It always makes me wonder why you say this. I’m curious why you think the box sales means we paid for all future content and it should be free? I buy a car, I get the car as is, I may get a warranty but I don’t get lifetime repair. In a free to play game I get lifetime updates/content unless they state otherwise. But as a business how can you say that the box sales is enough to foster endless updates and expansions? If this were the case, then removing the gem store altogether would mean we could just go on getting updates forever right? because we paid for the box? I just don’t get this, maybe I’m misunderstanding it, but you say it often. Imo Gem sales are what pays for future content, after basic deductions for salary, overhead etc are taken care of. Granted they have a larger pool of money to work with, but surviving off of original sales as a model to survive just seems silly. You need after purchase revenue in any business for longevity, and that’s the purpose of the gem store. So when we support that store we are paying for content in the future. When you say the box sale means we deserve everything free forever without ever contributing just sounds entitled. But again, maybe I’m misunderstanding.

I almost typed out my reasoning behind my opinion, then thought better of it. If you want to know the difference in the payment models for mmo’s, go google it.

As it stands, if you feel like supporting them over and above the box sale, go for it. If there is something I want in the gemstore I buy it, but it’s because I want to, not because I feel an obligation. It was their choice to go the buy to play model, if or when they decide to eschew this model for the free to play model, or subscription is entirely their choice as well.

What kind of game is this to you? Because it sounds like you are saying it’s a pay to play game.

I don’t feel obligated to pay anything, or to pay to enjoy. Since it is free, if I see something I like I buy it. If I didn’t like/support the game I would never put funds into it. As with any company I show my support and approval through cash, the best known language of business. If I like a certain store, i go there to shop because I agree with its model, its designs, or its prices. If I don’t i simply go elsewhere. I don’t feel obligated to pay money for content, but I know my money goes towards it. If I didn’t want the content, didn’t care for content, didn’t care for the game I would go elsewhere. It is a B2P game yes, and I have a choice to support it by buying things. Not because I’m obligated but because it shows support.

That support turns into more content for me to further enjoy or not enjoy. When they lack the content to make me happy, when things are too utterly ruined or unplayable that I am no longer happy, then I will discontinue buying things. I, as with others like myself, speak with our cash, because Arenanet and every business can understand that language. A language that is much clearer, much more efficient than silly rants about dying games, or promotional threads for the “next big MMO” , or the new “WoW/GW2 killer”. I have better things to do that squabble with those kinds of threads, like buy a teddy bear hat. Not because I like teddy bear hats, but because my asura looks flipping adorable with it. Bonus is that it supports the game, maybe that Axe will be epic, maybe I’ll buy that too. All that translates into $$$, $$$ $$$ $$ $ $$$ $$ . Not to say I’m only paying for/supporting gem shop items, I am highly anticipating dragon stuff, as is my 6 year old son. So here Anet, here’s my 400 gems for hats, and a thank you for dragon pinatas and chocob… I mean Moa races.

I think that you really don’t realize how many users star wars has lost.

No words were put in, they feel entitled to get prestige items after they are gone. Had these items been permanent they would not be prestigious. The title of the thread is “Non permanent items ruined the economy”, I said elaborate on why it ruined the economy. Using a statement that most people use to make themselves sound smart when it is not applicable has the opposite effect.

When stating something in a forum, one should justify those claims, with or without appeal from posters. That is basic forum etiquette, otherwise you have randoms blurting out “the game is bad” in every thread with nothing constructive.

To further elaborate on what I said- Those dyes are prestige items now, as is the pick. A prestige item in real life would be something like an heirloom from hundreds of years ago that your family held onto which has a great worth(assuming it has real world worth to a collector etc). A non prestigious thing would be something that is available to anyone with very low cost, ie cotton candy.

Please elaborate on how an optional dye ruined the economy in any way. And then explain why prestige items should be brought back and given out like cotton candy.

Obviously the cost of the bucket, the amount of uses it has, and the amount or chance of materials is subject to change. For argument sake, I’ll call the lootable areas “boxes”. Id place these boxes in the same loot tables as regular mobs, or whatever the current logic is for mobs in the world.

The farm is only plantable and lootable once per day. It’ll just give us another small stream of materials, if we wanted it, to help offset the nerfs. And we would be lining arenanet’s pocket with some gems along the way. I say keep it a VERY small amount, maybe even maximum price would be 125, the cost of black lion keys if I recall.

