Meta is optimal. Break the current one and a new one will rise. Then soon we’ll just see posts like “How to fix the <newest> Meta”. People are so dense. There is nothing to fix.

Not true!

Think of Gw1 (if you played it). There were common “Meta” builds, but team compositions could change as variations were accepted more readily. In PvE the class you played dictated the “Meta” you’d have to follow if running a full Hero Team. This meant that there were “Meta Builds”, but this left choices for the player! As long as they were using the “Meta” or variations of the “Meta” they would typically be fine – the main difference is that they got to choose how to play and what to play while still being a part of the “Meta”.

What are you talking about? In GW1 you either ran Meta or you ran your own build. You can do the same thing in GW2, you just won’t be optimal. I’m tired of this lazy complaint. You don’t want to run zerker? You don’t think you can survive? You want to play another way? Do all of those things, its all viable, its just not optimal. Leave people who want to do things optimally alone. It is getting tired.

You can’t have challenging and open world. It doesn’t work. You end up having to make a faux instance by ferrying as many good people you can in and hoping you don’t get stuck with too many of the lowest common denominator players who drag down open world fights. I’ve seem Marionette fail because too many undergeared, unprepared, below average players got put into the same platform and couldn’t do the fight. I still see people in Vinewrath who can’t figure out to fill the beehive, or to run into the white triangle. These fights have to by definition be dumbed down to allow for those people to be carried, for lack of a better word.

Actually they are a minority by default. If the majority agreed with you it wouldn’t be a problem because the Majority would be able to complete the events if the minority was just sitting around trying to make it fail. As it stands a minority wants to complete the events and they can’t because they’re a minority and don’t have enough people to do so.

It kind of doesn’t make much sense why this would take so long. The items already exist, the skins already exist, PvP tracks already exist. It can probably be set up in like 15 minutes. Everything has to be a big project with Anet. Even the simplest little Quality of Life changes need to be in giant patches for some reason. Maybe I can wrong but I don’t know why they need to make everything so kitten complicated. Even something as simple as revealing the new elite specializations requires months of mystery and breaks.

The majority of the players there wanted to play it a different way. Surely the majority shouldn’t have to do it one way because a small group want to do it a different way. Is it unfair? Yes.. But that is life.

Because the majority wants something everyone else should be denied the content? I say the people who deny others the content deserve a 72h ban.

Maybe Anet should make content more logical. Where completing an event is more profitable than failing it. For the players, choosing the most profitable path is logical course of action.

For the general whine over this or any player interaction, go find another layer then. You can log in and out of the character or use guesting to find another layer. If you don’t like what the majority of players are doing, find somewhere else where you like what the players are doing.

Exactly! And maybe They should give us traits for completing a defense event as well.
I tried for 6 hours…6 hours..to get the trait for killing the Risen Wizard…i changed maps..did everything i could. Every…single…time…nobody would let it fail..so much fun, i just want that trait…

Maybe you should buy the trait from the NPC (even the worst money making methods make more than 10g in 6 hours) or wait for the trait update coming before HoT.

So ban the entire game then. Ban everybody in the Raid discussion forum who says people who want raids shouldn’t have them. Ban everybody who thinks Zerker should disappear. Ban everybody who thinks healing should disappear. Ban anybody who wants to fail the event as well as everybody who wants to complete it. At some point somebody has to get something while somebody else doesn’t. At that point you look to the majority. If more people decide they don’t want to do an event then the minority will fail. That is by design because a small portion of people shouldn’t be able to overrule the wishes of a larger portion of people.

If you want the trait that badly you can go spend like 2 gold on it. You could have easily obtained enough gold in 6 hours.

There are basically two opinions here.

1. I want raids, it will benefit me and harm nobody else who doesn’t want them.

2. I don’t want raids, I hope the people that do want them don’t get them even though it doesn’t have anything to do with me and I can simply not do them and continue doing the stuff I do enjoy.

1 just wants content they would enjoy more and 2 just wants to be selfish jerks.

Look, Raids have their place, just not in this game. It will splinter resources ultimately dropping the game quality, and fundamentally change this game into a gear grind. Add the fact that it is a small minority of people here in this game wanting this type of content serves to confirm it is not the right thing for Anet to do. do we kitten off 40% of the population to cater to 10%? Not likely… their revenues will drop right along with players, and you will end up with a 10% population based game mode, and a game in the red with developement layoffs eventually killing it like SWG did. as more layoffs occur, your preciuos raid content will suffer a slow death.

Not one single person in this entire thread has asked for a gear grind. We asked for raids. They are not the same thing. And adding stuff to a game doesn’t drop the quality of the game. Get out of here with your false sense of superiority and your kittenty strawman arguments because they’re flat out insulting.

EDIT: It’s not cut-and-dried either way, and we need to get over that. It’s a complex decision and people have a tendency to see all the advantages and none of the disadvantages of the things they personally want.

It’s also a false equivalency. One side is saying, “This is content I want and I’d like it included along side the type of content the rest of you want.” The other side is saying, “You can’t have this content because I don’t want it.”

Not. The. Same. Thing.

