I can’t imagine Vanilla GW2 will be any more dead than when any other game comes out with an expansion. 95% of people will get expansion, the last 5% of people will play Vanilla only until they save up the money or just outright quit because they simply refuse/unable to spend the money for the expansion (sad state of affairs if that’s the case, if someone literally can’t save 1$/day until they have the funds necessary then they don’t deserve to access that content anyway, like no joke, put 1$ every day into a jar or something, heck even $0.50/day would suffice honestly).

I’m gonna say Elementalist.
Very dynamic play style and is highest DPS in game when played properly, thus requiring the most skill IMO. On the flip side, if you play it poorly, you will likely hate the class as you will be dying constantly and/or your DPS be poor.
Mesmer is my vote for 2nd in terms of fun to play and requiring high skill to play optimally.
Bottom of the list is Warrior. Hands down. Not fun to play, mid-range DPS, low skill requirement. However, a poorly played warrior can out DPS every other class assuming they are played equally as poor. If that makes sense lol. Basically you can be bad as a Warrior and still get by without too many people noticing how terrible you are.

Ok, so I actually understand what OP is saying. He’s a new player so he doesn’t quite understand the game yet. My wife does the same thing. She never has bag space or bank space. So once a week I have to go through her inventory and bank and clear out all of the stuff that does not need to be saved.
OP, trust me. If you actually end up playing this game in the long run, those loot boxes you have been saving are one of thousands you will get. You do not need to save them. At all. Ever.
Just open them. Like no joke. In this game gear comes easily. You don’t need to hold onto things to use on other characters. Salvage them, sell the mats. By the time you actually need gear for whatever character you think you are saving your current items for, you will be able to easily afford it from the TP, or from karma vendors, or from badge vendors.
I know it might sound different than other games you may have played, but in this game, loot is handed out like a going out of business sale. Do not fret, do not think you will regret getting rid of some of the things you saved. You will replace it quickly and with better things naturally as you play.
Your bank should hold things like Tomes of Knowledge or Skill Point scrolls or Boosters or something.

Can confirm silk price has not risen. Just did a buy order for 250 @ 1s99c, it filled in 13seconds…
One year ago it was the same exact price, 2s. Not sure what OP or even what a lot of responders are talking about quite honestly.

most endgame sets dont actually require
60-90 hours of active play to achieve.it may take you a couple months of raiding to get best in slot, but you are probably only raiding for those drops 2-3 hours a week, not 2-3 hours a day.
the daily grind method of gearing up tends to take less than a half hour a day, of that type of activity.
Also other games tend to have 1 – 3 possible best in slots per class. This game has like 24? different gear stat sets.
May I ask what in God’s green earth does how long it take to get a BiS set from that other game have to do with the price of Silk? Your longstanding agenda of comparison between GW2 and that other game is NOT part of this thread and your attempts to twist every thread into that comparison is getting tired. If you want a BiS in that other game, go play it for 2 months and get it.
He also failed to mention that in those other games, you have to re-grind that BiS set every new patch that adds a new tier of armor. In GW2 you work your grind once.
If you add up all of the time spent keeping a character at BiS in other games, it would blow GW2’s 60-90hr estimate completely out of the water.

an interesting point, but it doesnt really translate well.
if someone said i will pay you 1 million dollars, but you have to do 90,000 hours of work first, most people would say screw you.
so its not simply about the totals, its about how you experience it.
I mean, if you had to do all the work to buy a house before you can live in it, most people would not have houses.
or, by the time they got it, they would be to old to actually enjoy it.
btw the 60-90 hour estimate, was just for armor alone, and that is the time to get the silk, some of the other required elements are not properly included, like linen, cotton, empyreal obsidian etc.
Ok, well if you want to throw completely exaggerated numbers out there. Like 90,000hrs of work (45 years @ 40hrs/week for $1million)….
It’s more like this:
We will give you $100,000 for 1000hrs of work with 20% accrued interest every year after that without having to work any additional.
Or we will give you $10,000 for 100hrs of work. But you can keep signing up for another $10,000 every 100hrs until we decide we no longer need your services (game closes down)
The second guy will have to continue to work for years to come, while the first guy invests his time up front and then gets to kick back and retire, never having to worry about working again unless he for some reason wants even more money, then he can sign up for another contract.
I think it’s clear which option is better.

