Yeah, I mean it makes sense, but honestly I’m not willing to read the whole naming policy (the things I agree to without reading…, i accept any repercussions though) but I know an old game I played also banned any famous names so if you slipped one through they’d also force a change if caught. So I’m curious if it’s just the whole terrorist thing (which I do find sad, it’s letting the terrorists win!) or if it’s also the whole “c’mon come up with your own thing”.

Nah. The blame can be squarely aimed at the terrorists. There are that many Norse gods running around that if a name-change was forced then I’d imagine the game would lose a fair chunk of goodwill.

Absolutely, but would naming your character Jesus be ok? What about Allah? Muhammad? Vishnu? Jehovah? Satan? At what point are these type of figures ok and what point are they bad? What makes Thor/Odin ok but probably not some of the others? Just that no one has a fit?

As far as Jesus. It’s a VERY common name.
It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Jesus is “the Lord is salvation”. Short form of Joshua, from the Hebrew name Jehoshua.

The appended “Christ” is what makes the difference. Even in His time the name Jesus was very common. Which is why He was referred to as Jesus of Nazareth, or The Christ.

Even if somebody named their character Jesus Christ nobody should care because it is none of their business.

Gold Transfer Changes

There really are very few situations where you would need to store extra gold in a guild bank and have to retrieve more than 500g at a time.

But we’re talking about 500g(max) not at a time, but across a week of playing. And once you take the money out and put it back in – the same gold will count again the next time you take it out. So even if you only own 50g (but take it out of your guild bank 10 times in 7 days) you will hit the limit.

In what situation would you need to take out 50g, and put it back in at least 10 times in a weeks time?
In what situation does the average player need to remove amounts of gold multiple times a week?

I can see maybe some potential issues with larger guilds doing raffles and such, but that can easaily be worked around by allowing a few more people to withdraw some gold to send to the winner. And the winner might have to wait a bit to get the full prize. But its more of a minor inconveniece than anything, and one that can be circumvented with items instead of gold.

(I’ll edit my post, I misspoke about the time frame).

Example: Putting a single bid for a precursor on the trading post. Guess what, you can’t do that now if you didn’t plan for it a week in advance that you would have the gold when the precursor price in within range. … I could think of a hundred other examples.

However, if ANet also introduced a “restricted gold” amount in your wallet (i.e. in-game interface to divide readily accessible gold for purchases behind a secondary password on the account) then at least this part is alleviated.

BUT the Gold Sellers will simply move on to Gold-equivalent digital assets like Globs of Ectoplasm (or per Reddit, Silver Doubloons or Lodestones which I hadn’t thought of prior) and dodge around the issue. All of these items are fairly stable and relatively liquid in the economy. A semi-sophisticated Gold Seller will even offer what items you want the gold-value asset in.

That example while possible, is extremely unlikey for a large portion of players.
As gaile said:

This change will impact very, very few players. In fact, in previous statistical reviews, the percentage of players who would be impacted would be in the low single digits.

So instead of tossing all your gold into the guild bank, keep it in your wallet. It’s safer there than in a guild bank anyway. If you get hacked, which is a concern, they can do an account roll back, but anything in the guild bank that was removed cannot and will not be replaced.
Again those situations are more hypothectical and unlikely than anything.

As far as gold sellers. Why haven’t they done that now? or previously?
This system will certainly curtail ther efforts when dealing with gold transactions. Who would want to pay a third party, which is a dumb idea anyway, and not be able to recieve what they purchased for awhile? Or be only able to purchase 500g a week? If gold sellers move to items, why would anyone want to spend the time to take the items and sell them on the TP? It’s more of a hassle for the buyer. Plus, with the flucuating prices of the TP, the player isn’t going to be getting the amount they paid for. (As well as a perma ban for being stupid)

Also this allows Anet to better track down people who are buying large amounts of gold from gold sellers. Player buys 4000g from a seller. But it would take 8 weeks to get the full amount. Anet can spot a player recieving 500g a week each week for 8 weeks…seems a little suspicious to me…

What is “low single digits”? 3%? 4%? 5%? It doesn’t matter, any percentage of the population being specifically targeted and screwed over in place of actually encouraging account security and competitive pricing is a lazy fix in my opinion. I don’t see how this system is going to reduce account theft. A secure account will never be compromised. Gold sellers aren’t hacking account by sending people in-game mail. There is no information for them through that process that they couldn’t get right here through the forums. I guess I don’t really understand how this is helping anybody.

