Character Slot for Heart of Thorns? [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Actually with GW1 you got an extra character slot for each Campaign you added to your account. I don’t think Eye of the North, the only Expansion gave you an extra character slot. So it’s possible that there won’t be an extra character slot given an expansion is shorter than a full blown campaign, but I really hope they do or a lot of people are going to be annoyed when wanting to make a Revenant.

Can we get an update on GW1 Tickets?

Really…how odd! I’ve never received a ‘Come back to GW1’ email. I’ve never heard of anyone getting one, before, either. Are you sure they aren’t phishing emails, or something?

Hmmm maybe they don,t like you as much… But I’d be willing to bet it was a jest on my part and most of the mails are trying to sell me expansions ect. What do you think?

After going through my JUNK mail I found 60+ from GW , come back we miss you! ( YOU KNOW THE MAIL I’M TALKING ABOUT)

There are no mails like that from GW1. If you’re getting them they’re most likely phishing attempts. GW1 is in maintenance mode, it would be very very bizarre for them to send out emails like that…

As the title says it isn’t really acceptable for there to be such long response times for either GW1 or GW2 related tickets. If you aren’t able to cope with the number of customer support requests then you need to hire more staff.

It is incredibly distressing being unable to, and not knowing whether you will ever be able to, access an account that you’ve had for many years and have spent a large deal of money on. I understand that support requests can often take some time, but seeing users here on the forums who have tickets that have gone months without a reply has me worried that this issue isn’t ever going to be resolved. That isn’t acceptable when you’re dealing with a game that people have paid for. In fact I’m reasonably sure it’s not acceptable under New Zealand’s consumer guarantee act…

My linked GW1 account won’t let me log in – it says the account has been blocked when I enter the password. However there isn’t any reason for my account to be blocked, nor has there ever been any indication for when, how, or why that would have happened. I don’t log in to my GW1 account very frequently, when I have over the last year or so it has been to collect birthday presents. I’ve never done anything that could be considered inappropriate in game and to my knowledge my account has never been compromised – you would think that had it been compromised then my linked GW2 account would have also been compromised…

Before other forum users start saying things like ‘everyone has to wait, they have a lot of tickets to deal with…’ Your response is unhelpful. Nobody should be having to wait for extensive periods of time to have issues with a product they have paid for dealt with.

Tonn/Apatia cut from Personal Story

They haven’t stated why this change happened but it will be fixed in 8+ weeks.

Personal opinion but I disagree on your comments on Tonn’s storyline. It was overly predictable to me, greatly so, and was the first fear storyline I did so I didn’t know what to expect. Tonn’s wife’s reaction felt greatly out of place given her combat medical background and her sudden turn around was too sudden (like Logan’s at the end of Caudecus’ Manor story dungeon).

I completely agree. Meeting his wife was kind of an eye-roll bad writing moment for me.

Because players don’t know everything O_o. Anet has access to the actual data relating to professions, how effective they are, how much damage certain builds do, etc. Balance changes are their call and I don’t think there are any instances where they’ve made a bad decision. Of course players are going to get upset over balance changes, meta builds that tend to be a little too powerful get nerfed so they’re more in line with everything else.

The minimap (and the chat) used to touch the experience bar at the bottom, since the patch there is now a space below them that you can see the world through. I have the UI set to small (and always have), I don’t know if other UI sizes have the same problem.

What makes you think that Logan is the “rightful king of Ascalon” ?

His ancestors are not from royalty in any sense, and even if Logan officially marry with Jennah, he’ll be King of Kryta.

Adlebern was not of royal blood either, yet he became king. Check out Ascalon’s Chosen. I think it would be entirely plausible that somewhere in Logan’s and Kerian’s ancestry there’s an illegitimate heir, unless ANet clarifies otherwise

Adelbern was descended from King Doric, so he was of royal blood… Sorry to burst your bubble. He wasn’t next in line for the throne when he was crowned, but he WAS in line. Logan isn’t of royal blood at all…

suggestion: remove Delaqua and Meade

in Living World

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

So what is it exactly about Kasmeer and Marjory that you hate? You should let us know in detail so we can decide how seriously to take your suggestion!

