Very popular on ele and engie. I use it on my Ranger in WvW and fotm. Mostly because I kept getting Celestial drops so I figured I’d keep it consistent. Do not regret it, I love my ranger in celestial!

Your point?
Think his point is that everything you do in GW2 is for rewards. If there were no rewards, you wouldn’t do the content you currently “enjoy” either.
There have been no real good reasons why exclusive skins should not be added to challenging content, in my opinion.
They all fall into these categories:
“Because they just shouldn’t!”
“Because then people will feel superior!” (also read: “Because I will feel inferior!”)
“It’s not fair because I want it! But I don’t want to do the requirements so it has to be available to everyone so that I can have it too! If I see someone with a skin I don’t have I would die, I would literally just DIE sobs "
“They just want to be special snowflakes! Screw them!”
Don’t think I’ve missed any.

I’m sorry, but what is fun exactly about taking 45 minutes to clear an 8 minute dungeon?
You are comparing one extreme to another extreme.
A competent non-meta team versus a competent meta team will have close enough completion times for my taste. We’re talking 8min completion versus 12min completion.
Your times are comparing a pre-made speedrun group with a bunch of noob PUGs that have never run the path before.
There is such a thing as being experienced and not meta.

- The GW2 earnings have been falling since release through Living Worlds 1 and 2. Both, which were meant to take the place of expansions, have failed in giving the influx of money expansions bring.
Won’t comment on other points, but for this one, what does that have to do with a doomed game? Your comment basically is “earnings have fallen since the game’s release”. That’s how games work lol. Even WoW earnings have fallen since the game’s release…
The question is whether or not they make enough money on the game to continue to develop it, not what their revenue is relative to release. What are the GW2 operating costs? Does anyone know? I highly doubt the costs to develop GW2 are more than $7mil/month. Highly doubt.
If you want to make strong points, make strong points. That first point isn’t a strong point. If you could show that costs are higher than this reduced revenue, then that’s a very strong point that the game is dying. They won’t spend money on something that doesn’t return on their investment. Otherwise all you’re saying is that they aren’t making as much profit on GW2 as they did when it first came out.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
The particle effects problem has plagued GW2 since the beginning. With 5man it isn’t too terrible, but definitely makes things way harder than it needs to, especially considering stacking is the go to strategy in most scenarios.
Being able to disable the effects would be awesome.

….world bosses are a gear grind raid system? Huh?
I’d like to make a rebuttal but I honestly don’t know what you are trying to say.
I never said open world bosses were any better, I’m just saying people in general are over gear grind raiding systems for the most part.
I’m an ex-raider, I can tell you that you couldn’t pay me to go back to that system. It was awesome while I did it, but it gets old, fast. Going to a new game with that same system may be cool at first, for nostalgia type purposes, but it will get old. Fast.

Will I have to completed the PS before HoT?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Draknar.5748
To access the story portion of HoT you may need to have finished LS2, but you would still have access to all of the zones and every other bit of content. But for all we know you may be able to access all of it regardless.

Than nobody is going to play the new challenging content if it doesn’t have “unique progression/reward system”.
Then those people shouldn’t have wasted ANet’s time asking for challenging content since they clearly don’t actually care about challenging content.
They should have just been honest and said “I want to be a special snowflake, give me exclusive rewards. Stroke my ego.”
Actually, if everyone could be completely honest it’s more like:
“I have to do something beyond stack and mash 1 or mindlessly follow a commander tag to get something? No fair! We want to play how we want! They just want to be special snowflakes! There should be no special snowflakes allowed!”
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
There is clearly such a wide gap in opinions on this that there will never be a compromise.
One side clearly feels that it is reasonable to only have to put effort into content they decide they want to play in order to get any reward they wish.
The other feels it is reasonable to have to put effort into specific, Anet chosen, content (challenging), and only that content, in order to get a specific reward.
Each side finds the other unreasonable.
My position is clear: challenging content should be proportionately rewarded. If Anet chooses to make that reward an exclusive skin, then that skin should stay exclusive to that content, not be available to people who don’t want to put effort into a game mode they happen to dislike (otherwise that reward is no longer proportionate to the challenge, it would be proportionate to the lesser challenge that can also reap that reward). I’m in support of skins, titles, gold, whatever, so long as the difficulty of the challenge is appropriately rewarded.
Clearly I can’t be friends with many of you. But kitten I respect your right to have an opinion.

