I have that on one toon and it has worked in the past. I haven’t played that lately, though.

Try unequipping and re-equipping to see if that helps? Otherwise, sounds like a bug.

With as fast as a character can be leveled to 80 just via playing normally and reading the tomes you get from daily logins, I really don’t see the NPE as an issue. I’ve added two accounts from the $10 sales so have experienced what the NPE is like with nothing unlocked. My only real complaint was the skill challenges being locked and having to go back and do them. But really, that takes just minutes, and is only for the first character.

Traits as-is are a bother, but that is all about to change.

“Cleric’s” is just a prefix. Adventurer’s Spectacles come in all three armor classes, according to the wiki. It should list that on the description (light, medium, heavy)?

Or are you referring to something else?

Ever heard of key farming? Little effort, free keys. Still face the RNG, but at least you’re not spending $ on keys. I do both, but like the slot machine. Plus I have fairly good luck in scoring scraps and even a full ticket one time. Yesterday I had 7 scraps, used 12 keys, bought 2 weapon skins, still have a few scraps left.

Look at the asura colleges and you’ll see there is room for any profession. If this is a role playing character, then you can take some asura skills even though (oh noes!) they may not be the best choices, such as the golems. Could also use (I forget, runes or sigil?) that summons golems.

But I agree that Engineer makes a good choice.

I’ve used that one before successfully, so am thinking JAFW has nailed it.

While in combat, a ranger swapping weapons, example: longbow to greatsword, grants him the 5 skills for greatsword rather than the 5 for longbow. Look on the wiki for the skills involved.

Outside of combat, you can reselect your traits or swap out a different armor set to switch from a tankier build to a DPS build, for example.

You can be fairly certain that Guild Halls will be instanced. What that means for guildies who don’t have the expansion — nobody knows yet.

That is the New Player Experience (NPE) and is intentional. To avoid overloading new players, things are revealed slowly. I’m sure there is a list on the wiki. Once the first character on the account has gone through, the others won’t be so bad.

So nothing you can do but keep leveling.

Unlock the trait slot, but you still need to acquire the desired trait, either through some game action or purchase. The spyglass next to the trait show you what needs to be done for each trait.

Note that Anet has said this is being reworked, so I wouldn’t buy any, and only unlock the ones you must have. Or do like I do and just ignore them for now.

The little lake in Queensdale by the dam, with the earth elementals heart, is also empty. That was my first “eh, what?” moment upon playing a new toon under the NPE. Ok, maybe second. How easy the giant earth elemental went down was the first. Hmm, or maybe no weapon skill unlocks…

Help me get GW2 spirit back

in Players Helping Players

DeanBB.4268

If you miss the solo aspect of GW1, where everything was instanced, then there’s not too much to be done about that. Try googling “gw2 dungeon solo” and see if anything that comes up sparks your interest.

Otherwise, there are tons of things to farm: nodes, silverwastes, bosses. Try googling “gw2 making gold” to see if anything is of interest.

I’m not sure what to say about the TP, seems it would be more enjoyable than Spamadan was — but I’ve never been interested in being a trader. I much prefer it since I’m always just looking to buy or sell something quickly and be done with it.

GW2 has so much stuff to do. How about collections and achievements? World exploration? Hard for me to say since I don’t know what you’ve done and what you find enjoyable.

I certainly vote for a greater variety of faces and bodies, especially for humans. I added a new account with the sale and got to where I only picked the basic look and didn’t customize them at all.

Someone posted previously about a “randomize option” that would go through, make choices, and present you with a finished look. You could then accept or “reroll” for another look. I think that would be a nice feature even with the options at hand. Perhaps with sliders to how extreme you are willing for the settings to go. Could go one step further, and make that the starting point for customizing.

Anyone miss the old GW?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DeanBB.4268

I do and I don’t. I played from the beginning, so by the time GW2 came along, I was ready for something new. Then I experienced some system shock at how different 2 was from 1 and took a break, played Civ5 for a while. When I came back, I think enough time had passed since I played GW1 that I was more comfortable playing GW2.

I would have a hard time going back to GW1 now.

Berserker is the meta. The idea being, kill them before they kill you. Thus the focus on Power (damage), Precision (criticals), and Ferocity (crit damage).

That doesn’t mean that’s what you have to go with. You could mix in other stats if you want more health or armor for survivability. Or if you want to play a condition-based necro.

You can always have more than one set of armor, too. So could have a berserker set to make the dungeon speed run people happy and another when you’re just running around squashing things.

Exotics are fine. Ascended armor is primarily for fractals for AR.

Other than a few drops, I buy my exotics off the TP then, as needed, change the skin. So just farming gold (lots of posts about that) and buying what you need is a good option. Sounds like you are not crafting, so collect any nodes you pass along the way and sell.

Player controlled character shouts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DeanBB.4268

How would this work, exactly? Are you saying, for example, I could have my toon shout his battle cry “For Aunt Mary!” at the punch of a button? Who does that voice work? And who vets these phrases to make sure nothing profane gets through?

I think the idea has merit, just trying to figure out how it would work.

And I had to chuckle. If I’m playing GW2 and my wife is on the other PC in the office, she thoroughly enjoys the constant Outrunning a Centaur line. /sarcasmoff

I assume OP is referring to crafting items available only through karma. I often buy 10 when I run across one, just cuz I’m there and don’t want to have to come back.

So yes, that would be a nice addition, saving time and clicks. The game’s way too clicky already.

Daily / weekly / weekend "quests" like GW1

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeanBB.4268

DeanBB.4268

Tried a google search, came back empty, so I apologize if already posted.

Just looked at the GW1 wiki and see this:

Today

-Nicholas Sandford: Spider Legs
-Vanguard quest: Footman Tate
-Wanted: Valis the Rampant
-Zaishen Mission: The Elusive Golemancer
-Zaishen Bounty: The Darknesses
-Zaishen Combat: Codex Arena
-Zaishen Vanquish: Jaga Moraine

This week
-Nicholas the Traveler: 2 Frosted Griffon Wings in Snake Dance
-Special event: Sweet Treats Week
-Weekly bonuses: Elonian Support Bonus; Codex Arena Bonus

This month
-Flux: There Can Be Only One

Not to mention weekend bonuses (every weekend!) and a multitude of celebration events, such as the current Sweet Treats.

I would love to see more of this in GW2. Granted, GW1 is quite different, there are exclusive events for Pre-Searing and consumables like sweets are treated entirely different in this game, so things like that don’t necessarily fit.

We have the Dailies, but let’s mix it up and add more. Remember that weekend with the XP bonus? Who didn’t go crazy, ramp up the XP boosts, and rampage through zones? We wouldn’t even need outrageous rewards, just stuff like the trick or treat bags or whatnot, or the reward of just boosted XP, AP, Magic Find, or whatever the theme might be.

Little stuff like that helped keep the aging Guild Wars going. Why not add it now to GW2?

Regarding Fist and Feet weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeanBB.4268

DeanBB.4268

“Martial arts” would still need some kind of weapon, knuckles (per OP) or claws or somesuch (anyone play Sacred?) to maintain the system. Weapon = damage range + modifiers + sigil. And I’m afraid if Anet went that route that people would scream for more/bigger/flashier weapons to where they would little resemble the martial arts you’re hoping for.

Anyway, no new weapons at this point, and we get revenant, so not happening in the foreseeable future.
