My mesmer is wearing a sword, can he get heavy armor, too?
no.
Inspired by this topic:

Why the thief should be given heavy armor:
1) Primarily a melee class, but has the lowest health.
2) Free the slot open for a medium-class dervish, without disrupting the grid
3) Engie is ranged, so doesn’t really need the heavy armor
4) We would no longer get PvE prejudice and could get in on all the ‘heavy armor’ only PuGs
5) more useful in ZvZ, GvG, PvE due to being made more durable
6) Wouldn’t need to rely on perma-stealth abuse as much or at all and therefore reduce the hate
+1 this post if you want the devs to consider this proposal.
we need a trait to make it 1500 range also..but
I’d rather want 1500 range shuriken to feel like a real ninja
That would cause some kittening. If there was a damage dropoff at that range then maybe it could be put in.
no damage drop off needed, we’re like assassins we should be good at long range attacks. oh and do warriors suffer damage drop off at 1500 range? No right? So why should we? Come on we’re assassins. We should do the most burst.

Definately the warrior. It has higher armor higher health deals more damage. Overall better character and gets buffed every patch whereas the thief gets nerfed every patch.
Warrior is the easy mode in this game, only use a thief if you’re a masochist.

P/D and the trait for blind on stealth.
I also am tired of these DPS races as well. The game keeps encouraging one build and one build only. It is not fun nor does it encourage players from playing anything other than a pure DPS build. I loved the Aetherblade dungeon, I loved Molten Facility, but this event, I hated. I completed it, but I had to resort to the pure DPS mechanic yet again, which 90%+ of the PvE content encourages.
Molten Facility was excellent because of the uniqueness of the bosses and required teamwork, not just DPS.
Aetherblade actually promoted other builds other than zerker, but even one of the achievements was totally tied into pure DPS parties to obtain it in the non cheese manner.
Can we please have challenges that allow for other builds to shine? Thanks.
The annoying part was that pre-patch I did it easily with soldier/valkyrie/berserker build with basically 100% success rate, and it was pretty easy. But after the patch you’re forced to go berserker or close to it. The build diversity was there, but they ruined it.
Personally on my warrior I have something like -94% cripple/chill/immobilize duration, just saying.
why not 97%? but yea 90%+ condi reduction is pretty common nowadays for a warrior. really gotta spam the cripples.
I’m not saying it’s easy to catch a warrior. It’s not easy for sure.
(edited by Excalibur.9748)
it seems like the constant QQ of the warrior forum is working though, as they get buffed every patch while we get nerfed every patch.
Dagger 4.
it’s a given that you need to spam dagger 4 along with all the other mobility stuff to even have a chance of catching a roaming warrior.
It should also be given that heartseeker is also a great gap closer. In which case, using both and then covering the enemy in caltrops would make it very hard for them to flee without taking more damage first.
that’s if you use D/D. I use S/D so I don’t have heartseeker, however the sword AA cripples if I can land it.
why hate sword/dagger?
i agree it is a bit broke. actually i would say that it is more broke post-patch than pre-patch just because of how annoying it is now. (you can tell how annoying it based on the instructions in OP post)
warrior is just too op for PvE also. i can totally see how the 1500 range helps here. berserker gear is also op as well.
personally this is how I chose the berserker amulet over the soldier amulet (no complicated maths).
I just used the berserker amulet and killed some dummies, then swapped to soldier amulet and killed some dummies. what i found that i had an easier time killing them with the berserker amulet, despite the lower defenses. So I concluded that for MY build, berserker amulet is better.
i think choice of amulet depends on your build.
sigil of earth is 2s icd, 5s duration
heartseeker can be used in place of a shortbow 900 range teleport as a movement skill, in fact since its a leap with the swiftness on dodge it’ll go farther than 1800+.
heartseeker does have more uses than being spammed on a full health warrior.
if some warrior is really giving you that much trouble then leave him and go find something slow like a mesmer or ele, you should have no trouble catching someone when their only movement skill is stuck on a 40 second CD thanks to all the QQ.
it’s not really an option to ignore warriors when roaming warriors are increasing by the day. and this is to make it easier, I didn’t say I didn’t catch any :P
Overall, I caught all my warriors in the last couple of days.
every class has their own role… it is just that no particular build/class can beat all builds and class, when u say 1 on 1 yea its not balance though, but anet didn’t built this game for 1 on 1 purpose
colox is right abuot this. but there are builds that “CAN” beat every other build. mesmer has some …thief has some….engie has some.
so what happens when you put a “build that can beat every other build” vs another “build that can beat every other build”?
Are you guys joking? Warrior is a baseline class. It means it’ll always be the weakest class in PvP because it’s what ANet uses to balance every other class off of. Thieves aren’t in a bad position. We’re right up there with guardians when it comes to survivability. Just because you die to X class doesn’t make it overpowered. It means that you as a player need to utilize your class in a smarter fashion or spec for more survivability in order to overcome situations you repeatedly fail. I haven’t lost a 1v1 to a warrior in months. If you want my analysis of the classes it goes as follows:
- Guardian
- Mesmer
- Engineer
- Thief
- Ranger
- Necro
- Elementalist
- Warrior
These are based on recent buffs and nerfs from each class and the overall community standing.
If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all.
well not everything revolves around sPvP and roaming which is where ANET always balances professions around…
Thief is the worst class for PvE, ZvZ, GvG. overall worst class.
(edited by Excalibur.9748)
it’s not. warrior and guardian are overpowered. thief is the worst class or just about. if it wasn’t for stealth ANET could just delete this class.
Buddy, thief are the most mobile proffesion in the game, even without swiftness. if you cant catch a warrior you are a bad thief.
simply catching up is useless. you need to keep them in melee distance after blowing your gap closer(s) to get the kill.
j/w….
If I had perma swiftness, I could catch warriors a lot easier xD
no you couldnt. srry not being mean…but you cant :P …. your only chance is CCing if u get it off early…if not just wave goodbye.
obviously you have to spam CC. but it’s a lot easier if you have perma swiftness along with the cripple spam. it was hilarious when i had 40% movement speed (kite fortune -but probably 33% if it doesn’t break the 33% cap) and spamming dagger 4 and sword AA, the warrior couldn’t really move away from me at all.

