The new trait system is absolutely terrible beyond a doubt. It makes classes harder to level and leveling more boring and sucky because you have to wait a ridiculously long time to get traits that are core to a class to even function.

I’m not going to defend the trait system as I agree it was a step backwards, but there are absolutely no traits that are so core to a class to make it not functional while leveling up.

Why do I say this? Because I’ve leveled up 2 alts now during NPE and have hit 80 no problem. Once you hit 80 you can start worrying about what kind of traits you need for specific dungeon runs, fractals, wvw, whatever. But while leveling up you absolutely do not need any of them. I’ve hit 80 without spending a single trait point (through normal map completion means, and not EoTM). Quite honestly I forget I even have trait points.

Laurel farming account worth doing?

This is exactly why login rewards were a terrible idea. Basically richer people can camp multiple accounts and mess up the market.

“Richer people” lol are you for real? It’s like $10 when it’s on sale

Someone could get 25 accounts for 250$ or even more to manipulate the market, hence the “richer” as an adjective.

Hmm, so rich guy could either get 25 accounts for $250, log on to each one every day for log in rewards until they can get the laurels, to then sell on the TP for money. Or…the rich guy could save himself tons of time and effort and accomplish the same thing by purchasing $250 in gems and converting them to gold….

I’m thinking no “rich” guy is dumb enough to waste the time on buying additional accounts to slowly make money when they could get the benefit instantly.

It’s a possibility that someone might buy 25 accounts for the laurels, when you actually look at the numbers.

55 laurels a month for 25 accounts is 4125 T6 mats a month.
Assuming an average price of 30 silver each, that’s 1237 gold/28 days (or 44 gold a day) just for logging in.

250 gold atm is 20,000 gems is 2068 gold at 10.34 gold/100 gems. This means it will only take 47 days to get the 2068 gold, then after that it’s a additional 1237 gold/28 days or about 16,000 gold a year (assuming current prices stay the same) for no extra gems to gold conversions.

I would think some rich guys would rather take the 16k gold for $250 than 2068 gold, even if it does mean the effort of logging into 25 accounts and accepting the login rewards.

As someone with 2 accounts (the 2nd specifically for “laureling”), I can say that if I had 25 different accounts to log in every day I would go crazy. But, maybe there are people out there that are crazy enough to do it.

Personally I have no problem with the NPE. Mostly because I have 10 level 80s and I am mostly unaffected. I level alts up in EoTM or PvP for the most part.

Where I see the most complaints about NPE: Veteran players rolling alts. Or Veteran players who get their friends to play.

In reality, new players have no idea what it was like before, so they have nothing to compare it to, unless while they play they have a “friend” constantly saying “OMG you can’t use PvP button?!!?! Laaame! OMG you can’t enter WvW with B?!! You used to! Wow Anet ruined this game I’m so sorry!!”

Our guild recruits new players pretty regularly. I’ve never heard one of them complain about the NPE. To them, that’s the game, and they enjoy playing GW2.

Sure if they knew what it was like before they might have an opinion on whether it is better or worse, but without that knowledge, new players find GW2 to be enjoyable despite the NPE. Which to me means it’s just fine the way it is.

And for players that want to PvP from level 1, they almost always ask in /map or in guild chat and in 30secs they are told where to go to do it. Brand new players that join an MMO simply to play PvP are a pretty small minority I’m guessing.

Fairly New Player: NO Living World Season 1?!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Draknar.5748

Draknar.5748

OP, I don’t think you quite grasp what the idea of Living Story originally was, and why ultimately they changed it.

The idea was that the content would be on a linear time line, in an attempt to give it a feeling that things took place in the past and the current state would reflect that. To accomplish this, events that took place and finished stayed in the past. They weren’t replayable. You couldn’t just join an instance to go through everything that happened all over again.

As someone who has played since early release, I felt it accomplished that goal. Even now I think back on when the Molten Alliance formed, when the refugees from the conflicts had to go to Southsun, when we found out about Scarlet, when she attacked Lion’s Arch etc., it actually feels like something that took place in the past. Not simply some dungeon or raid encounter that I can experience over and over again.

