Spirit Shards as a newer player

Its not really true, We had a very similar system. Before hero points and spirit shards existed there was only skill points. Skill points were acquired via skill challenges (now hero challenges) and leveling post 80. When the system was changed all skill challenge skill points were turned into Hero Points, all excess skill points were turned into spirit shards. So basically we had no advantage and the system is basically the same now. Our only real advantage is time. We’ve had years to acquire thousands of extra points by playing.

There is an advantage actually. Old system didn’t require maxing out all masteries.

Something you can do in a week or two. I am pretty sure I was maxed out on masteries about 3 days after HoT launched, granted I grinded pretty hard so a week or two for more casual play makes some sense.

The reason they think those reasons are fair is that they figure that folks already got “full use” out of the items, i.e. it’s not about whether the kits have an ongoing value now as that they had a substantial value then

That is like suddenly saying tomorrow you can only have 8 character slots but they dont care that you cant use your other characters because you already got use out of them.

It’s not remotely similar. They have not limited the use of your existing item; they added something that makes its convenience less important. Taking away character slots would be taking something away, and not just the convenience factor.

I get that you’re upset and it’s understandable. But try not to exaggerate the impact; it hurts rather than helps your case.

No, they made it useless. As in it sits in my bank and takes up a slot because there is literally zero reason to carry two of them.

Spirit Shards as a newer player

Apparently back when the game was released you could spend hero points on Spirit Shards, effectively giving you a reason to keep acquiring them (hero points) after you’ve completed your spec. If that’s not wholly accurate, I apologize. However, there was a way to obtain more Spirit Shards above and beyond the the leveling method.

Now, I don’t have all mastery lines maxed. Tyrian points are not as abundant as they should be, or as easily obtained. I could finish out HoT if I spent some more time on adventures or collections, but that’s not really the point of this post. Just wanted to point out that because I’m not maxed in either zone, I can’t receive shards from levels.

Is there a reason we can’t go back to spending extra hero points on Spirit Shards? This could be a locked feature until you’ve maxed all of the spec lines, or Miyani could receive what would effectively be a buyback item that converts a Spirit Shard into a Hero Point, so you couldn’t accidentally spend more than you wanted and no longer be able to finish your skills out.

This is only a problem now that I’m interested in crafting a legendary. I spent all of my shards on philosopher’s stones for attempts at forging mystic clovers. However, I still need 200 for a Bloodstone Shard… and I’m sitting at like 13.

If you want to keep the acquisition method the same, why not adjust the current mastery system so that while you don’t have enough mastery points to spend in a zone , but you’ve maxed out the experience bars in all zones you’re able, you go back to leveling toward Spirit Shard? It doesn’t hurt anything or screw the economy in any way, but it doesn’t frustrate those of us who aren’t achievement hunters, haven’t been playing for four years straight, or didn’t get in early on the game and amass a sizable collection of the currency we need?

Where in the game does scaling like this actually work?

Actually HoT has a pretty good example itself. That VB HP where you glide down into the ruins is pretty good. It is completely soloable, spawns a veteran and normal mobs. Scales much higher with more people. Soloable if you want/that is all that is available when needed and more challenging when in a group.

All of this map completion should be challenging and you should play with other people is nonsense. First of all, map completion is a personal goal. Second, map completion is boring to a lot of people and they don’t do it. When I was map completing VB on a bunch of toons I had to beg people to come help out at the guano HP or even the frogs on the SW side. People are too busy doing the metas or just don’t care.

The only reason we bought multiples is because anet told us they would never have shared slots to begin with.

I can’t imagine them ever saying that. I bought multiple everlasting gathering tools because I wasn’t holding my breath for it to happen.

For the OP, ANet has given out refunds to some players, so it can’t hurt to ask.