They did have farming/gardening in AIon/FFXI, that was fun to do.

That is the kind of petty, meaningless semantic argument I expect when someone has no real counter to an argument. Farming is the same as grinding, with the exact same negative connotation as in someone wasting time doing a mindless and easy activity (that a bot could do better than a human being) for the sake of a shiny reward in the end. Much like a donkey chasing a carrot in front of its face, and definitely not any smarter.

Farming is not the same as grinding. While there are various levels of each, generally grinding is called such because it is imposed. Not by the player but by design. One could state I’m grinding for X reasons, but in the historical sense of the term they are using it wrong. Or simply that they use the word to express that they have a self imposed grind. Guild wars 2 is the least grindy MMO I’ve ever played. Leaving out ascended which are need only for 1 very small aspect of the game, and legendarys which are a long term goal, we have little to no grind. I easily hit 80 in a little over a week, my second 80 was around 2-3 weeks. I had full exotic sets for both within a month, I do not ever remember being able to do that in past games. Ascended was meant fr those who do like grind, for those who wanted endgame. So they need to keep that in mind when they call this a grindy MMO.

With that being said, I’m a veteran who deals with several problems from my time in Iraq. I started my first MMO FFXI and found I enjoyed just killing mobs for fun. In GW2 I get rewarded for doing so like in no other game. When I feel bored, stressed, or my thoughts drift back to hunkering down beside humvees or watching the night sky fill with a rain of tracers, I find myself engaged in a self imposed grind which I actually enjoy. I kill random monsters, do events again and again, its a calming thing for me and I enjoy how GW2 has made it. Now I don’t exploit spots, stand still and spam 1 for hours in some bugged location, I do my own work to get my drops. I don’t depend on one style, one area to keep me happy for my entire time. Those who put all their dependence onto one event, one chain, one type of mob will be more disappointed and retaliatory towards the game when it changes. Those who find many many alternate routes of money/item farming will not be as distressed. It falls on us to not be addicted to an easy answer, it falls on Arenanet to create a game where all styles of player can feel at home for whatever your personal reason is.

If we want to farm give us more opportunity to do so enjoyably, but this doesn’t mean hand feed us items or money. I’d be much happier with more unique areas aside from Orr or Southsun to farm mobs, not grind because I have to. Because again, those are two very different things. Those of us who farm do so for a reason, there are many other ways to make money in game and get what you want. Most of us enjoy farming because it is profitable, at times can be fun, and simply because it is a self imposed farming rather than something we are forced to do to survive. Right now money isn’t the problem for me, it is finding locations that aren’t “dead” or dull to farm in. As long as the drops are decent, and the mobs interesting, and the scenery isn’t completely bland we will be happy with the result. Or maybe I’m the only one who sees it this way, who knows.

It really feels as if they don’t have any direction. I love Guild Wars and the lore. I love the game-world in GW2. But we still have NO road map. None at all.

I do not run dungeons or spam cof1, but when I read the title my first thought was “I want Anet to nerf dungeons because they nerfed farmers” Just sayen :P

Sounds like the same voice actor for Captain Penzan from the Pirates of Penzan event chain in Bloodtide – very similar script & sense of humour – and an easter egg (that I missed until recently) if you hang around at the end, he’ll sing “Modern Pirate General”. I bet that was fun for the actor too.

It seems like there are tons of little gems that I’ve missed. I only have around 1500+ hours but I haven’t really done completion etc, so I’m sure many people have found funny stuff like this. Even little things like items, looting Ulgoth’s(sp?) tail off his corpse as an accessory. And with the world constantly evolving I hope they put time into adding even more awesome stuff, I even think i read the Moa races will be permanent after this arc.

As many of you know there are tons of things in GW2 that get farmed, zerged, rushed to the point that everyone and their Asuran grandmother knows about them and does them. Things like Maw, Jormag, pretty much all the (rare drop) bosses. Also things like Queensdales Troll, or the farm constantly under attack. Well the purpose of this thread is to show people new and old alike, about things they may not know about. Whether it be events, items, quests, meta events, pretty much anything that in your opinion is undervalued and underrated.

So I’ll start it off with one of my favorites~

Jar of Harpy Pheromones- Now the jar is fun itself, you toss it and it pops hearts above peoples heads. But it is not so much the jar that’s fun but the quest and the voice acting. Once you do this quest you will see what I mean I think it is cute and unexpected, I know there is many more out there like this and hope others can share.