It might discourage people from selling items without the TP, and I guess some people might like that. I don’t know why people care so much about stuff like that, don’t want to buy it? Don’t. Complaining about spam? Maybe we should just get a trade chat that we can disable then.

Please bring back the bunny ears!

I agree, been waiting for them since the wardrobe came out. They were lame town clothes prior to that so I didn’t care that I didn’t buy them when I had the chance but now we need them. There are a bunch of old school town clothes head pieces they removed long before the wardrobe that they should bring back.

Basically they have to rework precision to offer a smaller increase in crit, and ferocity to offer a significantly smaller increase in crit damage. Basically precision should have soft caps for your crit percentage so it’s seen as not worth you’re effort if you have any traits that increase your crit.

Healing needs to be buffed majorly, to actually give it a point to using it. Also boons and condition system needs an overhaul. All damage condition should stack, burn poison not just bleed. So to make other conditions worth using and not just bleed being the only good condi to use.

The core condition/boon system is partially why power builds are meta. If you’re a condi player it’s common occurrence for your dots to drop off and be replaced by a power user with no plus to condition.

However, I think they’re doing good steps in eliminating the meta. If you look at it, meta is only meta on paper. In reality nobody really uses zerker gear all the time. Bosses like Teq can’t be crit at all and thus make zerker gear completely useless.

Buffing healing wouldn’t really make it useful. The fact is that healing isn’t really needed. You can survive most fights without healing once.

Eliminating the “meta” isn’t really a thing that can be done. The Meta will always be the Meta, what the Meta consists of will change, but there will always be an optimal way to do something and people will always do it and others will always complain about it. On a side note, I wear my zerker gear at Teq because I don’t get hit and the extra health/toughness isn’t worth carrying an extra set of armor to me.

Also yes, Conditions would be a good alternative if the condition system wasn’t fundamentally flawed with its limited stack system and overall inferior damage.

Why don't we have this tool in game ?!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dinks.2478

Because Anet is afraid that people would feel sad when they realize their clerics gear makes them do half the damage of a properly geared player. The fact is, dps meters are useful but too much of the community refuses to accept the current meta and without people willing to accept optimization they will whine about anything that will make calling them out for being carried easier.

The only person objectifying females are the feminists in here who think that women don’t enjoy dressing up as much as the men who enjoy looking at it. A woman is free to dress however they want to in game or in real life. Telling people they cannot dress how they want is saying they’re not competent enough to make their own decisions. Every weight class, race and gender should have options to be as skimpy or as conservative as they want and all the prudes and wanna-be egalitarians can go in the corner and think long and hard about how important their time really is that they’d rather complain about people expressing themselves and playing the game how they want than just play the game how they want and ignore the people they don’t agree with.

@Wylf: The Barbarians use to charge into battle naked because they learned that they were less likely to die from wounds that way. Clothing being stabbed into a stab wound for example led to higher risk of infection. They didn’t understand why at the time but they sure noticed the trend and reacted to it.

PvE is a clash of zerker Meta users who just want to have fun, zerker meta users who try to force it onto you, non-zerker meta users who make their own parties and have fun, and non-zerker meta users who join zerker meta parties just to kitten up their runs. Guild wars 2 moving towards the holy trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dinks.2478

Dinks.2478

I get the feeling that lots of people here are instantly spitting out “holy trinity holy trinity” whenever someone’s not satisfied with the status quo. The thing is though that this isn’t about holy trinity, it’s about almost every other build but damage, being it via boons, conditions or just pure dps being not viable enough, to a point were skilling that way would be detriment to your team and yourself in every major aspect of the game and it makes you wonder why certain attribute combinations on items are even there when Arena.Net seemingly doesn’t want dedicated “healers” or “tanks” – not even in the classical way, but in the GW2 sense.

And Lazaar, while it’s true that the meta right now is called support/control/damage there is no dedicated support/control/damage in the sense that someone skills fully into control or fully into damage. All three categories are hybrids of damage dealers + team utility. So your point’s really moot.

