspect of the whole and not in and of itself the solution.
I wonder if the game engine has been upgraded in some way already.
They did say they laid the foundation so that other ewxpansions will be easier to make
or some such.
This is more in terms of scalable mechanics. Masteries for example is a system that can easily be expanded upon (by adding more masteries). Guild Halls can be expanded upon (by adding more decoration and more guild halls).
I don’t think they were referring to graphics.
Eh… this… sorry this has basically been discussed to death, with lots of shouting. But maybe you weren’t around then.
Anyway, most MMOs tend to have a massive decrease in the price of their base games, and / or previous expansion whenever a new expansion comes out. This is because you often must have the base game and other expansion in order to play the newer content (think WoW, you need the base game and all expansion to play the newest content). This is a barrier to entry. ANet decided that they’d rather remove the barrier to entry all together. So instead of making the base game say $5, they decided to add it for free. No barrier to entry. New players don’t have to worry about having previous version, one price, one game and you’re good to go.
And you can just ignore jumping puzzles. Though if you don’t, you will get better and they won’t be quite that awful anymore. Some people absolutely love them, they deserve something they like in the game too.
This.
It’s not (well maybe… world completion needs a couple of JPs) mandatory content, and some people love it.
Necro not looking good for PvE in HoT
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: CureForLiving.5360
And this goes back to that scam ANet’s trying to peddle about difficult content.
There’s no trinity to force group composition and we already have content that is designed to kill you in 1 hit unless you dodge. That’s pretty much the most extreme PvE you can muster in a game like this… if you mess up even once, you die.
The only way you make content like this harder is put a DPS check in there so if you don’t beat the boss in X seconds, he’ll do his 1 hit KO even faster until the point you can no longer dodge them. But that would be our worst nightmare considering the Necro in particular would have no hope.
Mmm interesting topic. I’d probably say that claiming ANet is pushing a scam is a bit hyperbolic, but lets look into it.
I think the whole importance of trinity is commonly overblown. Having trinity does not mean content can be made more difficult then when we don’t have trinity, all it means is that we have 3 distinct roles. Nothing more nothing less. As for group composition… eh really don’t believe “LF 1 More Heal Ele” is the way to go.
Now that said it does seem (looking at revenants and elites) that we might be going for a soft trinity of sorts, which might indicate the direction in which they want to go with challenging content. But I do believe there are ways to add difficulty beyond simply adding 1-shots. Things such as positioning the boss (something like dredge fractal), needing to use environmental items (something like jade fractal), having to avoid environmental hazards (something like the end fight in the aether fractal) or having to interrupt abilities (like seems to be a thing when breakbars become a thing). And this is not including boss specific abilities (such as when to dps when not to dps) are also possible means of adding difficulty.
Mind you all of these do become easier via rote, but other than adding dynamic elements to a boss fight all things become easy with enough rote. I think this is a major problem with current content, it’s been out too long, everyone knows the tactics by heart.
It boils down to balancing across the board… which A-Net have been notoriously bad at with GW2.
I’d argue that balance isn’t the problem, it’s the lack of proper challenging content.
Currently the meta is zerk-zerk, that means when a profession doesn’t do enough dps then it becomes ‘unbalanced’. Unfortunately this mindset ignores all other aspects of a class.
Firstly doubt post https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/This-vid-1
Now onto your post.
It really comes down to the design philosophy of GW2, and in particular HoT. GW2 doesn’t want to be a gear-treadmill (think like WoW where with each new raid you need to replace all your equipment with a new tier). In essence doing so invalidates all the time and effort you’ve placed into gearing up your characters (just makes some ascended armor and you’ll know what I mean).
Also GW2 wasn’t designed to make you a god that can one short low level NPCs. That’s why they have the ability to scale your level down, although primarily this is so you can play with your low level friends (something that other MMOs don’t really facilitate well). Mind you the scaling is a bit wonky (level 80 full ascended in start zones does pretty much one shot everything…), but the idea is there.
As for new levels and gear. Well that’s called vertical progression. GW2 is looking to implement horizontal progression with the mastery system. So instead of getting more levels, you’ll be able to get new abilities and skills.
you have have = gear and stats as everyone else which to me there is no point because that’s the ultimate goal in MMO’s
We can probably argue the point, but there is nothing inherent about MMOs that require it to be a stat race. Now maybe for MMORPGs we could argue that, but then RPGs (going back to the tabletop days) doesn’t inherently have to be stat and gear focused either.
