In the past 3 weeks, I have had ~900g flow through my inventory, all without ever having more than 50g showing up in my inventory. Does this mean I manipulate the market? No, not unless you count using the market manipulating it. My power trading does not disrupt the flow of the trading post. I simply use the current prices to make my profiit.

And, to expand on idea number 3 (item storage). It doesn’t affect anything at all. The listing fee would reduce the income generated by that method, causing any player to just do a quick sell instead of a list. This would not only minimize the cost of listing fee, but it would also give them about the same as if they vendored after getting hit by the listing fee.

Additionally, having a listing time makes no sense in the current implementation. I don’t think any of the people arguing for it have truly read what we’ve been saying.

Also, You can most certainly roll in prestige, it helps immensely if your trying to kill off your illusions and confuse opponents.

You can NOT dodge roll during The Prestige, the entire skill is a channel from blind-to-burn, if you do any non-instant action it will break the channel and give you the revealed debuff.

There’s a brief window of forgiveness at the end. Try playing around in PvE.

I have yet to use a GS in any dungeon unless it’s one where I know I’ll be cheesing the mobs from afar or hitting a lot of destructibles.

Staff is just soo amazing as a quickblink tool and shatter-factory machine.

I can spend entire fights in Staff constantly using my skills (especially if I work Mimic into it, the cooldowns merge just perfectly).

Inversely, I can also spend entire fights with Sword/Sword using offensive skills, but if I ever panic, Staff has my back.

Not if you do it right. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been on my tank build, down someone in the middle of an enemy zerg with confusion/retaliation damage, time warp and instastomp them with 20+ people trying to revive/knock me off them, and you get successful stomp and successful escape. No guilt or shame there, just pure GTFO I’M A MESMER!

Phantasm = Shatter fodder.
4skill = Defensive skill from the heavens.

If you’re using the 4skill for a shatter (say, in combination with Staff5), it’s a bit hectic. You have to time it perfectly as you have less than a second of time for the window to be used correctly. If you’re mixing it with a different field, say from your utilities, it’s a lot easier (especially with Feedback’s insta-cast Mantra style).

Overall, I use it in WvW when I’m serious and am not sure of my own strengths. It helps me get in and out of fights (dodging through a Zerg to get to that down person for a finish, or simply getting away). The blast finish itself is no joke either, the damage from that can be combo’ed with a shatter to allow large amounts of damage to pop up out of nowhere so the victim is unable to react/roll. In PvE, I tried using it as a support Mesmer, and it worked, but I never really thought of using it in conjunction with my utility-fields, which is why I stopped being a “true-support” Mesmer and instead focused my efforts on being a damage-support Mesmer. If used properly, the Torch is no joke of a weapon, but it takes a high amount of cooldown-awareness and timing to properly utilize (and the timing is cooldowns on weapons you are not equipped to at that time).

Frustrated with Illusionary Leap

in Mesmer

I personally think the skill is backwards, it should be a dash to the target, leaving a clone at your position, like a reverse phase retreat, that way, even if you’re at 601 range, you’re at least getting SOMETHING from the skill, rather than “lolol ur 2 far awai, no skill 4 u, but u can has this cooldown if u want lolol”

Yessss, this would be a great way to fix it. Worse than using it out of range (something I can improve myself) are the pathing issues, especially in pvp. Unless I’m getting the drop on a totally stationary target, I don’t expect the clone to get there.

In response to both kodesh and Calcifire:

The problem with this is that the Clone is still a Clone wielding a Sword. By design, all Clones will attempt to attack with their current weapon, meaning that the Clone will attempt to walk forward and attack with it’s sword. Any other AI would involve breaking the current “meta” so to speak for current Clones, causing a possible forced re-write of all Clones, thus creating too much workload for such a simple problem.

I had thought of that as a fix, for a while, but not only does it create a worthless Clone (assuming you do bypass natural Clone AI), you’re also blatantly copying a Thief skill with a much shorter duration of “return-cast”.

If you could get more than 1 order armor via this method, it would lose its’ authenticity).

Would be fun. I love running around helping people in general. I can definitely see a 100% zone having blue hearts that are essentially repeatable and when completed will act similarly to an event instead of getting the money reward. Or perhaps a mixture.

If you’re playing GW2 for a hardcore experience then you’re playing the wrong game. Go play Dark Souls or Wizardry Online, WO has permadeath so I’m sure you’ll like it, its free to play and it came out a week or two ago, no reason not to check it out.

Heh, I’m sorry, but Guild Wars 1 and 2 are made for casual and hardcore players alike.

Just the other day, I logged onto my Mesmer in GW1 and typed /age.

Today, I logged onto my Mesmer in GW2 and typed /age.

The results?

GW1:
Mesmer 770 hours over the past 15 months.
Account 880 hours over the past 77 months.

GW2:
Mesmer 725 hours over the past 4 months.
Account 886 hours over the past 5 months

Just a note, I played GW1 casually until the end. Additionally, there were many little achievements that could take up a ton of time.

You see all those people with the title God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals? That means they’ve typically spent 2000 hours in GW1 at LEAST.

