@OP, You are not the only one that is disappointed, many of us still waits for GvG, and to be honest, many of us does play WvW just for a gvg reason, because we can arrange fights there. If anet takes that away from us with no open field, many of us will probably quit WvW & GW2.
But i’m patient and i still hope and wait that anet Adds GvG.
Do note that the guild wars fanbase uses two very different definitions for ‘GvG’. The first definition is GvG as it was in GW1: relatively small scale ( 8 vs 8 ) organized pvp matches where the objective was to kill the opposing guild lord (the combination of leaderboards and stronghold make this somewhat a reality in GW2). The second definition is GvG as it is practiced in WvW in GW2: relatively large scale combat in large open areas where the objective is just death match (I think?).
The core necromaner needs more support, the reaper doesn’t imo.
Will the first be a thing again in PVE/WvW/PvP ?
In PvE: Maybe once we get to fight the deep sea dragon but otherwise it will stay quite minor. In PvP and WvW: Probably not.
And the second ever happen?
I wouldn’t count on it.
yes, cuz the name has everything to do with GvG ….
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Guild_Wars
Yes. GW1 was originally made as a GvG game with PvE as a tutorial. The name and the lore come from GvG. The name does not come from lore.
In an update surrounding the expansion guild leaderboards will be introduced so there’s that.
I have different question. Are we going to play with “specialization” lines or current trait system?
Since the beta is played on live servers I would guess that it uses the current system.
Will existing weapon skills be "fixed" in HoT
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Diovid.9506
So Anet, will you also polish existing skills in HoT or have you guys moved on?
You probably won’t get a direct respons from Anet. However, seeing as Anet is quite extensively tweaking a lot of existing skills and traits I think the answer is: yes, they will also polish existing skills. For example, Anet is completely changing the Engineer’s Mortar skill, both in terms of how it works and in terms of how it looks. Other changes are things like taking the Guardian’s tomes away and giving them a signet and a shout instead and changing healing and elite skills which didn’t have a skill type before to having a skill type.
I don’t think we have heard anything about weapon skills specifically but considering so much is changing I can’t imagine weapon skills will not be touched.
I’m also looking forward to what that “making up” for arming time of traps will be, including the healing spring if it’s thrown in there.
For Dragonhunters I’m pretty sure it was half a second casting time and half a second arming time. So I’m guessing it will be the same for thieves and rangers.
- What happens to boon and condi duration?
Unknown but I have heard rumors that the duration of all conditions and boons will be adjusted somewhat due to this change.
- What about classes like eles, that run berserker gear and defensive trait lines, will they lose the survivability they had?
They will have to mix and match sets with different stats. At least, they can do that in PvE. PvP is a different story of course.
- No more build variety with 4-5 trait lines?
Nope, but then those builds weren’t really standard except for some exceptions. In exchange you basically get 4 more attribute points (i.e. you get 2 more major trait choices and 2 more minor traits). In addition people no longer feel obligated to take a certain trait line for the stats, which can create variety.
- What about useless traits (before useless traits still gave you a stats boost, but now they are just useless)
What do you mean ‘useless traits’? Can you give an example? And did you take into account that a lot of traits will be quite different in the new system?
1. If guild halls are only for people who buy the expansion, there will be a riot of upset players. (seriously, I can’t go to my own guilds guild hall?)
I remember Anet saying that people without the expansion will be able to enter guild halls but the functionality of the halls will be limited for them. I might be wrong though.
2. If the WvW map is only for people who buy the expansion, that makes no sense either, do to it splitting up guilds that do WvW together, and would break the WvW experience of those without the expansion.
The WvW and PvP maps are already confirmed to be available for everyone.
3. There are already more skins than any player could possibly use, anet has spit out 100’s of new skins for the Gem store, so don’t tell me they needed an expansion to release more skins.
This is just a minor thing and not one of the major features. No one is claiming that they made the expansion for the skins. It is vice versa. They make an expansion so they also make new skins.
4. If the flying mechanic will work anywhere on the continent, then I will concede that point, but if it only works in one area, like the crystals in DT, then I cry foul.
It will work in the entire jungle, not anywhere outside of the jungle. How could it? Only the new zones will be designed with the gliders in mind. All other zones were not. It could make vistas and jumple puzzles easier and it could lead to more map breaking. How is it realistic to expect the gliders to be used outside of the jungle?
5. When the new skills are released, will players w/o the expansion not receive the new skills, therefor making that character inferior to people with the expansion? In PvP/WvW, will a chronomancer destroy a necro that didn’t buy the expansion?
