pls no, one of the few things without p2w taint on them
Been a lot of this P2W being tossed around.
I’m honestly curious, paying money in this game for gems to convert to gold helps you win…. what exactly? Is there competitive skin collecting in this game now?
Might as well call LoL skins P2W then….you know…because the coolest skins will of course make you a better player and faceroll all content.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
So you guys deny that Gw2 is Play to Win?
Clearly I need to ask this.
They paid money to win….what exactly?
EDIT: I just now noticed you wrote Play to Win. Yes, GW2 is Play to Win lol. If that was a typo, then see above. If it was intentional, then touche.

I knew it.
I always knew it.
I always said it.
Gw2 is p2w.
What’s the context here? Are you one of those people that honestly believes getting a cosmetic item is “winning”? I could never get one of you guys to answer the question, “win what?” GW2? Like that dreamthistle skin somehow lets you complete FoTM50 or dominate everyone in PvP?
I’ll save time by telling you there is no good answer to what it is they are paying to win without sounding ridiculous.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
No thanks. If you want to have fractal skins you have to do fractals. It’s nice to have skins we have to play for. The whole reason Fractal skins have the allure they have is because you can’t buy them and they are cool skins. Take one of those things away and you ruin the whole point of them.
At the very least, perhaps when you finish the fractal frequenter achievement (500 fractals I wanna say?) you get to choose a skin.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
and i want it
I want stuff, too, man. I want stuff, too.
I dislike the RNG as well, but I’m not going to quit the game because I can’t get a specific skin. I’d love to have a fractal scepter skin. But there’s no way for me to even really work towards that without just doing fractal after fractal and hoping maybe I’ll get the skin I want and not another pistol or focus skin.
Keep in mind, however, that without RNG items like this, they would be far less exclusive. And people like having exclusive items. I bet if/when you get the item you want, you would be pretty upset if they suddenly made it easier to obtain. You’d be happy it was exclusive. If you had it, of course.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I did see a dreamthistle greatsword skin on the AH though.. it was 1kg, and by gem prices thats 140$ O.o.
That’s because the dreamthistle weapon set is one of the absolute best looking in the game, and looks great on sylvari. I’m just happy I got my GS for 100g when it was first released during LS Season 1. It’s hands down one of my favorites. All of the dreamthistle weapons look great though.

I didn’t get my first fractal skin until around the 300 mark. And even then it was a torch.
Do not agree they should be on TP, but I do agree with guardian and having it be a box that you can pick your weapon skin from.

As the thread name says will the Keg Brawling return? For those who do not remember what it was. Keg brawling was the mini game in the Norn City of Hoelbrak. It was removed like a month after the game was released and has yet to make a return…
Any thoughts?
You are certainly misinformed. It is on rotation like any other activity. I played it a couple of days ago.
You just can’t start one whenever you want, you have to wait until it is up on rotation.

I have more trouble seeing the red circles than anything else. When they came out with those orange-ish filled in circles I thought my prayers had been answered, only to find out those aren’t used for all enemy AoEs, but I guess really powerful attacks.
There are some encounters that are in areas with specific light effects that make those circles nearly identical to player AoEs, and when you have a bunch of circles on the ground and can’t tell them apart, it typically spells disaster.
I think all enemy AoE should be that obvious orange color. But that’s me.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Zerker elementalist (which is what you have), is arguably the hardest to play properly (i.e. have max damage output while also not dying regularly). It is hands down the best DPS in the game, but to play it properly will require paying constant attention to enemy attack telegraphs, avoiding AoE, proper dodging and range control.
Once you can figure out how to stay alive, you will have a nice character there.
I recommend switching stats to something more sturdy and just practice taking no damage at all ever. If you do slip up at least you won’t practically get one-shotted. Once you can get through most dungeons/fractals without taking damage in general (or little damage) then you will be ready to put on the high damage/high squishiness gear.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
So…you guys want an MMO you can play forever, without a grind (time-sink) of any kind?
Methinks you will be waiting for a very long time.
Without a mandatory grind yes.
We don’t have to wait, we have been playing that game for years now, Guild Wars 2.
You grind for skins not for stats. Yes there is ascended but that only has a 5% stat increase so I can easily ignore that and just roll with Exotic, hell, you can even complete all the content on this game with Rare stats. As for these infusions, we don’t even know what they are yet. Let’s wait and see first.
We are on the same page. My point was that MMOs need time-sinks. There’s no way to keep players who can play anywhere from 1hr/day to 6hrs/day entertained long term without time-sinks.
That’s why I don’t understand people being up in arms in general over GW2 adding features that essentially are time-sinks. What has been described is not the same as a gear treadmill. It’s just a standard MMO time-sink.
All MMOs have them, GW2 included. They never promised not to have time-sinks. That would be foolish on their part.

