I enjoy thief because it’s the playstyle I like, and would be the playstyle of extremely skilled players(No I’m not talking about the “zomg mug cnd backstab stealth away i just killed a bad player” players). Being able to evade and shadowstep and stealth gives you the ability to control the small fights. Although it is utterly useless in zerg combat, it lets reaction determine whether you win or lose, not some gimmick design. I do not like playstyles like guardian where your character does all the tanking for you and you just heal while spamming skills. Thief seems to be more active. Of course you have the thieves who have repetitive monotonous gameplay which is boring(IE, mug steal backstab heartseeker heartseeker heartseeker heartseeker ect. and such.)
Maybe it’s because you also enjoy this playstyle?
Honestly I believe it will fix itself. Some of these, dare I say…bandwagon(no offense to JQ or anyone in this thread) guilds that hopped have a history of hopping when they get bored. IMO, the JQ before server transfer change was announced is the JQ I want to be fighting. They had even coverage as all of us. SoS had more, but they lost a bunch of guilds, and it would be an insanely fun and competitive competition. I loathe to see the day that neither SoR nor SoS attacks JQ at all due to the fact that there is no point, but rather beat each other to death for second.
random smoke aoes are nearly impossible to see and keeps are huge places.
Theres a big red circle to help point it out for you. If you can’t see it and your only argument is “the place is too big!”
Then it’s a L2P issue.
I love it when thief players defend their profession with most ridiculous comparisons and use the term “learn 2 play”.
Stealth is utterly broken, especially in WvWvW. Stealth = unfun for all those who are not using it. WvWvW would be better with the stealth and teleportation mechanisms completely removed or reworked.
GW2 has game mechanisms similar to FPS game. Now imagine a FPS game, where there are several professions. One profession, let’s call it infiltrator, can become invisible when he wants and no enemy action can reveal him from invisibility. Even if infiltrator walks into a cloud of smoke or enters water or enemy makes him bleed like hell, infiltrator is still invisible. And enemy with a rifle cannot even target him. While he is invisible the rifle bullets just don’t hit him even if you guess his exact location. He also does huge damage, his attacks are blindingly fast and he can teleport as well, move 50% faster while being invisible. Then we have another profession, let’s call it soldier, who has better armor, higher health, but his high damage attacks are slowly telegraphed and very easily dodged. Would this game be balanced? Hell NO.
And what specifically does this have to do with thieves hiding inside keeps? If you cannot see a red aoe blinding circle and know a thief is hiding in the keep, then there is nothing Anet can do for you.
FYI, CnD is easily predictable and dodgeable. Black powder heartseeker is a different story.
And this isn’t an FPS. Why are you using a comparison like that? This is an MMO. View it as one. As an avid FPS player, this is in no way has more than a few mechanisms close to an FPS. The comparison doesn’t work.
(edited by Doomdesire.9365)
IMO hammer is the best, but who says you can’t run both? Both are based on PVT builds, so there should be no problem. Whirling GS is a great skill in zergs, btw
Honestly, I may have to agree with you on the black powder heartseeker portion. Unlike CnD which is easily dodgeable, Black powder has no hard counter. There is nothing to dodge, and in melee range you will be blinded, meaning that they can pop out of stealth using backstab, immediately place a black powder and every shot you take will miss, long enough for revealed to go away. I’m usually anti thief nerf-or anti any class nerf for whatever. I think stealth is fine. I think thief is fine. I do not think black powder heartseeker is fine.
I’d also like to note that I’m talking about the combat aspect of it only. If a thief is using it to perma stealth to hide in a keep, standing in the black powder will give him revealed or will down his stealth time. There is no true perma stealth with this build if the enemy knows what he is doing.
“Hi, my name is John Doe. I am from XX server. I am superior than you because my server is better at open field fights/coverage/organization than you.”
How about everyone stop being forum warriors and taking credit for something in which the entire server worked towards. Some of you are making your respective servers look bad.
Peg legs are balanced, have a CD, making them in no way spammable, nor OP.
I was thinking about doing a glassy S/D S/P build. I wouldn’t have a shortbow for utility, but I think S/D S/P would be pretty good for wvw. Just pack a haste as a utility. Wear them down with S/D, and just when they think they have you figured out, pop into stealth, whip out S/P, haste, and Pistol whip them to take off a huge amount of HP if not killing them on the spot.
