For 1H sword it would be pretty cool to have it be like a fencing style of fighting. Thus it is one handed, yet you would still have skills 1-5.

I get where people who would rather use keys in SW are coming from. But me personally, sometimes I honestly don’t feel like going to SW, but I will end up in my home instance for the daily gatherer at some point. The chest is now just an extra thing I get to open which, in my mind, is a plus. Sure I could go to SW, use a shovel, and open a potentially more lucrative chest, but meh.

Im not saying they have to look like the dragon that spawbs them but risen look undead like zhaitan mordrem i.e. Husks wolves teragriff are vines and bones yet sylvari are leaves in shape of humans? Does mordrrmoth look similar to mordrem or to sylvari and if he looks like the mordrem why are the sylvari the only ones that are different

Risen look like undead people. Zhaitan is an undead dragon. Sylvari look like plant people. Mordremoth is a plant dragon.

Not sure why you don’t think Sylvari follow the same idea? How do you even know the teragriffs and wolves have bones anyway? Have you ever seen dried out branches? They sometimes can look an awful lot like bones. And vines are plants like anything else, so that is consistent with the theme.

As someone who EoTMs quite frequently, it really doesn’t matter that much.

Sure OG has a tendency to have the largest zerg running around, but that isn’t always the case. And even so, you typically go hours without any major encounter, and if there is an encounter, it’s over relatively quick and everyone continues on with what they are doing.

If one side was so OP that both other colors weren’t even able to leave their spawn points, then sure I’d agree this is a problem, but considering you can be any of the colors and still run hours of train without issue, I’m more leaning more towards it being a non-issue.

how do you feel about passive swiftness?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Guardians have it the worst with no 25% movement speed in either traits or signets. The only access to swiftness a guardian has are tied to defensive builds through shouts and staff. With zero access to any swiftness, offensive builds are limited to using traveler runes on most builds.

Mesmers are a close second.

Uhm, so Guardians can have perma-swiftness now if you’re looking strictly for travel. Even not specced for it, Retreat + Save Yourselves + staff #3 and you travel at 33% permanently.

“OMG but I lose utility skills!” — you don’t need swiftness in dungeons, you don’t need swiftness in WvW zerg (as long as you stay with the zerg), you don’t need swiftness in PvP as a guardian. So what do you need to have speed for then? For travelling, right? So don’t be lazy and swap your utility skills if you know you will be running around exploring as a Guardian. Inconvenience isn’t an excuse for not using the tools you are given properly. Guardians are one of the fastest. Especially since they have GS Leap on top of perma-swiftness for that added distance.

Mesmers are by far the slowest class.

To me loot = mats = money. They dump so many blues and greens on you they really have no value other than salvage fodder.

I will say, however, that I get significantly more yellows than I ever used to. I’m sure my magic find % has something to do with it, but running EoTM for 2hrs (for example), I usually end up with 15-20 Rares. Exotics I’ve seen no noticeable increase in drops, unless you count Recipes…

You know, now that I think about it, I should actually quantify the mats I get from all of the greens and blues I salvage. I’m wondering if the mats end up being worth more than if you were to just sell them all to vendor. Some greens sell for 3s, which adds up considering the sheer volume you get.

Also remember: salvaging items = essences of luck. Unless you are at 300% MF, the more items to salvage the better.

But to your original point: yes, the loot system is very underwhelming.

I especially hate when my character says “Rare loot!” or “That’s valuable!”, when he’s referring to bloodstone dust or something lol. Lies!

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

Let’s see… people who don’t dungeon (so, fractals are out and a double fractal task day is right out). People who like playing their characters with their own skill bar (i.e., no “Activities”). People who find crafting boring. Those options all appeared in the old dailies, but all they meant on all but the worst of days was choosy players got 1 or 2 less AP. Now, due to the “all or nothing” aspect of the AP reward, doing a partial daily is less rewarding.