Dagger 4.
it’s a given that you need to spam dagger 4 along with all the other mobility stuff to even have a chance of catching a roaming warrior.
P/P is pretty bad imo:
1) nothing to offer for siege warfare….compared to shortbow’s cluster bomb.
2) No defense…pure offense…. lacking shortbow’s infiltrator arrow, evade shot.
3) offense sucks because it’s single target….shortbow gets AoE auto and AoE cluster bombs
4) prone to retaliation, which is a very common boon when it comes to organized zergs…you would just kill yourself. any versatile build would not get hard countered
5) skills cost too much initiative…using initiative for the majority of your damage can get you killed
(edited by Excalibur.9748)
forgot to mention, i already got swiftness on dodge and 3 teleports in my build and signet of shadows. more movement speed is always nice, though.
I’d probably use dancing daggers if it wasn’t slower than my grandma. Multiple times you try to use it for actually catching someone, and it can’t even catch them, so how are you supposed to with the cripple that never lands.
Body shot I like now, the duration is just too short to let me get full use out of it. 3s vulnerability? Can barely do anything in that window.
you use the gap closers to close the gap…then you spam DD and never let him out of its effective range which is indeed a lot shorter than 900 since you need to take into account projectile speed.
j/w….
If I had perma swiftness, I could catch warriors a lot easier xD
I really didn’t like the initiative reduction on Dancing Dagger. The skill needs a somewhat faster projectile and more damage for general usage; without it the skill simply cannot compete with using gap closers.
Cheaper initiative costs just strengthen the perma-cripple abuse case in WvW, which is not where the skill needs power.
cripple spam is the only thing that can catch a roaming warrior, don’t hate.
I use doubletap because why not?
I wonder if they changed it again, I didn’t see any timed mobs spawning in your stream just now. Gonna test when I get back home.
I had guides posted on how to do it the “exploit way” and the “non exploit way”
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Guide-for-candidate-trials-challenge/first#post2500525
Neither of them work now because they added timed mobs (mobs that spawn after a certain period of time) which are closer and have bigger aggro ranges and don’t break aggro as easily
i don’t see what’s so good about it.
It’s not easy, i wasted some significant time trying to solo it yesterday. I don’t want to be too quick to say it’s impossible (at least for solo), but it might be.
I can’t tell if you are being serious or not…but when they say solo, what they mean is solo by the spawn points. They don’t kill anything but the plunderers.
I know….. I have guides posted on how to solo it on T4 with 2 different methods:
They buffed it yesterday and NOW I think it’s very hard-impossible. Not sure if still possible to solo.