And before anyone says you don’t need Ascended gear: YOU ARE WRONG. Of course you need Ascended gear, why else is it there? Why else have they have given it better stats than Exotic gear? By that logic we would not need any gear at all since people can solo dungeons not wearing any armour whatsoever. Like, durr, why do we need any armour in GW2 at all when we can clear content in our underwear?
Whichever gear gives the best stats is what we NEED.
Let me try and explain this in a simple way.
There is exotic armor. Which is high end stats that is usable for all content in this game. I don’t mean “durr” it’s basically paper armor and is crap. It’s legitimately good armor. Now one month into game release, people had their exotic armor and began to complain about having nothing to work towards. So Ascended armor was released which is a slight improvement over Exotic armor, but has a time sink so that the hard-core players had something to occupy them while at the same time not making Exotic gear obsolete for those that don’t want to deal in time-sinks.
That’s it, man. You don’t need Ascended armor. In fact, you can even get your AR to 55 without Ascended armor, just infused trinkets, meaning you can essentially do all content including up to FoTM49 without ever needing to invest in Ascended armor/weapons.
I’m not not saying you can barely scrape by content in Exotic gear like people do naked. No you can faceroll content in this game in Exotic gear. Exotic gear is like a sports car with let’s say 1000hp. Ascended gear is like a sports car that costs twice as much and has 1050hp. Your argument is “yea but it’s faster! So I need it!”
You will find no sympathy here, my friend.
PS LOL at 5 Days being far too long for you to have to put up with in order to get the absolute best weapons in the game. Big L O freaking L….
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
It is an inconvenience. That’s all. Which is the point. If you keep dying over and over, you will have to inconveniently seek out an armor repair guy, which in fractals for example, will require leaving and coming back, which will make the rest of the party roll their eyes at you.
They had to do it this way because too many people found the money cost to be unfair. So instead of removing punishments at all, they downgraded it to an inconvenience.

Fastest method to level from XP point of view would be if you have a few boosters on (Bday booster, XP booster, Killstreak booster) and you go out and kill yellow mobs (as most ignore them and thus bonus XP is likely to be higher). But you have to keep moving, you can’t kill the same group over and over as the bonus XP decreases to nothing eventually. This is faster than EoTM even but requires more than mindless zerg training, which many like, plus you get less loot.
If you don’t have any boosters then EoTM is fastest to level IMO. Then again I’ve never actually sat down and tried to level via Tomes from PvP. I just save them at the moment, so who knows. All I know is that you can level from 20-80 in under 24hrs play time in EoTM (I always use level 20 scroll).

I need 500 odd gold any ideas apart from pay to win?
What is the pay to win part? Buying gems then converting to gold? What do you win from that again? A larger credit card statement? Certainly isn’t that the weapon you want is any more powerful than what can be obtained without buying gems.
Just not sure what is won other than a skin and higher CC bill.

It sounds like the only reason you went into Obsidian Sanctum was to grief players trying to do the JP.
I mean, there’s no reason you can’t still kill players going through it. What do consumables/siege matter in the grand scheme, really. A group of a few guys can ruin someone’s day pretty easily still.

Props to OP for getting out there and spreading the hate on all of the features of HoT before knowing anything about it! Kudos, OP! Keep reaching for the stars!

