Bug: No Golden Wings in Glider Skins Panel

For me it actually appeared after I transmuted my wings back to my other back piece (I didn’t relog, I was raiding) . I’m remembering it better now that I think of it. So not really even a minor issue. I think they should put resources into since there’s a lot larger issues to fix. But that’s just me.

I don’t really think it’s something that needs resources put into it though. It should be a very very simple check as to why it’s not behaving like the other glider skins. Most likely they would just need to copy a bit of code from the hawk wings, since aside from the texture they’re identical.

I’m like 90% sure the same thing happened to me. When I switched characters the icon was there. It was not there initially. Just try clicking around/ switching character/ changing back pieces etc

Intended wasn’t the right word. It’s more of a thing that just happens but is not a huge deal and fixed itself as soon as you’d actually need to be able to select it.

You’re right. I’ve just logged in now and the icon is there. However it definitely wasn’t when I first purchased (I went through each skin one by one and I specifically remember the positioning of the white wings in the hero panel, and those have now shifted down a line). Obviously it’s fine since it does appear when you relog, however it seems weird that it doesn’t appear in the panel until after you’ve purchased it and relogged. Especially when all other skins show up regardless, even the ones currently for sale.

So crises averted. However there is some kind of bug or mishap that’s stopping the skin showing up in the Hero Panel before and straight after it’s been purchased.

The golden wings are kind of hard to distinguish in the glider skins panel. They have a purple background and use the same icon as the hawk wings. You do initially need to double click on the glider wing item in your inventory after you purchase the set in order to add it to your glider skins list – only the backpack wings are unlocked on purchase I think (?).

I have double clicked and unlocked the inventory item. I’m reasonably sure they aren’t showing up, considering I sequentially went through and moused over every backpiece when I realised I couldn’t see them. I know what the icon looks like, because the icon shows next to my character as the equipped glider skin. The icon just isn’t in the place where it should be with all the other glider skins.

Repairing the client isn’t likely to do anything. I’m not having any other issues and the icons in the Hero panel and in your Inventory etc are all loaded directly from the server, meaning every time you open the game you can watch them load in (if you’re quick enough).

I don’t understand how it could be intended?

When you go to the Hero Panel and change to the glider skin sections ALL glider skins show up, even the ones you don’t own, just with a little lock on them. The golden wings do not show up in there, even before they’re purchased.

I had my black wings on before, and even with them as the active skin they still showed up in the panel, meaning I could actively change between them and any of my other skins. I don’t really want to test clicking another skin at the moment, because I don’t think there’s any way for me to reselect the golden wings. However as you suggest trying it out on another character is definitely a good idea and I’ll try that when I’m next in game.

I’ll also make sure I grab a screenshot when I’m next in game so it’s easy to see that it’s simply not there.

Do i need to re-buy Guild Wars to play HOT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

It’s not a bundle. That $50 is the cost of Heart of Thorns. New players simply get the core game for free if they purchase HoT (and it’s worth noting that the core GW2 game is free to play now anyway, with some heavy restrictions). GW2’s base game is no longer purchasable as a standalone product. In purchasing HoT new players just get access to core GW2, with the free to play restrictions removed. Which is pretty fair. Anyone who has already owned GW2 before the free to play conversion has the added benefit of having been able to play the game for the last x number of years and gain a serious advantage over newer players. They also don’t have to play with any restrictions and can jump straight into the HoT content, whereas a new player has a whole lot of game to play before they get to HoT.

If you want to play HoT you’ll need to purchase the $50 version, or one of the other editions, and apply the serial you receive to your existing account.

I just purchased the Golden Wings Set in the gem store and unlocked both the glider and backpack skins. I have the golden wings active as my current glider skin, however in the Glider Skins section of the hero panel the golden wings don’t actually have a selectable icon. It shows them as my active skin, but if I were to change to another skin there isn’t any icon to change back to the golden wings. Which is obviously a huge problem considering its an item that costs real money.

The idiom “like hell”

You’ve never heard someone tell someone else they better “Run like hell”?

Sounds very American? Don’t most people say “Run like the wind” if they want someone to run fast? Just because people say that doesn’t make it a correct use of the idiom. (Though of course language changes over time). To me it’s in line with how americans say “she killed the performance” or something similar to mean that they did an amazing job. Whereas in pretty much any other English speaking country to say that someone “killed it” would mean they did awfully. Which is a more logical use of the word based on its denotative meaning.

Upgrade to ultimate edition?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

It’s worth pointing out that the only benefit the Ultimate edition offers is an extra 4000 gems. Which is why you can’t upgrade to it. (The cost to upgrade would be different to the cost of having right out purchased it, therefore losing Arenanet money on the gems).

So while you can’t upgrade to the Ultimate edition, you can upgrade to deluxe, gaining all the items you may have missed out on, and then make a purchase of gems, effectively getting the same thing as Ultimate.