I honestly liked it. I mean. In real life, if you weren’t around while an event took place, you can’t just go back in time and relive it. You can only hear about it from others that were there.

Obviously there were a lot of complaints from people that didn’t play GW2 regularly, because they felt they missed out on content. My perspective is that if you didn’t care enough about the game to even play for the year+ that LS1 was going on, then really who cares if you missed out on content. You weren’t even playing the game. Now all of a sudden you care because you missed out on something when you were actively not playing? I dunno, it just seems kind of….whiny.

But, I do enjoy the new system as well and it seems that the majority of people do as well.

There have been talks on how they would be able to bring back LS1, but don’t hold your breath on that one.

not cleanse i want to see resistance. cleanse is cool for one second and then oh wait never mind the mob just put it back on you and your cleanse is on CD. this is the first game ive played where there is ZERO resistances to such things as bleed, poison, burn, etc. and the mobs have usually free immunity to such things. i cant tell you how many times i would remove a poison dot that would last for a min just to have them put it right back with what is their basic attack (be it melee or ranged). also i dont want to get started on the condition damage mobs can put out but ours is crap.

so yes i know about cleanse but that is not resistance, which is what i want to see in the game… one of the many other things.

I feel straight resistance to certain conditions is a bit lazy. Players should have to learn to manage removal/reversal/transfer of conditions rather than just be able to ignore them completely. It makes a lot of those skills that you may seen and thought to yourself “converts conditions into boons? who the heck would want that?” a bit more useful.

I can’t speak for other players, but I change my utility and traits on the fly depending on what encounter is coming up in dungeons. I consider myself an above average player so I can only assume the really serious PvEers do the same.

If you expect to be able to pick one trait and utility skill setup and have it be optimal for every single encounter then I think you will be disappointed. Some encounters have a ton of conditions, that’s when you swap around to focus on condition removal. You may even need to change weapon sets. Personally I carry one of every weapon my class can use so I am prepared at all times.

And don’t forget some combos can be used to cleanse conditions when you don’t have any skills available that do it directly (combo field + finisher, if you aren’t familiar with combos, I suggest reading the wiki).

If that isn’t enough to protect us from knockbacks, then I dunno what is. Shield #5 is also useful against the boss on that fractal as well.

But that would be what the OP said as niches builds, just for that fractal?

Didn’t catch that last line he wrote.

I’m not sure there is anyway to have every weapon equally viable across all encounters. I mean, clearly a shield is used for defensive purposes, thus it would mostly be seen in encounters where you need it only.

You certainly don’t need extra defense skills while doing any kind of train, although Wall of Reflect is amazing in EoTM when you go up against an enemy zerg.

Most people are on auto pilot and don’t even think about it lol. Wiped zergs twice our size with some strategically placed walls.

But that has nothing to do with weapon skills so…

The only reason I personally wouldn’t recommend just making a new character is because you will miss out on the exclusive faces/hairstyles available only to the makeover kits.

In all honesty, name change seems unnecessary. Total make-over kit is the way to go. Maybe later on after you save up some money you can consider the name change.

I’ve had a lot of luck getting makeover kits from BL chests. Well, not so much good luck with that but bad luck with weapon ticket/scraps lol. I got a bunch of gems for Xmas as a gift and with it I think I got 20 keys. I ended up with 2 makeover kits and a hairstyle kit from it, but like 3 scraps and no tickets….

I can’t say this is typical, but from my experience I have found those kits to drop decently.

In the end it is RNG, you could end up with no kits. But keep this in mind: if you get a bunch of keys, you also have the chance to get tickets/scraps that you would then be able to sell the skins, usually for 100g+, and if you hold onto them, far more (depending on skin). I know my dreamthistle GS is worth tons of gold now.

