I don't like crafting...

I’m guessing you didn’t read the thread. I’d love a crack at higher level dungeons/raids, but I don’t want to craft in order to get there.

You are absolutely correct. Crafting is a huge part of the game. This is the whole point of my thread. It shouldn’t be.

Well, right now fractals is what will net you Ascended gear without crafting. You just need Exotic. As you level in in fractal reward levels you will undoubtedly get Ascended rings. Infuse that ring with a 5AR infusion and now you have access to level 10-20 (for the most part). Next ring you get, another +5. Can’t remember if you can buy accessories with relics since I use commendations, but then focus on getting guild commendations or save up laurels or something to get the other trinkets you need. +5 those. With +25 AR you can do up to FoTM30. At that point start saving relics to get your Ascended backpiece, if you don’t already have one. At 30 you will start seeing Ascended gear drops. Just keep getting those fractals in each day and eventually you will get a set.

Will take awhile, but as you said, you are less concerned about ease and time and simply being able to get Ascended without crafting.

As others have definitely pointed out, it is far faster and easier to do it with crafting.

It’s not bad at all, and honestly the daily timer on the Ascended mats is only an issue if you already have all of the other mats you need and you’re just waiting. And honestly, in a real pinch, if you have friends or a guild, people are willing to donate their daily mat to you. I do it all the time. Just send me the mats, I’ll craft the Damask or whatever, and send it back to you. Piece of cake.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

What is going on? Why is GW2 so boring?

I have a level 9 sylvari and all I can say is this game is INCREDIBLY, INCREDIBLY, INCREDIBLY, INCREDIBLY EASY and BORING!

This is all anyone needs to read. The game isn’t supposed to be hard when you’re barely out of a starter zone meant to teach people new to these games.

Except this mind-numbingly easy content is the first thing players like the OP see. The game doesn’t teach you anything except how to spam 1. Oh sure, it shows you how to dodge, but you really don’t need to even do it until much later levels and even then…

Regardless, I think OP has a valid point about being bored so early in the game. In fact, I’ve seen quite a number of similar complaints in the Plains of Ashford recently, on an alt Charr I’m leveling. If a game’s content isn’t engaging a person in the early game, why would they stick around? Do you continue watching a boring movie after 30 minutes? I don’t.

How is this different than any other game, though? I can’t think of one MMO that I didn’t think was head-bashingly easy until much later into the game.

Most people, when starting a new MMO, focus less on how easy the beginning starter areas are and more on the lore, environment, whether or not they like the combat style, cosmetics, etc.

It’s definitely odd for someone to start a brand new MMO and then complain at how easy it is. Of course its easy! They are all easy in the beginning, which translates into boring for the OP.

I know you we are talking about people not reading LFG, but if the other 4 players were experienced L80 zerk players, you should have been able to bring a level 35 naked Thief and still not wiped…

Sounds like the other zerk players in the group should practice more in soldier’s gear or something.

I have duo-ed and trio-ed AC with PUGS as well, If you run it well with 2 or 3 people you can kill everything without suffering any damage, only Kohler can be a bit tricky.

p1 might be a bit more challenging (1st scepter room) but p2 and 3 are relatively easy…

DPS was very low for zerks. People were ~ 4.5k AP…. avg. thief was 2.5k

So we are in agreement then. Bad group in general, thief just didn’t help any.

Reason for having a listing fee in TP?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Also discourages people from listing an item, pulling it down, listing it, pulling it down, listing it, etc, when you know you will be paying for each listing.

For the most part, on high value items, it eliminates price wars between two people. Sure it may happen once, maybe twice, but if someone repeatedly keeps pulling their listing down to reduce the price by a copper each time they are under cut, they are only eating their profit margins and often end up simply losing money on the item.

Unless you are hardcore WvW roamer and a constant build tweaker, its not that big of an advantage….

So, you’d agree that at least WvW players do have a need of it, and should have their own path to obtaining that gear?

They have a path to obtaining it, its called raiding. Do raids or don’t get the gear. They don’t “need” anything.

Well, they need it more than raiders at least. Which don’t need it at all.

