Wvw. Zerk vs Cond, Traps, Shouts, Or Spirit?

wvw solo roamer: spirit ranger
other: power

When you say power do you which utilities and gear choice do you mean specifically?

This is what I’m currently looking at.

Zerker Ranger in PvP

The rapid fire only went up to 10k damage. That’s 10k over 4.5 seconds. That’s really not impressive in the least. Now that said, there are tons of videos of serker ranger footage with rapid in the 10-15k, even 20k range. But there’s also footage of Warriors and Thieves do that in a single hit. Warriors can do that while regening 1k hp a second. Thieves have stealth.

If it’s fun for you, then go for it. I’m not convinced it’s as effective as you make it out to be though.

Also consider the fact that the golem npcs have low armor same as all other npcs, it will probably hit for at most 6k against any high toughness build assuming they just stand there and take it all without dodging/blocking/invul.

- The ranger dies and, for the next 7 minutes, I’m barely staying alive while tanking 7 to 9 of these dogs. When I miss a crucial heal and finally die, I notice my party hanging back and spamming auto attacks. My grief was strangely alleviated as the mobs made short work of my team.

You shouldn’t be fighting those dogs on p1 anyway.

- A minute goes by and I’m struggling to survive against the champion and 12 dogs now (yes, they multiplied) while my party seems mysteriously absent. When I finally succumb, I note my party, on the roof but this time only half of them are auto-attacking while the other half still ask what the plan is. Again, a smarter man would have quit.

A smarter man would’ve simply let the dogs pass, ran past and killed the champ by himself.

It seems like the main problem here is a total ignorance of the mechanics of that encounter by everyone involved including yourself. Of course it’s possible to actually kill that group of dogs with brute force and I’ve done it before but it’s totally unnecessary and a waste of time.

Wvw. Zerk vs Cond, Traps, Shouts, Or Spirit?

in Ranger

Posted by: DeathPanel.8362

DeathPanel.8362

No, and here is why. First, you would be forced to play as caster in the zerg (not frontline) so that your spirits don’t get instantly cleaved to death rendering all your non weapon/heal skills gone. And while they do cast their effects when they die, they won’t blind, immob, cripple, and burst damage an entire zerg, more like 3-5 people, so it isn’t worth it. You also have a severe lack of aoe outside of spirit actives, which are on somewhat long cooldowns. Without any of your spirits, (of which you traited heavily for) you’re just a weak condi ranger. Traps on the other hand, can be thrown fairly often to decent effect against groups of players, hitting typically a minimum of 5, up to a possible maximum of 25 (frost trap pulses 5 times). The only problem here is that these conditions are fairly easily cleansed in most zerg fights. Also, you can bring entangle or rampage as one instead of the nature spirit, which can both provide you or your team some much needed utility.

So basically what I’m hearing is, for zerg fights go zerk, for roaming go condition?

Doesn’t seem like much has changed in the meta.

DeathPanel.8362

For wvw zergs, you can go power based and try to frontline with moderate effectiveness, or trap condi and stick near frontline but play as a caster because you lack stability and stunbreakers. Either way, when it comes to zerg fights, you won’t be very effective against competent foes. If you want to roam, go condi and pick either spirits or traps.

Wouldn’t spirits be more useful in zergs vs roaming?

What would be better is if they turned all the weapon conjuring skills into kits like the engineer so they are equipped until dispelled instead of only being temporary. This will make elementalists far more versatile and fun to use. Of course they can scale down the damage and other effects to compensate for this.

Ineffective in WvW

DeathPanel.8362

I’m trying to understand how it is that in WvW I seem to hit for about 200-400 and frequently get hit for 1000+. This isn’t some sort of whine thread, but I want to figure out what it is that is making the difference. Quite often if I’m in a fight my opponent seems to have almost all of their health left when I go down and I’m really not sure why.

I’m a new level 80, in berserker gear. Not the best gear in the game admittedly, but not awful either. I know that by not stacking vitality or toughness then I’ll be taking hits, but why am I not dishing it out too?

Any suggestions about how the mechanics of the game are working to prevent me from doing what I consider even reasonable damage would be appreciated.

I don’t see how you hit for only 200-400 with berserker gear. Even autoattack with zerk gear on ranger is far greater.

On top of the area of effect increase I wouldn’t mind having…

Increased range to 1500 (would synergy well with Arcane Blast)
Chain Lightning up to 5 targets (how cool would that be)

I understand Meteor Shower, Unsteady Ground, and Fireball are not affected by this trait and that’s fine. You must have a reason for it.

I don’t think that’s asking for much.

Any other staff eles agree?

Somehow I don’t think that would happen. BS is already the must have skill for staff elementalists they are not going to buff a skill that is overused.

Depending on what you want to do having balanced stats may not be the best thing.

I would probably not use the soldier jewelry since you are already getting 300 vit from traits.

