I love the rationalization from some people too:
“Well, guardians are protectors and fight evil, and so they are protecting the whole world from an evil dragon by hunting it, it’s like the ultimate type of guarding!”
or
“It’s a specialization and the Guardians are specializing in dragon hunting and Braham is a Guardian and his mom is a Ranger, so it makes sense”
Like we aren’t all hunting dragons…that’s the whole premise lol.
I’m still on the page that the name Dragon Hunter can be applied to literally any of the classes with the explanations given, whereas all of the other specializations announced so far are pretty unique to the class. It wouldn’t make much sense calling a Warrior a Reaper or Tempest, but calling a Warrior/Ranger/Thief/Engineer a Dragon Hunter, that makes just as much sense as it does for Guardian.
At this point I think most have accepted it like I have.
Just feels like a cop-out to me.

I wonder when we will finally see 4 fractal dailys, since they really seem to want
force us more and more into them.New Legendarys only for fractal players is really a great concept.
A legendary backpiece. You can already get an exclusive Ascended backpiece from fractals and I don’t see people crying about that.
Or do you think that fractals will have the only legendary backpiece available in the entire game, because I highly doubt that. But even so, whatever. Good items should in fact require someone to put effort into it.
I wanted the Glorious armor skin, but didn’t really enjoy PvP that much, did I kitten about it like so many did? Nope, I sucked it up and set a goal for myself to play X games a day until I had all of the pieces.
No one is putting a gun to your head, if you don’t want to play fractals, don’t play them, but you can’t expect to get the exclusive items from that game mode on top of it.
It’s like you’ve never played an MMO before. Sometimes there are items that are exclusive to a dungeon, game mode, zone, etc. This isn’t exclusive to GW2.

As someone with over 4mil karma, I scoff at your 900k.
Things I’ve used my karma on:
-Obsidian shards for legendary crafts
-Outfitting a new level 80 in full exotic
-Buying the gloves from Bloodtide Coast to convert gold (not as great a conversion as you’d expect quite honestly, you can get ~100g or so per like 1.3m karma if I remember correctly)
-buying all of the karma vendor only skins
That’s it.

That said, I don’t think anyone can really tell you if you should or shouldn’t delete a character to reroll. Sometimes you need to make a decision on your own.

Ascended drop rates are extremely low, and earning a ring can take a month… That’s 1 ring that will fill up 1/6 slots for 1 character on 1 build.
If by ‘earning a ring can take a month’ you mean one a day, every day…
I take it you don’t fractal.

Draknar Necros are not stupid strong in pvp, the cele signet build is the first decent all around build necros have ever had. If your team can’t kill a terrormancer or powermancer in pvp it’s cause your bad. Necros in pvp can be countered completely because of large cast times and inability to get out of focus fire.
I disagree completely. The giant health pool, constant conditions, they are one of the strongest PvP classes in the game. Even with 2 or 3 condition removal abilities it does nothing against them.
Maybe you haven’t been playing against good condi necros? Because they clean up in PvP.
Maybe you can show us all these awesome necros playing high level PvP at the upcoming PvP tournament? Surely since necros are so good they will be highly represented there right?
Nos from Team Abjured plays Necro….
…..but either way, I guess you’re saying that everyone who plays PvP is at tournament level then?
You honestly think that if it wasn’t played in PvP tournaments then it isn’t good in PvP?
This has been proven time and time again to be merely perception. I’ll see if I can find that article on Smash Bros, where for forever everyone said Jigglypuff was terrible, low tier, no one played him in tournaments at high level. Time went on and tournament players started playing (and winning) with Jigglypuff, then suddenly Jigglypuff was considered top tier.
All of this because a bunch of casuals base everything off of what a few people who have spent hours and hours mastering a character play.
The kicker, of course, was that Smash Bros had done absolutely no rebalancing. The characters that are accepted as top tier changed based on who was winning in the tournaments.
This also goes for pretty much any MOBA. A character is considered terrible, until suddenly OMG a pro is playing that character, now it must be like the best ever!
My point is, a good player on a necro will own 99% of regular players. Whereas if the class was truly broken, a good necro would get owned by even a mildly competent ele/mesmer/whatever you feel is the current meta based on what other people are playing, which isn’t true.
You guys need to understand that top tier PvP teams practice and practice. You can’t generalize a class as bad because tournament winners aren’t playing it at the time (even though some top rated teams have Necros as I’ve mentioned).
EDIT: http://forrestthewoods.com/unbalanced-design-of-super-smash-brothers/
This is the article I was mentioning. Shows character rankings in SSBM over 12 years. Note the ups and downs of Ice Climbers and the growth in popularity of Jiggly. Nothing changed in the game balance wise. Tourny winners just started using some of the lower ranked characters and thus their perception changed.
Same concept here.