This remains to be seen. For all we know each raid path will have encounters that require different stat setups. Heck maybe even within the first raid path there will be different bosses that require different stat setups to complete. In these scenarios, raiders would need to be able to swap gear stats far more than anyone else in the game.

Legendary items don’t lend themselves well to min/maxing.

Like ghost, my plan is to use versatile runes that are decent in all situations, just not really the best in anything particular. If I want to min/max I will make a specific set for that for whatever specific content I am planning to min/max.

I fully agree that the gear one uses doesn’t determine if one can speed clear or not. It’s why the true speed clear groups who intend to PUG don’t always kick players who they see aren’t doing max DPS. Because they know that it’s not the gear that makes the speed clear.

And he doesn’t prove anything to the players that matter: the ones he lies to. Because he lied to them. They think he’s wearing zerk gear.

Well, he proves it to himself I guess lol. Maybe after the run he dramatically unveils he’s been wearing Cleric’s gear all along!

And the final reveal? “Oh, we thought you were just bad, but now we know your gear is bad instead. No wonder that was 10 minutes slower than usual.”

And yes, people who join anybody welcome groups and then harass people about running a specific thing should be banned. It is downright rude and a blatant disrespect for the LFG system. So get over yourself and stop ruining runs for people.

If they were 10min behind on a speedrun, they would have figured something was up long before the end of the run. Someone would have likely started watching skill rotations of each player to see who the weak link was (unless they are the weak link, dun dun duuunnnnn). It’s very easy to tell who isn’t pulling their weight if you watch each player. Which should only be done in the strictest of speedruns, when clear expectations were established in the LFG.

I don’t think anyone was suggesting that people should be harassed in “anybody welcome” groups. I’ve never heard of people doing that in general. That’s a quick way to get booted, that’s for sure. My rule is, if I say “all welcome, meta not required, relaxed run”, then you can do whatever the heck you want. Usually it attracts experienced, skilled players who are like-minded in our dislike of elitists, but sometimes it attracts some BAD players. Worst case scenario after a ton of wipes, I will gracefully bow out and move on. I’d rather kick myself out than someone else in an all welcome group.

Raids typically are the pinnacle of coordinated group efforts where [tanks and healers have] an exact role to play, and needs to play that role near perfect for the instance to go well.

FTFY

As a raid healer, I’m well aware at how important my and my tank’s jobs were. The DPS, though? Yea no, that was mashing your damage keys as fast as possible on whatever symbol/target you are told to mash your keys at.

You may have to step out of an AoE circle or something every now and then, but nothing harder than anything GW2 currently has to offer.

I have a feeling GW2 raids will be more difficult than a typical raid. I hope so anyway. Maybe two groups of 4 have to simultaneously fight two separate bosses while two other people have to jump through some kind of elaborate puzzle while timed in order to deactivate something. GW2 just offers so much more possibility to display skill.

You know, versus staring at HP bars/cooldowns and then moving when the raid leader says to move.

Looks like it is about 90% F2P. You can do most things on a free account.

I was taken back by it at first, but then read all of the restrictions. I’m actually OK with it. They basically set it up so that if you like the game you will definitely want to spend the money to unlock the full version, but if you are on the fence you can play enough of the main game to decide for yourself.

Only being able to whisper people that have you on their Friends list and not being able to use /map is a huge obstacle for gold sellers/spammers.

What we may end up seeing is a bunch of bots/spammers simply using /say for spam now. Setting up shop somewhere and spamming it. It would almost definitely be limited to starter zones (which isn’t too great for new player impression sadly), since you can’t leave starter zones until you hit 15.

You are part of the problem. They notice that you don’t have the right gear. And since they’re in the middle of the dungeon when they discover you lied to them about what you were wearing they decide it’s more hassle than it’s worth to kick you and get someone new.

You are the reason players that would not mind one non-meta in their group if they don’t lie about it when they accidentally join their group decide to just stop PUG’ing. Because they are tired of being lied to by players too inconsiderate to tell the truth.