Open world PVE wouldn’t be as bad if 80-90% of the zones where not scaled down. Boring when you just run around 2-3 shotting everything.
Have you even played in low level zones since the trait system revamp ?
The downscaling now works so that in low zones a level 80 in full exotic has
LESS stats than a newbie in blue or green stuff.Admittedly I have not, only been doing Orr and SW since update, but will give it a shot. However that still doesn’t take away from the 2nd point, in that levels are a unnecessary and redundant feature.
Player progression is pretty standard practice in an MMO. The scaling system in GW2 actually does the opposite; it keeps the lower level zones from becoming unnecessary and redundant. Most other MMOs, once you level past the lower zones, you never go back, because a) you don’t get XP for killing things b) you don’t get loot and c) nothing even attacks you because you are so powerful.

You slap on people’s hand and say wait until it is finished.
But I tried to give you my opinion.
So you believe if they continue to release little bits of information, that come the time the expansion releases, that no one would want to play it because we would all be “full” from all of the partial info releases?
I understand your analogy, but it is a poor comparison. A somewhat better comparison would be them giving you bits of food until you aren’t hungry, but then still not giving you the meal for another day, until you are hungry again, and now you are extra hungry because you’ve already tasted how delicious the samples were before and so you are so excited to eat it.

Entertainment (a game in this case) shouldn’t be about work how?
They clearly didn’t understand that when you said “work” you meant “effort”. In their mind playing a game shouldn’t be work. That’s fair. But to say that people shouldn’t ever have to put effort into a game is just stupid. Go play Candy Crush or something if that’s how they feel.
Most people yield entertainment in MMOs through achieving goals, and those goals almost always involve effort. Astralporing just doesn’t seem to understand this concept.
To them, they should be able to frolic through the fields doing whatever they want and still be able to get all of the same rewards as everyone else.

Charr mesmer? That’s a tough one. Typically mesmers lean towards the frillier side of looks, which looks horrible on a Charr (versus human female for example).

So I guess…I guess I probably shouldn’t have really made this post then.

I have done lvl 50 fractals and I have got better loot for much less effort elsewhere, it is fairly easy if you know what to farm and where. A rare or unique skin is only worthwhile if you like it, otherwise fractal skins are not tradeable.
That hasn’t stopped me doing high level fractals or WvW or any of the other stuff I do in game. I often do stuff because it is challenging, not because it is easy or has valuable loot.
Most people do FoTM50 because of the higher % chance of Ascended gear/fractal skins. If FoTM20 had the exact same % chance for those items as FoTM50, then once people hit FoTM50 for the reward level (for the sake of “beating” fractals), then 95% of those people would strictly do FoTM20s.
There will always be the small minority of people out there that go for the extra challenge (like those that solo Legendary Shaman on FoTM50—watch the vid, its nuts! Or those that go for record completion times.)
They do not represent the norm.
Most people simply expect a fair reward for the effort put in. Like I said, I could care less if it is a skin, a title, weapons, or gold. I just feel it should be proportionate to the difficulty. That’s how pretty much every game works. A skin in itself isn’t valuable, especially if you don’t like the skin, but when you add the fact that its exclusive, the value of that skin goes up substantially, and most people would suffer an ugly skin simply because of exclusivity. For the sake of proving that I personally don’t care about feeling “superior”, I saying to simply have extra gold be the reward instead of an exclusive item.