I don’t find this to be an issue. I make up the difference in WvW. I also find the all-or-nothing aspect of the AP reward to be an advantage on days where I might be short on time. However, I can see where some players would have an issue. Such players have had the ability to get partial AP from dailies for a long time. It’s natural to feel hard done by, and to feel that they are entitled to those AP.

I also believe that the new approach to dailies is more balanced in terms of accommodating the three main “exclusive” demographics (PvE only, WvW only and PvP only) in a way the older dailies did not. I believe that any adjustments to new dailies has to move in the direction of greater accommodation for all groups, not a return to the old system.

I also still believe new dailies need work:

  • Event scaling in lower-level event dailies is abysmal, producing a play experience in which the only “fun” I can find is, “Oooh, I got another 25% toward completing this task.”).
  • “Win as” in PvP seems to favor those who play all professions, just as the nature of PvE tasks favors those who do everything in PvE. If the latter is a problem that needs to be addressed, then surely the former is as well.

Yes, I concede that the players that refuse to do dungeons, fractals, crafting, WvW, PvP, and world bosses are greatly affected by this change….

On the other hand. The person who refuses to do all of the above content are likely people that are not AP hunters, and were most likely in it for the laurels, which are taken out of the equation entirely. So they may not be as affected as one might think. If they care that much about their 10AP (which is more than they ever would have gotten in a single day if they avoided all of the above content types in the past), they can suffer auto-running into a wall during an activity, or doing any one of the WvW dailies, which at least one is a ~5min commitment (master of ruins, sentry cap, badge spender).

This is speculation of course. But comes from some logic.

That said, I do think it is too transparent. Like when they destroyed LA, which was a banking/crafting/trading hub, and instantly put up an expensive temporary item on the gem store which allowed easy access to the very amenities that the LA destruction – surprise surprise – removed. It felt to me like the paper-thin story was the vehicle for the real content which was the gem store promotion.

It is a subscription model, just of a different kind. If I couldn’t convert gems into gold, I would rarely buy them at all.

Except one could argue that every capitol city has the same amenities that LA had. In fact, I find DR to be even more convenient than LA ever was. So I don’t really feel the destruction of LA and releasing an item that ports you to a convenient area as being that much of a driving force to the gem store.

Didn’t the royal terrace come out before the destruction of LA? For some reason I thought it did, which would make this all moot.

I am PVE only, NOTHING will get me into PVP, it just does not have any interest to me, never has, never will. So I guess I will never get the daily again. This was not a good idea at all.

But there are 4 PvE options every day, you need to complete 3. I mean, if you PvE as much as you imply, then gathering X type of material, viewing a Vista, completing 4 events, participating in an activity (which you can technically afk through), killing a world boss, or doing a 1 fractal should be right up your alley?

Why do you think you have to do PvP/WvW to get your daily?

Stop making the game because your told to do it a certain way. Start making a game you would love, in EVERY aspect.

Something tells me you are still at school and have no idea of a professional hierarchy?
If your boss orders you to do something, you do it.. If not, you’re out of a job..

If you have any self respect, and you do a job you dont like to do. You quit it regardless. Better to be fired with a big bang then no? Instead of having no reall prospects on where the game is going so it will eventually fall into oblivion for everyone wich will get you fired anyways.

If you had another job secured, sure that is a great move, but to go out in a “big bang” only makes you look unprofessional (and potentially causing all other employers in the industry not to want to hire you—because yes, they will likely want to speak to your previous employers, especially if it is in the video game industry and you are applying for a job at another developer).

Some people don’t have the luxury of being able to quit a job on principle, you know, because they have mouths to feed and people to keep a roof over. Things that should trump your principles.

If you haven’t entered the working world yet, I highly recommend you don’t go into a job with this attitude. If you don’t like the position, then secure another before leaving. And for goodness sake leave on good terms. Don’t burn bridges. You will regret it.

Disappointment #999999999999.

