o.o Why you talken about me bro! :P
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/3000-Heavy-Moldy-Bags/first#post1988123Yeaaaa, thanks for not giving me the source file and making me re-type all your data (I kid.)
Your distribution is pretty close to what the wiki reports.
My point still stands. Unless you show actual data with a large sample size, properly time stamped, you’re not going to be very convincing (Whereas the ecto thread is very convincing.)
Thats why I pretty much always include videos
This was a while ago though as you can see.
On a side note, did you see the 2ish items that only dropped twice? Wacky, just wacky.
(edited by Geotherma.2395)
Just wanted to put all the recorded events of this salvage rate happening in one post.
big and small as they are ALL relevant.
These are all copied from posts in this forumIf there are any more recorded events of this sorry if i missed your post. let me know and ill edit
Again these are all from unique accounts that posted previously on this thread.
For the love of kittens everywhere people.. Please paste the share links not the empty space html ones..
(edited by Geotherma.2395)
There’s a big difference between this thread and the ecto thread. The ecto thread has many detailed data recorded by users in there. The complaint there is a lot more credible. This thread? “I feel like there is a loot nerf.”
Yea, good luck with that. Buy 1000 heavy moldy bags, open it, take a video of it for proof, and compare the amount of stuff you get to the data here:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Heavy_Moldy_Bag/Drop_rate
And then determine if any deviance you have is statistically significant.
o.o Why you talken about me bro! :P

Well someone unleash some kind of computer worm to nuke that video off of YouTube and anywhere else it’s hiding on the Internet. Please. He’s as bad as birthers and truthers.
Search Dontain on the forums to see all the discussions we’ve already had debunking this guy’s opinion on the cash shop, the conference call and the fact ArenaNet as said once again that NCSOFT isn’t speaking for them about an expansion.
I’m not a birther, but his birth certificate is FAKE. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s9StxsFllY
Now with the gem shop Ncsoft has already made comments on how pleased they are with gem shop sales.
I’ve decided that if its true that NCsoft gets the money first and then distributes it among other games I’m going to start sending my gem purchases directly to John Smith :P Maybe Gaile cause shes awesome. I would be like “I would like to support arenanet directly, and want my money to go straight to you guys. But first, open these 6 boxes to see if you got anything this week.” I kid I kid :P Seriously though, an expansion won’t happen till after Wildstar. And gem store sales are doing good, NCsoft better be feeding our people in the big box.
Wonder if they’ll compensate people if they go with the “it’s a bug and not intended” route.
Probably not, but we can always dream ^^ Sure would be nice getting $35 in gems back or the equivalent in BLSK’s lol
I was wondering how they were going to swing that with Wildstar coming out with all of the tools GW2 should have already. I watched the video on youtube about the datamined UI elements with all the fixins on Wildstar basically everything we expected in GW2 will be in Wildstar at launch.
They say that about every MMO that comes out ever, lots of promises and hopes before launch. Same happened with GW2.
I have hope that after Wildstar releases it will be a good time to work on or finish the expansion for GW2.
Or move onto TESO lol.
Nah :P I won’t probably ever leave GW2 as long as they don’t get too bad. I mean after all it is free. I will play teso, and definitely sub to FFXIV with high hopes lol. But no point in leaving a game I already paid for unless it has sent me to the very depths of my soul and then nuked it.. like some games.. ::aion:: cough-cough.

This is probably the most requested feature in the game, not sure why it isn’t implemented yet >.>
This statement is in almost every single thread on forums.
And yet if you take a look around, you’ll see the guy isn’t off the mark. I’m pretty sure dueling is the most requested feature.
So I took a look around.

No problem Colly. The link isn’t related to Skill Delay but it’s just an example of a response from Gameplay Programmer Bill Freist who says he is aware of this issue and making it his priority at the moment.
Again, I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but we don’t have an ETA for a fix at this time.
