[MAC] Framerate Issue

The mac cider port will give you terrible performance at anything above 1080p. It’s probably using about 5% of your computer power.

Go down to 1080p and probably your fps will double, even if it looks like kitten on a 1440p monitor.

It doesnt help that mac performances are worse now than they were 1 year ago.

Which is partly because the Windows performance for GW2 is also worse than it was a year ago. A lot of the living story season 2 patches absolutely destroyed some of the great optimisation they had done. Yay.

Romantic relationships don’t need to be included at all, but they are. So because they are it’s fair to want to see a fair representation. And it calls into question anet’s “positive intentions” when the only ss couples are “hot” lesbians. One could accuse anet of fetishizing women’s relationship with each other for the titillation of there supposedly “all” straight male audience. And that’s annoying to gays, to lesbains, and I would imagine to women as well. Playing in an 8th graders wet dream…really breaks immersion for me!!!

At what point would you classify a lesbian relationship as not being fan service? Just because some people choose to see it that way doesn’t mean that it isn’t a positive representation that makes a lot of people very happy. The fetishising of people for their sexuality is a really unfortunate byproduct of the way sexuality is portrayed in the media. If we wan’t to get past that then we actually need MORE representation.

Arenanet isn’t fetishising lesbian relationships, they have clearly actively tried to create a positive representation that is in part there to represent part of the player community. At no point in the development of GW1 or 2 have they done anything to suggest that they would do anything so crass…

[mac] windowed mode reso & high-res textures

FlamingFoxx.1305

It’s odd because the game used to be playable in full screen windowed, you would just be unable to see the experience bar and the very bottom of the skills…

As to the high-res textures, you probably aren’t missing out on a whole lot. They tend to slow the game down a bit and considering the OSX client already has not so great performance it would probably just bog it down even more.

The OSX client is 32 bit, so there are no high-res character textures. It’s the same as running the game in 32 bit windows. You can only use the high res character textures in 64bit windows.

If you mean holding right click to turn the camera? Get your friend to open up the setting panel. There are two “Mac Beta” settings that might be interfering with her ability to do it. She also needs to have right click enabled on her mac obviously. It might also be worth turning off the “use camera for free turning” (or something to that effect) setting. Turning it off should stop her mouse clicks being used to just rotate the camera instead of the characters view. She should also check the rotation sensitivity settings, if they’re very very low it might have an impact?

Or if the rumors about the necromancer specialization being called “Reaper” are true, and the scythe in the icons is there as a symbol of the name.

But Necros are getting a Great Sword, so I don’t see how that would make any sense O_o. Their Staff animations are already scythe-like, I think it would be pretty bizarre to try and make a great sword look like a scythe.

The Dervish skills are:
Aura Slicer http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Aura_Slicer
Fleeting Stability http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Fleeting_Stability
Whirling Charge http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Whirling_Charge

The second two are enchantments and the first relates to enchantments, I feel like that might be a heavy clue right there. We also have the word ‘Aura’ in there, which could hint at these ones being related to the Ele’s specialisation.

Blacktide Thief Hacker Strikes again, part 10

What i mean is: this player hacker was hurting a whole server: and that should not be resolve in secret. Yes! i know this is not the only player hacker in all servers but this player hacker was not ashamed for making alot of damage.

So if the player hacker was not ashamed: why should Arena net resolve this player hacker action in secret?

I’m not saying there’s a problem with publicly stating that the hacker had been dealt with and banned. But the video was not appropriate. They absolutely should say that they’ve banned serious offenders like that, people should know. However, they shouldn’t post immature and unprofessional videos showing them needlessly toying with an account when they should have just banned it.

FlamingFoxx.1305

I think it was absolutely the right way, because Anet has not been entirely transparent about the bans they’ve handed out in the past. Sometimes an example has to be made. Oh, and if you think this is wrong, did you not play GW1? In that game, GMs and security staff were able to execute a ban using a unique reaper-like avatar called Dhuum, which publicly shamed anyone who violated the rules — inside the actual confines of the game itself.

Your “cheating is not okay but this is going too far” defense falls flat when these individuals have spent all of their time ruining the game for hundreds of other people, for weeks and sometimes months on end. That’s going too far. What Chris did was an appropriate and tactical response to that behavior — if you cheat, prepare to have this happen to you. A good lesson.

