D/D didn’t get nerfed. Increasing base initiative gain by 33% is a pretty big deal.

It’s more than a big deal. It’s a MASSSSSSSSSIVE buff to all thief specs.

All thief specs that don’t use initiative regen* (so… not S/P or P/P)

:)

Or Vigor/Acrobatics.

They gave 33% increase in base regen rate, but they dropped regen from traits by 50% across the board.
They also dropped Vigor up time by half.

They don’t want Thieves Stealthing, don’t want them dodging… WTF?
I care so little about this game at this point, I don’t know why I even wasted my time posting this…

People already harass each other over enough stuff. Whether it be builds, what profession they are running, what food they are running, and so on. I’d suggest removing the idea of controlling that from consideration when making these decisions.

This argument boils down to “Well it’s happening already. So let’s just do whatever.” I agree that people harass other people and part of what we try and do is mitigate that. So, we wouldn’t make a change that would exacerbate that, unless it had a major pay off. This doesn’t fit that criteria.

Um…. In hundreds of hours playing I’ve NEVER seen that happen. First, NO ONE is keeping track of who’s on the map, second, no one knows the exact outnumbered math, and third NO ONE really assumes they have a right to be on the map and another player doesn’t. Forth, if the buff were scaled with numbers, no one would care about losing 1-2 stats at a time, or even notice. Edit: Particularly since it’s all dependent on the enemy team’s size which is out of everyone’s control.

Meanwhile it would actually have a real effect on creating a more balanced battlefield which everyone would appreciate.

If you don’t play the game, at least listen to the people who do. People only harass each other over stupidity like bad siege placement or claiming a keep without using buffs. And that’s because it’s deserved.

There’s that as well. Assuming Carver’s scenario actually even occurred , how would people know the buff did not disappear because the other side lost players? And even without that factor, not having any way of knowing WHO just joined, does he really think people are just going to start yelling at random people to leave?
That’s not even harassment at that point since it’s not directed at any particular person, it’s just someone being a moron and probably getting themselves reported by multiple others.
Besides, if the outnumbered buff disappears, logically that should mean your side is no longer heavily out-numbered by the enemy, and you no longer even need the buff.

why we wont see a useful outnumbered buff:

scenario — player enters map where his server has outnumbered. server loses outnumbered. other players harass him to leave so server can be stronger.

Correct. The idea behind the buff is to incentivize you to show up even if you are outnumbered by pulling out some of the disincentive for losing a lot, but if we put anything too good on it, it will cause serious problems between players. We don’t want it to be something that people fight over, harass each other over, or generally cause a worse play experience because someone takes away the buff because it is our goal for the maps to be full and for no one to have the buff.

Do you guys do any kind of research before making such statements?

First, if you actually cared about this, explain the fact that rally exists in WvW? I see more rage directed at walking rally points then anything else in the game, people telling others to stop following them, telling uplevels to leave WvW, people following on purpose to troll them, etc, etc. This is ok, but outnumbered buff rage would be horrible?

I have to agree here, you should NOT be able to rally off kills in PvP. It’s just so ridiculously flawed and problematic. Hell, rallying from kills doesn’t need to exist in the game, period. If removing it just from PvP/WvW is so hard.

Then couldn’t you just NOT use a binary formula for the buff? Make it scale the more thoroughly outnumbered you are.

They just need to fix 50% mobility in stealth, because it’s currently NOT working out of combat.

It’s not working in combat either. People need to stop perpetuating that myth everywhere.
The in-combat max-speed is not equal to the out of combat max speed; the max speed is capped as a 33% multiplier, period. In or out of combat.

Yes it is working. You run slower while in combat, but if u have the trait + u are in stealth u will be as fast as a out of combat with swiftness… or close to.

No, I am DEAD CERTAIN it does not, and you’re making assumptions that you’re trying to put off as facts. Many people have tested this with actual math, including myself.
There have been multiple threads on this very subject in the past that each came to the eventual conclusion that it does not make you move faster than 33% in combat, but people completely forget about them the moment they’re no longer on the front page of the forums and the same ridiculous misinformation just starts sprouting up all over again.
Nor does it make you move faster with movement impairments on you.

Easy to land? I hate that spec BECAUSE of how hard that is to land. It’s prefaced by a moving dodge and has a slow animation.

I doubt it’s the constant dodging. That already got nerfed pretty hard recently, and hardly even needed that with how weak the damage and versatility were, and how fast you’d drop the moment you made a single mistake.

I don’t get it. The way i see it is that she just wants to be evil for the
fun of it and acts like a lunatic.

This is basically the same as Kefka and everyone loves that guy,
he is by many considered to be the best villain of the whole FF series,
so why the whole Scarlett bashing?
Don’t get me wrong, i think the character could have been done better
but the way the LS is structured i think the writers did a decent job,
i mean if you go down the route of ’’I’m doing this just because i am so evil. Harrharr!‘’
then it’s better to create a character similar to Scarlett insted of for example
Baelfire who didn’t have a motive at all but was evil
‘for some reason i guess(?)’

baelfire wants to be the supreme ruler of the charr, as well as become a god or some kitten. he has reasons.