Anet has stated that elite specializations should be equal in power to core specializations. In other words, those with the expansion should have more options but not better options. In reality it will take multiple balance patches for that to be true of course, if it will ever be true.
You know, most weapons arent even used due to meta. Why throw in more weapons?
Because diversity in and of itself is a good thing?
Is it though? More diversity leads to two things: 1) more disregarded skills and 2) more unexpectedly overpowered combinations. Someone mentioned GW1 and this is exactly what happened there and the exact reason why Arenanet is now very cautious about adding too many skills.
Look at the reaper’s minor adept trait for example, which says:
You can equip greatswords and use reaper shouts. Death Shroud is replaced with Reaper’s Shroud, which has more melee oriented skills.
That would only be neccesary if a necromancer couldn’t use shouts without the trait.
People keep forgetting that some art for the Revenant has them holding a bow.
Show that art then. All I know of is the piece of art on the Heart of Thorns website which is mistaken for a bow but which is actually a sword.
I disagree with both of you. An elite specialization’s weapons and skills might not neccesarily fit the base class’s theme. And one elite specialization’s weapons and skills might neccesarily fit the theme of another elite specialization.
Suppose, hypothetically, that the thief gets a ‘pirate’ specialization and a ‘ninja’ specialization. Those just do not mix.
So, please make elite spec weapon and utility skill baseline for diversity sake. All I want is to use Rise! with my MM build. The other shouts, the reaper traits, and greatsword just doesn’t look good with MM builds.
I also kinda disagree here. I plan on making a Blood Magic / Death Magic / Reaper MM necro, using a greatsword.
What if HoT is nothing more than a glorified over hyped map like SW.
I know there are a lot of people who are bashing HoT for having too little content but this is just an absurd hyperbole and you know it.
HoT is confirmed to include.
- Multiple zones (not just the one that has been shown).
- Elite specializations (how is this just ‘a few new skills’?).
- The Revenant.
- Masteries.
- New skins.
- Guild Halls.
- Adventures.
- Probably other stuff that I am forgetting right now.
HoT also seems to include new personal story. It is speculated, though in no way confirmed, that there will be new fractals. The things that are most uncertain now are: 1) Whether there will be dungeons, 2) How many new zones there will be exactly (aside from that there will be more than one), 3) How big the zones will be and how long they will keep us playing, 4) How long the new personal story will be.
The new pvp map, the new wvw map, the new trait system, guild leaderboards and so on are of course not part of the expansion itself. Though they are coming at about the same time (somewhat earlier actually).
heck, how about a holodeck in LA in which individuals or groups (of individuals) could relive past glories (replay old missions or seasons) or (re)experience new old content salvaged from temporaneity! If that’s not a real word it should be.
Belzebu, Bludragon is not asking about what it takes to play the new living story, just what it takes to unlock it. Maybe you knew that but just in case..
We don’t really know anything about living story post-HoT yet so there is no answer either way.
You think they will talk about Lion’s Arch at Ready Up, a pvp show?
They spent a whole lot of time just talking about Dragonhunter on said pvp show, with only a little talk about pvp. I think for the time being PoI and Rdy^ should be thought of as a weekly dose of HoTness
Except there is a difference between discussing an elite specialization, which is very relevant to PvP, and discussing Lion’s Arch, which has no relevance for PvP. As far as I know, the only HoT-related things discussed at a Ready Up were: the new WvW borderlands, the new SPvP map, the Revenant, specializations and the Dragonhunter. All of these are related to PvP in some form.
My guess is they will talk about guilds, i.e. guild leaderboards, guild halls and so on. At least those are partially of interest to the WvW and PvP players.
You think they will talk about Lion’s Arch at Ready Up, a pvp show?
The ranger will get a trait which allows their pet to taunt. Other than that I don’t think we know of any skills or traits that allow you to taunt.
However I think warriors will get taunt in one way or another. There might be a small chance for engineers to also get it but I don’t think that’s very likely.
It’s unclear where Airships come from.
No it’s not. They are made by the pact through a combination of Asura, Charr and Human technology (as stated by Trahearne in one of the personal story steps). The Aetherblade airships, at least the first batch, were stolen from the pact (and then, presumably, reverse engineered).
Outside Lion’s Arch: If it is fought outside lion’s arch then humans may take the victory based on numbers and flanking directions. Lion’s Arch to the south still has a fairly sizable population and Divinity’s Reach to the northwest has a mostly unscathed population, with more humans spread out between the two on the west. If the Norn wanted to win a battle with the humans here they would need to enlist the help of the charr from the east.
The humans of Lion’s Arch are not citizens of Kryta. Besides, Lion’s Arch is not a human city, it is a city with members of all races.