Ashley that link is totally unrelated to the “Skill Delay” issue, I don’t see anything in that thread from Bill Freist acknowledging the issue of skill delay. Sorry!
Glad you guys are happy
I’m sure we’ll evaluate any additional bugs with multi monitor play and get those addressed in a future update. Until then, addressing the “skill lag” issues are my number 1 priority.
See you guys in-game!

Mind sharing on what your conclusion is based? Because as far as I can remember, the loot nerf that players had reported for months, and which was initially denied by Anet’s staff for months, was eventually confirmed to by Anet to be true. It was caused by a “bug” which ignored people’s contribution to a mob kill to be registered. As a result, they didn’t get any loot.
Nope. You remember it wrong. The bug which made people get less drops when killing enemies with a lot of health, such as champions, had been in the game since release. All that whining about a “nerf” to the drop rate was just that, empty whining.
Just like this.
And this.
And here, too.
And that other time.
And of course here.
If all those topics were true, there would be no ectos in the game anymore.
Ergo, I have proof that this community usually whines over non existing nerfs to drop rates. Do you have proof that loot has EVER been stealth nerfed? No? Such a pity.
Are you going to copy and paste this in every single thread?
This is probably the most requested feature in the game, not sure why it isn’t implemented yet >.>
This statement is in almost every single thread on forums.
It seems inconsistent that we would one day get X result and the next get another. I’ve done hundreds, probably thousands of salvages, and you really get to know the “feel” for what to expect. RNG is always there of course, but anyone who has salvaged 800 rares back to back knows you don’t see 0 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 1 consecutively for 40 rares using a BLSK. And yet the next day (for me) I was getting 1,2,3,0,3,2 etc. This is clearly weird. But I still notice a problem with master kits, and again it seems that not everyone may be having this issue. But to be honest i think that makes it worse. You don’t want to think you are the guy with bad luck, or not know either way. I’d rather think everyone is experiencing this, that would be more comforting. Unfortunately I did spend a decent amount of gems on doing that test and video, just to show that it seems to not be happening ALL the time.
Which is kind of annoying because I didn’t want to spend $35 on proving to others that my previous day experience wasn’t replicated. I don’t regret it entirely I guess, but I wish this wasn’t a hidden problem with random people and was a blanket thing. At least then we could all wait in anticipation of a fix or response. But instead we wait and wonder if we should salvage because no one knows what is really going on 100%. I’m sorry I couldn’t of actually been more help in this thread and posted videos like I always do, and that I haven’t had the gold/cash to replicate the master kits too. I must say the bugs lately are even taking their toll on me, the website, the game… I just really hope more can be done to prevent and detect these things in the future.
Thankfully we have John Smith who is in the right place and clearly knows how to deal with people and problems. For a guy with such a generic name he sure is pretty cool :P
The website will ALWAYS be better than any in game LFG tool. Putting that out there right now.
Once the in game tool is launched, the website is likely to die, better or not better. Less and less people will use it, which will make it not better..even if it turns out to have been better.
I’m guessing the in game tool is harder to grief though. Anyone can post your name on the site. It’s happened to me on a few occasions.
I think you’ll find that people will shun the crap LFG tool for the good website.
I think you will find the website is not as awesome as you think it is. In fact there’s about 20 threads on the elitism and trolling that is there. I could list a hundred reasons why even a poorly looking lfg tool in game would be better. gw2 dragon timer was great too, look where that went. They were good for their time, that time is pretty much in someone elses favor now. No one should have to tab out to group, period.
Edit: Lets not forget Arenanet can control the in game LFG as it is their own. So trolls and such will easily be put in place with a quick report. No fake names, no fake rewards. The lfg site isn’t monitored or moderated, so it already has that against it.
