To be clear. In the context of GW2 ‘map’ and ‘zone’ mean exactly the same thing. Queensdale = a map = a zone. What you call a zone, gereden, is called a ‘region’ in GW2. Ascalon, Kryta, Orr and so on are regions.
You can’t take seriously any anet promoted youtuber/streamer like bogotter or wooden potatoes. They can’t be trusted because they benefit from advertising this game.
Why judge people based on whether or not they are promoted by Anet instead of based on the points they are making? If you disagree with the points then by all means, disagree with them but focus on what is said instead of on who is saying it.
Today there will be 3 more blog posts on guilds and guild halls. Tomorrow there be 4 more blog posts on guilds and guild halls. In addition, tomorrow there will be a Points of Interest on guilds and guild halls.

Couple of mistakes you made. I corrected them.
“There you go people, are you guys happy now that we have 20 new really tiny maps instead of 3 the size of the silverwastes.”
Have you seen Verdent Brink? go check out beta footage on Youtube.
Here is a datamined picture of Verdent Brinks, with Dry Top and the Silverwastes next to it and Brisbane on the far right.
That is ALL? Based on SW I can probably run across that in 2 minutes.
Except you have the 3 biomes thing. It is much more vertical than SW. Besides, is it really about how quickly you get through it? Shouldn’t it be about how long it keeps you entertained and about how much fun you have during that time?

That cant be the whole map, they would be the laughing stock of the gaming world if that’s it.
That is a single zone of the expansion. We know there will be other zones but so far only Verdant Brink has been playable in the beta (and only a part of Verdant Brink at that).

Short answer: Probably not.
Shorter answer: Megaservers.
It’s 250 years in the future.
You don’t need an ancient Seer to infuse your armor with the spectral essence of an Eidolon, nor an ancient ritual of Ascension to inherit the gift of truesight as per the even more ancient prophecy.
All you need is cash dude! There are merchants around who you purchase that stuff from now! Get out of the past yo!
I’m just waiting on the Ascended/Infusion ATM machines to appear, there’s got to be an Asuran working on that somewhere…
Deus ex asura.
It would only make sense if it’s PvE builds since Guild Halls seems to be more part of PvE than sPvP.
Unless there is a link between guild halls and guild leaderboards. Even though this week is about guild halls, one of friday’s blogs is called “Introducing PvP Guild Teams”.
That said, I might be nice to have a toggle option where you can switch between PvP and PvE/WvW. Although that might be too much trouble.
- Elite specializations.
- The Revenant.
- Possibly guild halls (although I remember reading somewhere that only creation of guild halls is HoT-only but that non-HoT players can still enter them).
Things that are confirmed to be for all players:
- Stronghold.
- WvW updates.
- New WvW borderlands.
- Specialization system.
Things that are confirmed to be HoT-only:
- Masteries
- Elite specializations.
- New areas.
- Future living story.
- Revenant.
Things I am unsure about:
- Guild Halls (I am pretty sure I read somewhere that creation of guild halls is HoT-only but people without HoT can still enter them).
- Guild leaderboards.

There are outposts and adventures which kinda sorta take the place of hearts.
Masteries are literally the definition of horizontal progression. You do things in the world to level them, and they give you different benefits.
Well except they aren’t horizontal they are vertical. You can’t complete the maps without them.
But yes, as of now the only announced progression is the new rep grinds.
Just because you need them to complete maps, it doesn’t make them vertical progression (although I will concede that some of the Masteries are vertical progression.
Horizontal progression is the opening up of options (gliding and mushroom jumping), whereas vertical progression is an increase in power (reduced condition damage and increased damage Masteries).
How is that any different then WoW’s progression then?
The main difference is that unlike higher levels and better gear, masteries do not make you stronger outside of the expansion zones.
Even though engineer will probably get signets, I very much hope they do not. Signets are passive abilities, you ideally do not want to use them, but rather you want to just let them sit there and get their passive bonuses. That sort of play-style is very anti-engineer; with their kits that you are constantly switching between, engineer is one of the most active classes in the game.
Sort of.. I guess the design of signets was that you have to make a tactical decision between their passive effect and their active effect so there’s some play to it beyond just being passive abilities. And if the new signet traits are any indication Anet is trying to promote more active signet use. Besides, if we assume the Engineer elite spec is still getting tool belt skills then those will probably not behave in a signet-like way thus giving at least 5 (f1 – f5) active skills to play with.
We don’t actually know how many are left (I don’t know where you got the ‘3’ from) but it seems like there are 2 left (one core and one elite). It was datamined that Shiro, Glint and Ventari will be legends. In addition, there are only 2 specializations left (one core specialization and one elite specialization), each probably with their own legend attached to it. Most people are speculating that Glint will be the elite’s legend.
There are five core specializations, because there are five core traitlines. Elite specialization is a number 6. What we don’t know is if all the specializations will be tied to a legend – it is possible that the fifth (the one tied to class mechanic) won’t be.
I am aware of that. I don’t know how my post said anything to contradict that. I personally think it is very likely that Invocation is not tied to any legend but is the ‘general’ specialization focused on energy and legend swapping. Kinda similar in that regard to the Arcana specialization of elementalists.
I’d wait until the trait update hits and meta adjusts to that before asking this question.
With the condition changes sinister will no doubt become more popular (for condi glass cannons), as will dire (for condi bunkers).