You see all those people with the title Champion of the Gods? That means they’ve also typically spent those 2000 hours in GW1 doing something else.

Arenanet screwed up by making Legendaries too easy to get. If anything, I want Hard Mode and some form of Vanquishing to be re-added and possibly a Hard Downscaling where you, at level 80, downscale and Exotic Gear turns into the equivalent of White or Blue gear at that level. I enjoy a challenge and I have spent countless hours in low level zones.

Oh, Queensdale, how I love you for your Pre-searing feel.

EDIT:

And yes, I have tried Wizardry Online (too poor to afford Dark Souls. I’ll probably save up for DS2 when it comes out). The system was nice, but it was too punishing in terms of no regen at all. If you didn’t know what you were doing, you were somewhat forced to play a Priest, which I don’t mind being forced into that corner. The system was definitely fun and a breath of fresh air, but the main thing that put me off was the slow combat system.

After playing GW2, I just can’t stand being forced to stand still for everything and Wizardry Online does a TERRIBLE job of that. You use a skill, and you use it where you stand. If you’re not in range or barely out of range, sucks to be you, you’re now going to get hit. Additionally, finding whether or not something is in range is a pain. Mix the minimum mobility with a system that includes a dodge and you just get a headache of adjusting your position while trying to avoid damage.

How would it affect the precursor market?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

That kind of defeats the purpose. It’s not an auction (I’m not TRYING to say that it’s not WoW’s auction house, I’m trying to say that it’s not a place where) you list something to get sold within X amount of time. This would also ruin the majority of the system for the lower-end players that are smart enough to use the system but not abuse it.

I know that I usually just do an “overnight sale” type system where I put up my stuff and expect it to sell by morning. In some cases, markets will change and they will take upwards of a week to sell, but they will sell. If they made a system like that to combat inflation, it would hurt a lot of players.

My profits are small margins, sure I’m making upwards of 1g a trade (6-15g since I work in bulk), but if they were to implement something like that, my profits would go from 1g to ~40s in some circumstances. Other times, I may actually lose money, making the TP useless for me.

Additionally, when I had first hit 80 and was not running dungeons, I was making profits of about 3-15s a trade. If a system like this were to go in place, my profits would not have been happening at all since it would have been too risky.

The whole point of the TP is:

  • I want to sell X for Y.
  • He wants to buy X for Y.
  • Black Lion Trading Company is gives my X to him for his Y.

It’s not a:

  • I want to sell X for Y.
  • X did not sell, now I must re-list it.

I dunno, I’m not making sense anymore, I need to sleep. Bye.

If no new gold/currency is getting introduced into a market, there is no way for inflation to occur.

This is hilariously wrong. You could very easily get inflation from a change in the drop rate, or from a change in spending habits, for the two most obvious examples.

That is, a shift to a lower item drop rate, at the same monetary stock and spending habits, will lead to inflation; a higher item drop rate would cause deflation. Similarly, a higher propensity to save would lead to deflation; a higher propensity to spend, inflation.

The view that the rate of inflation is dependent solely on changes to the monetary base is the economic equivalent of the Flat Earth theory – a quaint notion that doesn’t withstand more than the slightest scrutiny.

Continue to disregard the rest of my paragraph which actually took into consideration your point which you derogatorily used to slander my conversational points.

When you have something stored, it is marked with a glowing orb on your hand.
However, be aware that catching the one projectile you actually want is very hard, since most auto-attacks are also projectiles. Also, anything that is nor specifically marked projectile can’t be caught either.

Inflation isn’t a bug or broken mechanics or design principles. The only way to get rid of inflation is to have a set amount of gold circulating at any given time with no influence from anything else.

That wouldn’t do much of anything to eliminate inflation / deflation. You’d also have to keep the rates of production, consumption, and spending static as well (or, technically, only allow them to move in ways that are perfectly off-setting).

Without turning off all activity whatsoever, there’s essentially no way to keep the price level static. It’s naturally going to bounce around as people interact and trade. The only real question is how much is it going to bounce around, and can people expect it to follow some sort of stable trend in the future.

If no new gold/currency is getting introduced into a market, there is no way for inflation to occur. People can stockpile money, but that will not actually inflate prices.

Of course, with a system like that, inflation would seep in by having items or something else come in as a currency, but that’s why my wording included the term currency so that there is NOTHING being used as currency that is getting introduced into the market. (Think GW1 Ecto.)

The entire idea of getting rid of inflation without currency sinks is a vast controlled-market idea. I’m simply trying to get the layman to understand that bots/market-manipulators != inflation. If anything, the bots reduce inflation (by providing supply). The market manipulators can create an illusion of inflation, but they are simply controlling an items price and inflating it; the market itself is not inflating due to them (at least, the entirety of the market, not the entirety of A market).

To re-iterate on that final sentence, sure, market manipulators control the high-end low-supply items and therefore can inflate that specific market. But they are not inflating the entire trading post.

I did a little experiment to see about the condition removal of Mender’s Purity in conjunction with Mantra of Recovery. It’s pretty cumbersome. Basically, if you have the Mantra charged, none of the uses remove a condition. And, even after casting Mantra of Recovery (to reset the charges), the condition is not removed. It’s only after you use the first charge (after charging up) that a condition is removed.

