Most probably the Tyrannus. They did used to exist along the coast of the Maguuma Jungle. So it’s quite plausible.
It’s worth pointing out that iMacs also use laptop GPU’s, so they also get the crazy fans.
@Herp
We’re done killing dragons. It does no good. They just get replaced with new ones. We have to find a different way to deal with them.
Well no. Technically we still need to kill them. We just need to find something to take their place (or at least that is the popular theory).
I don’t see what else we could do other than killing them. Forcing them to sleep just means someone else is going to have to deal with them in a couple thousand years time.
They’re Nightmare Court, before the Nightmare Court were established… Basically…
The Firstborn were already guiding the Secondborn… this chapter doesn’t contradict that. In fact you can talk to one of the firstborn and he will tell you he is getting overwhelmed at trying to help all of the new Sylvair interpret their dreams. The meeting between the firstborn is them trying to figure out how much to aide them and whether or not it’s a good idea. It doesn’t mean they hadn’t been doing anything whatsoever.
(Though I still think the whole Scarlet plot line is a kittenstorm and yeah…)
Guild Wars 1 had alliances (the guild I was in had 5 other guilds in our alliance) and you could use alliance chat instead of guild chat (and most people did). GW2 sort of got rid of those because there was no longer a 100 user cap on guilds. So yeah… Might be nice, but don’t think they will do it.
I read it too but I thought it just meant Majory was learning battle stances, not necessarily how to wield a gs.
Marjory specifically stated it was sword practice, so yea.
“She [Rox] learned when she was in school, and she knows a ton about battle stances. I’m learning a lot. I plan to keep at it.”
The English language permits a reading in which Majory is helping Rox with Rox’s sword skills while learning battle stances herself. A stretch? Maybe. But not out of the question.
But we’ve seen Marjory using the sword all through the previous release, including watching her attacking the dummies in the Pact base in the Silverwastes. Sure you could read it as a syntactical ambiguity, but the visual evidence points to it being exactly how most people are interpreting it: She’s using a GS now and she’s learning how to use it from Rox.
I realize I should have included suggestions. But I think it’s mostly self evident. The past releases have all been relatively well done. The existing content is all relatively well done. It’s just specifically in this release that they’re opted not to do certain things (e.g. the challenge motes that allow you to reset an instance), or added certain things (requiring 2 bladder pieces effectively meaning each breach champion has to be defeated at least twice but probably more because it is RNG) that have left me viewing this LS release in a really unfavourable light.
Unfortunately I’ve found myself not really enjoying this latest release of the LS. I thought I’d break it down in the off chance that it might be of interest to anyone. I’m going to try really hard to be constructive, but apologize if it comes off as complaint-based.
The New Carapace and Luminescent armour pieces:
I would think that most people would agree with me here, having to repeat these breach events over and over again is getting tiring. The breach event is the crux of the Silverwates, it’s evidently supposed to be the main attraction and it’s designed to be content that required large-scale coordination and effort. The problem is we’ve been doing it for the last couple of weeks to get the pieces for the gloves and shoulders, and now we’re having to do it again. It’s somewhat worse this time, if you want the luminescent leggings then you need TWO bladders for each. That’s a whole lot of RNG and a whole lot of time you have to dedicate.
Now I want to take a second to address the idea that ‘you don’t have to do it right now if you don’t want to’. Generally that’s a great rule to follow in GW2. But the breach events require a lot of people and as time goes on fewer and fewer people are going to be participating. That means that as time goes on it is going to get harder and harder for people to obtain the parts needed for luminescent armour – I think that’s a huge problem. The ability to acquire things shouldn’t be dependent on players completing events asap before it gets progressively more difficult to get them.
The Jumping puzzle:
I love JP’s, I live for them. I’ve completed every single JP in the game and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed most of them. This one however, not so much. There is very little in the way of direction: I’m not saying requiring players to do a little bit of trial and error is a problem, but when you can end up in areas that mean you need to start from the beginning (or pay a fee to regain some progress… Which I also have a problem with) it stops being about investigating and figuring out how to do it, and starts just being frustrating.
If you look at some of the best JP’s in the game, they aren’t necessarily hard to do. Most, if not all, existing JP’s have a clear path to follow. It’s not the difficulty that makes them enjoyable, it’s the sense of accomplishment and the awesome view. As it stands most people just end up going to dulfy or some other guide because the JP doesn’t clearly set out how it should be done. When your players are just using guides for content that’s a problem.
The gold coins:
Similar problem with the gold coins. Asking me to put a little bit of thought into it is fine, asking me to be careful about my jumps is also fine. Placing coins in very hard to reach places where if you fail the jump you have to WP and try again is just frustrating. There’s a coin that has to be accessed by falling off the upside down boat onto a thin piece of rope which you then have to walk up (and it’s far too easy to fall off even if you’re being careful) is not fun. The fact that even if you manage to drop onto the rope, even if you manage to walk up the rope, you still have to make some more precarious jumps is not fun.
