Sounds like you’re in the same boat as a lot of us who have been playing the game since release or near release.
We are pretty much running in maintenance mode right now. Log on, do dailies, socialize briefly with guild members/friends, maybe some PvP, hop off to play Witcher, HoTS, or other new game that is currently out.
GW2 is a fantastic game, but like with any MMO at this point you get burned out without a constant stream of content. Luckily there are plenty of players who have not hit the wall yet and are experiencing the game for the first time. But for many of us we are just biding our time until expansion.
There’s nothing wrong with taking a break from GW2. Most of us have done it. If you can’t find a reason to log on at the moment, then don’t. Find something that will hold your interest until the expansion. It’s really no big deal, you won’t fall behind.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Luckily you can still complete 95% of what GW2 has to offer without jumping, but honestly, if your health, vision, and coordination are so bad to be an impairment, then you might need to accept that there will be areas in most video games that you won’t easily be able to complete.
For them to limit all content to be able to be completed by people with poor vision, health, coordination, dexterity, etc. would likely create content that is mind-numbingly easy for the majority of players.

You left Q4 last year? I’m fairly certain the changes you described were implemented around Q2 last year. So this shouldn’t have been new to you.
But yea, most disliked the changes and they will be changing. But knowing the playerbase, they will be up in arms over that as well. The GW2 community really hates change.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Well, luckily you do not need Ascended armor for Tequatl. Like even a little bit.
So simplest solution is a set of exotic for running Teq/Wurm, and Ascended for WvW.
Exotic takes no time at all to get.

If you have trouble dodging KDs, then perhaps you need to equip a utility skill that will break stun?
If you have multiple stun breaks and dodges and are still having trouble avoiding KDs. Then I really feel it is a L2P issue. As much as I hate to be someone who says that.
I have 10 level 80 characters and in all my time I’ve never felt that PvE knockdowns were ever an issue. Never even registered.

Celestial is trash on most classes, from what I’m told, but it’s actually very good for Engineer. If you’re using grenadier builds, you might actually want some assassins gear mixed in there to bump your crit to just above 60-ish.
It’s quite awesome on elementalist actually.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I, uh….what? I leveled my last character to 80 in 20hrs play time. No tomes, just EoTM train.
OP, exploring and doing hearts is one of the slowest ways to level.
Suggestions: make sure to do the dailies. You get XP scrolls for completing them. Also simply logging in will net you Tomes of Knowledge that grant you a free level once a week or so.
Try actual PvP (not WvW). The reward tracks reward Tomes of Knowledge quite frequently.
If you insist on simply doing hearts/exploring. Make sure you hit every POI, vista, and skill point in the area. They are worth more XP than you might expect.
Also, if you ever see an event, go do it. They will give you more XP per time played than hearts will.
Gather every node you see while exploring. That XP adds up.
Finally, if you really, really just want to hit 80 ASAP. Jump into Edge of the Mists, locate the commander tag on the map, make your way there, then simply follow along with them. You will get XP out the wazoo.

Three days later I’ve been kicked from the guild without any explanation while I was offline. I’d been online every day but hadn’t had the chance to do any instance running.
I suppose my first question to you would be, did you ask why you were kicked?
Can’t speak to the guild you were booted from but the following are reasons we might kick:
-Inactive for 30 days without a heads up you are taking a break (people burn out on GW2, it happens, we get that, so we just ask you let us know so we can adjust your rank to reflect you won’t be active so we don’t accidentally kick you)
-Not representing, after being reminded we require rep 3×. We understand full rep isn’t for everyone, but we let everyone know that before joining, so there’s really no excuse for not doing it since you were told ahead of time. This is rarely an issue and typically if someone has a problem with the rep rule they will leave on good terms. We of course have exceptions such as: being a member of TTS or similar guild and are doing Teq/Wurm, accessing your personal guild bank, running with a WvW guild because you are on a different server than our home server, running all guild missions back to back with a guild that specializes in that. Outside of these reasons you need to be repping us.
-Extreme profanity in guild chat. We’re talking toxic language: racist/sexual/offensive comments are asked to be kept out of guild chat at all times. We have children that play and if you want to speak with profanity you can do so in party chat or whisper or what have you. Just not in guild chat.
-Being a troll in public channels like /map. Who the heck would want someone like that representing their guild. But it would have to be plainly obvious to everyone you were clearly trolling to be a troll. Not just having a bad day. Luckily this one has never come up.
If we ever kick anyone, for any reason, we send an in-game mail explaining why and that they are more than welcome to return if they choose. Most common reason is inactivity. We are looking for active players, not just a giant list of people. As it stands we have 120 members, 97 of which have logged in within the last 24hrs. Quality over quantity.