Am I missing something here? You can’t enter WvW while guesting, so why is it assumed to be about WvW? The most obvious answer, to me, is that the player is in a dungeon on a different server (either guesting or joining a party with people from other servers).

[D] – Guesting and in a dungeon or not guesting, but in a dungeon hosted on another server.

*All US servers.
Guild on A server.
Player 1 on A server.
Player 2 on B server.

Player 2 sees player 1 as [D] while player 2 is in WvW.

Thats whats happening. TC is not a german server. Player 1 does not see a D next to their own name. It has something to do with the fact people who are seeing the letter are not on the same server, and hence could not be in the same WvW. Guesting doesn’t allow to WvW with other servers.

This is my experience with it, Astrals is different.

I’ve had this lately, large delays in sound when wp’ing. Wasn’t like this before, now theres a delay at times.

Think there’s a few threads on this, as well as suggestions on a toggle for the old style. It was definitely a good thing for colorblind players, and has received mostly (imo) good feedback.

I want to say that if you bought it with cakitten got reimbursed if you used it during the time period. But I’m not 100% sure, I spent around $35 doing my test, all kits were returned.

I’m pretty sure the kit I was using was a freebie from daily completion as I had another (partially used) kit I’d bought with gems sitting in my bank. The fact that I’d transferred this “bought” kit to my inventory while the bug was active and I was finishing up the uses of the “free” kit might have made me eligible for the replacement I received, but I don’t know for sure.

Did the gems you used on that kit come from gold>gems or cash>gems? Tbh I can’t really give you a 100% sure answer ^^; But that was my experience, and seems to be others. Maybe there are other factors, some people didn’t mind if it was just 1 kit. If it does bother you, your always free to contact support and ask if you were somehow missed out because of their metrics. Couldn’t hurt.

1. Anet lets us know they have an update coming.
2. Anet posts a preview page for the event/update.
3. Anet posts the actual page for most info.
4. Anet either

There are variations, but generally I think this is how it is done. Be patient, even devs need to sleep.

Guild Wars 2 is a game about freedom. We want you to be able to explore the world and engage in a huge variety of activities, focusing on whatever best suits your tastes.

Some players have run into “diminishing returns” thresholds we put into the game to provide a safety net against unanticipated economy-breaking issues. We do have these thresholds in place, but it’s not our intention that normal players should ever run into them. We’ve recently had bugs and imbalances that have caused normal players to hit thresholds, and we’ll fix those.

These systems are put in place to protect the economy from botters and exploiters. We will close exploits as quickly as we can. These thresholds help create a safety net to keep the economy safe when we aren’t there to deal with the offender. It’s important to have a safety net in place. It would be bad for everyone if, for example, a group of players learned how to speed-clear a dungeon in 5 minutes, with full rewards each time, and then repeated that continuously. When one activity emerges that’s order of magnitudes more profitable than anything else in the game, it forces everyone to either engage in that activity or get priced out of the economy.

While we need a safety net to stop unanticipated economy-breaking exploits and botting, we have no desire to stop farming. Farmers are a part every online economy and when they are doing normal game activity they do not cause any harm. If a player finds a normal game activity fun and would like to keep doing it, that’s fine with us.

Initially we have to rely on smaller data sets, instinct and some guesswork to find the correct cutoff. What this means is that some players are going to bump into the edges of these systems for a while as we get them sorted out. Please bear with us while we gather more data and lower the safety net until it’s only providing critical economy protection. Looking at the numbers this morning, we believe some of the threshold systems are just too harsh empirically and we’ll be adjusting those systems within the next few weeks to ensure that fewer legitimate players are being impacted.

I hope this helps to explain why a game like this needs systems such as this to protect its economy. I also hope it gives some insight into our philosophy about botters (BAD) and exploiters (BAD) vs. farmers (GOOD). Thanks for your support and we will see you in game.

I don’t know, that buff’s been around for a couple of weeks. They nerfed one area of an entire island. I’m not so sure what’s so hard about killing karka or killing reef riders, or going into the water and killing sharks. Maybe it’s me.

The farm was too easy. Everyone was doing it. They took it away, and people will find another farming spot, in this case 5 feet away.