The story achievements:
I don’t want to write a lot about these… The challenge motes that allowed you to reset things should have been included in this chapter. I think there have been enough forum posts about people complain that they have to sit through dialogue over and over again… Being forced into using skills that you’re not used to (and that require a play style that you aren’t used to) can be frustrating. But for the most part the thing that really kills the fun of these achievements for me is the fact that if I fail I have to restart the entire instance. It’s a lengthy process, one that does not encourage people to attempt things more than once.
So yeah… That was probably not constructive at all.

Dungeons aren’t really the main end game, most people don’t run them and Anet seems to have given up on improving them or releasing new ones :/
They’ve been setting it up over the past couple of LS releases and it really does suggest that they’re going to open up alternate weapons for the professions.
At the very least Necros are getting GS’s… But I’m sure they’ll let each profession use a weapon they couldnt before.
The other possibility is that Marjory’s profession is going to change. I think it’s less likely, but it is possible. (And before someone says it doesnt make sense, it is possible and has happened in the lore of the game before.)
The Afflicted were, I believe, completely wiped out during Winds of Change (which was why we had to do the awful awful vanquishing of every single area with tons of afflicted).
I’m sorry but what task bar notifications? I don’t get any O_o
Yeah, I love JP’s but this felt very very barren. A couple of junk mobs would help with that. There’s no reason for the whole map to be swarming with Mordrem and not have them anywhere else?
No thanks.
15Charr
Yeah I didn’t really like it either.
I kept thinking “why on earth would I be attacking these centaurs” and then remembering that I was Caithe… And then continuing to question it because there is absolutely no motivation for Caithe to do that or blindly follow what Faolin is doing/saying.
It just came across and really poorly thought out and not a whole lot of fun to witness…
Episodic content in video games can work great. But it’s far far better suited to smaller games, especially of the mobile variety e.g. The Wolf Among Us.
In an MMO it doesn’t make sense.
I agree with Errant, we live in the world of instant access and binge consumption (nothing wrong with that, it’s a perfectly valid way to watch a series). Episodic releases in GW2 just get annoying.
For a while I was playing GW1 from an external hard drive and the only difference was it loaded slightly slower and I had to go into the folder instead of having a shortcut on the desktop.
I can’t see any reason GW2 would be any different.
It’s not different, but GW2 is a much bigger game so the difference in loading times would be a lot more noticeable obviously.
You should be restarting your computer regularly anyway…
Yeah, pretty sure you can already do it. GW2 only needs a couple of files to run: the .exe the .dat and the folder for the trading post browser. USB file transfer rates tend to not be super amazing though, so you’re severely hampering the games performance. I really don’t understand the point.
Get rid of them.
I trashed mine a month or so ago. It was pretty clear after the last Wintersday that there was no plan on giving out any more of the materials required for them. They’re unlikely to do so since they want people to purchase them from the gemstore. :/
Have they ever actually confirmed that? I keep hearing people saying that, but I have never actually seen a confirmation for it.
It doesn’t really make much sense either, especially since we know that several of the releases did take much less than the two (or four) weeks they were available, not to mention the time between Season 1 and 2 and the mid-season break of S2. It is very unlikely that it was several months between the attack on the Grove and us going into the Silverwastes after all.
Another thing to keep in mind is the fact that maps could (and in most cases are) locked in time.
It was confirmed in an interview in which a staff member (probably Angel…) said that an Asuran scientist/astronomer/whatever recently discovered that everyone had been wrong and that Tyria actually has the same number of days as Earth… What a coincidence…
How much space does your harddrive have left? This isn’t likely to be a problem with the GW2 installer, but rather with your computer (I’ve had similar issues where it’s told me there isn’t enough space to create a bootcamp partition when there is more than enough).
My first suggestion would be to repair the permissions on your computer. Which can be done in the Disk Utilities app.
The fans are running fast because they need to in order to cool down the computer. It’s relatively the same if you run it on the same hardware in bootcamp.
Interracial would be Canthans and Krytans, but both would still be human. You are thinking of different species mating and that can’t happen. Why do I say that? Because there isn’t a single example of it happening in any of the games and there is no lore for it. If it had ever happened it would have been detailed.
Actually you’re wrong. Canthans and Krytans aren’t of a different ‘race’. People use the word ‘race’ rather incorrectly to refer to a mix of apparent physical differences and ethnicity. Canthans and Krytans are of different ethnicities, but they are the same race – they’re both humans. There is only the human race… The Charr are a race, the Sylvari are a race, etc.