The added ToK to reward tracks because, originally, you used to be able to spend PvP XP on it from a vendor. It made playing PvP full time a viable way to level your character outside of the Mists if you wanted to.

To keep the same idea, they added it to the reward tracks, since they removed PvP XP and only use rank points or reward points or whatever it is now.

Crafting has become little more than power leveling.

Or for Ascended gear

I leveled one alt with crafting just to see. That was two years ago. When I craft, I craft to make Ascended gear or sell the Ascended mats.

1-450 is used for two things only. a) means to get to Ascended mats point (450, and then of course 500 ultimately) b) for leveling.

Everything from 1-450 is pretty irrelevant in GW2 as it is.

What Crafting is it you guys are talking about do you have a Link for a indept explenation of what you have to buy etc?

WXP booster in EoTM will do wonders, but in general without any kind of boosters EoTM train is most cost effective as well as faster than any other options (crafting costs money so I’m excluding that, even though it technically is one of the fastest ways to gain levels, just have to drop crafts once they hit 400 then pick up new ones and do all over again).

PvP Tomes is a toss up whether its faster than EoTM. I can’t claim it is, but someone that PvPs all day and wins more than loses could likely rack up a lot more Tomes than I do in my hour or so of PvP. I typically only get 1-2 tomes per hour of PvP, while in EoTM I can level 3-4 levels.

Black Wings, bad purchase

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The Mist Herald backpiece is the same, can’t dye it. But how come there wasn’t this much back-lash?

Theory:

For the Mist Herald backpiece, people knew you couldn’t dye it (as is true for all backpieces) and thus chose not to purchase it based on this because they saw the flag color and it didn’t go with their look so they stopped their (most people—I’m sure people bought them simply because it’s kinda cool in WvW I suppose). I remember many comments like “man, if you could dye this flag I would buy this skin!” I’m sure their sales weren’t so hot on that backpiece.

But here comes some wings and common sense goes out the window. It’s like people saw wings, saw there was only 24hrs to buy them early, threw money at their screens and then had buyer’s remorse afterwards wondering why they can’t dye them, and why they aren’t more realistic.

Don’t buy things on impulse. That’s what they want you to do. And if you do buy things on impulse, don’t complain about it afterwards because it’s kind of on you at that point.

Change weapon while in combat?

Hey Devilmonk! Looks like you’re enjoying the New Player Experience™ added by anet in a recent patch

You see, anet recieved frequent reports that showed players often had difficulties understanding difficult concepts such as weapon swapping, utilitiy slots, downed combat, class features and other complicated processes such as breathing and walking at the same time.

So the solution was to gate each of those horribly difficult concept at artificial levels. Looks like you haven’t unlocked weapon swapping yet! But don’t worry, if it weren’t for Anet locking that content away from you, you might have gotten lost, scared and confused and chocked to death on your own saliva or something.

So you should be thankful you can’t swap weapons yet, heavens knows what a chore it can be doing such a difficult task almost daily!

Please note that weapon-swapping has been level-locked in the game since launch.

It’s less embarrassing if you do some research before engaging in overblown rhetoric.

They don’t care. They enjoy perpetuating the notion that the NPE is absolutely terrible.

They would completely ignore the fact that the time it takes to get to level 15 has been decreased (leveling speed increased) almost to the speed it used to take to get to level 7 before NPE which is when weapon swapping originally unlocked. If they admitted things like this, then all of their rant posts would simply look foolish and uninformed, so they throw on their blinders and continue with their NPE rants.

You are never expected to grind mobs in this game. In fact, I highly recommend never grinding mobs unless you have multiple XP boosters active.

Hearts are merely one avenue to level up. I highly recommend exploring (keep an eye on mob levels, anything 2 levels above you will likely give you trouble if you are new). Stay within your level range and look for events that pop up. Events are a great way to level up in addition to hearts.

I also recommend travelling to one of the other race’s starting zones to give you completely fresh content. To get there, go to your race’s capitol city and look on your map for a purple swirling portal that goes to Lion’s Arch. When you arrive in Lion’s Arch you will see multiple portals to the other race’s capitol cities. Pick one (at random if you wish) and then find your way to the exit and into their level 1-15 zone.

