I get better drops with no MF and more coins drop w/o the GF buff. In fact I get no coins with the GF on. Will never understand these 2 buffs..

The MF problem is anecdotal, I can clearly see a differences. As for the GF, only mobs who drop gold will be affected or ones who sometimes drop it. It doesn’t mean every mob will drop coin. Usually thiefs/bandits and some other mob types drop coin loot consistently, those are the best to farm with this but I’m not sure which SS mobs have this.

Maybe the consortium mobs from the events? The ones where you have to defend a settler.

Maybe, it could be humanoid mobs, that would make sense.

Is Orr becoming abandoned?

Each time anet fixes orr to make it more attractive, they nerf it again to make it less attractive than before.

Example:

They minimize the amount of cc orian mobs do and increase the chance of getting heavy loot bags and t6 mats.

Orr was packed!

Then, they introduce the new event scaling. Which summons champs that one shot you.

Now Orr is empty again.

Its a vicious cycle. I don’t think anet knows what they want orr to be.

Arenanet: Death good!

http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/49039-female-asura-use-male-asura-armor-models/

Heres a small piece from one of those links:

“yeah, asura females use the male armor models. Also the charr females. Why?
Basically because those armors were designed for male and female humans first, so the male/female version of armors does only make sense for having different female/male appearances (means: different anatomy). Female Charr and Asura do not have a different anatomy (charr females have a different tail, different head-options, but no different body build, asura females do only have different hairstyles and face options).
And because the armors were designed for human models first (except racial armor), they are designed for characters with human anatomy differences between genders. If you have now an armor model designed to show breasts, and give it to an asura or charr, it would look absolutely silly. This is why they wear male armor models, what is completely fine. "

I do agree more could be done, many games have “advisers” which are the programs or apps that scan your system for compatibility with their product. Perhaps they will have this in the future. They do have a game program that scans your info for tech support, that is helpful in many cases as well.

Personally I’m confused why someone would rush to Windows 8 after seeing what Windows… well, EVERY windows before it has done, aside from 7 I don’t mind.

Perhaps you’re confused because are not able to understand that others have different needs and tastes than you?

Secondly, who buys Windows 8 with only 32b? I can’t remember if Windows 8 is like the previous versions where 32b can only handle 3gb of ram, but either way just seems silly to get a newer version with an older less efficient core.

Perhaps you need to consider that there are those out there that have other needs, or limitations than you? I’m not sure what to tell you. If you think buying a 32-bit version of an OS is somehow too crazy to comprehend, then I’m not sure what I can say to you.

Basically all I get from this post is:
I bought Windows 8 with 32b knowing I was doing something silly.
GW2 didn’t work well.
I bought 64bit to spite Arenanet for not catering to my bad choice.
I quit.

Or…

I purchased Win 8 32-bit based on the limitations of my system, software requirements, and the limited way MS upgrades systems (Online purchases only upgrade 32-bit versions to 32-bit versions, simple as that), and because all other games that list minimum requirements have ran just fine in a 32-bit environment.

GW was not open with the true system requirements, and when I experienced issues, I was told the only solution was to purchase a 64-bit version.

I bought a 64-bit version to continue playing the game. I put money that would have otherwise gone into the game, into the OS to play the game. This is, in the end ANet’s loss for not being transparent.

I didn’t quit…I was grumbling through Crab Toss today.

Not sure you really got what you intended, Arenanet got your money, Microsoft got (more) money, and the community no longer has to deal with someone who whines. All in all I would say we are the ones who came out on top. But who knows, maybe I read all that wrong.

snip

I will just say that I do have experience with computers at the college level, though I often forget things time to time. But how I look at games I want to play is that I never do the minimum, I always look at the “suggested” as my personal minimum requirements. Because those specs are what will run the game at least smoothly, and anything above is all the better.

I understand you may have limitations, money, knowledge, time, availability. But in the end you cannot fault a company for not listing the several million setups that do not work with the game. 32 bit DOES work, even on the crappy computer I listed. But they can not write out a million page report on every driver, every cpu, every single spec combination that will not work with GW2. Aside from all that, this is 2013, computers are advancing at alarming levels. In order to keep up it is on the consumer to either continually upgrade components or simply purchase new and better equipment. I bought my own computer years ago, and it is still years away from ever being listed as the “minimum requirements” of any game. It isn’t the best, but it is an investment. And anyone who owns a computer should see it as such. Just as you would buy a house, a car, or any large purchase. A computer is what you will be using hopefully for years to come, and getting the bare bones one now will only cost more in the long run. But there’s nothing wrong with that if its all you can afford, I don’t expect you to go into debt to play a game. But take all that into consideration before blaming the company who made the game.