OK, let me explain.
Do this mental excersise: take Marjory Delaqua and swap her for a male, say a daredevil investigator named Marty d’Eau. Now replay all the dialogues between our Marty and Kasmeer, namely the dialogues related to their relationship.
Do you really like their relationship?
From my point of view, with the lesbian glamour gone, we are left with pretty much abusive relationship, which is not much about love, but about dependency and possession.
I don’t know if there was an intent to show a bad relationship, but I doubt it. This prejudice, that only these who are able to do a service to others or, even better, those who are “keeping their loved ones alive”, can get laid, is twisted to the extreme, yet, sadly, very widespread. It is a model of relationship from the patriarchal society, where the wife depens on her husband in everything and is, practically, dead without their kind protection. Like Kasmeer removed from Marjory custody.

Usualy when you run into some gender /equality issue (and this game suffers from it) the rule of thumb how to get a good point of view is to mentally swap genders of main protagonist. This way you can evaluate, for example, the relationship between, say, devout guardian Megan Thackeray, who deeply loves king John The Barefoot, and the complicated bond between freeminded adventurer Styr Egalkin and his daughter Beryl Styrdottir, who didnot knew who was her father until she was seven, since Styr let her alone with her mother and did not bother to show up… etc., etc.

A heterosexual relationship is not the same thing as a homosexual relationship. The fact that you’re suggesting we view a homosexual relationship through a heterosexual lens to figure out whether or not it is ‘healthy’ or ‘acceptable’ is oppressive and degrading.

I personally don’t see anything abusive about their relationship and you’ve failed to provide valid evidence that would suggest as much, so your post comes across as homophobic which is probably why it was deleted in the first place.

Nothing about their relationship shows ‘dependency’ or ‘possession’, at least not in the unhealthy light you’re suggesting. Part of the great thing about being in love with someone is that you can depend on them, Kasmeer and Marjory have both gone through some really tough things during the course of their lives and it’s great that they can depend on one another. Kasmeer has been able to rely on Marjory for emotional assistance with her family/nobility situation, and Marjory has equally been able to rely on Kasmeer when her sister Belinda was killed. There is mutual reliance going on there, which is pretty standard to any kind of human relationship, what on earth do you think is so unhealthy about that?

But alas, I’m assuming it will never come.

But I was wondering, if anet has a shortage of staff, why not hire students who need to run internships. Free/cheap labor and I’m pretty sure in the current market there’s plenty of them. Let them work on stuff like this, and then have your own men do the finishing touches. I mean, thats about half the work off everything.

Because you need people who are familiar with your systems, can ensure a certain level of quality, and then you also need to assign existing staff who are familiar with the content to oversee it. Hiring people also costs a lot of money, and you can’t just get free labour like that. If you’re hiring someone they have to sign a contract. If simply hiring more staff was a solution to everything then companies would do it a lot more, but it’s not which is why companies like Arenanet try to keep their staff numbers at a reasonable amount.

what will happen to Orr?

in Lore

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

GW1 do in fact have time based maps. Pre- and post-searing is the best (and only) example of a full change. But there are also minor changes made to maps while you progress through War in Kryta.

Mostly, only appearing NPCs change, but the Shining Blade Camp is an example of a more “drastic” change. Every map in GW1 is instanced, so it kinda makes you wonder why they didn’t do more such changes, but I think it lies mostly on the technical side (disk usage) (?).

Because in order to have maps with variations on them they have to have an entirely separate copy of that map which takes up even more space in the .dat, when you start doing it for a lot of maps then you’re increasing the size of the client by quite a bit. With GW2 they’re also reluctant to do it because it would split the player base on each map up even more because while there might be x number of players in Lions Arch, they may be split in half with only a small number on the old version of it (making the game look like a wasteland for new players) and the rest on the new version.

They just really shouldn’t have tampered with maps that have such a big role in the personal story.