Normally I’d say to go through Heart of the Mists, but I don’t believe you have that button unlocked yet.

Become familiar with Lion’s Arch. It is essentially a hub for everywhere else. Including access to WvW/PvP if you want to check that stuff out before the game unlocks the Tooltips explaining it. Be warned though, if you go in before you officially have it unlocked you may find yourself very confused with what to do, but you have the choice either way.

It’s an aesthetic money grubber in a game where you can’t actually fly. The irony is that for me personally they represent a huge “I’m a moron” sign over most players heads. I’ve seen a handful of players rocking them that look awesome, it clearly suits that character and theme but for most it’s just a “look at me…I got the new skin” sign.

Sorry to hear it’s a frustration OP but they will be old hat next month when Anet comes up with it’s next immersion breaking skin….or just wait for the expansion when every second player and their dog will be a Revenant.

Well, I don’t consider myself a moron, and I have purchased the wings. Why? Well, they are a pretty cool looking skin and I figure that at some point in the future, I may have a character that would look pretty awesome with them on, so might as well get them now.

At the moment my current alt wears them, simply because when you buy the item from gemstore, you get free backstraps and free use of the skin, in addition to unlocking. I just threw them on my current guy who didn’t have a backpiece. Most of the time I hide it, but every now and then I unhide it. Mostly to fit in :*(

That’s what i’m saying tho, it might not be a better game, but it would be more successful and popular. It might not appeal to us, but it will appeal to more people other than us.

But that’s not what most of us want. I personally don’t want an MMO that appeals to the vast majority of gamers. I want one that appeals to a large minority of players. I love the community of GW2 and having it appeal to the masses will ruin that.

Just my opinion.

silly and immersion breaking weapons everywhere.

This can’t possibly be anyone’s opinion. Considering the silly, immersion breaking skins that exist outside of SAB…

I think a weapon skin that is being populated/generated via some Asuran computer technology is far less immersion breaking than a bow that shoots rainbow unicorns, a disco ball mace, or heck even a greatsword that allows you to see into some other dimension that also changes dimensions based on time of day (still not sure what the twilight/sunrise/eternity skins are referencing, is it heaven/hell does Tyrian lore even have heaven and hell?)

Uhh… twilight and sunrise are both times of day, and eternity is a concept of “forever” that has nothing to do with heaven or hell. The skins visually reflect morning and evening, as well as the night sky, in the case of eternity.

They certainly do not. I can see galaxies in my Twilight…. like nebulas and such. Take a look into the when you get a chance. It isn’t just a night scene.

Hope to see HOT has more than 10 jumping puzzles <3

If you haven’t done the 30 gold badges in SW yet, then let me suggest trying for that achievement. If you like JPs, you will enjoy some of the badge locations immensely. I love JPs and I’ve had to rage quit multiple times lol.

So basically you don’t think it’s fair that people can get 10AP per day by doing easy tasks, even though you have the same exact access to those easy tasks.

I get your point, but come on, we’re talking about 10AP that you, as a clearly capable player, can complete in 7-10min…

I do the things you’ve listed and take the extra 10min for easy AP…

You needn’t think beyond it being easy AP for everyone.

Then they are CHORES. The whole concept behind an MMO is CHOICE. PvE dailies don’t reward your choices of play, unlike the pvp dailies.

Ah, well the term chore is mildly subjective. What some consider a chore, others may not. I consider running pretty much any Arah path a chore. When I do it I am doing it because I want the rewards for completing it, but I do not enjoy doing it. I made the decision to do content I don’t really enjoy for a specific reward.

Dailies are the same concept. Do you want easy 10AP? If you do, then you may have to do some tasks that you consider chores. Chores, mind you, that are extremely easy and fast, which everyone can agree are the best kind of chores.

