Basically what I’m looking for is a build that’s suited for zerg builds. I’ve tried zerker and condition(great for roaming), but none of them actually suited ZvZ. I also tried looking for a build editor where you can select your armor(for example, adding berserker to the editor), but all of them seem to be based off sPvP armor with no stats.
I experimented with a few builds in spvp, but it’s not accurate as to the WvW build. I’m hoping to achieve
4K clusterbomb crits(based on light golems in spvp)
16K+HP
50%+ crit chance
2200+armor
So far my results in spvp were
3-3.5K clusterbomb crits
16,695 HP
~50% crit chance
2240 armor
If I were to convert this build to a PvE/WvW build, would I be able to achieve my goal? How would I go about this? I’m guessing I would have to run some sort of hybrid
The build would most likely be 0/30/15/25, but the part where I am confused about is the gear set
Should I go PVT/Zerker combo?
Valkyrie/Knights?
Valkyrie/Magi?(I intend to use signet of malice during zvz fights)
Thoughts? Suggests? Would be much appreciated!
bump for more opinions!
Sad to see AGG and FoE leave. I was hoping for a SoS SoR BG fight, as even as it can get, but I guess that’s never going to happen with SoS having two major guilds shift off their server
There seems to be a lack of level 80 exotic dagger skins from my experience. I’m the type of player who likes particle effects. Weapons like infinite light, whisperer blade, foefire weapons, firebringer, are all appealing to me, but as a thief, the dagger options seem to be limited.
There seems to be no foefire set, nor a vision of the mists type set, nor are there any unique daggers with particle effects(fire bringer, infinite light, ect). Tear of grenth/jormag are nice, but they don’t really have a nice particle effect many players enjoy. Is there a remote possibility of adding more dagger skins to the game? I would love to see a foefire version of the dagger(maybe even have a green particle effect on a tear of grenth dagger), and Anet would be largely appreciated by me and others who are looking for more dagger skin options.
Honestly a good thief will do just as good with D/D, D/P, P/D, S/D, and probably even S/P
The problem S/P is that you get no stealth skills aside from utilities/traits
Choo does this at night. We place scouts on every BL and hop in with our ~20 or so + people in TS to defend stuff. The times when we do this are when there is nobody in the other TS channels. We’re outnumbered during some times of the night(usually the time between NA and oceanic), we use this tactic to help for that.
I think it’s quite the opposite of what you want. The server will the bigger numbers(well at least speaking in the higher tiers) will have queues on all BLs. It won’t matter where they place resources.
PRX and SF seem to be running a super zerg in SoR BL now. Come join in on the action! I noticed SoS seems to have almost no prescense in there. Let’s get some 3 way battles going!
This isn’t new and it’s not effective. Smoke fields give it away. The most simple fix? Stand in the smoke field, and you’ll get in the way of his heartseeker that is required to do this and end up giving him revealed. It’s 90% foolproof. Honestly CnD spam is better. You will know if he is there during a sweep. Random explosion and smoke AoE(they come with a red circle to help you out) give it away. Then it’s as simple as standing in the smoke field(which will give him revealed or decrease his stealth time significantly to the point where he can get maybe a shadow refuge’s worth of stealth before running out of initiative, which is when you apply CCs.)

All this would do honestly is cause people to bandwagon to servers. I know we have the paid gems change, but honestly, some servers out there and their massive numbers will always win WvW, and this encourages more people to transfer over.
1800 gems might be a lot to pay, but if I was in it for the bonuses, it’s a great investment overtime. I would transfer too, especially if they add these cool events that other players can’t get in on because we don’t have as much coverage.
Warriors are all around soldiers, they handle weapons, that’s what they’re about.
There is a difference between wanting variety, and just looking to get this or that weapon (For whatever fantasy) and the class not being able to use it. That suggestion is just downright stupid, irrationnal, egotistical and whiny while going at the reverse of everything a Thief is supposed to be, with toys and mechanics you shouldn’t even attempt to tamper with.
Just because it goes against the class doesn’t mean it won’t work.
Perfect example: Greatsword Ranger
Remember guys, variety =/= a buff. Thieves getting rifles don’t mean they’re getting stronger, it just gives them more build variety instead of p/d or backstab.
This has nothing to do with the skills posted above. I just replied because I felt it needed to be said.
Just wanted to bring this to attention. This individual somehow placed himself on top of Redlake Tower in JQ BL. All the walls were up as was the gate. I only noticed him because I was putting siege up. Elemancer class. Sos TSym guild. I killed him and he came back about 2 minutes later. I feared him off the side to his death, loot bag even popped up. Within seconds he “magically appeared” right in the same spot I had feared him off from. He was dropping AoE in the Lord’s room and the npc’s were not fighting back because of his location. This was one individual. No mesmer, thieves, etc in the vicinity. Screenshot attached.
I mean…can’t this just be done in private? Posting hackusations on here doesn’t do anything except cause flame wars…
Kaineing vs. Blackgate vs. dolyack parades
Who will win?
