Magic find - current state and improvements?

These claims about what MF affects and what it does not are very difficult to prove. It mostly goes with whatever way you believe it works.

So before asking question about its usefulness, you first need to provide proper test results. Are pop-up chests, map-wide metas and map currency not affected by MF? Prove it.

Actually it’s not difficult to prove given it was outright stated by a dev.
This is a direct quote from Isaiah Cartwright:
“They only work on creature kills, chests however have a better table then normal kills. We wanted to avoid the game play of killing a boss and then having to equip your whole Magic Find set before opening the chest.
Also magic find is calculated from when the creature is killed so it’s also not viable to use your normal gear set kill a boss then switch to magic find.”

Of course it could have changed since then, however there’s no reason to believe that it has when all indications suggest otherwise.

Is anyone able to explain this to me? I don’t really understand what it’s showing. It looks like there’s a small amount of package loss once it hits NCsoft, however what concerns me are the large gaps with 100% package loss. I assume those shouldn’t be there?

Until recently I hadn’t experienced any ping issues but I now get situations where it’s going up to 1000ms in game which is unplayable (usually it sits around 100-200 which is fine).

Those two files. The GW2.exe and the GW2.dat are indeed the only files you need to play the game. And yes if you want to do a clean uninstall you can just get rid of those two files. There should be another Guild Wars folder in your user/documents area, this is where the game stores screenshots, so you could also delete that. (moving the .dat or .exe will not negatively impact this other folder so you can move the game safely!)

Wow. That was super interesting to read! Never would have known. It irks me a little that they’re so willing to make a change based on one twitch streamers issue (when there are a lot of other issues brought up in the forums or written about in detail elsewhere on the internet that are ignored and shouldn’t be). But really interesting nonetheless! I’m glad they didn’t just outright change it, would have been frustrating not having compact so close to deposit for me xD.

I never understood people argue this way. I mean how are anything going to change? What you feel is important others don’t. So if they fix something that you want, then that is the right thing? What about the people that don’t care at all about what you feel is important? Does it mean they fixed the wrong things? What would be the most important then and who decide?

Isn’t the most important thing that they DO change stuff? It might not be your thing, but it is a thing they change, which they should have credit for.

That’s not at all what I’m saying. I agree that just because the change isn’t important or doesn’t impact me doesn’t mean it shouldn’t still be changed, and I’ve said as much. Perhaps if you read my post earlier in the thread you would have a complete understanding of what I was saying?

What I was pointing out in that post is that I take issue with Arenanet making a change based purely on the happenings/rantings of a twitch streamer. People are continually bringing up issues and quality of life changes that would help the game, so it seems really strange to me that in a sea of really great suggestions one of the few that gets attention and action is because of a single player?

Obviously it is important for Arenanet to listen to their players and make changes based on feedback. The fact that they made this particular change in such an unobtrusive way is great! I absolutely support they way they did that. It just makes me wary when the only people who seem to have voices are the ones who aren’t actually representing the majority of the playerbase.

FlamingFoxx.1305

The problem is that those players aren’t posting in the living world section absent mindedly, they’re doing it because they get the most exposure there. People don’t necessarily want to go looking in the FoTM/dungeon tab, they just sort of expect everything to be in the LW tab.

The solution would be to not have a default tab and instead force players to click which tab they want to look at (as in, when you open the LFG window it shouldn’t show you anything other than the tabs).

I have to agree with Belzebu. It’s actually a very complicated process and would require a lot of dev resources and time. It’s not really worth it in the end, especially because people would be able to make inappropriate animations and you wouldn’t actually have any way of policing them. You suggest a profanity filter, but there’s no way for the system to recognise when something is inappropriate.

I don’t see what the problem is with them adding an option. Just because you don’y need or want that option doesn’t make those who do idiots. Drop the superior attitude. It’s not needed.

I use invisible bag slots and I like the compact button where it is, I’ve never accidentally clicked something I didn’t mean to. But clearly other people have. And if there are people who don’t need the compact button that much then why shouldnt they be able to have it moved down and out of the way? I used the compact button a lot and my bags mean I don’t have to worry about it, but that doesn’t mean its the same for everyone, and it doesn’t make those people stupid…

Your ping and latency in other applications is irrelevant. It is your ping to the Austin TX servers that GW2 uses that is important. When you’re in game and experiencing ping issues type /ip into the chat box, which will give you an IP. Then you can test your ping to that IP outside of the game and see if/where packet loss or latency are occurring.