How about comparing the patterns of the Bloodstones (the glowy lines when the chosen were executed in the Wilds mission) and the patterns of this new door? Do you think they are similar? The stylistics of the bloodstone lines look a bit similar to the lines behind the cobra heads on the door, dont they?
I was ready to disagree but the design of the column of symbols behind the Cobra is actually similar to the winding designs around the bloodstone. I don’t know if it is intentional, but they certainly look a little similar.
Can I point out that once again the last dev response in this forums from Lacey (or anyone else for that matter) was one month ago… It’s not like people have stopped having issues with the client!
D: that’s really weird. The client definitely shouldn’t be that small, and it definitely shouldn’t have been a 33GB download.
But it’s great that you’re enjoying the game!
The thing though, people don’t play activities (well that’s not to say that nobody does, but the majority of the playerbase don’t touch them, which is part of the reason Arenanet lets the existing activities sit there with tons of bugs).
I think this is probably far too complex to implement. Going off what’s been said about Sylvari design, glow patterns seem to be quite hard to work in. When you factor in that the glow would have to be working across what the game registers as different materials, and do this in varying patterns/sizes/etc, I get the feeling it would be prettty complex. Having specific armours the glow probably isn’t too difficult, but making a dye channel that will work on all existing armours and glow is probably too hard
@Canakun, there have been and continue to be organisations in the real world that are just as anti-women as the groups we encounter in GW2. And that’s the point: it’s not ok and Arenanet is pointing out how ridiculous it is.
In regards to male homosexual couples. Yeah we need more in game, though there is a couple that you can encounter at the very beginning of the Sylvari storyline. As it stands we have 2 lesbian couples and 1 gay couple. We need more of both, not less of one and more of the other.
And how on earth is there no such thing as male privilege. Western society is patriarchal. Men are paid more than women. Men are not faulted for their sexuality. I could continue that list for a very long time. Gender inequality is indisputable.
As an LGTBQ male you’re the member of a marginalized group in society (as am I). You would think that as someone who is actively marginalized you would be able to recognize when other groups are marginalized – for example women – rather than partaking in that marginalization yourself.

And that’s absolutely fine as long as you accept complete responsibility for any risk incurred. There’s no guarantee that the person you do the trade with is actually going to send you the money afterwards.
If you are talking about RL money, then it’s out of the question. Once something of RL value is involved, or once you start doing “business” kind of transactions, then it’s strictly prohibited. You are probably safe as long as it is just favour for favour exchange between friends – but, as other people pointed out, you’d be on your own here in case something goes wrong. And of course sometimes it would be hard for Anet to differentiate between favour exchange and business.
I’m talking about in game money, not real life money. GW1 and 2 and separate games, there is no system in game that facilitates the trade of an object from one game for money in the other. If you choose to do that kind of trade you’re going against the ToS, and you’re putting yourself at risk. The person you send the items to is under no obligation to send money in return and Arenanet is not going to help you out if you get scammed by them (or you scam them) because you’re going against the ToS and doing something you are specifically not meant to do.
Between friends of course its fine, but you don’t exactly expect to get scammed by a friend so there’s not really a risk factor involved and it’s no different to just exchanging gifts between friends.
Scarabs, perhaps?
I second the Scarabs vote. That’s what I immediately thought when I saw it, it wasn’t until someone suggested Aloe’s on the forums that I realised that could also be a possibility.
@cureforliving, any resemblance it has to existing creatures in game is purely because Anet reuses models whenever they can to save resources. So the model is likely based off the model of either destroyer crabs or karka.
They’re either Aloes or Scarabs. Either of which I would be very very excited to see. Though they’re most likely using the Karka model and animations.
You can’t objectively argue with subjective points of view.
Lets not get into that though because even ‘objectivity’ is a tenuous term. An objectivity has to be based on something, it does not stand completely on its own; it’s at least partially subjective. So yeah, really lets not go there.
I don’t see why not.
Technically speaking, there is no cross-game trading. It’s a player/player agreement, and that’s a part of our private life that’s none of Anet’s business.
Instead of a trade, look at it this way:
GW1 player (A) gives other GW1 player (B) stuff for free = not illegal.
GW2 player (B) now gives other GW2 player (A) stuff for free = also not illegal.
Trade complete. There was no trade. Just two people giving items for free. And regardless of whether it’s legal or not, if you don’t advertise it, no one will ever find out.
And that’s absolutely fine as long as you accept complete responsibility for any risk incurred. There’s no guarantee that the person you do the trade with is actually going to send you the money afterwards. And if they choose not to, there’s nothing you can do about it because you’re doing it outside of the services provided in game for trading and you are going against the ToS. If you go crying to anet they’re just as likely to suspend you and do absolutely nothing to the other person (which is fair enough)
There is no bias towards female characters. It might appear that way, but only because you’re not used to seeing an equal balance of female characters in video games. So suddenly when we do have a more equal portrayal it appears imbalanced to some people.