And these projects are probably where a lot of Guild Wars 2’s early profits went into. /sigh

That game is developed by NCSoft, not by Arenanet. It’s doubtful Arenanet would actually have had anything to do with it. As a subsidiary of NCSoft their IP is subject to NCSoft’s use in things like this. It doesn’t have a lot to do with GW2’s profits.

This is off topic, but what OP said is actually correct. The idiom “like hell” means poorly or bad. So saying it was running like hell means it was running poorly…

Gem skins useless early on?

Yes you would have to reskin every time you got new armour.
I’d strongly suggest holding out until you reach level 80.
That being said, when you purchase a skin it goes into your wardrobe meaning you can use it over and over again, as long as you have transmutation charges (which you get a decent amount of just for playing the game).
If there was a limited time skin you wanted to purchase you should do that now. Once you purchase you receive a physical item that will allow you to apply the skin for free (the first time), so you could just hold onto that.

[Suggestion] Smaller Festivals

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

A lot of people would love to see more ‘stuff’ going on in the game, even if minor. Then again, a lot of people would hate it — there were a lot of complaints about Halloween, Wintersday, and Lunar New Year that (a) they were recycled from previous years and (b) there wasn’t enough to do.

Personally, I’m in the first group: I always prefer to see more things going on, to keep the game feel like it’s constantly evolving and part of a living world.

I feel like a lot of those complaints centre around the fact that Halloween and Wintersday should be big festivals and should get new content each year. If they were to make sure that those main events had new content each year, I don’t think people would be bothered by a set of smaller festivals or events that were consistent. I’m definitely in the first group as well though. GW2 does a good job of creating a world that feels alive, something like what OP suggests would just add on to that.

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

Something like that. What really new zones/content did we have in the last three years and a half? But, oh lookey, new wings in the gemstore!

New Zones: The four HoT zones, which are very large – I would say about twice the size of regular zones when you take into account their verticality – Southsun, the revamp of Lions Arch (which sort of happened twice), Dry Top, and the Silverwastes.
That’s 8ish new zones, which is quite a lot. And that’s ignoring all of the other content that occurred in existing zones and all of the story found in the new zones.

Yeah there are new wings in the gemstore. They’re a company not charging a subscription fee for their game. They have to continually sell new things so that they can pay their employees. Or do you have a problem with people being paid for working hard?

There’s been a lot of new content added to the game over it’s life span. We’ve had two massive Living World seasons and an Expansion, as well as countless smaller releases that have seen the WvW maps overhauled, the introduction of EoTM, JP’s added, etc.

It has a Core i7 (2.93 Ghz) with an ATI Radeon HD 5750 (1 GB GDDR5), 16 GB RAM.

No HDMI at all.

Is it possible for you to update your graphics drivers? the AMD website should have them. I recommend using the 13.2 version instead of the newer 15.1 version (which doesn’t support your mac anyway).

It’s strange that it’s only a recent issue.

Have you tried changing the resolution in game to force it to recompile the settings? e.g. maybe try running the game in full screen for a minute and then go back to windowed mode. And make sure that you check which display is being registered as your primary display in windows.

We were killing The Mouth, there was no reason to kill the map, we had basically beaten the Meta!

Where you are in the meta chain has nothing to do with it. If the systems decides that there are too few players in the map it will close it.
You do get a warning though. Players are asked to transfer to a more populated map. If that popup showed up and you all ignored it and chose to keep playing then you did so with the knowledge that the map was going to close at some point.

There are of course things that aren’t perfect, but there’s a lot to appreciate. Doesn’t that mean the map closed because there were too few people in it? I don’t think the megaserver system cares about met progress or anything like that, it’s simply going off the population of that particular map. It doesn’t make sense for a map to be held open wasting server space/traffic just so a small number of players can keep going. Of course if the map was actually reasonably populated then that definitely is an issue.

Why are you demanding the thread be closed?

What I don’t understand is THIS REDDIT POST in which the same “mistake” was made: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3wsxb7/character_name_banned_now_picked_up_by_someone/ …has OVERWHELMING support, with lots of upvotes and positive messages from the community.

Because you wont even say whether or not you’ve submitted a support ticket. That person on Reddit’s name also is not offensive in any way at all.

There are compatibility issues with some macs and HDMI screens that results in flickering. Could that be the issue?

(Also as to it being a graphics card issue, just because it’s only when you’re running the game doesn’t rule that out. The game puts a heavier load on your GPU, so combined with driving a second display that could be putting a strain on it) – what graphics card do you have?

We’re not trying to defend their actions. We are pointing out that the only people who know the full story here are Arenanet. You seem incredibly willing to criticise them for what they’ve done, but the reality is that nobody here aside from them knows the reasoning behind it. We don’t know what prior occurrences may or may not have happened with your account, and we don’t know their reasoning behind it.

