The problem is I usually don’t see it coming lol.. Sure sometimes it happens in 1v1, which is annoying but usually I just shrug it off… The main issue is if things go south and I try to GTFO I run, stealth, take a few more steps and all of a sudden (not looking behind me) I get PEW PEW PEW PEW KAMEEHAMEEEEEE-HAAAAAAAAAA ZERK KAPOW GRRRRRRKKK (3 or 4 ranged focus at same time while I’m still invisible) BLARGH… dead.
It IS just an odd fine line because I can totally see how stealth completely dropping the skill activation would be OP, unless it was placed on a 0 cooldown when this happens (but how that would specifically be coded I don’t know).. But on the other hand it’s just so illogical that it causes feelings of rage sometimes (sadface).
One of those things that is overall better for the rest of the world the way it is I suppose? But still disappointing when it is the sole cause of death when you could have otherwise escaped lol..
Gain some distance, and dodge roll first then go into stealth. This will dodge the channels before going into stealth which will probably work out better.
So since ascended weapons are now out, this topic is a lot more relevant.
warriors are everywhere in top 100 solo Q already. hardly uncommon.
wait it out, then go into stealth. IIRC most channels have a recharge time. the one exception I can think of off the top of my head is unload and mesmer gs AA.
the alternative is going into stealth to neutralize teh entire channel which would be OP.
GW2 has several types of class archetypes:
- Stationary classes (necro/guard)
- Rotational classes (ele/ranger)
- Hit and decoy classes (thief/mes)
- Fast-paced mobile classes (warrior)
- RNG/mid-range classes (engis)Out of all these only Warrior really fits my style.
I like adrenalinic combat that requires quick-thinking and positioning.
Thief can fill a couple of these archetypes.
- Stationary classes (necro/guard, S/P thief)
- Rotational classes (ele/engis)
- Hit and decoy classes (mes, D/D thief, D/P thief, P/D thief)
- Fast-paced mobile classes (warrior, S/D thief, shortbow thief)
- RNG/mid-range classes (shortbow thief, P/P thief)
- long range/pet class (ranger)
It should be able to be sold on the trading post so other people who don’t want to bother with the boring crafting can get ascended weapons too.

We’re being very mindful about the way the Sigil of Para fix will hit Warriors. We’ve already got another balance patch brewing, and we’re being very careful to watch all the classes and see how they feel after we shave down the condition spam classes slightly.
As others have said, once we bring down the conditions that “hold down” some of the physical based classes, they will feel stronger. We’re aware of that!

I still don’t understand what you guys did to healing signet. It went from never used to always used. It’s overtuned. Please monitor statistics on how often healing signet is used. I imagine this number will only increase.
I also don’t understand why you want to nerf S/D thief when warrior is obviously more OP. The meta is changing. S/D thieves are super overrated. War is STILL underrated. War is a beast now, and will be most OP after necro and ranger bite the dust.
From what I noticed, Thieves are getting better at tracking the real Mesmer and that leaves a very bad taste fro the profession. One of the main reason why is because the clone doesn’t carry an off-hand weapon, so this was added stealthily in this patch —-

You need to look at your build or gameplay, because for the longest time mesmer is considered a counter to S/D thief. Maybe it’s just the nerfs beginning to pile up for your class, but S/D thief is not a counter for mesmer.
I can agree with S/D counters boon-reliant classes, as it was intended.

I’m not trolling. The verdict on the thief forums thus far is that we counter shatter and confusion mesmer, but phantasm mesmer counter S/D. So it’s 50/50, and we kinda counter each other.

He basically said I’m trolling him when I informed him there are builds available to them so that S/D thief is not a counter to mesmer. I dunno what to say, I’m not sure if the meta really shifted that much in recent times.
I’ve been reading a lot of posts from certain individuals in the sPvP forums that seems to suggest we hard counter mesmer, and elementalist and essentially removed them from the metagame.

Can someone inform me how we hard counter a mesmer? Last time I checked, mesmer was still top dueling class. Are they really this bad now to easily get rolled by an S/D thief now? I find this hard to believe seeing as I just recently ran into a roaming mesmer and between the 3-4 of us we could not track this mesmer and kill him and I was on my S/D and played aggressively.

