You can have non-guild members help to capture a hall I believe. So technically they could still capture a guild hall without the help of guild members, yes? Which means they could very well still access guild hall without anyone having HoT?

re: What did you expect that you would be entitled to the achievement because it was available 2 years ago? – Yes, actually. If the JP is available, why should the title not be available? How is someone completing it now, less valid than completing it when it was first out? I’m asking this, and I don’t even do jumping puzzles. Why should achievements no longer exist for content that still does? Why should you have to go and check your achievement screen to make sure an achievement still exists, each time before you attempt it?

I think there is some misinformation here. There was no title for completing the clocktower originally, nor ever. You simply got an achievement for it. The Emissary of the Mad King title was from the entire Halloween event. You had to get 5 achievements I believe to get the title. You could get the title without ever having to complete the clocktower.

The point is to give another option for playstyle. It may work well in some game modes and worse in others. Some people may hate it, some may think its the greatest thing ever.

It’s a toggle that you can bind to a key. If you don’t like it, toggle it off. If you feel the urge to use it, toggle it on.

The point is that it is an option. There really doesn’t need to be any more explanation than that as far as I’m concerned.

Guild System - Why is it this way?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Draknar.5748

Not trying to start a war here but I’d truly like to know why this game allows people to be in numerous guilds, thus contributing nothing to those they are not “representing”? I’ve played maybe over a hundred MMOs and have never seen this. I would like to understand the reasoning for this system.

There is a restriction on people who create guilds, like you can’t dissolve them and make another until so much time passes. Is there a restriction on people leaving and joining another?

I see guilds as something akin to teams in sports. You can’t play on multiple teams, so why multiple guilds? People should take pride in their guild and try to support it. If you aren’t representing, aren’t you really harming the guild by taking up a slot that someone else could use? I’ve seen a lot of posts of people hating on guild leaders because they “hassle” them by asking them to represent.

If I create a guild, all my characters are part of the guild. I think it should be on an account basis for everyone as well. You join a guild, all your alts belong to that guild. If you don’t like a guild, you are free to leave.

I think the current system weakens the guild system. Respond only if you have constructive insight.

Many guilds, mine included, require full representation across all characters. If they have a problem with it then they don’t become members or they are asked to resign.

The only part of the system that weakens the integrity of a guild is the fact they can rep multiple guilds. But that only weakens guilds that don’t require representation. For those that require 100% rep, this system is no different than any other.

I totally respect those that don’t want to rep a guild 100%. That’s their freedom and they are likely looking for a completely different experience than we are. We are looking for people wanting a solid, long-lasting community rather than a chatroom and impromptu LFG channel. You can only accomplish that by having your members represent your guild.

I don’t get why these mobs are giving xp in CoF. They respawn endlessly!
And does it matter if its a FARM or a GRIND? It’s ridiculous that its part of the game.

What do you mean its ridiculous that its part of the game? Pick a game and you can farm something in it to varying effect. It’s not a part of the game but a byproduct of impatient gamers. So long as there is content that yields some kind of progress (be it money, XP, reputation, whatever), people will find the fastest, most efficient way to do it, regardless of how mind numbing it is.

Anet didn’t set up this farm, the players did. They are the ridiculousness, not the game.

Diminishing returns is the only way to combat farming (which honestly I don’t see why people care so much. I rarely farm, and I certainly could give two kittens less if others do it). All this griping is only going to cause some serious DR changes. Then we’ll see some serious griping from the other end of the spectrum.

It’s like a god kitten see-saw. One side happy, other angry. Make changes to make angry people happy, now happy people angry.

I love how people finding a faster way to get masteries through farming a dungeon is now being defined as grind.

The players chose to do that to themselves. Anet didn’t force it on them. The idea was to unlock masteries over the course of time, but good ole GW2 players OMGMUSTHAVEITNAO, so they decided instead of spreading it out over a long period, they would concentrate their efforts into a farm to get it done quickly (right on! more power to you folks!).

2.) Let me understand this: you want us to complete everything in the game to get our Elite spec so we can… sit around in Lion’s Arch? By the time me and any of the other people have our Elite Specs we will have completed ALL of the content of HoT, leaving us to do nothing but play repeat content in the game.

I’m guessing this is your first MMO. If you can name me one MMO on the planet that you can play endlessly without repeating ANY content, then I will eat my hat.

MMO timeline: you get game, you binge play to level cap, you run raids/end-game, you repeat until next expansion, you buy expansion, you binge play to new cap, you run raids/end-game, you repeat until next expansion.