I have all classes at 80. For me, Guardian/Ranger most fun, mesmer/warrior least fun.
You will find everyone has very different opinions. So your question is sort of a waste.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Do you play on US servers? Because that might explain why you have low population during your playtime.
Also, as Cyninja said, most people taxi to the same map so they can muster enough people for the events. Monitor the LFG tab and look for people populating a SW map, join their group, then join their instance, then leave group so they can taxi more people.
EDIT: Your 3am is like our 1pm, which is definitely not peak hours by any stretch of the imagination. If you want to play during US peak, you need to play at like 10-11am.

I think he’s saying that he doesn’t think its possible that gem store sales alone could be supporting the development of an expansion and all content updates. As in, the money they would get from HoT sales could never cover the costs to develop it because the only people who would buy the expansion are people who still enjoy playing GW2, which I’m guessing he thinks is too small a number to support an expansion’s cost to develop?
OP, I think you underestimate how much money they make on the gem store. Couple that with box sales and it certainly can provide an adequate budget for HoT.

Tbh , i find hard to understand why you guys oppose this. The only skin we “earn” in this game was vine backpack and lumi set.
In any case , if buying this set would make a person happy , then, why not ? What bad would do to any of us if this guy gets this set for the gems ?
It wouldn’t do any bad, but some people have grinded AP so they can be the few who have access to this skin. And I don’t mean grind like they grinded a week, I’m talking they’ve been grinding AP since day one.
You don’t see a problem with someone working towards something for years only to have it now become available to everyone with a credit card or a bunch of gold?
No it won’t physically harm anyone if it was available, but it’s a complete kick to the groin for people who have worked diligently for it.
As someone said, I personally would be ok with it on gem store if the price was 40,000 gems per piece. That would deter 99.999% from getting it. And those like OP that absolutely must have it and absolutely do not want to put any effort into getting it can make a sizable investment to Anet for it. In addition, someone with that set with low AP would also have to carry the public shame of spending $3000 for a skin because they simply didn’t want to work for it.

Also played pretty much every major MMO starting with UO in the 90s. In each I have leveled multiple characters to level cap.
It’s boring. All of them are boring. GW2, WoW, UO, AC, EQ, Aion, you name it and its boring to level up when you’ve already leveled multiple characters.
I get that OP is trying to paint the picture that GW2 is boring to level up after you’ve leveled up multiple characters, like it’s the only game on the planet like this, but it’s not. They are all like this.
Leveling up one character is fun. The second one, less fun, but still fun because you can do it a different way. Third one starts to feel like a chore, after that it’s pretty much work.
GW2 is the only game I’ve played where I have leveled TEN characters to level cap. Usually I get bored long before this. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been bored leveling up characters in GW2, but in my opinion GW2 has been far less boring to level up than every MMO I’ve ever played.
Ultimately they are all boring, though. Once you’ve leveled up enough characters.

