People you need to read everything, I got one as well HOT is coming out and they want what you got. I saw the warning by Anet as well so here’s what I did. I didn’t delete it, I went to, Game Menu, Support, Report a Bug, User Interface, Mail, then stated the situation took screenshot of E-Mail and sent report.
So they could have proof of the sender and ban his butt perma.

No need to do all those step. There is report button on the mail you can click. You bug report probably went to some person not deal with mail scam. Bug report for thing broke in game.

We are both talking about in game mail right? Because all I had working on mine was, compose reply and delete there were no other options.
As you say that was not the right department but I was not about to let this issue caused by a braindead moron to go unanswered.
Thanks for the advice.

See the little exclamation mark in this picture: https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/207458/667dadfb16cd24d52e15af264e5ef85e.png
That is the report button.
Alternatively you can type /report into the chat box.

Make sure you’re using your email address to log in, not your username. Make sure capslock isn’t on or anything like that. If you’ve reset the password and it is working just fine to log into the website, then it should also work on the client.

it’s already quite visible, some people will always ignore it

People panic because they get a message which sounds a little bit scary. A lot of people unfortunately miss the warning because they’re already busy panicking.

If the warning were at the top of the message, then perhaps people would see that first before they started panicking, and would then correctly recognise it as a scam.

People seem to consistently have problems with this and it pops up on the forums all the time. You’d hope that people would be a bit smarter about it and read, but since they don’t and it is a big problem maybe moving the message would be beneficial?

Contact Arenanet support ASAP through the official website. Change your game password. Change your email password. Change all of your passwords. DO it as soon as possible and you won’t have anything to worry about.

If you gave them bank or credit card details then contact your bank ASAP and get their advice.

Buying hard copy of HOT with existing account

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

Even buying a hard copy you’ll still be required to download a very large number of files. Discs cannot keep up with the frequent patches that go on with MMOs.

Keep in mind that buying a digital copy of Heart of Thorns doesn’t mean you have to download 30GB. It uses the exact same launcher as GW2 and the GW2 launcher will patch everyones game when HoT releases. So if you’ve already got GW2 installed patching it when HoT releases shouldn’t actually be too big a download.

The game key is tied to your account. If you want to make your existing account a HoT account then you’ll need to apply the new key to your existing account. Otherwise you would end up making a new account and having to play the existing game content again to reach the HoT content.

Guild Wars 1 "update"

It costs money to maintain a game and it costs money to hire staff to maintain said game. They obviously thought about it a lot and decided that any future sales wouldn’t cover the costs of having permanent staff working on the game. It’s 10 years old. You can’t really expect that they would continue to update it.

It’s unfortunate, but thats how it is.

Try this:
you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps however, it will lose all saved log in/password and in-game settings.
To access this:
1 Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock or the desktop of your computer to make “Finder” the active program in the finder menu bar.
2 Hold down the “Option” key on your keyboard while clicking “Go” in the finder menu bar. A drop-down will appear.
3 While still holding down the “Option” key, click on “Library” in the “Go” drop-down.
4 Once in the Library folder click on Application Support > Guild Wars 2
5 Move the entire Guild Wars 2 folder to the trash and then empty the trash.
The next time you launch Guild Wars 2 it will recreate the recently deleted folder.

Even if you’ve already tried that, try it again.

As Healix says, the only files that need to be moved are GW2.exe and GW2.dat
For most people those will be in a logical place like your games folder, the root of your use drive, or your desktop. You just grab your Guild Wars 2 folder and move it. It’s not complicated.

You don’t need to replicate folder names or paths either. You can have the .dat and .exe placed anywhere in any folder together and the game will run…

I quit the game probably 3 times because it’s hopeless, and what’s worse is that my mbp has no chance of bootcamping what so ever (cd-room doesn’t work and parallels/usb booting is not viable).

You can actually install bootcamp/windows without a cd rom on a MBP that can’t boot USB’s. I’ve done it with my 2011 MBP. It’s a bit of a complicated process, but it is doable. It involves installing Windows in a virtual box which is free software (you just need the iso on your dekstop to do that), and then altering some of the files in that windows virtual machine. Then you create a copy of that windows installation using WinClone. Begin the bootcamp process so that it creates a separate partition for windows. Boot back into mac and use WinClone to paste the copy of windows you made onto the freshly made partition. So if you really want to install Windows to play the game it can be done and I would be willing to give you more detailed instructions.