There is a sticky about this in this very subforum: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Increased-Bleeding-Stacks/first
1 no racial rewads tracks to get racial skills
2 they would have to make 17 new skills for F5 skill for engineer
3 Anet want all skills to have their types to work with traits , impossible with racial skills
4 some racial skill could be too strong with some elite specializations
5 revenants do not appear to be able to choose their utility skills. Their utility skills are determined by their legendary stance. The only thing they can use the arrows above their utility skills for is to rearrange the skills given by their stance. Edit: The same goes for the revenant’s healing and elite skills of course.
(edited by Diovid.9506)
I’m guessing guild halls. Remember that this week is ready up, not points of interest. Therefore I think things like lore, masteries and challenging group content are unlikely.
thats the way all lines work now.
That’s the way all lines will work, whenever the specialization update hits.
Humans or Norn? Charr.
That said, disorganised as they are, they were an even match for the Charr, who were not able to overcome humanity after overthrowing the Flame Legion.
Norn by far there the strongest race off all even Charr try to capture there land but fail hard
You are both wrong. You are referring to this part of the Movement of the World:
When the Charr reached the foothills, the Norn drove them back with a single crushing blow, completely decimating every warband sent against them.
Although it is certain the Charr could have destroyed the Norn resistance if they but turned their entire army—or even one full legion—to the cause, warbands and smaller raiding parties could not overcome the individual strength of the Norn.
Which says the Charr would probably be able to defeat the Norn, with a single legion at that.
The only Power Creep that will happen is in couple x-pacs ahead where “core” trait lines aren’t meta and the new meta is full of elite speccs.
If that happens, that will be the Power creep, happened in gw1 where the core game was awfull for pvp if u didn’t had the new top builds with the new skills, better builds appeared basicly
Core specs will always be meta because a build can only have 1 elite spec at the most.
However I hope that using 3 core specs will be as powerful as using 2 core specs and 1 elite spec. I think Anet is trying to make sure that is the case. However, as I said befre, it may take some time for that to happen.
how will the new skills and weapon be unlocked still in this new specialization system replacing the trait system.
Each skill type (e.g. shouts, corruptions, wells etc) and each specialization (e.g. reaper, soul reaping, blood magic etc) has it’s own tab within the new unlock system. So the same points you use to unlock traits are used to unlock skills. You can see the unlock UI here: https://d3b4yo2b5lbfy.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/6ddd5HeroPanel_ScreenshotTraining4.jpg
SECONDLY are we going to be able to use the new weapons and utilities without using the new trait lines?
You cannot use the new weapons and utilities without using the new trait lines. However, you can use the new trait lines without using the new weapons and utilities.
When i say “like WoW” i mean just changing the numbers. And if you have the best armour in HOT you can do solo the normal dungeons or with one friend.
People are already soloing and duoing various dungeons.
I think initially there will be some balance problems but in the longer run I expect the people with HoT will not be stronger than those without HoT.
Also ranger is getting staff as the druid so the chance that the warrior also gets a staff very close to 0%
This. Besides, it already appears to be the case that the revenant is getting a melee staff.
I think I somewhat remember the marionette being a test for the breachmaker. It was a long time ago though..
The problem is that neither the thief nor the warrior really fits the archer archetype.
And neither does the ranger. Yet people demand ranger to fit the archetype for some reason. Rangers will never be pet-less (as discussed in the ‘Future Elite Specs always with pets’ thread). Warriors and thieves are thus more likely to fill the niche. Both already have multiple non-magical ranged weapons and no pets. Plus their selection of ranged weapons can be expaneded further with elite specializations (such as the speculated thief specialization which gives it a rifle).
The video is 4 hours though. Here is a written version: http://dulfy.net/2015/04/25/gw2-core-specializations/
And even better, a calculator: http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AgABqAKoA6g~
The only spec I’m currently concerned about at all is the Chronomancer, because one trait point is a small price to pay for the powerful and unique ability of resetting and refreshing yourself.
Except in the new trait system trait points no longer exist. You just choose 3 trait lines (now called specializations) and max those out completely. You will no longer be 6/6/0/0/2, you will always be 6/6/0/0/6.
See here for what the new systems looks like: http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AgABqAKoA6g~
I was expecting either necromancer or warrior to get it.. so yea I vote warrior.
Why would they stop releasing specs? That would make no sense at all. The hype is finally building again and people are excited. It would be marketing suicide to stop releasing specs at this point…
It could be that the other specs are not far enough along. It could also be that they want to save some hypebuilding for later. Either way, it was stated that only 3 would be announced initially. How much time it will take until the next spec is unknown.
