PvP is kind of a mess atm. I use to be a huge soloqer, but I refuse to do it, I only do premades now. However, that’s what happens when you implement a new system, you’re going to run into a lot of problems. Hopefully it gets sorted out sooner than later.

I’d love new champ titles because the current ones are terrible. 150 wins is extremely easy to achieve and you can do it in a few weeks. However, on the other end of the spectrum you have Champion Bawler, which is 10k tPvP wins and that’s a very very long term goal. There needs to be a middle ground.

Also more meaningful PvP rewards. Ladders is a great step in the right direction, however you can only give out llamas for so long!

PvP needs meaningful rewards to draw people in and to keep them playing. I’m not talking about mats and PvE items, but exclusive PvP items such as the Glorious Armor and Balthazar back piece.

Female Charr, they big and since they big they have wider range on there attacks. Also the weapons are bigger which increases range too.

Asura no good, too tiny not good range.

Think of it this way, your in a punching match, you watch to be the midget and have short arms, or you want to be the 7’ tall dude with massive arms?
Midget is never going to be able to get a hit on the tall dude because tall dude just keeps the midget’s strikes outta range but in range for his strikes the entire fight.
Edit, also the 7’ guy will land nothing but headshots and the midget will most likely be unable to even land a headshot if he could.

Pretty much. When it comes to competitive play you do whatever it takes to win (besides cheating ofc), there is no cheese. You take whatever advantages you can get and you use them. For example LDLC in CSGO, they are pretty much the best team at using the CZ75 (an obviously broken pistol that is going to get nerfed). However, they used it and won the last major. Does that mean LDLC sucks and they are terrible? No, they are very talent, and are just using the right tools for the job.

The new MMR doesn’t account for your old soloq MMR. It’s only using teamq data.

Ranked arena is using whatever MMR you had before in team arena.

In my view, Honor would be a better fit then Valor. The purpose of tomes is to provide support, Valor is a very selfish and self preservation trait line. If it was in Honor both AH and Virtues bunkers could use it (assuming it stayed a Master trait), and you’d probably see it used more often.

Or Anet could just give it stab by default again. Never understood why they changed this. Every others professions’ elite transformation gets stab, Guard is the only one that has to trait for it.

Apparently they haven’t turned the matchmaking on yet, hence how you get paired with people who can’t tell their left from their right.

This is probably common knowledge;

Banish stomps

What you need:
Judge’s Intervention
Hammer

Perform a Banish on a downed player, immediately press whatever key you have to perform actions. If done fast enough, you’ll start the stomping animation. Towards the end of the stomping animation, use Judge’s Intervention and secure the stomp.

That’s a cool trick! However does it serve any practical role?

Yes, it does. It completely negates the ability for the other team to perform rezs.

Because even ranked doesn’t have good matches. I played 20 ranked games so far, and went 17-3. Every courtyard was 500-0, and most of the other matches where 500-150.

:) do the math, every match there are 5 winners and 5 losers. However the top 10% players will win almost every match they are in . If there are 1000 matches played every night the top 10% of the players most likely take up a large chunk of those wins by themselves. This means an avg player will have a losing record. In fact I would think unless you are in the top 20% you will most likely be below 50% on the win ratio just because the best players takes up so much of the wins.

So you are saying that the top people group together. And they destroy groups of 5 average players, over and over and over all night…eventually generating a large pool of the average players who are now dispirited and unhappy, and whose rating has plummeted from mostly losing.

I’m watching it right now, noscoc(Team que 5-10) has a full team in unranked just 500 to 0’ing pugs of scrubs.

They don’t que ranked because there’s no leaderboard.

You shouldn’t be able to que unranked with more then 4…
And just farm terribles who just installed gw2.

Well, there’s really no reason to play ranked atm. No incentives at all and everyone’s MMR is all over the place. I’m personally not touching pvp until the test season begins on the 16th.

Personally I think Glacial Heart is just as poop as Searing Flames, if not more so. It’s too situational to be of any reliable use. 2k healing per meditation use is way better (don’t forget that Renewed Focus is a meditation too since the last feature patch!).

Glacial Heart is still terrible and not worth taking. If they actually wanted to make it usable they could do a number of things:

1) Keep it currently as is it, but add a damage multiplier to hammer.