I know right? The game has yet to give me a single ascended item, no matter how much I do I never get any, just a single recipe from SW.
You play FoTM regularly and have gotten even ONE ascended ring???
I don’t believe you. Like even a little.
The abundance of Ascended gear comes from FoTM, and the vast majority of that is rings, which is what I’m assuming will be the items salvaged the most.
Outside of FoTM, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten an Ascended drop. Maybe once from Teq randomly. So, this whole Ascended salvage concept is almost assuredly for regularly FoTM players (that do above FoTM10) who have bank tabs full of useless rings.

Players were asking for this! Players were suggesting this.
This is just Anet listening to the players. And I for one am very glad that ANet has at least done something, they can always expand upon it later.
Two issues with the cinematic:
- “No one at first knew why she began her reign of terror. Some say she peered into the very fabric of the universe and went insane.” — Omadd’s machine isn’t shown until Season 2: Entanglement — The Machine, so why is it included to show what she saw? It ruins the build up to discover what really happened to her.
There was a short story, outside of the game, but very much made available during S1.
There was a story, but that didn’t showed what scarlet saw into the eternal alchemy. I tonly saw he got into omadd machine, and got out of there crazy.
You can’t expect a historian to capture suspense. They will fill you in on what happened with information they’ve gathered after the events.

Only a developer could confirm that, personally I don’t think so.
As someone else pointed out, the achievements for it are under Tradesman. If it isn’t permanent then this would be the first time in the history of GW2 that they put temporary achievements under a permanent panel.
It’s safe to assume it is very much a permanent addition. Even more so, it is a gold/ecto sink, not anything based on the Living Story or a seasonal event.

Greedy for charging for something we’ve already paid for.
There are two scenarios:
1) New player to GW2: $50 = base game + expansion ($10 for base game, $40 for expansion) Before anyone says anything, they have often sold the base game at the $10 figure during sales.
2) Veteran player to GW2: $50 = expansion + character slot ($40 expansion, $10 character slot).
So no, you are not being charged for something you’ve already paid for. You get an additional character slot if you are a Veteran player, which is what technically replaces the base game.

I can’t tell if we’re talking about PvP or PvE. Since when did necros stop being stupid strong in PvP? Are we preemptively getting upset that Reaper won’t also be stupid strong in PvP because of slow attack speed on one specific weapon?
If you are having trouble in PvP as a necro, perhaps you are playing it wrong? There are far weaker classes in PvP than necro.
PvE is a completely different story, and attack speed means nothing so long as average DPS is strong. It’s not like the enemy NPC is actively dodging your attacks…
The discrimination against necro has always been based on the weakness of condition stacking. Never heard of PvP necro discrimination.

I’m also hopeful about this, but one thing to think about is they literally cant copy and paste from last year. Lions arch is totally revamped.

