It’d be cool if they did but I can tell you right now that any more GW1 skin conversions will be another RNG box gem store gambler’s delight, at least as far as weapon skins go. I’d like to see Oppressor weapon skins and more armor skins from GW1 make it to GW2. Except for Obsidian that armor is ugly af. I always laugh when playing GW1 when I see someone running around in town with this variant of it: http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/d/d9/Warrior_Obsidian_armor_m.jpg
LOL
In tests run before the game was released, Anet had to add hearts, because people were running by events, because there was no text telling them what to do. One dev was watching a player run by a burning house and he asked the player why the player didn’t go inside to check it out, and the player said because I didn’t have a quest for it.
This is the funniest thing I have read tonight. Just picturing this in my head is making me LOL so hard. I had no idea this happened as I didn’t come around until Beta Weekend 3 I think it was and I didn’t get a chance to venture out too far even in the starting zones.
I’ll probably get hate for this but I despise those Renown Hearts so much. I hope in another feature patch they get removed and replaced with more events, and for the hearts that already have events start in their vicinity, they start more frequently and the NPC that’s related to the event can sell armor/weapon (or basically skins if you outlevel the gear) for karma or coin when the event finishes successfully. It would make exploration on alts a lot more fun for me at least. It’s why I’ve been enjoying the two new zones a lot too from the LS. I just kinda make my way there with my alts and have a blast re-exploring them while doing any of the events I want when they pop up as I chart the place.
Sometimes I think there are more people playing games as a checklist than there are just experiencing the world.
Exactly right, it’s what I kinda of dislike about the hearts. I know they give you a plethora of ways to fill them but it still feels against my own play style. The vistas and PoIs I don’t mind since I would eventually tread over or near them at some point and take in the awesome views. Hell, I still watch every vista cutscene I activate on my alts to its conclusion just ’cause I like them so much.
For the most part, the new daily system I have been enjoying so far (even the double fractal one), especially when compared to how repetitive the Wintersday dailies are, ‘cause even though they are a check list of sorts, they direct me to some zones I haven’t really been in for a long time.
Ahaha, I figured there’d be more complaints after today’s dailies. I rolled swamp, molten facility, thaumanova and jade maw tonight; pretty solid run with just a couple wipes in the radiation room, lol.
I have a couple Crystalline Blades (or swords; too lazy to look up the proper name) sitting in my bank since the MF change that are account bound and still waiting for me to choose a stat set for them. I’m saving them for when I eventually get my mesmer alt to level 80.
I also recall the exotic Mad King’s foot armor that dropped in the first Halloween event’s JP had some MF that prompted me to change stats on them as well.
I agree, OP. When playing GW2 I’m really wanting some new skills, especially new weapon skills. I started GW1 a little after I had pre-ordered and played through 30 levels on my guardian in GW2 back in 2012, and mainly started because I wanted the HoM skins very much and also because GW2 seemed to reference a lot of events that happen in GW1 when you take the time to stop and read NPC dialogue within each zone.
Started with Prophecies and got really immersed in its story and the combat really shined. I was blown away at simply having henchmen with me after first entering post-searing Ascalon. When I cleared Prophecies and Factions and got to Nightfall, I started using heroes which just upped the enjoyment factor ten-fold for me. It really made me regret not trying the game out sooner; gameplay reminded of KOTOR 1 and 2. Then there was the plethora of new skills to purchase and try out almost every new outpost.
As GW2 has passed its 2nd birthday already I find myself playing GW1 more often. Even with a third party site dedicated to “meta” builds, some professions have multiple builds to chose from and multiple versions for a team of heroes if you prefer to play solo like I do. Or sometimes these “meta” builds aren’t the best choice for certain parts of the game and challenge you to maybe tweak or break them as the OP stated.
I’d be thrilled if GW2 expanded on the existing skill set for weapons or even just utilities that aren’t just a couple of situational healing skills.
Or they could just be waiting until the ten year anniversary of the franchise.
This would be cool.
Whats your thoughts?
My thoughts are that I’m utterly tired from this beaten to death topic, with identical threads popping every 3 days.
If expansion comes, it comes when it comes.
Not a lot of people have the attention span to read through dozens of pages and with the search borked you’ll keep seeing different players creating new threads on the same subjects, even if a similar one sits on the first page. I suggest maybe not spending so much time on the forums if this subject’s reoccurrence bothers you so much.