Nowadays if you play 3-4hrs/day, you will have completed all new content in an expansion in a couple of weeks.

Sounds like you want some kind of magical game where you hit level cap and then somehow there is novel content regularly coming out at a pace fast enough that you never repeat content.

If there really existed a fancy guild hall, deep in a jungle, that needed to be claimed from mystical beasts— the group of 4 friends isn’t the group that would be taking it. It would be the group of 50. The group of 4 friends would be taking a log cabin somewhere.

Honestly there should be guild halls based on guild size. A four man guild should only be able to attempt to capture a really small guild hall that is fairly easy to take, while the much larger guilds have access to the cream of the crop ones with giant vines and mordrem knights guarding it.

That stuff was great back then, but the genre has evolved as has the player base.

I think where a lot of MMOs fail is that they try too hard to recapture the nostalgia of previous games, thus ending up as a clone. There’s a reason those games aren’t popular. It’s because its been done. It was great back then, but its old and tired.

The Ascended tier came out 3 months after the game launched, time to quit yer whining and get the gear that’s been top tier since literally 2012. There’s no excuse for it at this point. The gear treadmill complaints were appropriate in 2012, 2013, and possibly early 2014 (for those that really wanted to hang onto the “Anet lied to us all!” battlecry). But it’s almost 2016. I’m totally on board on rewarding the so called hardcore players more, but not at the expense of the larger playerbase.

With the turmoil that will hit the market, a large number of players will see their purchasing power drastically reduced.

Fractals are being changed dramatically to allow for people who don’t have time for 3 mini-dungeons + a boss. I believe when HoT launches you will be able to do individual fractals and still get rewards.

Daily AP Limit

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Draknar.5748

Draknar.5748

The daily takes me about ten minutes. The rewards for that 10 minutes are pretty good. It’s hardly an imposition.

You must have way more luck than I have then…

Take today:
Maw: 2 hours wait
Kessex events: with luck, I might get 4 in 30 minutes
Activity: it’s been ages since I"ve done that, but I do know it was never done within 10 minutes.
Maguuma Wastes miner: costs me money, but can be done fast

Let’s just say, I completely ignore dailies on days like these

I did this same daily in about ~15 min last night.

a) Maw starts at a specific time, coincidentally had a guildie there that could taxi me in when it was about to start. While waiting I did —

b) Daily activity. Crab Toss. Came in with 5min remaining. Can either “AFK” during it, or play. I played and won this time around. 5min

c) Maguuma Wastes miner. Started at the southern WP went West, got lucky I guess, came across 4 nodes in relative close proximity to each other. ~4min

Then Maw was starting, taxi’d over, knocked it out in 4-5min, daily done.

Normally I skip world bosses in general and go for the easy WvW ones like Land Claimer, Master of Ruins, Guard killer, Veteran killer, Big Spender. Go to your enemy borderlands, open up map, go to nearest flag. If nothing close, go to next borderland, open up map look for nearest flag. It’s very rare to not have any sentries available anywhere on a borderland. Doesn’t need to be your server’s borderland. Next easiest is Guard killer. That’s literally going to an enemy camp and killing 5 NPCs, or an enemy tower and killing the archers at the top plus two guys guarding the gate.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being super easy like sub-5min completion, 10 being terribly long, consider not doing, today’s daily rates about a 4, simply because Maw may not be up when you are on and the WvW options aren’t the absolute fastest ones. Also you can’t use your home instance for gathering in the Wastes, so that slows me down.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It also tells some players that they can’t play the endgame, so they should find another game to play.

Then they clearly haven’t played any MMOs in their entire lives. It’s a lesson they were bound to learn at some point. Content typically scales in difficulty. Not everyone will be able to do the really difficult content. The only other option is to make everything easy so everyone can do it without failure. That would lose more people than anything.

The basic assumption is that after leveling 1-80, doing dungeons, maybe some fractals, finishing personal story, living story, jumping puzzles and exploring all of the new zones, that you should have enough experience playing the game to be competent in group content. If you aren’t, then no one can help you. At no point does that mean Anet shouldn’t develop content for people who have gained the skill necessary to complete harder content. We’ve had years to practice with our characters, I don’t even find FoTM50 difficult, I would be pretty upset if the raids were a cake walk.

Coming from other mmo's (suggestions)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Draknar.5748

Typically it goes like this:

- You quit whatever MMO you are currently playing because you got bored with it.