2) Keep the 15 second CD, however make it apply to all weapons.

3) Simply reduce the CD further.

He does have a point. In all honestly, Anet could have just dropped pvp all together and just focused on pve/wvw. They’d probably be better off, not like the pvp population is that significant. All it really does is just drain resources from the larger aspects of the game.

So any update they do, is just showing they are actually still trying to support pvp and make it better. Sure this game didn’t turn out the way most pvp players wanted it to. However, it still has the best combat in any mmo to date and it’s free.

I played around 20 games tonight, my group was always between 2-4 people, and we only faced a full premade once. Rest of the time it was against soloq players. It really wasn’t fun for anyone. Every Courtyard ended 500-0, and all the other matches where around 500-150.

How you can say they wasn’t a duo/trio but only soloqueue players?

I asked the players because I wanted to know personally. A majority were soloqers.

It is kind of funny that if I hadn’t queued since March, I would easily have gotten top 20 just by playing one game — win or lose. But since I’m active in solo queue to this day, my matchmaking rating has deteriorated since not many high-rated people play solo queue anymore.

But that’s the problem with basing the leaderboards off matchmaking rating. Thankfully, that problem is being fixed tomorrow.

Yeah it was pretty terrible. The game punished people that played soloq actively and on a regular basis. Once you get high on the leaderboards you need ridiculous win streaks to keep climbing because nobody above you plays. So you might get all these wins, but they’re against lower MMR players, so you hardly move. However, when you lose, and you eventually will, you drop like a rock.

It was just a vicious cycle and I’m glad it’s about to be gone.

Hey Harbinger I love all of the work you have done for this thread and for guardians! I was wondering if there are any stat combinations that would work well with Nomad stats or if Nomads is even viable at all with a guardian, preferably in WvW? I was thinking of trying to make a build with them but everyone seems to hate them and finds them useless/bad.

I actually use Nomad when I run with my havoc group, and I’m playing support. I pair it with Cleric and Knight trinkets and use a 0/0/2/6/6 build.

imo Nomad gear is stupid and ‘healing power’ scales horribly.

Just to give you an idea how horrible the ‘healing power’ stat is. Replace all your Nomad and Cleric gear with Soldier. Now look at the difference of how much ‘shelter’, your main healing skill, heals you. With your Nomad+Cleric setup, ‘shelter’ heals for 5,3k. Now with all those pieces replaced by Soldier, it heals for 4,7k. That’s only a 500 HP difference, on your MAIN healing skill, whooptie-fokkin-doo…

If you want some extra healing just use mango pies, water sigils, renewal sigils and/or leeching sigils, that will give you plenty of extra healing so you can use better gear with more useful stats making you a more useful part of the team.

Seriously, screw the horrible ‘healing power’ stat and screw all gear with ‘healing power’.

The main benefits from healing power doesn’t come from your healing skill, but from traits such as Selfless Daring and skills like Empower. Selfless Daring with a Solider set is only around 430 healing, however with the build I posted SD heals for almost 1200. That’s a huge increase. Same goes for Empower, an 1800 heal compared to almost 2600. Yes, healing power doesn’t scale that well with the actual “heal” skills, but it’s more about how it affects your traits, other skills, Virtue of Resolve (active/passive), and also regen.

He’s talking about the current leaderboards. On Dec 2nd, the top 20 get a piece of Glorious Hero armor and the top 100 get a llama. Top 250 applies to the test season which begins on the 16th.

I’d doubt it, the majority of people think Guard is “fine”. However, the longer you play the class, the more you see its shortcomings and limitations. When most people think of Guard, first thing that comes to mind is support bunker.

Sure, bunker Guard is fine, however it’s not needed anymore and can easily be replaced by other classes such as an ele. This is because these classes can fulfill the Guard’s role and even surpass them in many other ways, such as damage.

When it comes to med Guard it’s even worse. There is absolutely no reason to even bring a med Guard over another zerker class. Very limited mobility (FB, JI, and LoF) not even going to mention MI because it’s still garbage. Extremely predictable and easy to read burst (wish more classes where like that, but that’s a different story). Also it’s a profession that primarily focuses on melee combat, yet it lacks the soft CCs, and you have to use sigils and runes to try and make up for it. There hasn’t been one major champion winner that had a dps Guard on the team, and that alone speaks volume about its state.

