They should just move to an unlock system. Once you’ve unlocked runes/sigils, then you can set them on your gear while out of combat. Or in a city. Whatever.
Yes, it will mess with the TP values of those things. But we’ll get over it.
No no no! Those dye choices are all wrong wrong wrong! :P
Are there things you like or dislike? “Only ranged” or “always melee” or whatever?
I play them all. My favorites are Guardian, Thief, Ranger. Least favorites Mesmer, Revenant. The others fall in between. I switch around a lot (I have 36 toons on 5 accounts) so never really get bored with one character. I think if I only did play my guardian, I would get bored, that’s the way I’ve always been in games that offer lots of character and/or party dynamics.
PvP you can play anytime. Auto-level 80 and max gear, so try it as you please. Make a toon, switch to PvP, try it out, delete, try another profession.
Otherwise, use those empty character slots to try out different professions. Do you have HoT? Use the insta-80 to try them out.
Our opinions don’t really amount to much, only your own.
Did anyone play the diablo-like Sacred? I have fond memories of my Barbie/Seraphim whacking away with her polearm using some kind of multi-attack animation. Good times. Ooh! And remember the BFG skill?
Anyone?
Anyone?
And all this time I thought it was the disappearing-hair-when-wearing-a-hat thing.
I may not see crowds everywhere I go on core maps, but I see plenty of players around.
“Right now im the only one of 5 that bought the game, and friends are all of different servers. Will this be problematic down the road?”
Your statement is a little confusing. First you say you’re the only one that bought the game, then you say you are all on different servers. Which is it?
If indeed your friends have not bought the game, then just let them know which server you picked and have them pick the same. If they have already picked a server, but really haven’t started playing yet, there is a way to do a server transfer. I have not done so, so look that up on the wiki if that is an option.
Heck with raptors, gimme a little quail family. Mom & Pop trailed by four smaller versions. We have them in our neighborhood (the Phoenix desert) and I love the way they run in a line.
+1 for more redheads!
Orbs? You mean sigils? Yes, you can. But they don’t stack, if that’s what you’re after.
You’d best read up on them in the wiki. In-game, just type in:
/wiki sigil
I had to stop and think. I guess the last crafting I did was a new batch of food and utility items.
Before that, I maxed a crafting line on a single alt toon so that account could have backpacks, with the intent of one toon on each account being able to. Then I discovered that you could buy max packs off the TP. So heck with that.
I keep stockpiling materials, so am sure I’ll get back into it one of these days. I have all crafting disciplines, most to 400, a few beyond that. Oh, and I have the spinal blades quite a ways along, but still need to finish it. One of these days.
Because you can normally see any single toon within a zerg? I can barely see world bosses…
So Gem store purchase, I take it. How many gems? Anything else new/on sale today?
Update: Thanks to JAFW, I see they are 500 gems. Okay, I’ll probably buy them, but if they ever go on sale EVAR I’magonna demand the difference back!

While I would love this sort of thing for my five accounts, it’s just too open to disaster if between people. Anet would have to make it permanent, then what happens when there is a break in the RL relationship? I think Anet has enough headaches without this adding to it.
You guys (forum community in general) are funny. First you say that you can beat the game naked with starter weapons. Then you complain about a shortbow as a weapon/legendary choice. Really?
I started a free account to see what it was like and if it was something I could recommend to family & friends. After I messed around with it a while, I bought a new core box off Amazon for like $18 and applied that code to the free account. Worked without any trouble. You still have to go through the normal unlock process, waiting for restrictions to lift.
No, everyone has Tomes. You get them just by logging in. Everyone might not have stacks of them sitting around, though. If you do dailies, you also get the XP scrolls, which can add up.
Yeah, no need for another free lvl-80, the game hurls XP at you no matter what you do. I wouldn’t mind them making lvl-80 scrolls a gem shop item. You wanna insta-80, then buy them.
I’d go with Asura. Their pets are bigger than they are, so they can pretend they are mounts!
I say unlock runes and sigils per account once obtained, and then let any armor/weapon select them, assuming level requirements are met. Using a rune to unlock destroys the rune, removing it from the economy. Sure, it’ll impact the economy, but we’ll get over it. Even the whiners who paid XXgold for their runes and so demand refunds will get over it.
I don’t overwrite runes or sigils on exotics+ but would if I could do so without penalty.
“There must be a technical sound reason why not…”
There is. All those greatswords would be embedded in the poor horses a**es.
That’s why I said we don’t need any more sub-80 maps. I say that and yet I still spend an awful lot of time there. We have plenty of maps for anyone under level 80, so it’s best to keep adding max level maps.
And new races… I don’t know that we’ll ever see another. A new race means new armor modeled, every – single – piece. Is it worth it? (I hate to even bring that up, but it’s already been mentioned)

Did you get the expansion?
I’d have to disagree. If they jump ahead to 80 now, they will jump ahead to 80 then. Especially considering the insta-80 they will undoubtedly get.
And for a new player -which is what this post is about, right? – what would be different to them between a core map and a new map?
Me, I do much of my exploring post-80.
I am always in favor of new maps. Best to keep them in the same level increments as the rest, if sub-80’s were added.
I just don’t see an advantage to adding sub-80 maps though. There are already plenty and if you buy an expansion in Anet’s model, you get all previous content.
I wouldn’t mind some permanent evolution in existing maps, such as additional bosses (Ashford, as already mentioned) or event chains or whatever.
