after 63 views and counting apparently no one does, I apologize to all those kitten by this but heavy should easy beat light classes regardless of build. OR op profession.

The armor types are essentially meaningless. They give a clear distinction of “classes” in terms of warriors versus “mages”.

Plus it would be really boring if there was only one armor type. Everyone would look very similar.

They likely carried it over from other MMOs because that’s just the way it is and everyone expects warriors/guardians to be in heavy plate armor, and elementalists/necros (“mages”) to be in cloth armor, and rangers/thieves to be in medium armor.

Beyond that, each class can defeat each other class when played correctly.

To have heavy armor classes always beat light armor classes would be absolutely dumb.

If anything, the light armor classes should melt the heavy classes, the heavy classes melt the medium classes, and the medium classes melt the light classes. Or do you expect that whoever is in the heaviest armor should simply be the most powerful?

I do agree with what alot of you are saying, I mean as far as playing this game though I want to like it but it’s just not there anymore. I don’t want to stop playing because (as the case with living story) I feel like I will miss out on events. I have only really played GW1 as far as MMO’s go and Mobas,

As far as I know all future LS events will be like LS2 was. You just need to physically log in any time in a 2-week period and you get it unlocked automatically. Worst case scenario you can unlock what you missed with gold —> gems.

You shouldn’t force yourself to play if you aren’t having fun simply because you don’t want to miss an event. They fixed that.

We need stealth counter skills

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Draknar.5748

Draknar.5748

Well, naturally you wouldn’t know to use the reveal skill unless you’ve already been attacked/bursted by the Thief and then he disappears to potentially escape and I guess the Reveal skill would prevent him from disappearing again and potentially attacking you.

OP, you do know that Thieves still take damage when invisible, right? Start throwing down AoE skills or swinging around a GS or something. I can’t count how many times I’ve killed a stealthed thief.

If they stealth and run away, that accomplishes essentially the same thing as killing them. You are no longer being attacked.

I see no reason to change stealth.

Hero Points

Well, I used tomes and dungeons to get an alt char to 80 and I’m not seeing any Hero Points when I go to the tab.

Have you unlocked all of your skills and traits?

If so, you shouldn’t have any.

If you 100% map complete (Including WvW, Southsun, Silverwaste, and Drytop) you should have 214 hero points.

This is confusing me now. I need Hero Points to unlock skills and traits. So no, I haven’t unlocked them. I find it kinda absurd I need to do map completion to get them all, if so.

I don’t believe you have to. I think there are two different windows you need to be looking at. The one with the circle for unlocking traits and the bars on the left showing progress is the window you should be able to max everything out on once you hit 80.

Community interaction as in being able to chat with guild members? Playing a Rev is no different than playing any other class as far as guild chatting.

You can still party with guild members, talk to guild members, play with guild members. You just can’t type in /guild nor be representing.

Don’t see how that affects community interaction.

New trait system Good or bad?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Draknar.5748

Explain to me how limiting customization in character builds is “far superior”

Look at it this way. Let’s say you went to an icecream store and they had 50 types of toppings! Wow so many options! You have chocolate sprinkles, fudge, whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, gummy bears, and then you get further down the line and you see they have anchovies, potato, rice, cilantro, hot sauce. You see where I’m going with this? The previous trait system had a lot of traits no one used. There were clearly better traits than others and combined with the GW2 meta it meant that most trait builds were never actually utilized.

I mean why keep a system that people don’t actually use. So they actually IMPROVED the system. They technically reduced the number of toppings available to choose from, but made the remaining toppings so much better.

try to say that after a long day’s work, stiff hands and then clicking your butt off to get a character to lvl 80, let’s see how long it takes till you cry like a baby because of the pain.

the idea of info is nice for new players but vets don’t give one single crap, they just want the character to lvl 80 and that’s it.

Are you saying that people have literally cried like a baby from the pain of all of the clicking, or are you saying it sarcastically, meaning you don’t think the clicking is a big deal.

I legitimately can’t tell if you honestly think the clicking to 80 is so bad it is physically painful or if you are being facetious.

Have your joints never burnt? Have you never had a hand cramp? Were you born with a silver spoon? Do you just get your butler to do all 240 clicks in a row for you?

Interesting jump from me asking if he was being serious about extreme pain from clicking a mouse to me somehow having a butler?

My joints have burned, my hands have cramped, I was not born with a silver spoon, my butler only does half of my clicks.

I have not experienced any of the above from GW2 clicking, however.

Might I suggest a programmable keyboard or mouse where you can program a button to do 50 clicks?

You have no data to prove how many ppl are still newbies or traditionally leveling and how many is using tomes.

Anyway, even if this new window was annoying only for minority, it improves nothing, so it is redundant.

I’m gld you have your own opinion, we need diversity, because diverity is good. But I’m still right with my arguments, but I’m not angry that you don’t agree with me. Have a nice day.