Do you know the express “storm in a teacup”. Every time they nerf a farming spot, a few guys get irate, someone else finds another farming spot and they farm.

Storm in a teacup. I’m sure you can make just as much money if not more farming armored scale. The sharks are fantastic.

And how much money you make per hour? Your just giving out sentimental argument without real concrete number.

I know this stuns you but I’ll never farm for an hour straight, so I couldn’t possibly tell you. But since armored scale seem to be dropping quite well and since they sell for more than blood at this moment, I’ll go and say that until you try it, you’ll never know.

And if there is one single spot in the game where you can make significantly more than any other spot, for significantly less effort, it should be nerfed. That’s actually good game design, not bad game design.

So basically you can’t back up what you are saying. You say those shark are as good as farming other event in terms of efficiency but you can’t back it up.

And someone actually told me about shark farming a while ago. I believe those shark don’t have knockback and engineer is great to grenaide them. But the thing with farming those is they are not event, so if there are too many people it’ll get over crowded.

I can still make 8-10g an hour in other places that are not glitch/exploit farms. Others do it as well, and they don’t come to forums complaining every-time an easy farm gets toned down, because it was a little too easy to begin with. Best advice is to stop playing follow the leader and finding glitched or heavily farmed areas, and just do your own thing. Otherwise this thread is the end result. And I’ve posted plenty of video/picture evidence in the past to back this up, people who know me in game know I toss my gold at random things because it is so easy to obtain.

Ok, to simplify things here is a complete list of servers with a language tag after the name. Please note there are all EU servers, there are no US servers with language tags.

If any server other than those has a tag after the name, and if that tag says anything other than [DE], [FR] or [SP] it’s not a language tag and nothing to do with the language used on that server.

Tarnished Coast player was in WvW on Tarnished Coast US. They had [D] Which server are you on, and which server were they on?

Someone else had this problem, but with their character, I can’t seem to find the thread at the moment… I don’t know how they resolved it.

Ok so….

I’m on NSP, I’m in a TC guild. A member of the guild was in wvw on TC and had a D next to their name. Only I can see it, they see nothing. So it may have to do with the fact they are technically on another servers wvw. Now NSP isn’t against TC in WVW so thats out, but idk what DE means still or if any of this helped..

Can you please tell me what items in the shop give this stuff? Because I looked, and I don’t see any of that. I see +karma%, +XP% type boosters, but no +%damage or +%armor boosters in the shop.

As to your bank/bag space being pay to win…. no, just no. Other MMOs make you pay $15 a month to have that bank/bag slots and you have to spend in game gold to get those slots.

On history click buying items (if you havent) and click remove. This should give you back your gold, although admittedly I’ve never over bid.. So I’m not sure what would happen exactly other than what others stated of just receiving the actual cost.

I think if you left the P2W section out, which clearly is a bit misinformed, you would have had a better discussion here

I quit farming the day I noticed I was only getting one tier 6 mat per 2 hours.

Unless you have a serious bug with your loot tables or you refuse to rotate somewhere else when DR kicks in, I don’t see how this can possible. I never spend more than 30 minutes at Pent/Shelt at a time – and that’s the only farming I ever do in this game – and I get four or more T6 mats from bags every time. And most of the time I’m not even running MF food/buffs.

If Gatrix was talking about t6 mats that drop directly from risen mobs, and not the ones that come from the heavy moldy bags, it’s possible., they don’t drop them very often.

I’ve been farming in orr, frostgorge, and southsun for a while, and what I noticed is you’re far less likely to get a t6 mat drops from mobs in southsun, and frostgorge than risen mobs in cursed shore. But it’s not an issue since risen mobs drop loot bags.

The unfortunate thing about t6 dust is..

What do you do if you need powerful blood? farm karka, skelk, arctodus, or trolls

What do you do with you need vicious claws? Ice colossus

What about vicious fangs? Skelk, or arctodus

Ancient bone? Corrupted quaggan

Armored scale? barracuda/sharks in frostgorge and southsun

Elaborate totems? grawl in forstgorge (never framed this so not sure how good it is)

Powerful venon Sack? Reef ryders. (never farmed this, so not sure how good it is)

Crystalline dust? Loot bags, or sparks, and from my experience, Sparks have a pretty crappy drop rate of these things, a lot of them spawn in annoying areas, and there spawn is tied to whether certain temples are uncontested or not.