Alternatives to RNG rarity/rewards

in Suggestions

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

Since this seems to be plastered all over the forum like Burger King plasters mayo over my sandwiches by the pound near me, I figured maybe we could gather some ideas on what would be good alternatives for RNG. Specifically on what Arenanet could do to make rewards rare, yet attainable and unique.

In another thread I talked about redoing Living Story events in a recurring setting, allowing players to get missed achievements and rare gear once again.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Repeating-content-Replaying-living-stories/first#post2039227

Repeating content that is limited time allows a second chance at obtaining items that were introduced with the RNG factor: Boxes, BL Chests, Dungeon Chests.

As for the South Sun chests, the fact that they drop AND can be purchased is a step in the right direction imo. We started with BL chests requiring keys from Gems or Gold>Gems. We then had some chests drop rare items, super rare to some, and there was no other way of obtaining those except for the fact they were made tradeable. Again, sort of a good step in the right direction. Then of course as already mentioned the new things that are available by chance from drops etc.

So as you can see from various threads:
People hate items/skins only obtainable through RNG via gems/gold.
People hate items/skins only obtainable through RNG via chest/loot.
People hate items/skins that EVERYONE has.
People hate items/skins that are only attainable by very few means.

So hopefully Arenanet can see that the answer to making money for the company, and keeping customers happy is a mix and combination of the things listed.

Boxes: Allow them to drop and simply open, with a RNG chance. Also allow them to be purchased via gem store directly at a steep price.

Dungeon Chests: Allow them to continue to be RNG chance in dungeons, continue to allow them to be sold on TP. Also, allow them to be purchased directly from Gem Store for a steep price.

BLTC Chests: Allow special limited skins to remain in chests for longer periods, allow them to be obtainable through other means like finishing the current arc, but just 1 per account.

Additionally, try to add rare/unique skins as alternatives to the three mentioned above. Instead of releasing just 1 skin and tossing it in 1 obtainable aspect of GW2, make a few so people have choices and options on whether to spend gems, finish achievements, or try their luck at RNG dungeons/chests. Having say 3 skins available whether it be back+armor+weapon or any combination, allows players to at least walk away with SOMETHING. I think a combination of all these ideas, or even some is a good step in the right direction. Most of us understand Arenanet needs money to take over and become their own awesome company create new content for us to enjoy and have fun with. So hopefully we can come to some sort of compromise so that everyone is happy, or at least fairly happy.

I’d like to hear others thoughts on this, I don’t mind any criticism on my ideas so long as you back it up with constructive feedback and suggestions of your own. Lets see what we can come up with.

Examples of third party applications that do not give gameplay advantage:
Vent overlay
TS3 overlay
Vent
TeamSpeak
Mumble
Mumble overlay
Browser overlay
Steam overlay
Overlays from recording software used in streaming, such as to put an image over the game that is broadcasted on the stream.
Recording software that records gameplay for streaming or storage.
FPS counter overlay
System time overlay

etc

These sorts of things have their uses and don’t give gameplay advantages. (well you can make an argument that voip software makes it easier to communicate – but the counter argument to that is that people sitting in the same room have that same communication advantage and that voip software eliminates that advantage). Voip software also does not modify the game.

That’s true you could make those arguments but the counter argument doesn’t really counter it but more shows the grey area of “We’ll allow/disallow whatever we want but we aren’t telling you what because we don’t vet third party programs – use your own initiative but you might get banned which is unfortunate”, if they didn’t want any third party software they would emphatically state that. Someone who enjoys soloing is going to be at a disadvantage over those who literally only play in groups and/or use voip software. Aren’t big guilds at an advantage over others? Aren’t veteran players at an advantage? Aren’t those with better hardware at an advantage? Better yet, those people who abuse exploits and bugs, aren’t they just playing the game because ANet put said things in the game? No, they’ll get a warning and/or a ban

ANet need to state that no third party software is allowed, period – oh and implement the simple benign things that people are wanting to use third party software for, maybe then this type of thread would never exist.