I’ve seen this happen while following commanders in EOTM when you used to be able to get your dailies done quick in the trains running there before the new daily changes. There was this necro commander who would use that teleport trick in little bursts every 2 or 3 seconds while in scorp form thinking no one would notice, but he kept getting called out on it and multiple people reported him. Like a week later when I wanted to get my dailies done quick he was on my side for the week once more leading a karma train and at it again. I’m not talking about the scorp skill that lets you “burrow” teleport with a long cooldown but actual teleporting that behaved exactly as shown in the OP’s video.
Wow, surprised how much hate this change is getting. This is one of the better changes they have done IMO. I cleared the 3 PVE dailies so fast for an easy 10 AP and get a little extra rewards on the side; not really seeing the negatives here.
I really appreciate the vista and boss ones though it’d be nice if there were an in-game schedule reference for world bosses because sometimes I forget what times they show up, as I don’t do them often enough.
They get too much money from these RNG schemes. You really think they are going to change anything? LOL!
Gamblers fund this game more than anything else or this would have all died back in 2012 when the first RNG chest uproar happened.
This shouldn’t be a gem store item, IMO, but yes it’d be nice to be able to replay the PS. I’m not sure how it would work though what with the character creation choices that affect the PS and whatnot, unless they leave that as unchangeable but still allowing you to restart. Also wondering if they’d let you start in the beginning instance when you first create a character as it’s part of the PS. Maybe that’s what they are working on when they said it’d take “a lot of resources” to fix the stuff that the restructured PS from the last feature patch broke.
Would be cool if they make some new “hard mode” achievements like with the story journal and rolled this out along with the season 1 LS story journal. At least I wish they’d do this.
Same thing happened to me. First time I did the JP was 2 days ago and I didn’t get that message after all 9 milestones, then earlier (after the lateat patch) I redid the JP on another character and even though I got all 9 milestones it gave me that message.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Suggestion-player-camera-improvements/first
there’s a developer in this thread discussing ways to improve the in-game camera
yeah, it took me about 2 hours to complete. i was heavily immersed and it was funny seeing other players take a wrong skritt tunnel and start back at the bottom of the last part. i REALLY enjoyed the parts where it takes you outside the bases and can view the airships and general scenery a lot better.
The only benefit to those participating is this will just create a bunch of star-bellied Sneetches. Guess how those reports are going to read when a star-bellied Sneetche sees a popular suggestion they don’t agree with? Oh, wait what suggestion? LOL
Extremely short sighted.
couldn’t agree more.
This is really cool. Thanks for linking this.
They did it in a really bad attempt to cater to some suggestions in one of those CDI threads were players mentioned that it’d be cool to gain new skills by “capturing” them from a boss in the world, similar to how elite skills were done in GW1.
For some reason, they thought it’d be a good idea to just do this to existing traits instead, while using it as a way for another goldsink (because hey why not) for players who don’t wish to go exploring and killing whatever it is a trait needs doing to be unlocked.
This has been happening to a lot of players in the Dry Top map today, as well as some terrible in-game lag. It’s taking up to 20 seconds for a skill to activate.
Could it be that you’re experiencing a mild form of “Stockholm Syndrome”?
Heh, this is what I was thinking after reading the this thread.
I don’t believe I have ever entered the home instance on this character. I’ve ran past the location a few times where that prompt pops up asking if you want to enter, but never actually opened up the instance. I haven’t actually logged in on this character in I think 2 months, and it was just to quickly pick up some gold waiting for me at the trade post (my main character was in a far map and didn’t want to WP all the way back), and I remember last time it saying I had to meet Caithe in the Grove to “discuss my dream” or something at the top right of the screen. Then today when I wanted to actually start her PS it had moved up a step.
My Sylvari Ranger’s personal story ’Called to Service" moved up a step without me advancing it. As you can see in the attached screenshot, this character has never even been to The House of Caithe point of interest yet it showed that I met with her already in the first story step. I created this character over 2 years ago and never really used it much besides killing a bunch of fireflies and trolls for Maguuma Killer just outside the Grove, leveling cooking to 400, and spending a few skill point scrolls until now, when I was going to start her story and noticed this bug.
Oh wow I hope I am around when the inevitable third one springs out. I think I’ll camp around fort amber during daily reset time today to see if maybe that’s when they roll out the change.
Also to add they may have to make the ship float way lower in the air since each map has nothing beyond them over the mountain/cliff borders I think. I’d be okay with it though.