You’re honestly worse than the jerk elites that join PHIW groups and try to take over. At least they’re honest in their intent. You’re not. To me, there’s nothing worse than a liar. And you can’t honestly tell me you aren’t lying. Because you know exactly what they mean by ping your gear and food. They mean the gear that you are wearing and the food you plan on actually using.

While I disagree with lying, I believe the point he’s trying to make is that zerk meta isn’t a requirement to speedrun. So much so that he can join a speedrun group with non-meta gear, ping meta gear so they believe he’s meta, and then they complete the content quickly without anyone even noticing. I mean, if they were speedrunning and finished the dungeon in a fast enough time not to notice he wasn’t in zerk gear, then why even have the requirement?

Speedrunners are out for speed clearing. The only reason gear even comes into play is the idea that only zerk can speed clear. Which is false. If you are going for record clears, then sure I could see the zerk hard requirement. At that point you are literally min/maxing for fastest clear possible. But if your idea of a speed clear, depending on the path of course, is 7-12min per path, then you really don’t need an entire team of zerk to accomplish this. Which I think was the point he was trying to prove.

That said, it is kind of lame to lie about your gear simply out of principle. I mean if you have zerk gear and food on you, why the heck not just equip it for that run?

I feel crafting in Guild Wars 2 is nothing but a chore and a massive time sink/grind wall barring actually interesting content (combat in end game).

If you can give me some measure of assurance that I will be able to better loot ascended level gear, I will buy Heart of Thorns.

Raiding will drop legendary armor precursors which you can then craft to make BiS armor with adjustable stats. Beyond that high level fractals have given me a full set of Ascended armor so far (and then some).

Incresed level cap by the back door

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Draknar.5748

Draknar.5748

Ignoring the price of HoT and the fact that F2P accounts can now lvl to 80 and go anywhere (both of which I find insulting) I have a serious question with respect to the level cap.

lvl 80 is still “maximum” however it seems clear to me now that masteries are the new “maximum” and if your char does not have them (or cannot because you are F2P/have not bought HoT) then you are not done yet in terms of “getting your char to maximum”.

GW1 never raised the level cap during expansions, your older lvl 20 chars never became “underpowered” because the “maximum” stayed at lvl 20. Sure extra char classes and content was added but what you had was not de-valued.

I think ANet are being sneeky and de-valuing existing chars/accounts in order to force people to buy HoT, masteries are being sold as new-content when infact they are the new level 80.

Thoughts? (keep comments on-topic or take your worthless troll-opinion elsewhere :p)

You aren’t wrong. The masteries are new things that characters can work on at 80 to “progress” your character. I think you’re wrong about the ‘increased level cap’ comparison. None of those masteries make you any stronger as far as I know. In most cases they apply to HoT exclusive content, meaning if you don’t have HoT, then the masteries do you no good anyway.

I am curious why you think this is a bad thing? They’ve never claimed there would be no additional progression, they’ve been touting horizontal progression from the start, which is what this is.

PS: pre-emptively calling out people’s ‘worthless troll opinions’ sounds a bit trolly in and of itself.

No the best part of GW2 was no trinity/no gear treadmill. Not no content exclusive gear.

But 10 people is not a large guild. Not by any stretch of the imagination. You will also be able to get PUG together for it, much like dungeons currently. Individuals are not left out. There is no mention to GEAR.
In FOTM, AR is required in order to go up with fractal difficulty.
What about raids?
New tiers of gear?
Need of legendaries/ascended for AR or stats boost?

I feel that just “skill, strategy and coordination” is something rarely seen in MMOs.
And the same will be here.

One i heard there is a refund for money or the game from people who bought it in early 2015 to now .. I bought the game throw G2a idk where my money will be refunded.. That’s if it will be refunded .

Two .. Me and now my friends will be downloading the game again .. but we all reached levle 20 and got bored last time .. we hate the arena pvp we all love open world rewarding pvps .. so can any one explain PvP types here like if there is also guild wars ?

Three PvE till level 20 i find it extremely boring and complicated . it’s fun to wander around and adventure the world .. but we all wanna rush for PvP .. and get fashions we get lost on what we should do to level up fast since there is no certain questing system so we don’t know what to do most of time but wander around.