No 3rd party apps are allowed in game, theres no discussion. Nothing that interferes with or changes the game. Overlays do not change the game, they do not interact with code or the exe file. It is a clear distinction to anyone, not just computer and programmer savvy people. You can argue the point all you like, in the end if you want to use the program that is on you. We will keep an eye out for your banned forum post, and your question will be answered.

Lamest Ending in Gaming History in my view

What the… What? The DUNGEON was the end of the event, and the dungeon was awesome. You expected something past that? Did you even notice that Rox and Braham parted ways at the very end?

It obviously wasn’t the “end” since the end happened with activating the bonfire. You are confusing end with climax.

I don’t think you know what climax means.

Perhaps you could explain it to me? Most of the feedback I have seen in game, on forums, and in the press was that the MWF was the highlight/best part of the F&F story arc. Had the most action, the most challenge, and most reward of that chapter.

If I go look up the definition for reference it would be
Climax: The point of greatest intensity or force in an ascending series or progression; a culmination

I could be wrong, but it seems that MWF would fit the term climax.

If it was the END to you or anyone else, fine by me. It wasn’t to me.

Just be careful googling that word lol

I agree the bigger stuff like the dungeon was the climax and beating the dungeon entirely and when it was destroyed. After that was the small reward and culmination of everything. A brief interlude between F&F and Southsun beginning.

How does Anet afford this?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rng chests and limited time item deals.

Cheap tactics can net you alot of cash.

Of course, it isnt as cheap as pay2win, so big upps to anet for staying away from that minefield for now.

what you talking about, the game has been pay to win since day one, you can buy legendary weapons which are always BIS

buying top end gear for cash is essentially the definition of pay to win

I can’t tell if sarcastic.. Legendarys are same stats currently as exotics. Top gear in GW2 has nothing to do with stats, but to do with looks. Aside from Ascended which isn’t needed anywhere outside of fractals. If gear actually mattered, then yes, p2w.

That “stats aren’t NEEDED” argument is used in every game. Of course you don’t NEED stats to compete in PvE… but it doesn’t mean you won’t be at a disadvantage to the person who has better stats than you do. I don’t NEED anything beyond white levle 70 or 60 armor to survive the NPCs in WvW… doesn’t mean I’d stand a ghost of a chance against someone who is geared out like my engineer is right now.

And the legendary will always have top end stats. For right now that means exotic. When ascended releases, it will mean ascended.

But in other games you actually DO need those stats. Skilled players in GW2 will easily beat someone in ascended gear in wvw/spvp. Whereas in a game like Aion, top geared players can just faceroll everyone skilled or not. And if/when ascended weapons come, then people will be able to get those as well and they will still not mean insta win like most other games. Gear will never rule this game, ascended was a mistake in most peoples eyes, but more hardcore players wanted gear grind so there they have it. Also, fully ascended people running around wvw will still die to zergs of 30 people wearing greens

what you talking about, the game has been pay to win since day one, you can buy legendary weapons which are always BIS

buying top end gear for cash is essentially the definition of pay to win

I can’t tell if sarcastic.. Legendarys are same stats currently as exotics. Top gear in GW2 has nothing to do with stats, but to do with looks. Aside from Ascended which isn’t needed anywhere outside of fractals. If gear actually mattered, then yes, p2w.

@FourthVariety

“an audience 20 times smaller than WoW” is still 400 -500K. There’s not a lot of MMOs with current populations that large.

Also from what I can glean, box sales for GW2 are assigned as sales income to NC Interactive and NC Europe (since they are handling retail distribution) in those reports and only direct online purchases are assigned to ANet. Likely Gem card sales are assigned the same way.

Yea not a lot of MMO’s with at least 400k+, just:
Aion
FFXI
GW2
Star Wars
Eve

and probably a few others.

I don’t know but I think if another game has it and it work why don’t implemente that in this game. U said as a moderates don’t compare a game that has been 10 year in the market, well there u have the experience of a game that has been in the market 10 year and u don’t learn anything from that game experience?

Copying other games is not an answer. Guild Wars 2 is doing things no other MMO has, they are taking chances on new ideas and a different style of MMO. Being a clone of a game simply because that game does not make the game good. Sometimes you need to step away from what everyone else is doing and think outside the box.