My point isn’t moot, because Guild Wars 2 is designed with the idea in mind that everyone can fill all three roles. Also, there is people in this thread that do want a hard trinity in guild wars 2, don’t pretend they don’t exist.

if that’s the case then why is it then only a small group of like 3 professions can do the roles effectively, can a necro do just as much DPS as a warrior?

the necro can do just as much dps as a warrior, he just doesnt have a lot of team synergy, and doesnt fit well into the way teams are handling dungeon encounters on a speed level.

warriors arent considered the best dps for some time now, its more about the utility, variability, and teamplay they can bring to the table, than their dps.

in fact the dungeon meta is more based on teamplay and support than highest straight up damage for a class.

necro doesnt play well with others is what it boils down to.

No necro can’t do as much dps as a warrior. It will do around 10% less dps. But your point is true. Except thief and Elementalist, most other profession do around the the same dps +/-15%. Its the utilities they bring that make them useful of not.

and that 10% doesn’t really seem to matter in most content as it would just take 1/5 of 10% more time

As stated it isn’t the 10% damage that matters. Necros are a selfish class and don’t offer anything useful to the party be it defensive or offensive. Example: Guardians do inferior DPS to most classes but have blocks, swiftness, blinds, reflects, etc.

Guild wars 2 moving towards the holy trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dinks.2478

Dinks.2478

Okay youre clearly misreading my statements, im saying having a healing meta not necessarily a holy trinity. Secondly no one is pushing anyone and you dont represent the entire player base as there are alot of people that would enjoy playing a healing class and The healing signet as worthless as you always take more incoming damage than it heals per second.

That’s what dodging and moving around is for.

I play an elementalist. I don’t have a healing signet like warriors do. I have a signet that grants me healing per cast, but that’s less than a warriors per second. And warrior signet is active while stunned, etc. Elementalists aren’t. Because we aren’t casting.

If I’m actually moving around and dodging, I rarely need a heal. And if I do, my heal covers me. And I don’t use my healing signet. Because I prefer my glyph.

And even if I’m not moving around and dodging like I should, my heal still covers me.

So no, I’m not seeing this need for a dedicated healer.

Yea thats easy for you to say when youre speaking from a ranged dps opinion, you get to safely dps a boss where as a melee dps is standing in the hit box to dps a boss and cant get out of large aoe fast enough.

What kind of Ele stands in ranged? Have you ever done a dungeon? An Ele standing in ranged in a melee fight in my party would be kicked for screwing up the stack. Guardian, Ele, Warrior, Ranger, Thief, Mesmer no matter what I am playing I am in the stack.

I just can beat this kittening kitten

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The rest of us who didn’t do it when the cheats were possible are now stuck with a game of chance. It is upsetting to see so many people not give a kitten about other players just because they already got theirs.

So if anybody has any useful input aside from “L2P” it would be appreciated.

2/12/2015 WvW report on Unbalanced Match-ups

in WvW

Posted by: Dinks.2478

Dinks.2478

How many of those who suggest server merges are actually in the lower tiers? How many of those are in T1 and T2, where that suggestion has very little effect on them?

What if I suggested we disband all T1 and T2 servers and spread them out into the lower tiers. I’m sure a lot of T3 and below wouldn’t mind this “fix” as it doesn’t damage their own servers. Does that mean this solution should even be entertained? Probably not.

You have to be careful with metrics and interpreting metrics. I don’t think counting forum posts to determine popularity of suggestions is a very good idea.

The match-ups are only broken because of the actions of the T1 and T2 servers who have bandwagoned into the top tier servers. So I don’t think we should care how they feel about anything when they are the ones responsible. It would be like asking a thief if he is okay with his own sentence before sending him to jail.

Okay, since everybody here has overcomplicated the kitten out of these answers I’ll try.

Zerker is a stat set, it is the Berserker armor stats. Power, Precision, Ferocity. Some builds are 6/6/ but most aren’t . Most meta builds are built around optimizing team support and damage. So for example a Phalanx Strength warrior won’t hit as hard as a full dps warrior but would be capable of stacking 25 minute and 25 vulnerability. A guardian might run a utility build to shorten their wall of reflections cooldown, etc.

Active defense are things like blocks, dodges, reflects, condition removal, etc.

Yes, it is that easy, all you need to do is learn the enemies tells and in general you can avoid taking damage 90% of the time.

Most of these people seem pretty adamant that they are not doing anything wrong and that the tp is waste of their time. I myself could not find any confirmation to one way or the other :S.