Account ban scam mails?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

While the links may appear real as text, the actual links are potentially fake.

Just because it looks real doesn’t mean it is. The links in that email are just text, they can make them look however they want, if you look at the actual link (if you use google chrome you can hover a link to see what it actually direct to) then it most likely goes to a different website.

These kinds of emails are sent out as mass spam – you aren’t being targeted for having a GW2 account. Plenty of people without accounts will get the exact same email. The scammers are just relying on a couple of people who do have accounts getting the email and clicking the links.

Basically. Don’t trust that email. Instead, if you are worried about your account at all, log in on the official guildwars2.com website, change your password, and submit a support ticket through the proper link.

Where Can I Get Help Activating Guild Wars 1?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

Because Guild Wars 1 is a 10 year old game that is no longer supported and is in maintenance mode. The GW1 system was set up different to how GW2 is set up and it was done with the expectation that most people would be moving from GW1 to GW2. I don’t think they’re really overly concerned about new players to GW1.

It’s worth pointing out that Trion is both publisher and developer. Arenanet is just the developer, their games are published/distributed by NCSoft and as such they’re not in total control of everything. You’re not making a fair comparison.

The account is actually one account – once you link them together. But yes you do have to create a ‘separate’ account to begin with. It might be in part because GW1 used to be linked to the NCSoft account system.

Use the same email address and the same password and then link them together (at which point changing the password on one changes it for both). It’s not exactly difficult and you don’t really have a choice. Anet are unlikely to go back and change anything relating to GW1 at this point given that so few people are buying GW1 at this stage and most of them probably don’t have a huge problem with creating an account.

Lower your graphics settings. GW2 is a very CPU intensive program and when you’re running it on mac it is running through a cider wrapper. Performance is going to be bad, you’re going to have crashes. THere’s not really any way to fix the crashes from your end, unfortunately they’re caused by the application being incredibly poorly (read not) supported.

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

The game might run, but if it does it will be incredibly poorly. The macbook only has a core m processor, which really isn’t designed for playing games at all. It’s also not supported by GW2 as for the OSX client you’re supposed to have a core i5 processor or higher.

I would strongly advise against trying to run GW2 on the macbook. You’re just going to seriously overheat it and kill the machine. You would be much much better off purchasing a macbook air or a retina 13 inch (which isn’t very thick anyway).

On the Pre-purchase page there is an asterisk next to the Free Veteran Character slot bit. If you actually click that, and it is clearly a link, then it quite explicitly tells you that after July 10th the character slots will be distributed on a weekly basis.

“Free character slot
If you registered your core Guild Wars 2 game before January 23, 2015 and register a pre-purchase serial code for Heart of Thorns any time before the expansion is released, you’ll receive a free character slot! Once you apply a pre-purchase serial code, you’ll be eligible for the slot regardless of where you bought the core game.

If the serial code you used to register the core game came from a retail vendor (rather than buy.guildwars2.com or in-game) and was applied to your account between January 23, 2015 and June 16, 2015, you’ll also be eligible for a free character slot if you apply a Heart of Thorns pre-purchase serial code before the expansion release.

All accounts that become eligible by July 9 will have their free character slot applied by July 10. Eligible accounts that are upgraded with a pre-purchase serial code after July 10 will receive their slots on a weekly basis after that."

My biggest suggestion – download the latest version of the AMD catalyst software and update your drivers. As long as your computer doesn’t have any viruses and your email account and Guild Wars account are secure you’re not going to run into any problems.

I understand that it might seem scary buying something online if you haven’t done it before, however as Figlilly says, if you’re making a purchase through a reputable company like Arenanet then you’re unlikely to run into any problems provided your computer is virus and malware free.

Just make sure that you buy directly from the guild wars 2 website.

Also just a heads up, running your web browser in private mode just stops it from saving cookies or text that you enter. It’s not going to make your purchase more secure unless you’re worried about someone else with access to your computer using your information.

As Beldin points out, the GW2.dat is the file that holds all of GW2’s data. So if you don’t want to reinstall the entire game later then make a copy of that file (probably around 20GB) so that you can copy it back later.

Unless you have a USB or external hard drive to put the dat on then there isn’t much point uninstalling. Deleting everything other than the dat file will only save you a few mb’s.
