The OP suggestion doesnt make sense, same with some posters here.
Make revealed state longer and call it a day. Force thieves to adjust to the higher skill floor.Why exactly it doesn’t make sense? Please give at least some reasons for your opinion instead of just saying this.
Imo increasing revealed state even with 1 sec would have a much greater impact, and it would affect every thief regardless of their skill lvl. The idea behind this topic was to penalize the backstab spammers and make well timed blocks/invuls a bit more rewarding, not to give a flat nerf to stealth.
YOU still didn’t give ANY good reasons why thief should be penalized on first place… they are already penalized by lowest survivability in game and fact that they HAVE to build almost full glass to do any kind of dmg…
playing thief is very unforgiving, if you don’t believe me, go roll a thief and play vs high ranked team; unless you possses amazing skills like Caed, Jumper and co. you won’t do jack against those teams or anyone with brain or cheese build

Yes, movement and invulnerability are big problem there. Some classes get huge advantage there and some are pretty much screwed. As thief for example, i can’t use any of my teleports, i run really slow with orb, i can’t stealth either (which is thieves primary defensive mechancs) leaving my character pretty much naked on the field w/o much chance to fight back.
Warrior on other hand can go invul, zoom across the map with sword etc.
Travel form was bad in WG or in Guilneas, hence why blizz nerfed that. As worgen feral you could capture flags and grab point before anyone could, and you couldn’t even catch up to them on mount. That was terrible mechanics. When i did RBGs as rogue i had to sit in our flag room and make sure to 100-0 feral before he can leave the flag room. That was just messed up that i had to run a build specifically for it.

Well, people doing pvp can get pretty competitive so someone going to rage like this can happen, especially when you are not best player on team. The truth is though, we all sucked at some point and knew little about game.
Looking at your message, it looks like you were doing hot joins so in fact you didn’t actually ruin any MMR or anything for anyone. Thank you for not doing ranked and learning through HJ. Just keep fighting, learn how to play, get experience etc. If people talk crap to you, just ignore them or report if you feel like it.
I am relavtive new to this game pvp as well, there were quite few people who laughed at me and talked kitten to me when i just started, yes it was furstrating but i keep trying to improve my skills and get more experience.
Recently i faced the guy, who was one of those kitten talkers, in ranked match and funny enough this time i was the one who kept killing him heheeeehheeee. REVENGE TASTES GOOD!
Oh lastly, try to look up some pvp builds, watch streams from good thief players like Caed for example. It can make up a little bit for the lack of experience. Also rolling other classes and playing them in pvp also helps to counter them later.
P.S. OP you picked probably one of the least noob friendly classes too D8, good luck!

Ever since I got out of elo hell (I lost 9 matches in a row from afk/dc’s 2nd day solo q came out) solo q has been great, my queues are never longer than 3 min and the matches are always fun. I’ve only done 27 matches since the reset but im 22-5 atm so there arnt really any noobs anymore.

my team either decided to get spawn camped for w/e reason or keep running mid and die one by one…. oh and then i had skyhammer where every single person completely lagged out, nobody could even play properly but pets lol
i don’t mind soloq so much, it is indeed frustrating when you get bad teams or when you yourself mess up due to lack of communication etc.
i do hate skyhammer, i play thief so i can pull ppl and steal-> fear off edges but franky i don’t enjoy those games, spending 90% of the time trying to make someone fall down is hardly fun :/
skyhammer should be activity event like crab toss but not pvp map
as far as class balance goes, it is hardly any better in team pvp, cheese everywhere heh… gw2 balance isn’t even that bad actually but some things really need to go

Thief get’s CCd (immob, basi venom etc.) -> uses steal while being CCd -> get’s stuck in place unable to move or use any weapon spells untill dead or teleported somehow. Dodge doesn’t work either. Fix please

lv 50 fractal dredge map is more fun than this crap
anet should just give every class army of pets so we can all roll asuras, sit afk at points and watch pokemon battles while entire map is covered in puddles of death

my take on it would be (random brainstorming, bear with me):
- give condi thieves burning (through trait for all i care)
- reduce CD on venoms
- change traits so they profit more from conditions… for example slowed pulse: gain X amount of heals for each stack of condition per tick
- revamp traps, make them like necro wells with team utility + condis

I think that classes should have some weaknesses that can be exploited, and if there is 5 of one class on a team it should be easy to switch and take advantage of. I don’t feel like hambow warriors have such a weakness.
ironically i don’t have much issues with warriors but i play d/p
the thing with warriors in general is that somehow they got changed so much that their original weakness doesn’t exist anymore
i think from all classes i played so far they also have the smallest trade off but it is up to devs how to balance classes heh

After patch it is actually possible to use fractal weapons in pvp as skin so i went and tried it out with one of the warhorns i had lying around. Yes, it works however there is no store room for it in pvp locker…

You realize that this is the sPvP forum don’t you? If anything the topic title should be why do you prefer sPvP over WvW/PvE.
He’s trying to compile the worthwhile feedback from the other major content areas of the game to try and get a comprehensive list that we can show the devs and say: “This is what your very own players want.”
The best advice I saw from those two threads is that we need something more straightforward as the default mode, analogous to GW1’s 4v4 team arenas. Something where it’s very easy for someone to go in, run into a few enemies, have a fight without being zerged down, and then if they’re the last person standing they get the chance to be the hero and can show off their skill in the final 1v1 and sometimes 1v2 situation.
Which makes me think, fine. Add a 3v3 or 4v4 quick arena mode that you can easily queue up for. It would also solve the problem of not having anything you can queue for with just 2-3 people easily.
Okay, but why is this thread in this section of the forum rather than in the WvW or PvE section. sPvPers look at this section of the forum because it is the sPvP section.
People who play sPvP, myself included, do not like many aspects of PvE/WvW which is why we play sPvP.