Yeah this would make a lot of sense. I was hoping they would do this when they first released the airship pass. First it would be where it’s currently floating over now, then when Lion’s Arch became its current hub again the ship too would move to LA. Then with where the current episode is they’d have it move to above Fort Vandal if not The Silverwastes.
Though of course there’s always the people who get mad when things change and don’t want it moving from it’s location. Perhaps they could just have more airships floating over said areas and you can just talk to an NPC on whichever airship and “attune” your pass to that particular ship maybe.
Not sure how they’d make it fair for the royal pass people though. Possibly just add more options to the asura gate, and that broken asura gate currently in Fort Vandal gets repaired and redirected to the Royal Terrace?
Lots of ways they could do this.
Got mine (Storm) from a random loot bag during the Escape from Lion’s Arch/Battle of Lion’s Arch (not sure which one it was). It was either a champion bag or from those bags you got from rescuing the citizens. My memory is really shot on the specifics of that event but I was happy to get it. Though later on since it was clear that precursor crafting/scavenging hunt was put on indefinite hold I decided to sell it on the TP and buy a precursor I really wanted most: The Hunter. Their prices were only a 75 gold difference at the time.
Happily rocking The Predator on my Charr warrior alt nowadays.
There’s nothing I would love more than a chance to redo lost shores, given that the crippling lag pretty much prevented me from experiencing it the first time around.
Yeah, me too. That weekend event I had an extremely awful experience with as I am sure others did too, though I was able to finish it solely because I was in a party and was able to switch back to the overflow I kept getting booted from by the game. That was the only time I had GW2 client crash on me repeatedly in one day and was the first time that dreaded high pitch whistling sound would start playing over the game’s audio. I read that some players still experience that sound whenever I read up on the audio sub-forum, but luckily I have only experienced it briefly only 1 more time since The Lost Shores.
All the glitches and over-taxed server issues aside, I bet that event would have been a real blast if Anet had been more prepared to run it and would definitely love to play a stable version of it, even if it were a more downscaled instanced version with just NPCs and 4 other players in the party.
I’m hoping that they will have S1 in the story journal next year since they seem to have a focus on new players now. It seems like it’d be the perfect time to get this out during this focus (like feature patch 3 maybe?) and hopefully before S3 starts but that seems like just a pipe dream of mine.
Because the game has a bad AI that cannot compensate for it. That’s why all the other mob hacks such as Unshakeable, leash regen, etc. exist as well.
Leash regen is in place so people can’t glitch/exploit the mobs for free kills. Lots of games have leashing and regen typically follows with it.
I’ve never heard anyone refer to them as ‘mob hacks’, though. Underlying hatred for the mechanics, I detect.
He’s right though. Those mechanics, especially one such as unshakeable, are very poorly thought out and a band-aid approach of what could otherwise be ‘fun-to-fight’ boss encounters.
I wish I could find the thread where a dev was stating his distaste for certain mechanics and would like it changed it to something that would keep players more alert throughout fights.
Something has been tickling the back of my mind since the April update, which became clear focus after the 9/9 update.
It is my contention that Anet has brought economic behaviorists on board, and has attempted to overlay the reward/punishment monetization/skinner-box system of F2P games on top of the existing infrastructure, and these current changes are a precursor to skills and traits being available on the gem store.
Before I get elbows deep, it’s only fair to mention that I studied this type of industrial psychology while pursuing my PhD in bioethics, ergo I may be seeing shadows in the cave, and assigning malice to actions that may just be incompetence. Also fair to point out that I’m on the board of a software publisher, (one that shares no market space with Anet), and we constantly get pitched by monetization “gurus” who talk about their methodologies, so I have more than a passing acquaintance with this type of game theory.
Monetization and Skinner-Boxing of games can range from things like Zynga’s CEO’s theory of “fun-pain”, which we don’t see much of in GW2, to premium currencies, which all MMOs have always had, to pay-to-win like Korean grinders, but the most powerful of all the skinner-box techniques is Reward Removal. (See Puzzle and Dragon as an example of a masterfully designed money extraction skinner box. )
Research has shown that humans like getting rewards, but they hate losing what they already have much more than they value getting the reward. The effect is more powerful the longer the person has had the reward.
Traits are an example of this playing out; Players who have had the game for long enough that they have leveled a character in the original system valued the trait system. Traits were a reward for playing the character. Therefore, when traits were “removed”, i.e., placed behind artificial barriers, players felt “robbed”, “cheated”, and as though “Anet hates it’s players”. (To borrow phrases I’ve seen lobbed about the forums.) Hiding the story quest until lvl 10 is another example, as is removing all the fun stuff to do in the starter zones.
