Wow since when was 5-10g/hr not good income…
That’s like what dungeon speedrunning was netting you pre-nerf.
Not many people physically farm 1000s of gold. 100s sure, but 1000s? Typically you hit the 1000s mark by using the 100s you farmed to flip on the TP.
But even so, playing just 2hrs/day at 10g/hr is 140g/week. That sounds completely reasonable. And honestly well above the average of what most people make a week.

Thus, for me the best way of earning gold right now is doing fractal 40 with champ skip. There are many parties in lfg, give it a try. 60s minimum comes from selling fractal encryptions (u might want to save them for patch), not counting t5/t6/rare mats that drop and magi/cavalier/soldier exos and rares. I could get around 20 gph when i was really lucky and around 9 when i decided to deposit mats and had no luck with exos.
Wait, what? How does that work exactly? You sell the encryptions you get as rewards? How many do you usually get?
Encryptions sell for 20s on TP (usually) and u get 3 of them. 1 run should be around 3 minutes or less, so 20 runs per hour with a good group. That gives you 12 gold from boxes. Besides that u get a lot of items and rare mats that can sometimes sell well or salvage to ecto + insignia. Apparently, it isn’t easy to keep a good pace with a pug group though so income is fairly less then since time might be up to 5 min. Loading times also are a factor here.
I, uh, I don’t think you realize who you are talking to lol.
Wanze is essentially the forum authority on all things GW2 economy / TP flipping.
I’m saying this seriously, there is no sarcasm here, the dude knows what he’s talking about.

I dont understand that logic… we have craft scribe in the GH, we have a guild bank, all they would need to do is add a BLTC merchant and a banker…. make the scribe crafting area a universal one and its all done.
Agree. It’s so close to having everything, why not add those two last pieces. I think things would be relatively unchanged in major cities.