@Draknar.5748: you have bad way of thinking, we get way to many ascended material. In fact we get it tons more that we can spend. It’s pointless to fill your space or bank with 100 bricks of material if you only need “hand full of bricks” to make a set or weapon……………………………………… and turning huge amounts to bricks is consuming a lot of gold for those who don’t pve daily.
I’m not saying it’s the best system they have, but you have the means to reduce that space. There are two options: 1) spend karma, some money, and 30min to refine them all or 2) start deleting them. As you said, you get way too much, and I certainly agree. You have to get past the urge to hoard them all in your bank if you honestly feel you will never use them, or likely won’t use them.
If you feel you may one day use them, then start refinin’!

silly and immersion breaking weapons everywhere.
This can’t possibly be anyone’s opinion. Considering the silly, immersion breaking skins that exist outside of SAB…
I think a weapon skin that is being populated/generated via some Asuran computer technology is far less immersion breaking than a bow that shoots rainbow unicorns, a disco ball mace, or heck even a greatsword that allows you to see into some other dimension that also changes dimensions based on time of day (still not sure what the twilight/sunrise/eternity skins are referencing, is it heaven/hell does Tyrian lore even have heaven and hell?)

I used to have this same problem. Until, you know, I discovered you can in fact refine them. It costs 15s for reagents and 2 bloodstone shards (4200 karma). 100 mats now become 1.
What you are asking for is in the game as you already know since you mentioned it. It sounds like you would rather deal with a full bank than to spend the small investment of money and karma to free that space up.

The buy price according to GW2spidy is 2s5c. A year ago when I made my Ascended armor, I was putting in buy orders for 1s95c-2s….
How much silk is actually selling at that price? Were there 699,111 stagnant silk buy orders a year ago? The buy price doesn’t mean much in an environment where so many buyers are lining up to outbid you.
Check the link. It shows historical data on actual sales.
And the link shows the number of buy listings steadily climbing (from 591k last week to 716k today) while the number of sale listings continues to drop (from 751k last week to 663k today). That tells me that those buy orders are stagnating because the sell orders are being filled faster than they’re posted. I doubt your buy orders are going to be filled in a timely fashion under the current environment.
Suppose there’s only one way to find out, haha. Gonna have to list some and see.
But I don’t think that data is as useful as you think it is:
Jan 2014: Sell listings 226k, Buy listings 687k
May 2014: Sell listings 514k, Buy listings 850k
Sept 2014: Sell listings 255k, Buy listings 830k
Jan 2015: Sell listings 877k, Buy listings 487k
Today: Sell listings 663k, Buy listings 716k
It ebbs and flows all over the place.
EDIT: I picked random days in each of those months.

LS failed as everyone but Anet knew it would. Now they are trying an expansion with absolutely no other content in between… which will also fail.
How do you define failing here. Because I’ve especially enjoyed LS2. Good story, fun challenges, new maps, enemies, skins, bosses. I mean, for non-expansion content I’d say it was quite successful.
LPT: In general discussion don’t use universal terms like everyone, no one, always, or never. It detracts from the point you are trying to make because typically someone can point out instances when it is not true and unfairly turns your comment into exaggeration or hyperbole when you really meant “a lot of people” or “a majority of people”.

I don’t understand the people that are saying they don’t want SAB back. What difference would that even make to them? It’s like saying you hate Keg Brawl so it shouldn’t be around at all. If you don’t like Keg Brawl you certainly don’t have to play it. Same goes for SAB.
I bought an Infinite Coin. I knew full well when I bought it that SAB was seasonal content. It had appeared twice in a somewhat consistent pattern, enough for any logical person to believe it would return around the same time the following year and each year to come.
At no point did anyone who bought the coin think that SAB would simply not come back again ever. We figured once a year and that was good enough for us. We’re closing in on two years now without so much as a hint that it will be returning soon.
That’s why people are upset.
If people are really that against SAB, then maybe SAB should only be open to people who bought the coin, but I have a feeling that suddenly all of the people that don’t want it back will want to play the content and cause an uproar that they don’t have access to it now.

