Where are your traits? With 10 Points in Shadow Arts you get a good condition removal on stealth. It’s hard to say how to beat it with no idea what build you are using. Hide in Shadows also removes bleed, poison, burning. Shadow return removes 3 conditions.

IMO they just need to make towers and keeps harder to take. The speed in which we can cap is phenomenal making back capping the preferred tactic rather than fighting and defending.

I would rather see controlled free transfers than paid transfers.
A controlled free transfer would only open up transfers to specific servers that need the population. With the data that ANet are gathering they could identify which servers are lacking and which ones are flooded at specific times and link the two for free one way transfers. Of course this will only work of they are able to move their guild influence with them.

Chances are they were server hoppers anyway, you can have them. We only want players in Sanctum of Rall that want to be Sanctum of Rall. Your hoppers will leave you in the dust the moment you look like losing.

A good commander can lead without the icon. A bad commander can’t lead with or without it. If people follow you without it, then you know the money will be well spent.

I’m not a great commander, I don’t read up on strategies or learn the ins and outs of every map and I generally don’t have the time to command every night of the week (usually one or two nights per week for me due to long hours of work). What I do though is treat my server with respect, listen to good advice (and learn to filter out bad advice).

One important strategy I use that works for me is that I don’t order people to do anything, I communicate with them what my intentions are and word my requests so they don’t generate animosity. For example, If I am planning a keep assault, I tell them that I need X at this location or I need Y supply camp capture to cut supply to the keep. I don’t order people to do anything, I just tell them what I need to get the job done and the majority of the time it gets done. People that want to help are always around to help, people that just tag along are helping just by boosting numbers.

My group ran into a group of thieves from Yaks Bend last night in Sanctum of Rall Borderlands. Our group had two thieves, a warrior, ranger and guardian, their group had four thieves and a necro. It was the most epic fight I have experienced in the game so far. Yes they were constantly in and out of stealth, using backstabs and rotating their Dagger Storm like pro’s but we still beat them in the end, with three dead and two escaping. They are challenging, but it is not overpowered or impossible with smart play. They are good at taking down other glass cannons, but put them against a group with immobilise, AoE and condition damage and they will run like kittens. If they Dagger Storm, just move away and they run out of steam, then use knockback/knockdowns, stuns, immobilise, daze, blind, etc etc every class has a few tools to deal with them.

While I find it cheesy I don’t think it’s that big of an issue when every other AoE can as well. I would say that Siege should be friendly fire (As should all AoE) but I understand this is a themepark MMO and I can accept that many players just would never accept friendly fire.

Flame rams can avoid being hit if they are placed 360 units.
Players shouldn’t be swinging swords at doors, they should be protecting the flanks.

I don’t think it’s that big of an issue that it needs to be pushed up the priority list for ANet fixes. I do think the culling/rendering issue is way more important.

The range of Infiltrators Arrow isn’t effected by Cripple or Frozen. It also completely ignores Immobilization.

Warriors have no pull skills, all of our stuns are melee range, and we have no skills that provide confusion.

To put it simply, the very moment a Thief decides to run from you as a Warrior, he’s successfully disengaged you.

Don’t Warriors have an AoE with Immobilise on Longbow?
Bull Rush to charge and knockdown?
Shield slot 4 to charge and stun?
Hammer burst skill?

Infiltrator Arrow allows the thief to shadow step away but he’s still immobilised at the other end.

I have never, ever been killed by a Thief on my Warrior and Guardian.
Maybe the day will come, but until the class is based on gibbing and I’m a player that equips anti-gib tools on any character, I will continue to laugh at gib Thieves. No offense.

No offense taken You are obviously applying simple logic to your profession. I actually like running into smart players that use their brains to counter. Ran into a sword & shield warrior the other day that completely soaked up a pistol whip (pre nerf) with a 3 second block (slot 5). I was so impressed I headshot him with the next attack and let him get away (Just kidding, I used headshot and BP then proceeded to kill him with slash chain)

I haven’t used dual pistols for a couple of weeks, I might revisit now that Pistol whip has been nerfed. I was playing with Pistol/Dagger & Dual Dagger last night with 30 trickery and getting 20 stacks of bleeding on target before they started to fall off. Caltrops, DB, CnD and Sneak Attack, then withdraw/Rfi and watch them bleed to death ftlulz.