What about to use your brain? (I mean any player) Yes, it’s new but does it mean that it’s impossible to understand by yourself? To look, to try, to look again, to think in the end ><
Players of GW2 are too lazy and if they can’t do something in one second they came here to whine! I think even Six Gods couldn’t help them.
I get what you’re saying, believe me I do. It was actually really frustrating when people kept asking the same questions. I was in their same boat and I took the time to figure it out, so why can’t they?
Nowadays everyone is used to instant gratification. If they can’t figure something out immediately, then they go directly to the Internet for the answer. In game they just type out their question in /map rather than in Google.
It’s a real problem, honestly, but seriously, tone down the superiority complex, you don’t have to be a kitten about it. You used your brain, we get it.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Challenge for the sake of challenge? why would you even play this game for the sake of challenge?? If I want a challenge, theres a plethora of “challenging” games that are head and shoulders above gw2 in terms of “challenge”
MMORPGs in general , in their nature are NOT played for saying “i’m just doing challenging stuff for the sake of challenge”.
SSC failed because it got boring REAL QUICK and the LOOT was terrible compared to farming champ trains or orr. Thus, DEAD CONTENT. That’s what happened to every freaking thing in PvE leading up to silverwastes. In terms of PvE content, No one even bothers to venture outside silverwastes unless its for a daily dung/frac run. That’s what happens when you have no unique reward system or progression. All maps/content are dead except the 1 thats giving the most gold/hour…
Don’t tell me that, I already knew that it’s all about the loot and perceived feelings of superiority.
Just read the thread from the beginning and see how people complained how it’s not about the loot when I said so. I just waited patiently till you guys admit it to yourselves, so I can post an “aha” post.
So .. “aha”?
It has nothing to do with superiority and everything to do with feeling like you have been proportionately rewarded for the challenge. If you could get the same rewards for far less effort, no one would ever do the harder content.
I guarantee you that if the reward for completing the hardest fractals was 50g and not even an exclusive item we would be happy as clams, because then we’d feel as though our effort was proportionately rewarded. Whatever the reward may be, it should always be proportionately based on the difficulty of the content. An exclusive skin/item is a worthy substitute for gold so you won’t hear us complaining. But I could give a kitten less if anyone knew I completed that content, I just want to be properly rewarded for it, whatever that reward may be.
I have a feeling, though, that if the reward for high level fractals was simply lots of gold, that you guys would still be complaining how it isn’t fair….
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I totally agree with OP. I don’t want rewards to be exclusive. For example
Fractals 50 are too hard and I want those fractal skins. But I can’t afford 4-5 hours a day grinding one fractal at time all the way to 50 then a few hundred more. What I can do is spending 50 mins on ACp1 and 30 mins on CoFp1 once day. Fractal skins is out of my reach. When HoT comes out I will quit the game if I can’t trade maybe 1000 ac and cof tokens combined for each fractal skin. Please don’t be exclusive. When september hits, I can only afford about 30 mins a day on this game due to work. I don’t even know if I can grind out those AC tokens anymore. It takes 30 mins for path 1 or 3. What I can do I roleplay in Queensdale. Please let me earn roleplay tokens every time I type /e followed by a sentence that’s more than 100 characters long and let me exchange 10,000 role play tokens for those fractal skin please! Please!
I can’t tell if you are joking or not. But if not, this is exactly the kind of mentality that I find unreasonable.
They are fractal skins. If you don’t want to or can’t (for some reason) do fractals, then you shouldn’t have access to them. Luckily for you they are making them obtainable with fractal relics or something in HoT, plus you will be able to pick and choose fractals and do 1 at a time. But that still requires running fractals. That throws the whole “I don’t have time” argument out the window. Eventually it will just be “it’s too hard, I want this stuff but I want to be able to do Queensdale events for it, be fair Anet!!!”
I don’t care how many AC paths you run, that is not deserving of an item that takes 1000x more effort to complete.
Why do people think they should be able to get whatever they what however they want without having to work for it (and no, mindlessly running a 10min dungeon path over and over is not “working” for it). That’s such entitlement BS.
I want the dragon PvP finisher, should I be able to simply unlock it by running AC paths too? No way.
I wish people would just learn to deal with the fact that there might be some items that they won’t get with the EZ button.