I log on about 1 hour when I have time, I see on daily there’s the shaman, so I think ‘OK lets do it’. I arrive in Wayfarer’s foothills and see the event is up. I go to complete it and… no champion. Some guy tells me that the champions only spawn on certain hours cause of “world boss chart thing”. I ask him how much time left till it spawns, he replies; 45 minutes. You have to be kidding me. Either you keep world bosses the fk out of daily, or you make champs respawn every time the event starts over, so people with limited playtime can complete the dailies without having to log in at specific times in a crowded map.

So….don’t include world bosses on the daily because you only have an hour to play and the spawn time may not be during your limited window.

Yea that sounds reasonable. Totally…

snip

To put into some perspective:

We have 115 or so guild members. Maybe 35 or so have played since early release. Of those 35 who have played since early release, 20 or so still play daily, the other 15 are every other day or so players. Of those 20, I would say 7-8 of us have over 10,000 AP, of those 7-8, 4 of us have over 15,000. Now, of the 13 others that still play daily, 10 of them have under 5000 AP. And here’s what’s extra interesting. Of those 10 with under 5000AP, 7 are under 2000AP. All 7 players have 3000+ hrs in-game time. I have ~15,000AP and my /age is 1600hrs.

You can legitimately play this game full-time and simply not get AP. Or not care to get AP or what. Personally I hunt for AP when I play. That’s my play-style. But people can and have played far longer thanI and still have under 2000AP. They may get the random daily done here and there, but most of their time is spent leveling up characters, maybe RPing, doing a random dungeon here and there, etc. It’s been said before and it still is true: AP is not an indication of experience or length of play, but rather play-style.

Defend the keep. Who cares. Plenty of times our karma train has been thrown off because 4-5 people decided to actually defend.

Everyone does get upset, but I don’t. More power to those 4-5 people. There’s no reason 30-40 shouldn’t be able to take a keep against those few players, yet everyone mindlessly stands in the AC rain and the entire group wipes because the karma train is made up of lazy uplevels that really just want to PvE.

Don’t get me wrong I thoroughly enjoy EoTM, it just gets frustrating how mindless people can actually be sometimes. A solid wipe helps give a kick in the pants.

Draknar.5748

All I ever wanted was that the people who don’t care about the way I play stay well clear of me and my parties and all is well. Sadly that does not happen. Even when I clearly post that I’m looking for people like myself.

Also – it’s not forcing it “on the entire community”. It’s not forcing it at all. You want to run with the groups of people who care about their time? play to their expectations.
You don’t? Nobody cares – just don’t interfere and make your own groups.

That, as you say, does not happen. In all likelihood, it will never happen. Unless lfg tool adds filters to only let certain gear/trait type in. But that would come with its own problems:

What if they change the armor with same skin but different stat? Have a system to continuously monitor gear throughout the instance. What if gear breaks? Require party members to ping repair canisters &/or additional sets of gear with required stat but differing skin. Now all that seems a bit drastic… but i would be ok with it. I have no intention of using such features. To each their own.

However, solutions like these are temporary at best. Ignoring/isolating the problem won’t make it go away. We do interact with each other as it is an mmo. Influence spreads across the whole game. I have seen parties trying to gather similarly geared toons for dynamic events (last i remember was during maw… not sure why though) in open world. While that in itself isn’t a problem as of yet, it does set a dangerous precedent. There is no way to not-interact during open world content short of map change and that isn’t always going to happen. Not bothering others is one thing but inconveniencing yourself for someone else’s convenience (regardless if it takes an hour or half a second) isn’t a choice for all… definitely not for me.

But why berserker? As many have pointed out before, meta (for lack of better word) will always be there. Zerkers wouldn’t get so much hate (or love… however you want to see it) if it wasn’t efficient everywhere. Yes…a skill or trait might be needed here & there… but for a vast, overwhelming majority of the time, its efficiency is unmatched. And even when it isn’t best, it is good enough to get through (when used by the right player). Such universal approach (combined with locked traits… curtsey of NPE changes and widespread appeal of zerk) renders experimenting/investing in anything else meaningless & gives it undue influence over all aspects of the game. I myself witnessed another new player geared all zerk simply because “everyone else doin it”.