Sword / Dagger is way more fencer-y than Sword / Sword, off-hand sword is very unwieldy. It’s the reason why a main-gauche existed and why the daisho combat style usually used a wakizashi quite a bit smaller than the katana.
I was going to say that I couldn’t imagine the thief’s F1 changing that much because all existing traits have to work with it, no matter what specialization a thief uses. However, looking at the traits the thief will have after the specialization update, I don’t see that big of a problem.
The fact that something doesn’t fit the engineer theme-wise does not mean that it also doesn’t fit the engineer’s elite specialization.
Monday we will have a Ready Up on skills and balance changes: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/skills-and-balance-changes-on-the-next-episode-of-ready-up/
Also, even before friday we will get multiple announcements on guild halls:
Throughout E3 week, we’ll give you an even deeper look at guild halls and their features
Source: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/get-a-first-look-at-guild-halls-at-the-e3-pc-gamingshow/
So yeah, it’s more than just Colin talking on friday.
That said, of course you should not expect too much. Some people are expecting a release date and a price to be announced for example. While I think E3 would be a logically place to announce them, we have no indication that those will be announced there.
So far I think Glint and Shiro Tagachi will be the main choices… but there’s 3 left. Two core and one elite… so… who knows?

Edit: It’s not today but it’s on monday.
Pyre Fierceshot or Kalla Scorchrazor would be my choices if we wanted charr legends. Or possibly Bonfaaz Burntfur although he was flame legion.
Legend is Legend, does not matter if it was a good guy. Mallyx and Shiro are totally bad Guys, yet they are called upon. So it would be ok for Rytlock to channel Bonfaaz, because Revenants are per A-Net’s Definition not your “Friendly Neighbourhood Heroes”.
Exactly. Revenants are described as being pragmatic and using whatever power they can to achieve their goals. Thus good revenants channeling evil legends makes sense.
It’s to create a sense of progression while leveling up. While leveling up you will actually not have all minor traits of a specialization.
What I’m hoping for is a combination of the finalized core specialiations and more info on why the condition changes were made.
But usually by now a Ready Up is announced on the website..
Labyrinthine Cliffs is my favorite.
I forgot about that one! Yeah it’s high up on my list due to the looks, music and layout. Although, like Southsun, there’s too little reason to be there.
I’m pretty sure they said that the things they would never do are profession change and race change (note: I am more sure about the latter than the former).
@diovid – it’s been anounced all over the place that Anet will be at E3…
I made that post a month ago though
Why? I understand the Traits being reset, but why the Skills?
Skills and Traits are both now earned with the core mastery tracks.
The mastery system and traits/skills do not have anything to do with eachother. But the new trait unlock system does have everything to do with the new skill unlock system.
Things that might (with emphasis on might) be a part of the ‘feature patch’:
- Core specializations.
- Condi changes.
- Break bars.
- Guild leaderboards.
- New WvW borderlands.
- WvW changes.
- Stronghold.
- Personal story changes.
- Lion’s Arch update.
- Wallet changes. All of these are confirmed upcoming changes that are not a part of HoT. I might have missed a few things though.
While they might not require HoT, the marked things will still very much be released with HoT as far as we know.
I agree that it’s unlikely those will come before HoT, especially since WvW still has to be beta tested, but there is a chance they will drop earlier.
There were people who revived to get XP?

Out of curiosity, wasn’t it said earlier that Rangers will be getting Staff for their Druid specialization?
Yes.
that will be also focused around healing and support?
No, this was never stated.
What will happen to this since Revenant is getting the Ventari legend? Will there be any reason to not pick one over another?
My guess is that the druid will be more about conditions and cc’s than support. Regardless, wait until the reveal before asking such questions.
It was horribly vague, but I got something a bit different from that RP article.
The Mists remember what came before, and echoes of those who left an especially powerful imprint on the world of Tyria can still be found there. A revenant calls upon these legendary historical figures, bringing them back into action to enhance the revenant’s own abilities and power.
Reaching back to the original Guild Wars® for the revenant’s Mist-borne battle companions not only allowed ArenaNet to give a nod to players who remember their roles in the previous game, but also to continue the stories of the legends by making them active and aware.
A revenant’s legends are not merely echoes of the past but are fully sentient, with opinions and personalities of their own.
To me, they seem to always be described as some fuzzy thing between “merely a copy” and the real thing. I’m guessing that while they are beings/echoes born from the Mists (aka: Mist-borne, it seems) the legendary figures that inspired their creation made such a large impact in the Mists that they were fleshed out and given much more detail than the average echo/copy.
That is basically how I read it as well.