Four I wanna play a class for PvP purposes .. which just summon things to fight with me .. Mesmer is fine but it’s defenses is dead and it’s extremely low in mobility .. and i love thief but i hate switching between weapons a dozen times .. i want a class that summons any thing to fight by my side and same thing a good mobility thati don’t have to switch a billion weapnos to be able to make all uses of my class.

There is no open world PvP if that’s what you are hoping to see as you level up. If you don’t like the structured PvP (the capture and hold type game), then WvW is your only option for PvP really. It’s like being in a regular map but with 3 servers vying for control.

I’m not sure what you mean by switching a billion weapons. You can only swap between two weapons…

If you are hoping to be a good PvPer and never switch weapons, then you may want to prepare yourself for simply being a mediocre PvPer. You’ll be able to kill PvEers who wander into WvW for dailies, but that’s about it.

Thief is pretty much a go to for WvW roaming ganksquads. If you have friends: a couple thieves and an ele or necro can be a devastating group.

My 3 year anniversary in this game is coming up, and I realize I have nothing to show for it. My AP is barely at 5k, I have yet to find a precursor (when 2 friends of mine who started the game less than a year ago have both found at least one without even going through the Mystic toilet – something I’ve dumped more than 500 gold into), have no legendary items, my guilds are dead and dying due to the game being so stale, and I have less than 10g in my wallet.

I’m not a super hardcore player, but I play this game a good amount – and it never feels like I’m getting anywhere in this game. I bought the expansion yesterday, and I feel kind of excited for it, but I also have this bad feeling it won’t really change anything.

20hrs for 5g in SW? That’s….wrong.

Spending literally 45min doing AC paths 1-3 will net you 5g.

250 ectos is easy. They are abundant, and can be made very easily with world boss farming (guaranteed Rares). This isn’t one you should really have a problem with. It will come in time as you work towards the other requirements.

250 t6 mats, this is almost always the slowdown, that and lodestones. 250 is NOT easy to come by through normal play. Luckily they give you plenty of laurels that can be used for T6 mats, and you can farm gold easily for them so there’s a work around. When you hit 250 of one of the particular mats, just sell any additionals to put towards purchase of the ones you don’t have.

If you aren’t a fan of SW but are serious about making money, then speedrun dungeon paths may be your best bet. Not sure what your play hours available are, but if you happen to have 4-5hrs each day, you can easily knock out 13-15 dungeon paths with a competent group. Personally I don’t have that kind of time to play, but you threw out 20hrs for 5g in SW so I’m imagining you have time on your side.

That’s 25g/day simply doing dungeons, not including drops, which you can of course salvage to sell and/or get ectos. Plus you can use dungeon tokens to get gear to salvage as well. So let’s say 35g/day estimated, running dungeons (or 245g/week if you play 7 days).

On top of that, if you have Ascended crafting abilities, make and sell Bolts of Damask. It’s a guaranteed 3g profit (1.5g-4g profit range depending on Silk and Linen prices to be honest) for spending 7min standing at a crafting station.

Then of course you have the option (if you have a number of alts not doing anything), of parking alts at rich platinum nodes and/or JP chests for easy cash (15-20s per day per character on the nodes for 10secs of work a piece).

Finally you have the TP and the buying low/selling high system. If you put the time and effort into getting organized, setting up spreadsheets, and researching items, you will find this is by far the best way to make money. It’s also very satisfying when it finally clicks and you have a good system. You literally never have to worry about money again. And at that point, all of the extra money you get doing dungeons or fractals or anything for fun is simply extra money.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

I specifically left WoW because of raid grind. I’m not against raids in general, but GW2 needs to put their spin on it for it to be fun. Raids the way the used to be are simply not fun anymore. They were fun ten years ago when they were a novel concept.

What I’d like to see are longer than usual dungeons (not ones that take a week to complete, maybe 3 hours), that can be entered with 5 people up to 20 people, with it scaling properly depending on number of players. That would make me happy.

Paying for content?

in Living World

LS1 was free and was as advertised. People that simply didn’t play during LS1 were up in arms that they missed content simply because they “weren’t playing the game”.