IMHO, recent additions to the game have done much (compared to the past at least) to increase usefulness of other stats but much more is needed. Changes need to be implemented across the board. Also, active defenses need to be tied to your stat combo. As it is now, active damage mitigation has little-to-nothing to do with your build and it is good enough to decide the outcome of a fight. In its face, build diversity (apart from time differences) means nothing.

I can monitor if they switch armor to another set with different stats and same skin. The moment they get hit ( and they will) and I see their HP not going down hard enough ( and it won’t) I’ll know they pulled a fast one and kick with the fury of 1000 angry suns.

Same goes if the boss doesn’t melt properly – I’ll become suspicious and upon finding the culprit swift retribution will rain down.

You can play how you want in GW2. What you can’t do is trample of over people and trick them by not adhering to party requirements – I won’t stand for it.

Wow. I hope I never end up in one of your parties. God forbid the phone ring or I have to use the bathroom or turn away from the screen for a minute. This is what the game needs less of on display right here.

Seriously. I feel sorry for anyone who has ever had to play in this guy’s group. Clearly trust and control issues.

The idea of play how you want has been taken so far out of it’s original context, it’s lost all it’s meaning. Anet was pretty clear on what they meant.

In most games, you level by going quest hub to quest hub and that’s pretty much what you do, until you get to a high enough level to go to the next quest hub, afterwhich you do dungeons then you raid. That’s the PvE experience of most themepark MMOs.

Here you go:

It’s extremely important that we stay true to our philosophy that you should be able to play Guild Wars 2 the way you want to play the game in order to reach the most powerful rewards.

I want to play Tequatl and Fractals 50 and CoE speedruns to get AP to get the most powerful rewards of Hellfire and Vambrace skins and the upcoming Pinnacle weapon skins.

Can I? No. I have to grind Queensdale events and harvest plants in Caledon. Yay?..

And I want to be able to sit in Lion’s Arch chatting with friends and have Eternity mailed to me from the heavens. I guess neither of us get to play how we want, huh….

Impressions From A Returning Player

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Draknar.5748

Draknar.5748

Honestly, the NPE needs to be totally eliminated and the game needs to be returned to what it was before, which was a joy to play.

There is no sense of progression. As I level my characters, I am sorely missing all the little story parts that we progressed through. I’m missing the traits, give me back my traits. I wander around aimlessly opening areas and looking for hearts at my level to do and honestly, I don’t know if they reduced the XP or if it’s just that there are no story parts to level through but one of my characters is level 18 and has done all the hearts to level 20 and killed everything in between, done every event more than once and still isn’t at level.

ANet killed the wonder of the game for leveling alts (I have a level 80). In it’s place, they left frustration and boredom. I’m a SWTOR player and there is a sense of progression throughout the game. I don’t have that with GW2. I caught myself looking for a story area today. There was none. Why, because I’m level 18.

Honestly, at this stage, I would not recommend this game to someone who solos a lot. The way it was before NPE, I would have and did recommend it to everyone. Honestly, now, the only fun this game has is to zerg at level 80 in Orr. That was a blast. My friends and I had a great time. I am not having a great time with my characters that are leveling though 1-30.

ANet, what were you thinking. That this would be a good experience for a new player? No, it is not, and I’m being nice about it. You really need to fix the mess you’ve made of it.

Honestly sounds like you are staying in one zone.

I’m a veteran player, many alts. Without any kind of XP boost, at level 18, you should be leveling once an hour or so. That pace should stay constant pretty much through to 80. Focus on dailies and exploring zones you have not.

That’s all I can really say. I level alts regularly, so I really have a tough time believing you are having that much trouble leveling. I’ve never noticed a difference in time to level pre-NPE to post-NPE. If anything, the earlier levels were faster.

The trait changes are indeed a problem for a lot of people. Personally, I was one of those people that leveled up so quickly I would be 80 with all of my trait points to spend, or almost all of them still left to spend. I never found the traits necessary to level up, but some people found the changes game-breaking. Different strokes I suppose.

