my group was killing melee boss, while i was attacking ranged one (as p/p thief) to keep stacks down
the only real issue were fire attacks aoe attacks from ranged boss, for some reason they kept hitting you even if you were outside of red circles

This is a tad overdramatic. My glass cannon ranger, not exactly know for being able to tank, can change utilities for 12 seconds of invulnerability. I could even take a pig for 15 seconds. Stealth on a Longbow for 3 seconds, and I haven’t even used a heal yet. Equip a greatsword for an evade every 3 attacks after that. And so on and so forth.
Every class has a way of surviving long enough to stand on the buttons, or if it’s just totally impossible for you, you can distract the enemies attacking your friend on the button.
my class survival is based on… blinds… except dredge are immune to blinds lol

Just finished molten alliance end bosses. First off: it was only lv 30 but kitten dmg is hella high. I was basically getting 1 shot if i got hit once. I am guessing lv 50 gonna be major pita.
My question is however: one of the bosses kept shooting fire, which was marked with red cirlces on the floor, however if you stand somewhere nearbly or try to walk out of it you still get hit by it. You virtually have to use dodge or port not to get hit, standing outside of it doesn’t help. My guess is that effective area is actually bigger than circles.
Anyone had similar issue?
P.S. Cliffside still gives almost no loot lol
P.S.S. Story mode was really confusing about what to do + not being able to rez + falling outside of textures etc.
P.S.S.S. On bright side, will never have to do harpies again.. LOL

I belong to a thief guild, 80%-90% of wvw commanders play thief class, i always embrace having a thief at my side, and in my party, and they all welcome me with open arms.

Oh I see the argument, but it seems to me that it applies to a lot of things. I mean, you can also blow a long-cooldown elite on a block or CC effect.
If you watch Yishis’s narrated videos, he watches for and compensates for these things to ensure his CnD is used to good effect. It’s an inherent part of the player skill involved in this type of build. I wish I could do it myself, but I can’t, and I see it as something to work towards.
Yishi is a good player but in most of his videos his opponents.. are wvw noobs. It wouldn’t work so well in tpvp.
I agree that class shouldn’t get dumbed down more, i like the challenge thieves bring however it would be nice to see d/d in pvp however the way CnD is atm it won’t happen for the reasons i stated before.

Even though I think thieves are in general underpowered given the difficulty involved in playing them, and I’m not very good at them myself, it seems to me that CnD is sufficiently powerful in the right hands that buffing it would be unwarranted.
Well the problem with CnD, while it does do some dmg and provides stealth it is highly unreliable. If you miss it, you end up with 6 ini less, which is a lot actually. CnD also doesn’t garantee backstab (which is main dmg, if you actually run that build). Why CnD unreliable? Blinds, fears, stuns, immobs, chills, blocks, dodges, pet body blocking, very predictable etc.
I didn’t see a single d/d thief since i started to play this game.

CnD is pretty unreliable and pretty costy hence why d/d is barely ever used in pvp.
Suggestion: if CnD fails,
- return half of the costs
or
- return all costs but put CnD on short CD
basically kind of like warrior spells work.
Maybe also reduce CnD dmg but if the attack hits it provides a buff (for example aegis or stability or small heal or 1 condi removed etc.) for 1 sec.

so i ask all thieves in sheer honesty, what are you plans? try to find some adaptation? make another class? quit the game entirely?
I also play an elementalist, just recently got her to 80 only to find out they were planning on nerfing that class too but according to the elementalist forums those nerfs are now no longer happening yet every nerf to the thief has gone through as planned, every time. As you can see from my signature, i play pistol dagger but i take this as an attack on my class. Im sure thief condition builds will be taken into account and declared too strong at some point, thus they will also be nerfed.
i will keep playing mine, as d/p

Had fun run today, no idea how it even makes any sense:
->opened CoF p2
->soloed lava part (since i am a thief)
->at the door where you need to kill assassins, my entire team kept dying except for me
->got agro from boss on last fight, warrior said he wants agro so i went invis to drop it
->they called me stupid, kittened and what not and that i die all the time (what? i died only 1 time in entire dungeon)
-> they kicked me from dungeon on last boss, but since i opened it they all got kicked too…
being accused of something i haven’t done, being called names and kicked, i love pugs