I’d probably do knights or zerk jewelry depending on how comfortable you are with your armor level.

If you are not comfortable with your toughness with zerk jewelry you can make up for some of that by swapping out purity with Strength in Numbers since you already got condition removal via shouts.

GS and Sword/Shield Viable in WvW?

I’m curious about making a guardian and wanted to know if a GS and Sword/Shield weapon combo is ever used or if there is any builds that utilize this combo. I mainly WvW so I need answers that focus around that. I’m looking for a DPS guardian build that utilizes the shield as defense. Along with GS and sword for damage output. Let me know if this weapon set is even viable because I have yet to see a guardian build on any of the stickied topics that utilizes sword/shield.

I was going to say yes then I realized this wasn’t the warriors forums.

Concerns About the New Ascended Weapons/Armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeathPanel.8362

DeathPanel.8362

I have a few concerns about the new ascended gear coming out and hopefully they respond.

Less Customization
Am I the only one who liked having exotics accessories more than ascended as the top tier? I would rather have the runes/orbs/jewels for exotics because I could choose my stats more decisively; especially with orbs. If the ascended gear isn’t going to have runes/orbs slots, then it’s going to become less interesting and even more gear setups are going to be the same.

Valkyrie Sets
I’m worried that they won’t have the Valkyrie set for the weapons/armor since they don’t have it for the accessories. If don’t plan on adding it, then I’m going to be pretty irritated as I’ve already spent my laurels for ascended accessories that I planned out for a certain setup.

The Grind
How long/expensive is this stuff going to take to earn? I like having different sets of gear for different builds. I also plan on leveling another character and I want it to be at top tier.

I’m interested to hear what you guys think.

Also, I couldn’t find anything about this through Google or the search function so I apologize if there has already been at thread about this.

It’s not going to be expensive per say but they did say that it will be time restricted to where you can only craft one mat or one item per day similar to how you transmute quartz crystals.

Guardian for dungeons

in Guardian

DeathPanel.8362

I already have a very critty high DPS and squishy thief and now i want something a bit tankier and supporty.

I’m probably going to be focusing on dungeons but being able to handle your standard PvE is of course also helpfull (In case i need to help some guildies with Temples in Orr or something)

Is guardian good for being tanky? I know of course that you can never be full tank in this game so it is not what i am expecting. I want to be able to provide a decent amount of heal aswell alongside the usual pain dealing just so that I can be usefull in a dungeon.

(if for example going zerker is more helpful for a dungeon party than going knights, then suggestions in that regard are also appreciated.)

0 0 30 30 10 full zerker would be a nice balance if dungeons are all you are planning to do.

He explicitly said this was for PvE.

I must’ve missed the part where he said it was pve only that is my mistake. However condition isn’t too good in pve either unless you are the only condition person in your team since there are stack limits for bleed and burning doesn’t stack in intensity.

I know because my necro is basically identical to his in build and traits and my dps chars consistently outperform my necro in damage.

It’s a fun concept to have and it did work very well in wvw prior to the whole -condition meta but currently it doesn’t appear condition builds are optimal in any field.

DeathPanel.8362

Good day everyone,

side-note: sorry i didn’t post this here sooner, i’ve been caught up with a lot of real life… activities, anyway…
Due to the recent changes done to the necromancer class, some of the old builds required updating… so without further ado i give you…

Guild Wars 2 – The new conditionmancer (perfected guide)

Do not be alarmed by the size of the video, in the first few moments of it you will encounter a table of content/menu designed for an easy and comfortable viewing experience.
Who ever wishes to get the quick information from it can simply browse through the categories… and those who wish to understand all there is to know about the conditionmancer can sit back and enjoy…

I have also went further in depth then ever before with the explications behind my decisions on why this particular combination of skills, traits, utilities and damage rotation… by adding a proof of concept in terms of math calculations both in terms of AoE damage and survivability, so we can finally put in perspective what a conditionmancer ca actually do… and why.

FINAL STATS:

53% Critical Strike Chance
1999 Condition Damage
50% Condition Duration / 133% Bleeding Duration
2564 Armor
23,081 Health
300 Healing power
————
+ has the highest sustained AoE damage possible
+ the ability to act as a support for his secondary role, therefor bleed overstacking is not an issue
+ the ability to be highly survivable in long fights vs multiple opponents… it’s survivability is extremely high for the amount of AoE damage it provides at the same time

This new way of doing things, while it is a great effort… has brought me a “burst” of positive feedback in the day since i uploaded the video… so i really hope you guys enjoy as well.

If i missed anything or if you have any questions feel free to comment here, on in the comment section on youtube.

PS: If i have to remake this again in the near future due to trait modifications, i thought about splitting these categories into separate videos, so i will just remake the separate categories if need be, instead of the entire video… since it is a 5 days work.
What do you guys think ?