Just sounds like the whole point of this thread is:

“I don’t think doing such easy tasks should be rewarded with 10AP!”
“Well, aren’t you able to do the same exact easy tasks for that same AP?”
“Yea, but I don’t wanna!”

3 Years ago i start playing gw2, now i quitted because there was not mutch of a nice feeling when playing without capes, any oldscooler likes to look more scary.

I guess you really love capes

Oddly enough, in real life, wearing a cape doesn’t not make you look more scary. Just makes you look weird lol.

Never heard of someone quitting a game because it didn’t have capes.

If I had a mount I would ride it from A to B and join in on any action along the way.

I don’t believe this to be true for the majority of players. Sure at first you might because you are excited about having as mount. But if you were on, let’s say, one side of Cursed Shore, and you needed to get to Arah, I strongly feel as though 99.9999% of the population would WP there instead of mounting up and running.

From what I’ve seen, most new players are pretty happy with the NPE, when there’s isn’t a veteran telling them what they can’t do.

So much this.

If veteran players would just let their friends play it and unlock it gradually, they would have no clue otherwise. It really does unlock fluidly, unless you have a friend that keeps saying “oh man, you don’t have traits yet? you can’t click the PvP button yet?? omg you don’t see vistas on the map?? oh wow you can’t enter the WvW menu yet? that’s so lame you totally used to be able to, man they really screwed this up, the game used to be so awesome before, I’m so sorry man, I would understand if you want to quit.”

If you really want them to enjoy the game, tell them to play it, accompany them while they play, and let them discover it on their own. I know plenty of people brand new to GW2 that have gone through the NPE and still thought the level up experience was great simply because they didn’t have some negative person talking about how terrible it is now…

It’s not terrible. It’s different than what we had, but if you are completely new to GW2 it’s enjoyable and properly paced.

So according to the GW2 wiki it says that before i can join a dungeon in a group with other players i have to beat the dungeon first by myself in story mode.

Acceptable…

However i cant seem to do that because the gunners in crucible of eternity snipe me down pretty quick.

Should i just reroll another class to 80 and then try again?

No no, you misunderstand. You can run dungeons whenever you want regardless if you’ve done story mode. You just can’t host your own Explorable mode until you’ve completed Story mode (in a group, not solo, soloing dungeons in this game is extremely difficult if you don’t know the cheese tricks, and even then they are very time consuming for the most part)

Warriors are one of the best support classes, but you want to run banners.

Elementalists are great ranged DPS (best in game actually) as well as being able to play support well.

Guardians are great support with constant boons/reflects/absorbs and can also do upper-mid level DPS.

Rangers are a solid ranged DPS option with decent melee.

How to level??

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Draknar.5748

Draknar.5748

You don’t spam events, you simply explore and do events/hearts that you come across if you feel like it. Pick a 1-15 zone (Caledon Forest, Metrica Province, Wayfarer Foothills, Queensdale, Plains of Ashford), explore it until you feel you want to have a change of scenery, then go on to one of the others listed above and do the same thing. You level quickly in this game if you do events, hearts, POIs, SPs, Vistas, etc.

Just wander at your leisure, don’t even worry about doing 100% completion in zones unless you are OCD about leaving unfinished zones, but you can always go back later and finish what you missed.

They have to be in the AoE circle for it to take effect.. Quite logical, no?
The pulses means that the blind is re-applied on every pulse.. So if an enemy stands in the AoE, the blind will make his first attack miss, but afterwards the blind is gone.. So the reapplying of the blindness with the smoke field blinds him again..

Thank you.
Yes, it is logical, but like I said, the circle is very small and I have yet to see myself in a situation where 5 of my enemies are all standing in it. I usually get 2 or 3 of them to all be in it. So, I assumed my “logic” might not be GW2’ “logic”.

So, first pulse is activated at the start of the skill, the second one at 2nd second and the third at 4th second?

In many dungeon encounters you will find stacking in a corner to be the popular strategy. In these cases you will find it more common to get 5 mobs into your small circle.