It hasn’t been stated. They’re making that assumption based on the lack of a direct response as to whether it is okay or not. No they didn’t. It was never stated whether using the LFG to sell items rather than on the TP was or wasn’t LFG Abuse. All they did was give their position on player to player trading.

Guild Wars 2, even with the NPE, is overwhelming for new players, specially the ones that never played a MMO before. Know why? Lack of better tooltip, a proper tutorial and explanation within the game.

A veteran player won’t think about this anymore, but might I ask how you found out about different tiers of gears, crafting, stats, lack of the usual trinity and etc? You had to ask around or search up for such things right? A new player in the MMO category will have a hard time before they can grasp all that.

When I see a new player struggling around when I am leveling or mapping, I help them and then tell if they have any doubts, to befriend me and ask whenever they want. As it is, I get whispers asking how mechanics, stats, professions and most of all, how crafting works, because looking only within the game, they can’t figure out how to maximize the craft experience without a direct information about it.

No, I learned all of that within the first hour, during beta when nobody else knew what the kitten was going on either. It isn’t that hard.

I know I sound all rah-rah when I say “Use the TP” but I’m a player too, and I pay the fees, and darn it, it’s a small price to pay — literally — to avoid the ripoffs that happen when someone decides to take a risk to avoid the fees.

Whether it’s the two-copper piece of junk or the legendary of your dreams, please sell it through the safe, secure, and intended methods offered within the game.

Here is the problem with these two sentences. Instead of instituting a secure player to player trading option, similar to the one in GW1 Anet forces us to use the TP as our only secure trading option. The cost of listing a legendary can be as high as 200g. Now if you get undercut a bunch of times now you’re just twiddling your thumbs and hoping it eventually sells and if it doesn’t sell then you’re stuck eating that cost and potentially throwing away another 200g. I don’t even mind the 15% TP tax, but I’d much prefer it be a flat 15% selling fee and there be no listing fee.

I am glad that this is finally available to be seen in the game. But perhaps it should be swapped with the unlocked/account bonuses tile. In general it seems way too big to be sitting at the top. I can’t even see my recently completed/nearly completed achievements at a glance. I have to scroll down to see those and my account bonuses.

Wish race elite would be viable

I wish elite skills in general would be viable. In GW1 you built your whole build around your elites. In GW2 your elite is a tacked on part of your build and in most cases you won’t even use it because it is either useless or so situational it only has a use once in a blue moon.

[bug] carapace chest box unlock

Yeah, this RNG game is annoying me now. I fought the boss a ton of times today and not one box other than the one from the achievement. I have all the achievements and everything but can’t get the last two chest boxes.

A five week break for 1 episode?

You people keep using this nonsense excuse when the reality is that it is a poor move resulted from poor planning. We just had 5 weeks of nothing and will probably have 2-3 months of nothing after this. Yet people will keep claiming an imaginary 2 week content release schedule regardless.

I had loads of stuff to do during that time.
With Wintersday and quite a bit of new rewards and so on. Claiming there was nothing is false.

I also question if you would actually prefer to have to potentially wait weeks for potential game-breaking bugs being fixed due to people not being at work, if they released it before the christmas break?

Even when they are at work we get stuck waiting weeks for game breaking bugs. Your point is invalid. And no, wintersday was a repeat of last year. There was nothing to do, please don’t make kitten up.

Molten or Watchwork Mining Pick?

I find it really annoying that one of the picks is better than the rest in game; they really should have been all cosmetic. And the sprockets are kinda significant. But yea, I got the watchwork and won’t bother with the others.

It’s sorta unfortunate.

It is extra annoying to those of us who bought the molten picks back in the day and then the watchwork ones came out and was basically a big screw you.

I just want a way to be able to open the daily login window again so I can see where I am in relation to finishing/what rewards are coming up next.

If you go to the Hero panel then to daily, you can pull up the panel that shows all your options for that day and it shows which you’ve done. If you select the ones you plan to do they will be on your UI and disappear as you do them.

What… no this doesn’t do at all what I asked for. I want to be able to open the daily login window again. You simply cannot access it once you close it.

A five week break for 1 episode?

They did wait with the ep8 release because srsly what logic do you find with launching the concluding episode when a majority of the player population is busy with irl holidays?
It is the exact same reason why games are not being launched in the middle of the summer when everyone is busy with other stuff.