In Aion when the first expansion came out, you could still play the core game even if you didn’t buy the expansion. You just couldn’t enter the new areas (they were instanced just like in GW2).
You almost certainly won’t be able to experience new LS content, though. As that would undoubtedly take place in the new zone.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I didn’t see anyone say the obvious to that guy. You just turned 80, you SHOULDN’T go for the ascended gear AT ALL. You don’t know the game or your profession yet. Ascended only give you a small advantage and you shouldn’t worry about it for now. Got a lot of friends that play for the last 2 years and still don’t have full ascended gear yet. It would be unfortunate that you craft an ascended gear and realize a couple months later that you crafted the wrong kind of gear.
^^^ this is also true. However he’s going after ascended weapons which are far more useful than ascended armor and faster to obtain. He shouldn’t worry about ascended armor until he’s running FoTM40+

You will need obsidian shards as well. Just a heads up.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
If you’re like most players you will need to buy a precursor and not actually get it as a drop.
Use laurels to convert to T6 mats. Run world bosses to sell rares/ectos, run the SW event over and over for mats/items to salvage/Rares to salvage (this will likely be most lucrative for you for time spent). Run EoTM train.
Dungeons give a nice boost, but aren’t entirely necessary anymore.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I’m sorry Krecik. That is a terrible thing to happen.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
OP, it is simple. Make sure you log-in every day. Convert every laurel you get into T6 mats (from laurel vendor, towards bottom of list). Sell T6 mats —> profit.
Also, you can hit up Silverwastes and run the event over and over. You should end up with tons of items to salvage. Sell all ectos as well (however you will need them for ascended crafting, but if you need money to max crafting, maybe get that out of the way and then save up ectos).
Run dungeon paths as often as you can as they guarantee money.
And finally. Run the world boss circuit. It’s guaranteed Rares to salvage for ectos, or sometimes to sell outright.
Then mix that with EoTM train if you just want to veg out and get some kind of income.
Also you can actually convert karma to gold if you are desperate. Requires purchasing specific items with karma, tossing them into mystic forge to make an item that is salvageable, then selling all of the linen/silk you get from them. It isn’t that lucrative unfortunately (1.8mil karma —>140g or so). But if you aren’t using a bunch of karma you have, it’s enough to get you 500 in whatever craft you’re working on.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Laurel —> T6 mats for sure. But to reinforce what other people are saying. Consider saving your money/mats until expansion drops. Best prepare for the unknown.

As far as dailies are concerned, the system gives you dailies based on the highest level character on your account. someone with an 80 on their account will not have the same dailies as someone just starting the game.
Very true. However, it still takes 3 dailies for completionist even if your account only gets 1 task per category. Assuming new players even hear about dailies (ain’t that hard) they would need to do the PvP and WvW ones for completionist. Vet players with new accounts would also need to complete the PvP/WvW ones until leveled high enough to get more choices. This is not a long-term problem for a single account unless one levels quite slowly, but it might be a problem for a high-tier WvW server if there is a regular influx of new players.
It is very rare that you get a daily where you have to step in WvW versus EoTM. It can happen, but usually in those cases a new player, if they even know how to enter WvW, just needs to capture a Ruin.
In most cases they will be able to get 2/3 from PvE (some kind of gatherer, vista, events, etc), and then can go to EoTM for the rest (Sentry cap, Guard killer, Badge spender, tower cap, keep cap, etc.)
This really is a non-issue.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Sort of. There’s the one set of odds you’re talking about “what is the probability the 8th flip is heads”—that is 1/2, yes. But then there’s a different set of odds: “what is the probability you will get 8 heads in a row”. That is not 50%. That would be (1/2)^8 or ~.4% probability that heads will land 8 times in a row on a coin flip. While each flip can be considered independent of each other, probability is based on the larger set of data. It can happen that you get 8 heads in a row, but it is certainly not common.
Yes, the chance of 8 heads in a row is 1 out of 256. The flip side of that is that for any specific string of 8 coin flips, the chance is exactly the same, 1 in 256.
HHHHHHHH = 1/256
HTHTHTHT = 1/256
HHTHTTTH = 1/256Whats my point? That 8 heads in a row is nothing special. But because the human mind is really good at finding patterns, we want to attach some special significance to it.
It is special if you are asking about a specific outcome. In your examples you are listing a specific outcome. As in, what are the odds, that in 8 coin flips, that they will land in this exact order HTHTHTHT. That’s why it is the same probability as HHHHHHHH. You’re thinking of it as being random, but you’re actually asking about a specific order of coin flips in your examples. Which makes it as unlikely as getting all heads.
The probability of flipping a coin 8 times and having them land in completely random order is obviously a much higher probability than asking what the probability is that it will land in a very specific order HHHTTTHH, TTHHTHTH, whatever really. But in order for it to be that 1/256, the coin flips need to land in the exact order you are wanting to see. Otherwise we aren’t talking about probability really.
So essentially in your example, it would be like writing down on a piece of paper what you predict the next 8 coin flips will be, then flipping a coin and actually trying to get them in that order. Even if it is just alternating HTHTHTHT, it’s actually pretty difficult to get them to land in that specific sequence. As difficult as getting HHHHHHHH as you pointed out.
But now we’re off topic lol