To continue with trying to create a living story, they brought LS2, which was free if you played it while it was current. Just like LS1. But unlike LS1, they decided to address the issue of people who aren’t actively playing their game missing out on Living Story content, so they made the second season playable even though it was no longer a “living” event, but at the cost of gems (or gold if you look at it that way—which you should).

That way, players have incentive to actually play their game while the Living Story is going on (unlocked for free by simply logging in), and also allows people who missed it to play, but with a slight “penalty” for not playing while it was live. An alternative, of course, was to make it so you couldn’t replay it, just like LS1, which I also would have supported.

I love the people that think come HoT that all current classes are forced into these Elite specs. Your character will not change unless you want it to. If you don’t like Tempest, then don’t slot that specialization. If you only like some of the abilities of Tempest, then slot it during specific situations when that could be useful. Other than that, continue to play as normal.

Passives and other things

Have at it everyone make a list of things in game that absolutely take no brains or skill to use or are absolutely broken in current state. Like some classes having passives that cause burning whenever you attack them or block hits without having to do anything besides the toon standing with its thumb up its rear. Or the take no damage for so many seconds skills and traits that can be stacked for lengthy periods of time.

This sounds like the ramblings of someone that keeps getting wrecked in WvW roaming or sPvP.

If you know a class can go invuln for X seconds, maybe don’t blow all your burst on them until they use it? You will find the usefulness of invulnerability decreases dramatically if you use it and the enemy doesn’t attack you…

1) A lot of people don’t love WvW, and don’t want to feel forced to do it for map completion—I had no problem with it personally, I like WvW. It was Anet giving in to crybabies, but those babies are happy now and I’m relatively unaffected, so who cares.

2) A large majority of players never completed their story because it required a group for the last mission. And like most story dungeons, once someone completes the story mode, odds are they never do it again—makes it harder to find a group to finish something you’ve been doing solo literally the entire time.

3) Most bosses were beatable in “minutes”. 2-3 minutes is a long time to be beating on something in a 5man group. Time it out, it’s longer than you’d think. That and the longer content lingers unchanged, the better the playerbase gets at completing it. People are better geared and know how to complete dungeons and bosses easily. We’ve had years to practice.

4) Don’t WvW nearly often enough to have an opinion. But it is odd you want to remove trebs because some people sit on it for 30-50min, and in your mind they would have more fun doing something else. Have you considered that person may very well be having fun?

5) Wholeheartedly agree.

I’ve lost more money in the forge than I care to admit trying to get Dusk. For the most part I made back 40% or so of that money back selling the exotics that I did get, but still no Dusk.

Ultimately I saved up money to outright buy it on the TP. That is hands-down your only guaranteed method to get it.

So you can either bang your head against a wall waiting for a drop, waste potentially hundreds of gold in the forge with no result, or save up and get it guaranteed.

Fantastic question!

On the surface though, how would anyone know if you were zerker or not when you join in the first place?

That said, when I post “all welcome” or “meta not required” it means just that. It’s not required. I don’t care what gear you’re in. If it’s meta, that’s fine, just don’t bring the elitist attitude with you. Don’t start questioning people’s builds. Don’t start criticizing people unprovoked. I just want a relaxed run where everyone has a good time. Not one where every mistake is scrutinized by the prozerk super speedrun elite squad.

What are you talking about? I see people in the white wings all the time.

In general when a new skin like that comes out, everyone gets it, everyone wears it, and everyone realizes how lame it is to have everyone in the same skin and then most stop using them (this is an argument for exclusive skins from challenging content—but that’s a different topic). People like cool looking skins, that’s a given, but most people don’t like when everyone else has it too. It’s like showing up to a party and someone there has the same shirt on you do, and then you keep walking and see 4 or 5 more people with the same shirt on you do. Odds are you’d go and change your shirt or never wear that shirt again.

Rant about gemstore selling strategy

Sounds like they are marketing their items perfectly. It doesn’t matter if they discount stuff now or later or bundle things now or later or if things are a better deal later on than now. Any store can do this, GW2’s gemstore is no different.

