“Low evades”? The only remotely viable P/P builds have at least 20 in Acrobatics.
Something like this should do all right.

Lots of dodging, lots of Initiative regen, lots of damage.
Mixing some Body Shots in with your Unloads, coupled with Sundering Strikes, will allow you to maintain massive Vulnerability stacks on the enemy.
I’d take a Sigil of Precision and a Sigil of Battle. You’ll be swapping weapons on recharge to gain both Might stacks and Initiative.

How to reliably land C&D?

in Thief

Posted by: Grimwolf.7163

Grimwolf.7163

One trick that’ll make it infinitely easier to land reliably is Canceling. The long cast makes it easy to avoid, but that also makes it easy to cancel it and lose absolutely nothing in the process.
Not only will doing that prevent you from losing anything when it does fail, but you can bait people with a feint before using the real thing after they’ve blown their dodge/blind/aegis.
http://www.blackwolfbrotherhood.com/guides/techniques/attack-canceling/

Like the others said, pre-casting is vital as well. Just activate it while still out of range and running up to them, so that it triggers by the time you reach them.

Shadow's Rejuvenation - important?

in Thief

Posted by: Grimwolf.7163

Grimwolf.7163

I actually consider Shadow’s Rejuvenation pretty weak. Especially for a Grandmaster.
Over a full 4 second Stealth, it barely recovers as much as a single auto-attack from most enemies. Cloaked in Shadow is a better defense boost, but unless you’re going a full 30 in Shadow Arts then Infusion of Shadow and Shadow’s Embrace are both still better yet than that.

As for your specific question, going from 25>30 Shadow Arts is much more useful than 15>20 Critical Strikes. Mostly because the only good traits in Critical Strikes are either Minors or Grandmaster.
If you dip into it at all, you should be going all the way.

What disturbs me more is that Engineers can throw their nades up at us while
we stand on high spots on the walls. While we can’t even reach the ground right in front of the wall with clusterbomb.

1500 range thrown and 900 range shortbow ~shrug~

I think they should introduce some ballistics system to the weapon sets,
when firing downhill the range should be increased.

this takes incredible programm skills and a working knowledge of physics. srry anet cant afford to hire people with this sort of education :P they do it themselves it seems. i mean if im wrong then its just laziness ….sooooo…. yeah i agree. it should be like this without saying!

They had it in GW1.

pathing routes were different and so were many skills …gw2 is much more complex….and rather than doing such things like balistics and arrows reaching farther n more dmg from height/distance…… its just reaaaaaaaaaaly hard to program like that and have 0 bugs. hell i bet they initially tried it. i mean why would they take it out ? makes no sense right? no benefits to NOT having it so obviously there was a glitch/hitch/catch to having it. terrain could be the problem. its more complex. idk too many variables but complexity was without the problem.

You’re making a lot of assumptions.

If you play through DMD mode on the very first game fresh with no extended health bar with just what you were able to aquire at the time, a Devil triggered shadow will one shot you with the spear attack. With that in mind if you make a mistake you die. Same as Liadri. In devil may cry you would stock up on some health to counter that. which is adapting.

People complain saying I shouldn’t have to retrait specifically for this and that. Yes, yes you do. You bring the right tools for the job or expect to lose. There is a reason why there is an npc to retrait inside the pavilion area. You’ve played Devil may cry, that’s like saying wow I Shouldn’t have to use Ifrit to beat nightmare on dmd I want to use Alastor. Another example is fighting a Conditionmancer and then losing only to complain and say " I shouldnt have to use Condition removal to win". lol what?

Are you insane? That is THE hardest setting in the entire game, which you can’t even do until you’ve already beaten the game, and most people never even used it.
You can’t compare that to first-tier enemies with no added difficulty.

Are people seriously having troubles with the first-tier of enemies? Learn the mechanics of the game, and the mechanics of the mobs. They were not ridiculously challenging, they were fair and engaging encounters.