Meanwhile, that other game sporting 3.3mil sales on it’s latest expansion, hitting 10mil mark in subscription, which happened for the first time since …. i dunno, 4-5 years? If memory serves me right. What good expansion can do. I’am sure their cash shop sales doing MORE than great. xP

A majority of the WoW players had quit WoW/taken a long break from WoW, or have been trying every new MMO that comes out to try and recapture that feeling they used to have when they played WoW.

Blizzard knows this so they continue to come out with expansions and incentives to get people to come back and recapture that feeling. But every time a new WoW expansion comes out, a ton of players get it, play it for a few weeks, maybe a couple of months, and then they are right back where they started. Bored of the monotony, the raiding, the gear system, etc. It’s a temporary cycle, but that’s fine for Blizzard because it gets them a nice injection of money every year or two. They honestly don’t have to worry about maintaining subscribers anymore because they’ve reached enough people at this point that simply putting out an expansion will bring people back temporarily.

They could literally put on an expansion called “WoW: Expansion Number 8” with a tag-line of “It’s WoW, but now with changes and extra stuff!” and it will draw the same people every time. It never lasts, but box sales are box sales. And if they are lucky a lot of the subscribers will forget to cancel their subs, so they even get a nice revenue stream, even from people that aren’t playing anymore.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

If they have not played in a while, between living story and feature packs there has been a good amount of content added.

I’ve tried. Doesn’t have nearly the same punch as a properly marketed expansion. I hate to point to WoW but they were adding content constantly as well but what draws everyone back time and again? Expansions.

So if the 4 added story lines had been marketed as an ‘expansion’, with a zippy new box and all sorts of hype, and you had been charged 50+ bucks for it, you would now be happy?

No thanks. I will take Anet’s method of adding content. Doesn’t cost the user any $$, and if I don’t like one or more of them, I don’t feel like I wasted any $$.

I honestly think that’s what he’s saying.

That he or his friends don’t care if GW2 adds an expansion’s worth of content, he needs it to be marketed as an expansion and sold separately in a fancy box with commercials promoting it in order for it to “count” as something new essentially.

Honestly this guy is a game developer’s dream customer lol.

Surely someone with a degree in network engineering can figure out a game meant for young teenagers and up.

what does that have to do with anything? i know plenty of people with degrees that dont play any video games. and im usually pretty good at video games, as i said im good at swtor and someone here mentioned earlier they found it harder than this game.

you may want some tips from the trolls above.

Also, if you are used to just running into a group of monsters and mashing keys to kill them, then you will definitely find Silverwastes harder. Look at the monster descriptions under their health bars. Some of them require specific positioning, or AoE to avoid. And if you don’t have at least two condition removal type abilities (combos included) available in that zone, you will have a bad time.

In Silverwastes you need to pay attention. You need to fight one monster at a time if you are dying a lot, not run into a group like the other zones in GW2.

You may very well need to change your utilities and traits while you play in that zone. (I’m going out on a limb to assume you are playing a zerk build as most people new to the game will default to that build). Zerker is solid DPS, but is mostly meant for people that know how to time dodges properly and use combos/condition removal properly (once you get to “difficult” content).

You really need to be OK with things dying slower in that zone and taking more effort than normal to kill. But also realize this is what pretty much every player has been wanting. The majority of PvE in GW2 is faceroll. We need content like this. You simply need to adapt.

Hope this helps.

As i said, warrior is my main…gonna ignore the trolls now, look at their post history they always trolling peoples threads instead of making any constructive posts.

especially lvl 80 areas and i am fully geared and traited and achievements are pretty much impossible. hopefully things will change guess in the meantime ill go back to swtor, dont mind paying 15 a month if i actually enjoy playing the game.

What are you doing and you have a problem? And which Achievements are you talking about?

SIlverwaste its just ridiculously hard and all the events fail and even the story achievements i cant get a single one done.

That’s odd. When I go to Silverwastes none of the events fail. I see people getting the Dolyaks to the camps, reclaiming camps, and so on. Just out of curiosity though, which story achievements are trying to get?

