Screw convention. Play how you want. When I see people stacking up, I just do my own thing, unless I just feel like mindlessly nuking to get some quick cash. It’s more fun to me to play the game as it was intended. Play a glass cannon ele, that’ll get you out of a corner in a hurry, as you will get squished if you don’t sit in water and get carried. As far as reflecting on Lupi, that’s a feature, not an exploit. If you want to fight him without reflects, you are not alone and shouldn’t have trouble finding people who feel the same way. If you’re PUGging, just avoid “EXP” “Zerk” and “red Run” as those are usually the meta groups. GW2 has an awesome community. Be part of that and guide low-levels/first timers through, they normally want to experience the content as intended.

Actually Eles stack in corners just as well as every other class. I’ve never seen a good Ele switch to water during combat. Switching to it post combat to clear some condis, sure. But never during a fight. Fire, Fire, Fire, its all a good staff Ele needs.

Your point about Lupi is spot on though. And also yes, if you don’t want to play the meta nobody is forcing you. Just don’t join meta lfg parties and then get upset when you get kicked for not playing the meta.

Meta's and exploits are killing this game

So I’ve played since launch and lately I cant even log in because the game is so boring to me. I PvE, mostly dungeon or fotm and this zerker meta is literally killing the game. Just recently a old gw2 member named Nemesis uploaded a video on this subject and he hit alot of points that I’ve noticed and even more than I didn’t notice. (GJ nemesis!)

So this meta is all about DPS, Corner stacking, Glitching and exploiting.. Some evidence…

-The meta is DPS because its all Zerker gear (out of the 23 stat prefix’s, guess anet just wanted to make different stat gear for giggles)

-Corner stacking doesn’t need evidence, everyone has done it but it’s common in MMO’s and isn’t a problem unless it’s mixed with the other 3 parts of the meta.

-Glitching is a serious problem but people do it and it’s literally accepted as part of the meta. A few examples are CM attacking people through walls, CM climbing wall by Frost in P1 to take 0 damage, CM P2 running the boss between 2 plateau’s to become completely stuck, etc. I only mentioned CM but there’s glitching in every dungeon, just youtube “gw2 Glitch (whatever dungeon)” and you’ll be met with video proof.

- Exploiting is just stupid and yet people still do it to Lupi with reflecting his attacks to down him in seconds. Obviously this isn’t challenging content for a boss in a dungeon yet now it’s accepted as ok? wtf man. There are more but I draw a fine line between glitching and exploiting so i’ll let you choose.

So as nemesis states in his video “Gw2 abondonded the holy trinity to become…just dps?” It’s literally gotten to a point where people are stating that certain classes are sub par and should not be taken for optimal dps. How is this better? I for one think it’s literally ludicious and now with HoT coming I’m sending the Dev’s a message…" You have the opportunity to fix what has been left to grow into such a big problem. The ball’s in your court, Please stay true to your word to make this MMO the be all end all MMO"

Just so you know (Nemesis says this as well), 3.5 million copies of the game has been sold since launch but only 443k views on the expansion reveal video. These number’s are fairly alarming as the majority of players still interested in the game would of watched the video already. New or returning players will be greeted by looking up videos of corner stacking, glitching, all dps numbers and most likely turn away from the game as it’s bad advertising.

What does everyone else think about gw2 current state? Is all this ok?

Link to Nemesis video as it’s very informative: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=js5ltIBr73s

Zerker is the meta because it is the best way to do it. If they broke Zerker the next best thing would be meta. That is how metas work. You can’t fix it because it isn’t broken.

Stacking is done in almost every MMO in existence.

Glitching? You can’t kill anything through walls in CM any longer, only the lowest DPS NON-ZERKER teams need to climb up to kill Frost because a high dps team will burn him down before it matters.

Exploit? How is using reflects, a game mechanic designed to reflect projectiles, on Lupi’s reflects to kill him an exploit? That is probably the single most desperate complaint I’ve ever read.

DPS isn’t the meta, ever single meta build has something that they bring to the party. It is the reason classes like Necro aren’t part of the meta. A power necro can dish out a ton of damage, but overall they are a selfish class that doesn’t bring anything to the party. Guardians bring aegis, reflects, blinds, etc. Warriors bring might and banners. Elementalists bring might, ice bows, etc. Mesmers bring boon stripping, reflects, etc. Thieves bring stealth, high dps, and blinds.

There are no problems with the zerker meta. There are only problems with people who don’t want to run the zerker meta getting mad at people who do as if they have some right to tell zerker wearers what to wear.

Necro's still bring nothing..

Because you only get two dodges? For PvE that’s fine, but for pvp and wvw two dodges isn’t going to cut it for a slow hitting melee class. How are you going to hit the enemy with a slow hitting attack if you have to interrupt your own attack to dodge?