(edited by Geotherma.2395)
I was just there :P and I have to say it is nice seeing players do giveaways to other players. Lately, I have been seeing in games more and more selfishness. But you showed me there are still some kind players out there :P
A lot of those in GW2 ^^
GW2 makes me think about adventuring, it sort of makes me want to get out of the house. Though idk if that’s a good thing for the game lol Although I suppose that is better than Aion. Even though I dislike that game, when I was on a big hill irl I swear I had the urge to glide off… Luckily GW2 keeps my brain grounded :P
They aren’t doing anything wrong. MMO companies keep their players in the dark about everything anyways. They wait to release new features until the time of year that they can make a profit, things like that.
I didn’t say they were doing anything wrong, I just feel like it ruins the surprise. In this instance you can’t even avoid finding out because everyone will talk about it or it is in the title. We need spoilers :P
Considering there isn’t a LFG tool at all….I doubt it lol.
There technically is actually, it is just not like most other MMO’s. But they said they were working on a better one, and this could be it. Kind of wish things wouldn’t be datamined though, I like surprises. And sometimes they see things that won’t be ready for weeks, months, years.. and get hopes up for nothing. I feel like dataminers in MMO’s are like those kids who sneak downstairs on Christmas and open up all the presents and get grounded the next day. Except these guys don’t get grounded.
Kinda wishing I could get those gems back for those salvage kits I don’t usually buy straight out lol.. Could use some more sickles and maybe some boxes..
How can they change the salvage rate, without being aware that they changed it? That is simply mind-bug-ling to me.
That’s just how bugs work :P
There will always be unintended bugs, there are worst ones in history but don’t want to get too far off topic :P
Hopefully this gets fixed or checked soon, John Smith is working on it on the general forums thread.
I don’t see much use for the sickle.
My most unused one of the three.
The mining pick is still my favorite with the whole “lava” animation.
Curious what the axe’ll have.
I wanna think that each tool will be arc themed. First fire from molten arc, then scerite (sp?) for sickle. So we may see the last one have an entirely different look.
You say all that, OP, but then when you have people screaming “Patch notes naooo!” and people that expect major updates every month, it is obvious that some things are missing and some things are not important enough to point out.
Also NCsoft pays the bills, they have the right to say what they want and take game in direction they want. We got GW2 pretty much because GW1 was successful largely due to the way NCsoft pulled out the right financial cards with no sub for example.
Actually we pay the bills lol And whether or not someone says “we want this now” is besides the point. Just because they are successful doesn’t mean they can handle the business anyway they like. the same holds true for any business. Imo everything is important to put into patch notes, it shows integrity, it shows thoroughness. There is a lot more to my post than this.
the water/flower animation now shows after you finish gathering. Not sure if intended, but maybe you like watering the plant for regrowth after done. /shrug
That actually makes sense lol.
It still looks like the big harvesting sickle, the animation is there. Just hard to see sometimes if your on the left side. http://youtu.be/YLiMXV9maCA
I take the hours long silence that John has found signs of the approaching doomsday within the code of GW2, researching this has now claimed his life. Spouting truths within the ANet halls, he has been removed, but he knows the truth. He is going on a spiritual quest to reveal to the world what he has found.
John Smith is,,,,, Batman?! Everything makes so much sense now :P Smart millionaire economist working at a lonely game company. Righting wrongs, fixing bugs, monitoring the trade. But nights.. nights are when he fights true evil! When this thread is over assuming he finds something, we may need another JS is awesome thread :P
Video, plz.
Edit: Made a second vid, couldn’t see the tool in that one-
http://youtu.be/YLiMXV9maCA will take a moment to process.
(edited by Geotherma.2395)
What’s it do now?
Same special animation, but with the regular crouching harvest position for the player character.
It just looks a lil awkward cause its so large lol and the animation comes after. But still, its not too terribly bad. they could always improve it.
Just want to say thank you for the fix, still a lil awkward but way better
Much better than the picksickle we had :P
Anyway, I feel as though John will be thorough and we will get an answer soon.