I don’t have a problem with the Dhuum style ban animation. Its just adding an animation on to what the client itself was already doing. That is massively different to a developer posting a video in which they log into the account, strip the character down, jump them off a ledge, and then delete the characters. Why not just ban the account like normal and tell users that it had been done. It seem unnecessary and unprofessional to me. There’s a big difference between thinking ‘if I get banned there’s be a Dhumm animation killing me’ and ‘if I get banned a staff member might log into my account and do things to my character and then delete and ban me’. Big difference. Obviously the person deserved to have their account banned and deleted, but was the other stuff necessary? No.

Clearly our ideas of appropriate differ so any further discussion isn’t really going to be fruitful. I’ve stated my opinion on it and if people disagree with me then that is fine.

Flamingfoxx. First of all this hacker has driven many people from WvW in T8 and T9 and caused a lot of people to stop enjoying a game they play to have fun for months.

Secondly, read the second post by Chris Cleary. I very much doubt this is the only account associated with the guy in question and it wouldn’t surprise me if he had accounts on multiple servers doing this.

Thirdly, a dev can do and see more than you or I. They have the tools to know they get the right people and see if something fishy is going on. This is not an abuse of power, this is him investigating and dealing with a problem as outlined in the T&C which we all agreed to.

As for the video, you find it appalling but to the 50 people on WSR, UW and FoW that I know, they find it funny. It has made them feel the devs do not simply ignore us nor that they are robots without any form of emotion or humour. I’m sure many others are rejoicing on BT, FoW, WSR and UW.

I’m not questioning the action of banning the person. I’m fully behind taking action against those who cheat. But this isn’t the way to do it. The abuse of power is not using the tools they have at hand specifically designed to catch people out, it’s making public ridicule/example of a person in a way that is absolutely needless.

Dude, sometimes, a witchhunt style spectacle is jusy the way to go. I can understand why you disprove, but at the same time I feel this kind of rule enforcement is beneficial when used on occasion. I feel like it puts the developers on a more “down to Earth” relatable pedistal.

Cheers

It does not put them on a ‘down to earth’ level. It puts them in a very high up, untouchable position where they have the ability to use public shaming as a form of humour. This is not so different from something like a public flogging. For a lot of people on the surface it appears to be a light hearted joke at someone else’s supposedly deserved misfortune and punishment, in reality it is an open threat and a misappropriation of power. How does this show a capacity to fairly judge? It isn’t professional and people should be able to play the game with the confidence that they’re actually going to be dealt with fairly in a situation where they get accused, wrongly or rightly, of something. This does not inspire confidence. Great for you if you think it’s humorous, but he should never have posted that.

We don’t need to see it in-game, sometimes good video evidence is enough for me to track down who it was. In this case, the video was enough for me to find out who it was and take action. Thanks for the video, and to accompany your video, I give you this video of his account’s last moments:

https://youtu.be/bqfUi9DzBuo

Oh yah, he’s also banned

And how is that acceptable professional behaviour? Making a public spectacle of this isn’t doing anything conductive towards an image of being able to professionally and rationally deal with people who have broken the rules, nor does it inspire confidence for a game that is known to produce false positives in regards to things like botting.

How are people supposed to know that they will be dealt with fairly and rationally when the games security lead is partaking in incredibly unprofessional witch-hunt style public shaming of people? Shame on you.

This is straight from your personal linkedin page:

• Fair game-play in Guild Wars 2 by enforcing the User Agreements and Rules of Conduct
• Maintinence and evolution of systems to help reduce instances of payment fraud

Do you sincerely believe that you’re exhibiting a capacity for “Fair game-play in Guild Wars 2 by enforcing the User Agreements and Rules of Conduct” – could you point to the part of the user agreements and rules of conduct that legitimises the video you made? Is it not a compromise of user security for you to post a video logging in to another persons account and posting a video of it? Regardless of what they’ve done, how is that ok? Sure cheating is not ok, but there are wrong and right ways to deal with it. This wasn’t the right way.

Crossover is the best thing to use for running GW1 on OSX. You get really good performance if your system is decent, as in, absolutely no worse than performance on windows (partially since it is an old game). It does however cost money, you should do a google for how to run GW1 in wine, which would be free, it should effectively be the same this as Crossover (which is built on wine), and GW1 did have a ton of support in the Wine community so any bugs should have been ironed out by now.

I don’t think modifying the GW2 wrapper would work, Cider isn’t stupid and it will be a little more complex than it appears – there’s a reason the game runs better in Cider than it does in Wine.

Hall of Monuments Update?

FlamingFoxx.1305

I’ll go ahead and comment on this thread, as it seems to be the most recent of the HOM ones.

I’ll try to explain this without getting too technical, and some parts are probably going to have to be left out.

The bug that caused players to unlock achievements/skins/titles and achievement points was caused when the GW1 server that stores the HOM status talks to the GW2 server that controls new character creation. Basically it was sending bad data to the GW2 server, and unlocking achievements that should not have been unlocked.

