Currently capping/holding a ruin’s node gives you basically nothing. You could argue that once you cap 3/5 ruins, you get a stat buff. But then again, stat buffs, while significant, still translates to no rewards.
There should be a comparable reward to killing a sentry and holding the point at least which is iirc, 3s, karma, exp and a loot bag(since you killed the sentry).
Currently, the node captures feel very empty and that is a sentiment shared by my whole guild.

Well obviously if you’re built to be an “evade spammer” then you’re gonna spam those evades. I also play S/D, but I’m built to be a controller with 70% condition duration and a ton of masking conditions, so I spam dancing daggers.

Lol other classes just use whatever skill comes off cooldown. That is even easier than THINKING about which skill to use next.

The problem is that PvE is too profitable.
It has broken up no blobs, I see large zergs with 3 buffs on them.
That blob would be even bigger with the people standing on the capture points.
We already understood unfairness. Not all of us are willing to play on T1, but giving buffs to high wvw population servers, aka coverage; improves the game how?

Anyways, just look at the absolutely poor ZvZ/GvG class balance to see that ANET does not care about balance in WvW whatsoever.
WvW is not supposed to be balanced. If you want balance, go play sPvP/tPvP. ANET never balances around WvW because that would be idiotic.
Go with Sword/Pistol and shortbow for PvE.

I think the change is good as it will improve thieves skill cap.
With all the L2P I see in their forum, I am pretty sure they have all the necessary skill to succeed in this new ambitious challenge.
Or maybe it will be time for them to start seeing what is L2P.
What’s the point of sticking with thief if warrior and necro is better? It’s not going to improve anyone’s skillcap, they’re just going to move to the next FotM. If they haven’t already that is.

Current meta builds:
LB/Hammer, M+SH/GS, M+SH/Hammer. (the pattern is they all use unsuspecting foe)
GS/LB is really good at trolling though especially if you play bunker with it. But I can see how effective this weapon combo can be in WvW. GS will basically give you the mobility you’ll need, and longbow would be good in zergs (to get loot bags, probably not as good as hammer as far as usefulness) and for reliable proccing of cleansing ire.
I think GS without support does lower damage than LB so in this situation you’d want to use LB for primary damage, and GS situationally since it has nice range for a melee weapon, and hundred blades is nice cleave damage.
As for combos, LB #5 → GS #2 → GS #3.

Opinions differ. Those “true thieves” you are talking about are about to be nerfed, because they’re hated more than perma stealth thieves now.
try this:
Skullcrack (w/ sigil of paralyzation) → 100b → whirlwind attack.
i think they said that they are only gonna make larcenous strike take 1 boon instead of 2 and thats it. A good ele or halfway decent mesmer can survive and kill an s/d thief. Staff mesmer DESTROY s/d thieves too. S/d thief really is nothing great 1v1 and is as good as anything else in teamfights. Everyone wants everybody else’s classes to be nerfed so they can feel good. that’s just the way it is. People need to L2P.
ya S/D thief is nothing special even in sPvP. Warrior is where it’s at. Been playing ma warrior in sPvP and it’s nice and simple and very rewarding.

S/d and d/p will both get nerfed. The question is, will the s/d nerf compensate the difference between the two builds atm in order to make a switch to d/p or we will have to play a simply put “worse s/d build”

I’ve fought a bunch of bunker warriors recently, and the only thing they seem to lack is the ability to force you off point. The fight boils down to who held the point when the fight started – if I did, the warrior is wasting their time because they can’t do enough damage to scare me offpoint. If they did, I’m wasting my time.
They can stand near the edge of the point, so if you use flanking strike you evade off the point.
A lot of people don’t realize that the main thing that makes warrior a threat in WvW is actually their mobility. I started to realize it after watching a couple of roaming videos done by M/Sh + GS builds like the ones by Gutts and Puandro.
That’s why I basically spec’d my thief to catch a warrior. When you neuter their mobility, it’s possible to overcome their regen as long as you have more than 1 person on the warrior at a time.
1v1 is probably still hard to dent their regen though. It’s probably possible, but I know 1v1 I have never been pressured to run when I’m on my bunker warrior in sPvP. It IS hard to overcome my regen in a 1v1 situation but 2v1 a warrior can’t keep up, unless they run. Which is why it is imperative to neuter their mobility.
Ofcourse the hard part is that only few classes/builds can actually neuter a warrior’s mobility.
Thief is the second weakest class at the moment. Most people just don’t want to admit that.