If u want to spam unload get the Infiltrator signet and 20 in acrobatics Quick Recovery

30 in critical and get leet executioner and any that boosts ur damage

another instant initiative build for pistols is 30 trickery for the 4i onheal combined with withdrawl and rfi you get two successive roll evades for 10i. Withdrawl is like a fast Rfi with 30 trickery, 4i every 15seconds.

I’ve seen elementalists complain today that there is no counter. Go to their own forums and there are posts about static shield and mistform. If only they would read their own forums instead of whining in ours.
The afore mentioned elementalist even said “why should I have to change to d/d when I use a staff?”
By that logic, why should I have to use dagger/dagger to backstab when i use sword/pistol?
Elementalists even have a major trait that gives them a static shield when stunned…
Rangers have a major trait the grants them stealth when stunned.
It’s not hard people… simple logic.

if you’re good at leading then people will follow you regardless, the commander book helps a commander but it’s not needed to command. It just gives you a nice big symbol over your head to make it easier for people to see where you are and where you’re going.
If you don’t plan to lead or aren’t sure how then I personally wouldn’t waste gold on it, especially if it’s just for yourself. If your server doesn’t like the way you lead them, then they wont follow you into battle even with the book.

I wouldn’t waste money on t3 cultural either. I don’t see how 30g per piece can be justified. Both of these comments are only my opinion though, it’s your gold, spend it all on cotton candy if you want.

I think Orbs should work like relics from Age of Empire 2: Age of Kings. If anyone hasnt played it (its an RTS), monks would go out in search of relics and return them to their temple. When inside the temple the generated extra income. Translate that to GW2 and WvW, Orbs captured could increase the potential points of their keep by +15 for example. Holding orbs would then be more about the game and less about power.

Don’t assume I’m playing 1v1 tournaments. I have not set foot in sPvP since open beta. I am purely playing this game for WvW.

Btw I play a D/D elementalist as well. I only drag out my staff for keeps.
Want advice on how to beat Thieves with elementalist? Ask Colton.9460 in the elementalist threads, he gets it.

Don’t want to switch to d/d ele? then don’t expect any sympathy. We have to use dagger to backstab, we have only 6 choices of weapon sets, you have more than 20 weapon skills at your disposal from one weapon set, use them. You can deal over 6k crits to 5 people from 1200 rangewith that precious staff, Thieves have one weapon skill with 1200 range… one skill.

SoR has had no incidents of hacking in our matchup this week so hopefully we have caught ours. Our matchup this week there has only been 2 orb hacking incidents and they were from one individual from Yaks Bend. Yaks Bend were great sports and let us take the Orb back and Ascension Bay and we then left Ascension bay undefended so they could take it back as they had taken it legitimately in the first place. Much respect goes out to the leader of [Foo] for organising this. Hacking ruins WvW for everyone involved but with good coordination and respect for the other teams maybe other servers will follow the example of Yaks Bend in the future.

I’m just posting this as information and maybe encouragement that servers affected by these lowlifes can work together to eliminate the issue.

Limiting portal to 5 people will just mean more people will roll mesmers to support their raid. Every group will have a mandatory mesmer spot. It’s fine the way it is. I do thing AoE limit should be increased to 10 for spells or allow infinite number of pets/minions effected, 5 is beginning to cause groups to use tactics to exploit the 5 person limit.

Stealth enables us to choose when to start a fight? no more than a mesmer with invisibility. Stealth lasts 4 seconds when traited, thieves don’t just appear from nowhere unless you aren’t paying attention or they aren’t rendering. This isn’t WoW or Rift where you can have unlimited stealth uptime AND burst, our stealth is short and our damage high when attacking from stealth. I’ve seen other medium armour professions do just as well if not better than a thief in 1vmany encounters. If you play an elementalist, maybe try using dagger/dagger, I’ve seen some impressive dagger ele’s out there that rotate through their attunements extremely well, I’ve been countered with Air stun shield (name?) followed by their AoE Knockback (earth), finding myself retreating with burning, bleeds and vuln conditions as all of my cooldowns were used up. I’ve been destroyed by smart engi’s, Killed in seconds by quickness rangers and wasted backstabs and all cooldowns on a mesmer clone. I wont even mention Scepter Guardians (Thieves only have two ways of removing immobilize) or Warriors (Thieves have one elite skill that grants stability). Some smart Rangers turn invisible when stunned, I’ve never caught one unless they were not paying attention. Everything in this game can be countered in one way or another.