Sure a sense of progression is useful and important on MMOs, but simply having better stats then the next person isn’t always the way to go.
We could also talk about skill vs gear, but that’s another topic.
Well you know burn is slightly out of balance when my poorly spec condi-guardian is just killing things left and right.
Still… I like it that way it is
I’d love unique skins.
Not sure about uniting them, since there’s at least one achievement that requires identical books.
Instead or remaking it, I’d say just make available the rest of Orr. It’s less that half way playable as is. In new areas you can start showing the slow change of Orr.
just no on all accounts, learn how to get transmute charges and be happy
I’ve got a 190 myself. Map completion and pvp ftw!
Mind you I guess newer players haven’t been playing long enough, still eventually you get more than you know what to do with.
It’s interesting that Guild Wars 2 is about to have its 3rd birthday and the best we can hope for is recycled gemstore items or maybe some rewarmed over old event. No decorated cities, fireworks, fun events, good loot, general craziness and good times.
/sigh
Yeah. Well apparently they’re busy working kitten HoT, so it’s not like they simply don’t care.
I know there are mechanical advantages to having a solo guild, but isn’t that technically a oxymoron? Not sure if ANet should cater to solo guilds. Really why do people have solo guilds, for some extra bank space? Because they like the name? No seriously, give me a good reason, I might honestly agree with you. But at present all I see solo guilds as is a way to get extra storage space without having to pay gems.
Besides your argument is: I want housing, so give me a guild hall. Well I can respect your desire for housing, and I full understand how someone with a solo-guild would be of such a mindset (given the nature of solo guilds) but how about rather asking ANet to give us proper housing?
However small guilds is something to consider.
That is my point, why does it have to be a group event in the first place? It is only a “housing” feature that if easily offered in most MMOs.
Because a game that just gives you everything is not fun. The appeal of a MMO is this sense of working towards something.
We have very little details on the exact amount needed or mechanics of the event. Speculation out there is that small/solo guilds will need help.
Yes but we don’t know this. You’re speaking as though this is a fact.
It is like penalizing and discriminating certain players for a feature they fairly paid for.
That’s like saying all dungeons and world bosses should be solo-able. Your logic is flawed. Some aspects of a MMO will obviously require multiplayer, as the name suggests.
Besides guilds are an inherently group thing, if you want to we could even play the definition game but I think we all can agree that guilds do not invoke a imagine of a singular person. It is not unfair to expect groups to perform group content.
I think plenty of people will be out there offering to help with guild hall getting. I know I will. Unless the fight is hours long, I can well imagine a rotation with people taking turns helping the fights for small and solo guilds.
There may be some mercenaries involved, but I won’t charge a copper for my help (though I will likely secure my own hall(s) first).
So there’s all sorts of ways to game-the-game.
Really wish they’d sit the kitten down and a write Dx 11/12 renderer. Would solve so much of my issues…
I don’t agree. So one of us really doesn’t understand how directX coding works. Probably me though, but my opinion on the matter is that simply changing all the references from DX9 to DX11/12 will not fix anything. They’d have to do a proper implementation thereof that would involve a lot more than simply changing a bit of code here and there. I’m assuming to get the most out of DX11/12 would mean implementing additional functionality not found in DX9, and optimizing a lot of code to make full use of DX11/12. At the very least the amount of effort to implement and then optimize for DX11/12 would be a lot more than simply fixing the issues with DX9.
So yeah probably Mac/Linux… Apparently people like those platforms…
Guild Wars 2 is my last Windows dependency. I welcome a Linux version.
I’ve met too many linux users that have horrible soured my toward the platform… not to mention the amount of hassle that was caused at work when the one guy decided all the coders now need to format their PCs and install linux… because Java?
It’s pretty hard to respect a company that decides to invalidate your progress that you obtained through hours of tough play ( getting to FOTM level 49) and resetting everyone to level 30 because of “leaderboards” which they have no idea how to implement and then completely abandon.
In that case do not play any MMOs with gear-treadmills (which is a very large percentage of them… as far as I know).
Look at the LS – that annoyed a LOT of people. I don’t think anybody remembers the days of LS season 1 fondly – with the rushed releases that had massive bugs that people exploited and content that left after 2 weeks never to return again.
I do! Molten Facility was a good dungeon… too bad I didn’t get my pack piece… Rather liked the Tower of Nightmares design, still think Marrionette is better than vinewrath.