There have been extensive psychological studies that have shown that mens ideas of balance between sexes are actually incredibly imbalanced. If a man and woman are both given equal speaking time, most men will still perceive the woman as having talked for longer. The fact that you think the portrayal is imbalanced actually speaks to how poorly women are represented in video games. I don’t even understand why this thread exists and you clearly have no conception of what misandry is, all the while you’re being a misogynist.
Is she responsible for creating all that living story story stuff? Its could be explanation why we must again and again fight all those plants and dealing with sylvari and all this girl style stuff:-)
“girl style stuff” is not something that exists. But thanks for being completely un-constructive and sexist.
I also thought that the pillars with hooded humans were of Elonian origin.
D: It’s possible. But that could just be a persnal mantra. Or he could consider his stone-state death?
You’re probably not going to get an official list of these changes other than what’s already available to players through knowledge of beta, headstart, and previous dev videos/blogs.
Yea, it was more out of curiosity. I would love to hear the devs talk about how they have evolved the classes. Its interesting to see what ideas were scrapped, and was hoping to hear why they chose to do so. I am not looking to complain about how the classes are, but more to learn about their design process. I am sure they had a lot of interesting concepts for class mechanics, and even tested a few. I just wonder what made them settle on what they did.
I think it would make an AWESOME stream sometime, like with a super-casual atmosphere, where they get a chance to talk about how they, say, took Warriors from concept to the release form.
Oh no, I absolutely agree with you. I find learning how things were and what has changed incredibly interesting! I just don’t think it’s going to happen :/
Exactly what Pixelpumpkin said. A Labyrinth is a single path that leads to a centre point. What we have in game is a maze
You’re probably not going to get an official list of these changes other than what’s already available to players through knowledge of beta, headstart, and previous dev videos/blogs.
A lot of the old mechanics looked/sounded really cool. If Arenanet explained all of them people would be asking why we don’t have it that way now and why it was changed to what it was. It took them a lot of testing to figure out what worked and what didn’t; players didn’t go through that same testing so a lot of things about the way it used to be just end up sounding way way cooler than what we have now.
What resolution are you running the game at? Because if you’re trying to run it at the max retina resolution then that’s why your FPS is so horrible. Lower it to 1440 or whatever number it is that is technically ‘native’ on the retina display.
This is a no from me. Improve PvP and WvW, but don’t you dare put PvP into PvE.
That’s the thing though ProtoGunner. Not everyone is spec’d for DPS or enjoys playing DPS builds. I have a Celestial ele and my damage output initially wasn’t high enough to take the enemies down fast enough. I’m not used to playing with weapons other than the staff (ele’s don’t have weapon swap so it’s pretty standard to use one weapon for everything), and the staff really wasn’t going to work for these fights.
An achievement should be doable regardless of your build. The game was supposed to be designed so that people could ‘play their way’. Yeah someone with a zerker build is going to be able to do it quicker, but it shouldn’t be a requirement.
Also this mission doesn’t always work as intended. The first couple of times I did it I stayed well away from them but the two NPC’s who get attacked by the wolves were dead before I could get anywhere near them. The time I actually got the achievement the wolves were stuck in a wall…
I don’t see why any Sylvari inspired armour in the gem store would have to be Sylvari exclusive anyway. I’m sure there are players with characters of other races who might like plant armour.
+1 from me. I would kill for more Sylvari armour.
Arguably, that first point isn’t true, as what we experience with seasons and even days is questionable – potentially due to mechanics. Snow has never been seen to happen naturally during winter except in high elevation areas (mountains) and with comments or observations of the snow being magical (Kamadan’s snow, for example, during Wintersday in GW1 was said to be magically created; the snow seen in LA and elsewhere in GW2 during Wintersday shows up only beneath asuran snow-making devices). You can observe the sun rising and setting in the same direction – despite it being easy to set it to rise and set in opposing directions with mechanics – canon lore or laziness? We can’t say.
Winter doesn’t = snow. I live in an area where it does not snow, ever. The closest I can get to snow is a 4 hour drive to a mountain/volcano, which has snow on it because it is at a high altitude, not because of the season. That does not, however, mean that I don’t experience winter. Also there’s nothing to say that Tyria isn’t a bit closer to its sun than Earth is to our sun, or that any number of other variables aren’t factoring in that mean we don’t observe winter snowfalls in Tyria (or of course it could just be that the devs didn’t want to implement mechanics that would show it).
As to the equator potentially being vertical in order to support a doughnut world theory – that doesn’t really make any sense given the climate of the areas we can observe, and if you want to add that map’s labels then there’s even less likelihood of the equator being anywhere other than in the center of the map horizontally.