Recruiting has always been hard for small guilds, now, it’s getting practically impossible because people just want the end rewards that big guilds have, not the growing pains associated with getting there. In short, its just a mess.
Many people actually seek out small guilds because they don’t like the typical large guild culture/environment.
The only thing that made recruiting hard for small guilds was the fact small guilds typically want to stay small. They only want to play with their circle of RL friends or friends from previous games. The new people they recruit aren’t part of their clique so feel left out and seek other guilds.
Running a guild isn’t for everyone. Many people think they can just make a guild with a cool name, blast public chat channels for members and expect to grow and have active players. Typically they will end up with 50 inactive members, or 50 members that do not rep them, completely ignore guild messages, or simply don’t care.
I think for most small guilds it isn’t that recruitment is difficult and thus they don’t have the membership number to accomplish some of this guild stuff, it’s that they don’t want a larger membership and still want to be able to accomplish the guild stuff.
The OP has proven that it is indeed possible, although likely not easy, for even a 2-person guild (which is really a stretch to call a guild) to get a guild hall plus upgrades.
TL:DR – Guild recruitment in GW2 is no harder than any other game. Some people are good at it, some people aren’t.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
It doesn’t need fixing, it just means you take the time, it’s pretty easy when you learn it. It is supposed to be challenging. I would advise if you’re struggling that much, take a mesmer friend
I respectfully disagree that its a “pretty easy when you learn it”. The JP is yes, that’s not the issue. The issue with the diving goggles is that it is 100% a blind jump. I’m a self proclaimed JP pro. Was a SAB trib mode junkie, have done most of the ridiculous SW coins (omg talk about hard, those make every JP look like walking a straight line through a field of daisies).
Getting to the top of the JP isn’t the problem for most people. The problem is that once you get to the top you have to literally jump (walking off seems to be the best chance at success rather than jumping) blindly in the hopes you make it through that perfect spot that won’t kill you on one of the beams coming down. And when you die? You have to WP all the way back and restart.
It takes all of the skill out of jumping. You can’t practice blind jumping. The best you can hope for is to watch videos of people doing it and try to mimic it exactly. I’m certain that isn’t the intent of the diving goggles.
I’m fine with there being a difficult jump that you have to perfect, but you have no way to gauge how you are doing, there’s not enough time to adjust while falling. You either jump in the right spot or 95% you don’t and you have to start over. That’s not skill. Worse yet, what you’re jumping through is a bland “rock” type texture with no reference marks whatsoever. You get back up to the top and you have no idea where you jumped last time that killed you.
That’s the problem with it. Not the JP, it’s the blind leap you have to make with the small window of success coupled with a heavy time commitment for re-attempt (heavy relative to all other JPs). It’s one of few things in GW2 that make me rage.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I love how people look at the requirements and immediately start turning it into what it would cost to buy the mats on the TP, rather than look at it in terms of things you can gather. For free. .
LOL. “free”. Go on, keep believing that.
Obviously with the exception of thermocatalytic reagents and any other craft component that you need to specifically buy from a vendor. But that isn’t the “hundreds of gold” “requirement” that people are complaining about.
So I guess, please tell me, oh cynical person you, what exactly on the list requires gold out of pocket (that isn’t a vendor material you need to specifically buy from a vendor) that someone couldn’t go out and collect over time. I’m honestly curious. The precursors I looked at didn’t have anything that was impossible to obtain outside of TP.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
The only valid point made in this entire thread is that rewards were reduced, which was an odd decision for Anet to make, considering the rewards were never that fantastic to begin with.
Other than that I don’t see how people don’t get how MMOs and expansions work. In every other MMO I’ve played an expansion makes pretty much all of the “vanilla” content irrelevant. Which isn’t even the case in GW2…
So what is this paywall non-sense people are talking about? You bought an MMO, 3 years later they came out with an expansion. If you want to continue on with the story and the new content, you buy the expansion. There’s nothing out of the ordinary here…
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Aside from the bugs, it is AWESOME! No, i am not being sarcastic. All the stuff it requires is easy to farm, and the ascended mats only take a few days to make. I LOVE that this is no longer gated behind a HUGE RNG barrer!
Thank you ANet! You rock!!!
Is this “not being sarcastic” sarcastic? You’re obviously exaggerating as the ascended mat requirement is at the shortest 10 days if you go for something like the pistol that has split requirements of metal and wood. Once you get into things that have single type requirements, it’s 30+ days. Then you consider the hundreds of gold that the ascended mats cost, and you are past the “RNG Barrier” that has always existed: Just buy the weapon from the TP with no additional effort required.
The first part was great. The second part is just a massive gold sink (as you could always farm and just sell those mats) – nothing more. So gamble with the toilet and hope to save/make hundreds of gold; grind hundreds of gold and just buy it; or grind hundreds of gold (or hundreds of gold worth of mats – but still the same as just buying it) with a couple of extra steps along the way. Some people may be cool with that, but I’m not.
Ascended mats don’t cost gold….
You can gather the mats you need yourself from nodes and from salvage. For free.
Mats only cost gold when you absolutely must have your item right now because heaven forbid you take the time and effort to do it yourself.
Pre-HoT everyone had 2 options: 1) Play Mystic Toilet RNG game to hope for your precursor, often spending hundreds if not thousands of gold with no precursor. 2) Save up hundreds and buy precursor.
Post-HoT everyone has 2 options: 1) Painstakingly gather up materials over the course of months to craft it, with very little out of pocket. 2) Save up hundreds and buy precursor.
Make your own choice. Just don’t sit there complaining about the cost of the materials when you have the option of not spending that money if you really don’t want to.

Gasp! Months to gather materials for something?! How horrible!
/s
Considering MMOs are games people play for years, some even over a decade, I think a few months if completely reasonable to gather materials “the old fashioned way” to make something you want, with the added option of being able to buy them outright from the TP if you simply don’t want to spend the time.
I crafted both of my legendaries from scratch, with the exception of the precursors which I painstakingly saved money up for (it actually got me into TP flipping, which I found enjoyable, and now money isn’t really a problem, which is nice). But gathered up all of those T6 mats, lodestones (which I ended up selling all extra T6 mats I didn’t need anymore to put towards the lodestones), ectos, and everything else on my own. It took me two years or so playing casually (10hrs/week).
Why does everything need to be rushed?

Yes you can also do it in Airship (somewhat recent change). It’s one of the greatest QoL changes they ever made for me haha.