This isn’t a new thing and isn’t unique to Taylor Swift.
For example, the studio that made School of Rock had to pay AC/DC for permission for Jack Black to say “We roll tonight, to the guitar bite, and for those about to rock we salute you.”
I can only assume that AC/DC actually came up with this quote as it is very unique and original. Unlike Taytay’s which is a phrase that is commonly used.
If AC/DC didn’t copyright it, the studio asked permission just in case, but legally could have said it anyway. I mean, why risk a lawsuit that could be dragged out for years when a simple request will suffice. But for all I know they did copyright that little rock chant.

I think “in speedrun PUGs” needs to clearly be added to any comment about zerker creating lack of diversity.
Most players do not care about your build. In fact, I’ve only ever seen it come up once where gear needed to be pinged. And that was a specific speedrun group.
I experiment builds all the time. Last night my guild ran FoTM32. We had a heal spec elementalist (Nomad, omg awesome btw, makes things so much easier), a might stack build Guardian (PVT w/ clerics trinkets, GS/staff, this was me, I’m playing around with it), a celestial ranger, a PVT rifle warrior (wasn’t a huge fan of this one), and Assassin build thief. We didn’t wipe once. Not one of us was zerker. And we finished in ~1hr (harpy, charr, dredge, mai were our rolls).
There’s nothing wrong with zerker. Zerker is for a specific play style. If you don’t want to run zerker, don’t. If you want highest DPS, and don’t mind needing to be extra aware of dodges, run zerker.
Now if you want to join a speedrun group, you need zerker for the most part. That’s a specific style of play. You can’t have both. If you want the fastest possible method of killing things, there’s only one stat combo that will be the best for that. If you want to be able to test out new builds, you need to be OK with killing things slower.
Sometimes I feel you guys want to somehow have the freedom to try different stat combinations yet still be at the top end of DPS. That isn’t possible in any MMO that uses stat formulas to figure damage output.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
It really comes down to whether or not it is being used to make money (i.e. taking money that she could have made). Games, movies, etc. simply saying “Shake it Off” does not require permission unless it is designed to be used as a catch phrase. Because as we all know, “Shaking it off” is not a phrase she invented, so in order to infringe on that copyright, you have to be really specific in how you are using it. Namely it has to be obvious to a court that your intent was to try and profit off of her successful use of it.
Guild Wars is not doing that.