Customer service here is not exactly the same in other games, the engine, the game itself is built differently. They have different tools, and they didn’t just copy over the code either. They learn and adjust as things change, as they stated new tools will be available-new problems will arise, and new tools will be made to counter those.

Then they are like 8 month late with this tool to revert this kind of problem.

You can’t fix “stupid”. Or player errors. I would say a fix to resolve players not paying attention is probably in the works, but the fact that they even need one is a little embarrassing as a fellow gamer.

I often compare these problems with those of real life. Ever see that sign on a giant dangerous machine that says “keep fingers out of holes”? A smart man once told me for every warning sign there is some idiot who was the cause of one being made in the first place. Mcdonalds coffee is HOT, automatic doors open AUTOMATICALLY, if you touch the giant electricity converter behind the fence you will probably die..

Mistakes happen, But now I see u are too close minded

Not closed minded. just realistic. One could argue not putting in a confirm button on everything was a “mistake”, but people don’t address an anet mistake anywhere near how they address a player mistake. @ Anet its like : You broke this you kitten kitten kitten this and kitten that. @ a player its :Oh I’m sorry to hear that you made a mistake, that really sucks. Hmm.. Closed minded is thinking a company should repair player errors or lack of judgement. After all it costs time and money to rectify an error by a player. I see why someone is upset over these things, but at the same time barking at anet for not guaranteeing or making a Guild Wars 2 for dummies, just doesn’t make much sense to me.

I am sorry you are to dense to understand that

Maybe they could have seen that lesson in the other 230 threads about the same issue. People just spend money if they want to spend money, that is their business. Everyone knows full well that the RNG boxes are.. RNG based. It is on them for thinking they can fight the odds, and then come to forums to complain about losing. I don’t think they need a tutorial on not fighting RNG, that should be evident after the very first RNG was in an mmo.

You sound angry that you can’t make X amount of gold every day. My wife plays about 1-3 hours a week on a lowbie character and she makes about 10g a week just running around. People can make 1-10+g an hour in game without ever touching the BLTC other than to press the sell button.. You just sound jealous and petty attacking the devs and other players who understand economics clearly better than you. Probably the best in game trading post I’ve ever seen, and game wide trading post, amazing idea.

PS. I love the low level areas, I find many reasons to come back even if its just to help new people. Since I’m scaled down no worries on loot stealing, xp stealing, its a pretty awesome feature.

Are you even serious?! Like, REALLY?!? Only way to make 1-10+G an hour is farming CoF with an uberparty and you don’t even hit the 10G mark so I’ll just ignore your ignorance. On my moneymaking skills… well, one example, I made 15G with two clicks flipping 1 Infinite Molten Berserker Tonic; so that’s that. I’m sure the loot and xp you gain is awesome; nice job, buddy!! xDD

Lol my ignorance? I just tossed 200 gold into influence because I was bored with having so much…

I’ve never played the TP, not once. I sell my stuff and that’s it. As far as your silly ignorance comment, I’ll let others school you on the fact that it is very possible and quite common to make 2-5g+ an hour for just about anyone. Now you just sound upset. 1-10?

I’ve already made videos on here making at minimum 5g an hour, really need to do your research better before whining on forums.

I mean heck, I even bought rares and salvaged with master kits instead of BL kits just to help the community, knowing full well I’d lose money. Some people in these forums make my brain hurt… carry on.

You know what? Sure, you’re all correct; “It’s functioning very well”… It must be my imagination what is making me see players on mapchat talking about how they can’t even imagine themselves affording a rare dye much less converting their “fortune” (usually less than 10-20G) to gems. I’ll just let you, economy geniuses, do your thing and meanwhile I’ll instruct the fellas on the wonders of using the many webpages and tools to flip, speculate, and exploit the hell out of this ridiculous economy. I’ll be a REAL HERO to them (true story, I’ve gotten many thanks).

On a side note, It’s adorable how you fail so miserably in driving players to low level areas and meanwhile you have LA’s TP causing an overflow (you’d actually think it’s an indication of something, right? ‘giggles’)… simply adorable!! (protip: flip in RataSum for 0 lag, better loading times and proper bank access) Anyhow, I hope you’re all enjoying Tyria, that world of wonder and social stratification.