In game we see that the counterparts to vikings are stereotyped as loving beer. This is something they put a LOT of stress on, they refer to beer and ale all the time.
Other races however don’t have this at all.
I’m pretty sure that every single country in Europe has consumed alcohol since the dawn of time

WTF I never said I won’t buy the expansion. I even said already I will buy it.
It’s about the fact that it will be SLIGHTLY pay 2 win and the important part is “slightly”.
Also yes with a seperated queue it wouldn’t be anymore but I don’t even want that.
Guildwars PvP is only a little part of Guildwars and with the current price (in sales) you get more than enough content to justice the little disadvatage you will have in PvP.The majority won’t say “Guildwars 2 is pay 2 win” because
1. PvP is only a small part of GW2
2. The advantage will probably be minimalisticThe only exception would be if the elite specs will be way too powerfull which probably won’t happen.
And to make it clear I HAVE NO PROBLEM THAT NON-HOTS PLAYERS (or GW2 purists, how you call them) WILL PLAY VERSUS HOTS PLAYERS in PvP.
They should know that they can’t use all the skills the others have and if they really want to get the whole (and 100% fair) PvP part of GW2 they will have to pay for it.
I really do understand what you are trying to say, believe it or not, but your entire point is based on an incorrect understanding of what Pay-to-Win means. You have over-simplified the term into obscurity.
This isn’t an agree to disagree issue, either. You are defining the term in a technical sense based on the words, rather than its actual sense based on the phrase and the context in which it is normally used.
It happens.

You do realize what CULTURAL means, don’t you? Simply put, it applies only to that culture, hence it doesn’t belong to any other culture…end of discussion!
I’m fairly certain I can wear clothes from a different culture to my own. They may not sell it to me, but if something is popular there is usually a way to get it. Also, culture by definition does not imply race. You can have different cultures within the same race and conversely different races within the same culture.

I would effing love dungeons that scaled from 1 to 5 people, or even more. Only have 2 people? No problem! (I’m talking about running the dungeon normally, I realize there are some people who can duo a number of dungeons in GW2, that’s not what I’m talking about here)
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
As I already said the slightest advantage IS pay to win for me. And since elite specs won’t be bad or 100% balanced you WILL have an advantage. It’s quite simple.
Except you aren’t playing the same game anymore. You are playing Guild Wars 2, everyone else is playing Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns. You can’t compare the two.
You are trying to argue for being able to either have access to all specializations in PvP without paying for the expansion, or not allowing people who have paid for the expansion to use their specializations in PvP. Do you not see a problem with this?
I really hope, for the sake of people like you who feel this way, that they let GW2 purists (which I will call you guys from now on) to be able to play PvP with each other and no one else. And further, I honestly hope that there are so few people that fall into this category that you/they can no longer even play PvP. You won’t have to worry about balance if you physically can’t play PvP with anyone.
Does this make me a bad person?