So many warrior fanbois. It’s sad you can’t have a healthy discussion on this forum with tribalism tearing the forum apart and people defending their precious class to death.
It’s pretty clear what’s happening here: warrior is OP, warriors know it, and they they deny it so they wouldn’t lose their advantage.
In no way am I a warrior fanboi and I can tell you Eviscerate is fine as is. My favorites to play in order are Guardian, Ranger, Elementalist, Necro, Warrior. I’ve maybe been killed by Evis once in WvW in I dunno how many attempts it’s been tried on me. In a variety of classes. I can assure you if Ranger had a melee F skill that did 11k that worked like Warriors, I would avoid that just as easily. Or I would just throw up retaliation and let you land it, then full-heal and finish you off. Either way, that skill only works on people not paying attention. Class makes no difference.
Like seriously, Ranger LB #2 skill is just as powerful if not more so, shorter cooldown, and is max range… Yet you complain about one F skill on Warrior, which as you know, is different depending on what weapon they are wielding.
Unbelievable.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Sure you don’t confuse GW2 with WoW here ?
yes, I’m sure. You know how you have to have a character selected to do such damage as majority of signets, a lot of the 1 skills on weapons, etc? That’s tab targetting. And even worse even when the enemy health bar goes away, they’re not deselected, that’s why when you use movement skills you sometimes move backwards towards the last enemy you had selected. happens even after dying and respawning in Spvp. Which annoys me to no end. Because in open world PVE to avoid that I target random critters and use my abilities when I got to go fast. I can’t do that in Spvp.
So yes, it still has tab targetting. Unlike Wildstar and Tera in which you don’t need to see the enemies healthbar at the top to inflict damage as all the skills simply execute in front of you (except for targetted aoes) and anyone in it gets hurt. The only things that work that way in GW2 ARE the aoes.
I dunno man, my Guardian can use all of his skills for the most part without a target selected and still damage whatever is around him. I think it’s honestly a mix of what you’re talking about. Some weapons work like you are describing, some require targets. To me, that’s a happy middle ground.

What if it cost more for them to keep CoH running than what they were making? What if that had been going on for years? I get the people want NCSoft to be loyal to their customers, but it’s a business. At some point in a big meeting someone will have to present to the board a chart showing that CoH has been bleeding money for X period of time.
What do you think the outcome of that would be? “Shut it down.” It was probably a no-brainer. I’m sure it wasn’t lost on them that existing players would be upset, but sometimes you have to make hard decisions.

