S = Engineer
A = D/D ele(and only D/D)
B = everyone else
The fact that you should have to ignore a turret engi and let him have a point just strengthens the idea that they’re too powerful. No class should be able to singly handedly hold a point like the current turret engis do. Not even bunker guardians or warriors in their prime were as effective.
Use a dueling room that has restrictions on builds/amulets. Sounds silly at first until you enter an unregulated 1v1 server and 80% of the players are running PD thief, turret engi, hambow, celery ele, or whatever the current OP meta is.

Fix skills getting obstructed
done
Okay so I did more testing, this time with an actual player as a target.
Results for human male guardian were as expected, 14 hits
But then I tried charr guardian… My combat log showed 12 hits
http://i.imgur.com/JsSbCdE.jpg
but my assistant’s(the target) combat log showed 14
http://i.imgur.com/GynX7Wj.jpg
We repeated the tests multiple times and it was the same result.
tl;dr probably combat log issue rather than an issue with whirling wrath, no need to reroll as human male guardian!!
Sorry for the bump but I did some more tests.
Used the exact same build each time, and the target was a heavy golem. Used a male asura, male human, female human, and male charr. Each test was carried out exactly in the middle of the golem’s model(to the best of my ability to judge the “middle”)
Originally I planned to do 20 tests for each but I stopped at the ten mark simply because the results were obvious.
Male Human – 14 hits, 100% of the time
Female Human – 12 hits, 100% of the time
Male Charr – 12 hits, 100% of the time
Male Asura – 12 hits, 100% of the time
tl;dr time to make a human male guardian
Edit: I would like to test if using Ascalonian Tonic on a female human guardian changes anything. Sadly I can’t use tonics in HoTM, meaning I can’t really test this unless someone from BG/JQ is willing to help out. If you’re interested PM me in game.

And please, for the love of god…fix torch 4. 50/50 chance of it getting randomly obstructed where it shouldn’t.
Run a condition build or prepare to fight at a huge disadvantage.
Engineer class will destroy any class that doesn’t run a cheese condition spec.
Thief in it’s current state is such kitten it’s not worth playing unless your only purpose is to troll people with P/D or decap. It’s really annoying when you have such a large majority of players complain about a noob stomp class while ignoring the glaringly OP classes even the most seasoned players have trouble against (I’m looking at you, condition engi, PU mesmer and celery ele).
Situational, at best. That’s my problem with the burn hyrbid guardian hype.
There are too many different guardian condition hybrid builds for different objectives. I can’t switch these builds every time I run into a player to fit my needs. Every thread I have seen praising the condition hybrid or condition guardian all fail to provide a solution. It’s always, “this hybrid build is great for 1v3s, this condition build is great if they have lots of cleanse, use this one if in a group fight!”
What if we want a build that works overall? What if we want absolute resolution in case we run into a PU Mesmer or PD Thief but we still want to keep heavy damage? I can’t see hybrid condition builds for guardian working well in that regards, simply because you’re trying to fit too many features into a class that can’t handle it. And yeah, you might find success against certain classes or bad players, but how does a single build work as a whole? How does it do in team fights, 1v1s, and against every build their is out there? How does it perform overall? Meditation Zerk excels in this because it’s trait distribution allows for much more. Burn hyrbid, not so much. It’s too spread out and all over the place. You’d have to tailor it for certain situations, and if you’re fine doing that, then fantastic, but for those of us who want a build that excels overall, burn hybrid isn’t for us. If Amplified Wrath wasn’t a grandmaster trait then the build would be much more viable.
Not directed at OP or anything, I realize this is just a composition of builds. I am merely expressing my opinion on the Hybrid – Burn hype.