I can’t get any of the story achievemnts. for example i just tried the one where u escort mission and dont let the npcs die, and i even had 2 people in a group with me, and 1 npc always dies.

I believe for that particular achievement you pretty much have to set mines on all the corpses. I could see you failing once or twice before you figure that out.

Whenever I’m fighting I’m pretty much always hitting F in between skills to do AoE loot.

I highly suggest getting used to that. I never have to worry about missing loot, especially since the loot drops right on top of you even if the person you killed is not. Just mash that F.

PvE is incapable of ever requiring skill so it’s pointless to change it.

Which team did you participate in the most recent dungeon tournaments?

Did any of those players have to play mindgames against the AI?

You realize there are plenty of activities/sports that do not involve head-to-head competition with other humans right, but rather compete on performance? Are you suggesting those activities don’t really require skill? (skiing, archery, skateboarding, shooting, gymnastics, etc.)

Think of PvE as these activities. Sure it require no skill to pull a string back on a bow (unless you are weak) and fire an arrow. But it does take skill to do it accurately and to hit targets at long distances consistently. Same goes with PvE. Sure it’s easy to make it through a dungeon. But it takes skill to do it faster than anyone else on the planet.

My ultimate point is: you couldn’t do it if you wanted to. (Plus I bet your PvP isn’t as hawt as you might like others to believe)

Many people i see always bring the same old argument. This is not ‘wow.’….this is Gw2………But in case you haven’t noticed, Wow is still doing great, Aion which is another game published by NCsoft seems to be doing better than GW2…….Clearly Gw2 needs some significant changes to match up to them player base wise……….Mounts, Flight, Raids, Some actual progression in gear instead of just skins etc maybe some things that might rejuvenate the game……lets not just say this is not wow and ignore them. This game is already leaning far too much towards ‘casual’ players. I think we should all accept this once and for all, most MMO players like Wow type features. Am not saying that GW2 should become a wow clone. But there is no harm in comparing and bringing in some traditional MMO features in to this game.

And before somebody tells me to go play those games , i dont want to pay subscription fees and i like the graphics here. But I want gw2 to be better than those games.

Did Aion add mounts since the last time I played?

As far as flight goes, the game is centered around it (Aion). The world was created from the ground up to allow for it. You can’t just add that stuff in later without having to overhaul a lot of the areas that look accessible but in reality aren’t.

Travel speed isn’t a problem in this game. If mounts are added I don’t think they should have a movement speed increase. If the goal is simply to look epic, then it should be a transformation tonic.

Most people play solo.

Your data?

“Most people who play solo” play single-player games. When you come to a massively multiplayer online role-playing game, you play with other players, want it or not.

I don’t really see the point in certain monsters being weak to specific classes (boon strippers) and strong to others. Most people play solo. It isn’t like a Warrior can come up to a wolf and say “oh dang, this mob uses lots of retaliation, let me go and swap to my boon stripping build real quick”.

Welcome to the mesmer world, where your 60% of damage in form of a phantasm just vapoured after the target trash mob died, and the other 10 mobs are glad to kill you while you’re hitting them with a wet noodle. So what did you say about a warrior vs. retal again?

My data? When I roam around Tyria, I rarely see groups of people unless there is a boss or an event. When either ends, everyone splits off in their own direction. Now I can’t possibly claim any concrete numbers, who can, but most people I know, if they are exploring a zone, or in this case exploring Dry Top/Silverwastes, are doing so on their own time. I used this information to make my sweeping generalization; which I honestly feel is more accurate than not. Group play exists and it happens, but exploration, for the majority of people in my opinion, is done solo.

I feel for Mesmers. I really do. I have an 80 mesmer and the phantasm mechanic can be god-awful. That being the case, however, I still don’t think we should perpetuate a bad feature. They should rework the phantasm system if anything.

[Suggestion] All characters to pass Exp to alts

I used to be okay with allowing lvl 40’s into dungeons because at least they would have access to every major trait. Now major traits come at 60 (grandmaster 80), characters don’t get initial access to any of them, and trait points are backloaded to the late 70s. Why even include a lvl 70 when it’s clear he has no grandmaster traits and probably missing a key major or two?

