With the jumping puzzle addition, I now no longer need to deal with any pvp or WvWvW. Thank you Anet for making that decision easy for me. One less thing to worry about now.

BTW: You should have varing difficulty levels on all your jumping puzzles.

I read this and i got so happy that they’d removed the WvW 50 kills from monthly, enough to make me log in just to check that, but no.. It’s still there. Therefore i really don’t unstand your post how do you not have to deal with any pvp or WvW when you have to have 50 kills. Even if you mean you can do them along side doing the WvW JP then it still classed as pvp

I think he’s trying to be sarcastic (because apparently that makes you seem intelligent), mind you its the complaining-childish-style of sarcasm that can best be imagined by a little child waving his hands in the air and screaming rather loudly. No what he’s saying (rather poorly) is that thanks to the inclusion of jumping puzzles he can no longer achieve the monthly, since he can no longer achieve the monthly he will not even attempt to do so thus removing any need for him to attempt PvP or WvW. I think he’s also implying that he’s some sort of PvP and WvW god and that without him PvP and WvW cannot exists. Possibly. but then again I did mention that he’s clearly not the worlds best communicator.

Overall he’s just throwing a tantrum so ignore him.

I guess they could add more options but remember there will always be a optimal rotation at the end of the day. It’s what happened in WoW, sure you’ve got a lot of abilities but you’re only using 4-5 of them because they are the optimal. Simply adding more abilities, options and customisation might simply be an futile effort as most of it will go unused the moment someone crunches the numbers.

Petition for Aesthetic Content (Quaggan)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

CureForLiving.5360

I fully agree with OP, cutesy armour would add some nice variety to the overall aesthetic and could easily be implemented within lore. However there is something I disagree with and that is the usage of the word petition.
Firstly I don’t think you actually know what a petition is, and secondly you’re doing more harm to your case by throwing the word petition around. It like if I tell command you to do something, firstly I have no authority to command anything of you and secondly you’d probably just get angry since I’d come off as very arrogant and bossy. Now thing about the developers, do you thing they’d respond nicely to someone who tried to command them to do something by using the word petition? No, no they won’t, they probably won’t even click past the link.

Not really my character, at all?

in Personal Story

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

I have to agree, my Charr Necro (in my mind on the creation screen) was suppose to be a fairly ruthless, hardened Charr soldier making his way through the world by force and ferocity. The personal story didn’t really fit with that image I had on the creation screen. My human mage from a noble background was suppose to be a naive young girl who for the first times goes adventuring in the big wide world, but the personal story didn’t really match that image either.

Now I don’t really blame ANet or feel that they did a completely horrible job, after all they implemented this system with I’m sure a lot of good intent. But in the future however (when they hopefully add more to these personal stories) I hope they keep in mind that the image that players have in their minds doesn’t always match the story they write. Perhaps if they added a few dialogue options to allows us to interject a bit more of the image we had in our minds into the plot they wrote that could work, perhaps our characters can play a less prominent role and thus experience the plot without having to be too active in it and thus be more of a blank slate, or perhaps ANet can come up with some other wonderful solution. Either way I do hope that ANet tries to improve on what they’ve already done.

Universal Block

in Suggestions

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

I don’t have a problem with a block mechanic.
It could be implemented as an alternative to dodge to give the players more freedom and options. They can both drain from your stamina so that would be fine I guess.
In some situation dodging and blocking can both be a solution, while in AOE-style problems blocking isn’t going to be very useful (i.e. blocking doesn’t make sense when you’re standing in the fire). Still it gives you options and options are good.
Possibly dodge can be a full damage evasion while block can simple reduce the damage (by some percentage) as you’d probably be able to block a lot longer than you could dodge.

But at present I still feel as if something is wrong with the dodge mechanic (can’t really but my finger on it other than to say it feels rather broken). I’d rather like them to fix that first though (if there’s a problem and it’s not all in my head).

Hoping for new stuff! :)

I guess I’m a bit old school but in my mind new professions is more something you see in an official expansion, not so much in the monthly content patches. Of course I might be wrong and ANet might surprise me, but I like to think that I go through life more often right than wrong (it’s better on my self-esteem that way). There have however been rumours of ANet releasing an expansion within this year, so maybe (if rumours can be believed that is).

As for new professions… I really have no idea since I’m not that heavily into the GW2 lore and never played GW1.

Lately I’ve noticed myself not liking Cursed Shore all that much, but I think it’s just now that the overall number of people in those areas have gone down I find myself being swarmed more often by mobs. But once you make it though cursed shores the other areas aren’t as bad, I think it’s because of the nature of Cursed Shore, you know the feeling of having to break through the enemy lines. The problem of course is that this isn’t as easy anymore with fewer people and once you’ve captured an area/point it’s not very easy to defend. But overall I don’t feel as if these areas are that inherently bad. Just stay away from the underwater combat and don’t try to run through mobs.

Waypoint costs are insane 70-80.