For Pve, little stab is fine. But it looks like Reaper isn’t getting much party support, so yet again good luck with your hard hitting melee spec that people won’t take over Warriors and Guard.

Lol 2 dodges isn’t enough, Okay buddy. Now you’re blaming the class on your own inability to play the game. Sad day.

Anet simply doesn’t care about Guardian right now. “Guardians are in a good place right now” so best to just give us a useless spec and hope we shut up eventually.

Longbow without Dragonhunter

Dinks.2478

Yes, unfortunately. If you want a useful ranged weapon you need to trait for useless virtues, useless traps and unneeded longbow related things.

The design of elite specializations is that it’s a significant shift in how you play. At the same time, by limiting combinations with other traits, it allows for better balance and for future elite specializations to feel unique. So if you’re expecting to just add on to the base profession, you’re mistaken.

Dragonhunter’s intended playstyle seems to be oriented toward a solo player with more offensive abilities rather than support for a group. Most guardian players (or at least the more vocal ones) were looking for a support option with longbow. Just because it’s not what you wanted doesn’t mean that the Dragonhunter design is bad. However, you can argue about whether Dragonhunter fulfills its design or if that role is useful.

They better show something that gives stability and sustain tomorrow then, cause good luck playing a slow hitting melee class without lots of that.

What is with the love affair everybody has for stability. Its a useful boon but it isn’t the end of the world without it. Do people not know how to dodge?

Really?

Dragonhunter addressed issues people actually had with Guardian. It gave us a long range weapon, potential condition damage, and soft CC with Cripple.

While the Necro spec looks cool, it hasn’t addressed a single concern the Necro community has.

No it didn’t… It gave us a longbow if we sacrifice an entire line of useful traits for a line of useless ones. It gave us potential condition damage if we are willing to use inferior skills with inferior cooldowns and inferior damage. And finally it gave us soft CC if you ignore all of the soft CC we already had like immobilizes.

On the other hand Reaper looks like it is going to give Necro viable melee range combat capabilities as well as legitimate power build viability.

Not to mention traps are a useless backline item. Since you know, they require the enemy to walk over them to be useful. All in all this is the worst backline change I’ve ever seen.

Anet needs to stop calling or referring to the Dragonhunters as “witch hunters”. GW2 has a large Pagan community and whether their ancestors or even if they themselves are witches, the witch hunters past and present still victimize anyone they view as a “witch”. This needs to stop in real life AND game life.

GW2 has made strides in equal treatment of the LGBT community, please don’t make unintended victims out of those who follow the Pagan Path in our community, in the form of Sylvari mostly, by using this reference.

Just please stop referring to the unfortunately named Dragonhunter as “witch hunters”.

I know you are all excited about the changes you have made but quite frankly you have ruined the Guardian for me with these terrible skills, traits and name.

The fact that you are encouraging people to hunt those who may or may not be minions of Mordremoth (and face it, the fact that the Pale Tree is/was intended as a dragon champion before being found, planted and raised by Ronan and Ventari makes every Sylvari a minion in the eyes of a zealot witch hunter) is a major disappointment.

Personally I was hoping for a Guardian more along the lines of healing and party support, not some crazed zealot in the Tea Party/GOP venue.

I have nineteen level 80’s but I fear that my Guardians have all just been retired to mule status.

lol, I retract all arguments about Dragonhunter, Lololol. As long as we get more quality jokes like this I am all good with it.

A couple notes on Dragonhunter. We went with this name because we felt it was evocative of the medieval witch hunters. Guardians consider themselves protectors of the innocent. Followers of their faith be it in honor, valor, etc. The origin of the dragonhunter is a more subtle nuanced version of this. Guardians fight for justice and the dragonhunter faction believes justice is the eradication of dragons and their minions. I understand this is a lot more high concept than Mesmer but at the end of the day we felt like we wanted to try and push a more mature theme here. I hope this helps explain our thinking. We had other generic names in mind but felt like it was important to have a mix of spec names that are generic fantasy, more Tyrian fantasy, and more high concept. This one falls more in the third category.

This is not the first time that ANet adds 1 to 2 and gets 12 while the rest of the world gets 3.

I would’ve bought it if they outright said “Hey, we want to attract younger audience, and this spec was the only one we could do it with!”, but this reasoning just doesn’t cut it.

ANet came up with a very specific, disconnected term (dragon hunter) which a 10-year old would’ve suggested since more abstract fantasy concepts (sentinel, warden, seeker, arbiter, seraphim) are far from his understanding and beyond his vocabulary. And then ANet states that we, players who have written hundreds of elaborated posts on the subject already, fail to grasp this deep concept. I wonder if this is just PR talk to cover up for the younger audience targeting, or they believe that a glorified ranger is something that naturally comes from a concept of a “holy knight” guardian we’ve always had in our minds for 2+ years.