My personal bet-BG will win, but Kain will not be far behind.
Can’t we all just get along
Crap. Knew I shouldn’t have used them too much. That scrub that killed you was probably me…since I’m the only one using them…
They’re hilariously overpowered though. Nothing is funnier than paralyzing 5 guys who tried to kill you in a 1v5 >>
(edited by Doomdesire.9365)
How about we get some dueling in for the last 30 minutes?
It goes both ways around, the difference is that they expect enemies. If the other team keeps their guard up, it would be no difference.
Kain is moving up to tier 2 next week! Will they win tier 2 and become the new tier 1 server? Will they tank and go down to tier 3? Will they hold their own and become a tier 2 server?
Who knows!
BG TC Kain is going to be an epic matchup. Sucks I will miss it
Anyone got a score update?
SoR only 3K away from SoS! We’re making a giant push!
Here are some gameplay pics from today
When I was in klovan trolling the kitten out of JQ. I got in through a broken wall before reinforce, mind all you acusers out there >>

Not too many particle effect daggers out there.
Off the top of my head
Incinerator, corrupted, AC, wintersday, fractal dagger, arah dagger
There needs to be an infinite light dagger, or something…
They’re kind of meh in zergs. I would like to see 20 thieves using daggerstorm in a zerg though.
The backstab build is mostly a one shot kill every 45s.
Mug+CnD+backstab ~ 4000+6000+10000 in wvw to lvl 80.
Only to bunkers the damage is significant lower, like 2000+4000+7000.
But after the burst just press 2 for heartseeker.
This build is too op, and d/p permastealth is more than op.And come on seriously? You cant compare backstab to killshot or churning earth for very obvious reasons like cast time,CD and animations.
The backstab build is mostly a one shot kill every 45s on bad players.
Mug+CnD+backstab ~ 4000+6000+10000 in wvw to lvl 80 if they crit and your opponent does nothing (no blind, no dodge, no stun etc etc).
Only to bunkers, and people with fingers, the damage is significant lower, like 2000+4000+7000, or 2000+0+0.
But after the burst just press 2 for heartseeker especially if your opponent is in block or immune.ok, I fixed it for you.
kill shot in the crowd can be quite unnoticed and usually eles using churning earth teleport on the target to be sure to hit him.
i use basilisk venom in my build and stealth has 900 range. so they dont know the exact time i hit them and if i do, they cant use a stun break fast enough (nobody can) and i can land my full burst.
I do…
I play a tanky condition thief, and those pesky D/D thieves try to backstab me all the time. Seeing as I’m traited for stealth on steal, and my reaction time, I usually end up destroying the little rats
In fact, the last time I got killed by a D/D thief was a month and a half ago, in the middle of a zerg fight.
Never lost a 1v1 to a GC D/D thief. There is this D/P thief permastealth thief I played in which neither of us could kill each other, however.
Not to be mean or anything, but I wish JQ would just leave for a week so we can have a BG SoS SoR battle for extreme coverage balance….
That would be a sight to see
According to wiki
“Stone counts as a stun for stun breaker skill purposes, but does not count as a stun for stacking purposes”
Can’t wait for you to see what I’m working on now. You may never leave it.
Oh. My. God.
Jumping puzzles are the best thing in Gw2(I mean that in a good way). Now you have me excited
If you watch the video carefully you will see that the Mystic Binding Agent seems to allow him to batch the fragments into cores.
So for example normal you can do this,
2 Fragments + 1 Pile of Incandescent Dust + 1 Crystal + 1 Elonian Wine = 1 Core
With the Mystic Binding Agent you can do,
4 Fragments + 1 Pile of Incandescent Dust+ 1 Crystal + 1 Mystic Binding Agent = 2 Core.
I watched through your video and without actually being able to use the Mystic Binding Agent this is what I think it does. Remember these ratios…
1 Lodestone = 2 Cores = 4 Fragments = 8 Shards = 16 Slivers
Originally you could do this,
2 Sliver + 1 Crystal + 1 Pile of Radiant Dust + 1 Elonian Wine = 1 Fragment
To get enough Fragments to make a Lodestone you would need to do that above formula 8 times. Now with the Mystic Binding Agent it seems like you can do this,
16 Sliver + 1 Crystal + 1 Pile of Radiant Dust + 1 Mystic Binding Agent = 8 Fragments
You can then take those 8 Fragments and toss them into the forge like so,
8 Fragments + 1 Crystal + 1 Pile of Luminous Dust + 1 Mystic Binding Agent = 4 Shards
Then,
4 Shard + 1 Crystal + 1 Pile of Incandescent Dust + 1 Mystic Binding Agent = 2 Cores
And finally,
2 Cores + 1 Crystal + 1 Pile of Crystalline Dust + 1 Mystic Binding Agent = 1 Lodestone.
Again, I haven’t actually got my hands on the mystic binding agents so I am not sure. But, closely watching the above video and this is the conclusion I come to.
It definitely does NOT double the output. That much is clear from the video.