I suspect he did a cursory look, saw something that piqued his interest, and moved on to a deep dive.
Whatever the public answer, I think it’s going to be interesting.
New build in 1-2 hours… ::crosses fingers:: lol
Just a quick update, I want to be thorough, so it will be a couple more hours before I have anything to say.
There are 2 options to be taken from John’s response in my view:
1. The drop rate shouldn’t have changed so it’s a bug.
2. NCSoft wanted more gem sales by nerfing ecto drops, I better get PR advice on what to say.I hope it’s number 1.
But more than likely number 2…
There are two people that I know don’t mince words or sugar coat things using marketing strategy. John is one, Gaile is another. I have full faith that his research will give us insight on the issue one way or another. They are like the Gordon Ramsays of GW2, minus the bad words. That would be a lot of kittens.
You mean like when Gaile said that the killcredit bug was our perception and not real?
She said that the “nerf” was our perception, and she was correct. The actual problem with loot had to do with a bug, not some insidious plot to terrorize players.
Colin- ". As I mentioned a few weeks ago, we verified that all loot tables are indeed working correctly in the game. "
“Since then, we continued receiving reports that there seemed to be an issue, so we extended our search to all systems that created opportunities for you to get items from loot tables. Here we found an issue that we were able to verify was consistent across everyone who reported problems:” etc etc, not the place for that topic.
Anyway, I feel as though John will be thorough and we will get an answer soon.
(edited by Geotherma.2395)
Oddly, my ecto salvage rate has been perfect recently. I don’t think I’ve salvaged a single rare that hasn’t yielded an ecto in the past week, so it’s strange to hear that everyone else is having exactly the opposite results. It’s all anecdotal until we hear from Jon, but until then, I’m just going to assume that I absorbed all the luck in GW2. Apologies for that, everyone.
Most people are referencing either this month, or this very recent patch.
Just a quick update, I want to be thorough, so it will be a couple more hours before I have anything to say.

I forgot to add that there is a large amount of people who would enjoy having a test server for updates and a survey option in game. Those two things could be part of the change for the better. We don’t mind being the QA team :P
@GuildWars2 is the official. I’m not sure what you mean? You are getting bot spam?
Just to be clear, Anet doesn’t have to publish everything in the patch notes, They owe us nothing, we agreed to their terms and they are beholden to NcSoft, so they can say whatever they want us to hear
They don’t have to no, but if/when we find things not listed that affect the game it ruins credibility. That’s a no-no and business 101. Not saying that is what this is, but there is missing notes.
Hello everyone, I’ll look into this and get back to you.
They sent in “The Man”, it’s serious bsns now
Thank you John Smith, we always appreciate your work ^^

yes, from the anet server, because its designed to not repond to the pings.
From other servers midway in the journey? No idea
Ok, sorry I’m ok with computers but terrible at network stuff :P
I have 20-30% loss (ERR) @ 66.109.6.189
30-40% loss ae18edge2.Chicago2-level3.net
Should I post my stuff? My game has been laggy, I’m not great with pings/networking etc. But it seems like there is a 10% loss at my TWC roadrunner, and then huge losses ranging from 20-80% at the ones I listed.

Is it normal to get 100% packet loss?
Skill lag after the patch was horrible, not sure what it’s like today, but i was getting the worst skill lag just about everywhere in the game.
I’ve had bad lag and dc’s recently too. I rarely experience this, it seems something isn’t as good as it should be. I hope its nothing to do with the API, honestly I don’t know much about its affect on servers but it has created some pretty great things. Would be a shame if it was causing lag for players somehow.
Edited post to reflect current responses by devs/leads.
I’d just like to say that there have been mistakes which will lead players to questioning things like this. To name a few, Lost Shores, Drop Rate bug with kill credit, and various bugs that turned into huge exploits. I support GW2 and Arenanet, but when the question of credibility comes up again and again, a generalized statement directed at us may no longer be enough to cull the anxiety of your customers. If you add in overzealous moderation, and blank statements it only makes the problem worse. Ectos at 21.20

this is not the only stealth change again that came with the last patch. anet has changed also something else, without notifying it in the poatch notes.