This is what most of the player base anger boils down to right now, I think. It’s the lack of communication/poor communication that has been going on not just for a week, but for a couple of years now.
I know the recent stuff in WvW was mentioned in this thread. The one time a dev came into that forum this week to talk to us about a fix for lag issues, they were met with appreciation, not anger. There was civil conversation.
I seem to remember the whole business about the precursor scavenger hunt… ANet tried communicating their plans but that didn’t work out well. Since then they’ve only communicated about things that are done or mostly done.
Also as for years, maybe. But I honestly think that with the specialisations they’ve been extremely communicative about the changes and rationality behind it.

And this is someone who doesn’t care about story, rather mechanics. This is the issue, those who engage mechanics won’t like it when for narrative purposes mechanics are changed or removed (however this being a video game you’d likely want to steer away from ludonarrative dissonance).
Ok, I am interested in what you have to say about the narrative purposes mechanic changes that will happen. Theory or whatever.
So given this problem I find it highly unlikely that ANet would alter or lock away mechanics for story purposes. Or at least do so for any span of time. Maybe within the scope of a story instance you can turn evil and at the end of the instance you’re good again. I don’t think they would spread it out over multiple instances, maybe the corruption process but not full out corruption.
1) An opt in, Friendly Fire: On
A player with a Sylvari can go into options or have a toggle on the hud and turn this feature on. Still appearing as friendly until they change their status. A zerg battling one of Mordremoth’s Champions is suddenly burst apart by a party of Sylvari minions among them.
Lots of potential for roleplay and (unfortunately) trolls (Mordrem Trolls?)
So I was in curse shore today, and they were doing the fail farm. Noting my disapproval with purposefully failing events, I was somewhat berated. Now it’s nothing report-able but I’ve heard other players complaining about the similar and worse encounters.
Given people this option would enable grieving which could lead to a lot of hate, cursing, and abuse.
2) Environmental triggers. Certain areas, or times of day lower a Sylvari’s resistance to Mordremoth. Note: All the Sylvari that were turned, were off the ground at the time. Did this weaken their connection to the Dream? In trying to reconnect to the Dream connect them to Mordremoth instead?
I’d be all for it in the scope of an event. Say an event in which Sylvari players can be corrupted for the scope of that event.
As a human main, I look forward to the Human Elder Dragon so I can turn and play a bad guy.
Oh no need to worry, humans can become branded, risen and I’m fairly sure icebrood. So there’s a lot of options.
^ You are assuming it would work to just turn it back on. That is rather unlikely.
But it’s easy. You just go into the room full of buttons at ANet HQ and press the “activate LW S1” button!
https://youtu.be/KI9PQjWoPV4?t=12m43s
the only Charr siblings im aware of are Rox and Rytlock, who are of different ages.
Where’d you hear they were siblings? I sorta remember someone saying they were originally gonna be related somehow (like father and daughter) but that idea was scrapped in the final version.
It was a datamined dialogue for the S1 finale, iirc. The version that was mined turned out to be incorrect, but that doesn’t mean the idea was scrapped. There’s still some sort of unexplained history between Rytlock and Rox, and since it’s the only explanation we know of ArenaNet playing with, them being half-siblings seems a little likelier than the other options.
So at present it basically somewhere between theory and confirmed, but not really either.
Only if they add an achievement that gives the title “Master Baiter”.
+1 XD
I was thinking, since we work so kitten getting everything we need to craft ourselves a legendary weapon and the only advantage it gives us is a nice skin, but the stats are the same as ascended weapons that kinda made me think, is a skin worth the trouble?
To each their own. I guess you could just buy it off the TP if you don’t want to craft it.
Also legendaries can stat swap without having to go to the mystic forge.
No just no, it doesn’t take long to run/swim across a map to unlock WP’s
My thinking as well, but….
Or add a PVP reward that allows a player to unlock a single WP(all WPs will be visible but greyed out until unlocked).
Maybe something like this? Although honestly completing a full reward track would probably be more time consuming than just running to the map/
first off I’m old, have 4 kids etc so my ideas are old school.
The one does not inherently assume the other. Lets assume you starting making babies at around 16 (although conceivably we could even push that down to 13-14 but that would be weird), so 9 months per-baby, give 2-3 month between babies, so conceivably you could be in your early late teens / early twenties. That isn’t even assuming you’re male and have more than one female partner, hey not judging my country still allows bigamy, in fact the president of my country has like 3 of wives.