Fair? Kialdrin will literally cover the entire arena in tornadoes well before the timer runs out, and can easily chain knock you to death if you hit one even before then, which will happen easily with the terrible camera boundaries.

I was able to beat them all too, that doesn’t mean they aren’t crap.

I have full zerker gear+ ruby orbs+ ruby alumet and ring of zerk and zerker weaons with +5% crit chaance . Its like you can’t be more glassy ….
And guess what , my backstab is extremly poor in wvw , maybe 5k and mu survability is riduculous , i almost got killed by a shortbow ranger …. i Had to run away like a chicken

And then i saw some videos of people backstabbing easly for 8k and having like a 17k hp pool… its like WTF : i know there are ascended stuff but they arent that powerful
the only option some1 told me was Runes of Divinity but they are crazy expensive so i dont think ill buy them . I was also thinking about getting a PVT gear with zerker amulets and stuff. Any advicie to do ‘normal’ damage and not getting hit for 3k by a shortbow ranger …?

By the way my build is 0/30/20/10/10 ( i know its random but i like the traits from this build . If some1 could help would be pretty nice .

If you get Valkyrie/Cavalier gear combined with either P/D or D/D and Critical Strikes with Hidden Killer, you can have high defense while still bursting people for very higher damage on demand.
A very solid build would be something like this;

I’ve never heard someone describe the Warrior as having a “high” skill cap. One of the bigger complaints I’ve found is just how low the skill cap is, because it means you can’t use many clever tricks and strategies available to many classes to overcome enemies. The simplicity of the class limits its potential.
Also, Warrior damage is nuts; both burst and sustained. The problem is in actually landing it.
Hence a large part of the performance discrepancy between PvE and PvP; NPCs will just clump into nice balls and stand inside your Hundred Blades/Whirling Axe/Whatever. Players won’t.

It’s interesting that you bring up Black Lion Chests. Cheaper keys are a promise from Evon, correct? If Anet has a vested interest in “scamming Gems out of people,” why wouldn’t they rig the election for him?

You have the impression that lower key prices would mean more money for them, but that would seem like the complete opposite to me. Lower prices would obviously mean less gained when people buy them, and it would also make it much easier for people to buy them entirely with Gold.
Whether or not people would actually buy more of them than they otherwise would because of the sale, and if they would buy enough more to counteract the sale and make them even more money is very debatable. Considering the terrible stigma BLCs have, it seems unlikely.

Exit Polls (updated 8/2)

in Cutthroat Politics

Posted by: Grimwolf.7163

Grimwolf.7163

After seeing that both are apparently at the very same percents as before, the idea that this election is fake is really seeming plausible now.

Why?
The larger the vote totals are, the more “difficult” it is to change the percentages.

Personally, if I were faking this thing, I think I would change the numbers in an attempt to make it look more real.

Because it’s not one vote per person, and initially the results should have been severely skewed by people running both candidates for the achievements.
People switching off to support a single candidate after getting their achievements, and people putting in progressively more votes for a single candidate would make it spectacularly unlikely that they would remain even at all, let alone remain the same percent split they were the week before.
Those numbers are just way, way too unlikely to be real.
Having the listed numbers be practically even while still supporting Kiel also just happens to align perfectly with their interests; they’ve spent a lot of time building up Kiel and clearly have a vested interest in her, whereas Evon has appeared completely out of nowhere for the sole purpose of this election. And having them remain relatively even means that people will not see it as a lost cause and continue to spend loads of both Gems and Gold on more votes in an effort to shift the results, as well as having good reason to continue playing the content without feeling terribly bored of it.
They probably didn’t even put in the tech to track votes, because it would have taken a lot of time and effort.
That would mean the whole “election” was created only to drum up some hype over the game while scamming Gems out of people and reducing some of the excess Gold in the market. That might seem too shady to be likely itself, but keep in mind how Black Lion Chests work. They clearly aren’t above shady choices when real money is involved.