I love how people look at the requirements and immediately start turning it into what it would cost to buy the mats on the TP, rather than look at it in terms of things you can gather. For free.
You guys need to stop looking at things in terms of gold. If you have 700g then by all means buy the precursor from TP, no one is stopping you. The point of the “scavenger hunt” / “crafting” of precursors is so that anyone can get them, even if you are poor. Yes it will take longer, and yes you will have to actually make the time gated mats, likely from materials you’ve salvaged/gathered, but it is 100% doable.
If you are impatient, you can still bypass all of it at a cost. If you are patient, you can get the precursor over time with very little out of pocket comparatively.

Whenever I go on the forums, I find so many complaints about all the bad things in this game.
Things like:
• The way of ’’crafting’’ your precursor.
So, why is crafting in quotes? Do you think there’s a more accurate word for it than crafting?
Or do you think being able to craft them is a lie and we’re all hallucinating about it?
I think because it’s mostly Mystic Forge stuff. I would also put craft in quotations when referring to things you put in MF. It’s not quite crafting, but also kind of is, if that makes sense. “Crafting” seems like a fair way to describe it.
It’s also more of a scavenger hunt than it is crafting.

In every single MMO I know the party leader decides. There is no vote kicking and if people don’t like how someone leads the party they just leave. Easy as that.
Not only would that remove many problems, it would also let people build up a reputation for them and their guild that they are a good party leader.
What if you DC and don’t come back. You stay in party as a black silhouette taking a slot. Should people not be able to kick you out to make room for another?
They should add a DC timer of 5min or so. If you do not reconnect in 5min leader is assigned to next person down.

I won’t lie, there may have been a time or two (or dozen) when I have purposely shouted “Retreat!” right before people make a difficult jump. But I swear its only been to guildies, and an innocent bystander here and there.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
It’s absolutely ridiculous people care where other players get experience from. If someone wants to grind mobs for 12 hours straight, that doesn’t affect you at all.
Depends. If people can farm CoF for HoT masteries, many people will be inclined to go there instead resulting in less people in the HoT maps. That does affect me and my enjoyment. This assuming you were referring to HoT masteries.
But you can’t farm CoF for HoT masteries. So…..it doesn’t affect you or your enjoyment.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Sounds like you did not enjoy the base game. Without HoT you don’t have much more than what existed. They revamped some areas like fractals and WvW, but other than that I honestly would say it’s not worth your time. Especially since you didn’t find any of the classes enjoyable. I mean, that alone is enough of a sign that GW2 isn’t for you.

To add onto this, how about cultural default gliders?
The sylvari get plant looking ones.
The asura get techno ones.
The charr get iron/jetpack looking ones.
The humans get a fancy looking traditional glider, maybe a tail on it to make them feel special.
The norn get one that uses animal pelts or something.
Gliders seemed like the perfect opportunity to do culturals.

I usually don’t like people who complain about “play how you want to play”… but seriously though, what happened to “play how you want to play”?
At no point did “play how you want” ever mean “play how you want and make lots of gold”.
You can play the game any way you wish. They vary in their lucrativeness.
There were some good gold farms that have been removed, yes. We can all agree the gold farm was a bit too good, which is why people are upset it is gone. Prior to SW chest farming, only dedicated dungeon speedrunners could make that kind of money in equal periods of time, but of course had a per day cap. Before dungeon gold rewards you had nothing concrete that I can remember. Champ train wasn’t nearly as lucrative kitten chest or dungeon speedruns.
Ultimately I’m unaffected as I’m mostly a TP flipper for cash and only did SW chest runs intermittently.
I just don’t think the “play how you want” manifesto chant applies here. The SW farm can still be done. There were never promises that it would be lucrative.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I’ll go ahead and throw in the typical anti-exclusive items proponent response.
“I’m sorry that you want to be a special little snowflake, but I don’t think it’s fair that I should have to do content I don’t like for an item I want, therefore I should be able to get any item from any content, exclusive or not, by playing HOW I WANT! I only like running CoF p1 over and over, but I should still be able to get the legendary fractal backpiece!!!!”