There are multiple reasons why they didn’t give it out to everyone who owned multiple o-matics. The reason they think those reasons are fair is that they figure that folks already got “full use” out of the items, i.e. it’s not about whether the kits have an ongoing value now as that they had a substantial value then

Spoilers concerning Living World season 3 episode 2 (adding to things already said)

We have Taimi in second episode explaining what is magic, how is it separated and how dragons absorb magic from dead dragons, and we saw that with Mordemorth. So it is clearly stated that Zhaitan is dead dead)

Taimi looked at the data for five minutes and is speculating, it doesn’t have to be true. She’s been wrong before..

It is 100% ovservable truth. We have destroyers who are Primodus’ minions running around with death and plant based powers. The result of gaining power from Zhaitan and Mordremoths death respectively.

That’s the thing. Why it should be solo progression? Why is it wrong that about 20 out of the 250+ hero challenge are group challenge?

Only a portion of the hero challenge are group content and you don’t even need to complete those to progress your character. Personally, I hated most hero challenge except those that were group content. They were more fun, it gave us a reason to play together to regroup with my guild, to make event to help others. I would prefer that all of the hero challenge were like that tbh. But I know that some people prefer to do those alone so have only a portion of them (and make them optional) seem like the best compromise for me.

It’s a very fair question, and I might need some time to suss out a really good answer.

I’d rather not hit the old refrain too hard, but there is the notion that MMOs are mostly “level alone, raid together”. People expect to be able to complete objectives (builds, map completion) without dragging other people into it. I probably resent Balthazar the most out of all the HoT HPs.

But your fun with guild members and doing the challenges together is equally valid. So it’s a tough call, even though I know what I would prefer. The champ challenges do give a little reward, so perhaps there could be scaling of that as well based on the number of participants and the champ’s scaling?

There’s definitely a need to consider making them solo friendly, since not everyone has time to wait for a HP train or cavalry to call upon, and timing against meta events is rough.

So yeah, gonna think on this a bit more, but I’m definitely farming suggestions on how to best deal with it.

The solution is already in the game, anet just doesn’t use it often. Scaling. One person? no problem. Two people? no problem. 50 people? No problem. They already have this system in place, they only hardly ever use it properly.

HP’s don’t need a nerf… have you ever posted in LFG or just asked in map chat if someone needs a certain HP? I have never had to wait hours… or certainly not days to complete a HP. If you are, you are simply not trying to find a group. Also a lot of areas have HP trains that you can join.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pile_of_Guano

It’s hard enough just getting there, but then you have to fight a group of vampire beasts. I have seen a zerg try and nearly fail.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Balthazar's_Statue

The actual point is a commune but the champion can again destroy whole zergs by simply pouring on AOE fire.

Guano one is horrificaly placed due to the small window of time and I honestly thought that is the worst thing about the HOT maps.

The other one has a pretty bad fight, but as long as someone has stealth, everyone can just commune and leave without fighting,.

What small window of time? You can get there at any time of the day.

I think most people that say the SW puzzle is a breeze compared to Chalice of tears, have forgotten what SW was like before gliding. Specifically gathering golden coins before gliding. When first introduced, SW was just as difficult as Chalice of Tears, and when the next nightmare JP is introduced, we’ll all say Chalice of tears is the fun one.

I did the SW puzzle pretty quickly, worst part of it was the tunnel maze at the end. It really wasn’t that hard, just very long. It was also much more obvious where to go, and there was a buff to show you how many checkpoints you hit. Chalice of Tears is much less clear about what the real path is, and it would be pretty easy to overlook a checkpoint.

There are events required for collections in Orr that require a map to fail. Good luck finding one.

Like? Last I checked, those collections were fixed to also allow completion of the defense events.

That may be true, but the collection doesn’t make that clear. One example is that I recently did the Astralaria collections. I had to kill the Eye of Zhaitan in the promenade or w/e its called. I didn’t know I could do the HighWizard defense event, I found that out accidentally. The wiki and the collection itself don’t say this. Which reminds me I need to add that to the wiki when I get home.

The solution is simple, don’t buy black lion keys. Anet has had trash in there since they were called mystic chests and there will continue to be trash in there until the day GW2 inevitably dies. If you never get anything good you never will get anything good. Despite anets claims I am 100% positive that RNG is based on some sort of seed attached to the account at conception and that accounts are either lucky or not lucky based on it. That is why you see some people with no precursors and some who have received their 10th, 15th, or like some people I know who have received more precursors than they can count.