At least that’s how my simple test went (trying poison from Marsh Drakes), so it looks like Mantra of Recovery is not very interesting.

I considered trying to get to 30 in Domination and try using two mantras, but it doesn’t feel like it’s worth it.

I don’t know what happened with you, possibly getting re-applied as you removed, but each of the uses of the Mantra of Recovery will remove a stack of conditions. Back when I had 20 points in inspiration, I would run Mantra of Recovery, Mantra of Stability, and the Cond Removal Mantra for Swamp Fractal. If I got hit by a cripple, I would use MoR. If I got hit by cripple again, I would use MoR again. If I was about to pass a trap, I would use MoS (back when traps were in the ground, therefore partially invisible). And if I still got crippled, I would use the Cond Removal Mantra.

Thx for pointing this out on my post. I had a couple more questions looking at this.

Why not use the Mantra of Recovery heal with this build? It would remove conditions more often and heal allies more. (I think that’s how the Inspiration X skill works. It heals when you actually cast the mantra (versus charging), right?)

When you start off a battle, do you try to put up berserker or warlock first (and swap weapon in time to avoid the swap cooldown). Or do you start with a clone from Mirror Blade for example? It seems like for lots of fights, you would want GS auto-attack going while you were casting Mantra of Pain to add more damage (without creating clones).

Do you end up needing blink and decoy as survival skills? Or are they for rez’ing party members? I was wondering how swappable they are.

Thx again!

Mantra heal is on charge completion, not charge activation. Aka, you charge up your mantra and heal people, then you have the 2-3 uses and those don’t heal around you.

My answer would be Tetris as it was the only perfect balanced game I’ve ever seen. I get your point while I also guess you misunderstood me. Of course, GW2 came out 6 months ago. That makes those 2months look pretty short in comparison. I also hope that the polishing will make this great game even better, but in the mean time it’s about grind, grind, grind or playing the TP.

Stopping you right here. GW2 came out in mid-August, which was 5 months ago.
Semantics.

I think it is also important that enough people complain about those facts in the forums. I also think that it is more important to fix bugs and get your hands on broken things, mechanics or design principles than to implement new events every 2 weeks or so. But that is my personal thinking about priorities and I guess it won’t affect the devs’.

But I guess we’re a bit off topic right now.

Inflation isn’t a bug or broken mechanics or design principles. The only way to get rid of inflation is to have a set amount of gold circulating at any given time with no influence from anything else.

To give you an example of a system like this (using no real set laws or game) the game would have a system similar to as follows…

  • Fresh game with 100,000,000 gold dispersed across NPC’s and mobs alike (less in non-humanoid mobs to account for realisticality, although allow some in chests to compensate/accommodate).
  • Players start playing game, gathering items and gold from mobs.
  • Players sell items to NPC’s gathering some of each NPC’s gold count.
  • Players buy from NPC’s giving to each NPC’s gold count.
  • NPC’s/Players get attacked and killed, mobs gain gold.

What would this do?

  • No new gold would enter the economy, all the gold is limited.
  • Inflation would get hindered.~(More expanded on later)

What problems can arise?

  • Players stockpiling gold would cause inflation on high-end/tier objects while deflating low-end/tier objects. (I may be wrong on this one, but it sounds sound to me. I am no economic major, so feel free to prove me wrong.)

This would happen due to less gold circulating, therefore less gold being used to buy low-end/tier items. For high-end/tier items, the stockpiling would probably be BECAUSE of said items.

  • No new gold enters the economy. New players will have a hard time gaining gold once the “economy” settles.

“Economy settles” when most NPC’s run dry, most mobs run dry, and there are very few ways of gathering gold other than by other players. This also creates a dry and empty economy, void of any activity until the game maker decides to release a gold sink (in this case, method of spending gold to get the economy moving again).

Why will inflation be hindered?

Inflation is caused by gold/money/currency entering the market. Say 1/3 of all players run one dungeon every day. If there are 100,000 active players, that means that 33,333 players are doing a dungeon. Each of those players are getting 41s+ (final boss loot + finish loot).

Again, this is a rough sketch of inflation, as each dungeon run nets more than 41s, especially when adding in Omnomberry Bars and other whatnots.

Back to the sketch, that means that every day, 1366653s is entering the economy.
This is the equivalent of 13,666g 53s entering the economy every day.

Now, the active playerbase of GW2 is well over 100,000 and the active dungeon community is well over 33,333. They also run more than 1 dungeon a day.

If you want inflation to stop, you should address other issues than bots and market manipulation; namely gold gain versus money sinks.

Onto money sinks:

This is the only way to attack inflation. Creating systems where the player benefits from SPENDING their money in a way that prevents it from circulating. Salvage Kits are one method. Gold —> Gems are another method. TP tax is another one. They are, indeed, not enough. If you can think of a method that will keep the game intriguing, fun, unique and not break it, while combating inflation, feel free to post that here or in the suggestions section, but just complaining about inflation for the wrong reasons will get nobody anywhere.

tldr; Don’t roll Skritt when you can be Asuran. (RP and forum metaphorical joke.)