Now…. About skills…. No skill in the game could have more dmg than a backstab….
Thief is actually on the lower-end of the burst spectrum.
Well Jumper… Yes thats an fact for SPVP But soon as you think WvWvW It becomes competly diffrent a 0 30 30 10 0 spec can do Cloak->backstab->HS burst if he got bloodlust and guardkiller. and his foe is downed :P so they actually got very high burst for wvwvw together with quite good survablity. But yes for spvp they are very low on almost everything. XD
You probably think CND BS HS is really high dps right? its actually really low. what it IS though…..is high Dmg per hit but NOT high DPS.
Ok so lets look at why ok?
CnD- roughly 50% success rate
BS – Roughly 50% success rate
HS- roughly 60% success ratebetween blinds – blocks – aegis – invuln – NPC mobs – dodges – etc etc these skills miss as much as they hit, even for experienced players i wouldnt give them much more that +10% average (yes there are some fights that are higher but OVERALL its bout here)
Now lets look at other factors that mitigate our DPS. or burst is ALL withing 130 range which means we need to be kitten ed close to lay it out. Not only that its all .5 second or more activation times plus another .5 to recast so about 1 second MINIMUM between hits at best scenario….. very much unlike whirl attack or 100 blades etc.
What else to mention….oh yeah the obvious…. STEALTH! all that time in stealth wandering around for positioning and setting up for that all too famous backstab. then theres the times we enter stealth and dont get the right positioning and have to reenter stealth to try again.
See….thething is…for thief to get good DPS or even good survivability….it has to be connected to “circumstantial” requisites and factors. Yes other classes have some too but none as specific as ours and also as double edged (taking damage in stealth but dealing 0 back). our overall DPS is very low compared to most classes. and our burst is too….too much prereq for it to be solid burst.
These precents are competly wrong and out of the blue you wont see it comin before you’re dead ever heard of precast + steal? 50 % 40 % 60 &%? id rather say somthing like 95 % by a good player. And when it comes for substained dps AA fills that gap and makes D/D highest single target wep in the game.
btw STEAL, and that our damage is wrong is completly lack of knowledge dude we got HIGEHST single target damage in the game when buffed and we got very quick attacks in our burst so makes for good burst in wvwvw. around 1 second burst
the problem is you assume that that good player is fighting noobs, where good players in fact can completely shut down good thief… so i do think 50% isn’t far off from the truth
also, as for dmg, warriors would like to talk to you
yes their high dmging abilities might be good telegraphed, but if they wasted it they still get to keep resources + CD is very low while for a thief if CnD for example missed, you lost 6 ini…. no gain back, nothing
eles are another example, they can burst someone down way faster than thieves actually
if there would be way to make a chart with correlation of high risk and dmg, thieves would be really low on that chart due to way too high risk for decent dmg
Why don’t you just play some other class then? Thief is a thief and relies on stealth, deal with it or roll a fotm class.

yes thief relies heavily on stealth and it is actually a bad thing, if stealth fails it is pretty much GG, where other classes still have multiple choices; if anet keeps nerfing stealth or any survivability thieves have, eventually thieves would have nothing to rely on

You’re in stealth, this means that the minions have de-aggro’d from you, and are returning to me. Even if you’re using your immense skill as a thief to come in from stealth when I can’t see you at all and backstab, minions don’t stand on top of me.
Or, all you need to do is attack me once, to aggro them, as they run away from me towards you, you stealth to me, and boom all of my minions are still 900 units away, and you don’t have to worry about landing such a difficult skill shot.

you assume that thief can instantly teleport to target back at any given time
in reality thief is mostlikely chilled, snared, poisoned etc. by mark spam and any half decent necro either stands or runs around own pet so pet soaks all dmg

Don’t speak to others about skill! Apparently they don’t understand it if they assume anything that beats them takes no skill to play. They haven’t had time to practice and become good with all the QQing effort they’ve put forth. :P