:’D so funny

If memory servers it costs about 2 silver or so to TP over a rather large area, in level 80 zones you make just below 2 silver for doing a dynamic events. So actually I have to agree (albeit in a more eloquent narrative fashion) that the costs of TP can easily be off set by doing a couple of dynamic events, actually even low level starting areas give you 60 copper for an events so 2 / 3 events and you can pretty much TP across a large stretch of the map. Not to mention the Miist → LA shortcut which also spares you some time and effort.

A Quest System

in Suggestions

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

Well I’d personally want ANet to focus more on having more dynamic events and having those dynamic events have more of a impact on the world itself (ideally for more than just a few minutes until the next dynamic event starts).
But I guess they could implement a system like this, it would (if done correctly) be a bit more dynamic then the current dynamic system.

So what else to do in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

I started my war went trough quests etc reached 80 very fast and now i tought myself what to do.

Since GW2 has level scaling rushing to 80 isn’t really a problem or much of a concern, you can still enjoy much of the low level content.

Dungeon:Hard next to imposible need vgood teamwork so i managed to do a couple just to find out rewards are useless.

Well GW2 isn’t really a gear grind (well much of one) in any case so the rewards are going to be disappointing if you come from a more conventional MMO background. What you can perhaps do is start looking for a slightly more serious guild to join, hopefully they’d be able to offer a few more worth while team members to help you out;

Dragons:as far as i know they spawn random in my 3 week play i havent seen any message or foudn any, so i have no idea where they are or if its even worth farming them.

Actually they spawn at fairly regular interval, in fact I’ve got a app on my phone that tracks their spawn times (although I’ve only used it a few times but it seems accurate enough). As for where they are: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tequatl, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Claw_of_Jormag, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Shatterer.
But addressing the second part, no they are not worth grinding, this doesn’t mean they’re not fun and you should go do them, rather do them with the mindset of doing for funs sake and not for pretty loot.

Gear: pretty useless, this game is all about teamwork, its not a run for best gear game, best gear that has 5-10 more to stats than my current one(berserker draconic something) would be just as useless for pve/pvp/dungeon whatever.

Well yes, that was actually done by design, the idea was (originally, but that’s a bit debatable right now) to not have player get stuck on the gear treadmill, by offering items which provide an aesthetic difference and not much of a stat difference. Further the idea is in fact to focus on teamwork and skill of the player. For example in PVP simply having the best gear won’t automatically mean a win, and that’s a good thing.

Craft: exepensive and useless since gear doesnt really matter read above.
Farming: pointless i dont need the best gear read above.

Actually you get pretty nice gear from crafting, although if (like you) someone is heavily focused on the number then yes it would seem meaningless. However I found crafting to be a rather fun challenge and something to do for the sake of doing it.

Legendary weapon: useles??? other than looks my current wep that GS claymore is better cause of crit dmg vs useless for warr cond dmg.Expensive and useless doh.

Here again with have the issue of your focus on number. Legendaries aren’t suppose to be massively OP compared to all other gear, they’re hard to get and offer clear visible difference. Having a legendary is the reward.

Karma? useless again exotic gear for karma is pretty useless for warr already have 2 parts other than looks they are trash.

Well different areas do have different karma vendors and besides karma items are simply there to provide you with a few crafting mats and some intermediary items. Actually they also provide a couple of interesting skins, but you don’t seem like the type of person that would be interested in that.

So think of me as a newbie maybe theres something i didnt discover or that idont know yet about the game that makes it more fun.

Well you’re expectation of GW2 seems to be that it would be WoW2, but it’s not. So you’re expecting an experience which it can’t really give you. The best bet would perhaps be to focus more on experiencing and enjoying the game itself. Perhaps a mindshift is in order? However people in general don’t have much talent in changing how they think, so most likely GW2 isn’t going to give you what you want.

Still that doesn’t mean you should stop playing. Hopefully ANet will still regularly release content and you can still come back every now and then and play for a while until you get bored and then go play something else for a while until you feel like GW2 again or ANet releases more content. That’s the thing about B2P you’re not locked in with a monthly subscription. you don’t have to get your moneys worth since you’re not necessarily paying (beyond the initial box price) and you can always come back without hassle.

Guild reworking, plea of a large guild leader

It’s useful for guild leader, and guild leader only. Show it to members, and it starts causing problems. (“Omg, there is a guy who hasn’t logged on for 15 days! Ban him! Ban him with fire!” and “Omg, you didn’t ban him? This guild is SO inactive because we got 1 out of 50 members who hasn’t logged in for 15 days!”) Seriously, some people staring at that column can be quite… Non-gifted when it comes to intelligence.

In my old WoW guild we pretty much had to bad people who hadn’t logged in for more than a month without given notice on the forums since the guild was constantly hovering around max number of people. It’s a useful function and it never caused any problems like this. Of course it was a mostly mature guild so I guess it might be a very different for other guilds. Either way the sort of guild member that would throw a tantrum like that is also the sort of guild member you’d want to kick, so it all works out :P

Breeding rates of GW2 species?

