Yes you have to have scrapper to equip the hammer. Elite specializations work slightly different now than they did before. They kinda have two adept minor traits. The normal one, which is ‘function gyro’ for the scrapper and then a special adept minor trait which says something like: ‘you can equip x weapon and use such and so utility skills’. If you watched the stream you could see a minor trait icon within the big specialization icon which is that latter special adept minor trait.

Reduce the amount of Mastery Points gained?

Diovid.9506

It is also possible, if not probable, that there will be fewer mastery points available than what is needed to unlock all of the masteries. At least on one character. This actually makes some sense when you think about it, as masteries are account wide and it encourages you to make heavy use of your alts to get them all.

If anything, there is probably just enough mastery points to be gathered by one character to fill most, if not all, of the masteries for one track, plus a few points which may be one off rewards for the entire account.

Probably most, as this would also mean getting all of your alts to grab them all as well and it can be set to divide the HoT matery points to all for all masteries to be unlocked with the base number of characters for an account. Since that’s five characters, that would imply a minimum of 16 points. Of course, that’s if those five characters do everything needed to unlock all of the masteries across the account.

Thus, the issue at hand suddenly becomes much more workable. The devs have to make it manageable and workable, they don’t have to make it entirely easy, especially since some of the mastery points are almost certain to be tied to difficult content, or having to go really out of your way to get.

All mastery points are already account-bound.

Reduce the amount of Mastery Points gained?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Diovid.9506

I’m pretty sure the mastery system is specifically designed in such a way that the total amount of mastery points you can get is equal to (or only slightly higher than) the amount of mastery points needed to unlock all abilities. So I don’t think they will reduce the rate with which you gain mastery points.

Note that higher tiers in mastery tracks require more points than lower tiers. Also note that not all mastery points are meant to be difficult to get, only some of them are.

Which is quite interesting from a power lvl perspective.

The wild spirits of the norn are supposed to be more or less on the same level as the six gods (at least from the norn side of view), so they are supposed to be very powerfull beings (which can be consumed by elder dragons, so they are beneath them in power).

I’m not sure. The gods are put on the level of elder dragons and since one elder dragon defeated multiple spirits on his own, the gods are definitely a lot stronger than the spirits. Even when looked at from the point of view of the norn I’m not sure. They view the spirits of the wild as being the spirits of animals, right? However, they view the human gods as being ‘spirits of actions’ such as ‘war’ and ‘knowledge’ which makes them an entirely different class of spirits.

Why would you rather channel some mortal being instead of a godlike being? It doesn`t really make much sense for me.

At least Mallyx is a godlike being as he was a real threat to Kormir after she ascended. Shiro was an Envoy which also made him more than a mere mortal. Glint was a far cry away from being a mortal as well. Ventari and Jalis are perhaps a different story but still.. I think there is an argument to be made that at least Mallyx, Shiro and Glint were in fact on a similar level as the spirits of the wild.

Of course we could argue that the spirit power is deluded, as it is channeled by several norn at once, while we as a player are supposedly the only reveant channeling these legends (which is hopefully somehow explained how we get them actually. Which is I guess another thing that is just glanced over)

We channel an echo of those legends which they left in the mists through their influence, not the legends themselves. I’m not sure where you got the idea from that the player characcter is the only revenant that is channeling those legends.

One thing I find interesting, and possibly a little sad, is just how much smaller Tyria feels. Part of it is probably that GW1 simply was not good at showing how much land a typical village took up (particularly when adding farms and so on) but in GW1, Shaemoor to Loamhurst was quite a decent hike, definitely feeling like you had travelled to the next village. In GW2… it’s basically just moving from the outer suburb of Divinity’s Reach to the inner farmlands.

Agreed so much.

It’s also interesting how close to the Maguuma Bloodstone is to Verdant Brink. Be interesting to see if that plays a role… or gets a mention.

Based on that proximity and based on the raid trailer, people speculate that the raid takes place on/near the bloodstone. Regardless, I would be quite suprised and disappointed if the bloodstone is not a part of HoT.

Chronomancer, berserker, herald, and tempest disagree.

Sort of yes. However, Anet seems to have made a distinction between elite specializations which get an off-hand weapon and added mechanics on the one hand (chronomancer, berserker, herald and tempest) and elite specialziations which get a two-handed weapon and changed mechanics on the other hand (dragonhunter, daredevil, reaper).

Most likely due to balancing.
Being able to use for example Chronomancer utility skills while at the same time also being able to use the same three standard lines as people are using now would most likely lead to rather bad and unbalanced results.

Not just this but you have to remember that Anet will give each profession multiple elite specs in the future. If skills and weapons weren’t tied to elite specs, then the skills and weapons of different elite specs could be combined. This would increase the complexity of a profession exponentially with each added elite spec.