We already lose 1+ second for using a stealth based attack that fails to apply. Attack animation > aftercast > repositionning is what it’s called.
Well backstab activation time is 1/4 seconds, aftercast around the same and there isn’t much repositioning happening if the thief is autoattacking with backstab and besides you can move during the attack/aftercast, even with the lowest possible stealth duration of 3 seconds which is basicly spammable it’s possible to backstab 3 times.
If this change is made after losing 0,5s to an aegis for example, you will still have at least 2 tries to backstab. If you spam backstab on a 3s invulnerability though you will get revealed before the invulnerability ends which to me seems reasonable.
did you ever try to fight vs high ranked team as a thief? this all works fine and good as long as target stands still and doesn’t use any spells, CCs etc.

Anyways the thread isn’t pve related it’s pvp related. pvp does’t include wvw because you still have food an oils in there as well as exclusive runes/sigils. When you can put on food that grants 50% endurance regen I can’t say your point is a valid argument.
my point still stays, why play condi thief when i can play necro or engi and have better survival for comparable if not higher dmg… and more sustain at it

the problem is not thief conditions themself, the problem is how thieves survive… conditions take time and thieves don’t have it usually

Can a guardian tank a boss? Yes by taking and recovering damage as well as blocking.
Can a thief tank a boss? Yes, by evasion and blind.
Do they achieve the same goal? Yes but by different means.
Now put thief in your equation and tell me what you see. That’s the problem I have.

If they have feline grace + d/x they can evade all the time on bosses. They hit rather slow and are easily spotted.

i don’t dislike rangers… only people i ever kicked from dungeon were:
- thief who refused to use daggerstorm on fractal shaman fight but chose to use basilisk venom with argumen" it is not my playstyle"
- warrior who didn’t communicate at all and ran around in circles in cof p1 so we could never open the door untill we kicked him
- another warrior, same issue: 0 communication screwing up the party
- mesmer who kept falling down on harpie map in fractals even though we went and killed all those harpies… we just couldn’t progress so ya~
- guardian who had 0 AR but joined lv 49 fractal run
that being said, i don’t mind any classes and run with w/e, the only requirement i have is 1 guard for lv 49 fractal

Tow line is the only skill that self-CCs the user for no apparent reason and does nothing good to the enemy to compensate.
It pulls you towards the target, as a gapcloser underwater. Thats what it does to your enemy, closes the gap towards him.
Its also not the only ability that CCs the user.
shadow shot also pulls character to target, but it doesn’t stun the caster…also tow line already has relative high costs for spell that does almost no dmg and only cripples
i don’t think thief is a class that can allow himself luxery of being stunned in melee range of the target, especially underwater where they have almost no utilities available

Pff.. just give every class the option to put a revealed debuff to target for like 10 sec (not just 4 like sic’em – it should be more ), or make the stealth as in every other game .. move speed significantly slowed while in stealth & stealth removed if getting hit / dealing damage
I don’t see other (more successful MMOs) having problem with that concept.
please tell me which MMOs are those because
- stealth mehanics in other games are different, in MMOs i have played stealth was in fact permanent
- moving slow in stealth was removed in any MMOs i have played, simply because it was unfair due to positional requirement of backstab-like spells and moblity from targets- in MMOs i have played stealth classes had way greater survivability and CC than thieves in this game, so outside of stealth they had other means to survive (including high passive evade rate, dmg immunities etc); thieves in this game might as well walk around naked since they can’t allow themself to get hit even if they build full bunker…more hard counters to stealth would just destroy the class and force people(who still would stick to class) to play perma evade build (which already got serverly nerfed).
Thieves are not suppose to stand still and take beating. Thief players are not NPC, they also should have chance to fight back and survive. Asking for ridicilous changes like this w/o any compensations just proves how little people, crying for nerf, know about the class so no wonder they want it nerfed.
I don’t see high rated players crying about stealth. They might complain about conditions, necros and what not but i have yet to see any of them complain about stealth.

@Daishi: the problem is that people want flat nerfs to stealth… the issue with stealth as said many times is that it is about only mechanic together with dodge that thieves have for survival; thief entire toughness tree is based around stealth…condi removal, dmg, regen, mobility to certain extend all tied to stealth… if you add flat nerfs to stealth w/o compensation you might as well delete the class
to make comparison just to make clear how silly the proposed change is: every time any class swings their weapon around and every time attack gets blocked, misses or doesn’t hit anything, the player should lose protection, invul, regen and toughness for each strike… does it sound ridicilous? yes it does, so does the proposed change
furthermore, let’s assume anet does nerf stealth and decides to add buffs to make up for it… the problem is, they would have to buff thief survival to warrior level then… at that point you might as well play warrior though