They have changed the voice file for the /wave-Emote, at least fpor female human characters.
Don#t know for other combinations, as i haveen’t chaecked other combos out yet, but this one is so much obvious. The voice sounds now alot more feminine (to me) and with that being said, it like it alot more than the older version. But with this all being said, I always ask myself, why anet always so far implemented alot of things, changed alot of things, without telling us in the patch notes.
Can’t be normal that they simply forget every month something to tell us …Why do we always have to find out such things first…
I definitely agree, I posted on disconnects and patch issues in another thread. And asked for clarification about the missing updates in another. I think it is time we had a more defined list of what was really changed. Even if it was deemed small or polish.
Actually marketing and choice of words are perfect, it’s called misleading.
Misleading marketing is only good for so long, and usually only for a small one time product. In a long term, long goal company journey 1 misleading step after another turns into ::Aion:: cough.. I mean a bad direction.
On topic: Nice post, well written and thought out
Off topic: Hope you have flame resistant undergarments on.
Upon pressing (Edit) I quickly retired to my bomb shelter :P I just want people to know I’m not one to agree with everything, or say that anyone is perfect. But I think the disconnects need to be addressed, and I think we as customers deserve that.
Ok, the first official statement is here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Changes-to-ecto-salvage-from-rares/page/3#post2115818
Changes to important things like salvage rates would be listed in the update notes if they have changed. If it’s not in the update notes, then no changes have been made by the development team.
So it must be a bug. Hopefully, they’ll look into this as soon as possible since ectos are probably one of the most important items considering market stability and liability.
And yet noticeable changes like AOE visual change, right click in PVP were not in patch. Not everything is in the notes, I just made a very long post explaining that very thing in General forums.
Part 2
Finally, to keep this post under 10 pages :P I will address Arenanet>Marketing>NCsoft. There is a clear disconnect here when many players are complaining about RNG boxes, about expansions coming then not coming, then maybe coming, then we don’t know? It is understandable that NCsoft does own Arenanet, and that they do have say in what happens. But for them to “bully” out an expansion by tossing marketing at you seems very low. It only makes us the customers more wary of our dealings with Arenanet and NCsoft. Those at Arenanet have built a game, it has been widely enjoyed and praised by many people and companies. NCsoft needs to realize this and let you do your thing. They DO have failing games, and GW2 is not one of them. I find it appalling that the large sums of money I have spent in GW2 goes to games I directly disapprove of. You deserve every penny, and though I know that’s not possible in a business sense, it is still my wish. Marketing and advertising should never run a game. The developers at Arenanet know what is good for GW2, they know what innovations can make the game better. They don’t need to be bullied into pushing out content that simply isn’t ready. Again it comes down to credibility.
To sum it up, players would like more clarification on what “general” statements truly mean in patches. Players would like news from the horses mouth, not from a firm or from a parent company. Arenanet needs to be allowed to do what they do best, and that is design GW2. Patch notes need to be clear and complete every time, slip ups happen, but there shouldn’t be a page of missing notes added weeks later. I use the term “we” many times in this post and I want to clarify I do not speak for every gamer here. But I feel “we” is a good representation of a majority of players who would agree with what I have explained. I hope we can see a more clear, more focused, less confusing game/community/company once the lesson is learned that this current random direction is not the best for the game. Thank you for your time and sorry the post dragged on so long.
Part 1
Let me start by saying this isn’t a “I know better than you, do it my way” thread. I would like to discuss some problems currently with the relationship between Customers, Arenanet, Marketing, and NCsoft.
There seems to be a large disconnect between all 4 sections of the business. In order to keep things clear and legible I will attempt to address them one by one.