As it stand i believe either the Seers (very similar in look to the mursaat) or Margonites are viable options. i do not believe the mursaats could be the exalted simply due to their antagonistic role.

It’s worth bearing in mind that the mursaats’ antagonistic role had them doing something bad (human sacrifice) for a good reason (keeping Abbadon sealed behind the Door of Komalie). That no longer applies, as the door got opened anyway, and Abbadon is dead.

It seems entirely plausible to me that they vanished for a few generations so they can be somewhat forgotten, and then returned with a new name to try to disasociate themselves with what past events. Without the burden of having to prevent the Flameseeker Prophecies, there is scope for them to establish a more benevalent relationship with the other races (or at least benevalent-seeming), and with the gods absent, it’s always possible they’re trying to fill that niche.

They weren’t very nice even before the Flameseeker Prophecies were made public by Glint though. At the previous rise of the elder dragons the Mursaat betrayed their fellow elder races (the Dwarves, Seers, Forgotten and Jotun). In addition, the Mursaat almost wiped out the Seers in a war.

If the Mursaat ally with us, they will do so for purely selfish reasons, probably out of fear for the elder dragons.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Diovid.9506

From the few answers Anet has given in this regard it seems to be the case that, at least in the personal story, you being a Revenent (and your profession in general) plays no role and will not be mentioned. They want your story to be race-related and order-related but not profession-related so they are just going to ignore your profession completely.

Now, we have seen that this is different in the living story so perhaps it will be mentioned in the personal story of HoT but by that point in the timeline it will no longer matter.

Anyone else thinks it’s funny and inappropriate for Charr to became a revenant? First they say something like “rely on iron, not false gods”, and then he comes to the Mists, where gods’ domains are located. It’s like if Richard Dawkins stopped being an atheist kitten and became a miracle doing prophet. Revenants are basically shamans that voluntarily let spirits inhabit them for a time.

The charr have always believed the human gods to be real and no doubt also believe the mists are real. They just choose not to incorporate them into a belief system i.e. they choose not to worship and follow the gods. In addition, the Charr are pragmatic, if they can use the power of the mists and the power of legends against the dragons, they will.

The LS achievements are things like this: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gates_of_Maguuma_%28achievements%29 (if you scroll all the way down you can click on the achievements of the other LS episodes).

These are adventures: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Adventure

Better keep new content focused on multiplayer, it is not a single player game after all.

GW1 was pretty much a solo game.

Over time, GW1 turned into a solo game. Heroes were a large part of that. Originally though, GW1 was designed as a gvg game.

Mordrem Guard and the Nightmare Court

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Diovid.9506

Now that the cat is out of the bag for a long time already and we know the real origin of the Sylvari, seeing that the Sylvari receive now basically a new antagonistic faction that works as enemies, I think they make the Nightmare Court completely obsolete

With the Mordrem Guard coming soon, what is exactly stil lthe role in this game for the Nightmare Court?

It is quite possible that the role of the nightmare court in the sylvari origin is more intricate than we currently know. Furthermore, several of the other races have more than one advisarial group of their own race. The Charr fight against Flame Legion, renigades and branded charr. The humans have to deal with both bandits and evil ministers,
white mantle (though, granted, these three might actually be related) and risen humans. The asura do not only suffer from the inquest but they also suffer from the opperations of the Arcane Eye and the Arcane Council. So there is nothing wrong with having more than one evil group of a given race.

What is exactly Mordremoths stance towards the Nightmare Court at all, or will there even be still a Nightmare Court after Heart of Thorns?

We don’t know. However, my own speculation is that the nightmare court are as anti-Modremoth as other sylvari and have the same chance of being corrupted as other sylvari.

But now with the Mordrem Guard coming, I think this makes the Nightmare Court totally uninteresting and obsolete, because the Mordrem Guard are effectively everything, what the Nightmare Court is and never could be in this game.
The Mordrem Guards are to me effectively, how I would have wished from begin on of this game that the Nightmare Court should always be like.

Disagreed. The Modrem Guard do not have free will. The nightmare court choose to form an antagonistic group, the modrem are forced into what they are. This makes them waaaay less interesting. Potentially, anyway, because the nightmare court as potrayed in game are way more 1-dimensional than neccesary.

Due to the Nightmare Court having absolutely no bonds anymore to the Mother Tree, the Dream, Ventari’s Tablet and its teaching and al lthe rest of the Sylvari…I think they would make easily the most easiest and first targets for Mordremoth to turn all Nightmare Court Sylvari into practicalyl the most powerful form of Elite-Modrem Guards, because they have no mental barriers, that Mordremoth had to break to crush their minds.
They are the kind of Sylvari, which have by themself already a huge amount of hatred in themself towards the Dream and the Mother Tree, that it is absolutely for Mordremoth no challenge at all to convert them all over into his Mordrem Guard Army.