I see your point. In the case of the 4 man guild. Honestly the first thing we’d do would be to try and get the other 3 people to join us. That way they are all still in the same guild. But beyond that honestly we would work with someone if that was their situation. We’re extremely understanding about things like that, and have a Guest rank we can use if someone wants to be a member and is OK having no real guild privileges.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Hate to hear this, OP, but honestly, that’s how the market works. If I quit every time I posted something and was undercut I would have quit a long time ago.
You need to either be extra patient (which prices will likely keep dropping because of HoT legendary announcement about precursor crafting— and honestly you should have anticipated the prices decreasing before you even posted) or pull it and eat the 200g. Those are really your only options. That or quit.
I know you said you were watching the TP prices, but did you watch the TP supply as well? Did you look to see how frequently Eternity sold/was posted? All of that information is pertinent as well to time your posting and set pricing.
Also, think about the guy who had posted his Eternity for the 4198g that you turned around and listed one for 4k. You did the same exact thing to him that someone else did to you. Eternity isn’t like selling ectos. If you anticpated that people were chomping at the bit to spend 4k then that was poor judgement.
It’s a terrible feeling when someone undercuts you, especially since you lose your list fee. But, if you are OK doing it to someone, then you need to be OK with someone doing it to you.

This detracts from my enjoyment of the game to be honest with you. I used to wander freely, as I wished, collecting as I wished and NOW it seems that I have to be ‘’ordered around’’ to do things just to get my daily? Surely this is forcing the player to do something against their will and in fact causing them unnecessary distress when despite no matter how hard they try, they simply cannot finish daily.
Ah yes, the “I’m forced to do this” comment. You can choose to do the daily or not without it affecting your gameplay. If you want the 10 AP, there are things you need to do to get it. For example, last night’s daily took me 4 minutes (my fastest ever). Ascalon vista viewer (black citadel), Ascalon miner (black citadel home instance), Master of Ruins (WvW).
If you truly want the AP, then you must choose to do the content required. Otherwise continue playing normally and don’t worry about it. It won’t affect your dungeon runs, FOTM, WvW, PvP, RP, whatever content you like to play.

Stealth in this game is kinda of a joke, you cant brake stealth with damage or see it if even they are right next to you.
To have good kind of stealth in mmos you need to have good counters and this game have no counter at all…
But they also take damage while in stealth. You know they will get in melee range. So either keep moving, or start throwing AoE/cleave attacks around. I’ve killed many a thief doing this. They unstealth downed. Which is a nice feeling.

Posts like this make me laugh. I used to deal blackjack and it always amused me when someone would lose then get more money to “win it back” then lose again. Then they would get all upset at me and/or the Casino. I always wanted to tell them that there is no one behind them holding a gun to their head.
That’s why you should always start with enough money to do progressive betting.

Hey hello. How is 2012?
Warrior is 5th in dps now, very close with guardian at 6th so Top tier dps not do much. But seriously Warrior were overpowered when the game was launch and now that warrior was nerf on several occasion ppl freak out about it and complain that it was too much. What is the right balance, its hard to say. Personnally, I find warrior in a good place right now. Its part of the meta in WvW, any speed run want to have 1 for banners and in sPvP we have a couple of good build.
Does it still need a couple of tweaks to make it more balance? Probably, but I personally feel the warrior is in a ’’ok’’ situation right now. Mesmer and Necromancer probably need a little bit more love right now than the warrior.
Yep, warrior is top tier DPS if you want to just mash 1 and occasionally 2 as your combat strategy. If you compare all classes and only mash 1 and occasionally 2, warrior is definitely top tier.
When playing the classes properly, Warrior is far from top tier DPS.