This thread is saying that the “new” system isn’t a “Legendary Journey” at all. It is the same old system, it’s just that the old currency (gold) is disguised as materials.
And this is the last time in this thread that I’m going to try to explain this.
Yes you can buy some of the materials for gold. Like Deldrimor Ingots and the random lodestones and doubloons. Or you can go in search of those items as drops.
“Legendary Journey” is marketing speak. How would anyone define what “Legendary” meant anyway. It’s subjective. The only thing that was truly promised, that everyone wanted, was a way to get precursors that didn’t involve RNG and that didn’t force you to spend 1000g+ on the TP.
I’ve looked at the requirements for making Spark. There’s nothing on that list that someone couldn’t get on their own. Sure, buying it on the TP is easier and faster, but not a requirement. If someone wanted to make a checklist and go out on a scavenger hunt to get copper doubloons, or a lodestone, or mithril for the deldrimor, they can. There’s nothing stopping them. And the materials requirements are low. 1 of each lodestone? That’s easy. 9 copper doubloons? Easy. 15 deldrimor ingots? Gated, but easy.
It’s a shame that OP’s image of a “legendary journey” did not match up with the marketing hype, but that wasn’t the point of the precursor crafting. It was to address the obvious issue of being able to gather everything you need for a legendary reliably except for a precursor. Now you can get that reliably, no TP needed, unless you want to shortcut. So really, what’s the problem?
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I’m assuming it is a complaint against Halloween ending and being shorter than normal, so they have missed out on the Guard outfit as it was removed before their pay went in.
Ah, that makes so much more sense lol.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I want to point out that people have now shifted to talking about legendary weapon crafting. The same exact requirements that have existed. This thread is about precursor crafting specifically.
I’ve crafted two legendaries. Had to buy both precursors. I’m happy with the new system for getting precursors as now I don’t have to grind for money. Making the legendary is still the same as before I believe, yes (T6 mats, lodestones, etc.)? So what are people even talking about here. Legendary crafting was fine, the only problem was getting the precursor because the only options were RNG or TP.
OP was saying that the precursor crafting still forces you to grind in SW essentially. Which is untrue.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I think he’s saying he can’t afford it? And possibly that his employer doesn’t pay regularly, so we need to watch to see if he gets paid today and then see if it was enough to cover the cost of the outfit?

We need a “Zone” Category for the LFG.
With the new maps looking to organize, holidays, Teq, and even Silverwastes and Dry Top, its a REALLL PAIN to find the right group when you are scrolling down so far to find the right one before it fills up.
Please can we get this category section added?
Have you tried creating your own group for specifically what you want? You complain that the groups fill up faster than you can scroll, so surely you must have considered creating your own group, which would then fill up quickly as well…
If you want to find a for exemple a good Auric Bassin map. You want to join people that taxi in.
Yes you can create a group that ask for a good Auric Bassin map, but almost nobody go through the LFG to taxi people in. Unless you are lucky you may wait for a bit with this method.
And it doesn’t change the fact that Open World need some organization.
At Least Magguma and Central Tyria category.
I agree that a Tyria and Maguuma split would be useful. Dunno why they didn’t think of that.
If there’s a good AB map, for now I just sit with LFG open. Taxis pop up somewhat frequently if there’s a good map, and as taxi groups fill they will pop back up to grab more people until map limit is reached.

So Anet made it so you can get precursors without RNG, it just takes a significant amount of legwork.
The community decides, nope, I don’t want to do all of that legwork, I want my precursor without RNG, and without having to do legwork outside.
Complete utter nonsense.
The community says.. “I still need to grind (Silverwaste) to buy the items I need”. That is something else.
Many people here who complained about the precursor crafting stated it was ok te be hard, it just should not be the same grind.
Then many of those defending say they “Just want it for free”. Pretty much the same argument I have seen for 3 years here on the forum with these types of discussions and it’s a straw-man. You are making your own truth by suggesting they ask for something that in fact they do not ask for.
That does not proof your point because you are dismissing something nobody is saying in the first place.
But yeah you are right.. It would be bad if they make it easy, and Anet also never said it would be easy. So for those who want it to be easy (what is close to nobody.. who complains about the grind) they are wrong.
So there you go, you proven the point to.. well to those wanting is easy. To bad they are not here in this thread.
Nonsense? The OP is saying that he is still forced to buy the item from TP because the requirements to make it are essentially too daunting.
I mean, I haven’t looked at the requirements of every legendary to craft with the masteries, but the one or two I did look at didn’t seem like it forced you to grind. It all seemed like stuff you could go out of your way to get and in different areas.
The only way it devolves into SW chest farming is if the person who wants the item doesn’t want to do the work because they are impatient and what it as quickly as possible. At which point, yea, just SW farm and buy the legendary itself.
This new system is for people who don’t have the money or don’t want to spend the money and would rather go on an epic journey to get it.
Yes there will be stuff you probably don’t want to do. Too bad.