The OP states;
1 Wine, 1 Crystal, 4 Shards and a Dust = ONE CORE
1 Binding agent, 1 Crystal, 4 Shards and a Dust = TWO CORESThis DOES NOT HAPPEN in the video. Watch it. This is what happens,
1 Wine, 1 Crystal, 2 Shards and a Dust = ONE CORE
1 Binding agent, 1 Crystal, 4 Shards and a Dust = TWO CORES
If that’s true, since 16 onyx slivers(cost 1.5s, well they DID cost 1,5s) = 30s
So one lodestone = 30s, so long as you are willing to give up binding agent uses?
Is it time to invest in slivers, shards, cores, fragments before prices skyrocket?
That’s a pistol dagger build. The best counter is to stay ranged. Knock him back, knock him down. If he’s getting up close, he’s going to use the skill “cloak and dagger” which basically is a skill that gives him stealth as he stabs someone. That’s his main stealth. If you can dodge it, he’s practically dead. I was experimenting versus a p/d thief. I was using only auto attack shortbow, and he was using P/D. I kept dodging his CnD’s and his only stealth was healing, and shadow refuge with the occasional lucky CnD.
It’s all about perfect timing. Make sure to pack condition cures.
If you’re a glass cannon warrior. Use rifle. If he gets up close(which is hard for a P/D thief to do with zero gap closers), knock him back. Continually walk back when firing. When he gets in melee range and is about to Cloak and dagger, dodge backwards. Switch to GS every now and then and use whirling greatsword away from him, to gain more distance. If you have any immobilize, use it!
(edited by Doomdesire.9365)
You can improvise using peg legs to knock them out of shadow refuge. All you need is to remember the location of the downed guy. Pretty fun to play with
I hate rezzing in general. I absolutely despise the down system. Once dead, they should be dead.
You can have fun running back from spawn every time you die then. Meanwhile, I’ll be getting revived.
I have no problem running back from my spawn…I rarely die anyways…

I usually get the troll and kholer to fight, then kill both for the loot :P
Good times

See you next week!
My observations:
I am farming some mobs in frostgorge and saw a thief kill a lvl 80 mob in 1 hit with backstab. So I asked him if he does that in WvW and his reply was all the time. Screenshot attached for proof of this. Sure, he could just be saying that, but I’ve seen the exact same thing happen in WvW. Maybe not 1 hit, but I’ve seen them kill in 2. The fact that they can stealth from what roughly seems every 5 seconds is also slightly ridiculous. A thief without any support set can solo a supply camp as well. If you’re any other class, you will most likely need some support equipment to take a supply camp yourself.
I’m sure I’m going to get flamed for this, but this is just my observations.
Maybe its just because I’m a condition build, but I wish I could kill a lvl 80 as a ranger in 1 hit.
A warrior can kill a frostforge mob just as fast. So can a ranger, guardian, elementalist, engineer, and mesmer with the right glass cannon setup.
Seems like you have a problem with glass cannon builds, not the thief.
Oh please, zerg fights are pure AoE spam. Thieves and mesmers would be dead meat. Stealth and clones don’t do too much when everywhere you’re standing is in a meteor shower. All the classes you mentioned are roaming, duelist classes, which the exception of a elementalist.
Rofl, winners in WvW. There is no such thing as winner in WvW. Only a winner in individual brackets. There’s population. Tier one doesn’t mean your’e winning. It just means you’re in a bracket where you have the same population.
It should be based on who won in their tier.
Honestly I think something is screwed up on JQ right now.
Since the reset I’ve been sitting in queue for literally 1 1/2 hours a map and when I get in there we have 40 players MAX on the entire map and it’s like we’re outmanned.
Are you guys on SoS and SoR having this problem?
SoR is for sure, at least on EB.
Some great fights in EB with choo :P
Cake will be served.
Let’s get more duels in TC BL guys =D
I pop signet of shadows when I down someone and they are about to use their interrupt.
Stealth doesn’t break combat. All it does it make you become invisible.
The drop rate of the boxes, from what I have seen so far, would appear to be deflationary – not inflationary – in the aggregate.
Please explain. Is there another, more efficient way to convert karma into gold?
Buy exotic karma armor in orr and MF them. 160K karma will get you an exotic armor piece. But seeing how this doesn’t create gold, as it’s sold on the TP…my post is probably irrelevant to the topic at hand.
If they made some sort of friendly WvW map completion pact, I would just stand behind high up vistas and knock people down when they activate the vista.
If all goes planned, they should see themselves falling over the cliff in the vista screen.
This is a pretty good idea, given that commanders won’t have too much power. It should say which commander placed the order, and should have an expiration.
Post all your funny WvW WTF moments in this thread! I’ll get started
Two TC guys trading flame ram blueprints in the jumping puzzle. Out of nowhere an SBI thief pops out of mystic fountain stealth, steals a blueprint, then runs away. Lots of lulz were had
Poison is enough for me imo, but the more the merrier i guess…