Everyone will comment on how good the special gumbo is until the secret recipe is revealed:
Special gumbo is Asuras! You’re eating Asuras!

The Asura will outrage; the Sylvari don’t eat meat, so they wont’ be bothered; the humans will rejoice and the Charr will order third helpings.

Sylvari do sleep, and they can eat both meat and vegetables. They drink, as other races do, and they get tipsy on alcoholic beverages. They gain enjoyment from sitting in the sunlight—and it invigorates them—but can’t live on it as plants do. Their blood is a sticky sap, and though they can bleed, they do not have blood pressure or a pulse.

It’s not because they don’t eat meat that they won’t be bothered, sylvari are always open to new experiences, it’s just that asura taste is kinda bland… roasted charr, on the other hand..

I think the Sylvari must be carnivores, actually. If they ate vegetation, that’d be like… cannibalism.

On a humorous note, this is one of those topics that shows that we complain about everything ain’t it?

“ain’t” isn’t a proper word in written English.

;)

Actually, “Ain’t” got added to the dictionary.

Webster’s Dictionary is not an accurate list of proper English words, and lists all kinds of slang and contractions and such. It’s used only as a reference to understand what words mean when a person uses them; not whether they are proper words or should actually be used.
That includes the multiple definitions of proper words. If, for example, it became common to misuse Jubilee in reference to an obese house cat, they would add “Obese house cat” as one of the definitions.

So, is there an accurate list of proper English words?

I don’t know of one, unfortunately.

Hobo Sacks: A Terrible Fashion Statement

Some pretty interesting ideas here. I was actually spit-balling some ideas on how to address this today. This has always been something that has bothered me, too.

For example:

  • Have kits respect the existing back item flag. If you have a back item and you want to show it, hide the kit. If you don’t have a back item or choose to hide it, always show the kit. Obviously this makes it a little harder than usual to tell what kit you are using, so:
    • A nameplate icon similar to Elemental Attunements would be a good addition (I may add this regardless if we can get the art )
    • Move the kit somewhere else on your body. I know, crazy right? For example, who doesn’t like a sweet fanny-pack?

Hopefully this finally gets resolved soon, and I’ll do what I can to see that happen. Keep in mind, as Colin mentioned before, that there are some pretty beefy projects going on that are consuming our engineering time. But that doesn’t exactly mean we can’t sneak stuff in here and there .

-Bill

An awesome idea that came up in another thread was to remove the packs all together, and allow people to use packs as regular back items if they want them (like the starter one), and instead add an item to one of the Engineer’s hands while the kit is active, like the wrench from the Toolkit. The character icon would be nice as well.
You could also then make the weapon sheathed while the kit is active so it can still be seen.
Do you really need new art for the icon though? Just re-use the skill bar icon.

And thanks for replying! Thank God this is still getting attention.

Rabid vs Zerker Grenades in WvW

in Engineer

Posted by: Grimwolf.7163

Grimwolf.7163

The spread on grenades is the same at max range as it is at close range.

If the grenade hits something in flight, it will detonate, so very very close range can seem like there is almost no spread.

^ Not 100% true, the target area is the same no matter what range but nades spread out as they travel so if your close they will all land in the center of the target area (i.e. all hit 1 person) and st max range they all land at the outside edge of the target area.

To the OP i would say atm nades are built for conditions the Zerker nade build is ok and it may even preform better in a zerg (direct damage is best for taging) BUT there are better power builds.

In short if you love nades go rabid, if you just want a good power build experiment try a Static Discharge build with rifle, great for zerging. Power FT with Might stacking also works well.

I’m not terribly experienced with the Engineer, but my experience is that the amount of spread is predetermined; if you throw them far, they’ll spread out slowly. If you throw them close, they’ll spread out quickly. So regardless of distance they spread the same amount.