Totally. What I don’t think is fair is that I have to start at level 1 and am forced to level to 80. I mean, it just isn’t fair that someone who has played the game for longer gets to be a higher level than I am and have more stats and traits. I should be able to make a character that starts out at level 80..
While I know this was a jest(and off-topic), but I do actually think GW2 would do better without levels and that leveling is actually redundant. Most content you do in PVE@80 is scaled and usually not even in level 80 zones, both WvW and sPvP are scaled, and dungeons are scaled with a minimum level. So you have a leveling system, but everything scales, which makes levels meaningless.
Progression is fundamental to RPGs, and MMOs of course by extension. People like to see some level of measurement of time put in. Heck, many single player games follow a leveling/progression system.
I mean, just think if Elder Scrolls or Final Fantasy games had no character progression. I can’t claim they couldn’t somehow make it work where your characters didn’t progress, but I certainly wouldn’t enjoy it. I like working toward making my character stronger and stronger the more I play. Single player games fortunately have a definitive end, whereas MMOs need to be able to keep some kind of progression indefinitely. This is why Ascended armor exists in the first place.
I’ve got 1800+ hrs into this game since early release. I’ve completed every dungeon, done every fractal level, have crafted legendaries, crafted multiple Ascended armor sets, have done every world boss, every jumping puzzle, logged countless hours in PvP and WvW, have 10 level 80 characters (completed the above around the 1400hr mark). People like me have fizzled and are anxiously awaiting HoT so that we can progress.
I know some of the new players have yet to complete all of these things so I understand why they feel Ascended armor is a time sink and it isn’t fair, but honestly, if you play the game regularly, you will achieve all of these things too. They really need to get over this “I want it NOW!” mentality.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Yes well obviously I’m not going to bother now that I know it’s true. Doesn’t it bother anyone else that the game is like this? You paid for a game, after seeing all those cool armor and weapon sets, just to learn that in order to have them you have to play it to an unhealthy level, and then, play it even farther to, what looks like, an obsessive disorder.
In order to have arguably the best weapon in the game? Does not bother me.
Plus, the person who took 2 years to get a legendary clearly didn’t work towards it specifically for those 2 years. What they probably meant is they played the game for 2 years and were casually collecting the components for them.
If someone honestly went out of their way to farm for gold so they could purchase the materials (or even the sword outright), it would have taken far less time.
Either way, this is an MMO, like any MMO they need to have time sinks for the people that play 10hrs/day. For those of us that play 1-2hrs/day, there will be items that cannot be obtained in a short amount of time. Otherwise every single person would have Legendary items.
There are plenty of players that have 5+ legendaries, heck I know someone who has every single one of them. The hard part is saving up the money to purchase the pre-cursor and saving up the money for the T6 mats/lodestones. You can either treat making gold like a job to get it over with, or you can get it leisurely. Leisurely will obviously take significantly longer than if you were to buckle down and treat it like a job.

Since GW2 showed news of the nerco two handed blade class. I would love to get my hands on the weapon Twilight but to do that I need the sword dusk. I look up where I can find it and found no useful information on it. Anyone know of a way to get it that does not use the trading post to buy it. I want to earn no buy.
“the greatest things in life are earned not bought”
I used to think like that too. I wanted to earn Dusk, not just buy it from the trading post.
Let me tell you. After you throw more money in the forge over the course of a year than what Dusk is worth, you will begin to realize that earning the money and then using that money to purchase Dusk is just as satisfying and really the cheapest guaranteed way to get Dusk.
Sure you could get it cheaper from the MF if you happen to get lucky, but the vast majority of players are not in the favor of the RNG gods.
I’m not suggesting buying gems and converting, I’m suggesting earning the gold through dungeons, SW, world bosses, ascended crafts, anything you need to do.
Best of luck to you! I love my Twilight!

Does anyone else think it is totally not fair that we have to grind this time gated gear out? I mean I just recently started the game and would like to get this gear but it seems like a pain. It’s just not fair that others who have been around since launch have multiple sets. It makes me feel so far behind everyone else. I heard that stat difference isn’t much but 5% seems like a lot to me. I’d suggest to up exotic gear to the same as ascended so we don’t have this problem. This also goes against what I thought Anet stood for with no vertical progression and for casual gamers. This is just like WoW with gear grind. And then you need multiple sets of it for different runes and builds. It should just be for fractals. /end rant
Totally. What I don’t think is fair is that I have to start at level 1 and am forced to level to 80. While on the topic, does anyone else find it unfair that people who have been around since launch and been playing WvW get to be thousands of ranks higher than everyone else? I want to be rank 3000, but it’s so unfair I have to grind that out. They should give you the option to choose what WvW rank you are when you make your character.

At least with the Sylvari armor, it pulls color from your character’s skin color in addition to the dyeable spots. It also glows along with Sylvari glowing. Both things that I feel would require far too much effort to modify for the other races.

Do fractals. All ascended chests have Wupwup (Celestial) prefix. I almost fully geared my elementalist simply doing fractals. The coat came from ambrite collection, and I crafted the leggings.
It’s true. My ranger is in full celestial ascended from fractals. Not necessarily ideal, but I didn’t have to craft it so how can I complain. Plus I only WvW with that character and celestial suits me just fine for those purposes.