Exactly, its not the same thing at all. One side is absolutely more validated than the other because one side wants more options and one side wants to limit the other side.

It doesn’t get much simpler than, don’t do raids if you don’t want to do raids. It will have zero affect on the quality of the game outside of the raid. You’ll still have your button mashing zerg fests. You’ll still have 5 man dungeons. You’ll still have PvP. You’ll still have WvW. Nothing is going to disappear because they added new stuff.

I am sorry if I am coming across as harsh but they’re being equally if not worse to people who want raids. I’m not going to sit here while somebody tries to sabotage one of the few things that might actually revitalize this game for no reason other than they don’t like it.

Maybe it is because you’re one of the people being carried and you’re afraid you’ll need to step it up when we’re in raids or maybe it is because you’re unfairly linking the word raid to a bad experience in a completely different game. Either way it is childish, selfish, and your entire argument is meaningless. Adding more stuff to a game isn’t removing resources from the game its the opposite.

So instead of educating yourself on the topic you’re discussing you’re going to discard what was already discussed and then blame others for calling you out on not knowing what you’re talking about?

The reward for raids can be the same thing we get from everywhere else. New skins. This whole game is built around skins. The concept of rewarding players for completing difficult content with skins shouldn’t be too hard for people to grasp.

New skins; okay but we already have methods for new skins which is simply dungeons and fractals. They are all unique skins that are rewarded for completing them.

If you deem them challenging or not, why are we getting more and more content offering basically the same reward?
Is there an actual need for content that only rewards the same as other content? Not really?

Fractals rewards:

Asc Rings
Asc Weapon Boxes
Asc Armor Boxes
Fractal Weapon Skins
Fractal Tonic

Dungeons reward:

Armor skins/full armor sets
Weapon skins/full weapon sets

EDIT Yes I can see the want for more people instances. I have played many games with more manned instances. 8man/12/24/48 But I can’t personally see how they are going to work in GW2 and why there is a need for them outside of “some” people would like them.

These would obviously be new skins… How is that even a question? They would be unique rewards to the raids.

Actually it is extremely simple. We want content for more than 5 people that isn’t a broken an imbalanced gamemode like WvW where anet hasn’t even made an attempt balance server populations. Leading to servers like mine getting 8 weeks of fighting servers with 4 times our population until we get pushed down far enough that we spend a couple of weeks fighting servers with a quarter of our population until we go back up and start the whole thing over again.

There is zero negative drawback to adding more game options for people who want it. You don’t have to play every game mode the game offers. I know people who have never PvPed because PvP isn’t their thing. I know people who don’t PvE. I know people who don’t WvW. And just like that it is okay if you’re a person who doesn’t want to do Raids. But others do, and we have nothing else to do. There is nothing else for guilds to do. We get missions once a week which we finish in 30 minutes and then… we can do content with 4 other people in our guild and tell the other 495 that maybe next time? Even 10-12 man content would allow us all to play with more of our guild members at the same time.

Many GW2 players actually want

Yep, and the argument usually progresses to there. It’ll never be a good as your beloved game, no matter what, it’s just not “WoW” in the end. Same as happened to many once good games. Some people are happy playing two totally different games, others… cannot. It’s a promise that has wrecked a many great ships upon the rocks. Alas…

What does having raids have to do with turning a game into WoW? GW2 is nothing like WoW and neither is raiding. Raiding in games has existed long before WoW and will exist long after WoW. It is almost like people want actual content in GW2. Just because you’re content to join an open world map and spam 1 doesn’t mean everybody else is. If that is what you want to do then do it. But stop being selfish and trying to keep others from doing what they want to do as well.

So you don’t want people to play how they want too, but you want to be able to do it.

While I don’t care if you enjoy RPing publically, especially innocent RPing(I’ve walked into some houses/building in GW2 and uh… some things that probably should have been happening in party chat or whispers was going on). I also as a player find myself jumping around on things all the time. Running laps around cities, climbing up walls, spamming skills, and usually I don’t even pay attention to anybody around me.

At the end of the day, if somebody else unrelated to you is ruining your day in a non-destructive way then it is nobodies fault but your own. Grow a thicker skin, block and report them if they’re saying rude, offensive or mocking things, and overall just enjoy what you’re doing and let others enjoy what they are doing.

It means that everybody who runs a revenant will eventually end up gravitating to the best stances and weapons and be exactly the same. There will be no ability to tweak utilities.

With that said they haven’t let us use every weapon available to the Revenant yet and haven’t really given us any of the good stances. We have a so-so condi stance which as we know isn’t good and a so-so support stance. Plus Revenants feel very underpowered right now because they are forcing celestial gear on us.

Raids and dungeons are added to keep people interested in the game. Btw they were parts of all pve mmos since the beginning so yeah. It is another game mode not a replacement of openworld.

Raids in other mmos was there to squeeze money from sub fees thats why I am alergic to word “raids”

Well… everything in mmo with sub fee is made to squeeze money from you. You should be allergic to mmos in general.

GW2 and GW1 never had raid and never squeezed money out of people.