Look at it rationally. Instead of waiting for them to reply you’re already vilifying them for their actions. You’ve gone beyond simply stating what has happened to gain awareness of a possible abuse of power. Because you’ve now stated adamantly what you think has happened and how you think it’s an abuse of power, when you don’t actually know their side of the story.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, and I’m not saying that Arenanet’s actions are right. I’m saying until you actually get a response it isn’t constructive to go around throwing accusations.

Yes people need to know how the company is operating. But you haven’t got a response from them. So you dont even know how they’re operating. Wait until you get a response before you start the witch hunt…

I don’t necessarily think elite specs are meant to be seen as a logical conclusion for a profession. They’re just a different line of specialisation. As you point out, it might not make sense for some of the others to gain those elite specs, but that doesn’t mean they’re weaker for not using them. Just as it is still viable for players not to use their elite specs.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that more elite specs are going to be added to the game later, so some of those might be more appropriate for the characters?

The mac client hasn’t been improved, it’s probably actually in a bit of a worse state given that HoT isn’t very well optimised which has put more strain on the mac client.
While the 15 inch MBP is certainly a capable device (though if you’re sticking with the default Intel graphics card then less so), the mac client just really doesn’t work very well.

If you’re set on getting a mac then bootcamp is certainly a viable alternative and the game will run well. However, that requires sacrificing hard drive space to a windows installation, which obviously doesn’t appeal to everyone. I personally play on an older 2011 15 inch MBP, through bootcamp, and the game runs reasonably well, if I had to play on the mac client I wouldn’t be quite so happy though. The mac client suffers from both a performance hit and frequent crashes.

There’s a big difference between “personal stalker” and the other kinds of stalker that have been mentioned. The difference is in one case it’s being used in a combat sense (as in stalking your foes), and in the other it sounds an awful lot like predatory stalking. Which is of course illegal and could be upsetting to anyone who has actually been stalked before. Feel free to appeal the name change, but I strongly suggest you get them to give you a free name change and you change it to something else.

So why is there a “Creepy Stalker” in the game? Surely that would be more upsetting than “Personal Stalker”?

Besides, I’m sure even the most humorless person would find “Personal Stalker” an amusing name for a ranger (rangers of course having a pet jungle stalker option at start up…)

Just because you find something humorous doesn’t mean it isn’t offensive. And it seems as though someone has found it offensive and reported the name because of that.

I agree there shouldn’t be a creepy stalker in game. That name isn’t appropriate either. But the fact that it is there isn’t reason for yours to not have been changed. It simply means that nobody has reported that person for their name. Maybe the player is inactive and hasn’t played in a long time, giving nobody an opportunity to report their name.

Player names aren’t reviewed by Arenanet. It’s up to players to make sure they’re using appropriate names, and it’s also up to players to report those they feel aren’t using appropriate names – which are then reviewed by Arenanet.

If you named your pet “personal stalker” then i could understand the humour, which might override any inappropriateness, but since it was your character name the link isn’t remotely apparent.

You can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: it will lose all saved log in/password and in-game settings, however all game data will be preserved and you won’t have to redownload anything.

To access this:

1 Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock or the desktop of your computer to make “Finder” the active program in the finder menu bar.
2 Hold down the “Option” key on your keyboard while clicking “Go” in the finder menu bar. A drop-down will appear.

4 Once in the Library folder click on Application Support > Guild Wars 2
5 Move the entire Guild Wars 2 folder to the trash and then empty the trash.

The only potential issue that I can see (and I don’t really understand all of this that well to be fair), is the 13% packet loss at hop 5. That loss isn’t carried over to the next hop (number 6) suggesting it’s not a big issue and that hop isn’t on Arenanet’s end, so isn’t something they can help you with.
You only have 3% packet loss at Arenanet’s end, which shouldn’t be resulting in rubber banding.

Do you have periods where the latency is fine? Did you make sure to take that plot while you were having rubber-banding/lag problems? And what did your ping read as in game?

Mederic, I was in the exact same spot as you a year ago. I wanted a gaming laptop primarily for GW2 and also for my fairly extensive steam library of games. I spent weeks researching what was out there and at the end of the day ended up getting this.

ASUS ROG 17.3" GL771JM-DH71 Gaming Laptop w/ NVIDIA GeForce GTX860M 2GB GDDR5 and Optimus Technology, 1TB Hard Drive and 12GB RAM.

Paid $1,036 for it from Amazon. So one year later would I buy it again? Absolutely without reservation. The display is spectacular, it is so quiet you don’t even know it’s running, and I love the keyboard (backlighting is so nice). I’m sure the Leveno is a great product and I seriously considered it but all I can do is tell you about my experience. Oh, and it runs GW2 without breaking a sweat, not to mention everything else I’ve thrown at it.

What do you have your settings at and what is your FPS usually? (considering getting a new laptop).