Yes, pedantic but I just wanted to point that out, since I’m at present procrastinating.
They’re just the typical QQ element every single major MMO forum is cursed with. It’s to be expected.
I’d argue it’s a component of the internet, or more accurately a result of how easy modern technology makes it to complain. 30 years ago if you wanted to protest something you actually had to get out of your chair, get some glitter make a poster and stomp around in circles outside. Now you just tweet a hashtag. If you wanted to send someone abuse, you actually had to write a letter, go to the post office and mail it to them. Now you can just tweet it at someone. Yes I know I’m using twitter a lot here, but I think this is relevant to most social media platforms.
“I hate people complaining, let me complain about those complainers!”
Actually no that would be a strawman. OP is complaining about how the forumites are complaining about things which, according to his perspective, really isn’t significant at all. He uses the whole price thing as an example.
I thought that dev posts were flagged as such.
Implying sock-puppet-ery?
That would be an ad hominem, irrespective if OP is a dev or not his point is separate from himself.
(edited by CureForLiving.5360)
So yeah probably Mac/Linux… Apparently people like those platforms…
Perhaps this is a stupid question, but I’m just about to start playing so I’m wondering. If I can enter PVP on max level and I have gear also from the very beggining. Why should I level up? (besides going through the lore of course)
I mean, can I get better gear than the one they give by default if I play the whole story?
Pretty much for PvE content. You also get a better advantage in WvW. In HoT elite specs will only be available at 80… again probably only relevant for PvE content.
Anets light bulb way to enhance player retention.. egg timer World Boss trains, CS and Frosty champ trains + failfarming obviously weren’t keeping the numbers above the bean counter’s line so they introduced SW rather than .. you know, developing better content with a higher replay value… but no, shovel farming fits in nicely with the “we don’t think players want the swing a sword, swing a sword again and again” so we will use shovels instead.
I just tend to avoid SW all together these days and let the masses dig holes all day long.
It’s not really so much ANet designing the game that way so much as players finding paths of least resistance.
You know there’s already a thread for this… right here.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Leah-Hoyer-Any-Sylvari-could-turn/

They are very well capable of having a mechanic that “turns” players.
Those that were around for the end of the first beta weekend will tell you so.
The branded zombie apocalypse in Plains of Ashford was the most epic event GW2 ever had. Branded invaded the area. If you were killed by branded you re-spawned as a branded and attacked other players and turned them too.
Well other than some balance issues (not sure how many Sylvari there are compared to other races) but yeah something like this would be pretty nice.
Not sure if it should be implemented in the same way as the Branded events.
Without more details, I’m going to assume it’s just a story progression thing, and “even the player characters could turn” just means Sylvari players will have “resisting Mordremoth” as a major theme in their stories.
Most likely. I’d prefer narrative though mechanics, although that’s kinda error prone.
I only have Sylvari characters. I don’t want to “turn” because evil things always lose in games so what’s the point?
Except Scarlet, she pretty much wiped the floor with us. Oh sure we killed her but she set out to awaken Mordy, she succeeded and destroyed LA to boot.
If they actually allow Sylvari players to join Mordremoth, it’s likely possible they’d do the same for all the other races.
I’d love this. If only for added character customization. Just imagine being able to go through a long, difficult and (ideally) awesome quest line in which you get to add some more visual flare to your character. Would you like some Branded Crystals character customisations? How about some Icebrood ice? A Risen zombie-look? How about a bit of molten Destroyer?
Wouldn’t happen, too much work.
Near the end of the quest chain, you became infected with Lycanthropy, and any town you went to, the guards would kill you on sight. You had to finish the quest chain that eventually cured you of your lycanthropy.
This was the first time I had ever encountered a questline that really did something different like that. It was pretty involved and interesting, something that I just don’t really see in GW2. I felt like part of the story. I cannot really think of any time in the living stories where I felt like that.
If they could somehow pull it off that you, as a Sylvari that turns against the Pact, I would really be impressed.
This would be awesome… until the forumites complain that ‘oh I can’t pvp, or dungeon, or whatever! Stop forcing me to not play the way I want!‘.
Eh but then again some players don’t engage with story, so they’d hate something like this.
ANET turning PVE into a Semi-PvP now?
Then I just logged into my non-Sylvari char. What’s is the point of this?