Enjoy

guardian and escapes

as someone who plays guardian, mesmer, and engineer, i find that my guardian has the most amount trouble getting away from things. it just seems strange that the heavier the armor, the less survivable your class is.
ele and mesmer can get away from almost anything(necro cannot because anet doesn’t like necros)
engineer and thief(thief can get away from Anything) have great survivability.
warrior can run and has great mobility, guardian can…tank. alot. but not really any escapes.
QED: if you’re a guardian at low hp and something is gunning from you, is there something to rely on other than my armor?

Problem with guardians is that they don’t have any viable means to achieve perma swiftness, at least not any way that doesn’t involve totally gimping yourself.

My meditation guard has mobility problems at the moment as well. It’s easy to get into a fight or even chase most people down but there’s no real way to escape or get out of a fight aside from winning or dying.

It’s been a while since I’ve used meditation build and while the burst is good I find that I run into a lot of mobility problems in wvw.

So the question here is, what can I do to address the mobility problem meditation builds encounter in wvw? (Swapping to staff or adding a shout doesn’t seem to work well with meditation)

Catching up to people seems to be easy enough but supply running and getting away from people seems to be a problem.

There’s no tanks in this game. Building a tankish character may grant you more survivability and is more helpful in certain situations but it’s not required.

Zerker builds tend to do well in exp dungeons as long as you know the mechanics to shorten the run.

Tankish builds tend to do well in wvw settings with some exceptions.

DeathPanel.8362

I play this game to have fun. I love dungeons and I enjoy boss fights.
But then I meet groups that only glitch bosses, standing in a corner pew pewing the boss without fear of being hit at all.
Then when I ask them how they can have fun glitching, they say they don’t do this for fun, they do this for farming. I’m not expecting any other answers from them. I’ve rolled around the internet long enough to know I’m not gonna find anything else then cheaters, glitchers, trolls and farmers.
But seriously… I wish ArenaNet could fix all the glitches in dungeons, especially for all the bosses. Nearly all of them can be glitched… it’s lame enough that nobody plays for fun, but theses people are ruining MY fun telling me to stand in that freaking corner when I don’t want to.

Your idea of fun is not necessarily someone else’s idea of fun. Usually in a team “fun” is only by consensus and if everyone else wants to do one thing that you don’t want to do then it’s your choice to do it or leave.

Not ANet’s problem. There’s no real way for them to measure you’ve done a dungeon or not unless you were there at the time the dungeon ended. Dungeons are also instanced so they can’t store your session since it ends the moment the creator leaves team.

A realistic solution is simply to get a more stable internet connection.

Fractal attitude

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: DeathPanel.8362

DeathPanel.8362

This picture reminds us once again that you shouldn’t judge people based on their class. Several minutes earlier this guardian told us in Lion’s Arch that he didn’t want to team up with 2 light armors and a ranger for Fractals level 20.

We managed to convince him to give it a try anyway, but he predicted that we’d find out in no time that it doesn’t work.

Our first Fractal is the swamp, we all do fine. Guess who is the first player to go down at Mossman? In fact, throughout the whole run our squishy players did really well. Our ranger hardly went down, our other necro a few times, and I hardly went down at all. The guardian was eating the dirt quite a lot throughout the whole run. It really all boils down to player skill. And no doubt some classes are better than others. There is an imbalance, make no mistake. And don’t get me wrong, this particular player wasn’t a bad guy. He finished the run with us, and we didn’t hear anything out of him after the first Fractal. So I’m not posting this to come down on the guy. But this attitude has got to stop. Just play together and have fun.

Going down on Mossman doesn’t really prove much. High lvl fractals he will one shot anyone.

Also, having higher defense attracts more mob aggro and therefore damage so it would make sense that the guard would end up going down more if he is the only heavy armor.

CoF is perfect the way it is.

I don’t farm it; I never run zerker groups when doing it.

That being said, it is perfectly fine for other players to want to farm it any way they’d like to; they want to, they enjoy it, they’re entitled to their own game experience.

Other farming methods being removed or nerfed is a different story altogether, so I won’t bring it up here.

Even without a guild or friends that play the game, it is INCREDIBLY easy to get groups together to run it that doesn’t involve four warriors and a mesmer adhering to perfectly executed roles.

I run it every day for tokens with random PuGs and have never had any issues with it at all.

It’s a great introduction to dungeons for new players, with the paths increasing a little in difficulty; path three would be a pretty good intro to game dungeon mechanics for those who want to do harder dungeons.

It is also a great way to get your first set of exotic gear; especially considering you can get a Berserker set with tokens.

All in all, it is easy to do casually, you can farm it if you wish, it’s a great intro, (taking all paths into consideration) and it’s a great way to get new players exotic gear.