I have no data, nor does anyone else. But using general logic, players that have access to 60 ToK (w/ a +20 scroll which everyone has to have at this point) to level a toon up to 80 would be most likely a small minority. I don’t need data for that. I can also say with fair certainty that owners of, let’s say, Meteorlogicus are a small minority compared to those that don’t have it. I have no data, but it’s a fair assumption. Pointing out I don’t have data doesn’t really change that. It’s not like I’m throwing out concrete numbers here.

Coming to the forums to complain about being marginally inconvenienced for 2min while auto-leveling to 80 through tomes, to me, just seems trivial and honestly a bit whiney. That was my one and only point.

But diversity of opinions and thinking is what has advanced our society, so I’m not angry with you either, haha.

That I haven’t really experienced but I see people talking about them so they must be real problems and now I’m really angry about them (not you personally, as you don’t seem angry, but the vast majority of angry ‘Anet sucks and they are ruining the game!’ forum posters seem to just piggy back on some other person’s angry post).

What bothers me the most about a lot of the posts about the “problems” with GW2 is that not only are the posters usually just regurgitating what they’ve “heard” is wrong and then react on it, but then all of the other GW2 haters come out of the woodwork to join in the circle-jerk, almost all of which are also just reacting based on posts that they’ve read, or things they’ve heard, and very little is based on experiences because they barely play the game anymore.

A thread complaining about having to close a window? Literally one mouse click.

Is there really nothing you guys won’t gripe about?

EDIT: An additional mouse click, mind you, that only happens when you level….

It’s not 1 mouse click. It’s 79 additional redundant clicks. This game should be reducing clicking yet it’s multiplying it. Bags hidden in bags, now you get level window after level window. This is bad design.

79 additional clicks spread out over….what 100hrs of game play? So like, an additional 1 click every 80min?

I’m not saying I like all of the clicking, who does, but good god this is such trivial nonsense and just makes the GW2 player base (read: forum base) sound like a bunch of spoiled children.

I’m not a new player. I have tomes to lvl my characters. And leveling with tomes was terrible after NPE disaster patch. Now it is even worse. Why? Because all this clicking actually hurts.

I’ve broken 3 mice already with extensive clicking GW2 requires. I should be refunded for this. However I’m only expecting development team to improve their product, e.g with making their game less frustrating – in this case they should have done anything to improve all the pop ups we get while playing. Pop up chests, pop up levels, pop up WvW rewards, PvP chests. Click, click, clickery click. And while with champ bags you can help yourself by binding 2-click to your scroll its absolutely useless against those infite pop up screens (that are ugly in addition, but that’s just my opinion).

Now, professional development would try to improve responsivity of their product, e.g by eliminating redundant clicks, pointless mouse moving and UI disfunctions. However in this case, we were given another annoying addition to already totally unresponsive pop up screens. Why? Why is this game so mediocre while it could have been so great?

Ohhhh, you’re talking about if you pop all tomes and level up to 80 in one fell swoop. Well, yea that’s a lot of clicking, but I think we can all agree that people who do that (I am one as well) are definitely not the norm. I’d like to think we can all agree that the convenience of leveling to 80 within 5min of character creation far outweighs the inconvenience of 79 additional clicks.

I am concerned about your broken mice, however. I’ve played since early release and I’ve not broken any mice. Maybe don’t Hulk out on your mice?

The rest of the questions I’ve already answered. It’s pointless to run in circles with arguments when we won’t find a common ground. You believe in equality I don’t. Have a nice, equal day.

You are really only upset because actual low level characters have an advantage against content for their own level and you don’t. You don’t need that advantage. You are able to clear all of the content with ease anyway.

And no, the traits are not useless because you have lower base stats. If you have a trait that procs an additional condition stack, or removes a condition, or does additional % damage for a weapon use, or procs an ability on crit, etc. It’s still an increase in DPS. And an increase that lowbie characters do not have access to.

For example, whatever DPS numbers a 21 Guardian is putting out based on his stats, I can already add like 15%+ damage onto it if I have traits for a) +% scepter/GS damage b) +% damage under Aegis effect and c) +% damage if target is burning.

Not to mention access to my Wrath shout elite that gives me 10s of fury and attack speed.

How the heck can you not see that these alone put you well above a lowbie character in terms of DPS and survivability.

Like for real. Use your brain.

Mission Impossible: Sharkmaw Cavern

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The difference here is three-fold:

2. Failure at other JPs is rarely fatal and rarer still requires you to do a significant run to get back to your entry point. Usually a missed jump allows you to restart at some point in the middle.

3. You also now have to go back and get that kitten rifle, which can happen even if you survive the fall. Taking a dip will remove it.

First point is true, I don’t think it was ever intended for there to be a secret spot to slide through versus obvious ledges that need to be navigated.