I confess to not reading all of this, but did read some and skim some, so apologize if it has already been said.
I already dislike the overly-huge models such as a charr or norn with widespread wings. Now take a norn and sit it atop a scaled-up-to-fit dolyak. I would be running right past a cave, harvest node, or other such location if that giant model was standing there blocking my view. You don’t see the yellow labels such as nodes through such models. Just this one aspect makes me not want them.
Add to that the already provided fact that Anet hasn’t been able to make their character models sit, and now you want to sit a horse, kick back on a Harley, or whatever other poses are needed to fit mount models? That’s way more dev work than it’d be worth.
OP:
How is this any different than HoT? Or even a FTP account? A new player would begin in a starter zone and work his way to level 80, excluding of course an insta-80 boost.
Maybe you need to elaborate a bit more?
Hmm… I bought a mouse with a bunch of buttons and assigned Jump to one and Reverse (or whatever it is called) to another. I’m pretty sure I did that through the game’s interface options.
I’m not sitting in front of the game, so can’t look, but didn’t think it was difficult.
The profession you least enjoy playing.
Dang it! Now you all know my name!
Er… why does that matter?
Maybe try contacting support again? Attitudes may have changed. And maybe google your issue, since this has come up in the past, but I don’t remember if anything ever was resolved.
I agree with the OP: More options = better. Yes, I know there are options in WvW and PvP, but I like many avoid those game modes. I know the dailies are optional, but I like to do them and hopefully still have time to do other things. I have limited play time especially on week nights, so being able to do dailies, collect the stuff from Home, and still have time to go roam a zone, do some story, or whatever would be good.
Edit: How is EotM now that WvW has been revamped? Dead?
Try loading them onto the soulbound toon and moving to a new map?
Open your Hero panel, click on the Story icon. It lists the available stories along the left. More than likely, your personal story is still selected. Click on the HoT story. I forget – maybe you have to click something like “Begin this story?”
You should get the green star after that.
Anet has talked of changing guild/scribing upgrades, haven’t they? Is this something to hold off on until we get more info?
The gemstore sells “upgrades” that allow additional crafting professions.
Or a horse glider! Oh… wait… no…
Wait… there’s an achievement that goes along with ecto gambling? Seriously? I ran into that skritt, looked on the wiki to see what it was all about, and walked away.
Which achievement?
So many great ideas mentioned… pig, potato, tomato. I think it’s time for a personal airship / dirigible glider!
I have jump assigned to a mouse button so seem to get mis-deploys less frequently. I’m torn on reassigning it since I’ve gotten used to it. Keep it optional.
“Why does this game even have shortbows?”
Because not everything is about maximizing every number. Sometimes it’s just about fun. Or looks. Or some preconceived roleplaying preference. Or any number of other things.
And if eliminating non-maximum/efficient gear was the prevailing mentality, then why doesn’t the game just assign whatever the meta is to each character when it reaches level 80 and make it simple on everyone? Kinda like skills 6+ for Revenant.
Gwen’s Outfit: Charr cannot equip.
Make it so.
While I’m not opposed to recycling GW1 stuff, I’d also like to see more of the world. We already have deserts, so take us some place new!
I don’t rush through content, so tend to favor the big updates that I can tackle at my own pace. Smaller updates would be fine so long as they can be accomplished at any time.
Ultimately, I would like to see large expansion updates with new lands to explore, new class(es), new skills/specializations, new mechanics, new shinies. I’m not opposed to new races. Then in between those large updates, do festivals and smaller upgrades. Festival this month, update the next, etc.
Like others have stated, I’m not a fan of my skills being force-replaced with others. Not a fan of running through stories as characters other than my own. If there were some attractive rewards, then maybe. But I usually avoid that stuff for the most part.
If they were simply dungeon-like instances that I could solo whenever I desired, perhaps. Again, depends on the rewards or if they truly made the content fun/unique.
Really? I strive to NOT make my characters look the same, and I have 36 so far, at least half of them humans. Still, being able to save the settings would be nice so you can go through them all, save, then go back and tweak knowing you could return to a previous look easily.
I’m don’t understand the suggestion.
Are you saying, allow a Gem Store purchase to use weapons a profession normally cannot (example: rifle for ranger)? But then they are locked into skills and traits?
Character slots.
Crud. I was really hoping character slots would go on sale. Hoping to get 3 for about the price of 2. Oh well, guess I’ll hang onto them there gems until they do go on sale.
I collect names. Weird but true. When I run across an interesting name in a book or where ever, I add it to my list. So I have quite a list to choose from with quite a few variations.
So I never have trouble getting good names. 36 characters on 5 accounts.
I’m not going anywhere. I’m an easily distracted hoarding altaholic who has plenty of stuff yet to do in the game before I even think about my first Legendary. And I’ve been playing since launch with a long break (8 mo’s) and short break (3 mo’s) in there.
So no, can’t have my stuff, but I don’t want your stuff, either.
Much the same as ~EW: Mon-Fri login each toon on each acct for collecting what needs to be collected. Do dailies that are quick, hopefully complete on the main account. Do a boss like FE or SB if the timing is right and/or part of a daily.
More time on weekends to do stories, map completion, collections, etc — whatever I feel like and have time to pursue. Often during the week, something posted here in the forum or something I see in the wiki inspires me to check it out over the weekend.
