Is people using bots to farm these bags a problem? Yes it is and I saw it – one guy with 8 bots.

I’m pretty certain you only saw what you wanted to see Jana. Just like Pope only see’s the “intended” design to be what he wants it to be. Anyone deviating from that is obviously doing it wrong and it must be removed, right? That is exactly what is toxic in game. Players telling other players what to do and how to do it. That’s probably what most troll’s in game tell themselves to justify their actions too.

You’re all quiet daft on the subject. This wasn’t player interactions, inflation, HoT release, or Halloween. It’s very simple, Maize was nerfed due to a loss of Gem sales. Anet sells Boosters for real life currency. Maize farming was the supply chain feeding everyone’s Candy Corn Gobblers. Meaning, our one time purchase negated any future sales of Gems for Boosters. That’s why the Candy Corn Gobbler has never reappeared in the Gem store. Especially when everyone wanted to run as many Boosters as possible to help with Mastery acquisition at HoT launch.

Maize was intended to be farmed long term all year round. It’s why the loot tables for ToT bags had some exceedingly rare items. You can tell they decided to removed ToT bags as a year round item by how they practically gave away those previously rare items in the new loot tables. Whomever came up with the original concept for the Candy Corn Gobbler and Maize farming made a lot of players happy. Whomever decided to remove it, well, they can enjoy a lump of coal in their stocking this year.

Lastly, I had more fun Maize Farming than HoT content. So one cannot say Maize changes were to encourage me to “have fun”. Ambients could have easily been moved outside of regular traffic patterns to reduce any possible “antagonistic” interactions. The Dev’s easily could have moved a cluster of Ambients to high level zones, even on the HoT maps to encourage players to go there. There are several nooks and passages on HoT maps that would have been perfect to place Ambients out of the way. Instead, the changes to Maize were, as I mentioned above, simply a removal for business reasons.

The “difficulty” with leveling a guild hall is greatly exaggerated.

Sure, it’s not “difficult”, we’re only pushing a button on a keyboard. That doesn’t mean the cost of upgrading a Guild Hall isn’t prohibitive. Nor, does it mean the cost of a Guild Hall and the Scribing that goes with it, isn’t sucking all joy out of ownership. If you were a PvE player and most of your time in game was spent circling a map gathering, then the Guild Hall probably doesn’t suck for you. If you are a TP flipper and had a good amount of wealth, then the cost isn’t too much for you either. Now if you were a WvW or PvP player, the cost of a Guild Hall is obnoxious. Completely sucking the life out of playing the game.

The cost of Guild Hall upgrading is imbalanced across the game modes. The per person cost of Guild Halls is imbalanced too. There should have been a sliding scale.

What could be neat for the portal is an “exit portal decoration” that we can place in the Guild Hall. Thus, anything neat we do like a JP people can portal to the top of etc.

My biggest gripe is that we have to get up to level 34! before we can do the simplest lighting. Level 34 before we can buy a freaking CANDLE! Come on Anet, WTF?

I’m, obviously, mainly referring to the study mentioned in the OP, as that is the topic of the thread; but, there have been many similar studies, including one mentioned in New Scientist, a few years ago, that found that “Trickle Down” economics doesn’t work.

In fact, good, stable economies are built on Trickle Up.

As poorer and lower middle incomed people have to spend a far larger proportion of their money, leading to it feeding back into the economy and strengthening it.

If you’re going to declare that something doesn’t work, it helps to properly define it.

Trickle Down is the proven theory that if the tax rate on the wealthy is too high, cutting the rate will result in an increase in investment and spending which results in an overall economic boost for the bottom.

It is not a cure all to economic woes and it only works when the environment is right (as in, the taxes are currently so high that investment and spending is pulled back).

It is also not a mutually exclusive theory with the so-called “Trickle Up” concept.

People who hate capitalism fall into one of two groups:
1. People who don’t understand economics, see something they don’t like being done by some individuals, and blame the entire system.
2. People who understand economics, know that capitalism is the best system we’ve ever created, but rail against it in order to draw in support from the people in group 1 so that they can engage in mass genocide or set themselves up as a dictator once the existing government is overthrown by the angry mob they’ve whipped up into a frenzy with their dangerous rhetoric.

So basically you are using dangerous rhetoric to scare people of dangerous rhetoric? Then stating Capitalism is the best and anyone who disagrees just doesn’t understand? Let me just sit here a moment and laugh at how juvenile an argument that is.

The “problem” of flippers can be easily solved by more flippers, right?

Players shouldn’t be subjugated to be 2nd or 3rd class Tyrian’s simply because they do not like trading. Long ago, Flipping should have been treated like any other form of farming in game. Now, I don’t mind farming at all. I just don’t like that all but this one form of farming has been removed.