Or better yet, ANET should just ask everyone who are playing Sylvari to delete their chars and make other race, because they will stop making Sylvari as a playable class. If not, the storyline loophole and this PvP in a PvE nonsense doesn’t make any sense at all!
And this is someone who doesn’t care about story, rather mechanics. This is the issue, those who engage mechanics won’t like it when for narrative purposes mechanics are changed or removed (however this being a video game you’d likely want to steer away from ludonarrative dissonance).
Necro not looking good for PvE in HoT
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: CureForLiving.5360
Title is too short to capture the thread but in a nutshell the Necro is not looking good for the rumored challenging group content in HoT.
You mean the content that has not been revealed in any way shape or form?
In other words, please read my wordpress.com blog post (the equivalent of the 90’s Geocities) because I think it is important.
Yeah… at the least OP could have bullet pointed the main ideas…. on the bright side I know copy-paste so…
I’ve been thinking this post over for years, and yet it’s still hard to put into words. Arenanet is consistent in its inconsistency. That is to say that they repeatedly and frustratingly introduce things and then never touch them again, never adjust them, never support them, never standardize how to acquire an item or worst of all they only briefly make them available and they’re never seen again. They set the groundwork for something, make a show of it, and then don’t follow through. It’s a combination of neglect and lack of foresight.
Yeah I guess I agree. Anet loves implementing scalable systems (fractals is the big one for me), yet never scales.
Not sure about temporarily available items though. I’d love to be able to get some of those 1-time items that are no longer available, but having 1-time items does serve as a reward for veteran players (i.e. only veteran players can have them… assuming the Gods of RNG smiled down on them).
Only if Anet wasnt already having kitten tons of money with the cash shop.
And its not like in 3 years they used a lot of development resources for the very few thing they made for the game..
Just saying.
I guess I could ask for evidence on both those statements, but that would simply be rhetorical. No, unless you actually work for ANet you don’t know how much money the cash shop makes or how much development resources they’ve spent or did not spend.
Just saying.
When Guild Wars 3 is announced, how would a $15 subscription model with a major expansion release every 30 months affect your decision to buy the game and why?
Certainly I’d not be willing to pay a monthly fee though.
Personally i don’t like him because (summed up):
- Some of the most terrible voice acting i’ve heard in any game. Even picachiew has more depth and feeling then him.
- He quite literally takes credit for everything you do.Can you give me a single example of where he “takes credit” for anything you’ve done? I ask because looking at the actual dialogue, usually he’s going out of his way to build you up, not knock you down.
I finished the personal story for my characters years ago. Don’t expect me to go back and replay it just to give u quotes. All i remember is i hated those 2 things i listed each time i finished the PS. You can go through it yourself and see it.
Burden of proof usually resides on the party making claims.
To me he’s ok, except his profession. In my opinion, necromancer and engineer are the most un-sylvarilike profession, yet two important characters are Trahearne and Scarlet.
Well in the case of Scarlet it was an important defining characteristic. Scarlet (well Ceara) purposefully went against Sylvari teachings and ideals, she purposefully sought un-sylvarlike-ness and to follow her own destiny. So her being an engineer makes a lot of sense.
Trahearne however… I guess you can’t research Orr without being a necro? Yeah, it’s something odd which never really comes up.
The problem for me is the voice acting as mentioned above. The first time through the PS I thought it sounded as if the voice actor was either bad at his job or bored with what he was performing.
I thought it was text-to-speech XD
They don’t want players playing the game without playing the game.
They cant even manage to give us a character bio section or an inspect function. This won’t happen.
I think inspect function is a purposeful (and good) exclusion though.
I think humans make up the bulk of the playerbase or norns
I am pretty sure that humans make up all of the playerbase. : )
What about the otherkins? :P
If tengu were in the game Anet would have more incentive to do better with their armor, though.
Depends on how popular they would be.
“To continue playing the game after HOT launches – existing players would need to pay a nominal expansion fee of around $15 or there account would be suspended.”
Ya, no. That would be a kitten storm to end all kitten storms.
With the release of the expansion they are effectively doing that, but making everyone pay 50 instead of 15. I have no doubt the new specializations will be OP.
A bit cynical, but yeah in essence that’s how the expansion model works. The box price covers the cost of development.
We have a wallet, why not a key-ring?
What they draw on is the imprints, ‘echoes’, of extraordinarily important figures on the Mists, which mirrors things that happen in Tyria.
And beyond Tyria. It’s implied that the Mists might be a multiverse.