According to the latest leaked patch notes, S/D will only steal 1 boon now. No change to initiative cost.
endure pain doesn’t last that long.
healing signet + high armor + adrenal health + banner regen makes it very possible. and berserker stance makes you invincible to conditions for 8s. you can get stability from dolyak signet, balanced stance.
lol he got hit for that high in sPvP, is that even possible.
yup they have been overbuffed imho.they are beasts in wvw atm because of that. it sometimes takes 5 people to kill 1.the heals are too much, the cc is too much and the thing is they dont need to give up everything to do decent dmg. the got toughness,healing, big dps, mass cc, mobilty,vitality all at once. a lot of classes have to give up at least 2 of those.
all i see atm in wvw is warriors everywhere, then necros, then guardians, then eles, then thieves…..and then after a while i see a few engis, then i see 1-3 mesmers in a 50man zerg and 1 ranger a day.great balance anet!
hahaha yup. it was kinda hillarious. we were 1thief, 1 mesmer (confusion spec) and an engineer chasing a warrior on top of smc around. he had full guard leech aswell so more hp thatand power than u would get without it. he kept ccing us and killed the thief as he was semi glasscannon. so we had to call 2 morepeople to hel with him. as a mesmer that is v spec i dont have blink equiped and he was able to outrun us all the time.
and dont forget that u will see a ton of wvw players come here as anet only balances wvw around spvp only. warriors were in a good place in wvw before the buffs. now they are out of control.
go check wvw out or 1 day in a mid to high tier. all u will see is warriors and a ton of necros. mesmers in zergs are mainly support veilbots. we get no buffs because we are doing pretty ok in spvp.
i do well with my blackwater mesmer in spvp. but in wvw im stuck as a support because of anet not splitting the game modes.
yea warrior is great threat in WvW now. my thief build is spec’d just to catch a warrior so that a horror story like that doesn’t happen as long as I’m around.

The thief forum laughs because we know S/D thief is not even that good in WvW or PvE. D/P has always been the poster child for being the only complete weapon set.
The amount of QQ over this cool kit is just overwhelming.
I laugh when I encounter an S/D thief when I’m on my bunker war. I get how much it’s trying, how much it’s spamming the #3 key, but it’s just doing so little damage to me that my regen ALONE almost completely neutralizes.

it’s like you want to kill off thieves, if you’re suggesting to nerf both shadow refuge AND infiltrator strike.
i don’;t think any sort of buffs can make up for that. period.
PS this should be moved to the thief forum, as any nerfs that happen due to sPvP is pretty much global most of the time so all thieves deserve to chime in on this.
Because sPvP is filled with bunker classes that can stand toe-to-toe with a D/P thief and what happens is that you end up stealing the point from a D/P thief since it has to stealth and then you can hold it indefinately because it can’t actually force you off the point if it’s just by itself, but you can force it to run off therefore the thiekittend of didn’t do anything.
Different story if it’s an S/D thief but I guess if you stand near the edge of the circle, the thief will actually evade off the point which still gives you an edge. Either way, thieves are kind of screwed over by sPvP mechanics.
At least that’s how it feels, when you play a healing signet warrior.

It’s not about using it or not, it’s about efficiency.
If you use Dancing Dagger in a situation that isn’t slowing people down while backapping, you’re wasting initiative.
C&D is suboptimal at best, melee range, 6 ini: one of the few skills in the set requiring skill, yet not used due to being suboptimal ( tactical strike being so bad doesn’t help, either).
Yet OP suggested changes will just help condi specs, terribad at best.
Anyway, it will be moved to thief forum so who cares
It wouldn’t take a lot to make dancing dagger something worth using….TC basically just deleted it in exchange for burning!! (even though there’s no reason it can’t cripple and burn at same time)

Hey I was running this build the other night and fought a 1v1 battle with another bunker warrior (using almost the same build except he swapped the hammer for a gs). The fight went on for around 15 mins with both of our hps never dipping below 75% before he would whirlwind away to regen or I would stun him to regen. It ended when the zerg came rushing through but I was wondering on any tips for when you’re facing another bunker build?
just type /sleep and take a break. lol 2 bunkers can’t beat each other, especially if you’re both using healing signet, adrenal health, and regen banners.

Yeah, Plague. You survive for 20s, then you are dead for the rest of time.
You can’t fear a warrior. He’ll be on stability/berserker stance enough time to kill your.
Necromancers have only 3 blindness on insane cooldown. Even if you run them all, you can’t still survive to them.
Necromancers have the worse dodging capability of the game. You know that, right?
Sometime i fear 5 warriors same time even if they have stability.

You don’t have to. I roll a bunker war in sPvP without cc or condi and it’s very good. I’d say probably easiest class to play right now in sPvP.