Never played TERA or Swordsman online. Anyone care to explain what is so great?
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
If you flip a coin, it has a 50/50 chance of landing on heads or tails. If you flip a coin 7 times, and it lands on heads every time, what’s the chance it will land on tails on the 8th flip? It will still be 50%, because each flip is independent and separate from each other.
The same logic applies to loot drops. Every time you throw in some rares/exotics into the forge, you have a set chance of getting a precursor back. If you try for a precurser 100 times and fail each and every time, your 101th try won’t have a better or worse chance because you failed 100 times before. Each and every attempt is separate.
People like to try and draw patterns when there isn’t one. And this is a case where there isn’t a pattern, no matter how much you insist there is.
Sort of. There’s the one set of odds you’re talking about “what is the probability the 8th flip is heads”—that is 1/2, yes. But then there’s a different set of odds: “what is the probability you will get 8 heads in a row”. That is not 50%. While each flip can be considered independent of each other, probability is based on the larger set of data. It can happen that you get 8 heads in a row, but it is certainly not common.
That said, I do believe there is something fishy with accounts getting 10+ precursors and others getting none. Specifically because precursors have a specific % chance to drop when doing MF. It is far below 1%. If these guys have dumped thousands upon thousands of weapons in the toilet, statistically speaking, they would end up with multiple precursors. But some people get multiple precursors in 100-200 weapons into the MF. The probability of that happening is hard to swallow, let alone people that get 3, 4, or even 5 precursors within 100-200 tries. Still, it can happen, I suppose.
But I definitely see why people believe there is a conspiracy going on.
Side note: I had to buy Dusk. After 300 attempts in the MF (1200 Greatswords) and getting nothing worth above 2g, I felt my money was better spent simply saving up for it. Contrasted with one of my guildies who has now gotten his 2nd Dawn from MF and told me he’s probably done 50 attempts total. maybe. He buys 100 swords and then sees what he gets. Both sessions he’s done this he’s ended up with Dawn (although he wanted Dusk the 2nd time, so I guess the joke’s on him….). Stranger things have happened, but boy is it frustrating when I’m 2500g+ in the hole for a sword, and he’s got his sword plus a ton of profit. Best not to think about it.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Agree with everyone else here, OP. Landing that eviscerate is not easy. In fact, landing it on a Ranger should be extremely difficult. Lightning Reflexes would have saved you. No joke, he had to build up that adrenaline, find someone roaming solo (a ranger no less), get into melee range, and have that ranger stand still long enough to land one skill that could have easily been countered, dodged, or LR’d.
So if you’re a ranger, try not to go melee with a warrior… it doesn’t really matter if it is an F skill or not.
I main a Guardian btw, none of my F skills do any kind of burst damage. I can heal, aegis, and light things on fire, and you don’t see me complaining. If I see eviscerate, I aegis or I dodge. That simple. Don’t want to watch for visual cues? Then WvW roaming might not be for you…
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
There is nothing wrong with zerker. Yes, it is the ideal stat combination to kill things the fastest. So what? Are we really saying we don’t think it’s fair that one stat combination is better than others when it comes to killing things the fastest? Only one can be the fastest, these are stat combinations. One of them will be the best for DPS.
Make heals more useful and/or don’t let zerker heal as much? How does that solve anything? That doesn’t affect speed of killing. So speedrunners will still want to go zerker, they don’t care about healing. “Well it’s not fair because the GW2 dodge system makes healing useless so they have top DPS and can easily avoid damage” Ok, and? That’s how the combat is designed. All classes can dodge. However it doesn’t time dodges for you.
People can and often do fail at dodge timing. Zerker is designed as a glass build, the ability to dodge alone isn’t what avoids damage. You have to look for visual cues and time it properly. We’ve all seen bad zerker players. They can quite literally be the lowest average DPS on your team because they keep dying.
It’s the far less common really good zerker players that everyone seems to want to compare the stat build to. That’s not fair. They’ve chosen to have to pay attention to dodge timing/usage/positioning during all difficult encounters in order to have the highest DPS output.
Personally, I think it’s a fair trade-off. If I want to run my PVT guardian I gain the ability to make errors and not die for it. But now I do less damage. That’s also fair.
The only glaring problem with GW2’s combat system as it is is condition damage caps. The way it works now is a deterrent to group with more than one condition build. I don’t think that’s OK. But Berserker stats? There’s truly nothing wrong here guys.
Don’t speedrun if you don’t want to min-max a DPS build. That’s the entire point of speedrunning, there can only be one best build for that and it’s zerker.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I’m curious how everyone is defining “rewarding” when comparing two stat builds. I mean, everyone receives the same rewards regardless of stat combo. So the only possible definition of “rewarding” I can possibly think of would be just speed of killing things.
I don’t find killing things faster any kind of reward. I rarely play zerker anymore. Mostly because I stopped PUG groups all together and strictly run with guild so I have the freedom to experiment with other playstyles without fear of someone hopping on a high horse. To me it is far more enjoyable playing a build less traveled and still complete all of the most difficult content.
Speedrunning, IMO, is a product of min-maxing. If you want to speedrun as fast as possible it requires a specific type of playstyle. There can only be one ideal build for completing content the fastest. Whatever that is, that’s what speedrunners will gravitate toward. In this case zerker. If you aren’t into speedrunning the who TF cares?
If you are into speedrunning then you have to realize there is an ideal combination to do it absolute fastest. If you want to run a different build, then you don’t speedrun, you just do dungeons normally.
Zerker is no more or less rewarding than any other stat combo. Zerker is just fastest at killing things because that’s how the stats work in this game. There will always been a best stat combo for a specific need (DPS in this case). And before people chime in about DPS being only measure in this game. Yea, that’s MMOs. Sorry to break it to you. Things have HP, things need to lose HP. Some do it better than others, this isn’t rocket science. Last I checked, every dungeon/fractal in this game can be completed with 5 cleric builds if you truly wanted to do it.
Zerker build is top DPS, find a build that still has decent damage output and utility if you want. All stat builds can DPS, but they can’t all be exactly the same, that’s not how stats work….

Also, the key to good recruits is to have actual standards, as well as seeking people out who legitimately enjoy the game. In our guild we have a fairly involved interview process to become an Initiate. Most of it centered on what kind of character you have and playstyle. If you get through that interview you become an Initiate and then after 1-2 weeks of playing, you will be interviewed once more to become a full member.
The idea of the second interview is really to get feedback from the new members to see if there are any areas that they would like to see more focus. Be it WvW/PvP/dungeons, etc. We also try to get a feel of whether or not they see themselves playing GW2 in the long term.
There have been times during the second interview where you can tell the person isn’t really that into GW2, or maybe they are also playing WoW/SWTOR/other MMO at the same time. Getting a lot of players like that is how you end up with 300 members and only 20 logging on.
You really need to hunt out the people that legitimately enjoy this game and want a strong community for the long haul. Easier said than done typically.