- You try other MMOs to try and replace the game you became bored with, however you consistently look for games that are similar to the game you just left (and were bored with). You want to recapture that nostalgia of when you first started playing that MMO (WoW in this case).

- You find one that is very similar! Hooray! You play it for a month or two, then log in one day, maybe you’re waiting for a tank or healer to join your group so you can start and you just go “ehhh, not feeling it today..” Log off. Then you remember why you quit the first game and realize this has that same stale feeling. So you quit and search for another.

- You find GW2. It’s refreshing, you enjoy yourself. But now start to make suggestions to make the game more like the game or games you literally quit because they bored you after so many years, and for some reason think that’s what GW2 needs to make it more successful, even though GW2 is by far one of the most successful MMOs since WoW.

I disagree with pretty much every point you make, but I will admit mounts would be a great revenue generator, even though I am against mounts in general for GW2.

Ascended Gear to be Required for Raids

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Draknar.5748

I think the thing I love best about this thread is that in the time it’s been running you could have MADE a piece of exotic armor and be well on your way to having a weapon done too if it uses wood. I haven’t bothered with final assembly, but I’ve made all the time gated mats for my gloves while following the drama. Just need helm and shoulders and one more weapon.

6 armor slots and 2-4 weapons. It just NOT that high a level of expectation from most people planning to be playing for a year or more.

What if you will need two, or even three different sets for the entire raid?

…I’ll cheer that they came up with something so inventive and demanding it not only requires some roles-distinction but it requires swapping those roles between bosses?

The question is what does ascended add to that? Just a bit more exclusivity?

Lets be honest, Ascended Armour gives you +20 Primary Stat and +16 to Secondary Stats – this is EXTREMELY unlikely to be the difference between a win and loss. You can very easily use exotic armour with the rune set you desire paired with Ascended Trinkets etc to change build.

People thinking “oh you need Ascended thats such a gear barrier” are not actually looking at what they gain from it… Or being deliberately misleading…

There will always be A META.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Draknar.5748

Draknar.5748

People need to decide if they are meta players or not. The majority of players that do group content are not meta players and do not care what build you are.

Then there are meta players who base all group content around the most optimal builds and class setup. Meta players can play with other meta players, non-meta players can play with non-meta players. There’s nothing wrong with this. It’s how its been in every game with group content.

For example, in WoW (at least back in Vanilla-WoTLK days), meta was effectively 1 tank, 1 healer, 3 DPS. You wanted tank to be a tanky/taunty build, healer to be a healer build, and DPS to be highest DPS build. Was there a chance to get a group together with 3 tanks and 2 DPS, sure I guess you could, but it’s not optimal and it slows you down, and often times cause you to fail.

It’s the same concept here. The only difference in GW2 is that since there are no hard trinity roles, you have a more leeway in terms of not needing the most optimal setup. You don’t need a healer or tank, for example, as everyone can take care of themselves for the most part. But when it comes to optimal raid setup, it may very well be 2 zerk warriors, 4 rabid engies, 3 zerk eles, and a druid or whatever it ends up being.

Do you need to go optimal? Probably not, but people have a right to require an optimal setup if that’s what they want to play. As long as it is clear they only want meta and specific classes, then there’s really no reason to care. Just don’t join their groups, its that simple.

Personally I could care less about optimal, but I also don’t want to end up with a whole team of cleric rangers or something, so even I have standards.

Ah yes, Ascended gear completely changed the, what, ~3 months the game was out while Ascended tier didn’t exist? You guys do know that the Ascended tier was released in like November after the game launched in August, right?

Some of you act like the game was out for years before they added this controversial tier. Sure it started with trinkets, but armor and weapons was the obvious next step.

As far as I’m concerned, they were still within a 90-day grace period to add things like this and not have it ruin the game. Clearly many disagree.

I’m curious as well but maybe he has a valid reason maybe its a money issue, he could be a student, a new parent (kids are expensive), or maybe he’s not satisfied with what the xpac entails.

As I said I am curious but if it’s a personal reason then I can completely understand and he shouldn’t have to explain this to us.

I agree as well. It’s his business honestly. However, that said, I can’t imagine the issue is that he cannot afford it, I mean we’ve known about the xpac for months now. He could literally have put $0.50/day in a jar and have had the money by now. I spend more on these delicious Mountain Dew Kickstarts (with Coconut water) in a month than I’ve spent on the entire GW franchise (I’m not proud of this fact…like at all….I need to re-evaluate my life…).