I don’t understand all the hate I see going around; there’s nothing wrong with people wanting to farm it, and there’s ALSO nothing wrong with having a few explorable paths that are stupidly easy. If you want challenge, there are other places to seek it; every game is going to have its really easy parts, and more difficult parts.

I seriously do not understand why CoF is a bad thing at all; I enjoy running Arah and high level fractals, and THAT’S where I derive some more challenge from, but leave CoF as it is.

Maybe make other methods of farming gold more viable as well, but I don’t think there’s any issues with the way its set up.

The recent blog post states that the coin rewards from bosses will be removed. This means the cof farming will not be viable once that patch goes live.

in Necromancer

Posted by: DeathPanel.8362

DeathPanel.8362

I think it would be a good idea to change Dhuumfire’s 4s burning every 10s to a 3s torment without internal cooldown. First off, it would solidify torment as the Necromancer’s condition. It fits both mechanically and thematically, both for necros and Dhuum himself. It would help duels against highly mobile classes, it would rarely suffer from the stack cap in PvE since the condition is pretty rare, and it would be much more reliable without an internal cooldown. The normally low-mobility necromancer could have a brand new weapon to use against anyone that has better movement options than themselves (which is almost everyone), and that also fits the theme.

No Internal CD = you can stack on 45 seconds of torment every 30 seconds on everyone in wide range with epidemic.

The cries of nerfs would drown out this forum.

What kind of behavior would you choose to say, “Well, this PUG had their chance, it’s kick time.”?

I was recently doing AR with my guildies, but we had 1 spot we needed filled, so we grabbed a PUG. He D/Cs before the end boss, so we eventually decide to pick up another PUG rather than four person the run. Picked up a guardian meaning that our group was Guard x3, warrior, elementalist.

We go in and myself, our other guardian and our warrior are meleeing Mai, trying to get the electric circles to pop up under us so we can pull the stacks off of her.

The PUG guardian is using his scepter and staying at range. Which is okay, just slightly annoying when the electric circles pop up under him and it becomes more difficult to get Mai to end up in one.

After the first 25%, when Mai jumps back down, the PUG says in chat, “lol why are you guys dpsing her?”
To which I reply, “We’re trying to get the electric fields on her, what are you doing?”
He says, “Better than you”

Now, this guy just jumps in at the last boss, is in a guild run, and the first thing he says is basically an insult. My first thought is to kick this guy then and there, but then I always hated the idea of just kicking a person and I try to avoid it. I know we could have 4 personed this fight. In the end we chose not to kick this PUG, but I know I put him on my block list. Would you guys have given him the boot? Do you feel it would have been justifiable?

On a side note, is meleeing Mai Trin really that odd?

You don’t have to melee Mai Trin. Just stay in close range so she gets hit by the electric field by the first mate. But yeah I’d want to kick someone with that type of attitude too.

What happened?!

That’s fine. You guys sit here and drink your own tears while the rest of us go figure out the new metagame. You can come back once all the best Warrior builds are all nice and theorycrafted for you.

The rest of us conferred and have decided that the new metagame involves something other than warriors.

it could be good advice.

Maybe, but you don’t know that prior to giving it. That’s why it’s crap advice.

If those are the standards then all advice would be crap advice since no one person is the exact same as someone else so what applies to one person may not apply to another.

That would make your statements, “crap advice” under your own logic.

Great, then I will remind you that everyone that plays the game does this every time they play and tweek their builds that might result in mixed gear. So much for your claim that no one is testing anything.

Why is it you keep on trying to change the topic and strawman(I never claimed no one is testing anything) every time I point out your flawed arguments? (Rhetorical, I know why)

This was your original failed argument which demonstrated your lack of knowledge of what empirical data is.

I’m just going to remind you that you already dismissed empirical data for a more ‘in-game testing’ approach.

“Empirical data: a source of knowledge acquired by means of observation or experimentation.”

That would be the DEFINITION of in game testing.

Class dismissed.

You can’t. It’s a matter of personal preference. That’s why telling someone mixing is terrible is crap advice. It might be GREAT to them.

Or it might not and it could be good advice. It depends on the person being told the advice and how they play.

Once again you are failing to understand. You can’t prove an opinion wrong unless the data backing the opinion is wrong.

And since you’ve already stated you don’t dispute the numbers provided. You are just talking circles around your own failed, unsound argument.

I’m just going to remind you that you already dismissed empirical data for a more ‘in-game testing’ approach.

Posting my character build has something to do with the fact that mixing isn’t terrible? I don’t even …

If you want to mix and it suits your playstyle, do it. My builds don’t have anything to do with other players styles and capabilities.

How would you demonstrate mixing isn’t terrible if you don’t have a mixed build in game that you can playtest with and come to that conclusion?

Don’t tell me your entire argument was just a contrarian joke.

You must have some sort of empirical data to back your argument. Otherwise it becomes rather worthless don’t you think?