So yes technically Guard is “fine”, however it’s pretty outclassed in the current meta. Sorry for the rant, it’s just frustrating to see.

No Med guard is v strong vs a lot of matchups. Its just Ele rly, too much spam, hits too hard, perma protection. No real cooldowns to avoid minus a knockdown which is easy and isn’t a game changer.

I really wouldn’t go as far to as to say “a lot.” War, thief, and mesmer are the only match ups that are heavily in favor of Guard. An ele and condi ranger are almost guaranteed to beat a med Guard. Engi also has a slight edge, and with Necro it can go either way depending on the build.

Yes, med Guards are viable. However, there are reasons why you don’t see many of them being used in top tier matches. Nevertheless, med Guard is in a weird spot, In lower and average tier matches they perform quite well and even great depending on the player. However, the higher you go, the less useful they become. Which leads to the problem of buffing them. If you buff them to make them more viable in high tier matches, they then become insanely OP for everyone else.

As much as I hate it, this is a case of leaving well enough alone.

That’s why I’m suggesting a slight change to the weapons not the traits or the skills they just need that tiny push to make them viable. A good range weapon is a nice start It’s super easy to kite a Med Guard. I’m not asking for a mega buff to make them super OP I just want them on par with the rest

The scepter is a good range weapon, they just need to tweak it a bit. Orb of Wrath really needs some help, either better tracking or make it faster. At 1200 range, you’re not going to hit anything, but the closer you get, the more reliable it becomes. Smite and Chains of Light are great, don’t have any complaints about those. It’s really just the auto-attack holding it back.

This was mentioned long ago and needs to be changed. Since we are talking about QoL changes, another example are skills like Sanctuary. It can be difficult to differentiate between friend and foe. There should be a red outline of sorts for enemy skills.

Don’t mean to derail the topic, but since we are talking about Guard changes overall, I found this to be quite interesting. It’s a list of all the older traits that got removed. Some of them are quite good. I’ll list a couple that caught my eye, but you can look at the full list if you want. Interesting stuff.

Altruism- Virtues recharge faster.

Practiced Resistance- Conditions expire more quickly on you.

Defender’s Warding- Shield of Wrath absorbs more damage.

Burned by Truth- Applies burning on critical hits.

Staggering Judgment- Shield of Judgment knocks back.

Steel Curtain- Your Line of Warding blocks projectiles.

Precise Defender- You have a 10% chance to gain a 3 second protection when you critically hit.

Courageous Speed- Critical attacks with your sword grant you Swiftness.

I still run shield on my bunker builds in pvp, obviously focus is much better for other types of builds.

However, it could really use some slight tweaks. Shield of Judgment is only three seconds of protection in PvP, which is abysmal considering the CD on it. In WvW it’s not a big deal because you can easily stack boon duration, and get up to nine seconds of protection from it, which is quite nice. I’d be happy if they just raised it to at least five seconds in pvp.

Shield of Absorption, before there was a “bug” where it didn’t root you and you could also use other skills. This made it extremely useful, however they had to go and fix it two years later. If they would simply just change it back to the “bugged” version I’d be happy.

Basically nil. The tools we use are very customized to a particular workflow, and there’s a lot of tribal knowledge involved as I understand it. We’d need to allocate a fairly large team dedicated to just this.

That said, I think it would be a lot of fun if we ever held some sort of map concept contest. I believe something like that was done for weapons in GW1.

Was it removed because players didn’t like water combat?

Because as I said my previous reply, I DO like water combat. I think it’s unfortunate, I thought it added an extra dimension towards tactics and strategies.

What they need to do is release a boxed set where we are going to have to fight Bubbles, and while at it, maybe make water combat more interesting with more weapons and tactical options, maybe even water-only utility skills, and an entire underwater region. Call it…. the Journey to Atlantis!

And then bring Capricorn back.

It’s not that players didn’t like underwater combat, it was just insanely broken. Rangers, for example, were pretty much invincible underwater.