It turns out there are no meta-events in Tyria for the bar to apply to.

While not in the same way as HoT, there are still plenty of meta events in Tyria. Most maps have at least one meta. They’re much shorter chains than HoT and not necessarily ongoing, but they’re still there and could be beefed up to make the older maps more enticing.

I’ve just come back to the game after taking a break for a couple of months and I’m really liking the map bonus rewards, I think they’re a great idea.

I was however wondering why there’s no progress bar for these in central Tyria? In the HoT map you can turn on a little progress bar above the mini map, and I can’t figure out what you can’t also do this in central Tyria?

-edit-
Have just found out that the difference between the two is that the HoT maps have a “meta reward” as opposed to a bonus. I think it would be a great idea if the meta reward concept was extended to the central Tyria maps.

Arenanet have stopped developing the dungeons and have essentially decided that FoTM, Raids, and LS content are the way forward. It is a massive massive shame. I’d love to see them revamp dungeons a little and make them viable play options.

can anybody tell me how to check the progress of bug reports please? I reported a bug about the end of torn from the sky 11 days ago and there has been now fix yet. Which means that I cannot play with any character at all now.

Bug reports do not get progress reported on them. However it sounds like what you’re experiencing is an account based issue. If you haven’t already you should submit a support ticket so that you can get the issue resolved.

You should read the other posts first. It was not a bug.

I know it’s not a bug O_o… That’s why I was telling the person to submit a support ticket instead of a bug report, because they aren’t going to get any kind of response on a bug report? Did you even read what the person I was responding to was saying? It’s different to what the OP was talking about.

This is a little bit silly, but ok then since you persist. Khisanth.2948 have already given the clear answer to why his glider is not working. It was very clear, and when he done it, the glider will work. So submitting a ticket is not really helping, since what was wrong was that he misunderstood the instructions, which i can understand that he did because it is not superclear how this works when you first starts.

I hope this clear out what it was i was trying to say that it is good to read the answers given first to make sure a missunderstanding or further more confusion is added

I was directly responding to the person after that who was talking about a bug that was preventing them from playing their characters? They don’t specifically mention gliding or that they’re having the same issue is the OP, so I treated it as such with the response. Suggesting that if they’re unable to play their characters then they need to submit a support request instead of a bug report. “I cannot play any character at all” sounds like a very different issue to ‘I thought I had unlocked gliding and fell to my death’ don’t you agree?

I did read the answers before then, and I did not think the post that I replied to was directly related or talking about the same issue, which would be supported by the fact that they didn’t read the response above theirs before they posted and go “oh I can’t glide there, well that explains that.”

Take your own advice perhaps and actually read the answers people are giving?

Why do you have to solo story mode. I run story modes with my guild all the time. Not sure why more people don’t play with friends.

I agree that there’s no need to solo, but people do for various reasons. I’m in a very active group and lots of people are willing to help out with things, however that doesn’t mean someone is always readily available to help (they might be doing fractals or something else etc). People who have less time to play might have a bit more trouble finding someone able to help them out at a specific time. Not to say it can’t be done, just pointing out that sometimes it can be a bit beyond a persons control. The main story content should be soloable for casual players (not saying it isn’t already either, just clearly some people find it quite difficult). I think there are tons of ways to bring in optional challenge without making it difficult for people to complete the story.

Do I need HoT before 80?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

You can’t play HoT until you reach level 80 anyway, so there’s no need for you to purchase HoT until you reach level 80 with a character You won’y miss out on anything. The big exception is if you wanted your new character to be the new Revenant profession, which you would need to buy HoT to play.

Ah cool, I was thinking maybe they changed the earlier zones or added new pvp maps to HoT players only.

Good to know, thanks for the info!

You need HoT for 2 of the 4 stronghold spvp heroes. And the elite specialisations.

Elite specialisations don’t unlock until level 80 anyway though right? Meaning OP can hold off on purchasing HoT until then.

FlamingFoxx.1305

Even being aware that you just need to tap the jump key doesn’t mean you’re not going to accidentally set off gliding once or twice, which in a Jumping Puzzle is a massive problem.