Wait until you run into a 5 man turret engi team.
It’s kittening ridiculous.
Living story feels like a failed experiment. On paper, it sounded like a great idea(I mean, who doesn’t want content every 2 weeks??), and for the first few episodes it was truly successful. But after awhile it dwindled off and is continuously getting worse. The content is getting shorter and less meaningful. We’ve gone from episodes with awesome dungeons and new endgame to 30 minutes of a story, pasted with some new gem store skins and every now and then small changes to the game’s functionality.
The pace itself is excruciatingly slow. The entirety of season 2 can be summed up with: “Two small zones and a witchhunt for a dragon we have yet to see.” At this rate we will never fight modremoth this season. The most likely scenario is that Anet will spend another season of LS stretching out the Modremoth storyline without actually introducing the dragon, only to end all of it with a single episode in which the player finally meets modremoth, and slays him after 5 minutes of spamming cannon shots and spamming 100B. The best case scenario, of course, is that Anet ends LS season 2 with the death of modremoth and announces an expansion. The chances of that happening though seem minimal. A change of pace would also be welcomed. Two weeks is not enough time to put together real content. A month long break between content would be fantastic.
At the very least, communicate with your playerbase. Let us know where you want to take the future of the game. We used to read those articles published by you on the front page about the future of the game, but I have yet to see one recently. The uncertainty is probably the worst part. The talk of an expansion has been booming lately, yet you’ve all but remained quiet. Toss us a bone already.
(edited by Doomdesire.9365)
I wonder if Anet is working on something big (Expansion?) or if they’re just severely understaffed, because if neither then there really isn’t an excuse for this extreme lack of content. Alot of players, such as myself, have spent thousands of hours and some money on this game, and to see it in this pathetic shape is forcing more of us to quit everyday.
I mean taking weeks off for the Holidays is normal, but the minimal content in recent living stories and lack of updates outside LS is frustrating to say the least.
Please, no. If we turn WvW into a loot based game mode the only thing it’ll create is more karma trains of players who don’t give a kitten about combat. The only thing it will create is 80 man lag omniblobs spamming staff 1 while running from fights.
If anet wanted to attract more players it needs to establish a CORE. No game has ever thrived just on casual players. Casual players come and go. What you need is to find that small percentage left of GW2’s original core of WvW players and give them what they want. That means cross server GvGs, diversity of maps, a remodel of the PPT system, major class changes(change the kitten condi meta), ect. I know for a fact if all these changes happened overnight most of my old guilds that quit would return. Give casual players PvE. Let the hardcore ones have what they want in WvW.
Oh look yet another WvW is dead thread.
Obviously the people I see in WvW must be figments of my imagination, the queues I saw after reset on Friday were also figments of my imagination, in fact I must be a figment of my own imagination.
Paradox time -if you are reading this you don’t exist because I don’t exist because I WvW and see others in WvW but the OP says that WvW is dead therefore we weren’t there and don’t exist.
The alternative is that the OP is incorrect and WvW is not dead – which do you think is more likely?
Compared to pre WvW tourny SoR/BG/JQ days, WvW is dead. There used to be queues 24/7, and WvW was thriving. Hell you could find sieging, roaming, GvGs, and random parades in one map. This is a wasteland. The WvW community has been trying to warn Anet for years now, yet all these suggestions fell on deaf ears.
I mean kitten , does anyone remember when WvW was so populated people were complaining that there was too many players? When people actually cared about PPT? When commanders would stay up until 3AM to hold their gains, or have drunk karoake night while fighting blobs?

Something seriously needs to be done with the amount of shortbow 3 spam. I’m usually strongly in defense of thieves, as seen in my posting history, but for reals, after taking a 1.5year break from thief and using other classes, nothing stands out as OP in thief as the godkitten shortbow 3 spam. It’s way too potent for a last ditch method to stay alive. With stealth, there are a huge amount of counters that if well placed, can end a thief. This includes anything from dodging/blinding/interrupting CnD to sic em.
On the contrary shortbow 3 has very few counters. Immobilize has no affect on it at all, you can’t interrupt something you can’t hit(minus a few abilities such as wall), and the cripple it stacks on you allows them to gain a huge amount of distance. Against other thieves, this isn’t an issue, but try playing as a guardian with very little mobility against someone who could simply whip out their shortbow and spam 3 when near death. Pair this with the massive amounts of initiative gain that Anet offers thieves, and what you end up with is pure bullkitten.
Solution: Increase the initiative cost of the ability, and make it so that you can no longer use the ability while immobilized.
Just going to format it for you:

I read the first post, but for some reason, I just totally forgot to format it… Apologies, and thanks
OS and the memories of the “good” ol’ times…
Those were my favorite moments, out of EVERYTHING in GW2. I wasn’t the guy behind the siege either, I was the thief who absolutely enjoyed taking down the groups of 5-10 people camping up there. With the use of well timed knockbacks(rip planks), mystic fountains, and clever plans, you could eventually pick them all off, one by one, and then when it was cleared, you would have a plethora of peeps in chat praising your success, only for it to happen again.
Man, I miss that….
Here was a great video my friend made back in those times. It’s hilarious, for those who want to see it

It’s about 1.5 years too late to “revive” WvW. It’s dead, everyone has moved on. People aren’t just going to flock back because some updates made WvW is worth playing again. Why would they? The gaming industry has been bombed with a huge amount of quality games with more to come. It hasn’t happened in other games, and it won’t happen now.
Best thing Anet can do is introduce an entirely new game mode. 20v20 arenas, GvG GW1 style, anything BUT WvW.
Even if they tried to fix it, they have to change it entirely. WvW gets boring and repetitive because
A) Same maps
B) Same scoring system
C) Same opponents
D) Lack of balancing/class updates
E) Same playstyle and lack of variety
F) Horribly designed siege system
G) It was a game mode designed to appeal to casual players, hence the advantage in blobbing > skill, and where menial tasks like escorting yaks, scouting, ect. have no rewards.
Even if they change all that, like I said, it would be an entirely different game mode.
Regardless, Anet has zero interest in the WvW community any longer. All their manpower is being put to work on living story and creating new gem store skins. Maybe if they hadn’t adopted a 2 week living story cycle as a business model, then we would have larger, more meaningful updates because developers actually have time to work on them, rather than only having a mere two weeks to push a deadline resulting in subpar updates that at most, grant an hour of fresh gameplay.
I remember a WvW where there was an actual drive to win. Where SoR, BG, and JQ NA players would love the game mode so much they would stay up until 3 AM to play with Oceanics because they VALUED winning, because back then, it actually meant something. What is it now? Honestly, I don’t even know how it is up there anymore. I left the tattered WvW scene half a year ago because nobody gave a kitten anymore. There was no more competition, or camaraderie between servers. It was just pay guilds to come over and get an easy win. Since then I’ve ventured into the lower tiers where nobody really gives a kitten either, but hey, it’s fun to troll people in WvW every now and then, if there is even anyone on the map, but I digress. WvW is dead. Nothing to see here folks!
(edited by Doomdesire.9365)
No but I seriously regret getting Infinite Light. Anet seriously screwed us over after the wardrobe patch. All those hours of farming CoE and scraping as much gold as you can, finally crafting IL only for Anet to give the wardrobe skin to anyone who obtained the sPvP version with ease.
Pure BS