Maybe I should be more specific. In order to get my stats similar to the way they were before I need to sacrifice a not inconsiderable amount of power to do so. In short, it would be a weaker build than before.
I think that was part of the plan, honestly. Keep in mind, however, they boosted armor stats to try and bridge the gap.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Basically what I’ve noticed is that this game is completely infested with what I call the Berzerker Cult. It’s people who insist that absolutely no gear except berzerker gear has any value whatsoever, and people who have any kind of survivability stat or use healing are just terrible players who need those things because they aren’t good enough to avoid getting hit in the first place.
Out of sheer curiosity, how does anyone even know that you have a survivability stat? I’ve played this game since early release and have run well over 1000 dungeon runs and have never once been asked to ping my gear. And of those 1000 runs, I’ve maybe done 100 in zerker gear, the rest have been in either celestial or gasp PVT, and have had no problem getting groups for dungeons or even FoTM50.
The zerker cult exists purely for speedrunning. If you are the type of person that wants to get through a dungeon as fast as humanly possible, then there will only be one optimal build. That goes for any game. There is always a best for a specific purpose. For speedrunning it is zerker. Most people these days seem to be in a giant hurry and think shaving off 5-10min from a dungeon run is priority, so they run zerker, which is fine, some days I want to speedrun, too.
That’s all it is. Avoid speedrunning groups and you will see that no one cares what gear you are wearing. Zerker only groups make up a small fraction of LFG postings.

Lately I have been playing my wizard and doing wizard-only dungeon runs with other people, and it just seems to work way better than anything else.
We can just use Frost Bow in chain and with the rest of the abilities even Arah is a breeze.
So why do other classes even exist? Staff Wizards do more damage because of AoE and they’re a lot easier to play than anything else. I trust another player with a wizard more than I trust one with a Mesmer or a Guardian for example.
Same logic as with zerk gear. Other builds seem strange and people might be using them because of being noobs, therefore if I want efficiency and reliability I make zerk only wizard only dungeon runs.
Me: 4, A-net 0, Kal Spiro 1
Because what you just described sounds really boring?

So I did a video a while back showing how downscaling sense the new patch has in fact made our characters weaker then before and showing that they only way we can make up the difference is by food and using every effect from traits and other things but you will still be at a weaker state.
So you don’t think, for example, the fact my level 80 Guardian is able to do +% damage in symbols, +% damage to burning enemies, +% damage while under effects of aegis, +% damage with GS, makes up for the 10% loss in stats? I’m thinking it does…

There was actually a post just like this a couple of weeks ago.
The main argument was that somehow this is discriminatory against people with stiff hands/arthritis and therefore should be removed.
My opinion was then and is now that, yes, it can be annoying, but it is really a mild inconvenience at best to have to click a second time once very time you level.

Thief was probably the fastest out of those I’ve map completed so far, and while movement is a factor here, another important reason was stealth. Being able to completely avoid mobs near some of the Vistas, PoIs, and skill challenge (now called Hero challenge) commune locations greatly helped in the speed at which I could clear maps. Stealth is probably less of a benefit for hearts, but it might still help with a few.
Great point about the stealth. OP was talking about hearts specifically, but some of those Hero Challenges require clearing Champions, which is nice to be able to stealth around.