Since changing skill points to spirit shards I play GW2 less. I’ve got world completion and am working on my legendary. I find I log on to do the Daily, get my spirit shards, try to make Mystic Clovers and log off.
I might try to do Teq and Karka Queen to make some gold but that’s about it. If I was earning a spirit shard every time I levelled 80, I’d play more.
Lots of people have been doing that long before spirit shards existed. I’m pretty much a weekend player these days. Weekdays are exactly what you just described minus mystic clovers.
HoT will solve this, I can’t wait!

Free market is free market, get over it and start farming SW Chests.
If you think the market is free and controlled by supply and demand from players, you are gullible…
Supply is not generated by the players, but the market prices are certainly controlled by player supply and demand, and is definitely a free market.
Anet gives us valueless goods (besides vendor value—which we can consider scrap value here) of which we as players are free to ascribe value. Whether or not Anet controls the supply has nothing to do with the price that players are willing to pay for it.
In the real world, if I decide to paint 10 pieces of art and sell them to an art gallery, I can set any price I want. That art gallery can then turn around and sell them for anything they want as well. They can list it for $50,000 if they want. Maybe they sell, maybe they don’t. That’s up to the purchaser to decide. How is that any different than what’s going on here?
Anet released some stupid dyes that players put stupid high prices on. They are no different than any other dye in terms of scrap value. The high price is because people want them and there is low supply. Just because Anet can randomly add more supply whenever they feel like it doesn’t change the fact it is still a free market controlled by the players. We decided they are worth hundreds of gold, not Anet. We have the choice not to purchase them if we don’t want.
If they were really worth that much the 6-8 dyes would have been sold out by now, not selling 1 every 6 months or so. Which is no doubt someone with tons of money that simply wants to collect all of the dyes.
I would love your explanation as to how the market is not player controlled nor free. I’ll have my tinfoil hat ready.

CoD and AC are pretty much rehashes of existing games. HoT is actual new content with new mechanics and stuff.
Seriously, it hasn’t even been a year and people are complaining. Most pre-releases I’ve gone through had been longer than a year.
Kids these days…
Please, MMORPG companies with much smaller income streams then GW2 used to put out huge expansion with new features and game play element on a year basis. Dark Age of Camelot and Mythic comes to mind first and foremost tiny company used to spit out big expansions on a year basis. For whatever reason A-net and GW2 take forever to do anything. This thing will have been in the works for proably two years by the time its released.
As far as I’m aware, the income stream goes to NCsoft, and Anet works off of a budget from that.

If I wanted a game that locks me out of everything decent just because I dislike raiding content (and spending my time with elitists that tend to feel attracted by that sort of content), I’d go play one of the twenty competing MMOs designed that way.
“…everything decent…” is completely subjective. In this game everyone has access to top tier stat gear. Now what we’re talking about are essentially skins. Now all of a sudden exclusive skins shouldn’t require completion of challenging content because some people don’t want to or simply can’t complete content that is above average difficulty?
That’s simply not fair to people who put the effort into completing that content.
It’s like the Liadri mini / title. I never use the mini or the title, but I worked towards it for my own satisfaction. I know how hard it was to get, and if I see someone with the title or mini it reminds me of the hard work that went into it and they get a bit of respect from me. If you could simply buy that title or mini then it would be as if all my and others’ hard work was wasted.
The difference between me and you is that I couldn’t care less about what items or titles you have. I play the game for fun, not to brag. The desire for “exclusivity” is ultimately bred by some people’s desire to brag and boast by shoving stuff into other people’s faces they don’t have. Otherwise they’d be happy to have nice and shiny things for the sake of having nice and shiny things. It’s like these guys who wear these ugly Rolex watches in real life. They almost always don’t do that because they like the ugly things, they do that to brag with their financial ability to afford one.
For the record, I will never respect braggers or elitists. Quite…the contrary, actually.
I guess you don’t believe in trophies/ribbons/prizes or any kind of recognition for success in a given field IRL then either, as that would essentially be people getting things strictly to brag/impress people in your mind, rather than for their own satisfaction.
Why would anyone strive for excellence if they can achieve the same thing through minimal effort?