First of, the nightmare court have a very strong bond with the pale tree, the dream and the other sylvari. They don’t want to be cut of from the pale tree, they want to free her from Ventari’s influence. Likewise, they don’t want to be cut of from the dream, they want to turn it into nightmare. They also do not want to kill the other sylvari, but to bring them into nightmare.

Second of all, the factors that seem to be involved in the corruption of sylvari: 1) strong will, 2) connection to the dream and the pale tree, 3) a strong pale tree and 4) distance from Modremoth. As I said, unlike the soundless (and Aerin and Scarlet), the nightmare court are not cut of from the dream and the tree. There is also no proof that the nightmare court are weaker willed than other sylvari.

Also Faolain being part of them as their leader, which always had a deep despise and inner hatred against the Mother Tree, because of thinking that she hides the truth from all of her childs should make for Mordremoth really a huge appeal to convert her over into his Army with Faolain being super easy to convert over, now where all the truth is practicalyl right in front of her eyes everywhere right into the face.

What Faolain hated about the pale tree was the top-down decision making and the influence of Ventari. The former is even worse for modrem than it is for sylvari who listen to the pale tree, so why would that be tempting?

Imo this includes for me also a complete redesign of the Twilight Arbor Dungeons, because its already a healf hearted redesigned dungeon, so why not redesign it with the Aether Path back in mind just now completely???

Yea, that will never happen. First of all, Anet has said that they won’t revamp the dungeons any further. Second of all, that would be too much work for too little gain. Third of all, the dungeons (and zones) are mostly stuck in time so there is little reason to do a revamp for that reason.

All sylvari heard the call?

in Lore

Posted by: Diovid.9506

Diovid.9506

from the article it seems to shed a little nature on how the dream protects sylvari:

it’s a distraction.

the “constant noise” that soundless complain about is the whole POINT of the dream, it’s so noisy that unless mordremoth is actively shouting as loud as he can, they just can’t hear him over the crowd.

and the wyld hunts are a distraction to keep you busy and not pay attention to the whispers.

that’s why the soundless are so sussceptible: their minds are so quiet that they can hear mordremoth all the time!

I wonder if nightmare court hears it stronger as well.

I think I saw Faolin killing pact soldiers in the one trailer, alongside other sylvari and mordrem.

People say that about Faolin a lot, but if you actually look at the trailer then this seems not be the case. The corrupted enemies in that trailer glow red-ish. Faolin does not glow in this way, but the pact soldier she kills does (slightly).

How do they explain why Scarlet and Aerin continued to have a Sylvari appearance rather than a Mordrem appearance even though they were under the control of Mordremoth? Could they have been considered Mordrem Guard as well?

It’s possible (or even probable) that it’s a gradual process. Or that the physical aspect of corruption has to take place in one of those blighting plants.

Will the soundless fall to Mordremoth?

in Lore

Posted by: Diovid.9506

Diovid.9506

Actually I think the soundsless are invulnerable to mordremoth. This because it is the dragon of mind, could mean that he corrupts them through mind control: in sylvari case the dream. But since soundsless are not connected anymore to the dream it would make them invuln.
Just a theory

That seems to be a wrong theory. Aerin and Scarlet were both soundless (well.. disconnected from the dream anyway, they weren’t the same as the other soundless) and they were the first to be corrupted by Mordremoth (at least, as far as we know).

What seems to be the case is that defiance against corruption is determined by 1) strong will, 2) connection to the dream, 3) a strong pale tree and 4) distance from Modremoth.

Because if there wasn’t an expansion, those features may have never come. There’s simply no way to know.

Tempest Elemental Bastion/Radiance Needs Fix

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Diovid.9506

Diovid.9506

After going through some trait calculations, I noticed 2 shouts are not benefiting from the Tempest Trait called “Elemental Bastion”.

“Wash the pain away!” and “Rebound!” do not receive the bonus AoE heal as they should.

The “Elemental Bastion” specifically targets all Shout-Types to gain the AoE heal; “Wash the Pain Away!” and “Rebound!” are no acceptation to this rule.

No, Elemental Bastion says the following: “Auras you apply heal allies”. Neither Wash the Pain Away nor Rebound apply Auras.

Secondly, the “Superior Rune of Radiance” does not give the extra 33% (2 Seconds) “Aura Duration” to other allies affected by the Tempest Shout skills. This is a serious issue for those who wish to utilize the fullness of the AoE Aura effects that Shouts give.

On the Rune of Radiance, is says: “Durations of Auras you apply are increased by 33%”. Some may think it gives the illusion of: “Auras applied to YOU are increased”. But it does not say that, and it says “Auras you apply” which gives no specification to whom it effects as long as that person(s) gets an Aura.

I think there are some problems with the stacking of Auras.

Trinity, or better, roles is what makes a role playing game great.