To effectively monetize your playerbase with this technique, you have to tell the player they have earned something, and then later tell them that they did not. The longer you allow the player to have the reward before you take it away, the more powerful the effect becomes.
If, for example, traits went on sale in the gem store today, we all know that people would buy them. Sure, people would complain, and some people would quit the game, but the vast majority of people who are not going to do 65 different things to unlock their traits would just buy them, or ignore traits all the way around except for accidental unlocks.
Therefore, my premise is that the reason 400 response threads about traits have been completely ignored, while pushback on level gating skills resulted in changes, is that traits are going to be a monetized part of the game.
This is an interesting read. Frightening too, actually.
This tourney’s achievements are awesome and I hope this is the norm from now on.
Please fix this ArenaNet, and make personal stories replayable k thnx.
This is more a comment on the fan’s reactions. I don’t think anyone at PC gamer tested it. They certainly didn’t say they did.
Ofcourse they don’t say it u whiteknight.
When I read a review on a gamesite and I don’t see anything where they litteraly tell that they played the game, then man, I won’t take that review seriously!!!Dude, your white knighting is losing its touch.
He’s not a white knight. However, I can’t state my opinion of what he really is, since I’ll get an infraction again. Just bear in mind that he is able to actively defend the game for at least 8 hours a day (check his posting history) and does so on every thread, with a PR-esque demeanor.
Whoa.
Yeah, I used to support this game by basically buying the gem store miniatures, and the direct buy weapon skins, and some armor set skins, with real money spent on gems, and was actually going to buy Svanir and Chieftain minis but this last patch just really soured my mood in a lot of ways.
I can count only two instances since headstart where I actually used gold > gem conversion and it was just to even out the balance of remaining gems sitting in my wallet because it was at an odd number of gems that wasn’t even getting spent due to how pricing is on the things I wanted to buy.
Really hoping ArenaNet turns this around but it’s not looking likely.
It seems like to get one good thing we need to surrender twice or thrice more… It’s saddening…
Yeah, this is getting really frustrating. This update today really missed the mark.
Sounds too good to be true… guess we’ll find out soon enough.
Besides achievement points, what are the rewards? Is it a matching back skin for the weapons or something else?
I enjoyed the fight and thought it was way better than the buggy modrem boss outside Fort Salma in the last episode.
During the WvW spring tourney when I was doing the achievements in EOTM, in the center area of the map the zerg was clearing out some aetherblades, and then after they were all dead a hologram of Mai Trin popped in and I remember she said something like “I’m not just a captain here, I’m the governor.” then her hologram disappeared and I continued running with the zerg filling up those achievement points.
I always wondered if there was some type of extra stuff in that area during the EOTM LS release where Taimi and Braham were hanging out and you had to get parts for them or something, because I never actually went to the area where Mai popped up during the original EOTM release; closest I got to was underneath where the Scarlet Thumper thingies are.
I’m really glad that Anet is looking into what can be done about this. But throughout the past year+ of the Living Story there have been a large number of issues for which the question has been “why didn’t they consider this before implementing the Living Story and create a solution for it then”? And most of these questions seem very obvious.
But the issue isn’t that it wasn’t considered, the issue is that they considered it and there is currently nothing they can do about it. Even if they considered it before destroying Lion’s Arch, what choice do they have? Either freeze Tyria in time and never change any map ever if it’s part of the Personal Story, or the path they went down? Personally I support the path they went down. I really hate that Lion’s Arch is rubble when I do Personal Story instances there – it makes no sense and I think it would be awesome if Lion’s Arch as it was stayed preserved by instances. I am really disappointed to hear they currently can’t change it (I suspected it was the case because they hadn’t done so by now) but if there is a reasonable solution to the problem, I’m sure they will implement it. Until then we just have to deal with it.
They should have considered it BEFORE implementing the ENTIRE Living Story.
So because they don’t have a solution yet, they would have postphoned the whole living story? Then how could they even be able to intergrate new content? I think it’s quite understandable that the player base would collapse if there was no new content for more then a year.
You understand that the Living Story as a concept was started over a year ago, right? I’m saying that they should have had a solution to these issues before they started the entire Living Story concept.