It’s almost certainly for economic reasons, how many people would dump badges into exotic gear and salvage it if they could?
Or try to forge precursers with it, etc.
But you can do this with dungeon token gear is my biggest problem with it. I feel like if you were to spend X hours in WvW and X hours in dungeons, that you would get enough dungeon tokens to buy exotic items faster than you would with equivalent badges. If not, then they would be fairly close.
I have no numbers on this, merely speculation, so no sense throwing facts at me.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I’m thinking about buying the big expansion pack that comes with 4000 gems, but I’ve also thought at times about simply buying gems to purchase things off of the market (bank tab expansions and whatnot).
Thus far, I’ve earned almost all of my gems from gold and in-game means. I’ve bought a good mining pick, logging axe, and a character slot expansion. It seems as though “gem” farming is what keeps me coming back to guild wars 2, mostly because it gives me something to work towards. I already have some ascended armor and trinkets. I have exotics for everything else.
So, if I go and buy a bunch of gems with real world money, I’m not sure what else I would work towards. I’ve done world completion (on my ever allusive journey towards a legendary weapon). PvP isn’t really my thing, though I might try some more WvW in the future.
What do you think? Will buying a bunch of gems ruin the game for someone like me? Or am I just not aware of other aspects of the game?
I have no qualms with buying gems if you can afford it. Then again, my enjoyment of the game isn’t based on farming gold to convert to gems, so it’s hard to say.
It also depends on what you consider a “bunch” of gems. To me, spending $10 every other month on gems is no big deal. I use the gems to buy any cool skin I happen to want and then the rest convert to gold.
In the 3 years I’ve been playing I’ve probably gotten at least 500g from converting my leftover gems into gold.
My single biggest purchase of gems was of course the ultimate expansion that came with 4000 gems. I bought bank expansions, some infinite tools, an outfit, and the rest I converted to gold to finish off the T6 mats and lodestones I needed for crafting Meteorlogicus.
Left me with about 84g to my name. Haven’t bought gems since and I’m back up to 400g or so. I’m a semi-serious TP flipper though (2-3hrs/week TPing). It’s nice finally getting back to larger numbers so I can purchase more things to flip.
TL:DR if you have the money to spare, who cares. If it means you might not be able to eat or pay bills that month, then definitely do not do it.

I just hope Anet has enough sense to make wings and the spinal blades skins for gliding if u own them. Awful excecution if you’re falling down a cliff with wings then your wings disappear and a glider pops out lol.
The blade skins would be the worst gliders I could ever imagine lol. Would be like those old-timey videos where a guy is riding a bicycle off a cliff with flapping cardboard wings and feathers taped to it.

Interesting. I just have one character designated as my birthday booster user (WvW alt), and use Celebration boosters on whoever.

You might be mad but he’s right. 8/10 rangers in my parties end up ruining things. Not even worth the risk.
Pretty lame of you, actually. My go to alt is a Ranger. I pride myself on never using the knockback skill (unless its against a wall and won’t move them), and to keep my pet on passive as much as humanly possible.
It’s a shame you kick potentially awesome rangers to replace with a potentially terrible player that drags you down just because they are playing a class you “want”. I’ve played with some terrible eles, warriors, guards, thieves, etc. that I would have gladly replaced with a competent ranger.
But, I suppose it’s your right to kick whomever you want if it’s your LFG.

It has far less to do with DPS and more to do with speed. Thief is a good mix of both.

3. The game is designed to be fair for all players no matter how you play… NO it’s not… Ascended gear, legendaries, food utilities, gear stats and more are only attainable through PvE and Living Stoy.
Wait…so you’re saying that those crafting stations in WvW can’t be used to make Ascended gear or food utilities or gear with the stats I want? Guess I’ve been playing wrong.
And I guess the money I collect from WvW can’t be used to purchase a Legendary weapon?
TIL
Outside of fractal skins, teq/TT skins, and Living Story items, what can’t a WvW/PvP player get? Or are those the only items that you’ve ever wanted?
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
QFT.
This game doesn’t take long to finish. After that it’s purely Grind Wars 2 outside PvP.
So out of curiosity, can you name one MMO that doesn’t have grind? Better yet, can you name one MMO that someone hasn’t been able to “finish” within a month?
Always confuses me when people try to make it seem like GW2 is somehow unique with regards to end-game content being repetitive once you’ve completed it all. Yea, no kitten, that’s how this genre works.
At least with GW2 when a new expansion comes out I don’t have to re-grind for gear because the current gear I grinded months for is now obsolete.
The only grind in GW2 is an optional gold grind because gold buys happiness. If you are cool being and looking broke, then there isn’t even a gold grind. You can complete everything in this game without having to grind, you just might not look fashionable.