Are you suggesting that because a level 40 (or a level 70 for that matter) doesn’t have access to certain traits that they are essentially useless in a dungeon? I’m gonna call BS on that one.

In fact, I would go so far as to say you can clear pretty much all content without equipping any traits. Give it a go sometime. Sure you don’t get extra bonus effects, but your base damage output, survivability, etc. are still enough to get through any of GW2’s content.

That said, I agree that the new trait system isn’t good, I preferred the old system like most people do. But to use lack of traits as the basis for not bringing someone into a group is silly since the difference is negligible, especially at level 40….

Source: I’ve recently run an all lowbie group (level ranges 35-50, was a guildie alt run) through AC p1 for the funs. Obviously, killing things went slower simply because our gear was lower level (on average we were in greenish gear I would say), but at no point did I think to myself, “man, if only we had a few more traits…”. We still cleared it without wiping.

Obviously if you are considering a level 40 or 70 character for a group that you aren’t interested in speedrunning. So I’m honestly curious what “key” traits you think are so important that if someone doesn’t have them, they shouldn’t even consider running dungeons. As far as I know there are no such traits.

@OP I think the issue you have is that you don’t think 1-2 levels/day is a fast enough pace. Once you get past the starter levels (1-15), GW2 is pretty much a 1-2 levels/day kind of game (if you play ~2h each day). And that’s consistent from 15-80.

I have no problem with ret being taken away. I main a Guardian though, so that might be part of it.

For some people you pretty much had to avoid them in any substantial numbers because you don’t necessarily have the tools to counter the retaliation.

I can only assume that’s the reason ret was taken away.

JPs give a nice chunk. Exploration gives an even larger chunk (will need a char of each race to complete this one I believe). Slayer is an obvious one to crank out some AP.

PvP and WvW can yield nice AP for the earlier tiers. Eventually in WvW the requirements become stupid.

Guardians also specialize in damage mitigation over damage reduction. They have, IIRC, the lowest HP pool of any class in game. However, they have access to multiple aegis skills, absorption skills, heal skills, and reflect skills. This is where you get into mitigation (minus heals, those are for obvious use when needed).

In a group, a good guardian knows how to properly use these mitigation skills for the team. Wall of Reflection is a staple guardian skill in group play (if there are ranged enemies/bosses).

Guardians also have access to a lot of AoE condition removal. Which can also be viewed as damage mitigation to an extent.

Silverwastes is independent of the Living Story. As long as you log in at least once during the time a Living Story chapter is going on, you will have it unlocked for when you do hit 80 and want to do it.

Actually if Silver Wastes works like Dry Top (and I assume it does) you don’t need to have the story unlocked to go there.

Dry Top works like any other map, as long as you know where it is and you’re high enough level to survive the trip (or have friends to help) you can just walk there and once you’re on the map you can play all the open-world events, open bandit chests, map the shoulder pieces etc. just like anyone else can.

The only thing you need to unlock is the story instances.

Yes. I suppose my wording implied otherwise? When I said it was independent of Living Story I meant you can still access it even if you don’t have the LS unlocked. And if you do have it unlocked, you can do the LS at your leisure when you hit 80.

Either way Silverwastes is open to everyone.

100% agree with OP. I’ve started and finished a CoF p1 run before a speedrunning group that demanded “xpert 10k AP zerk heavies only” even started.

What’s that saying? Cut your nose to spite your face? Something like that. That’s basically what they do for the sake of a “speedrun”.

If it asked for heavies, it wasn’t a speedrunning group.

Believe it or not but I ask for zerker gear check because they are far less toxic than other players. My runs are smooth and I make in game friends for further dungeoning, and I solo the dungeon while waiting for people anyway.

I think they wanted to fill their last spots with heavies and not have a full heavy team. There were 2 eles and a mesmer in group IIRC. I think they kept losing one person here and there because of impatience. That’s my conclusion anyway.