Hard to say cuz perplexity runes are so cheap right now it actually seems like perplexity is the best profession but I’d guess it’d be between mesmer, and warrior atm.
The only stupid OP spec left is S/D thief IMO. Necros have to have Plague up to be able to survive a Warrior fight if they bring greedy utilities. If they don’t bring greedy utilities they can’t Spite-Epi or Corrupt Boon-Epi, which cuts into their pressure.
S/D thief still eliminates Mesmer and Ele from competitive play. Necro doesn’t have that effect.
It’s not OP. Condi spam and AoE spam shuts S/D thief down hard. Besides last time I checked mesmer was still the top dueling class. Just because you don’t want to use a build that counters S/D thief does not make them OP at all.

Also good points about making sure that we don’t take away the things “holding down” some of the strong builds. I think Mes and Ele are probably ok for the most part, as long as we tone down the conditions output from some classes, and bring the S/D Thief in line.

Veteran Aetherblade thug’s battle standard. Didn’t really do that much damage…but there were like 4-5 other aestherblades so I ended up getting 1 shot from the cumulative damage lol.
On the other hand this was in Mount Maelstrom.

Mobs are ranked from normal(no rim) -> veteran(bronze rim) -> no name(silver rim) -> champion(gold rim) -> legendary(purple rim). The silver ones are the same as the ones you typically encounter in dungeons. Unlike veterans and champions they do not get any prefix.

The problem there is Auto-Attack was originally S/D’s main damage dealer, so now they’ve brought up Larcenous Strike, would you rather just deal top tier damage, or deal top tier damage while evading and stealing boons for some light init management?
LS is now overall better then AA offensively, so why AA when there’s a better option?
I rather use auto attack unless necessary because I need to save the initiative for when FS/LS makes sense or for removing conditions with infil strike/shadow return.
I also use dancing dagger a lot, all these skills need initiative so wasting it on FS/LS when its utility is not needed makes no sense to me.
I don’t know why everyone takes Helseth opinion so seriously, he’s suggesting that the evasion component of flanking strike to be completely removed…

S/D has flanking strikes
S/P has pistol whip
P/P doesn’t have anything but then it’s P/P we’re talking about
D/P has shadow shot not an evasion but it blinds. so it’s an evasion in a way
Almost every single one of our dual sets have an evasion in the dual slot except for P/P.
Nevermind that evasion is required to survive as a thief. We’re not war with 20k base HP and heavy armor.

S/D does not have high burst at all. FS/LS does about the same damage as auto attack.
I found myself laughing at this part though.
Basically s/d right now does too much of everything. It has high burst, very high sustainable damage And is very difficult to kill.

Yea it’s because everyone knows Necro, Warrior, and spirit rangers are gonna be nerfed in the next balance patch and to lump in S/D thieves with those 3 is bad bad news, especially considering it’s in the sPvP forums.
In that topic, OP lists possibly the 4 best classes for sPvP right now. basically rangers, warriors, necros, but for thief specially targets S/D oh god.

I’m surprised neither Caed or Lady Nag Nag ran a condition caltrops thief as a hard counter to the guardian point bunkering. Maybe I run a different build than everyone else, but when Team Legacy was still together we kicked kitten with a 2/1/2 setup with thief holding center, built to fight and survive against multiple opponents. The NA bunker meta melts when confronted with heavy condition damage, despite the WvW meta being pure conditions.
That would’ve been an option if thief conditions were more effective. As you said, it would’ve been a nice counter for those bunkers. But, that’s about it. Thief Condi builds aren’t really made for the teams fights that they had.
When I participated in the Class Tournament (5Thieves), we had an excellent bunker thief who ran a d/d-d/d caltrops evade build that held mid quite well. That could be a possibility for us whith more changes to come to thief condi, according to Anet.