Bringing back the dead always comes with a price. A Life for a life. You shall lose yours if you continue on this path.
Careful what you wish for!
Bringing a guild back from the dead is just as hard as creating a new one.
But if you’re willing to go on this difficult journey here is what you have to do, including, but not limited to:
- Be the Guild leader;
- If possible recruit some trusted friends to be your Officers and help with the PR.
- Purge your current guild of the inactive players (1 month + offline);
- Have a nice website setup for people to apply (enjin.com works well);
- Explain the goal of your guild and requirements;
- Advertise on forum and in game;
- Spam in main towns and help potentials;
- Do activities to recruit people;
- Lead Guild Missions to entice people to stay and other activities (lottery, dungeons, WvW raids, pvp tournaments, map exploration, boss fights, training sessions, etc…);
- Lot of PR and dedication everyday.
Good luck.
And when you do start getting recruits, make an effort to play with them and be sure to keep guild chat as active as possible.
If someone says hello or asks a question in guild chat, make sure they get a response. Nothing will frustrate a new member more than if they feel nobody is paying attention to them or even cares they are a member.

For all we know everyone who simply refuses to purchase HoT (seriously why? more content is a godsend), will be queued for PvP together. If so, your queue wait might be ridiculously long, but you wouldn’t have to worry about a balance issue.
Basically all players in a PvP match would need to have the same version of the game.
Simple solution that would prevent the stingy from QQing about P2W PvP balance.
I’m concerned, though, that a lot of the people that are doing the QQing have never played an MMO that has had an expansion before. I mean, most of them raise level caps and give access to more powerful items. How did you all handle that mentally in the past? Just quit the game when an xpac comes out because you refuse to pay for it?

For those that may not know, you can see which achievments give titles/rewards directly from the achievements themselves in the Achievement panel.
Highly recommend checking what the ultimate reward is for an achievement to avoid unnecessary disappointment such as OP is describing.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Agree with OP. And some comments.
1. Full ascended vs full exotic is 11.5%, not “5%” and not “miniscule”.
It’s worth noting that ascended trinkets and an ascended weapon make up 9.2% of that 11.5%. Most people will get trinkets through normal course of play. The weapon is the only wild card. But crafting a weapon or two is a lot easier than crafting a full armor set.
As I and others have said, the armor itself is really not worth your time unless you do fractals.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I’d call lies to that. You will never get a full set of the stats you want without crafting.
Also i will just repeat myself for the 3rd time here since people don’t seem to read anything but the latest post in here. I do not mind the grind. It is not an easier way i want, just a different one that doesnt involve crafting.
I’m curious why you are against the crafting aspect of it? Does it seem overwhelming / confusing? Do you just find it boring?
If you just find it boring, I can understand, but keep in mind the actual crafting process takes little time. Most of your time is spent leveling up your crafting to 500, and if you have the money that is a process that can be completed within an hour. The rest of the crafting is at most 5-10min/day. Since you have time-gated materials, and you know you will need X number of them. I just craft the time gated stuff every day until I build up a nice stock, then I dedicate 30min-1hr on a random weekend to putting the rest of the pieces together.
I’ve crafted 3 ascended sets and I want to say total actual time spent crafting is under 3hrs (of my1800hr play time).
Oh and make sure you have plenty of dragonite and emp frags. I assume you have dust coming out of your ears so don’t worry about that one.

This catches my attention. Playing opposite gendered characters isn’t something that should have to be justified any more than choosing chocolate over skittles. There are reasons- sure, there are reasons for anything- but justification implies some kind of transgression.
The fact that people find this transgressive illustrates our culture’s gender insecurities- someone asked upthread why this conversation has gone on so long, and this is why, for me. It’s fascinating.
Note to reader: I’m not saying you’re insecure, of course your motivations are completely rational and free from neurosis…
I was playing a little devil’s advocate I must admit. The gist of his comment was “I’m straight, so I like to look at girls from behind, duh”, implying that any normal heterosexual male would clearly want to choose a girl character, which indirectly implies that not wanting to make a female character as a hetero male is eyebrow raising. Also a straight guy, I played with GI Joes growing up so when I play with virtual dolls (which is basically what MMO characters are) I gravitate toward the more masculine “toys”.
Otherwise I’m really just dressing up a Barbie doll and trying to justify it by saying that Barbie dolls are sexier.
I’d rather play with my GI Joe and use the Internet for my other……..needs.