The ‘role’ you are talking about is combat role, but the ‘role’ in ‘roleplaying’ comes from the ‘role’ your character has in the world and which you as a player get to experience or, in the case of more openended roleplaying games, you as a player get to decide. In that sense the ‘role’ of ‘roleplaying’ is closer to a ‘role’ in a stage performance.

Edit: Besides, you forgot to add: roles is what makes a role playing game great to me.

What we have at the moment on GW2 is not actual content. 99% of the instances are like: Skip 80% of the mobs, and the ones that can’t be skipped, you pull to a corner and AoE them down. It requires zero skill, zero effort and zero team co-ordination.

Atm GW2 is basically a game that requires no tactic or thinking, and all you have to do is just barely know the current meta. If you do know it, you can faceroll every single instance or encounter while being semi-afk playing with 1 hand. If you want this to continue because you’re too lazy actually playing a challenging game, that’s fine, but please don’t say trinity is what makes a role playing boring…

The problems you describe are problems of execution of the system, not problems of the system itself.

One guy keeps 20 lizard soldiers on him while 3 other guys slash them/shoot them/bomb them safely and one guy keep healing to keep that one guy alive.

It looks stupid visually. One of the lizard soldiers should probably attack the dps/healer to end the battle faster.

I agree it does look stupid and when you simplify it like that playing it is stupid.

Problem is, we’ve done the other option (no trinity) and for some people, it’s just as bad only in the other direction.

So what to do?

Agreed. That annoyed me a lot as well.

I think it is simply a matter of him going on vacation and thus have vacation clothes on. They didn’t expect to be shot down and having to fight out of the jungle after all.

I didn’t look too closely into the nobles’ deal so this may have been answered – but if they’re going on vacation why are they with a Pact battle fleet?

They were there to observe the battle (presumably while eating popcorn and sitting in comfy chairs).

For example, if we lose the Human Charr peace treaty we will lose support from both Charr and Humans for the fight against the Elder Dragon.

Caudecus doesn’t support the Charr peace treaty because he is using the hatred between Charrs and Humans as a mean to gain support. Not to mention he doesn’t see the Elder Dragons as a threat so if he succeeds in ruining the treaty and take the throne Tyria is most likely going to be screwed by the Elder Dragons.

We don’t really have the full Charr support as is. Currently we have the Iron Legion with limited support from Ash and Blood (and obviously no Flame support :P ). But so far we haven’t heard much from the Ash and Blood Imperator. Now we can argue that they’re working through their Tribunes but their absence at the world summit is notable much in the same way that Ebonhawks absence as the world summit was also noticeable.

Actually, we know that Ash fully supports Iron in it’s peace treaty with the humans. Blood is the wild card though. See: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bangar_Ruinbringer. I’ve had my suspicion that most renegades and most flame legion defectors were blood legion soldiers.

Just an idea on HoT and possibilities

Yea, but the gods do exist even if the other races don’t consider them gods, else, we wouldn’t have fought abaddon n such.

The point is that 1) The Sylvari have never seen them or their influence since the gods left 225 years before the Sylvari awakened so the Sylvari are right to be critical of the existence of the gods, at least the present-day existence of them and 2) You can believe the gods exist while still doubting or denying their divinity or at least refusing to let them dictate how you should live your life (see: Charr and Asura).

Well, no one knows where they are; except perhaps Rytlock, hence him being blind now, and being as how Rytlock isnt exactly a human-god lover, and the human gods arent exactly charr lovers… I don’t see him putting in any good words.

Rytlock is actually pretty knowledgable about human history and mythology. In addition, he’s a very pragmatic Charr. If he sees benefits in an alliance with the human gods then he would probably accept such an alliance.

That all said, I think it is highly unlikely for the gods to appear in GW2.

However, we never learned where did the Druids die.

We never learned that they died so it is completely logical that we never learned where they died. Or are you talking about the physical bodies the druids left behind when they became spirits?

With so many Sylvari I’m guessing the place where the Pale Tree was placed had a lot more bodies underground than was original thought.

This is not neccesarily the case. If the bodies are only used as blueprints used for roughly similar humanoids instead of molds used for copies that are as similar as possible then variation makes sense.

If you’re saying these trees used corpses for the blueprint for their offspring does that mean that the Sylvari we play are based on Ronan to an extent?

Ronan’s family to be exact. Ronan’s family died and Ronan planted the Pale Tree on top of their graves.

In the case of the Blighting Tree, it is hinted at that the pact soldiers who died in the attack are being used as blueprints, not just Diarmid.

Is masteries hard to acquire?

Probably not grindy enough. This is supposed to be end game progression. It’s a time gate.

Right now, leveling a single mastery takes as much time as leveling a char from 1 to 80 through exploration. For me, that sounds grindy enough.

However, masteries are account-wide.