If it’s a time issue, like a new baby, (which for complete disclosure I found out 2 days ago my wife is pregnant with our first baby!!!!), then perhaps he needs to establish a solid #2 to take the reins while he deals with life.

The F2P is a good addition. The restrictions are perfectly-pitched…..

It’s a personal choice of course, but I dunno ‘bout that. I brought HoT before F2P so I’m kinda neutral, but I wouldn’t waste my time playing this ‘free to play’. Way too many restrictions when you compare them to all the other good free to play games without those restrictions.

It reminds me of Vanguard, a decent enough old style grinder, but the F2P wasn’t really free to play, more like ‘limited to play’.

I think ANet should have called it Free to Try instead of Free to Play as it’s much more like a glorified trial version than it is a Free to Play version. If you consider it a trial version then the restrictions are more understandable.

I feel the term ‘trial version’ implies a limit on time or progression. Not 100% of the time, of course, but for most people I feel it is a fair implication, which isn’t quite accurate as to what their set-up is. You have access to essentially the whole core game, meaning you can level up to max level, get max gear, etc. You really just have limits on chat and trade (for the most part).

I’m just curious why a guild leader of a guild where 99% of its members are getting HoT would not get HoT? Whether or not you agree with the cost and the lack of information, surely its worth the potentially hundreds if not thousands of hours that will be put into it, as well as the value of playing with, you know, your own guild?

What other good F2P MMOs are out there? All of the ones I’ve tried sucked pretty hard after a day or two of playing.

Does that means that new players can play free now while we the ones that bought the game simply lost our bucks? Or is there gonna be some kind of reward for having bought the game previously.

Personally I don’t think I’ve lost the $60 I paid 3 years ago for a game that I’ve played 2000+hrs.

Have you never played a game that went on sale or F2P after you bought it? Do you honestly think you deserve your money back?

I have a feeling that good thieves will find a way to play Daredevil effectively in PvP and then suddenly everyone will be on here talking about how OP thief is and that they are impossible to kill. We shall see.

So yes, a ranger camping in SW with the autoattack for his traps turned on would drop them as soon as they went off cooldown. And because unlike the 1 skill for example you don’t need an enemy targeted to use those AoEs, it’s used for AFK farming.

^^ I’d like to think OP knows this before claiming botting is taking place.

I’ll ask this question, as I do whenever posts like these come up.

So someone “harassed” you. (without saying what was said it’s hard to actually know if you were harassed or you got bent out of shape from something someone said once)
You blocked them. (hopefully, if you didn’t then you have no one to blame but yourself if it continued)
You reported them. (if you didn’t, then what do you expect Anet to do about it.)
You come to the forums to complain nothing was done about it. —> How do you know? Do you think Anet follows up with people who file reports to say, “Oh hi! By the way, that jerk you reported, yea we totally banned him.”

Like seriously, how do you know they didn’t get a one day ban, or a 3 day ban, or a verbal warning from a GM. Do you think just because you got offended by someone that they should be banned from the game permanently and that you should never have to see their player name again for as long as you live?

For all you know, they were reprimanded in some fashion. You do not need to be notified when someone you report is reprimanded just so you can feel some self-satisfaction that you “got them”.

Guild Mission/Favor problem for 1-2 p guilds

One person IS a family of one, and is entitled to all benefits that a family of one would receive. There are other benefits for which you would not be eligible, but those are based on having a number of dependents, to cover those dependents, and has absolutely nothing to do with guilds.

I’m gonna go ahead and say you are outright wrong by defining a single person as a family of one. By definition a family is a group. An individual cannot be defined as a family. The term “family of one” is an oxymoron.

Well if we’re going to go ahead and take credit for things, I’d like to thank Anet for taking my advice in the early development to incorporate a leveling system, I’d also like to thank them for taking my advice on adding dungeons and dungeon paths to the game, as well as fractals, I’ve always felt mini dungeons would be popular, so it was really cool to see they took my advice to add them.

I’m also grateful they took my advice to add an expansion centered around Sylvari and also my advice to allow us to craft precursors. You guys really do listen! Thanks ANET!

I can’t say that I’ve seen it so I don’t know exactly what you mean. I know for Bolt and Sunrise the steps are relatively the same, but the vary in size and intensity, does Meteorlogicus do this? If it doesnt I could see the concern.

I have Twilight, which has mostly identical footfalls to Sunrise, what do you mean when you say vary in size and intensity? Each step is the same, unless you are side stepping or something and you get two “puddles” (or whatever you want to call them) to overlap. As far as I’ve noticed anyway.