just spam shortbow 3 when you about to die
thats all i see top thieves doing anymore
and anet wonders why sPvP isn’t known for esports despite how much money they pump into it
Because people got bored. Not because a lack of players, or one guild stacking great players, or cause there wasn’t enough pugs to fight, OR because ppt(lol ppt).
People just got sick of the repetitive WvW. Anet does nothing to fix the game mode, instead introduces new RNG skins and stupid WvW tournies that nobody likes except(you guessed it!) pve players that want new skins.
People then look at new games like Archeage and Wildstar, that look refreshing and hopeful, and from there it’s GG for GW2. Blame Anet for the lack of content.
The rightful heir to the throne is actually hobo tron
5 gold says it was blackgate
1.2K twitch views and Anet still refuses to acknowledge GvG. The obsidium sanctum was pretty much queued for all 3 servers and the twitch views matched that of DnT’s PVE tourny.
There is huge support out there for GvG, yet Anet ignores the community.
BS. If you time your dodges, aegis, and blinds, or renewed focus you’ll never need shelter. Plus the extra condi clear on resolve is an added bonus.
Yet another guild defeated by Anet’s WvW policies
It’s too late to save the PPT meta. They’d have to introduce a new game mode.
Because people complain when BLOBS use it against 20-30 people. You’ll rarely here about a blob complaining about 20 people using ACs, mostly because those ACs won’t save them.
60 people using open field siege against 30 enemies isn’t uncommon in T1.
Stagnant WvW killed Sanctum of Rall, and the majority of it’s players left the game altogether. Choo/FEAR/TW/IRON/SAHP were all hardcore WvW guilds that outright just quit the game because Anet would rather cater to it’s PvE fanbase by encouraging karma training and alienate the WvW population. Now we’re seeing the effects of disastrous “updates” like seasons. That was just the first server. There are more to come. We’re already seeing most T1 servers declining.
(edited by Doomdesire.9365)
Got tired of fighting full 80 man map blobs who build open field siege every few steps or playing to starve supply. Simple as that. Playing against JQ SEA is not fun and we’re not going to do what isn’t fun
lol someone from bg complaining about 80 man blubs with acs
why the hell would you ever want sentinels
They’re just going to alienate their WvW fanbase by introducing these “seasons” which are only there to adhere to casual pugs that don’t WvW and take up queue times while complaining that they can’t karma train and destroying WvW.
Because EOTM players are casuals who feel they are entitled to karma training and only karma training.
yes take away one of the last remaining support features of the thief. brilliant.
Because stealth in itself isn’t support?
reread my statement pls

Are there any today? I need 12 commendations by sunday. It would be very much appreciated if anyone has some info on a guild that does public guild missions today(friday)

It’s only been 3 days. If the 2v1 goes on for the whole tournament I wonder what will happen to BG.
Well first they will most likely claim we are stacked or something, then they will tank for a few weeks and secretly recruit more guilds.
2v1 is fine, they are allowed to do that if they want. I think it kind of goes against the spirit of the game being a 3-way free-for-all, but it’s still smart strategy. The DDoS attacks on our TS, however, are not cool and need to stop. Things like that, hacking (not accusing anyone of this), or having spies on enemy servers that purposely destroy golems or throw down junk siege to cap the siege limit are all stepping across a line that is no longer fair play. I’m sure that the majority of JQ don’t know who’s doing it, so there’s probably nothing they can do, but it still sucks.
Where have you been the last ~year when JQ, but mainly SoR TS was ddos’d nearly every day? What goes around comes around.
Easy don’t leave your home server and just run to the one that’s winning.
What about those of us who went from a #2/3 server to one that isn’t even in the top 3 for it’s league?
This was prevent power house servers like Black Gate filling in weak time slots buying guilds for the week to win the weeks match up.
So what you’re saying it that BG has ruined WvW once again? ;P
If you didn’t want the other servers to gang up on you then you shouldn’t have
-Tanked pre seasons in hopes of getting more guilds
-Use deceit and lies to recruit
-Stack way more than beyond what was “needed”
-Bought guilds using money
It will never be viable so long as there is only one condition available. You can’t make a burn only based build unless you expect to be destroyed by any class with decent condition cure.
But having torch a condi weapon is a good start. The number 4 should stay the same(although they should fix it so I don’t get obstructed 50% of the time) and I agree with the suggestions above.
Which is exactly why so many people are quitting. Just this week we had 2 prominent hardcore WvW NA guilds quit, and there aren’t that many left.