Assuming I did though and I did them every day I’d still take a year and a half for my cap… Who cares, it doesn’t even matter. AP isn’t that important and if you’re not capped yet you have a long way to go to be capped. So I don’t really see a reason for the cap to exist, it only serves to make the veteran players less incentivized to log in and play.

Nope, anet hates character customization so they abandoned cool things like armor skins and legendary weapons and decided to give us outfits where you can’t swap out armor pieces so we all look exactly the same.

HoT offered a couple of new weapon skins.
Outfits are meant to be simple to design, simple to apply; they aren’t meant to replace armor skins.

Since the announcement that Anet will release outfits in gemstore and armor in game we’ve received (including the ones we basically bought with HoT) Carapace, luminescent (which is just carapace), bladed, ley-stone, pre-pre cursor, mistward, and guild armor. That is 7 sets of armor in what? 3 years? 2.5 years? On the other hand I got tired counting but we’re looking at outfits somewhere in the 30s.

They have a clear interest in the gemstore, and clearly hate making armor sets. Which would be fine if GW2 wasn’t based on horizontal progression. Unfortunately it is based on horizontal progression and outfits are the opposite of that as they force you to look exactly like everybody else.

Perhaps because outfits, being exclusive with armor pieces, do not have to be compared to a plethora of other pieces to ensure compatibility.

You say that as if they do that now. I’ve been trying to mix and match stuff when it comes to armour pieces and there’s a lot that doesn’t match up right so I don’t think this is a valid comment.

ANet have said they do make such efforts, so they in fact do that now. No, they don’t always get it right. Even though outfits are a single skin, they sometimes have issues with outfits, too.

Anet also claimed that taking 6 people who took 6 months to make one legendary off of legendary weapons would speed up a team of like 70 significantly. I don’t think we should put too much stock into what anet claims.

Less Outfits, more Armor Skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dinks.2478

Dinks.2478

Outfits and armors have different niches. Outfits are gemstore items to make ANet money in between expansion sales. Armor is reward items for doing content. If it takes months to make a set of armor then no, they aren’t going to be making a set of armor with each outfit. Outfits sell well so obviously they are making ANet money and performing their stated use. I frequently look around and see people wearing an outfit.
So no, not less outfits. Maybe more armor if that can be managed but outfits are fine.

Armor Sets are GemStore items as well and I don’t mind it at all. But when was the last time ArenaNet created a new GemStore Armor Set? 2 Years ago? We got so many new
Outfits, but no new Armor Sets. There was just Armor coming back to the Store like Zodiac, Aetherblade and so on.

The reason why there haven’t been any new gemstore armors in 2 years is because they made a policy decision to only have outfits as gemstore and armor as content rewards. So therefore, new armor is not a gemstore item. Now it could be argued that they should reverse this policy and start making gemstore armor again but that’s a topic for another thread, about gemstore armor. If it does, as they say, take months to make one set of armor then you can wish and ask all you want and not see any new armor any sooner.

Claiming they removed them from the gemstore to make in-game rewards isn’t exactly true when in those 2 years we’ve seen… 5 armor sets….. 2 of which were reskins of each other and 2 of which came in the new expansion which can be seen as similar to purchasing through the gem store.

I highly disagree, it reflects the state of WvW and the reality that only a handful of servers are worth WvWing on. It reflects how poorly balanced WvW is and how poorly structured it is. It reflects how little people want to play it even when it is rewarding because the gamemode itself just isn’t good. If anything it reflects how wrong anet is to try and force people into it without fixing any of those issues.

We are all capable of choosing our attitude in how we approach anything we do. It just requires preliminary consideration.

edit: the poster I quoted above demonstrates them choosing to do a 9 hour stint, choosing to be afk while doing it, choosing to bring in a build that’d be useless and unengaging to them, and ultimately choosing to participate in such a poor way with such a poor attitude that they’re admitting wasting the valuable map space they’re taking up. Those problems stem from their choices in how they’re approaching WvW to be engaging for them… not a problem with the reward track system.