The biggest design mistake is a horizontal progression system that largely rewards skins coupled with the restrictive transmutation system.
Well what else could possibly be rewarded with a horizontal progression system if not skins? Obviously better stats is vertical, so what’s left?

Yes. This game drops so much junk.
I need to spend a portion of my evening simply maintaining all the crap in my inventory.
Now with HoT and the holiday event stacked in the same time frame, I have bags, blues and greens coming out of my eye balls.
I definitely agree we get a ton of loot with lots of bags to open, however spending time every night at the end of a session of playing to clear out all of the loot you got is pretty standard procedure for any RPG. Single player or MMO.
You play a bunch, then you clear out all of the loot you collected. I don’t care how much loot people are getting, it shouldn’t take more than 5min to clean it out.
Open every bag/chest. Salvage every item you can. Deposit collectibles. Consume all luck. Sell junk and runes/sigils to vendor. Bank anything else like BLCs or ascended mats you can’t fit in your collections tab. We’re literally talking minutes here. Definitely under 10. And I have max bag space!

Nah, I’ve been on these forums from practically day 1. I see nothing out of the ordinary. I’d say the worst of it was when Dragonhunter name was announced, and then maybe the first two days of the expansion. But all of that is in line with every other major LS update, or holiday update, or balance change, or really anything that changes in the GW2.
I still love the people on Day 2 of HoT who “quit” because of lack of content. Like seriously, these maps are so ridiculously huge, the story is big and involved, events are everywhere. Don’t even get me started on the map metas and how awesomely difficult they can be.
Some people just don’t like change.
There are a group of regular anti-GW2ers on the forum. They’ve “quit” the game, but spend their free time frequenting the forums to reiterate the same complaints they’ve had over and over. If they see someone new with a similar complaint, that’s like cat nip, they all swarm to add to it. You’ll start recognizing these people. They are also the first ones to call people schills or fanbois or white knights for disagreeing with them.

Is map completion required for Tyria mastery? If not, then what do JP’s have to do with Tyria Masteries?
I believe – and don’t quote me as I’m not sure – that some of the Jumping Puzzle achievements give a mastery point for completing them. I’m pretty sure that to get one Mastery Point you need to get the Dive Master Achievement, which is locked behind some JP’s.
If there’s a mastery point for Dive Master achievement then I hope they made it so you can see which ones you’re missing (I haven’t checked). And one of those is locked behind one of the hardest JPs, the Not So Secret Jumping Puzzle. It’s the actual dive that is stupid difficult to get perfect. And if you fail, omg you start all over. It’s one of 2 dives I’m missing. The other dive? I have no effing clue. I went through each one by one with dulfy, got to the end and was at 36/38. Now to play the guessing game…
That said. They are mastery points. Dive Master would imply mastery. If you want to 100% this game you have to do all of the JPs anyway. I think missing one mastery point will not kill anyone.
I love how some people want to be able to do all content in the game, but without having to do all of the content in the game lol.

The major complaint about precursors was that they were 100% RNG. The solution to it of course was shell out a bunch of money to get it from TP. There were no realistic options to get it otherwise that didn’t involve RNG.
So Anet made it so you can get precursors without RNG, it just takes a significant amount of legwork.
The community decides, nope, I don’t want to do all of that legwork, I want my precursor without RNG, and without having to do legwork outside of my normal comfort zone of only doing <insert specific niche content here>. Thus the option to purchase a precursor or legendary is still there.
The real problem is that people are complaining as though they are forced to purchase it because they are so effing impatient and/or lazy to take the time to craft it that they immediately go to TP (like they would have pre-HoT), and then blame Anet for it.
Seriously guys. They are legendaries. Either suck it up and purchase it, or take the long, epic journey to gather the pieces you need. If I remember, it was always billed as a scavenger hunt, which as far as I can tell, is exactly what we got. Just seems most people look at the list and are like “Ugh, I have to do stuff to get these items? Ehhhh…nevermind…I thought they were just going to hand them out.”