You need to weigh your options carefully. If you don’t like the idea that something you buy may go no sale later, then don’t buy it period. They can’t take the money out of your wallet. As long as people keep buying stuff, they will continue to do it.

I created my first character the day Gw2 became available after having a collectors edition pre ordered

I was in the 3 day early access when this character was created.. he has not been deleted ever
and yet my account only shows 1,094 total days on reccord

the 3 early access days have been taken off my total playtime for some reason..
has this happened to anyone else? kind of ****ed about it since I gotta wait 3 more days for stuff I should already have

Well, if you were like me, I also started during the early access, but wasn’t able to log in for the first two days because of some glitch, so I’m two days behind. You sure you didn’t have any computer issues during the 3 days?

On fire cause of a sale and feature announcements? Want to know what would make GW2 really “on fire?”

  1. make dungeon, champ farming, world bosses, WvW roaming, and SPvP rewards the same as Silverwastes so people can actually choose what they want to do endgame.

I love the people that claim they want the freedom to choose to do what they want, but are such a slave to the gold per hour ratio that the only way for them to exercise their freedom to choose is to have Anet make all content give the same gold per hour.

If Anet was smart they would just nerf SW to be inline with everything else rather than boost everything else to be inline with SW.

Hey Anet can you nerf Ice Bow yet?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Draknar.5748

Gonna jump in here and ask, who cares?

You don’t need an ele, nor ice bow, to faceroll content, you said it yourself. So ele ice bow #4 makes faceroll content slightly more faceroll, ok, duly noted…

Wait, is your contention that running fractals with a random group of newbies each using random builds is exactly the same as running it with experts using the meta builds? Because I’m no fractals expert by any means (I’m only up to Scale 19 so far), but I already have an easier time in the teens with a group that knows what it’s doing over a low-level group that’s still learning the ropes.

No content in the game, with the possible exception of higher-level fractals, is only beatable with a perfect meta team, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a tremendous difference in speed and difficulty between a meta team and a random PUG., to the point where it pushes non-meta professions and specs out of the game entirely.

I, uh, what? How? All I said was… huh? Fractals? Meta?

To clarify some stuff for you, not even high level fractals require a perfect meta team. Nothing in this game requires a meta team.

If we want to truly compare. I’m saying a pre-made experienced meta team with ice bow, and a pre-made experienced meta team without ice bow is a negligible difference. So much so that it prompts the question: who cares?

A PUG group with icebow and a PUG group without icebow will have similar completion times. You’d be surprised how many people do NOT know how to use icebow #4 properly and completely waste it.

But how the heck did I get roped into talking about meta and fractals, thought we were talking ice bow #4 here.

Gold made in the Silverwastes

Making alts and doing map completion and crafting legendaries to sell for gold is also amazing, takes a bit more time but it’s worth it if you are good at speed running maps.

Yes, if you happen to have tons of T6 mats and lodestones just sittin’ around….

This only works if you already have 3000g+ to invest with. If you have 80g to your name, this is about the worst suggestion you could possibly make.

What are you talking about? I suggest learning about basic economics and playing the market on MMOS before making such a false comment.

Every MMO is the same when it comes to the economy, same as real life. You don’t need 3k g to invest with that’s silly. As you increase your wealth you will see bigger returns of course.

If you read my post you would see I linked a website that gives detailed information on where to farm every material in the game, aka learning the market and researching prices and going out to farm those materials worth the most to sell on the TP will give you your start up cash.

Silverwaste is terrible for pure gold farming.

P.S I can take that 80g and flip into 200+g easy, just have to use your brain a tad bit. I played harder games like Archeage and made thousands of gold using a spreadsheet and playing the market.

lol smh. Playing the TP is my primary source of income. I have spreadsheets galore. All I’m saying is that suggesting someone who wants to make money quickly to make alts to do map completion so you can make legendaries is about the worst advice you can give.

Your comment is like those How to Draw an Owl photos.

Step 1: Start with two circles
Step 2: Draw the rest of the owl.

P.S. I bet I can turn 80g into 200g on the TP faster than you can. Yea I said it.