If GW2 had the number of people working on it as CoD we would be on GW4 right about now.

You get master points from doing events or some other activities in HoT from what I gather. But you can’t spend those points until you fill up your selected mastery bar (be it gliders, mushrooms, etc). That mastery bar replaces your XP bar once you hit 80, so it’s basically like leveling. The progress of your “XP bar” is specific to whatever mastery you have selected. So if you are at, let’s say, 90% to finishing the first glider mastery, but decide to swap to shrooms, your bar would go back to 0% (or whatever progress you have on shrooms). If you decide to go back to glider, your “XP bar” will go back up to 90%.
Once you fill up the bar, you can spend a mastery point or points (depending on what level it is) on it.
I hope this makes sense. They could have done much better at explaining it, I had to explain it to at least 10 people in game who were thoroughly confused. And for good reason.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
As for this mentality creeping into the real world, you have it exactly backwards… that mentality has existed since the dawn of man.
You got me there, this mentality certainly existed before video games, but it definitely did not exist since the dawn of man. Humans did not start out lazy and entitled.
As far as elitists versus casuals. The problem isn’t that elitists are getting the end rewards and casuals are not. The problem is that a select one or two items will potentially be exclusive to “elitists” (higher skilled players), while the vast, vast majority are attainable by everyone, and for some reason this gets the “casuals’” (normal folk) knickers in a wad.
If casuals can’t have literally every item in the game, then apparently they would quit in droves? I highly doubt it.
They way you and others make it seem is as if all of the best items in the game will only be accessible to top tier PvPers, when right now we’re talking about maybe one item.

You haven’t? Because i saw complains about every single one of them. And if you haven’t noticed, fractal skins for example will be made easier to obtain in HoT.
That’s not what he’s talking about. Non-fractal players were not complaining that fractal players get a chance to get fractal skins. The complaints about fractal skins were that they were RNG and the HoT change is taking the RNG out of it.
All I can say is that everyone has access to get every item already (with exception of those fancy llama minis, SAB upgraded weapons, and some skins that were randomly retired, I’m looking at you Stalwart set).
The problem is that people don’t want to do the content, but still want the reward. It never ceases to amaze me how entitled some people can actually be. You want that new fractal legendary back piece? Go and get it, nothing is stopping you. Don’t simply decide you don’t want to work towards it and then complain it isn’t fair others can get it and not you. You made that choice for yourself, no one made it for you.
What’s worse is that this mentality has creeped into the real world. People don’t want to work for a living, but want to still be able to support themselves and their family.

I guess it depends on what you mean by “only certain people can access.” Since the dawn of MMOs there have been items that only certain people have access to. You want that raid armor? Gotta raid. Want that PvP set? Gotta PvP. Want that cool sword? Gotta do this dungeon or some long quest line.
It’s like people being upset about the fractal legendary back piece and how its not fair that people who do fractals get access to it and they don’t (everyone has access to fractals, which is why them being upset about it makes no sense).
So long as everyone has access to that content they have access to that item.

swiftness is like the old mf system, pigeonholes everyone into using it.
So there should be no skills whatsoever that increases movement speed, ever?
Or you just want base speed to go up, and then on top of that still allow Swiftness so that you can go even faster than that. <—- if we did that then we’d be in the same boat as we are now.

I don’t know about you, but generally I know ahead of time what game mode I’m about to play, so before I hop into WvW, I hit up the bank, swap my gear, then go to WvW. If I’m going to do FoTM, I hit up the bank, swap gear, then go in.
If that sounds like too much trouble for you, then not sure what else I can suggest.
But looking at your photo:
2 Blade Shards, hair kit, 67 +1 Agony infusions, Aetherblade key pieces, Ascended materials, Snowflakes (lol wut why would you even…), 66 black lion chests, 6 of those dungeon keys (completely useless), 52 quartz crystals, 10 Ambrite, some random junk items: all of these should be in your bank (if collection tabs are full on some, stick them in bank or sell them).
I mean 3 slots you have filled with completely worthless leather! Sell it to vendor or delete, they have no value on TP. Salvage those 6 green items.
Your bag space issues are definitely an organization problem more than anything else, I’ve seen far, far worse. Also, spend your fractal relics on larger bags if you haven’t already at this point.