To him, anything requiring jumping from one spot, over a gap, to another spot, is a jumping puzzle.
There are actually a lot of people that feel the way he does.
I’ve yet to come across anything requiring advanced jumping skillz.
Maybe he thinks of gliding as really long jumping, and thus another puzzle.
Personally I love jumping puzzles. Everything about them. I think they should add more elaborate ones, heck even make raids take place while actively having to do tricky jumps.

With core GW2 you had to be logged in when new story chapters were published. If you missed and didn’t log in in a certain time period after new chapter has been published, you had to buy this chapter.
Is this also valid for HOT? If so, how long is this time period when story is free?
As far as I know the HoT story is specific to HoT and is fully unlocked once you purchase the expansion. There is no window to get it done. You either have the expansion, and thus access to the next bit of story, or you don’t.
GW2 core is still the same as it ever was. If you already own the paid version then the chat, trade, guild, and party restrictions do not apply. That stuff is for F2P accounts that are under a certain level.
If you are limited in your play time because of work (like I am), 5-10hrs/week will keep you busy for months and months and months.

As far as I know, you can’t even get ascended equipments from the fractal encryption boxes. You’re probably confusing that w/ the chests. I opened over 5000 and haven’t seen one.
I suppose that’s possible but I could have sworn it was an encryption box. I do also have fractal masteries. I will concede that I’m not 100% positive where I got the rings.
As someone who played FoTM very frequently pre-HoT, I find the new system as rewarding if not more rewarding than pre-HoT.
I think expectations were too high. Did people think running fractals would be the same g/hr as Silverwastes farming? Or speed clearing dungeons? I’m sure they balance things around normal speed players rather than min/maxers who could clear CoF in 8min.

It was really sad, I had to explain to a brand new guildy last night that his experience with his first dungeon was the same as all the other dungeons, skipping past content and just burning down bosses often with cheesy stacking.
I know, right! We try to do guild dungeon runs where we don’t do cheese mechanics. They take longer, sure, but I find it more enjoyable.
Dunno if you considered that, or if you reluctantly perpetuate the stack and skip to get through it as quickly as humanly possible.

The bigger guilds mostly consist of a more younger game audience (under 18), which i have no intention of joining (you can already see why in some of the disrispectfull reactions on this post to the op) .
Zuh? Our guild has 130+ members, typically 40 or so logged in concurrently at peak primetime. Our average age of the guild is around 33 yrs old. I feel that GW2 players in general are older than the typical MMO demographic. I can count on my hand the number of under 18 yr olds I’ve met in the game (not including those that are accompanied by a parent).

We were just talking about this in our guild last night as we were doing the Trek! One of our members was beaten to every point he tried to get to, swearing on voice chat at each occurrence, which was quite funny haha (I took one from him like 30secs before he got there lol).
But at the end of the entire Trek he still got rewarded with the Rares and commendation. So now I don’t know what to think.

For a smaller guild, yes this is harder. It is what it is. Larger guilds can get a lot more input from members to unlock things easier. That’s the incentive to grow your guild.
If people want to only play with their circle of IRL friends and their spouses, then there is a trade-off.
If they want the most out of the guild experience in Guild Wars 2, they need to not treat their guild like a glorified chatroom.

Pretty sure this was fixed. Been highly populated at every event I’ve been to. At least in VB and AB. Haven’t been to the others ones, but maybe that’s the problem? The expac is still new enough that the majority of players haven’t even been to those areas?
Like seriously I’m still trying to finish AB and VB WPs. Haven’t even stepped into the other two zones. I know others like me as well.

No it’s unrewarding because of the absolute abortion of an equipment system Anet used. It has in no way achieved it’s goal of horizontal progression, just stepped vertical progression, with bland items that don’t do anything interesting except look garish.
So you’re simultaneously saying that there is no horizontal progression, just stepped vertical, while saying that the gear does nothing except look garish?
That’s horizontal progression, my friend…..
And to further contradict yourself, you say they items are bland by describing them as garish? Like seriously? LOL