This means that there were multiple problem points that need to be cleaned up. The first thing to be cleaned up was the bug that caused this to happen, and that was fixed within a few hours. However, the removal of the rewards is an entirely different problem.

We don’t have the tools to easily mass remove achievements/titles, which means it’s something that has to be developed. Unfortunately, this came at a time where our resources are tapped to the max, so it’s taking longer than we would like to fix this.

Thankfully (lol), when the HOM rewards bug was happening, the actual HOM was not accessible, and those players were not able to claim any other HOM entitlements…so the damage was somewhat limited.

We are working on this, I assure you, and we will remove the rewards from players that should not have received them. I do not have a timeframe, as modifying accounts at this type of level is not something we would ever take lightly, and as long as we keep a majority of the entitlements locked there is less for us to clean up.

But if the damage is limited to titles and you’ve fixed the bug meaning that it won’t happen again, why can’t the HoM be re-opened?

Such pandering might ruin the game’s story to me. A characters sexuality should only be mentioned if it’s relevant to the story, and I’m not sure I entirely trust Anet to do this with proper subtlety. Trying to include the fact that a character is some kind of minority in the spotlight is the absolute worst way to go about this. Write compelling and interesting stories, not by going down a list check-marking all the quirks you think the game just HAS to have.

Have you considered that it only seems like pandering to you because it isn’t the norm. If it were a heterosexual romance you probably wouldn’t think twice about it. The fact is their sexuality is pertinent. it would be super bizarre if we were interacting with Marjory and Kas and didn’t know they were a couple. In fact if you paid attention to the story it started off quite subtly and most people didn’t figure out they were a couple until Marjory gets outright asked…

People have a sexuality, it’s not unsubtle to show it. When I walk around with my boyfriend and interact with people I imagine that it’s reasonably obvious that we are in fact a couple. Sexuality isn’t some hidden thing that people don’t notice – not to say people always notice it, but we all have it and putting it in a game isn’t pandering or catering to what you might perceive as a minority. I don’t have a clue what a ‘subtle’ showing of a relationship would be. Do you consider Logan and Jenna to be subtle? What about Penelopee and Blumaroo?

They most likely do have a case. There are quite a few people, myself included, who are inexplicably unable to login to their GW1 accounts. I’d hazard a guess that it’s something to do with NCSoft master accounts being closed down, but then that’s my only guess because I can’t think why else it has happened.

I’ve just learned about this a couple of days ago. I have an alt account which is an ncsoft account. I’m still able to login to it, but do you know if there is something I need to do? I just googled what you said, and the information said the deadline was in May, but they never emailed me this.

I will stir up the anger of many people on this thread …

Sorry, I personally am heterosexual, and I have great difficulty in finding a mate. For me the NPC Gay will just reinforce my sense of solitude. I would have liked to see more lovely couples Logan / Jennah. (and preferably endings them.)
And I admit clearly that I do not stay connected to GW2 if I meet interracial NPC. It’s against my classical breeding logic. Tyria is lost, is on the brink of crisis, asuras, more than anyone, will say no to a pervert who wants to put them on. brrrr horrible.

anyway, it’s just us, earth humans. IRL. Who we develop an attraction to other breeds. I like to think that other civilizations not necessarily think was a cross or are not like us in thought.

They do not go the same attraction, not even food, not the same thoughts as us. Tyria for me would be perfect with real different mentalities, we worked to change completely from reality.

You’re saying that seeing gay couples makes you feel alone… Imagine how the world feels for those of us who are gay – most relationships in movies, books, and video games are heterosexual relationships. We end up feeling a lot more alone than one lesbian couple ends up making you feel.

Representation is important… You don’t get to put gay people down just because you’d rather see nothing but heterosexual romance…

Why is my download so much larger?

in Account & Technical Support

FlamingFoxx.1305

Mine is around 21GB but I have the English version installed. Localization of another language will certainly increase the size. Also, you cannot judge the final DB file size WHILE it’s downloading (GW2.DAT).

Please wait until the download completes before jumping to conclusions.

So my download has finished. 33 GB downloaded, 21 GB total folder size.

That makes absolutely no sense. I’ve never seen a game download so much more than it installs.

Really? You’ve never had a game download the client and then continue to download patches? That’s most likely what it was doing. Can you image how difficult it would be to make it so that there was only ever one version of the .dat and still make sure that current players only had to download the most recent patch.