I know it may sounds like a no big deal thing but considering that nearly all our helmets sux, even t3 heavy and light ones due to clipping issues while others removed horns, hairs, doesnt cover neck etc ….could we at least got this thing right?
Due to all that bad looking stuff i wanted to wear blindfolds at least for my future rev but even that thing wont work at all and i wish to see it getting fixed on xpac release espesially for the fact that i am taking about gemstore face.
Why charrs are always getting short end of the stick when it comes to look? It doesnt look good by any means and im actually disappointed by that. Many charr faces i like had this issue which leaves me with subpar ones or no blindfold options.. Not sure where i was supposed to post it so i thought this will be the right place.
Given the choice you made on your Charr, how else would he wear a blindfold? Just imagine he cut holes in the blindfold and that’s how his little nub horns are sticking through.

People are fond of comparing this game to Guild Wars 1. There was very little in Guild Wars 1 that couldn’t be purchased with gold. Arguably, the hardest weapons to attain were the weapons from DOA, or maybe rare stuff like the celestial compass, the bonecage scythe, the frog scepter or the voltaic spear.
All these high end items were available to sell. You didn’t have to be great to get them. You could farm feathers in a low end zone over and over till you could afford to purchase them.
No one in Guild Wars 1 seemed that riled that their rewards weren’t exclusive. It allowed players who wanted challenge to do challenging content and profit. It allowed less intense players to have the rewards.
I think this is the best solution all the way around.
To those who support those hard core rewards, I guarantee you if there are enough rewards casual players can’t get, you won’t have enough players left to continue running the game. Casuals, in my opinion, make a vast percentage of the playerbase. The more you put out of their reach, the more of them you lose.
I agree casuals make a vast percentage of the playerbase. I disagree that enough players would literally quit the game to kill GW2 because a skin exists that they can’t get.
You can’t get the fractal capacitor backpiece without doing tons of fractals. You can’t get Glorious armor without doing PvP. No one seems up in arms about it.
I think adding an item or two to each game mode that is exclusive to that game mode is a good thing, not a bad thing. Not all good players are hardcore, and not all bad players are casual. I consider myself casual and a good player. I would like to be able to casually work towards that legendary fractal back-piece, no matter how long it takes me, and I would hate if someone who doesn’t even do fractals has access to it.

What about the Houses that was implemented in Aion? Sense ncsoft is part of Aion, I had not looked in game to see it in action but I did saw a newws about it back when it was new, anyone who played Aion and got there own home can be added as an option on how it works.
But im sure alot of players across the world forgotten about an MMO called Aion and just brushed it under a carpet like it did not exist.
Played Aion. Also played when they added housing. For those that don’t know, essentially the housing was in an instanced “district”. It was disconnected from any of the maps. You could then get a “house” that was in yet another mini instance and you could invite your friends to it and they would teleport in. If you wanted to visit someone else’s house they had to invite you, or I believe if they were in your friends list you could warp to it.
You could decorate the walls, you could craft furniture, all sorts of stuff. The novelty wore off in 2-3 days and neither I nor my friends visited our houses after that.
Housing sounds great on paper, until you realize it’s kinda meh. You get your house, you decorate it. Then what? Most players would rather hang out with other players and not by themselves in their own private instance.

But I can’t stand there hitting a skill bar
I don’t think you understand GW2’s combat mechanics if you are simply standing there hitting your skill bar.
Unless you are speedrunning dungeons, I guess.

Normally I would agree with everyone, but my phone number lost its privacy years ago. I get telemarketer calls somewhat frequently, so I really don’t care if Anet has it. If I don’t recognize the number, I don’t answer, simple as that.