Forget about bags
It’s all about chests now.
Looks like it would be best if Sorrows furnace moved up and HoD moved down.
There are ways around this.
Try combining berserker + PTV with ruby orbs
You will get a nice mix of power, precision, crit damage, toughness, and vitality. Or you can try knights gear + valkyrie. Same results.
I tried doing zho qafa, but there was only two of us. Me and a friend…
It was so long drawn out and boring after killing the abomination and ooze that I gave up. I doubt we would have been able to kill the eye anyhow.
I did a test starting the other day in the Lost Shore map killing the Barracuda, Turtles and those big Scorpian fish or whatever they are as I was specifically hunting for armoured scales myself. Here is what I noted:
Test 1 – 2 hours without ANY kind of Magic Find gear but using a +50% Magic Find Booster + omnomberry bars:
Armoured Scales – 19
Large Scales – 67
Rares – 2
Greens – 7
Blues – 8
Whites – 7Test 2 – 2 hours with different char with FULL Magic Find gear with +50% Magic Find booster + Omnomberry bar:
Armoured Scales – 7
Large Scales – 80
Rares – 1
Greens – 9
Blues – 4
Whites – 13I know it looks odd as it seems I did better WITHOUT Magic Find gear but that’s what my drops were for each test being 2 hours on 2 seperate days with 2 sepearate chars.
Hope that helps in someway somehow.
I think it’s just RNG. Perhaps you got lucky on one day and not on the other? :o
Either way, we need a much bigger sample from multiple players to actually come up with anything.
Unfortunately, SoR is stacked during NA. Last night WvW is where the fun gets for choo though. We transfer back and forth, usually hitting up 3/4 BLs each night. Much fun to be had :P

You still find a way to turn my good intended post into a flame post. Congratulations, I now deem the Tier 1 thread to be the worst ever.
I wanted to be in Tier 2 because the almighty forum warrior hides in the shadows, unlike this thread where every other post is one.
FYI, the T2 matchup was so loopsided because SBI tanked hard. It would be pretty even with Kaineing and TC. At least it is for Blackgate, which is as powerful/if not more powerful that SoR.
Not sure that you can call it even, TC is clearly quite a lot weaker than Kain/BG.
You only need one even server to have epic fights and fun.
TC might be weak, but they can hold their own. They just lack the coverage(whether due to lack of players or too many players in dolyack parades) to fill all BLs. The BLs they are in, however, are pretty kitten impressive.
Here’s what I’m taking from Jeffrey’s comments today (btw thanks Jeff!):
He stated: “I’ve seen some posts that have correctly identified the specific event/boss”.
Keyword is “some”…note that he used it instead of “many”. (Refer to graph below)
I think we can safely remove the bigger guesses such as Zho’qafa Catacombs and Shadow Behemoth, and instead focus our attention on the less mentioned events such as Statue of Dwayna, the High Risen Wizard or Fire Elemental.
I’m going to go with the Risen Priest of Grenth. He’s the final open world event/boss in the game, and it seems to fit his loot table. It’s not an easy event and I’ve seen it fail many, many times (only completed it once myself).
If anyone wants to examine 14 pages of posts for “some” events…have at it!
You guys take his words to literally :P Some could mean anything ^^

I should make a thief killing montage…
Forums warriors and trolls are out in full force today! I’d like to go back to Tier 2 please. The constant ego contest here about individuals acting superior to one another is annoying and pathetic.
So how about that dueling group? Does T1 have one? T2 had one…and it was a blast…
also shouldn’t it cost more around 800g.
100 mystic coins = 9g
charged lodestone = 250 * 3g(each)=750
1500 oricalchum = .03 * 1500 = 45gThis is give or take a couple gold, but as long as you farm lodestones I’m sure you have a decent amount of mystic coins and orichalcum ore already stocked up.
Thank you for that! I guess I messed up my math somewhere…
Warrior, or guardian. Warrior is better at farming PvE, but guardian has better WvW aspects to it.
Haha. That’s too epic. I’ve seen a ballista do this but never a flame ram :o
What’s next? Involuntary spinning golems? Trebuchets??
I don’t think it’s dull at all. Actually, besides Tier 8 I think it fits perfectly…
honestly I would go for mats over gold farming. With inflation being the way it is I wouldn’t count on gold value, unless you can farm it up in a month. I remember in December a full set of crafted exotics would run for 12g, and now it’s about 30g.