PS Smith, do they pay you for the attitude? Geessh, keep your kitten together and handle your job like a pro (whatever you do here)… sad, so sad.

You do know that you can buy and sell anywhere in game right? You only need the NPC to pick up.

Lamest Ending in Gaming History in my view

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Geotherma.2395

Ok, so I finish everything but the bonfire visit early, didn’t know Arenanet decided to cut the time in half for completion…they said it would be back up “tomorrow” to finish the event…wasn’t back up till the day after.

FINALLY I can finish that 2 month long turkey, go to Lion’s arch and NO mark on map as to where it is. Call out, get a few smartass “answers” but finally find it (it’s where you turned in all the lost items).

Interact and nothing…nothing at all…no cutscene, no buffs, no rewards, no coin, no title, only way you know you were in the right place is that that section is marked done.

That has got to get the reward for the lamest ending to a long event in gaming history.

: )

They said when it would be introduced the buffs it had would be gone. It did have buffs, it did have an icon on map.

Top Commanders?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

I have no problem with PVE commanders, they help people find things, events, gather people together for player events etc.

As for WvW, I understand some people feel like they deserve it more. I would say the best way to deal with this is to continue to allow anyone to afford the 100g tag, but make a special icon for those who had unlocked many of the tiers of upgrades in wvw. On top of that allow that achievement status to be displayed online, and people could view those who are dedicated to wvw and leading.

PVE commanders would have the simple blue icon, WvW would have the same icon until they unlocked X amount of upgrades or by some other merits.

The Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have a monthly fee argument is a bit moot. Guild Wars 1 was also free to play, and over there we didn’t have a gem store. It’s just a source of extra income which I highly doubt is needed to keep the game free to play.

Expansions were GW1 source of content funding, since expansions here will most likely be free, the gems store is the only source of funding aside from box sales/downloads.

Is this game anti-social?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

I started this game on NSP (Northern Shiverpeaks [US]), and I found many people who were helpful and talkative. I joined a large guild, not intentionally because it was large, but just because I was new. I had fun with the guild and the server for a long time. But recently I started noticing that the main towns etc were kind of quiet. So after 4 months I started guesting for the first time. Now I heard a lot about TC (Tarnished Coast) how it is always busy and many role players there, but they don’t impose any problem on non rp’ers. First logging in at DR I was at the bank and took out some stuff to go cook, turned around and about fell out of my chair. Standing, dancing, chatting, jumping, joking, were about 45 people there. It was full, next city, next maps all the same. So many people all talking and helping.

Well now I really felt like I was in kind of a dead server, and realized I had been missing out on making friends and feeling “alive” in game. Now don’t get me wrong, NSP isn’t dead, and TC isn’t the only lively server. You can guest to 2 servers a day, and find the right one for you. You can try out guilds and decide if you would like to try moving. I would love to move to TC but currently it is full, so I am in a guild there and guest over because the world is so busy. I even encountered infinite overflow in Southsun, which is fine, overflow had just as many people as the regular server.

Right now with the new content most towns and cities might seem a little dead, most are enjoying the new stuff. So you can guest to any 2 servers in US, you can transfer to any non server in US/EU(but EU you can’t guest to “test out” the server). Aside from that you can make friends, because unlike most games friends on different servers can still chat with you any time. We all share the same trading post, we all can guest pretty much anywhere, there is so much room to explore and meet people, it is up to you to do so.

Aside from FFXI in its early years, this is the best community I have seen. And I’m saying that after playing FFXI, WoW, Eve, Aion, Tera, and Rift.

As far as GW1, that is a different game, and technically a different account. So I imagine that you would still be able to log in. It would be like saying they banned me in GW2 now I can’t play Aion. An option to disable right click targeting

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

Last night, I was leveling up my warrior (if I continue, it’ll be my 6th level-80) and I kept accidentally picking up the Banner of Defense that I had placed. After a split second of confusion, I realized this was just another quirk of the right-click targeting system.

Isn’t that really a quirk of the F key? Eg you were trying to loot a mob but instead picked up the banner?

But in general I totally agree. Even a bandaid fix to the right click targeting problem would be much appreciated. It’s really annoying.

I spam F key like an idiot when farming, leads me to collecting many banners and dying while temp raising NPC’s :P