Your second point though is simply not true. There are plenty, if not more than 50% of the JPs that are fatal if you fall (don’t have the time to look it up for facts, but having done them all multiple times, it just feels true. Maybe not at the entrance, but certainly during, and many times getting to the entrance is a much longer run than what is experienced in Sharkmaw (Not So Secret Jumping Puzzle for example).

Getting that rifle is a short run (under 10secs) from a FREE waypoint. Then another free waypoint to a ~1min run. Plus the water thing is a bug for Engies I thought. One of those karkas requires shooting it from underwater so I know for a fact you can use them underwater.

Essentially this entire thread = “dying on this JP is inconvenient. ANET FIX THIS!!”

Of course it’s inconvenient. They are all inconvenient when you fall and/or die.

I really don’t understand the people that say this makes lower level content too difficult. It’s like, Silverwastes, yea no that’s an OK difficulty, it’s level 80, the mobs are hard, but no one complains it is too hard.

They change down-scaling to essentially make it so that playing at a down-scaled level is actually like being that level and suddenly it’s the end of the world, the content is too hard, it’s like being crippled.

Like seriously? It literally took the downscaled content from facerolleasy, to just regular easy.

I wish people would get over this idea that because you are level 80 in max gear that you should somehow be a god walking around the lower level zones. Where monsters melt just from looking at you. If you want that, go play a game that doesn’t down-scale. You can AoE 1-shot all the grey mobs you want then.

Except nobody is asking to be gods, we’re asking to be more powerful than low level toons in green gear. You can ignore that fact for your own convenience all you want but it won’t change it. As it stands my level 21 mesmer in level 20 green gear does more than my full level 80 full exotic full meta build mesmer. Sorry, that is bogus and it needs to be fixed.

Except you have access to far more powerful traits and skills….

And in general you are likely a far better player who knows how to utilize proper skill rotation, combos, positioning, kiting, etc.

But if you want to completely focus on one aspect and compare the attack of a 21 mesmer vs an 80 mesmer, then sure, I guess then the level 21 mesmer is just so much better than your fully geared 80 mesmer… (even though your DPS will be far greater simply because of the traits and skills that have been unlocked)

Your whole argument boils down to: “Yea it’s easy, but I don’t like the fact that a low level character in level appropriate gear can auto-attack for more than I can because I’m a level 80 in the best gear and I need to feel like I am.”

Easy is easy. Who cares if it’s slightly easier for lower level characters. That’s the WHOLE point….

Also dungeon sets you can get by daily pvp – again implying zero effort – but if you want to roll it into money you can do that.
Want that hard to get Arah armor? Get yourself some gold with your gems and buy spots that people are selling. You’d be surprised how often it happens.

I posit that getting dungeon armor via PvP requires substantially more effort than actually running the dungeons, it certainly takes much longer, which in my opinion directly relates to more effort.

This is getting slightly off topic,
But it’s known that it’s more effective to get the Dungeon sets through PvP especially for say arah or hotw. Plus there are no daily limits like there are for tokens, so a person doing PvP could complete an entire track in a day getting 5 pieces of dungeon items, while a person running dungeons is pretty much limited to 180-240ish.

That and PvP must be considered a difficulty 0 activity, sure you might get a group that beats you into the group but you still get reward track progress for failure, And you’ll run into groups you can beat without issue, there is no consistency to the difficulty meaning it has to be assumed to be the lowest level of difficulty.

At least in Dungeons everyone is undergoing the exact same trial at the exact same difficulty.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but at the end of the full dungeon track, you only get ONE of the dungeon armor pieces, right? You don’t get the whole set as far I am aware.

Versus running dungeons you can effectively get one piece every day (or every other day for some pieces)playing ~60-90min/day.

I don’t think you can get through the entire dungeon track in 60-90min. (I know you can’t actually)

The real money makers were the accounts with 10k AP+, multiple legendaries, max PvP rank, rare titles, maxed crafts, multiple ascended armor, full inventory expansions, multiple extra character slots, full bank expansions, personal banker, personal TP, unlimited gathering tools, etc. Not one listed any kind of backpiece skin as part of their sales pitch. Mostly because nobody really cares since backpiece skins have no stats and are completely subjective.

Interesting….

IMO healing/condition removal got a boost with the trait/specialization changes on Guardians.

But the DPS PvE meta is still the meta. Your celestial shout hybrid Guard never was meta, and likely never will be. Unless we are talking WvW, in which case, I see the stat benefits.

I love my celestial Ranger in WvW.

Race change on gem store/black lion chest?

Why is this even a point? If they re-roll with a new character and do the entire story again, they’re getting all the rewards again. Either way they start from zero and get the rewards again, so why does it matter.

Except a new character wouldn’t be level 80 in full Ascended I guess is the point.