Er, what? You get maybe 2-3g per hour in SW, but never 30.
Either you are doing it wrong or you sell nothing and just look at the gold you gain directly. Because you can do between 20 to 30 gold without much problem. Of course if you complete the map from 0% to 100%, do the breach and the vinewrath and nothing else you won’t earn much. The breach, Vinewrath, Labyrinth and Chest farm are the most profitable in SW, try to stick with those.
^^ He’s right. You aren’t farming SW properly if you are only getting 2-3g/hr. I average 12-15/hr, but I don’t claim to be ultra efficient at it.

That’s what I think people don’t understand. Some guilds are in it for numbers, influence, whatever, but others, like us, are in it to create a reputation over the many years we will be playing this game.
As a guild that does not require 100% rep, with all due respect, we’re in for the exact same thing. Except that our methods are different. If we lose people because their friend insists that they play with them, we don’t lose them for forever, they still hang out with us. We’re in to create a long lasting community with a friendly casual environment and one way to do that is to make sure that our guildies don’t feel chained to us.
The same way that we don’t have log in requirements. The idea is, by being a good guild we’ll make them want to play with us and want to log in. That’s what we strive for every day. And surprisingly enough we had pretty good results so far. There are a few guildies that are in multiple guilds, however they still drop by daily, they represent, talk with us, help out, run events and stay on our teamspeak with us. The idea is to have fun, not to raise ultimatums.
And just like you we’re a multiguild community. Just a different one at that. So no. Not only 100% rep guilds are in for the long haul and the community, not just numbers.
We encourage cross guild relationships. There are several guilds that we run events/dungeons/fotm with and honestly if a member of ours would like to join another guild, we don’t stop them, but they can’t represent the other guild (unless it’s a TTS/guild missions/bank situation).
I personally don’t feel that “I want to play with my friend” is a valid reason to represent another guild, simply because you can still play with your friend, regardless of guild tag. Do people feel that they aren’t able to party with their friend and talk to them anymore because of their guild tag? If that other guild doesn’t require 100% representation then what difference does it make anyway if you are representing us and your friend is representing another guild? You’re still friends and are still playing together.
But I appreciate your comments, it’s good to hear other guilds are in it to build a reputation beyond being a catch all for anyone and everyone. I am curious, if let’s say 95% of your members don’t represent (hypothetically), how you are able to have those players’ personalities, skill, values, etc. reflect on your guild and not whatever guild they are representing at the time. It’s not like people ask what other guilds you are in. They will have a smooth run with someone in a FoTM50, look at their tag, and associate that player with that guild, and not yours.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I’ve convinced some of my friends to return and log in again. When they saw they had to spend 1400 gems to catch up with Living Story, they just logged off and said they would probably never log in again…..
Probably not the best way to welcome a returning player…. And not the best way to convince them to buy an expansion pack….
Why wouldn’t you just run them through the Living Story for free? I assume you’ve unlocked them all. We host living story sessions for guild members that don’t have them unlocked. We go through them all in order. I’m surprised you simply let them quit rather than even suggest this.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
As someone who is part of the leadership of a 100% rep guild, hopefully I can give some insight as to why we require 100% rep.
For starters, upon recruitment (we interview all potential members), we make it very clear that we require rep across all characters. There are no hard feelings if someone decides that’s not for them. We say our pleasantries and go our separate ways.
Our guild is in GW2 for the long haul. We are trying to build the guild into something great. We don’t want to just have numbers, we want quality. We want members that are helpful and we want them representing our guild as a way to show others what our guild is about. Had a blast running in a PUG with 3 members from <insert guild>? Awesome, maybe you will ask about their guild. Maybe you see another member in a different setting and you think “Oh man, I had a good time with those other guys, I bet this guy is cool too!”
Beyond that, we want to recruit people into the guild that are looking for a home. We are in GW2 for the long haul and want to find others that are as well and want to create a long-lasting community that stretches across various games, not just GW2. You simply cannot create a strong community identity if your members aren’t even identifying themselves as one of your guild members. You may as well not be a member at that point.
We aren’t simply a guild with a bunch of people to use as a /LFG channel. We are after a specific type of player, and that player is one that is OK with 100% rep across all characters. If you are not OK with that, that’s fine with us, you simply will not be a member.
Now, we aren’t stupid, we understand that there are reasons to be members of other guilds. We allow you to have your own guild for banking purposes. We allow you to join a guild like TTS for world boss purposes. We allow you to join a guild that runs all guild missions (even though we do all at this point, earlier in our timeline we did not) on specific days.
But if you want to join another guild for the social aspect, then you need to pick them or us.
We could care less about influence, merits, etc. We have everything we need from that. It’s more about having our guild synonymous with good players, strong characters, solid values, etc. We want others to see our guild tag and know right off the bat that they are playing with genuinely good people.
That’s what I think people don’t understand. Some guilds are in it for numbers, influence, whatever, but others, like us, are in it to create a reputation over the many years we will be playing this game.
I know many mega guilds with 500 players that have maybe 10% active. We have 120 members and 107 of them have logged in within the last 4 days…
Don’t hate on guilds that want 100% rep. We simply have a different mindset than you do and goals for our guild that are beyond simply having numbers. Quality over quantity. And we want that quality to reflect on the guild, and you can’t have it reflect on the guild if your members aren’t representing your tag….
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