~EW

I don’t know about others, but I don’t want to shell out 10+ gold and spend time figuring out a WvW build for just 5-9 hours of game play. Even less so if I happened to not like WvW at all. Granted, I wouldn’t be afk while doing it and ibwould be actively trying to find the most efficient way for me to get the track field quickly.

However, I do think the gift of battle should require either WvW or PvP to obtain.

I actually wouldn’t mind PvPing for GoB as it is something they at least attempt to balance and seem to put an actual amount of effort into.

It took me less time to craft all of my precursors than your suggested “not a big grind”. You’re asbsolute insane if you don’t think 5-6 hours of mind numbing zerging (especially when you lose because you’re not on a bandwagon server) is acceptable. OP prefers PvE?

1) Go to EOTM
2) Board the snooze-fest k-train
3) Eventually get your gift of battle

It’s basically PvE… sadly… that or PvDoor when the enemy is asleep. I still question how you can’t stand WvW. Big fights can take your mind off the actual lengthy wait of the reward track and you’ll be helping your server buddies out, too. Plus bagsssss!

Because not everybody is on a T1 or T2 server? When you spend week after week being outnumbered and getting zerg stomped you realize how entirely reliant on numbers WvW is. You also realize that zerg fights are 99% numbers and 1% placement.

I have to grind camps and dolyaks solo to keep up even partial participation and if a zerg spots me I am dead. Its a terrible gamemode that anet as refused to balance since day 1. In the early days of WvW it was pointed out that it was not balanced and anets response was to say that it wasn’t meant to be balanced. A lot of us took that for the cop out it most definitely was. Even so I continued to WvW for a few months. All of that WvW was worthless because anet has made the reward currency from then worthless with the badge change.

Then maybe it’s time to move servers or find a guild so you can make things easier for yourself? Afterwards, you can always transfer back.

If you are worried about participation I believe if you hit the max participation you can just wait it out somewhere; SMC for example and watch TV or something whilst it ticks away at 100% giving full participation. Lazy, yes, but it works.

You are right in a particular area – WvW has terrible balance, especially when it comes to population balance and numbers. It’s difficult to balance a game regarding coverage when it’s a global one played 24/7. Sometimes players need to shift around to help their own selves… it’s a shame it also leads to bandwagoning etc. Nothing is perfect, this is sad.

T1 and T2 servers are always full, not to mention transfer are expensive.

Also you need to stay active or you’ll lose participation, which I understand is not forgiving in WvW. As far as if you could AFK which I’m sure you can why would you make a change that encourages that?

ability to do their job efficiently and timely.

You sound like my boss…is this a game or a job we’re talking about here?

Of course it is a game, you’ll never hear me saying otherwise; but there is a big difference between players who commit to the tasks at hand, and do what is required for the event to succeed, and those who either go AFK (usually in the most crucial part, the towers), or don’t even read the squad/map chat for instructions doing exactly the opposite of what their squad leader has asked them to.

People are bored and tired, the metas are repetitive and you have to do them on anets schedule. I have all of the chak weapons, auric weapons, machined weapons, I am almost done with the order backpacks. All I have left is a massive DS grind for crystalline ore so I can finish all of the guild weapons/armors. I might even just skip those as once you finish these collections there is no real reason to do the metas. The leyline sparks, auric dust, and airship oils pile up to an absurd amount and have no use, the chak eggs and auric ingots and reclaimed plates pile up with no use, the currency piles up with no use…. Maybe a lot of people are just burnt out like me.

There is a very specific point you have to pass by to get it I think, I had to run around up there a bit to get it to trigger for me back in the day.

Eternity vs sunrise

Eternities day time aura is like an orangeish blueish fire aura and Sunrise has a different type of aura, its more of just a blue light. However in the case of Twilight vs Eternity, Eternity has a much more prominent darker black aura than Twilight’s weak little grayish black aura.