I saw that I had made a comment on this 15 days ago and my comment has nothing to do with the OP lol. Weird merging going on.

Supply and demand. As long as there are players willing to pay for paths or FotM (Really???)
FoTM has actually become quite popular to buy.
For one, if your reward level is low you can keep buying spots for the final boss on levels higher than you to get your reward level up. You can do this all the way up to 50. Secondly, once you have a high reward level, you can skip an hour of “work” to get to final boss and reap the rewards (potentially fractal skins, ascended armor/weapons, etc.).
IMO I find buying fractal bosses to be far more rewarding than buying an Arah path.
I’ve never purchased a path on either, mind you, I can just see the appeal.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
However, I completely agree that a lot of folks are impulse buyers. If you leave the same stuff up in the store all the time, people are likely to think, “eh, I can get that any time.” If we know that things have a limited availability, then we tend to be likely to buy “just in case.”
This is the exact reason. Personally there are a number of skins on the gem store that I like, but that are also permanently up there. I don’t have an immediate use for them, but I know if there ever comes a time when I think I might want it I can buy it later. They pretty much lost that purchase, who knows when or if I decide that now is the right time to get that skin. Heck I may even forget about it.
When a skin is up for only 24hrs it forces you to make the decision about whether you think you might use it or if you would never use it. For the wings specifically, most people feel they might want to use it at some point and don’t want to miss out on it and regret it later.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
So you would like to kill the only meta-viable thief available because you had someone backstab you for “INSANE” amounts of damage?
Please, reconsider your post after playing a thief extensively for yourself. Why do you think all thieves you see are rabbit holed into using remove condi on stealth? Why do you think it’s okay to not be able to kill a diamond ele but you deserve the right to remove the only survival option for thieves? Is this a game of morals? are thieves supposed to do ‘good deeds’ and not stealth as much?
I have no idea what your point is on this topic. Please don’t take out your frustrations on a forum post saying ‘nerf xyz, I can’t deal with it’.
I’d re-read his post, he clearly states he has no problem with the burst damage, but rather the ability for them to be able to do giant burst damage in addition to their godmode stealth healing/condi removal.
I don’t care either way about the burst, in my mind thieves are assassins. If you are wandering around in WvW alone, you open yourself up to being “assassinated”. That’s their entire play-style.
What I personally dislike about the build OP is talking about is that it removes the risk vs. reward. You wanna do devastating burst damage? No problem, but if you fail for whatever reason you should pretty much be SOL, or at least at an extreme disadvantage. You shouldn’t be able to go “whoops, missed my skills haha, let me just disappear and try again.” Thieves in this game are sadly very low risk very high reward.
Every other class in the game, if you miss your skill rotations or simply don’t land some, you pretty much don’t recover.
But that’s why I solo roam with a Guardian, so I don’t have to deal with all of that.

Also for the other side I can join ur party when its 4/5 and leave to make the lfg go off until I get lfg blocked for to many joins…and usle I would pay for runs but most Arah runs are threw glitches in programing to kill bosses by there own skills.
I do the same for fractal runs that only want like full zerk
Are you saying that you join full zerk groups in LFG and then leave specifically to take the listing off of the LFG list so that they have to re-list it?
Why would you do that? That serves no purpose but to troll that group, which is certainly harassment.
You are within your rights to not join a zerk group if you feel strongly against that meta, but you really need to just create your own group or simply not join theirs. You should not troll them by joining and leaving to remove their LFG.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I personally see no issue. There isn’t a lot of actual “achievement” that they are buying, so that’s not a strong enough argument against it. The dungeon title is the only thing, and typically people do all paths except for a handful of the Arah ones. Beyond that, skipping to boss in fractals doesn’t get you any achievements.
In my opinion, the “achievements” being purchased with paid dungeon paths pales in comparison to what you can “achieve” by having a Mesmer port you to the end of JPs.