Why is my download so much larger?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

That doesn’t really help. It is the size of the total download that is the problem, not the .dat file. I’ve just passed 30 gigs downloaded and its still going with 51k files to go. My .dat file is only 17 gigs.

I’ve never seen a game download so much more than it installs. Normally it is the other way around as you download compressed files.

It is probably downloading patched files. The .dat file is likely to be around 20-24GB in total. Just because it is small now doesn’t mean it will stay small. The downloader is probably downloading temporary files that will then be unpacked into the .dat file.

You do have the option of playing the game while it installs (it downloads necessary files first), so you can probably play it already.

Fixed that.
It is not something new. There have never been any sort of complex game that didn’t have bugs.

There have been plenty of games in the past that launched without prominent game breaking bugs. Sure, older games broke occasionally, but it was usually an ‘if x, y, and z all happen at the same time…’ situation that most people never encountered. There are very few instances where I encountered bugs in old PS1 or 2 games, especially in comparison to the frequency with which I come across bugs in a PS3 or 4 game. Games now launch with far more bugs, presumably because they are larger, more complex, time constrained, and developers have the ability to release patches…

Long long shot, if you use the minimise button on the character select screen, will it let you grab the edges of the GW2 screen and manually resize them (it isn’t supposed to, but it’s worth checking).

Guild Wars 1 Support?

FlamingFoxx.1305

Of course they can. There is (as far as I am aware) not a single law that says that a company most give support for a product forever. In fact I can almost guarantee that it is not a law, seeing as that would basically mean every product ever would be required to be supported forever, which simply would be impossible.

If I contact Blizzard today, with a support issue for Diablo (1 or 2) it is very unlikely that I would get lightning fast support (if any). Last time I tried (had issues with my D2 disks about 5 years ago) it took them almost a month to even reply.

There’s a big difference between a single player game that came out 15 years ago and an MMO. MMO’s are designed to last a much longer time. Single player games are never really expected to be supported for more than a year post-launch. If Arenanet had said that were ceasing support for the game it wouldn’t be an issue, but they haven’t said anything to that effect. The GW1 support forums direct players to the GW2 support forms which sends a clear message that players can still expect account based support.

There is no law that guarantees product support forever, but there are laws that protect a consumer’s rights in an instance where they aren’t being supported for a product they have paid for and can reasonably assume that they should be. Maybe there isn’t something to that effect in the US, but there is in New Zealand and they have to adhere to it. As stated previously, Arenanet are subject to the consumer laws in any country that they sell their games in…

Guild Wars 1 support aside, there are plenty of instances of people not receiving support for their GW2 accounts for weeks to months, which is certainly not acceptable. You managed to get support for Diablo 2 in under a month despite the fact that it was a single player game that had been released some years ago – instead we are talking about two active games. Defend it all you want but their support is dismal and it isn’t acceptable.

I understand the point that you guys are making. But it isn’t helpful to shut people down and simply tell them to wait for a response. Arenanet has a duty to support customers who have paid for a service, it really isn’t acceptable for people to be waiting months for any kind of assistance.

But how long?
Some people bought the game 10 years ago. How long should they be allowed to demand swift support?
And with which money should said support be paid?

And to be fair, the service people paid for was access to the servers, nothing else. It is also written rather clear that they can shut down an account for no reason whatsoever whenever they want if they choose to.

There is nothing in the agreement you singed that says that you will have access to swift support (or support at all for that matter) forever.

But there are things in consumer law, which companies don’t get to just ignore by putting a clause in their own user agreements…

Given that you have no clue how much money they still have in their budget for GW1 I don’t think your comment is warranted. Even if there were just one person working on GW1 support they should still be able to get through a reasonable quantity of support tickets per day – sure those tickets might not be resolved in one go, but the number of responses and active tickets should be quite high. Given the number of people who haven’t had responses in very large spaces of time it’s reasonable to assume that they don’t have someone continuously working through the tickets. It’s far more likely that the tickets are being worked through by the GW2 support staff when they aren’t busy trawling through the GW2 support tickets that they also (and also unacceptably) are failing to work through in a reasonable amount of time.

Arenanet is running a product that is sold all over the world, and they are subject to the consumer laws that run in any country they sell the game in. I live in New Zealand for example, and our consumer guarantees act would give me legal right to a total refund for GW1 because they aren’t managing to support me for the service that I paid for. Of course I have absolutely no desire to do that, I’ve put almost 10 years of time and effort into that account, I’m just pointing out that Arenanet can’t simply get away with really really awful support because they don’t feel like putting the resources into responding to paying customers. That’s how you alienate players…

Accept it or not. It’s an old game, and they can choose to have as little or much support as they wish. It’s free to play, and their main focus is GW2. They can also cancel all support on the game if they see fit. They can also close the game down without warning.