Customer>Arenanet: As customers we value a business that serves us well, supports us and is open about their actions. Most times as a customer we generally receive good feedback, some examples:
Devs/designers/leads posting directly to us one on one.
Customer service fixing errors in accounts, fixing many bugs, and improving the game.
Devs and designers continually pushing out content.
There is much more.
The disconnect here is when Arenanet has patches, updates, changes, and they are not clearly written in patch notes. Either information is missing, or information in patches can be wrong at times. Now we are smart enough to know not everyone is perfect, but we expect a certain degree of integrity and clarity when it comes to changing a product. We also understand there is no perfect game or service, and unintended bugs will happen. But what we truly need here is a check, a double check, and for someone/some group to read off the notes back to those who affected the changes. When devs and designers have lists of things they changed, they deserve getting credit for such.
By leaving out this information its almost discounting their efforts, which we as customers greatly appreciate. If it is a negative effect on many players we would rather know the truth than have to do extensive testing to ensure our game provider is on the level. Ignoring marketing and parent companies, we are the first group of people to experience your product. We deserve the full information, an open dialogue between us, as we are the most vital part of the company. (Some may read that sentence wrong, I am speaking financially and as the core of the game. Obviously the company itself is very important.)
Next I’d like to address Arenanet>Marketing. For some time now there has been many slip ups when Arenanet staff are told to say something by marketing or even perhaps NCsoft. Often times it was a poorly worded, poorly constructed form of advertising. We know not everything said comes from the minds of devs and designers and leads. We know marketing is a vital aspect of any company. But when people who are not gamers, do not have experience as gamers do, make claims they do not understand it makes Arenanet and by proxy NCsoft sound bad. We know it is an unintended affect, but there needs to be a fix before more credibility is lost. An example is “expansion worth of content”, this has been discussed largely and I won’t go into it. Secondly, you may have heard the recent “dungeon” was even discredited by those who created it.
Calling it “more of a boss instance” which is far more accurate. i don’t mean to be blunt but sometimes you need to turn off your marketing/advertising peoples voice. Let the devs talk among each other and call it what they feel we will be comfortable with. Don’t call a small update an expansion. All of you at Arenanet are gamers, you love games just as we do. And you deserve to call things what they are, not be foot in mouthed by a marketing team. It takes away credibility, our trust in you as a gaming company when marketing or a parent company tells you what to say or do. You know how to be successful, you don’t need a marketing department to tell us gamers what a dungeon is or is not. You don’t need to let them put words in your mouth that you later have to retract and apologize for. We are far more understanding if Colin says “I made a mistake, I apologize, this is what we meant”, than if he says “marketing told us to say it, we were wrong, sorry”. It is pointing blame, and even if it is rightfully so, we would rather you all could make your own mistakes than take our complaints directly as a result of a 3rd party interfering.
(edited by Geotherma.2395)
Some may not like it because it’s more aggressive but I believe that’s the goal. It may be a little too much ‘in your face’ on its own but I’m sure it’ll be helpful for AoE fests (that’s probably part of what the devs were saying about improving the visibility of effects during that sPvP tournament livestream lately).
I’ll have to find a real AoE fest and see how it feels.
Now if they would just admit to the change, that would be great :P Unless we are all just very imaginative people and the ring has not changed and we are just delusional :P Ah patchnotes…
Please list the level of rares and where they were acquired from. That would help just in case it is isolated ^^
With the missing patch notes about over 8 various things, a page full of bugs from the patch, deleted messages, and various reports of problems- this problem is going to get worse.. We could really use an official response by a dev to calm everyone and bring ectos back to their low cost. On top of that it would be great if the clarification thread could be addressed. Having things missing from patch and a ton of bugs does nothing to cull those who are already cautious and anxious over the situation. This recent patch hopefully can be enlightening to those who write the patch notes, as you can see what happens when things are not done to the best degree of quality and accuracy. Ectos at 21.25.