The problem with the word raid is that it is associated with the endless geargrind. This endless geargrind is the core of the sequeezing money tactic. (stopping means you slack behind, and will never recover).

That is why I asked how you think coordinated group content would fit in GW2. I dropped the name cause of the bad vibe and I truly think copying that format 1 on 1 to this game is wrong.

There has actually been added a lot that goes into the direction of coordinated group play.

Teq.
triple wurm
guild boss mode for those two and the karka queen
guild missions, rushes, bounty’s etc.
personal story achievement challenges.

So I truly think there is added enough and it gets more then enough attention. The only problem with this content is the same as with all other formats in the game. It doesn’t reward as much. The reason is that GW2 doesn’t want the geargrind.

tl,dr: there is content very simular to raid allready in the game and people don’t do it. So the only reason Raids in other games are popular is cause of the reward/geargrind. Do we need a game that holds our hand in what we should or should no do? or do we want a game that gives you much more freedom??

There is nothing remotely similar to raids in GW2.

Those fights you mentioned are all open world content where any Tom, kitten and Harry can join in and ruin the fight for you. Doing Teq? 3 guys who don’t know what they’re doing jump on a turret and won’t get off or listen? You lose. Doing TTW? Hey looks like those 3 decided to finish the decap early! Guess we lose. Karka Queen? Well this one is just nerfed to hell and wouldn’t really be considered coordinated content imo because any group of 10 people can burn it down in minutes.

So yes, Raids would add something to the game for guilds to do that doesn’t isolate the guild into small dungeon groups. Half of my guild is inactive due to nothing to do. Not only are we in a content drought because anet cannot balance giving us stuff to do while making HoT, but the content we do have has been grinded to the bone. I find myself logging in for dailies, doing a few dungeons and logging off. Once a week I log in for a TTW kill because its the only content in the game that requires any level of coordination and that is just to make sure we all decap within a minute of each other.

Medium Armor Disparity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dinks.2478

Ok this is something that has been bugging me for a bit and I know it will continue to bother me into HoT as well. Medium armors have two set themes, Cowboy and Ninja. Cowboy can fit for Engineers all fine and Ninjas works for Thieves but Rangers are kinda left on the outskirts of this, they can kinda pull the cowboy look but it doesn’t really fit in with the whole “One with Nature and all her creatures” vibe that it should. Plus with HoT bringing the Druid it brings even more of a “I don’t wanna have a cowboy nature mage” feeling to it, plus I"m not the biggest fan of Norns males either since they have reduced animation fluidity (compare Warrior sword 1 on a Human Male versus a Norn Male). As it stands Norns Predatory armor is the only set that fits a Wildman vibe to me (for medium armor), and its racially exclusive. Could we get an armor set for the other races that fits the kinda feel of Tarzan meets shaman? Something based off of the Aztec Jaguar warriors would also be cool, since it would fit the wild ranger aspect while still being kinda thief like (the warriors were famous for ambushing people from the trees to capture and sacrifice to their gods). Plus we have heavy armors that take from historical locations in the Gladiator & Pitfighter sets so why not borrow from another culture for our mediums. (Yes I know some Charr maybe offended by the idea of wearing large predatory cat skins).

I just saw the overview of this Reaper specialization for the Necromancer. It looks very interesting and reminds me of the Dervish character I had from Nightfall. Loved that class. Anyway, this specialization looks to be interesting however, I did notice a few things.

1. Why are all these specialization Melee specific? Necromancers by design do not really have a place in the front of combat. (It one of the main reasons they have minions to fight for them)
2. They seem to be slowing down the skills that make this class truly interesting to play like conditionmancer and Minion Master. The reaper doesn’t seem to complement any of these.

Basically the way that I am seeing things so far is that they are going to make everything Melee class and we are going to be going the Tanking build with the Berserker/Zojia Builds. This part kinda stinks, its removing the most interesting parts of the game and making this more hack and slash. My opinion is if we keep going hack and slash were going to loose the people that want to be healers, want to be casters, want to do AOE over time and those that want to be support. I’m not certain how this is going to take off.

First of all, Power necro has always been a thing. Second of all, Now power necros have more weapon options. Third of all, Zerker stuff has nothing to do with being a “tanking build”.

Open world zergfest content is stupid because if the encounter is too hard you need to organize with large guilds and hope you can get enough of your people into a map that the pugs who refuse to organize with you don’t ruin the fight. If it is too easy you just get people auto attack afking.

It hasn’t really been mentioned at all. Not one single hint or anything has been said about new dungeons since the announcement of HoT. Should us dungeoneers be expecting anything new or are we being left out of this expansion?

Sure you can maintain swiftness if you use a staff and retreat properly, but what some of you are suggesting is that we sacrifice a useless weapon for a useless one like guardian staff while other classes can just pick a trait or one utility. Guardians have already been shot on with their reveal. Terrible name, useless skills, mediocre weapon skills, and left in the dust as far as speed goes.

This was one of anets biggest mistakes. They limit you to 500 gold withdrawal from the guild bank and from in game mail. Thats not 500 each either thats combined. It is sad.