It’d be best if you don’t answer for the entire community. Certainly a lot of people don’t find WvW fine the way it is. You should add an argument to the discussion too.

And I reiterate, despite Arenanet wanting the population to spread itself out, they really haven’t provided any incentive to, which is problematic.

I’m not speaking for the community, I said we. We might not cover you, We might not cover the next person, but We used in the sentence I gave does cover those of Us that do not see a problem with WvW the way it is.

Splitting a community into 12 hour shifts doesn’t help those players in +6 timezones or -4 Timezones. Splitting servers (Another proposed solution from a different thread) into US, Oceanic, Asian, Russian, EU etc etc wont fix things either because people with more time on their hands will run alarm clock raids. Locking times into 12 hour matches changes the whole scope of the WvW game, it may as well be sPvP. I could go on but the topic and it’s proposed solutions have been flogged to death.

Give it time, it took about 5 weeks before SoR got into a competitive bracket, now that we have WvW is kitten awesome. Free transfers don’t help the issue though

I think something along the lines of DICE Battlelog/battlereport in Battlefield 3 could work really well. They dont boost power, the boost variety and cosmetics and provide stat comparisons, cosmetics include uniforms and dogtags, variety offer different weapon options that are designed to be different but not powerful. For example a assault rifle would have a higher rate of fire but deal less damage, this translated to GW2 might (I stress might as this is an example) be an alternative weapon skill slotted in replacement of a current one. Example, an Elementalist using staff gains 10, 000 lava font kills, now he has the option of continuing to use laba font, or he can replace slot 2 with a new ability of comparable power but different variety

Great matchup I can’t say this enough, I just wish we didn’t have the culling issue this week.

I like Stivs idea, it reminds me of the battlelog in Battlefield3 which is in no way a bad thing. Things like kill count with X weapon, uses of specific Utility skills and Combos could allow for progression that unlocks new animation or visual effects (like the cow finisher), saving an ally from certain death (healing the back from 5% health with a blast finisher/heal combi field for example). Maybe with new expansions in the future we could unlock a weapon skill varient that can be slotted to replace the original. Things that add flavour and not power, variety and not just a stat increase.

Hell the auto attack does more damage then this.

The autoattack doesn’t daze the enemy and prevent you from taking damage, does it?

I play P/D thief mostly, but switched to S/P to try out this Pistol Whip, and I found it was not only too strong, but it was boring as well. It’s not useless now by far, you get a daze, a dodge, and an aoe attack. If you think Pistol Whip is useless now, try going Pistol/Dagger, you’re almost entirely single target, deal less damage, and if you don’t kite properly then you die much quicker. Not only that but P/D doesn’t have an ‘i win’ skill.

What you find boring other people find fun. I hate pistol/dagger combo because it is such a slow process of kiting, conditions and more kiting. If I wanted to play a kiting character I’d play a ranger or mage-like. I tried condition builds as well as sword/dagger control builds, they are all just as harmful as pistol whip and backstab, they just don’t show the big scary burst in the combat log. I actually find Sword/Pistol more interesting out of the six choices we have, I enjoy having an option with zero stealth and zero venom. I’m a Thief not an Assassin.

DAOC is probably the only game that ever did it right though. Age of Conans Alternate advancement was game breaking, Warhammer Online was okay because you gained RR from level 1, Rifts Planar advancement was horrible. I could deal with Daoc/war style RR if it started at level 1 like WAR so new players could compete.

I definitely agree that only siege should damage gates and walls. This might encourage random players to guard their siege and suppress wall defenders more.

I have never seen FL spam guild recruitment in LA or WvW but I do know that the spammer is not them.