If race change forced your character to revert back to level 1, removed all Hero Points, and reset their map completion (but keeping their gifts of exploration, title, and star if you had gotten 100%—you just have to run from point to point like every other new player) then it wouldn’t really matter. It’s basically like starting over at that point. I even say let them keep their crafts, what does that hurt really.

All cultural skinned armor of course would be unusable unless the skin was changed, but other than that, I see no issues.

But then, really, why not simply make a new character?

I’m with everyone else in that MMORPGs are always incomplete. That’s like saying WoW: BC was incomplete because they were planning on adding new zones and classes and races and new level cap later on with future expansions anyway.

Please change waypoint system

Perhaps one of my greatest frustrations with this game, is the ridiculous way that waypoints are used. I both love hate waypoints, as waypoints are leagues better than mounts, but you actually have to unlock a waypoint to use it. It is so frustrating to want to do something in one area, but have to trek through the entire map simply to get there.
Example: My human character has never left DR, he leveled exclusively through tomes, wvw, or something else. Now he’s 80 and I want to do higher level stuff, like Shatterer. Now I have to spend forever, to simply get there to unlock that waypoint, so I can do Shatterer again in the future. The fact that there are no unlocked waypoints by default is so incredibly stupid. If I’m an asura and I have not yet gone to ascalon, and I want to go do the AC dungeon, I have to do a lot of mindless walking just to get there.

Now, I know the world completionists like their world completion, I get it, however, unlocking waypoints in key areas would not exactly hurt. Unlock one waypoint in each major city, this already greatly increases mobility while losing nothing. Better yet, unlock the waypoint next to each dungeon. There is no reason why we shouldn’t be able to waypoint directly to the dungeon.

Some of you might say “Oh well you will unlock the waypoints as you go along in the personal story.” Two things. First, I don’t like the personal story, chapter 2 was ok, but the rest was really boring. Second, you don’t go to every area when you play PS. As a human, really the only race I like, I never went to Rata Sum or any other areas.

Please Anet, change the waypoint system so it doesn’t require so much work to simply go places.

If by “mindless walking” on your Asura, you literally mean, take an Asura gate to Black Citadel and then walk half-way across one zone….then sure…I guess that really is too much work…

I love how 5min of running is all of a sudden simply too much for any one person to have to suffer through.

Come on…seriously?

Grenade barrage bug technically an exploit

There are definitely people that have gone out of their ways to take advantage of the mistake, no one is denying that, but with the Guardian trait and Grenade Barrage, both are things that a normal player of those classes would have chosen to use, bugged or not.

It wouldn’t be fair to have those people reported for playing their class they way they always would have just because Anet messed up their codings or whatever, and there’s no way to definitively tell when someone is just playing the game normally or when they are taking advantage.

I swear this was not as difficult to get into before the patch. I’ve jumped down there at least 5-6 times pre-patch for different alts doing LA map completion and I had not died a single time. I was doing the Karka hunting on my Guardian soon after the patch and died 6 times in a row just trying to clear the bloody entrance.

It was the first time I ever rage-quit. Not my proudest moment, but holy crap! They did something that affected this and I am not pleased. Even after jumping onto that rock on the side, I still got whacked for 95% of my health on the way down. I did eventually finish the Karka hunting, so there’s that, but easily 30 minutes wasted just running to the maw…

That seems just ridiculous.

……6 times made you rage quit?

There are far worse jumping puzzles in terms of clearing the start (Skipping Stones for example).

Do people honestly feel like they should be able to get through jumping puzzles on their first try or heck even single digit tries? I’ve done JPs that have taken me dozens upon dozens of attempts, and I don’t find that ridiculous in the slightest.

DPS is broken and we are tired of it

The game lacks build diversity. There is not enough in the trait system to make really unique and interesting builds. Not in the way you see in other MMO’s, or like in GW1. I blame the removal of the dual profession-system for this. I don’t feel like my necromancer is all that different from any other necromancer. Sure, I can max out my DPS, or my conditions, or specialize in minions. But I don’t really feel like there’s a lot of opportunity for interesting build mechanics. You won’t see any 55 monks in GW2, just to give an example.

I can’t speak for GW1 (I’ve heard it had a great system for builds), but in terms of every other MMO I’ve played, build diversity went by a meta. You are X class healer? You better be running this gear, these skills, should be using this rotation. You are X class DPS? You better be running this gear, these skills, using this rotation.

I’m not sure why you think GW2 is less diverse than any other MMO, there are lots of potential builds, but if they aren’t meta then everyone scoffs. It’s no different than any other MMO I’ve played. If you aren’t the meta then your DPS numbers suffer, your heal numbers suffer, and everyone is wondering why you are terrible (according to damage/heal meters).

Not a bug, you just need to use the little rock ledges now instead of just sliding down (which always seemed to succeed randomly for me).