You need to use LFG to join the active meta map about 20 minutes before. Any later and you’re probably not getting in.

Most likely they are just LFGing into more active maps. Its a double edged sword. It allows people to easily get into active maps, however it also leaves a lot of maps mostly empty.

I think the real question is to know if, as player you would have preferred to have a new Legendary weapon, maybe 2, with last content update or if you prefer to have had a new map, and in the mean time these living world events (bandits, anomalies…).

Because the way it was presented was they made a trade-off between Legendary journeys and living world events. Of course as player, instant consumer of content, we demand both, but reason must sometimes win.
As for OP suggestion, I think the topic of legendary weapon has been too long debated between crafting and dropping precursors. Now it has been decided (I’d say tha majority of the community has) that one should earn precursor by himself and not simply buy it from TP. I’m sure that if they would have created this system since launch, all precursors would have been account bound since the beginning because that is what most players asked : a unique weapon that show your dedication to the game and all its activities rather than something you can get by using your credit card.
So in the end having unique awesome skins (chainwhip sword or stormbow) through gems and other through active gameplay (new Legendary) is a good middle option (I know nobody likes compromises) but now they should be careful not to release too much awesome gem skins in comparison to Legendary weapons….

The legendary team had 6 people on it, 6. 6 people aren’t making or breaking the new content. Especially when they have like 100 people working on the next expansion when this one is still incomplete. You don’t move resources from the current incomplete expansion when you have 100 others you can tap into.

I do not like HoT and I’m happy that it is not netting a lot of money because:

- it destroyed dungeons
- it took away fractal rewards from everyone without the expansion
- it imbalanced PvP
- removed guild upgrades that guilds already had
- made the guild halls too much of a money and item investment for a small guild to ever be able to have it all
- went back on their promisses with the legenary weapons.

Full rant in my signature.

There’s a lot of truth here. The only thing I disagree with is the dungeon comment. I don’t think HoT destroyed dungeons.

But its not untrue that HoT destroyed dungeons, they only recently made dungeons rewarding again (and really not that rewarding still) and they still haven’t recovered fully from the damage that was done when anet neutered them into total wastes of time.

I just want the legendary weapons I kittening paid for. They still haven’t delivered what they sold with HoT.

If they released the new weapons as drops not collections I’d be fine with that.

This.

Whether I make one or not really isn’t the point. If a company tells you they are going to deliver something, they should deliver it.

Really? So Nevermore and Astralaria was in the game before HoT? Or they are not legendary weapons, since you see Anet haven’t released any with HoT, according to you. Yes, new legendary weapons are currently not worked on, but that does not mean that we wont see any in the future, yet. Also, as far as I remember from interviews and reviews pre-HoT, they never actually stated -how- many new legendary weapons will get released.

@OP: What old system? Having to wait for a lucky drop or to grind gold to buy the precursor from the TP? No, thanks. Its way better now, when you have to actually do content and work towards a guaranteed precursor in the end.

Arenet said they’d provide a full set of legendary weapons, that would come out at short intervals. Their words, not mine.

Then Mike O’Brien said that they would putting the legendary weapons on indefinite hold, which for most people would read cancelled. There is no longer a team working on the new legendaries are all, even the four have been delivered.

By my count that’s only 25% of the legendary weapons that were supposed to come with the expansion. If you wanted a legendary sword or great sword, you’re just out of luck I guess.

They dident say full set, they said 16 since they dont want to do any more underwater weapons

16 is a full set, underwater weapons haven’t been made for years, note every black lion weapon set since like forever ago.

Also yes, anet broke a lot of promises with HoT and a full set of legendaries was one of them. I don’t know how they expect to sell us a second expansion (which the majority of their devs are working on right now) when they haven’t even finished the last one we bought.

I did HOPE 1-3 in about 8 hours on the first day it was released, then it took about a week to get HOPE 4 done because of bugged events. But with everything working mostly right now I’d say probably could do all 4 in less than a day.

So... About 9 months after release...