Gamble only if you have 50% or more chance. Or be smart and never gamble.
I’d like to see a casino that gives a 50% or higher odd in any game, I’d play there in a heartbeat. Even roulette isn’t 50/50 when playing black/red (0 and 00 are green spaces).

Just a reminder: it is free if you delete all your chars! Currencies and other account bound stuff stay in your bank. I just did this 2 weeks ago, I am a mainoholic with only one char and wanted to reroll anyway.
Best advice so far. There is a way to get it done for free and here it is. Bank everything, delete your characters, make new characters.
Now if that sounds like a pain, there’s the whole farming gold to convert to gems thing.
Now you have two options to server transfer that won’t cost money out of your pocket.

I’d say the real issue is some sort of unwritten common understanding that the Ogre Event gets done AFTER FE is killed (since there are tons of people that just completed FE available to do it).
This is exactly the problem. I don’t do FE daily, but have done it 30-40 times at this point, and in my experience Ogre is saved for afterwards so pretty much everyone can get a crack at it.
You are breaking the unspoken Steam Ogre rule basically. In OP’s defense, people need to not be babies about it. Everyone’s there for FE. Ogre is just an extra champ bag. They’ll live.
Some will be upset, and if it bothers you that much to read angry messages, then save it for after FE. But you don’t have to. I would tell them all to deal with it.

throwing a coin, your chances are 50% heads, 50% tails, however you could easily get heads 20 times in a row before you see tails.
I wouldn’t say easily. While each independent flip technically is a 50/50 chance, the probability of getting 20 in a row is (1/2)^20, which is a reeeeaallly small chance.
The probability of getting any specific combination of 20 in a row is the exact same. The issue is that we’ve deemed some specific combinations to be preferable to others and thus are unhappy when those specific combinations do not appear.
Well obviously. The 20 <insert coin side> in a row is a specific combination we are looking to achieve. It’s the same probability of getting HTHTHTHHTHTHHTHTHTHT in that exact order, or any order so long as it is a pre-determined order you are wanting, as you said.
Sounds like we are on the same page. Saying one could easily see 20 heads before a tails implies getting 20 heads in a row, which is highly improbable and certainly not easy.

You work together in WVW, but 500 manning a single objective is a sure way to lose.
Not in the team deathmatch map they certainly don’t. Any time it is strictly a race for kills, the team that sticks together will win as they can concentrate DPS.
If there are objectives to capture, then splitting up is the better strategy.
But 5v5 team deathmatch. You better believe you need to stay together to win.

I highly recommend this strategy. So please, enemy Thieves, if you are in blob v blob, go ahead and stealth and come on over to the back of our blob to try and snipe an ele or two. I could use the bags.