I agree. You could tell how quickly they jumped the gun with how buggy The Lost Shores was the weekend it was out. Half the quest thingies leading up to Southsun didn’t work right. I believe that was also when they had a free trial going which really taxed the servers and the whole event was almost impossible to play; that was one of the few times where my client crashed as well.
I really wished they would have took their time to flesh out their systems more before starting the LS but here we are. I haven’t bothered playing the personal stories on my alts since completing it on my main character because of problem this thread is about, and luckily I finished it before they really started to blow up certain zones’ landscapes last year and ruining the immersion for me. I’m hoping they can get a solution on this around the time they (eventually) have LS season 1 ready to be played in the story journal, but I can tell that’s going to be a long, LONG time from now.
It’s the ‘Ruler of Shinies’ achievement under Regions > Dry Top. Gotta kill the Skritt queen during a tier 4 sandstorm.
Yeah, I started playing GW1 shortly after GW2 launched, and I found it odd that GW2 didn’t have this function of disabling the off-hand slot like the way shields and focus items would turn off in GW1 once you switched to a two-handed weapon. I’m hoping they implement this in there next feature patch, whenever that may be.
Also, I’d love to have an updated version of the equipment bag in GW1 that actually has a feature that will save the order of weapons you have stored in it, or at least prioritizes the weapons you use most frequently and those weapons will be in the top slots. The current bags we have don’t quite cut it for me.

Centaurs. I have a $100 to hand ArenaNet no questions asked for playable centaurs.
Most boots already work with digitigrade bodytypes (the Charr). If the pants have to just vanish to save the armor designers’ sanity, so be it. The existing hit box works. Their combat animations are largely in place already and they have a couple unique animations that can be used for racial skills. (And before anyone says it, horses are quite capable swimmers.) Racial unique cosmetic feature could be body-painting.
The centaurs are loosing their war against humanity and they are as threatened by the Elder Dragons as anyone. Lets see some tribes that want to put aside their spears and axes long enough to talk.
i’ve been playing thru gw1 (my first time; doing it mainly for hall of monument stuff for gw2) and i recently got the hero zhed shadowhoof. i made him full earth attributed like how the centaur casters are in gw2 and it made me really wanna play a centaur now lol.
Prediction: it’s account bound and exclusive
December 2014: spend 50$ on gems to get the exclusive Llama mini pet ! Spend 10 to get the exclusive green Llama backpack!
:)
ya this was what i was thinking when i clicked on this thread lol
GW2 releases Story Journals: Feedback/Questions [Merged]
in Living World
Posted by: Dark Jericho.8609
Thank you ArenaNet for implementing this. This will allow me to enjoy GW2 on a whole new level and at my own pace. I’m looking forward to season 2 of living story.
+1
I hope they do something like this in the future now that they seem to have a system going for living story that would be complimented well by adding this.
Got my chest after relog
Doesn’t matter. They are sending them out in a small portion.
I didn’t get mine either, just be patient and you will get it eventually.
Oh, it’s a roll out? Didn’t know this. Last WvW season I got it right when the reset happened. Thanks.
Didn’t get any chest but see my 9th place (lol) achievement in WvW section of achievements. Logged onto 3 different characters I used for WvW so far.
Last year I got all of the achievements leading up to defeating Liadri and getting the miniature. I was pretty poorly geared and didn’t have that much gold or time to get properly prepared for the remaining difficult ones, and when I read that the Queen’s Gauntlet would be returning, I decided to postpone any more attempts at the gambit + Meatless Murderer achievements.
But now that I am properly geared and have access to 3 level 80 chars (guardian, thief, and warrior) I was finally able to finish the job. Thanks Anet for bringing this back.
Been wanting this since forever. I just want something simple, like a pony tail where the band isn’t all extreme or extra accessories like flowers and all that crap that’s in a lot of the hair styles. Maybe some loose strands of hair kind of hanging on the side of the face.
I would love to have these on my soldier class human and norn female characters.
ya i still have like 280 or something in the bank
hoping we won’t need anymore tho.
It’ll be fun only if they change the design of the arena to make it so it’s not 100x more tedious than it needs to be when you die.
lol
rage quitting from dying again and again was the most fun I have had in years.
i didn’t mind the dying via taking too long to kill a boss and falling to my death, but dying prematurely and no one rezzing me on the scaffold thing just so they didn’t have to wait longer for their turn was annoying.
it was really bad pre-subject/ dead-shot duncan nerf or whatever there names were when everyone was farming mad gold from them