I have a tendency to go through JP’s rather quickly which means I tap jump rapidly for smaller areas and then if there’s a large jump I’m used to holding it down (because it stops me from accidentally pressing it again and jumping to my death). That’s a behaviour I have to unlearn because of the glider.

No it’s not a huge issue, but it would be really nice to be able to map the deploy key to something else, or disable it temporarily. Just as it would be nice to be able to disable the commander speed boost in towns (which made it difficult for me to do Troll’s Revenge in LA because there are lots of smaller jumps).

Just because it doesn’t effect you Just a Flesh Wound, doesn’t mean it’s not an issue or doesn’t need addressing.

is there any way to increase the size of the UI further than larger setting?

i am running gw2 on a PG27AQ (27" 4k with G-Sync)

also i keep losing my mouse pointer because of its size

I think there’s an option in the settings that will help you keep track of your mouse pointer. It makes the cursor larger if you shake the mouse or something like that.

I’ll look into the videos since that’s something that would be really helpful but if there was anything for recent to address the issue FlamingFoxx brought up that would be awesome! I still don’t have HoT though so I’m not sure how big of an issue it would be.

There have still been a lot of changes to the core game post-LWS2 and HoT that will affect you even if you don’t have HoT. Central Tyria - Visual Update

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

GW2 is going for a specific kind of atmosphere and I’m sure that most players actually appreciate GW2’s world design. I don’t really think the landscape or mobs are bland… GW2 has a lot of really cool looking enemies and it does a great job of mixing together realistic looking landscapes with some more interesting and visually stunning locations.

On the note of pirates. Do you really think they would just have treasure lying around? That’s such a fantasy trope – giant piles of treasure and coins everywhere right! But that makes absolutely no sense. Doing so just makes your treasure very easy to steal and puts a giant target on your own head and on your base. Pirates in Tyria probably do the sensible thing like everyone else and keep all their loot in the bank, or hide it somewhere out of sight…

Most of the humanoid mobs have no reason to be well dressed. A bandit is a bandit, they’re usually not particularly wealthy and it’s in their best interests to blend in visually so they don’t call attention to themselves.

Tyria is already littered with a lot of decorative pieces and interesting architecture. It may just be that it doesn’t seem so to you because you’re used to playing Asian MMO’s, which have a very different design, or maybe GW2’s style just isn’t for you?

Yea I hear all this about young characters getting killed is unethical and all this but that never stops other games from doing it. kitten I’ve got toons on blade and soul that look young and I never see these getting complained about? Soooo?

Blade and Soul has a Mature rating, as opposed to GW2’s Teen rating, which they’ve been quite specific in the past about wanting to retain (using Taimi as an example). Just because other games do it doesn’t mean it’s ok. Also a LOT of people complain about the Lyn in BnS, just like they complain about the Elin in Tera… And rightly so.
If you can understand what people are saying about it being unethical, then how does that make ‘other games do it’ a legitimate reason for GW2 to do so?

(I don’t mean to discourage the OP, just to remind them that it’s not enough to say, “I was young and foolish”.)

I do mean to discourage them from submitting these tickets.

He admits he broke the rules and his only explanation is that he was young…there’s some things that people should not bother support with while there’s much larger issues at hand.

Support are literally there to help solve issues so that people can play the game. There’s no bigger goal they’re working towards and I don’t think you really get to decide what issues should be their priority.

While “I was young” isn’t the best excuse, it is somewhat valid. People do make poor decisions when they’re younger. Children don’t have fully developed brains or morality complexes. They often lack the ability to make informed or mature decisions (though plenty of adults struggle with that too).

While I can’t say whether or not OP should be unbanned, we don’t know what the original offence was, there’s absolutely no reason not to submit a support ticket. It’s likely going to be a very quick yes or no for them and will take up maybe 10 minutes maximum. When you purchase a good you should be entitled to the same support everyone else is.

I’ve logged on a couple of times with the intent of getting Silver/Gold in a couple of adventures, but due to the nature of the maps I haven’t actually got a chance to do them in those play sessions because they weren’t active. It’s not a massive problem, there are plenty of other things to do, it just feels frustrating to not be able to play the content at any time. Which seems to be quite a departure from core Tyria.

? want to a menu sistem that auto working queue when you want to enter any danguen as like other mmo has.