On the other hand lodestone farming, especially charged lodestones is pretty tiresome. I would run a ton of CoE because they drop charged lodestones, and then use the gold to buy more lodestones.
Also make sure you have enough orichalcum. it is something ridiculous i think like 4500 pieces of orichalcum ore you need, assuming you are even a weapon smith to craft the blades. Since the rich orichalcum vein was gotten rid of it is going to be a chore and a half to get the amount of ore. I suppose you could farm and transmute 250 mithril ores to get them, but still that is a metric kittenton of orichalcum.
Anyways best of luck, but I wouldn’t put too much stock in gold nowadays. Things that used to be cheap are now really expensive, and unless Anet buffs the droprate of charged lodestones they are more than likely just going to go up and up. just my two cents though.
The overall amount of ori I will need is about 1500. I had to use the same amount of ancient wood logs to make llya…it’s a real pain in the kitten :c
CoE explorables I’d say.
Hmmm. I’ve only ever done one CoE explorable. I’d just like to ask, what is the reasoning behind this? Is it a good way to farm loot, or is it because it has a chance at charged lodestones? Honestly, I have no clue. Thanks for the response!
my ranger in full zerk can do a 7k rapid fire assuming every shot lands and enough vulnerability on a light armor uplevel. usually closer to 4k.
a thief can do 7k dmg by hitting 2 and also hit 2 repeatedly on no cooldown. 7K! 14K! 21k!
BAM.
well honestly i wanted to roll a thief before, but when i saw that u just have to press 2 buttons i changed my mind. I’d rather create an awesome combo with my mesmer or warrior and feel good after.(btw whe ever i win a 1v1 vs a good player i will bow to them for being a good player and not once i have bowed to a thief i killed)
This 500x over. I have no urge to play thief, because in WvW, they faceroll/hit 2 buttons to win and in PvE, 75% of thieves just fall over dead repeatedly. They have no skill to play well in PvP and more or less no skill at all in PvE. Why would anyone want to play this class? Oh yeah, to gloat over killing someone with instant 7k hits and being able to finish off someone from stealth.
Oh nice video – it proves all my points – thieves = no skill. Next. Try soloing a tower as any other class, go on, do it and post that video. Oh wait….
Anyone can solo a tower…it just depends on what server you play on. If it’s a low population matchup, even back in T2 I remember at night there were so little people that I could simply find a random tower, build a ram(multiple supply trips), ram down the gate, kite the npcs then kill the claimer…
Unless you’re talking about hiding inside a tower >_>
Those stat increases are way out of line, just because you are outmanned on a map doesn’t mean you should be unkillable 1v1 lol.
Just because more people play on your server doesn’t mean you should be able to take every tower/keep and ruin the fun for enemy players…
Simple solution:Give the buff in the presence of multiple enemy players.
I have made it my goal to get this epic sword. After doing some raw math I calculated that it would take over 1200G to craft…I have 40G…
What would be the best way as to acquire this weapon(minus TP playing and gem buying)? Should I specifically farm charged lodestones and save them? Should I just farm and sell the loot, and then buy lodestones?
Also, what have you found to be the most profitable in terms of actually playing the game? Fractal of the mists? Farming cursed shore?
Thanks for any input. I’m going to get this sword :P
That would be boring and long(as in, months long).
I would much rather have some dungeon. An extremely long and hard dungeon(hard as in, it requires a lot of coordination, teamwork, and thought process, not just 50 level 85 npcs coming at you). Upon completion, you will be awarded with a precursor. If the entire team wipes, you have to start all over. It will involve a bunch of things-from dragon slaying, to Jumping puzzles, to actual knowledge regarding the GW universe and it’s lore. The dungeon itself should take a minimum of 5 hours to complete, but it should be well thought out and fun.
That’s how I would do it…at least >_>
It’s been suggested, and I do believe the developers are working on it. Maybe it will be the return of orbs? Who knows.
I for one, would like to see
30% increase in vitality
20% increase in attack
25% toughness increase
It’s a huge buff, but if the enemy outnumbers you 3 to 1, then it actually starts to look like it’s not enough.
the problem is that anet has allowed perma stealth, the highest dps and the best mobility all on one class. it’s possible because culling allows permastealth without even speccing for it. that’s how he could take out those vet mobs and be perma stealthed. all we can do is to respectfully provide feedback.