The skills that were datamined for the sword seemed like placeholders though. Just wait and see before you say ‘lol anet’.
It has to do with unlocking though. It gives a sense of progression. Why is that not a good reason?
Want to use the longbow as a Guardian? You have to take Dragonhunter as one of your 3 specializations.
Want to be a Dragonhunter but not use longbow? Entirely possible, you are free to use all the standard Guardian weapons as a Dragonhunter.
Want to use traps as a Guardian? You have to take Dragonhunter as one of your 3 specializations.
Want to be a Dragonhunter but not use traps? Entirely possible, you are free to use all the standard Guardian healing skills, utility skills and elite skills as a Dragonhunter.
How about chronomancers? They can also use sword and shield. Probably not what you had in mind though.
The revenant can indeed use sword and shield, here are datamined skills: http://i.imgur.com/SjX7u2A.png. Those could all have changed radically in the mean time though.
Expansions move the game forward, if you don’t buy it you should honestly just stop playing, there won’t be anything left for you. This is the case for every MMO in history and this one won’t be any different.
I seriously don’t know what you’re talking about. Sure, you won’t have access to new content or the elite specializations or the revenant but other than that you’re fine if you’re not buying HoT.
You still get the new trait system, you get the new borderlands map, you get the new pvp map, you get any other future QoL update, balance update and feature update. In addition, you should still be competitive in dungeons/fractals, wvw and pvp. Because there is no vertical progression (i.e. new gear levels and new character levels) GW2 is different from other MMOs.
Well to be honest chronomancer is pay2win unless for example 5th shatter replaces 4th. Then ok. Else we’re looking at non chronomancers having 4 shatters, chronomancers having same 4 + 5th. That’s not an alternative playstyle, that’s straight up upgrade.
Yes, because the only difference between chronomancers and normal mesmers is that f5.
Something I thought would be a cool plot development is if the pale tree faded for good and Caledon forest and The Grove were to be completely taken over by the new Mordremoth’s court (I mean it’s always been the goal of the nightmare court, suddenly they have the means).
I don’t know about that. The nightmare court seem to favor individuality and freedom above all else so I’m not sure if they would welcome Modremoth as their dictator. In addition, I thought the nightmare court was just as anti-dragon as the rest of the sylvari? Besides, it was always their goal to change the Pale Tree, not to destroy it.
People are so quick to assume that nightmare = modremoth’s corruption. Yet Scarlet and Aerin were soundless. I remain unconvinced that the nightmare court will be in cahoots with Mord.
As I’ve said in the million or so threads on the same subject before:
1) Anet has said that they do not want elite specializations to be stronger (of course this is no guarantee but still..).
2) The numbers are not finalized.
3) At this point it’s all theorycraft. Until these elite specializations (as well as the entire new trait system for that matter) are actual put into practice, it’s too early to really judge anything.
Also, you’re wrong about the Guardian. The Dragonhunter replaces the active effects of virtues, it does not improve them.
Here is a list of things coming out before HoT: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/35li8k/list_of_features_coming_before_hot/
How long before HoT is anyone’s guess though.
So that means basically, that Beast Mastery (which deals with Pets) would always need to be useable.
It’s not just beastmastery though. There are so many traits (both minor and major) in all specializations that do not function or do not function completely without pets. The same goes for all kinds of utility skills, healing skills, elite skills and even some weapon skills.
I bet they will introduce an archer class without pet in one expansion later. Now they added a heavy class, next time or after that a medium.
I wouldn’t count on it. Now they have 3 professions of each armor class. Besides, they have stated that elite specializations are their way of advancing options in the future. In addition the Warrior, Dragonhunter and Thief are already ‘archers without pets’ and the list of professions with bows can possibly grow even larger with future elite specializations.
(edited by Diovid.9506)
Well, there are several reasons why some people think they might be removed:
1) Engineers are getting a 5th toolbelt skill for their elite, which would mean they would also get new toolbelt skills for all racial elites which would have to be balanced and for which animations would have to be made.
2) It is unclear if and how racial skills would work with the Revenant.
3) It is unclear if and how racial skills would work with the new skills and trait unlock system.
I think I read a comment made by Anet that they were looking into this. It was right after the camera update so my memory is a bit hazy.
One thing that’s not been talked about enough is how we are getting back stats on the traitlines that had class specific stats like how investing in the virtues line gave virtue recharge.
That’s not true. Anet said that half these profession-specific bonuses will become baseline and the other half is given if you take the related specialization (virtues for Guardian, Arcana for Elementalist and so on).
but wouldnt a charge time on it give enemies time to get out the trap before it pops? that would be a nerf…
Not if in exchange things like damage and cooldown time are buffed.