I don’t think they can ever cleanse Orr, not unless they trash the entire personal story or create multiple copies on Orr, which lets face it would just make it hell for anyone doing the personal story because there would be very few people to help them out with group events, temple events, champion bosses, etc.

Imo revenant sneak peak looks like reimagined assassin/ritualist classes from gw1 factions (cantha). If those 2 arnt being saved for cantha…could spell doom for that continent ;-(

However, I suppose if they are saving tengu, there is some hope ;-)

I believe Revenant is more of a dark Dervish but with Ritualist elements mixed in similar to how Necro also has Rit elements.
I predicted in my Reaper class thread that we will go to Elona.
Watch and be amazed.
Rytlock getting lost into the Mist awhile ago and playing a major role in the expansion was a dead giveaway that we heading towards Elona direction especially with the new class being undead/demon themed. Elona is undead controlled now, keep that in mind as well..

Lolwhat? Nothing dervish about them seen so far.

They are a class that channels ‘legendary powers’ , namely the powers of beings from history. The Dervishes channeled the powers of the gods. We see the revenant using ascension runes as a design on their blindfolds and on their skill effects, so there is clearly a bit of throwing back to the dervish in there…

So I heard of a thing, but is it okay?

That, I doubt. There’s no indication that the Sylvari don’t subscribe to the normal definition of what a day is and unless it’s explicitly said, it’d be grasping at straws to assume so.

I’m not saying they don’t subscribe to the traditional notion of a day, I’m saying that in that instance they used it as a synonym for 24 hours – which people do in real life as well. When you say something is ‘a day away’ you don’t typically mean that at midnight that thing is suddenly here, it just refers to something that is within 24 hours from your present time.

I wonder, since for a human it’s pretty clear that a day is chronologically morning-noon-dusk-night. But there’s no indication that for sylvari it might just as well be dusk-night-dawn-noon, because their race started at dusk.

I agree with this. Knowing that Trahearne is Dusk and also the eldest, it makes sense that they started to be born at dusk. But then there’s the issue of what the Luminaries say about their time of birth: if they say “on the first day” versus “on our first dawn”.

They could be using day as a measure of 24 hours, rather than as a specific 24 hours (as in, dusk-dusk is 24 hours and therefore their first day, rather than 12:00 – 12:00).

I have the sneaking suspicion that I’ve made this comment before… :S

All of the first 12 are called the Firstborn. There is nothing in there to suggest that Ree’s use of ‘first-born’ means “the first four” and not “four of the first 12.” Secondborn refers to the second wave of sylvari after the first 12.

Not “everyone after the first four.”

You’re reading something that literally isn’t there, and is directly contradicted elsewhere.

“They had to break it up somehow; Sylvari are born very quickly -especially now. And they divided into the cycles of the sun because each of the first-born would tend to the tree for a period of the day. One was at dawn, one was at noon, one was at dusk and one was during the night. And at that period the Sylvari who were born, who awakened during that time, would be taken under the tutelage of that first-born.”

I don’t recall saying that the firstborn was somehow only the first four…
That specific bit talks about how the Sylvari born in each cycle would tend to the tree during that time of day, which means there were three tending the tree at any given time of the day, or at least whose shared responsibility it was. The issue comes where Ree says the secondborn born in a specific time of day “would be taken under the tutelage of that first-born”, not ‘those’ firstborn, “that’ firstborn.

None of this is contradicted everywhere else. It’s only contradicted in newly released Living World content.

Neilos, Konig operates under a premise he remembers that sylvari Firstborn awoke one per cycle over three days.

However, it’s a premise that literally no one can find the source of, so yeah, no one is lying.

You have twelve Sylvari. Of those twelve we know who 10 are. Of those 10 we have 1 Dawn, 3 Night, 3 Dusk, 1 Noon, and 2 unknown ( making 4 unknown in total). We know from an interview that the firstborn are split across each of the cycles, which means there are 3 of each in total.