Doesn’t have the highest dps. It has the highest burst(steal cnd bs) that has a 30s recharge rate. You can still cnd/bs but that wouldnt be the highest burst.
Who bursts more than a rogue using cnd and BS? I usually see a fully geared rogue hit me for 12-15k with those two alone with steal adding another 2.5-5k depending on crits. A kill shot does only about 12k to me and a shatter usually hits me for around 10-12k .
Rogues can do the BS and C&D every few seconds, and hit with BS more times if they use utilities and their heal, both warriors and mesmers have cool downs.
A full glass warrior can volley for 10K, then killshot for 12, or just switch to GS and whirling GS into them. Or you can run shield axe and evicerate. The axe autoattack is a nasty little bugger too. I’ve seen glass cannon guardians also down glass thieves(usually 10.8K-14K HP) in 3 seconds. Engi burst can also get nasty, although it might not hit more than thieves. Ele’s have 16K burst, but has a long CD. Mesmer’s also have some pretty insane shatter/furry builds that has low CDs.
Most classes can actually achieve the same amount of burst.
they also can’t go invisible every 2 seconds and run away from anything without any fear.
any other glass class is kittened against multiple opponents. thieves can take on a zerg and stop them capping a camp, or keep WPs contested by perma stealth wall hitting.
the only people who think thieves are not broken are people who play thieves and don’t want them nerfed even though they also know they are broken, and people who don’t play GW2.
Your information is outdated. They can’t prevent a cap anymore, not with the recent patch, unless they are visible. And CnD wall stealth is an exploit.
When was the last time you read patch notes/reviewed thief mechanics?
I also would suggest you compare warrior to a thief. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Listing only the advantage of a thief can be viewed as biased.
Indeed except that we can see warriors a mile away and it’s easy to see them prepping their long cast time high dps shots.

Can’t remember exactly what it said but something along the lines of,
AGG – We transfer after 2 losses
TSYM – Running Workshops
The AGG one was actually
“transferring when we lose”

I’ll start
Thief: Mobility, stealth, burst
Warrior:DPS, high HP pool, versatility(as in, you can go from 1200 range rifle to sword, with a variety of builds suited for anything)
(edited by Doomdesire.9365)
If the thief is using the CnD wall exploit, then it’s an exploit.
If not, then working as intended. It shouldn’t be to hard to find them since there will be random smoke aoes, npcs taking damage and randomly aggroing, random shadow refuges, random veils. It’s actually pretty easy if you know how their stealth mechanics work…

It’s a server problem. Happens to every server eventually. What really sucks is sometimes it only locks out one specific borderland.
Warrior isn’t a great option for this. They aren’t as mobile as other professions. Personally, I would go with tank ele/glass thief. Tank ele apply tons of CC and keeps the main focus, thief hides in stealth and bursts down players, and also finishes them. In the event that they run into a zerg, both have enough mobility to escape.
Whats wrong here? did they use fly hack?
You can stealth past the first set of Guards then shadowstep past the invisible teleport wall. If you see it happen it’s considered an exploit, so take sceenies and video evidence, then send it to anet. Don’t make any threads on the forums, as they are likely to cause flame wars
He will teleport to interrupt first stomp, then stealth to interrupt the second one. After that he’s got nothing left for awhile.
Report it and message the leaders in game. Threads like these will lead to flame wars.
Vitality tough cond
P/D condition thieves are already specced for those 3, so it would be a good choice.
When i want to do something solo on WvW, i alway roll my d/d elementalist. No one can beat them when we talk about mobility. With proper build/gear, it’s very hard to kill and deals nice ad sustainable damage.
Take a look at this playlist if you want some video of a very top d/d ele : http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLttydQxkm4qudK4xJT3_UvJ0ekkwq5lIH
Except a thief specced for mobility >_>
I found a build editor that incorporated armor and PvE/WvW stats
So far, build is looking good.
It…it just looks so easy to screw up that yak parade. One thief to cause mass confusion…
I wish I was there, with my thief, and fraps so I can record the mass murder that would ensue due to the confusion I would cause
Definitely not an exploit. It says it rezzes NPCs in the description. NPCs don’t have downed mode so it’s obvious the downed mode statement applyies to players, whilst NPCs can be revived from dead form.