CureForLiving.5360

One thing I’m wondering, how long do humans live in Tyria? Because apparently a lot is measured relative to humans.
Seeing as how humans of Tyria aren’t particularly technologically advanced and by extension their medical knowledge is probably limited. Granted they might borrow the expertise of the other races but I don’t think a human would survive even the most routine Charr medical treatment…

If wikipedia is trustworthy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_expectancy) then I don’t image humans would live much past 60 (which would be their maximum not their average) so that means Asura reach only about 70 and Char probably around 50. Of course most of these relative measures were based on what developers said and they were probably speaking of modern day human life expectancy (which unless you’re white and in a first world country like Canada or Australia is still horrible).

Of course tyrian humans do have magic, but it’s not day to day, “can’t walk down a corridor without bumping into magic” ala Hogwards style of magic so I’m not sure to what extent magic is used for medical purposes or if the common man on the street has access to these sort of services.

Whatever happened to server transfers costing gems to stop bandwagoning?

Used to be every day, then it was changed to every week. Only reason we still have free transfers is cause they haven’t implemented Guesting yet. A feature that was supposed to be in at launch…

I though it was because they were afraid of server imbalances and that new player might make the wrong choice of server and be stuck there. I don’t think guesting is such a massive technical challenge that it would take month and months to implement, but I will admit it has been going on suspiciously long.

Lost motivation to play...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

Although I share your feelings, I would point out that there’s already a lot of threads about this subject.

The more threads the better, maybe something will be done.

I don’t know, having a lot of threads feel so separate and disjointed. I’ve said this in a previous post but if you want impact you need a unified front, a single thread spanning pages is a lot more impactful then several smaller threads. Combining and unifying the discussion into a single stream also makes it easier for people reading (preferably ANet staff) to get a simple grasp of what’s going on, as opposed to having to read several smaller threads and piece them all together to get the big picture.
Think of it like a protest, the more people you get in a protest the more attention and impact. If you have several smaller protest spread out over a geographic area or over a period of time then each individual protest can more easily be ignored or overlooked and thus overall it becomes less impactful.

Why do most of you prefer to play alone?

I prefer an ad hoc approach to grouping, if I see someone doing something I help, stick around a bit and if nothing else happens I go my separate way. Probably my lone wolf personality. I do particularly hate people but I prefer running across people, indirectly interacting and going my own way to either meet new people or perhaps run into them again. The moment I’m in a group a lose a sense of freedom, the group goal becomes my own and I feel like I’m being dragged along.

Well in my case it’s the end of the year and several projects need to get done at work or else (although absent is or else what, but my boss has difficulty effectively motivating people)! So most days I get back home late, with only a hour or so to play and honestly I don’t feel as if I can do anything with only a hours works of play. I can barely do my daily. Of course once the years ends for me and I go on vacation I won’t be back either since I have to visit family and they don’t have internet. So I’m pretty much tied up until next year, with only small increments of time which I don’t see myself spending in GW2 since I don’t feel as if I can achieve something without a larger investment of time than I have at my disposal.

The Vocal Minority

CureForLiving.5360

This is a very important point because using that argument is actually nothing more than an ad hom attack.

Actually no, you’re mixing up your fallacies, technically it’s argumentum ad populum. Ad hom would be saying you’re stupid and thus your argument is wrong. An appeal to the majority is when you argue that 1 million people can’t be wrong, or that the minority must be wrong because they do not agree with the majority. Although I guess you could twist argumentum ad verecundiam in order to support the opinions of the minority while negating the opinions of the majority.

But point taken none-the-less.

Not quite, they may be unruly, but they are under the control of the Necromancer, they’re not just reanimated to mindlessly bash everything in sight. That would defeat the purpose of an army of the undead.

agree to disagree?

No. My Golem’s poor ai has led to several deaths and near death situations solely because someone decided that a button that makes my Golem not run suicidally into elite mobs that can two-shot me to death is inconvenient.

Faith? Yeah still got some of that. Do I like some of the recent changes? No. Will I still continue complaining? Yes. If I don’t then how will ANet know (although I guess it can come off as me not liking the game, but that’s not the case).

I do however feel that some of the transparency, some of the active engagement with the community has gone (looking at the Dev Tracker here you get a pretty standard response feel). I still believe ANet can turn it around and it won’t be all that difficult, just provide us some candid responses, some detailed discussion about some of the reasoning behind some of their decisions of late (which post launch has been massively lacking, and no telling us you’re implementing fractals is not equivalent to some of the more interesting design posts they had on the blog pre-launch where they detailed the logic and thought process).

The customer is always right. A very well known and common phrase, helps us understand what is going on here.

ArenaNet isn’t our parents that ‘know what is best for us’. We are grown men and women that know what our favorite foods are, work 40+ hour weeks, and pick out and put on our clothes every morning.

Actually the sad thing is a lot of players was asking for progression, for tiers and gear-treadmills. ArenaNet did exactly what you’re claiming they’re not doing and listened to those people. I don’t like it mind you and in part agree with you, but I have to point out that you’re making a rather large mistake here in considering your opinion to reflect the entire playerbase.

Another interesting thread (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Day-Night-Cycle/first) discussed this same topic and the possibility of making night more distinctly nocturnal. I agree with synchronizing the cycles, but I do feel that a lot more can be done ontop of it.