I’ve been told that essentially the only three professions that are viable in the game are Warrior, Guardian, and Elementalist.
Thats basicly what noobs will tell you. If you find a guild with decent players they will know all classes are very viable. For example ppl still thinks warrior is top class dps while its actualy mid tier dps what is good only for banners:-)
Classes in this game are very ballanced very equal and can often replace each other in roles if needed. Simply play what you like and play it as good as possible and you will be fine.
^^ Yep. The people who think warrior is top tier DPS don’t actually mean top tier DPS, what they mean is that a bad/mediocre/new player can get decent DPS output as a Warrior. It’s essentially a good starter class. That said, a good player playing a zerker warrior is very different than a bad player playing a zerker warrior. Insofar that a bad zerker warrior will be dead most of the time. Many bosses have one-hit mechanics, so if you aren’t good at reading telegraphed attacks and able to dodge, all the armor in the world won’t save you.
Ele is actually able to deal out the most DPS, but you are even squishier than warrior and it is largely considered one of the hardest classes to learn to play properly.

With heart of thorns possibly being an expansion I got really excited. Then I realized what’s the point for them making one?
Let me explain. There are 2 types of people in this game generally.
Player a – Those who are happy, love the world and exploring, like the living story for the most part. Like wvw and the spvp.
Player b – Then there is the people like me. I hit level 80, I got my gear, I did my legendary, there is nothing left in this game.
So let’s say an expansion comes out. The version I want. 1 or 2 new races a new heavy armor class, level cap increased to 100 with new armors. New weapons. Options for more then the same 5 skills, a huge new map size of gw2 at release with a great story again.
Or…..a brand new huge map, great story, more cosmeticts.
Now option one will for the most part really upset player a quite a bit. Option two will be pretty much pointless to player b as they see no point doing it.
Which makes me ask. Why make an expansion at all? The option I’d love to see is very unlikely to meet even half my wants in this game. So for player a why not just continue the living story?
Does anyone else see this expansion being anything more then just a huge chapter of living story in a new map?
I know I’m kinda just rambling on here. Just that gw2 has so much potential to be the world’s best mmo but for some reason isn’t because other then living world there is simply just nothing else to do as its all been done 100 times. Please feel free to hate my post or put your thoughts. Just felt like posting this. I have no intention of a flame war so let’s just discuss not fight
Sounds like you might need a game with a frequent gear treadmill to keep you entertained. Because without that, what is there even for you to do in any MMO? You sound like the kind of person that plays heavily to level cap, getting max gear, and then you get bored. But what game wouldn’t that happen in? Only one would be WoW because of the frequent level increases and gear treadmill, and even then, millions of people have grown bored of even that kind of content (because quite honestly in the end it’s pretty much doing the same content over and over again until the next expansion so you can play a couple of weeks to get to the new max and then do the same content over and over again until the next expansion.).
Most of the people playing GW2 are here because they don’t want the above, which seems like is not quite your cup of tea.

I get where people who would rather use keys in SW are coming from. But me personally, sometimes I honestly don’t feel like going to SW, but I will end up in my home instance for the daily gatherer at some point. The chest is now just an extra thing I get to open which, in my mind, is a plus. Sure I could go to SW, use a shovel, and open a potentially more lucrative chest, but meh.
You certainly could. But please keep in mind you still need a key to open it. Sooner or later you will run out of keys and crests and you have to go back to SW to farm them.
That’s true, but I’m sure I would have ended up back in SW at some point before I ran out of keys. I actually like the zone. And I definitely like the new event.

I was drifting aimlessly from MMO to MMO after burning out on WoW. Had an old friend who had tried to convince me to try GW1 back in the day reach out to me to check out GW2. Checked it out. Been playing since early release.