Yes that makes sense but a reason to seek power doesn’t equal a reason for being evil.
Also i’m not familiar with gw1 lore so… It’s just that the point was brought up that
not many villains in that universe seem to have good reasons for what they do.

I just think that a ‘Deadpool’ does make more sense than a ‘serious’ villain
who’s lacking purpose.

Baelfire is evil because he’s Fire Legion; the old rulers of the Charr during the period of GW1. They’re superstitious fascists, racists and sexists and no one wants to be under their rule.
They’re kinda like kittens.

I was mistaken about what happens in Windowed mode. First, the UI is screwed up with the rest. Second, the specific problem is that the actual window is stretched well beyond the boundaries of the screen. The camera is not off-center, I simply cannot see the bottom-right portion of the window because it’s off-screen.

Broken Cursor on Surface Pro

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Grimwolf.7163

Grimwolf.7163

I was playing the game perfectly well on my Surface Pro tablet for months.
Then I had to reformat, and now when I try playing GW2 the cursor is busted.
The actual location of… influence, the cursor has, is not where the cursor is visibly at. For example, I would see the cursor as being dead-center on the screen, but the cursor interacts with things as if it is higher up and to the left. The further down and right I move the cursor on the screen, the larger the variance becomes, such that this “area of influence” basically moves more slowly than the cursor itself.
If I put the game into windowed mode the cursor works fine, but then the camera becomes terribly off-center from my character; too high and left. It also makes everything other than the UI seem zoomed in and low-res, as if the visible area of the game world were much smaller than it should be and stretched to accommodate the screen size.

I actually had this same problem the last time I first attempted to run GW2 on the tablet, but I can’t recall how I managed to fix it. I was sure changing the resolution would fix it, but it didn’t.

Cripple on Dancing Dagger is nice, but no matter what I’m fighting or how much I spam it, the Cripple either gets cleansed instantly or just vanishes in a couple seconds from duration reductions.
Scorpion Wire only works if the enemy is fleeing in a straight line from you, and not watching behind them to see what you’re doing in order to dodge it or block it, and is not fleeing with Stability active which is so common.
I haven’t even found a reliable way to stay on people, myself.
Just switch to Shortbow or P/P and shoot them in the back.

Are Our Characters Suddenly Mute?

in Living World

Posted by: Grimwolf.7163

Grimwolf.7163

This is why it’s a bad idea to hire bigshot celebrities to voice an MMO.

Honestly, did the marketing team believe whether or not people like Nolan North voices the main character, would decide whether or not people buy the game?

Now because of decisions like that, our playable character has to be mute for most the upcoming updates! <_<

I mean, granted Nolan North is a great voice actor, does anyone actually care enough for it to be a deciding factor?

A couple of things here:

  • Marketing had no involvement in casting the player character. This was a design-driven decision.
  • The unfortunate side effect of having the player speak with 10 different voices is that it is cost prohibitive, and that the lines are shared. Dialog does not deviate, which means that a charr male PC says the same line as a sylvari female in cinematics in circumstances where any player can talk.

Something that’s interesting to note is that, if I recall correctly, throughout the first half of GW1 the male PCs were voiced by Steve Blum (massive name in the voice acting industry), but was later replaced by some completely different, likely far less costly guy.
In fact, it may have only been the base game campaign that used Steve Blum.

Thief "heartseeker" bug

What I took away from that video is that you stood there doing absolutely nothing for over 20 seconds against 4 people and are complaining. Had you swung your sword once, you’d have hit the thief back for 2k+ damage with how glassy he had to be compared to the other people there. Furthermore, if you look at that thief’s autoattack, your retal hits almost as hard as his double strike (until you met a set of requirements like under 50% health + conditions + his initiative over 6 etc).

You missed the point of the video completely. He wasn’t say “Oh my God, I died before I could even fight back and had no chance!”
He was showing how much damage the Thief was able to do through his defenses and how much more it was than the Mesmer.
The problem here though is that we have no idea what kind of build the Mesmer was using. If it was 100% GC just like the Thief likely was, I’m sure it would have done a comparable amount of damage.

Hello,

I have been running my warrior with power, toughness, vitality specs in ALL the gear including the weapons.

On the traits I have:

  • 0/0/25/30/15

On the skill tab I have:

  • Banner of defense (170 toughness)
  • Dolyak signet (reduces incoming damage)

This gives me 3684 toughness and 32605 HP all together.

With this build I can survive almost any 1 vs 1 on WvW for over 5 minutes or possible even more. HOWEVER, I have been noticing that thieves are the only class that can hit me for 4700+. I have noticed that a certain skill call heartseeker is responsible for that.

Possible a bug since that damage is unrealistic considering how much toughness I have and how fast the thief can spam heartseeker.

I was checking videos on youtube about heartseeker when I came upon this video.

Why would you complain about Heartseeker, and show a video whose whole purpose is to show auto-attacks out-damaging Heartseeker?
Is your point that the skill is NOT that great, but is still somehow managing to hit you hard when no other Thief skills are?