The profession achievements don’t count towards the meta beyond the first 2 (or 3 for the part 2/3/4 sections). Unfortunately, this means you have to complete the 15 day timegated one to finish the meta (and open up some of the part 2 achievements).

Whoa whoa whoa… where the F does it say that? Oh Good God, just clicked to “open” the Path of the Ascension. I despise that they buried this info. The tool tip say’s “complete all 11 Path of Ascension 1 achievements.” So like it’s always been in game, I looked at and counted the achievements in the panel I’d like to do to get 11 done.

Dev’s you need to be WAY more specific and upfront with info. Also, is it me or is there absolutely no way to get part IV since the season is a few days short of the 60 day requirement?

Pretty much this! I highly doubt many are entering Ranked for dailies. Not while easy dailies can be had in hotjoin. That’s why those custom arena’s are a God send in keeping Ranked matches cleaner.

It forces you to play one of 3 or 4 specific classes and win with them, which is bad and has always been bad.

As I mentioned above, it’s not the dailies to blame. Now, those profession specific achievements for the season, those encourage players to bring in unfamiliar professions into a match.

I hope you guys realise how bad this is for Ranked.

It will force so many players to play classes that they aren’t familiar with at all causing matches to be absolutely awful.

ANet are actually unbelievable…

You mean like having to win 27 ranked matches for each of the 9 professions? So that’s 243 matches to win, mostly solo Q’ing with unfamiliar builds, to get all the achievements. Which ends up to be more like grinding out 500 matches or 10 matches per day for the season. AP hunters will certainly be doing this.

Back in the day warriors banner could rez a dead lord – so they have been a lot tougher back then.
We rallied in our keeps and fought endlessly and had fun.
Now another strategic element has been removed – oh well. I really can’t care anymore.

It’s not the right word. Most of the complaints are from the gates that inhibit players from doing. That’s not being lazy, that’s players being annoyed by artificially being held back.

….It’s called a Hero Point, that’s singular.

Adventures and for the most part the entire Mastery system is just another time gate. Nothing being done in game by the player is actually aiding us to learn a Mastery. We’re not Gliding to learn how to Glide. We’re not jumping on the mushrooms to learn how to jump higher. Nope, we’re gathering and killing mobs to learn how to glide, to learn new languages, etc. So I think it a valid complaint when one ask “Why do we have to do such things?”.

For Gold complaints, it’s the sum of several factors. One is the reduction of several forms of income players enjoyed. One of the sources of income was hit so hard it’s been virtually eliminated from the game. Combine that with the Dev’s removing what some of us had already earned (Guild buffs) and gating it behind a huge paywall. Now you start to paint a picture of why customers are angered over the games direction. Removing features one had already earned and placing them behind 7k+ gold paywall is enough to anger any sane person.

time gating is absolutely necessary to avoid certain folks from getting the new legendaries way too fast.

Care to explain the thought process behind how a “too fast” even exist? It’s an account bound item and has no need or requirement for time gating. What Anet is basically telling someone to do is to walk around while dragging an anchor behind them. That’s not going to be beneficial to their experience, it’s going to be a drag, literally and figuratively.

Time gating is one thing, it’s the LoL level of gold and mats that I shake my head at.

EoTM Factions system is far superior to WvW’s server system.

EotM factions and matches provide a lighthearted RvR experience. There is a lot of joy to be had from the freedom of just being able to log in, fight, and leave without any further thoughts or concerns. There’s no requirement to organize, nor concern for the outcome, or to perform well. If that’s one definition of “superior” then I guess it is for you. For others, we like having a persistent World. Worlds and WvW matches require far greater commitment, organization, and tactics. That provides the superior meaning and substance to the WvW experience for us.

That’s why I simply state that both modes should continue as they are. They provide a wider platform for players to find joy in the game.

I don’t know if we can talk about how big of a chunk wants what, but I do know that the solution to this problem isn’t to change WvW to accommodate these demands. Even in the old state, it was very imperfect for large-team PvP. It would make more sense to increase the size of the guild hall arena and let that fill the need. If that causes a huge drop-off in WvW players, that’s too bad, but at least the remaining crowd will have more focused wants and, therefore, be easier to please.

I’m going to agree, I really don’t like a lot about HoT, especially the Mastery Points system. Even the Tyrian ones are comprised of pretty much crud too. It’s like they looked at which achievements were the least done and then picked those to be the Mastery Points. Without considering that those specific achievements weren’t wildly done for a reason. That reason usually being the content around them just wasn’t enjoyable enough to repeat for the achievement. So how on earth is it intelligent for a game developer to try to coerce players into repeating said undesirable content? The end result will always be players having an undesirable experience! When asked about GW2, those players will probably respond with, “Meh, it’s not so hot.” Because that’s what they are experiencing.

Basically, everything should have multiple avenues. This increases the opportunity for players to be achieving and enjoying their game time.