This is probably of interest because it showcases what Konig is getting at:
http://www.wartower.de/artikel/artikel.php?id=651
“Ree: It started really with the second-born, because until the second-born were created the first-born didn’t even realize, there were going to be more. As far as they knew, they were the only Sylvari ever, that would ever be. And the tree had not yet flowered again. And when she did she started to create slowly generation after generation and that’s when they started to create a society. They had to break it up somehow; Sylvari are born very quickly -especially now. And they divided into the cycles of the sun because each of the first-born would tend to the tree for a period of the day. One was at dawn, one was at noon, one was at dusk and one was during the night. And at that period the Sylvari who were born, who awakened during that time, would be taken under the tutelage of that first-born. And so they were called the cycle of night or the cycle of day according to when they were born.”

What she is talking about near the end is a reference to the Luminaries, and she is suggesting that each of the luminaries is the first born into that cycle.

Does anyone know when/in what part of the personal story Trahearne talks about when he awoke? I feel like that might be kind of helpful here.

I’m sorry but I think your misinterpreting Kahdenis’ words. Him saying that he is helping each of the newly awakened doesn’t mean he is solely responsible. It could mean that the menders was a very small group that put a strain on the him (which would lead to the larger group found in 1325 AE.

“I try to find time to help each of the new sprouts interpret their Dreams, but it’s becoming difficult with so many awakening. I fear some will go astray and misinterpret their Wyld Hunts.”

It doesn’t mean he is solely responsible but it does mean that he is talking to each and every Sylvari newborn. Why would you need to talk to every single newbown Sylvari if you had at least one mender (Mender Serimon) who was clearly doing the exact same thing. So either Kahedins is an idiot, is doing far more than he needs to be, has no faith in the menders to do exactly what they exist to do, or the writers made an error. Given the fact that Angel just tried to say that the Sylvari didn’t “know how they were going to deal with the newborn” it seems the writers have forgotten/did not care that they had previously established that there had to have been menders helping newborn Sylvari at that point. That takes organisation and it clearly suggests that the Firstborn had made some sort of decision as to what needed to be done with the newborn, aka having Menders to guide them through their birth and through interpreting their dream.

Because Kahdenis shouldn’t be struggling with trying to show “each” of the new Sylvari how to interpret their dreams if there are already Menders in place to do so. I could understand if he was acting as a Mender and aiding some Sylvari in interpreting their Dream, but he specifically says he is trying to help “each” Sylvari with that. If you have Mender Serimon, and presumably others since the concept of a Mender exists, then Kahedins shouldn’t be doing all of that.

Yeah it seems like a very small detail and one that can be easily explained away by the devs saying that I’m reading it wrong, but if you look at it with any semblance of logic then it just doesn’t make sense. So either they’re writing their world very poorly or they’re making genuine errors. Both reflect poorly.

4. At the time Wynne died, they had not yet decided how they were going to deal with the Secondborn nor had they set up a structure for this (as seen in the first Caithe flashback). They didn’t have Wardens yet. “Cycle Luminary” i

You say that, and yet they had Menders (Scarlet was welcomed by Mender Serimon). So clearly there was a structure set up since you guys decided to chuck Scarlet/Ceara into the Seeds of Truth instance. I think you guys have dug yourselves into a hole. The instance, and what you’re saying now, is clearly trying to state that the Sylvari had no structures for dealing with the Secondborn, and yet what we observe suggests otherwise. It wouldn’t really make sense for there to have not been a structure set in place the second Secondborn started arriving.

Take note:
“Sapling?” Serimon said. “I’m here to help you acclimate. To help you understand your place in this world and identify the purpose Pale Mother has given you.”

So clearly Secondborn were already being aided at the time they emerged from the dream, and yet what Kahedins says in ‘The Newly Awakened’ (“I try to find time to help each of the new sprouts interpret their Dreams, but it’s becoming difficult with so many awakening. I fear some will go astray and misinterpret their Wyld Hunts.”) seems to be more in line with what you, Angel, are trying to convey.

You guys are screwing up and it’s a little ridiculous. If forum users can keep track of your lore, then why can’t you?

That would remove players from GW2’s zones. Which is absolutely the last thing Arenanet want to do.