You don’t have to complete any jumping puzzles for map completion.
There’s that Vista in the SW of Dredgehaunt (near Sorrow’s Embrace) that requires completing the JP to get to it. Can’t think of any other’s off of the top of my head. Luckily that JP isn’t terribly difficult, but you still have to get all the way to the end.
For the most part, the “jumping puzzles” to get to vistas aren’t actual jumping puzzles but rather mini jumping events. Sometimes you have to jump from mushroom cap to mushroom cap, or up a winding tower with some beams toward the top you have to successfully jump on. I imagine these are the “puzzles” OP is talking about?

If the stat difference is that insignificant, why not remove it ?
The stat difference is not insignificant. Why do you want to negate my hard work instead of building your own armor?
It is insignificant with armor.
The DPS difference between a character in full exotic armor with ascended trinkets and weapons vs. a character in full ascended armor with ascended trinkets and weapons is 2.3%. This has been figured out time and time again.
Ascended armor is only worth it if you a) want to run high level fractals or b) simply want the absolute BiS. Otherwise simply work on trinkets and weapons and call it a day.
@OP it should not be removed because it is not difficult to obtain if you put even a little bit of effort into it. Every MMO needs a time sink. This is one of them. Ascended armor isn’t new, the Ascended tier of armor was added within 3months of the game’s release…

I like all of the people who use the excuse “I like to look at her butt instead of a guy”.
Not sure about all of you guys, but the amount of time I spend actually looking at my character as they are running or fighting it pretty small. Most of the time I’m looking at my target, my surroundings, other players, my skill CDs, inventory, foot placement, etc.
I have female characters because I have male characters too and wanted a balance. Their derriere did not enter into the mix.
Some people honestly sound like they can’t play a male character because they can’t control staring at their butts and thus must play a female character, because if they are going to stare at butts, it might as well be lady butts (I feel like Tina from Bob’s Burgers lol). Butts….

Agalloch: I am trying to understand why you would need to see your character name.
I’ll go out on a limb and say it is mostly to see the 100% completion star. I know when I first got 100% completion I wanted to see my own star, just to see how it would look to other people.
Ended up partying with someone and having them target me so I could see it.

We need to stop looking at these names as if they are replacing our profession name. They are not. They are a specialization of the core profession, the base profession is still there. A Chronomancer is still a Mesmer and a Dragonhunter is still a Guardian.
The problem is that Dragonhunter can just as easily apply to rangers, thieves, warriors, engineers, mesmers, necromancers, elementalists, etc. I mean, seriously, if the only qualifier for being a Dragonhunter is that you specifically go out and target large game, then guardian or warrior or thief or anything could have just as lazy an explanation to justify the name. A thief specializing as dragonhunter would make just as much sense (they use their cunning, stealth, and ability to target vital areas to take down large game for example).
The problem most people have is that Dragonhunter just feels like a lazy afterthought for a specialization versus Chronomancer, Tempest, or Druid. I mean, Chronomancer, Tempest, or Druid would make no sense if it applied to any of the other classes. But Dragonhunter would make equal sense to all classes across the board.
Any class could just as easily “specialize” in hunting large game / dragons. That’s why it disappoints all of us Guardian mains. Guardian specialization should be a logical extension of its current theme — like a Holy Flame specialization or a Light Warden specialization. But Dragonhunter? That one makes just as much sense as Engineers being dragonhunters. Heck, with rifles and turrets and gadgets, even engineer would make more sense than guardian at being a dragonhunter.