I lol’d, because I had almost the exact same thought process reading his explanation.

He flat out implied that anybody who “doesn’t get it” was too dumb to get it.

I’m not super versed in the lore, but it seems likely to me that as the game goes on we will discover all the races come from one of the dragons somehow. Maybe us non-sylvari should take it easy on them for right now.

No, Humans aren’t even from Tyria to begin with. Also in Guild Wars 1 it is implied that the Norn and Humans can breed together and have similar physiology so it is safe to assume that maybe the Norn are the same as Humans and were perhaps brought to Tyria ahead of the rest of Human kind.

As far as Charr and Asura go I can’t give you any evidence that they aren’t products of dragons but it seems pretty unlikely. They don’t fit into the theme of any of the Elder dragons like the Sylvari do and unlike the Sylvari their races aren’t so young. People have been speculating about the Sylvari dragon minion thing since before GW2 even came out.

Traps are still going to be underwhelming.

And traps.

Traps.

Nothing screams “knock me back, fear me out of, of evade through this space and render this skill more useless” than the word “trap”. Tying that to the HEALING skill? Now you’re just trolling us. At least that’s how i feel so far.

Maybe that will change once we see more, but for now, this new spec isn’t seeming like one that will get lots of play.

Yeah the more I think about this the more I’m starting to hate it. At first I was pretty excited about the dragonhunter because I always wanted a good two-handed ranged weapon for my guardian. But that’s honestly the only good thing we’ll get with the dragonhunter. The new virtues sound bad. Traps sound horrible and the #6 healing skill being a trap sounds particularly terrible.

If I could play a dragonhunter minus the new virtues and minus the traps I’d probably consider it. I want that longbow, but I want to keep my old virtues and my old utility skills.

I am pretty sure you can go Dragon Hunter without the trap skills. I Though assume that most traits in the Elite specialization is tied to traps.

Hopefully they’ll also give us trait options that aren’t related to traps at all.

I can see potential for the dragonhunter in PvP, but only if we can ditch the traps and pick some other good traits that will buff up our longbow and virtues.

I’m really sad that Anet chose traps as the dragonhunter’s weapon type. Like, really sad. I’ll probably never play dragonhunter in PvE and WvW. Only in PvP might I give it a shot but probably without using any traps…

Ye… But it is hard to say atm. I might not change my Guard (Becouse I like my build and it seems to be untouched) but I dunno what will happen when the Expac arrives.

No, I main a Guardian and was very much looking forward to finally having a ranged weapon option and now I’m looking for a new main after almost 3 years.

So you mained a class, looked forward to a ranged option, got it along with a healthy dose of mobility, and because it wasnt all you expected it to be you’re looking to reroll (from a class that you could easily still play with additional buffs outright ignoring the specialization, mind you) without even seeing raw numbers?

Less hyperbole please.

No, I saw the skills on the ranged “weapon” and noticed none of it is related to combat and it is entirely support making it the guardian staff of ranged weapons aka useless.

As I mentioned before, those skills could easily be applied to cancelling projectile barrages. coupled with the leap virtue, Guardian now has a gap closer for ranged harassment, instead of relying on blocks/aegis.

Just because they don’t have direct damage doesnt mean they cant get you in your opponents face/cripple their dps.

I could get into my opponents face with my sword the entire time. Guardians have never had trouble closing gaps. That is not a thing that exists. We needed the ability to fight back from range to begin with. Plus that shield isn’t going to stop “barrage” barrage isn’t a projectile it is ground targeted AoE.

Are we really comparing the elite specializations between:

- a current class that is near mandatory or very, VERY sought after in group content: the guardian

versus

- an okay support class that gets taken along if nothing better is found (support ele, thief, warrior, guardian)?

If anet area any where serious about breaking up the meta, it should be almost a given that weaker, less sought after classes get more desirable reworks or additions. Also just as with the chronomancer, the new guardian elite specialization opens up new play opportunities for guardians and focuses on an aspect currently lacking with the class, ranged combat.

I’d say, wait and see.

no it doesn’t? It turns them into backline support. They get traps… which are the opposite of ranged combat. And their bow seems to basically be a support machine. So it isn’t even a ranged combat weapon it is a ranged backline support weapon.

So they get more focus on backline support and traps. How is that not adding something to the guardians repertoire?

Not counting the other arguments made, especially the one about guardians being the end-all of wanted classes atm.

Guardians needed a ranged option, not backline support and traps that are so bad that even Rangers the class they were invented for won’t touch them.