It becomes a problem when you have multiple Reapers fighting a world boss with deathly chill trait. So im wondering how they are going to address this. Or are they just going to leave it to work how current burn/poison does?
I’m assuming the latter, yes. Condi necros will have to use bleeding, poison and burning as their primary sources of condi damage and use fear and cold only as secondary sources.
(edited by Moderator)
I don’t really understand why they are two different currencies in the first place.
And us Necros did get access to the slow condition. It’s called chill.
Except chill and slow have two entirely different effects.
with Ventari being from GWEN.
Ventari was from prophecies. Although he also showed up in GWEN. Just like Jalis in that regard.
Given today’s blog post on conditions I’ll revise my prediction. I think friday’s stream will be a combination of talk on conditions and talk on core specializations.
It would be a SAD day after they announced it & comes the expansion. They just shelve it like so many things they announced upon release of Gw2.
Considering they did formally announce it, I highly doubt this is something they have shelved. I think it’s more they aren’t at a comfortable stage to give us more information yet. To assume it’s been shelved just because we don’t have more information on it means we would have to assume the same for other things we haven’t heard anything on yet – challenging group content, and the other 6 elite specs, for example.
Like i said, not the first time they formerly announce something & never comes out. Can you read?
They never formally announced guild halls for GW2 though. They said they wanted to, and then when we got closer they said they wouldn’t be in the game at launch. They’ve said that they’ve wanted to do a lot of things. That’s not formally announcing it though, there is a difference.
However they did announce several things that were never finalized though, for example the tablet app they were developing or several mini-games (such as bar brawls and the shooting range). The reverse has also been true, for example they stated they would never introduce a new gear tier but then they introduced ascended gear. There might be more examples but these were the ones that came to mind.
I quite enjoy the looks and music of Dry Top and (to a lesser extent) the Silverwastes. I dislike the events there though, especially in the Silverwastes. The area is just one big zone where you run around and kill enemies in a big group. There is very little in the way of exploration, lore and diversity of activities. Southun cove is the opposite end of the spectrum for me. It is a nice looking place which is fun to explore but there is just no point in being there, no goal or anything (I also hate the fact that it is not connected to surrounding zones, maybe one day..).
If you have to have a map with a single meta event on which pretty much everything is focused I strongly think that the Straits of Devastation is far superior. Although I am also somewhat partial to the Harathi Hinterlands for the same reason. In the end I think I enjoy Plains of Ashford and Queensdale the most though.
Maybe spirits unbound will become a druid feature.
That would make an elite specialization pretty much mendatory to use core skills, that would be weird and I would not be a fan of that.
Skill points will no longer exist. They will be replaced by hero points which are only used for unlocking skills and traits. As Pandeh metioned, recipes which use skill points now will use a new currency in the future.
Originally mini-games were intended to do help with that (things like bar brawls and archery in Divinity’s Reach). Many of those never made it into the game however and the mini-games that are there take place inside seperate areas (such as keg brawl).
In HoT adventures will be introduced though: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Adventure. It was mentioned that at least some of the mini-games that were originally planned but not implemented will be introduced as adventures.
They won’t use GS, unfortunately. S/S will probably go for the shiro spec, shield will probably go for glint’s elite spec, and that may be it.
Uhm, didn’t the datamine say they get off-hand dagger, not off-hand sword?
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2zb4xj/datamining_revenant_weapon_skills/
That was a long time ago. Here are the more recent datamined weapon skills: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/37tunc/update_revenant_datamined_staff_skills_removed/
The problem with the traits, is that the first one does nothing until you spend enough mastery points to get to the 2nd minor trait.
You mean hero points, not mastery points.
No elite specialization reveal this week (otherwise we would have had a teaser on monday).
My guess is that this friday we will get another ready up on core specializations since that’s what yesterday’s blog post talked about. We will hear some of the changes they have made since the last 4-hour stream based on feedback (such as the blood magic change) and we will hear about the engineer (which was very much a work in progress at the 4-hour stream).
You’re missing out a little, although some of it is explained in season 2. If I were you I would indeed look around online for summaries of the content (the guild wars 2 wiki is a good place for that). Remember that season 1 takes place after the personal story ends so you will want to finish that first.
All we know is: 1) “when it’s ready” and 2) 2015.
A lot of people are expecting a release on august 28th (based on pretty much nothing).
What is the point of actively not wanting GS on the Revenant? If you’re not a fan of the idea, then don’t use it, dummies.
Well.. Them getting a greatsword reduces the chance that they will get a different weapon (i.e. they get a limited number of weapons so either they get a greatsword or they get some other weapon). In addition, some people feel that there are too many greatswords wielded in the game already. So it’s not as easy as just not using them.
So what? Lots of people have iPhones, but does that have any bearing on what phone you choose to buy? No. If you don’t like other people using iPhones, though, you’re just gonna have to get over it. The amount of self-proclaimed entitlement that comes with a mindset like that astounds me.
I’m not saying I agree with the arguments I provided, those are just the ones used. Myself, I don’t really care either way, as long as the weapons the Revenant ends up with are fun to use and fit thematically.