They’ve specifically avoided putting in an auto-queue because it encourages PUGs (pick up groups). By using LFG tool that is in game players at least have to interact with one another in some way. It is how it is to encourage interaction and to get the point across to people that raids are going to require a lot of coordination.

It’s not their fault that you can’t be bothered actually interacting with other people…
GW2 is not every other F2P mmo out there. If you’re not enjoying it then go play something else.

Oh please, stop this ludicrous argument, you can join a group via LFG and never say a word.

Oh and where did he mention raids .. he said DUNGEON so even that aspect of your rebuttal fails totally.

“why no have queque mod for raid”
That sure looks like the word raid to me, and it’s right in the first sentence the OP posted.
Regardless, similar applies to dungeons or fractals. PUGS are obviously fine in both of those (not so much high level fractals), but people do still need to communicate and pretty much always do. I’m sure people who speedrun dungeons probably do so in complete silence, but the LFG tool enables them to specifically advertise for other speedrunners, which highlights why it’s actually important to have the LFG tool. A queue isn’t going to protect new players from the toxicity that speedrunners often exhibit towards people who haven’t done the content before.

And whilst you can join a group in LFG and never say a word, for the most part forcing people to make some kind of advertisement does create a platform for communication. It’s a huge step away from other games where you enter a queue which automatically puts you in a group and then transports all of you into the raid/dungeon without anyone ever communicating whether or not the group set up is going to work or talking about roles or strategies.

Not once have I entered into a group through LFG where nobody has communicated afterwards… That’s quite different to something like FFXIV which automatically matches people up only to have everyone run through the dungeon in complete silence. And sure it still works just fine when you’re matches up with others like that, but it really does create a different atmosphere, and an atmosphere that GW2 is trying to steer clear of.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

Honestly I don’t think Not so secret is so bad once you get the hang of it, but then JP’s are one of my favourite things to do in game. The new Lions Arch one, Troll’s Revenge, is awful for the same reasons though. It takes a long time to complete, any falls mean you have to start from the beginning, and it has a lot of bits that require you to land on small platforms or walk across pixel thin ropes.

It just shocks me. If you look at all of the original Jumping Puzzles you see so many examples of great design. I can’t think of any of the JP’s from the base game that required you to walk along stupidly thin things, and most of them have large platforms to jump on and aren’t even that fiddly. They’re still incredibly fun. Arenanet really needs to have a rethink on the whole JP thing. The new ones have a horrible tendency to just rely on very small platforms and ropes to make them “challenging”. It’s poor design.

It’s not really a very good idea, you’re not supposed to be able to see who someone is targeting.

I was also having issues. More so a couple of hours ago, it seemed to even out for me this evening. But it was really really bad and sitting above 1000 ms for ping.
I’m in NZ and my ping is usually between 150 and 200 at worst.

Do you have any pending transactions/for sale items on the trading post that could be incurring a transaction fee?

What folder are you running the installer from?
Try creating a folder on the desktop, put the gw2.exe file in that folder and nothing else, and then run the .exe
If you do that does it still crash?

Precusor Crafting

Crafting a precursor is, as others have pointed out, a long term goal. It’s for those who don’t want to do it by spending money on the TP. As such, if you try and do it short term by purchasing all the materials from the TP it is going to end up being VERY VERY expensive.

Why are raids designed backwards?

If enemies, especially bosses, targeted players with the lowest defence first then there would be very little incentive for players to play those classes. Meanwhile the players with high defence would be left alive the longest, and have the easiest time against the enemy.

Instead, players who will die quickly are infrequently targeted. That way in the event they do become the target they feel a very real threat but still have a chance to win, meanwhile the players with high defence can take the brunt of the damage but still need to be careful about what they’re doing.

The way it is set up may not seem logical in a real warfare type situation, but it’s necessary to making fights in an MMO seem balanced regardless of the inequalities or differences between different professions.

It really depends. If your first and last name are both quite common or generic names then it’s absolutely going to be a coincidence. Names aren’t as unique (even name combinations) as we would like to think. You could try googling your own name, or typing it in on Facebook, to see how many other people have the same name as you.

If your account was compromised it is very unlikely someone would leave your account untouched and then make a character with your name just to taunt you.

Honestly unless you have a very very unique name I would chalk it up to coincidence. I don’t think you have anything to worry about!