There have been calls for new weapons, and for existing weapons to be ported to other professions, almost since launch. So, what is the point of adding a weapon (new, or just new to the prof.) if it does not add options to that profession? What would the point be of adding options that the profession already has? Should additions to a profession not play and feel differently than the existing options? What did people expect from a guardian elite spec?

+1 to xinskspillx. Paragon would certainly have made sense lore-wise.

That argument would make sense if Guardians had a ranged option right now. Currently we have Scepter and its attacks are so slow it can be dodged by my dead grandmother.

Best bet is that your ISP is limiting you. Bandwidth throttling is something that many ISPs are guilty of, some deliberately limiting certain ports.

Were it an issue with the GW2 launcher, then it would be everybody. Since it is, obviously, not everyone suffering, then logic suggests that the issue is occurring between you and the servers. The most likely place for this to happen, if it’s persistent, is with your ISP.

Could be worth your while to call them and find out if they engage in throttling, and at what point it kicks in.

No, it is literally anet. This problem happens for a large portion of the player base. It shows on reddit, these forums, twitter and facebook during most patches.

Did you seriously just come in here and define yourself as a 1% minority, then demand anyone care what happens to you in the new system?

You do not impact the community in a significant enough way to be considered.

So what you are saying is Anet should only care about certain members that play? And only certain people who pay real money?

And not care about the rest?

And AGAIN why include Guild Banks, that makes no sense.

Complain on. Statistically this affects a very minute amount of players. I don’t think Anet is going to change their stance anytime soon.

Then they are going to probably start losing people if they don’t like to listen to their customers. It’s the nature of the beast, since our stance isn’t going to change anytime soon. It’s not a good idea to screw over people who pay money, especially people who like the stuff in the gem store and people actual money. And they probably make loads of money on the gem store.

But which customers do they listen to? those that don’t like it, or those that do? If those that are OK with and support the change, and are buying gems, then who do they risk alienating? The majority, or minorty? At that point, it’s better to appease the majority and lose the minorty who probably aren’t very happy with the game anyway. More happy players brings in even more happy players, which is a win for anet.

But why do you like it? It has zero positive affect on you. But it negatively affects others. So basically you like it because it hurts other people? This isn’t going to change gold sellers. They’ll just transfer their gold in the form of something like ectos. And it isn’t going to increase account security because being mailed gold does not increase your accounts chance of being stolen.

I like it because it curtails the efforts of Gold Sellers. Sure they can and will find other methods, but it involves more than just sending items to be sold on the TP.
The account security lies in, if its harder for Gold Sellers to do their business, by the player either having to wait to get their ill gotten gains, or to have to sell a bunch of items on the TP, than they are less likely to use their services. Also if your account gets hacked (Which is generally done by Gold Sellers who steal your stuff and send it to a different account) having the limitation stops them from recieving all your goods at once. Which in turn leads to a greater chance of them being caught. Plus with the limitation of being able to recieve 500g a week, that also limits their buying power on the TP.

Prices on the TP aren’t static. If ectos become the new curency, what will happen to the prices? Will they go up, or drop? Either way, unless you are using non-TP able items, the prices are not going to remain stable enough to reliably use them as a currency.

That is not true, it won’t curtail anything. It will as I said just turn the transfer into items instead of gold.

And once again, how is this stopping people from getting their account stolen?

I am also confused how you think that limiting the amount of gold a person can receive is going to stop somebody from SENDING everything on my account to another one.

This is nothing but a poorly planned and poorly implemented barrier that won’t change much of anything for the better but will hurt a minority of the players for the worst. I suppose you can be a selfish person and say it MIGHT help you and since it doesn’t hurt you it doesn’t matter. But I cannot be that selfish person who ignores the issues of others just because it isn’t an issue of mine.

When the Zerker meta changes it will change to something new that everybody will run and then everybody will whine about that. Breaking core game mechanics to force that change isn’t a good idea.

While I’ve never even held 500g at one time, I can feel for the guild raffles that will suffer from this.

Guys. It’s 500 gold a week. It’s not going to cramp anyone’s style of wealth distribution.

Kitten, it’s more gold each week than I’ve ever seen.

Good thing you won’t be affected. There is no problem here guys. This guy won’t be affected. Lets all go home and stop caring about it. We should have checked with TooBz before we got upset about this stuff to begin with,

From your statement I guess as long as no patch negatively affects you it is a good patch. No regard for the people it does affect though right?

Dinks, I’m pretty sure you just gave the exact OPPOSITE opinion in the Vulgar Language and Belligerence thread.

No I didn’t? People having a name you disagree with is not your business. People advocating a game crippling patch that harms other player is everybodies business.