retaliation doesn’t affect my build at all. but yes it’s frequently complained about.
Exciting match. Can anyone fill me in on what happened to SoR btw? Noticed it didn’t do too well last week. Any reasons?
Withdraw can also move torment. The theme with withdraw is it removes conditions that impair your movement. So either fear or torment.
i see. we are assuming it does. so instead of plz fix….. “can you plz modify HIS to include torment as it sort of insists that all dmging conditions are removed”.
i agree but just didnt know if it was stated. everyone makes it sound like its stated.
withdraw would have to remove another condition then too…..what should it be?
maybe fear.
u would rather use that then spend the extra init on headshot for the stun to stop them from using the heal/swiftness gainer as they flee? :P
you don’t have headshot on S/D set lol. does headshot really have a stun? I thought it’s an interrupt + daze.
edit: apparently it immobilizes NPCs as well.
(edited by Excalibur.9748)
it would be nice if it was 2init, but i feel it is pretty useful right now. i’d rather the damage be upped or have it hit more reliably. it misses a lot on fleeing targets.
Yes please fix it…hide in shadows should have it.
whos going to spend 4 init on DD that misses alot at ranged distance. :p id rather use nothing and give up than let myself be low on init and him know that.
it’s 3 ini now. tho yea obviously you don’t want to put yourself in a position to get counterattacked.
Infiltrator strike can not be spammed…dancing daggers can be. Infil strike + dancing daggers together is a lot more effective at catching someone.
(edited by Excalibur.9748)
it’s not really random, if you don’t kill the third plunderer…the right side will never spawn. look at my guide for how to reproduce:
http://www.twitch.tv/sakraycore/c/2636414
how does it work now with all the S/D nerfs?
I have 35/3 and it seems to be sufficient for WvW.
IMO the problem with this challenge is that you can just camp the starting/returning position of the plunderers and burst them down while you ignore pretty much everything else.
Even if there was 5x as many mobs I don’t see why that would matter since you can pretty much ignore all of them. Couple that with the bug of sometimes no plunderers spawning on the right side, and you have an otherwise hard-impossible challenge becoming easy-mode.
not too worried about damage atm. i wish they could revert some of the nerfs that we didn’t deserve…
for example, fix the shadowstep pathing (revert to original pathing), revert range reduction on cluster bomb, revert lotus poison nerf, and revert the stunbreak removal on shadow return.
but if they won’t fix any of those which I think are more important, then yea i’ll take some increased damage on sword and shortbow.
I’ve been trying to work on that getting zerged out of the blue. I generally pop daggerstorm now then cancel it immediately then roll then spam infiltrator arrow. [In this situation shadow refuge = insta death, popping hide in shadows doesn’t help at all since you still get rolled by the enemy zerg despite stealthed, and not cancelling dagger storm = you get rolled by the enemy zerg albeit slowly since you move too slow] Usually works if I’m at tail end of the zerg that is about to get rolled by the opposing bigger zerg. The enemy usually moves not too fast, but what hurts is stacking multiple CC effects on you which renders you helpless. Stability definately works to overcome it.
But yes I agree that I roam freely without much worry. For the most part, I don’t die if I don’t overextend.
Thieves mobility is ridiculously high. We can be from one place to another so fast its crazy. One of the main reasons i made this class xD
I made a thief because I like the initiative system which allows me to use whatever skill I want, provided I have the initiative. Cooldown system is so 10 years ago. If I want to spam a skill…I’ll spam it. Apparently some people are trying to nerf our unique class mechanic and the reason for choosing the class.
Thief mobility though is obviously the other highlight of this classs… I really like it. I can’t use dagger setups because infil strike is too fun and too much mobility in combination with infiltrator signet and steal. One of my favorite things to do is to chain 3 shadowsteps and burst (kinda…sword can’t really burst) down a target, then return to the zerg to continue the WXP farming. Or just chain 3 shadow steps then spam cripple so the target can’t get away from the zerg at all. Some classes (basically warrior) are getting harder to catch these days tho but it’s still pretty good.
(edited by Excalibur.9748)
I like how warriors got the most buffs this patch.
Like every patch
Warrior is ANET’s favorite class, will always be the most OP.