You can submit a ticket, and wait.

The game is not free to play, anyone with an account has paid for one. Consumer laws actually prevent them from choosing not to support customers who have paid for the service they provide. If they want to close the game down they can do so, but they can’t stop supporting the game and leave it running.

I understand the point that you guys are making. But it isn’t helpful to shut people down and simply tell them to wait for a response. Arenanet has a duty to support customers who have paid for a service, it really isn’t acceptable for people to be waiting months for any kind of assistance.

Delete the guild wars 2 folder in application support – then restart your computer (makes absolutely sure that no GW2 processes are running) and then open the app. That technically -should- fix it.

If that really isn’t fixing the problem then it might be best to submit a support ticket?

has anyone figured out a solution to all of the graphics issues that came from updating to yosemite? the game is borderline unplayable sometimes now. thanks

As far as I know there aren’t any graphics issues caused by updating your system to Yosemite, nor are there any reasons that there would be. Some of the more recent game updates have reduced performance (for everyone), so they may just be having a more adverse effect on your system?

Well, this forum is for GW2 issues. Thus, if your focus is playing GW1, you aren’t likely to get a response, and your thread may be deleted. You may lose the ability to post.

I understand it is frustrating, but it appears your only option is to wait until your GW1 issue is addressed (with the small support staff assigned to a game in ‘maintenance mode’).

Good luck.

The second option is to do exactly what he did and make a post in order to attempt to get devs to actually address the issue. If they were going to remove the dedicated GW1 support forums and remove support staff from GW1 then they should have either notified customers (who have paid for a service) that they would be experiencing VERY long wait times for support, or they should have said that they aren’t actually supporting the game.

When they annoucned that the game was shifting into maintenance mode the only thing they specified is that this meant there would be no new content released and that they would be shifting everything over to automated systems. There was never any kind of announcement about support being ceased for the game.

Guild Wars 1 support will take time, seeing as it is not a priority.

Which is not on seeing as Arenanet have obviously done something which has caused a whole lot of people to be locked out of their GW1 accounts…

Bougth a second gw2 accont howe to install ?

And howe i run 6 acconts in windowed mode is simpel al that is neded is that all 6 acconts are set up the same displaye and commands, and it dos not brake the eula sins you can only giwe command to 1 instance of the game you have as the open active.

If they are set up to run with the same commands then you are breaking the EULA. It is simple.

There is absolutely no reason that you should need to run that many GW2 accounts on one computer unless you’re doing so for suspicious purposes…

Make a copy of the GW2.dat file somewhere safe and then delete the Guild Wars 2 folder/application. Download the installer from the main website and begin the installation again. You can stop it once it starts downloading all the game files and just put the gw2.dat that you backed up inside the folder to replace the new one that the installer has created. It might just be that the game is looking for something in the wrong place?

One small suggestion to people. Open up System Preferences>>Security and Privacy>>General. There is a bit where it says “Allow apps downloaded from…” Try changing that to Anywhere and seeing if the installer works after that?

Might have something to do with support staff being reduced at NCSoft West. It’s hard to tell. Still, things might get better once the new support structure is up and running. Time will tell.
.

Shouldn’t have anything to do with it. Those support staff were specifically for NCSoft accounts and the accounts of games that were run through the master account system (e.g. Aion), they’ve never had anything to do with Guild Wars 2 accounts and they haven’t had anything to do with Guild Wars 1 accounts for quite some time.

It shouldn’t even matter that it’s linked to GW2. We’ve all PAID for our GW1 accounts, there is absolutely no excuse for not responding to issues where people aren’t able to access the account that they’ve paid for in a timely manner. It’s really really poor on their part.

Except for the fact that the game itself is in maintenance mode you mean?
How long should they have a full set of support personal for it though? 10 years? 20 years? Forever?
Guild Wars 1 basically generates no money anymore, thus they can’t really justify having a full support team for it. Simple as that.

That isn’t how it works. When you buy a product you enter into a legal transaction with the seller. It doesn’t matter if the game is in maintenance mode, there has never been any indication that support has ceased for the game, nor have they stopped selling it. Sure they can’t justify having a dedicated support team for it, but if they’re going to still be doing things to the game that cause people to be locked out of their accounts (and it appears that they have done something which has cause a lot of people to be locked out for no reason), then they have a responsibility to support their customers. They’ve said that GW1 support tickets would be handled by the GW2 support staff, and yet they aren’t even doing that. Which is a pretty huge problem, to say you’re going to do something and not actually be doing it.