True. But came to think of it, spies are everywhere anywhere.
If you expect the servers to have a nice chat in that open WvW channel, you are delusional haha.
So you rather watch silent War Movies than those with sounds?
Well each to their own preference i guess. lol!
You realize that silent movies had no sound effects whatsoever, just some music and text, right? Very rarely did one side have intimate conversations with the enemy side, in any of the war movies I’ve seen. Most war movies they shoot the enemy, that’s it. They talk amongst themselves, every now and then you might hear some yelling in the distance that is completely unintelligible.
What war are people able to yell across the battlefield to have a clear conversation with the enemy, I mean how close do you think each side is to eachother in war? And in a big melee I can tell you that nobody is stopping to have a conversation. You are fighting. In many cases just the different languages alone prevent each side from being able to speak.
I dunno, the open chat would be completely unrealistic in addition to facilitating spying.

so i bought this game comming from a f2p type MMO with the expectation that i would not NEED so spend RL money on it .. as in CS items .. but yet by lvl 70 i only have 5 gold … why on earth would a bought game act as a free to play game ? (and yes i get it * to make money*) but this is no excuse !!
In GW2 you don’t just make money while leveling up. You only really start to earn money when you hit level cap. As someone who has had over 2000g at one point without ever buying gems to convert to gold I can tell you it is easy enough to do if you really want that money.
Now if you want lots of gold but don’t want to have to do what it takes to earn, well that’s where gem purchases come in.
It boils down to whether you simply would rather spend RL money to save you the trouble of earning it game, or if you don’t mind doing dungeon running, selling mats, etc.
To put into perspective: That 5g that has taken you 70 levels to gather I can make in under 30min. So, there really is no problem.

This guy understands minimum wage law.
A lot of people think servers who get $2/hr don’t get minimum wage. They legally have to. Most of the time tips will get them there, but if it is a particularly slow restaurant and they don’t, then the restaurant has to make up the difference so they hit minimum wage.
If you are a server and you aren’t making minimum wage for your hours worked (after you factor in your tips), then you need to complain to your manager, because that is illegal.
Yes, they’re legally obligated to do it. Do they do it? Definitely not all the time (or even the majority of the time, I’d be willing to bet). And if employees complain to the manager, the employees run the very real risk of being fired (which no one would really bat an eyelash about because of the high turnover in the food service industry). It’s just like cases of employers firing women on the basis of their getting pregnant or an employer refusing to hire someone because of their sexuality or race or gender; it’s illegal, but it happens all the time.
Well that’s a different situation entirely. All I can say is to contact the Labor Department to have them audited.
We had a disgruntled employee who was terminated call the Labor Department claiming we didn’t pay employees properly for overtime (she was terminated because she was caught on camera actively sabotaging other employees). The Labor Dept. came in with two auditors (completely unannounced) and went through every single timecard, check stub, checkbook, etc.
They determined we were following all Labor Dept. regulations and went on their way after a full week of the audit.
But no joke, that one call prompted an investigation.
They seemed to take it pretty seriously.

So if you enjoy manual labour then it is considered free?
Some people do enjoy manual labor and helping others pro bono. In fact, you may have heard of such people. We call them volunteers here in the US…..

I had 1.5g after buying Dawn. Although I hate being brings, it really wasn’t a big deal and I’d definitely do it again. Making gold is really easy, especially when you don’t really spend any of it.
Mind sharing your wisdom then smart guy? Highest I ever had was like 275 because I sold 2 black lion ticket skins at the start of the chinese new year.
Run a few dungeons a day and don’t spend it. Turn Laurels into gold if you don’t need them. Take advantage of any seasonal events going on where you can farm stuff/turn a quick profit.
It’s really not that hard. If you don’t go hardcore on your money making it can take a while to add up, but making 10-15g per day is a breeze, and if you don’t spend it it will start appreciating.
Yep, this is a solid method. I’m at about 850g right now (up from 80g after I had purchased Dusk to craft Twilight) from this basic strategy. Run dungeons (usually to help guildies with dungeon master), collect the money, don’t spend any of it, convert laurels into T6 mats, sell T6 mats. Craft Ascended mats, sell the ascended mats. Sell all ectos I get from salvaging Rares (I do world boss rotation every few days or so).
Right now (during this seasonal event) you essentially get a free 1.5-2g every day from the Divine Envelopes. If you haven’t been spending the 16g to get the Divine Envelopes every day to immediately turn around to sell for 20g on TP (you end up with ~17.5g after fees) then you are missing out on some easy money every day.