shadow return + Hide in shadows is enough condition removal for the most part. Perplexity runes are just OP and probably will be nerfed.
I’ve been playing a build that doesn’t rely on stealth since before larcenous strike was buffed and it’s a lot of fun.
serpern’s touch is also steal related
i know exposed weakness is awesome, it was just an example maybe not the best.
swapping thrill of the crime to DA would make DA more desirable, while it wouldnt hurt trickery too much as most prefer trickery for condi builts. only the first 15 points are act. usefull for burst setups.
DA is for bursting, as it gives power. mug is no longer good for bursts, its for sustained dmg. thrill of the crime would be a better adept trait in DA.
if you run a burst setup you dont need poison on steal, cuz 1. you have low cond dmg 2.you dont want to give the enemy time to heal. so 3 ini on steal/preparedness would be better = 1 more hs / fs /whatever. en plus, condition builts do not need much iniative in a short time, unlike burst builds.
and cond builts may want some more poison, serpent’s touch, perhaps venom traits into trickery….and so on
would be a win/win situation
Lol DA is just the generic DPS branch. It’s not necessarily only for burst builds. I don’t know if there any more burst builds anyways I think they’re dead.
Poison is better than power/fury/swiftness imo since it neutralizes healing by 33% which is actually gonna be better than the little added damage from thrill of the crime. The goal is to take out the character in the first 14 seconds and serpent’s touch accomplishes this with poison uptime.
Mug may no longer be good for bursting, but it’s still one of the best DA traits.
I dunno if burst builds invest in DA but aren’t burst builds dead anyways?
I use DA for control due to the stat combo of power/condition duration which is the best stat combo imo. Combined with super veggie pizza you can get up to 70% condition duration which is actually really useful considering the traits you can get in DA and is good for neutralizing annoying characters that try to disengage when low HP.
Any of those traits you suggested for trait are pretty bad and not suitable for this stat combination imo. If anything I think DA needs more poison and weakness uptime. Add in poison on crit trait, and remove lotus poison icd and perhaps buff serpent’s touch to include torment that would make DA a lot more effective as the DPS/control tree.
Replace power/condition damage from DA/Trickery
this would be nice…but very op (and no class has cond duration/cond dmg in one trait)
and improvisation is very bad…its from betas, where stolen weapons were bundles (whirling axe). now its just those sticks or rusty weapons that u can collect in pve.
i think it would be enough if they would swap some traits/minors etc. from DA to trickery and vice versa.
example:
-Serpent’s Touch , smells like a nice trickery minor
-Exposed Weakness , also more trickeryand i would really love kleptomanic/preparedness/thrill of the crime on DA…just for the power this line gives
Serpent’s touch and exposed weakness are way better than kleptomaniac/preparedness/thrill of the crime. Lead attacks is fairly decent though, but still not as good as exposed weakness. Besides, buffing stealing is the the theme for trickery, and putting steal related traits in DA makes no sense at all.

I hope sigils are interchangeable, because I use different sigils for PvE and PvP, it’s gonna drive me nuts to reapply a different sigil everytime I want to switch modes besides the fact that that’s not even viable since sigils are too expensive to keep switching.
Yea, I have 2 swords, 3 daggers, 3 pistols, and a shortbow, all for different sigils… gonna take me months to replace them

Don’t need to go into stealth at low levels with no traits to support it.
But if you just want to fool around then, D/P or x/D.
5→2 with D/P and 5 with x/D.

Can’t you still generate the weakness by simply following the poison field with the blast attack on 2?
That would potentially overwrite other, possibly better combo fields. Not to mention that the 4->2 combo is easily evaded whereas the poison + weakness from lotus poison is essentially unavoidable and is instant.

Poison on crit for Deadly arts grandmasters. Move panic strike to masters. If lotus poison icd is removed at the same time, this will make Deadly Arts a formidable tree.
You would take Mug, Panic Strike, and new trait ‘Deadly Venoms’.
Minor trait Lotus Poison would allow you to weaken and poison with all your attacks, Exposed weakness 10% more damage with a condition but you’ll always have multiple conditions on the enemy, and then serpent’s touch with 10s torment and poison (more like 14s since this is the condition duration tree) would seal the deal.