They’re happy to leave GW1 in the state it is because people can still go back for nostalgia sense. But they want the majority of their playerbase to be in the GW2 zones, playing the content they’re spending money on and buying things in the gem store. If you make GW1 active again then you pull away from GW2’s playerbase, income etc.

It’s not a question of cost, it’s a question of profit. They could have very easily left the small GW1: Beyond team actively making GW1 content. They chose not to do so because it would pull players away from GW2. Which is where they’re making their money and where they stand to make the most money from.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t get those. But there is a balance update coming on the 27th, so if we are getting extractors for them then that will be when.

I’m with Windu here. Every definition of racism I’ve ever seen was centered on superiority/inferiority or hatred, not disregard- caring too much, not too little. If anything, it’d seem to me that protesting your culture being mixed with another’s is racism- are Japanese influences unworthy of standing alongside Chinese influences? Cultural sensitivity is a good thing, but when crafting fictional settings that don’t even imply that they’re portraying the real world, it’s a very minor concern… unless you’re selling to countries where racism is powerful enough to affect sales, I suppose.

Try studying sociology and perhaps you’ll have a better definition.

I’m still angry about that whole thing. Some asians didn’t want it, so what?
Cantha is part of the lore wether they want it or not.

When you’re using other people’s cultures you have to respect them. It doesn’t matter if it was already an established part of the lore, if it was going to offend a couple of Asian cultures because it blended them (there are a lot of Asian cultures that are quite hostile towards one another) then it makes sense to remove it until such a time that you can revise it so that it isn’t offensive.

Your attitude is racist. You don’t realise it, but it is. You don’t just get to do whatever you want with other people’s cultural heritage. It holds meaning for them and to abuse that meaning is to enact violence against their culture.

I think people are just blowing this entirely out of proportion, it’s just a video game… what’s the big deal. And racist? I have nothing against the asian race nor did I ever claim to. Ingame cultures are often based on real life cultures (asian cultures, nordic cultures, european cultures, african cultures, arabic cultures, the list goes on). This is as old as gaming itself, why is it a problem all of a sudden? I honestly don’t understand.

Just because you don’t find it offensive doesn’t mean that others don’t. Just because you aren’t actively being racist doesn’t mean that your comments are coming off that way. Showing a lack of sensitivity to how other people perceive their own cultures is racism. Portraying another culture inaccurately is insulting. It doesn’t matter if you wouldn’t find it insulting if your own culture was portrayed inaccurately, in the West we are quite used to satire and our cultures are already incredibly mixed so often that kind of thing doesn’t seem like an issue. But I’m not sure that you have any right to speak for how another country treats their culture and whether or not they’re open to it being fiddled with in a video game.

The point is that it fits well in any time of turmoil. it was written for the fight against Zhaitan though. I’m pretty sure Ree has talked about writing it in an interview. I have no idea how to find it though. It’s great that the song is so re-applicable. I think she did an amazing job with it.

Funny how people seems to have an issue with everything (which is not even the case) being about the Dragons and yet the same people usually praise how good Guild Wars 1 was. Despite everything (and that was basically actually everything) was about Abaddon.

That’s because everything wasn’t about Abaddon…until Nightfall. They retroactively made him responsible for both Shiro and the Searing.

It wasn’t quite as retroactive as you think. Prophecies actually had a lot of nods towards Nightfall. We encountered Turai Ossa and heard of his pilgrimage, there was a mission called “Elona Reach”, we fought back the titans at “Abaddon’s Mouth”. Sure the entire story may not have been plotted out from the beginning, but they clearly had some idea of what they were doing. And it is no different to any other MMO, expansions reveal new things that may or may not have been initially planned, or may have been planned at a later stage. It doesn’t mean they’ve suddenly gone back and retroactively changed the lore, because they never actually altered anything about Prophecies. The stories clearly link into one another, whether it was initially devised that way or not is irrelevant. It doesn’t lessen prophecies or nightfall’s story if the links were figured out after Prophecies had already been released (and there is no way they hadn’t considering Nightfall was released so soon after Prophecies).
